Do-it-yourself table made of 50x50 bars. Wooden table in the gazebo with your own hands. Other materials and tools

To make a table for a summer residence from a bar with your own hands, you need to arm yourself with materials, tools, as well as a good mood and a great desire to decorate the surrounding space and life.

Timber tables are valued for their environmental friendliness and structural strength.

Preparatory activities

Many owners of summer cottages prefer to equip their territory on their own. Having a simple carpentry tool and the skills to work with it, you can independently build comfortable furniture.

To make a good table for giving, you need to choose high-quality wood. Only then will a durable and reliable product be obtained. You can use wooden bars and boards. It is better to give preference to well-dried material. When using poorly dried wood, you may encounter the fact that the finished product will dry out, crack and lose stability.

If the wood of coniferous tree species is chosen, then it is necessary to remove the characteristic resinousness from it. To do this, you need a solvent and rags. The procedure must be carried out several times and only done outside, since the solvents have a very strong odor.

The main thing for the table is stability. To achieve this, it is necessary to accurately measure and prepare all the details in accordance with them. Therefore, the first stage of work is drawing up a drawing. A detailed diagram will help not only to imagine what kind of future table will have, but also to correctly calculate the required amount of material.

Also for work you will need:

  1. Beam and boards.
  2. Saw.
  3. Electric drill.
  4. A set of sandpaper or grinder.
  5. Screwdriver or screwdriver.
  6. Self-tapping screws.
  7. Level.
  8. Roulette.
  9. Ruler and pencil.
  10. Varnish and paint brush.

Making a countertop

Before starting work, you need to decide what appearance the future table will have and what its design will be.

The most common option is a square or rectangular tabletop and 4 timber legs.

The table for a summer residence can have the most different sizes. For example, a product 1000 mm long, 600 mm wide and 700 mm high is suitable for both a small gazebo and a veranda.

The board for the countertop must be processed and have the same length and thickness. The necessary details are cut from the prepared material. The tabletop will consist of 4 parts with a size of 150x700 mm and 2 parts with a size of 150x600 mm. To strengthen the structure, you will need 4 thin strips measuring 70x590 mm.

The longest boards are laid on a flat surface tightly to each other. On the reverse side, they are fastened with thin strips laid horizontally. After that, parts with a size of 150x600 mm are fixed at the ends. For fastening, the same thin strips are used. The result is a flat canvas.

It should be noted that every detail must be carefully polished. This can be done with sandpaper. The use of a grinder will save time and facilitate the work of grinding.

Frame manufacturing

The next stage of work is the manufacture of a frame under the countertop. To do this, you will need the following blanks: from a board with a thickness of 25 mm, you need to cut 1 piece 100x990 mm in size, 2 pieces 100x910 mm in size and 4 pieces 100x460 mm in size. From a board 40 mm thick, cut 2 segments 100x590 mm in size, and 8 segments 700 mm long must be cut from a bar with a section of 40x40 mm.

To make the upper part of the frame, boards 100x910 mm in size are laid out on a flat surface and 2 pieces 100x460 mm in size are laid out on the ends. You can fasten them together with self-tapping screws. Then, inside this rectangle, at an equal distance from each other, the remaining short blanks are attached, which will play the role of stiffeners.

For the manufacture of the lower part of the frame, it is necessary to prepare two U-shaped parts, each of which consists of two legs fastened together with a bar. Both parts are also fastened together with a long strap.

Each leg is made up of 4 bars glued together. This was done so that you do not have to cut a recess to install a horizontal fastening bar. For glued bars, you only have to cut two pieces of the required size. Thus, for the manufacture of the U-shaped part, you must first lay 2 bars. From above, fix a horizontal bar that will connect both parts to each other. Then, above the bar and below it, segments of two other bars are attached.

To complete the installation of the upper part of the frame, those bars that will be on the inside must have a length of 100 mm less. The result is a structure of two prefabricated bars measuring 80x80 mm each, which are held together by a horizontal bar.

The second U-shaped part is made in the same way. Both parts are fastened together with a bar measuring 100x990 mm.

Construction assembly

The upper and lower parts of the frame are fastened together, that is, the upper part with stiffeners is “put on” on the lower part, which consists of two U-shaped parts. After that, a tabletop can be attached to the frame. For ease of fixing, the worktop blank must be laid on a flat surface with the wrong side up. The side of the frame that should be at the top is placed on the countertop. You can fasten the parts together using metal corners and self-tapping screws.

The assembled table must be treated with a protective compound that will help preserve the wood from damage and insects and extend its service life. Flaws found on the surface of the wood must be treated with putty and then sanded.

After that, you can use any topcoat, such as varnish. After applying the first layer, the surface is again polished. Then another 2-3 layers are applied.

In the country, you always want to equip a cozy place to relax, where friends and relatives will gather. And for this you need a table. Of course, it can be purchased at a furniture store. However, everyone wants to create something of their own, individual. Therefore, let's talk about how to build a table from a bar for a summer residence. In order for the result to please you for many years, you must adhere to some rules.

What will be discussed:

Advantages

Choosing furniture for the country is not difficult now, as the market offers all sorts of options. But many people want to do it themselves. This will save the budget and show all your imagination. Many people get real pleasure from working with wood. It's so nice to do something yourself, and then enjoy the work done.

Material characteristic

Initially, a drawing of a table from a bar for a summer residence is selected, and then material is selected for it.

A bar is the main material that is used in most cases to create supports for the future table. However, there are options when they make the entire table out of timber with their own hands. This is a more complex project, but the end result looks much more attractive. So it's up to you to choose.

And we will not be afraid of difficulties and will try to make a table for giving from timber and boards.

Preparation for work

Before proceeding with the assembly of the table, it is necessary to purchase and prepare all the tools and materials. We will need:

  • jigsaw;
  • Sander;
  • screwdriver;
  • roulette;

  • bars with a section of 100x100 and 150x150;
  • boards;
  • corners for connection;
  • furniture plugs;
  • brushes.

Before you make a table from a bar, you need to designate its dimensions, and then saw it according to the drawings, as in the photo. Let's make a table 90 * 150 cm, and 110 cm high. For him, you need to prepare:

  • timber 100x100 mm - 4 parts 105 cm each;
  • 2 bars of 75 cm and 2 bars of 135 cm;
  • board 50 * 150 mm - 6 parts of 135 cm and 1 d. 90 cm;
  • rail 10 * 40 mm - 5 d. 145 and 2 d. 85 cm each.

All elements must be thoroughly sanded with sandpaper or a grinder. Make sure that not a single knot is left, otherwise, after using the table, you can harm your body. Wipe the parts from wooden dust with a damp sponge and paint over with an antiseptic that will protect your wooden table from a bar

Assembly

So we came to the fact that we will assemble a table from a bar: the photo shows this process. First you need to assemble the supports. To do this, the prepared bars are fastened together with the help of small bars, as shown in the photo.

To make the tabletop harder:

  • A 90cm board is cut in half along the entire length;
  • The rest of the boards are laid between the two halves. So the countertop is typed;
  • Now it needs to be connected. In the extreme boards, 6 wide holes must be made. From below it is necessary to fasten the rail along the entire joint. It is recommended to fix in a checkerboard pattern at a distance of 20 cm from each other.

At the end, the legs remain attached to the tabletop using furniture corners. In order for the table to look aesthetically pleasing, it is necessary to install furniture plugs in the color of wood on all screws.

Painting

After the table is assembled from profiled timber, it must be varnished. If you want to change the color of the wood, you can buy a varnish with stain for a specific wood species. Thus, you can create a table from oak, linden, pine, etc. The varnish will dry completely in two days.

Table setting

When the varnish is completely dry, the table can be installed in the chosen place and everything is beautifully arranged to create an unsurpassed atmosphere of warmth and comfort, and natural materials will only emphasize the special notes of comfort in your country house.

Friends asked me to make a table that can be put in a gazebo in the country. To make a table from a bar with my own hands, I did not choose a special version of the project, but proposed a simple scheme for assembling furniture from standard lumber: timber and boards. The main idea was that the table was low and could serve as a bench at the same time. In the workshop I had all the tools and fixtures. It remained to check everything and prepare the workplace in order to make a table of timber with your own hands.

Instruments

Since the structure must be made of wood, the tool was mainly needed for woodworking. Here's what I used when making my own table from a bar:

  • jigsaw;
  • saw;
  • gas-burner;
  • drill driver;
  • wrench with socket head;
  • chisels;
  • drill-reamer ø 2 cm;
  • a hammer;
  • hacksaw;
  • clamps - 2 pcs.;
  • die for cutting external threads ø 6 mm;
  • grinder;
  • roulette;
  • brushes.

materials

Made a trip to the construction supermarket, and purchased the following:

  • varnish PF 170 - 0.5 l.;
  • wood glue;
  • screws 7 cm, 50 cm, washers and nuts, plastic plugs.

Step-by-step instructions on how to make a wooden table from a bar with your own hands

Initially, I wanted to make a table of 50 x 50 mm bars with my own hands. But this idea had to be abandoned. Friends asked to make massive loft-style furniture. Therefore, I used larger lumber. I decided to make the table in two stages: assembling the supporting structure and forming the table top.

Countertop manufacturing

  1. Wood 10 x 15 x 600 cm was divided with a saw into 6 segments.
  2. The upper corners along the perimeter of each element were cleaned with an abrasive wheel at an angle of 45 0 0.5 cm wide.
  3. To make 2 through holes ø 6 mm through the tabletop, I clamped 3 pieces with clamps and drilled with a drill. Then he left 2 segments and added a new element and drilled again. I did this because there was no long drill.
  4. Outside, the holes were expanded with a reamer ø 2 cm to a depth of 1 cm.
  5. Rebar ø 6 mm sawn into 2 pieces 0.9 m long.
  6. At the ends of the studs, I cut the thread with a die.
  7. The side adjacent sides of the wooden elements were smeared with wood glue.
  8. I threaded 2 studs into the holes. I put washers on the ends of the rods, and screwed the nuts.
  9. Nuts closed with plastic caps.

  1. I sanded all the side and horizontal surfaces with a fine abrasive wheel mounted on a grinder.
  1. The gas burner burned the surface of the countertop slightly. This gave a noble appearance to the tree, emphasizing the structural pattern of the cut of the tree.
  2. The entire countertop was stained with a brush.
  3. The property of this agent is characterized by the fact that it penetrates deeply into the structure of wood, strengthening and disinfecting it. But fine fibers create hairiness on the surface of the furniture. So I refinished everything.
  4. The surface of the tabletop was varnished PF 170 for 2 times.

Assembly of the support structure

Before making a table from a bar, I drew drawings of the supporting part and countertops of future furniture. According to the dimensions and dimensions specified in the drawings, I began to manufacture the supporting structure of the table with my own hands.

  1. I made furniture legs by sawing a tree 10 x 20 cm into 2 parts 86 cm long + waste.
  2. At the top of the supports from the outside, I fixed bars of 30 x 30 mm on screws.
  3. I made a cross-beam from a board 20 x 150 x 660 cm, fixing it with screws to the centers of the sides of the supports.

  1. I burned the entire outer surface with a gas burner, covered it with stain, and polished it.
  2. Supports varnished PF 170 in two layers.
  3. The tabletop was mounted on a support frame.
  4. Through slats 30 x30 mm, I fixed the table top with screws.

Cost of materials

  • timber 100 x 150 x 6000 mm = 1500 rubles;
  • timber 100 x 200 x 2000 mm = 440 rubles;
  • timber 30 x 30 x 2000 mm = 50 rubles;
  • board 20 x 150 x 740 mm = 20 rubles;
  • abrasive wheels for grinders = 50 rubles;
  • reinforcement with a diameter of ø 6 mm, length 2 m = 20 rubles;
  • nuts and washers 4 pcs. in stock;
  • sandpaper = 10 rubles;
  • stain - 0.5 l. = 100 rubles;
  • varnish PF 170 - 0.5 l. = 50 rubles;
  • carpentry glue 250 g = 160 rubles;
  • screws 70 mm, 50 mm available.

Total costs amounted to: 2400 rubles.

Labor costs

The time spent on making a do-it-yourself table from a bar according to the drawings is combined in the following table.

Taking into account technological breaks in work, it was possible to make a table in 3 working days. A country table made of timber, made by me according to the drawings, can play a role not only as a plane for arranging objects, but also as comfortable seating furniture. This model attracts with ease of manufacture, low labor costs and practicality. During the assembly of furniture, you must comply with all safety requirements and use personal protective equipment.

Free time for many gardeners is worth its weight in gold. As soon as the weekend, they rush to their site to weed the beds, water the tomatoes and cucumbers and sit with the family for a meal in the fresh air. Given the lack of time, I want to make a table and benches, if not for centuries, then at least for decades. With proper processing, wood can adequately cope with this task, although it is considered far from being the most durable material.

At least, it was thought so, but with the advent of all kinds of impregnations and primers that will protect the wood from rotting, getting wet and burning, this opinion becomes not so relevant. However, impregnation treatment is the finishing stage, and at the start we need to decide on the main design and materials. In search of new ones, look around you - they may be, as they say, under your nose!

The easiest way to build a sturdy table is to use a thick log that is cut horizontally to the desired height, planed, sanded, and varnished if desired. There are only two flaws in this scheme - firstly, where can I get such a thick log, and secondly, where can I get a chainsaw that can handle it? It will not be possible to build a table, so at least for the chairs you will find plenty of necessary logs, and with a chainsaw there will be no problems.

By the way, it is not necessary to chop anything to get the basis for furniture. A living tree can serve as an excellent base for the construction of a circular bench, on which you will rest with great pleasure during the harvest. As legs, you can use ordinary thick branches, dug or driven a third into the ground around the tree. When hammering, carefully measure the level of each leg, so that in the end you get a flat bench. When they are clogged, nail or tie with a rope to the end of the branches, located horizontally, so that one end of the branch rests on the tree. When all the horizontal branches are ready, make a dense wattle fence from the willow twigs prepared in advance. Once the branches dry, your shop is ready!

What else should be a table in a wooden gazebo, if not wooden? However, not everyone will be able to put together a table from boards, and there may not be the right tools. But you can get out of the situation with the help of a bar - reliable, strong and utterly simple tables and you can make them in a matter of hours!

The most important thing in the design is that the bars are even and fitted to each other.

In total, you will need from three to five bars, depending on the length and height of the table. To begin with, we will make the legs - for this we measure two pieces of timber from half a meter to a meter (depending on the desired width of the table) and two more pieces of a smaller width. The long bar will form the basis of the lower part of the legs, the shorter bars will lie on top of them. If the table will always stand in one place, and the bars are adjusted as carefully as possible to each other, then it will be enough to fasten the tree with carpentry glue. Or from the inside, for reliability, fasten the bars with slats.

When the bars are fitted and fastened, we put another bar across them from above - its length should be equal to the length of the countertop. Bars similar in size are laid on top of it, only those that are smaller go first, and then those that are larger. Having fastened the parts with carpentry glue and making sure that everything is perfectly even, we lay wide rough boards on the topmost row, which can either be nailed or planted on the same carpentry glue. Only in the last case on top of the structure you need to put a heavy load for several days, for example, several bags of cement so that the tree grabs stronger.

When the wood has set properly, the countertop must be processed with a planer, rounding off all sharp corners and sanding the countertop with sandpaper. Your table is almost ready - you just need to cover it with water-repellent compounds and parquet varnish that repels insects. Such furniture will certainly stand for decades, while ordinary wooden tables will become unusable long ago.

In the old days of furniture makers, craftsmen were fluent in techniques that allowed them to assemble furniture without a single nail. As a rule, they used glue in the process. Yes, and they cooked it right there, within the walls of their workshop.

Such furniture, contrary to modern ideas, was very strong and served people for decades. In extreme cases, if a breakdown occurred, the same master disassembled the product, cleaned the old glue and updated the adhesive joint, after which the furniture continued to delight its owner.

Even in our time, all the unpretentious secrets on how to make furniture without a single nail with your own hands are still not lost, but are available to everyone. Here, however, there are not enough detailed projects on the topic on the net.

The author of this master class will tell you how to assemble a dining table from a bar using only wood glue. Out of habit, in some areas he still used self-tapping screws, but it’s easy to do without them. And having done this, you will receive a valuable, long-forgotten experience of our ancestors.

In order to assemble the table without the use of nails and screws, you will need:

Materials:

Natural timber of any type of wood with which you are used to working, with a section of 50-60 mm;
- proven glue for woodworking;
- protective and decorative oil-toners of suitable shades (can be replaced with alcohol-based stain);
- polyurethane varnish for wood;
- screws, nails or wooden spikes to fix the grooves under the table legs.

Instruments:

Orbital sander with wire, sanding petal and flat nozzle for sanding natural wood;
- Screwdriver or Phillips screwdriver. if you are using screws;
- carpenter's hammer, if you use nails in the process;
- chisel;
- drilling machine, milling cutter or hand drill for making grooves;
- miter saw, circular saw or wood saw;
- sandpaper: coarse and fine-grained;
- clamps;
- a paint brush for stain or a soft, lint-free cloth for protective and decorative oil, as well as a varnish brush;
- masking tape.

Step One: Choosing Materials and Tools

First, decide what tools you will use in the process. If anything, this project allows you to train skills in working with hand tools, such as a planer, jointer, chisel, hand drill and a number of others.

The same applies to the protective and decorative processing of wood. You can use store-bought branded wood-toning oils or alcohol-based stains. Both will allow you to get wonderful results, and you will definitely be satisfied.

But you can do it differently - make your own oils from natural ingredients. Water and alcohol stains can also be made independently. This process is very, very interesting.

If you plan to use hand tools, choose woods that are more malleable, such as pine. If you have a modern carpentry workshop at your disposal, feel free to use wear-resistant ash, acacia, maple or oak. Hardwoods can be stacked for a richer texture finish.

And finally, glue. There is a wide range of modern adhesives on the market, and choosing the right one is not difficult. But you can even make your own glue. Don't forget about it.

Step two: determine the dimensions, mark up and cut the timber

Carefully calculate the dimensions of your future dining table and each of its details separately. To make a countertop, you can use bars along the length of the countertop itself, as well as short cuts. After gluing, the use of small parts will not affect its strength in any way, if you are confident in the quality of your glue.

The table is assembled from a bar, fitted to one size, so it is convenient to work with such material. You need to make sure that the beam is planed on the thickness gauge and has the same section. Otherwise, plan with a thickness gauge or hand tools such as a planer and planer.

Mark the details and cut the timber to predetermined dimensions. You can use an ordinary hand saw for wood or, for example, a miter saw - the only difference is the time that you need to process the parts.

If you do not plan to use metal consumables to connect parts, prepare and test wooden pins in advance. They can be crafted using a sharp knife. The main thing is that they all have the same size - according to the diameter of your drill. In the process of connecting parts, pins, evenly coated with glue, are placed in a fitted hole, while resembling a connection through nails.

Prepare the bottom jumper of the table. You need to remove the excess so that it freely enters the hole made in the legs and is fixed there with a wooden lock. You will also need a wooden castle itself in the amount of a couple of pieces.

In the two central bars of the legs, make holes for the bottom jumper as shown in the photo. You can use any tool you are used to sawing segments, and then remove the excess with a chisel and hammer. Sand the walls of the hole and adjust so that the jumper fits freely but tightly in the groove.

Step three: assemble the table

First, glue the tabletop. Apply glue evenly on the edges of the parts, assemble them in the intended order and place in clamps until the glue hardens. Remove the excess. So, it will be easier for you to grind the workpiece under the countertop.

In the same way, glue the leg panels to the central groove for the bottom jumper. Be sure to use clamps. They will allow you to make the glue line narrower, and the workpiece will turn into a solid monolith and will be much less prone to cracking.

After the glued panels have dried properly, align their edges using a circular saw or a hacksaw. In the second case, pay special attention to the markup. Use a square to draw a strictly perpendicular line, as well as a building level.

On the bottom jumper of the table, make a hole for a wooden lock. The author used a drilling machine and a wood cutter for this. Align the walls of the groove with a chisel and carefully grind them, fitting them to the shape of the lock.

Finally, attach the slats that act as the slots for the table legs to the back of the tabletop. The author used self-tapping screws for this, but you can use wooden pins, nails, or follow his example.

Install the leg panels vertically, place the bottom jumper into the slots and secure them with wooden zip ties. Place the tabletop on top. As you may have guessed, it rests on legs under its own weight, partially fixed in place thanks to the grooves of the rails. The author himself from this idea is simply delighted.

Step four: structuring and processing wood

The author conducted a large-scale experiment in order to learn how to structure a natural tree at home. In addition to the petal attachment and the usual flat grinding wheel, he very successfully tried the wire attachment for his grinder.

The essence of the treatment was that he preliminarily tinted the wood with the help of protective and decorative oil, and then carried out artistic polishing. Part of the wood with toner was thus removed, which allowed him to get the original texture. He used several shades, coloring certain areas of the table separately.

He tried many grinding techniques and their combinations on tinted training boards until he achieved the effect that completely satisfied him. Judge for yourself the results of the experiment.

To protect the tinting and the outer layer of wood, the author used a polyurethane varnish with a semi-matt effect. Apply several coats of varnish to achieve a more durable finish and allow the surface to dry completely.
