Do-it-yourself manual grape press. A wine press is the winemaker's main assistant! What material to make a device for home use

Press juicers can make life easier for every summer resident and gardener. Everyone can make a grape press with their own hands due to the simple design of these devices. Thus, you will be able to quickly process a large amount of fruit. To do this, it is enough to stock up on patience, the necessary materials and a few hours of free time.

With the help of a press, you can get the juice of grapes and other berries.

The mechanism of the press

Presses allow you to fully extract the juice from pre-crushed fruits. For small berries such as grapes, screw presses are best because they provide a higher percentage of processed raw materials and the driest cake. In the case of white grapes, pressing should be carried out immediately after crushing, and for red varieties, this process is best done a few days after the start of fermentation. In order to obtain an optimal squeezing process, the design of the press must contain the following elements:

  1. Frame. It is welded from a metal profile with a thick wall that will withstand significant loads.
  2. A tray with a hole for a tube through which the juice will flow. Can be made from plastic or more durable stainless steel.
  3. A barrel made of oak, birch, beech or other indifferent wood that will not affect the taste of the juice. You can also use a metal container.
  4. Pressing element. It should be made of hard layers of wood or metal alloys, as it will be subjected to significant loads.
  5. Filter fabric with a fine mesh made of polymeric material.
  6. Power screw for squeezing juice.

Such a simple design is capable of providing high performance and efficiency, as well as a fairly good spin quality. The grapes are loaded into the basket, after which the juice is squeezed out of it using a screw mechanism. The body can be made of steel or wood. The first option will be more preferable due to high wear resistance and toughness, which is very important for use in a press.

How to make a grape press

It should be understood that it is impossible to make an industrial press yourself at home, but for domestic purposes, a home-made press is enough. In addition, it often simply does not make sense to purchase a high-performance and expensive industrial device. A homemade press will look like in fig. one.

Where: 1 - clamp; 2 - rack; 3 - overlap; 4 - power screw; 5 - emphasis; 6 - table;

7 - sleeve with a pressed nut.

Figure 1. The device of the press for squeezing grapes. (Transcription in the text).

First of all, you need to make a frame. It can be made from steel pipes or wooden bars. It is best to use the first option, since such a frame is able to withstand significant loads. To do this, it is necessary to prepare 2 pipes with a diameter of 22 mm, which will be used as racks. After that, a U-shaped profile made of steel 3 mm thick can be welded on top. Its height must be selected in such a way that a screw nut pressed into a steel sleeve can be placed inside. If the structure will be attached to a window sill or other support, a clamp must be welded to each rack from below. On one side of the screw, a head with a hole for the handle should be welded, on the other, a press that will compress the grapes.

The juice collection basket can easily be replaced by a small old unnecessary pan, in the bottom of which a hole should be drilled. Its diameter should slightly exceed the dimensions of the hose used.

The basket in which the extraction will take place can be made of ordinary stainless steel of arbitrary thickness with perforation with a drill for the passage of juice. In order for the basket to be exactly in the center of the pan, it must be fixed with bandages - rings made of the same stainless steel or other metal. Filtration pads can be made from stainless steel discs or from polymer mesh.

The end of summer, the beginning of autumn is the time for picking fruits, vegetables, apples, grapes. And if the harvest is large, then an ordinary electric juicer will not cope. In this case, you need a press to squeeze juice from fruits to give. Now there are a lot of offers on the network for various presses and crushers, hydraulic, screw, pneumatic, wooden, but the biggest disadvantage of these products is the high price. Making a juice press with your own hands is not difficult, you need small skills of a locksmith, welder. And the cost of a home-made press for grapes or apples is several times lower than the purchased one.

For the winemaker, such a device will facilitate his work and save a lot of time. The simplest version of a home press-juicer is based on squeezing juice from the pulp of fruits or vegetables. Previously, apples are crushed with special crushers, a grape crusher is used, and then juice is squeezed out of this mass. With this technology, pure juice without pulp comes out, ready for fermentation, or for pasteurization and further storage.

A simple do-it-yourself grape press

A screw press for grapes consists of: a base - a frame, a basket, a pressure device (shaft or jack), a pressing piston. Other options for manufacturing the device are also possible. When choosing a material, it is not necessary to follow the description exactly, and you can make your own drawings of a Persian.

Tools and materials for the press:

  • Welding machine;
  • Drill;
  • Bulgarian;
  • Tank - 50 liters;
  • Metal channel 10-12 mm - 150 mm;
  • Metal corner 40-50 mm - 3200 mm;
  • Oak slats 40x25x400 mm - 50 pcs;
  • Fabric - 1 sq.m;
  • Jack - 1 pc;
  • Faucet - 1 piece;
  • Fishing line 2 mm - 3 m.

How to make a juice press

1. Frame. The base is one of the most important elements of the press, the frame must be a very strong structure, it bears all the load during operation. The side parts of the press are made of metal corners 85 mm high. The upper and lower parts of the frame must be made from a channel 70 cm long, you can further strengthen the structure by welding scarves between the corners and the channel. All parts are welded at all points of contact.
If a screw press design is used, then a nut for the screw must be welded to the upper channel. In addition to the metal frame, you can use wooden boards with a thickness of 5 centimeters or more. The boards are fastened with 10-12 mm studs and tightened with nuts. It is easier to make a wooden press, but the design does not withstand heavy loads; for a small crop, it is quite a suitable option. The finished frame must be sanded and painted with a special paint for metal.

2. Tank for the press. This design uses a stainless steel brew tank with a volume of 50 liters. A hole was drilled in the lower part of the boiler tank and a stainless steel tap was installed. Instead of a tank, you can use a regular pot of a suitable size.
A lattice of oak slats is inserted into the container. The blanks are cut from an oak board (you can use a parquet board), their height is equal to the height of the pan. Along the edges at the ends of the rails, holes of 2-3 mm are drilled through them, a fishing line or stainless wire is passed through them. By connecting all the planks, you get a kind of basket.
There should be a gap of 2-3 mm between the slats, through which fruit juice will ooze. You can do without a pan at all by connecting the boards with galvanized steel hoops and placing the basket on a tray into which the squeezed liquid will drain.
As a pallet, a plastic pallet from a large flower pot or a stainless steel kitchen sink can be used. There is a design where the grape press is made frame, there is no basket in it, the cake is placed in the fabric between the drainage grates in several layers and choked.

3.Piston. The piston for the press must be made from the remaining oak boards, folding them crosswise, using a compass, draw a circle of the desired size and cut it out with an electric jigsaw. Twist the rails with stainless steel screws or tie with copper, stainless wire. If the farm has a log, then you can saw off a circle of the required diameter and height.

4. Power mechanism. A jack or screw is used as a pressure mechanism in an apple press. A hydraulic car jack with a lifting capacity of 3 tons will be quite enough in a juice extractor. For more confident work, you can use jacks that create a force equal to more than 3 tons. The screw for the press is more difficult to find, and every motorist has a jack. Under the jack, you need to cut planks for laying during the spin cycle.

5. Fabric for filtering. To filter the juice from apple fruits, you need a durable fabric that can pass moisture. The easiest option is to take a nylon sugar bag. Nylon, lavsan, propylene, polyester are also suitable for filtering, or use durable cotton material, dense linen, so as not to tear under pressure.

So, the manual fruit press is ready, how to squeeze the juice? Insert the basket into the tank, place the material to be filtered inside. Soft fruits, berries, citrus fruits are crushed without pre-treatment. Apples, carrots or other hard fruits must be crushed in a crusher or use pulp from a juicer, loaded into a basket, covered with a lid.

Install the jack, substitute the receiving container, open the tap and slowly press. Do not immediately try to squeeze out all the juice, you can damage the frame or the fabric will tear. Do three or four strokes, wait a while, then three or four more strokes, and so on. From one bucket of apple cake from a juicer, 3-4 liters of pure juice comes out, a little more from the crushed mass.

What if you do not have a juicer, and the trees in the country are bent under the weight of apples that need to be urgently processed into juice? A similar problem arises for winemakers: now there are few people who want to crush juicy berries for wine by hand or trample them.

Home craftsmen offer a way out - to make a mechanical press to extract juice from grapes or other fruits.

Principle of operation and main elements

Manual screw juicers are made using various methods using auxiliary parts - old barrels, pans, tanks from a washing machine, planks, a jack.

Most often, the press includes such components: a basket, a thrust mechanism, a base, a punch (pressing body). The basket is placed on the base, placing under it a tray for receiving juice. A chute is provided in the tray, under which a juice collector is placed.

Steel wine press: design

To make a seemingly simple product, you need to have skills in plumbing and turning, to own a welding machine.

  • Two cylindrical containers without a bottom with a diameter of 29 cm and 23 cm are made from a stainless tank from an unnecessary washing machine, both are 24 cm high
  • Holes with a diameter of 8 mm are drilled in a small cylinder in a checkerboard pattern. The inner container (basket) is designed for loading grapes, and the outer one is for juice.
  • Under the cylinders there is a rectangular stainless steel tray (30 x 50 cm) with sides and a triangular bevel (the side is cut off in its narrow part). To drain the juice in the outer cylinder, you need to make a cut
  • The role of the punch is played by a flange with a diameter of 21 cm. It is rigidly attached to the bottom of the rod with a trapezoidal or rectangular thread - for example, to a screw from a water valve. At the top, a head with a hole for a lever is welded to it, with which the thrust mechanism is actuated
  • Together with the screw, a nut welded into the U-shaped frame works. The frame is rigidly connected to the base - it can be concreted into the floor or fastened to the table with screws

How does a grape press work?

  1. The berries are loaded into the inner pan, then the screw is tightened with a lever
  2. When the spin starts, the rotation is slower, controlling the exit of juice into the pan
  3. At the end of the grape pressing, the screw is unscrewed in the opposite direction.
  4. To reduce the pressure on the sides of the press, it is advisable to perforate the thrust flange with a 4 mm drill
  5. And another tip: weld bandage rings to the basket at the top and bottom so that it is located in the center of the outer container

This design is used not only for grapes, but also for obtaining juice from apples, currants, chokeberries and even herbs. To maximize the yield of the finished product, such raw materials are crushed into crumbs or ground into a meat grinder.

The prepared pulp is wrapped in napkins made of durable fabric (for example, lavsan). Portions do not exceed 2 kg - there should be no more than three such layers. They are separated by drainage gaskets made of pairwise welded perforated stainless discs with a thickness of 2 (thrust rings 4 mm thick are placed between them).

Wooden apple press

The previous model is quite reliable, but it has several disadvantages. Cooking thin stainless steel is quite difficult; this requires special equipment and electrodes. You can simplify the design by making a basket of boards, you can even parquet.

  • To get a working body with a capacity of 20 liters, you will need 20 boards 320 x 50 x 15 mm
  • They are attached with self-tapping screws to 2 stainless steel strips 0.5-1 mm thick. The distance between the boards is kept 10-12 mm. After that, the strips are bent, their ends are connected with stainless steel bolts.
  • Diameter of the resulting basket - 29 cm, height - 32 cm

  • The role of the punch is played by a wooden circle with a diameter of 27 cm. You can do without a thrust flange if you put planks under the screw
  • At the bottom, along the entire contour of the basket, a drain chute is laid to ensure the juice exits.
  • An ordinary plastic bowl is used as a pallet: a hole is drilled in it and a tube is inserted there
  • Apples are finely cut, wrapped in gauze and placed in bales in a basket
  • Boards are laid between the layers to increase the pressure of the press during the lowering of the piston. For one working cycle, 3.5-4 liters of juice are obtained
  • To make a homemade juicer, a car jack is used instead of a screw. In this case, you do not have to grind the nut, but you need to provide a solid base against which the mechanism designed to lift the car rests.
  • The frame wooden press works even without a basket. The metal elements in it are a screw with a nut and drainage gratings that are laid between the bags of raw materials. In this case, the pallet should be with high sides so that the juice of grapes or other fruits does not splash on the sides.

  • Before reuse, wipes for bags are thoroughly washed in water, and boiled for a long break. The pulp or berries are wrapped only in a damp cloth so that the finished product does not have an unpleasant odor
  • The cake of apples and pears is thrown away, as they are of no value. Kissels and fruit drinks are cooked from berry pomace
  • After making juice for wine, the wooden basket is washed with an ordinary dishwasher brush, and then scalded with boiling water.

The end of summer and the beginning of autumn is the period of mass gathering of vegetables, fruits and berries. A bountiful harvest is great, but it all needs to be recycled. For example, making juice from grapes or apples is a laborious process. You can get by with an ordinary juicer, but if there are a lot of raw materials, then it will take a lot of time. It is better to use a special press. Let's figure out how to make a grape press with your own hands.

Grape press: simple design

Those presses that are sold in stores are diverse, one significant disadvantage of such mechanisms is the high price. With some skills, the device can be made independently, while saving enough money. In particular, the grape press will be indispensable helpers for winemakers.

The simplest home-made grape press is a screw design consisting of the following elements:

  • base (frame and basket);
  • pressure device (jack or shaft);
  • pressing piston.

To make a grape press, you will need the following items and equipment: a welding machine, a drill and a grinder, a 50-liter tank, a metal channel (10-12 mm; 150 mm), a corner (40-50 mm; 3200 mm), wooden slats (40x25x400 mm) - 50 pieces, jack, fabric (square meter), 2 mm fishing line - 3 meters, crane.

Manufacturing process

Work should begin with the preparation of the base of the entire structure.

Frame. This element must meet high strength requirements, since it will bear the main load. The side parts are made from corners, the height of which is 85 cm. The lower and upper parts are a channel 70 cm long. Welding is used to connect the frame elements.

Advice! To enhance the strength of the structure, you can additionally weld a scarf between the channel and the corners.

The finished frame is sanded and covered with paint for metal.

The tank must be stainless steel. At the bottom of the tank, it is necessary to drill a hole in which the crane will be attached.

Advice! Instead of a tank, you can use a stainless steel pot that is suitable in size.

A lattice of wooden slats is inserted into the container. The height of the rails must be equal to the height of the tank. Holes (2-3 mm) are drilled at the ends of the rails, through which a fishing line or stainless steel wire is pulled. The result should be a kind of basket through which the juice will ooze. The gap between the rails should be no more than 2-3 mm.

You can not use the tank at all. The slats are pulled together with a galvanized hoop, the basket is installed in a tray where the juice will drain. As a pallet, you can use a stand from a large flower pot or a stainless steel kitchen sink.

The crusher for grapes can be a frame, the installation of a basket in this design is not provided. The grapes are placed in a fabric multi-layer bag between the bars and choked in this form.

The piston for the press is made of wood (preferably oak), you can take the remains of the rails. The main thing is to get a round part that will fit into the basket in diameter. The slats are folded together, a circle is cut out, and the parts are connected with self-tapping screws or wire.

The power mechanism is a jack or a screw. Under the jack you need to put a few planks during the spin cycle.

Filter bag, Here you should pay attention to the structure of the fabric. Suitable kapron, lavsan, polyester, propylene, durable cotton or linen fabric. The main thing is that while squeezing the juice, the bag does not tear.

Principle of operation

A basket is inserted into the tank and a filter bag is placed. Berries are placed here, a piston and a jack are installed. The crane must be opened and a receiving container placed. Give carefully, sudden movements can damage the frame or fabric bag. You need to squeeze the juice, making several strokes with interruptions.

The main tool for creating wine and juice at home with your own hands is a grape press. This device is used by both amateurs and industrial enterprises. However, a self-made grape press is very different from an industrial device.

Design features

Consider the main characteristics inherent in the home press.

  • This device is needed so that you can get high quality grape juice. How good the juice or wine will be depends on how the fermentation goes.
  • The main function of the press is the separation of juice from the pulp, seeds and skin of grapes.
  • Subsequently, this juice is squeezed out. A significant feature is that the juice is separated from the pulp with virtually no damage to the bones or brushes.
  • This design for separating the must from the pulp consists of several gears, rollers with a wavy surface, and two empty containers. The grapes are crushed in the first container, and the resulting juice enters the second container.
  • Rollers are fixed on the gears. The design has a special handle with which the press is rotated, as a result of which these two elements begin to rotate towards each other.

  • A special system is built into the press device, thanks to which it is possible to control the gap between the gear and the roller. Thanks to this mechanism, you can easily squeeze juice from any other fruits and vegetables using this device.
  • The smallest gap distance is 0.3cm and the largest is 0.8cm.
  • This design is considered a pressure device, regardless of its subspecies: hydraulic, manual or screw press. In addition to such a device, a stove and a basket are attached. This is where the grape juice separates from the skin.
  • A drainage system is installed between the two discs, through which the resulting juice is drained.
  • Under the press there is a special rod with a continuous helical surface. With the help of it, unnecessary products are eliminated after draining the juice.
  • The end result of the process of passing the grapes through the press is pure juice drained into an empty container.

Any device designed for pressing grapes, apples or other fruits includes 4 stages of pressing:

  • first, the grape juice is separated from the pulp under a slope using its own gravity;
  • obtaining juice of the first pressure;
  • obtaining juice of the second pressure;
  • obtaining juice of the third pressure.

Varieties of devices

Before you buy a press for squeezing grape juice or other fruits and vegetables, you need to carefully study all the varieties of these devices.

All industrial presses for wringing can be divided into the following categories.

mechanical press

Such a device is a fixed cast-iron base on which a special basket made of wood is installed. This solution is characterized by good performance, reasonable price and small dimensions. A mechanical fruit and vegetable squeezer is considered by many winemakers to be the ideal solution for making juice at home.

However, such a device is only suitable for processing a small amount of fruit, since physical force will have to be used to operate it.

Electric press

This subgroup includes two more types of press: hydraulic and pneumatic. Such devices are made of excellent quality stainless steel, so that the press will not rust. This solution will not add any side flavors to your juice. The hydraulic press works with the help of water, the pneumatic one - with the help of high air pressure, which is created by a special pump. Both the hydraulic and pneumatic versions of the pump operate on electric current only.

The main advantage of this solution is high device performance.

Universal press

Many people want their device to be able to squeeze juice not only from grapes, but also from any other fruit and vegetable. Universal presses have long established themselves on the market and are in great demand because they can be used to squeeze juice from apples, cherries, oranges and other crops. This greatly expands the possibilities of making juices and wines.

Each winemaker can buy a five-liter device for pressing grapes and use it at home. All press options are similar in function, however, the material from which the structure is made often differs. The most popular are 2 types of devices: a press made of wood and metal.

  • wooden version is environmentally friendly, and does not cause any harm to human health. However, it is very difficult to take care of such a device, since after each use you will have to rinse the device very thoroughly and disinfect it.
  • Metal variant The device is an alloy of cast iron and stainless steel. If the design is based on metal, then this device will be durable. The press, made of metal, is very easy to use and is hygienic, as it does not add any extra tastes and smells to the resulting grape juice.

How to make a press with your own hands?

In the modern world, in home use, juicers and food processors easily outshine a full-fledged mechanical press. With their help, you can easily squeeze juice from grapes or other fruits and vegetables, however, not every owner will be satisfied with the result. The main disadvantage of food processors is that too much pulp remains in the resulting juice, and not everyone likes this.

You can also buy a special screw press, produced at the factory, which is able to perfectly perform all the functions of juicers much better than themselves. However, not all people are ready to buy something that you can assemble yourself with little effort.

Below we will consider one of the easiest types of grape press, which does not require any drawings. With this design, you can easily squeeze out your entire crop.

  • First you need to pick up large dishes. This is where we put the berries. Experts recommend using a drum from a washing machine. Using a drill on the walls of the vessel, you need to make small holes in a chaotic manner.
  • Next, you will need dishes with a diameter larger than the drum of the machine. It should be a round dish without a bottom.
  • In a container that is larger in diameter, you need to install the drum of the washing machine, and place a small wooden plank in the distance between the containers.

  • A U-shaped frame should be built from wood. On the resulting "horizontal bar" you need to fix the chassis. It is a fairly dense pancake made of cast iron or stainless steel. It is fixed on the frame with a special lever, for this the frame should be drilled.
  • Both containers must be installed in a large basin. It also drills a small hole the size of a hose. A hose must be connected to this basin in order to separate the resulting juice.
  • The crossbar in the shape of the letter "P" should be firmly fixed in the ground, it is the main part of this design. Subsequently, an assembly is installed on it, consisting of a basin made of food-grade polymers, and a pair of vessels fixed in each other.
  • You will need another large empty container. A hose that comes out of your structure will be sent to it. Ready grape juice will begin to merge here.
  • Place the berries in the drum of the washing machine, and cover with a metal sheet or cover with boards. On top you need to put a cast-iron pancake. The force of pressure should be controlled with a lever.
  • As a result of the manipulations, you get grape juice, which is drained through a hose into an empty container.

Experienced winemakers do not recommend pressing grape softness more than 2-3 times.

Grape juice obtained after the first pressing is excellent for quality wines or expensive fruit drinks.
