How to make a butterfly out of plaster. Do-it-yourself plaster crafts: a master class and a video gallery of finished works. Garden fountain with leaves

Relatively recently, it has become fashionable to do DIY crafts for the garden and garden from plaster. Today, in almost every family that has a private house or cottage, there is someone who expresses a desire to decorate the local area in this way. For the garden plot, you can make various items not only from gypsum, but also with the addition of polymer clay, beads, beads, shells, bottles, etc. By connecting your imagination, you can create a real work of art for the garden with your own hands using improvised means. Such various figurines will enliven your garden and bring new and bright colors to it.

Everyone can get acquainted with several master classes on making interesting items for decorating a house adjoining territory or a summer house from gypsum. Working with such material is a real pleasure, and it also has a nice price. In addition, do-it-yourself gypsum crafts can be painted in various colors, which allows you to decorate the entire garden with interesting and bright objects.

If there is no experience with plaster, then it is recommended to start doing simple crafts with your own hands. In this case, consider the manufacture of multi-colored stone leaves, which can later be placed along the path or near shrubs and favorite plants. Such a master class requires the following materials (photo 1):

  • rhubarb or burdock leaf;
  • sand;
  • cement;
  • paint as desired.

The sheet must be pre-washed to remove unnecessary dirt and dust. After that, put sand on paper or oilcloth, put a sheet on top, tamp it well and pour over the already diluted cement (photo 2-3).

It is necessary to dilute the cement as follows: the dry component is mixed with water until a thick consistency of sour cream is obtained. When pouring it onto a sheet, you need to check that the solution completely covers the workpiece. It remains to let the sculpture dry.

When the craft for the garden or garden hardens, it must be freed from sand and leaf. Now you can start decorating crafts (photo 4). It can be decorated with multi-colored stones, draw drawings on top or emphasize lines with paint. The craft looks good in its natural form. For the garden, colors such as bronze, pink and green are often used. In conclusion, it is recommended to cover the top of the sculpture with a water-repellent mixture or primer so that water does not spoil such beauty over time.

Making garden mushrooms

Gypsum mushrooms will look very beautiful and natural in your garden.

After previous experience, many have probably already convinced that working with a material such as gypsum is not difficult. Therefore, it is recommended not to stop there and start creating a slightly more complex craft.

Such mushrooms are made using the following materials and tools:

  • building plaster;
  • plastic bottle (you can have several different sizes);
  • round plate;
  • food film;
  • wire;
  • acrylic paints;

Let's consider a master class in stages, and on its basis it will be possible to make mushrooms of different sizes in order to arrange them throughout the local area or at least in several places so that they are not lost in a single form in the garden. To make mushrooms, you first need to create legs for them. To do this, cut the prepared plastic bottle by removing the bottom from it. For the stability of the craft, it is recommended to place a wire inside the bottle.

After that, we dilute the gypsum to obtain the desired consistency (thickness of sour cream) and pour it into a bottle. The solution must dry completely, only then you can release the mushroom stem from the bottle. To do this, we make a diagonal cut and remove the plastic with our hands. Now the workpiece needs to be sanded.

The next step is to make a mushroom cap. You will need a deep round plate and a film. The dishes must be covered with cling film so as not to spoil. We dilute the gypsum again, pour it inside the bowl and, without waiting for the workpiece to harden, we place the finished leg in the middle. After hardening, the craft can be freed from the bowl and film.

The final step is decoration. Fantasy is included here, because mushrooms for the garden do not have to be of natural color. You can highlight them or decorate them in accordance with the surrounding landscape. When you finish painting and it dries, do not forget to varnish the mushrooms.

As you can see, such a craft is also done quickly and without much effort and cost. In addition, children can be involved in the very process of creating this sculpture - they will also be interested in making real works of art for the garden with their own hands.

Funny flowerbed cat

The next master class is already suitable for craftsmen in the matter of creating plaster crafts for giving. And if you have practiced with the previous master classes, then you can safely proceed to more complex tasks.

We propose to create a flower bed in the form of a funny cat. To do this, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • rubber gloves;
  • cement;
  • gypsum;
  • sand;
  • water;
  • plastic bottle (large);
  • wire;
  • slats made of wood;
  • paint and varnish.

First of all, we cut the bottle, which will serve as a flower bed. After that, the form must be well wrapped with wire, which will cling to the cement solution, because otherwise it will simply slide along the plastic. Then it is necessary to knock down the frame from the rails and attach it to the plastic blank (photo 5).

Let's start mixing the solution. This must be done with the calculation of 1 part of sand to 1 part of cement. Gypsum is already added to the finished mixture, since the solution with this component will harden quickly. Do not forget to wear gloves, and knead the solution itself with a separate stick.

Now you can proceed to the most difficult part of the process - sculpting the desired shape. It is necessary to take the prepared solution in hand, add 1 tbsp. l. gypsum, then knead it in your hand and, having rolled it up with a sausage, attach it to the frame. So, the solution should be applied in stages, separating the necessary bulges and smoothing the surface of the workpiece.

While the frame dries up, you can create a muzzle of a cat. Here you will need experience from childhood, when various plasticine figures were sculpted. Using the same technology, we create the muzzle of an animal from a small ball. And for better fastening of small elements, it is necessary to first lubricate the body with water, exactly those places where a new layer will be applied.

Finally, with wet hands, polish the surface of the craft. For better drying, the product must be covered with cellophane and set aside for at least 3 days. However, the cat should not be forgotten. On the first day of drying, it must be additionally moistened with water. When the craft is completely dry, it should be sanded with sandpaper (photo 8).

It remains to paint the cat. This can be done with water-based paint, car paint or enamel. After painting, it is necessary to cover the surface with varnish as well, so that the flowerbed for giving under the influence of adverse weather conditions does not deteriorate.

"Swans in the Garden"

I want to bring to your attention a method for making garden swans from gypsum ..... I want to stipulate that the video MK was originally prepared, but due to negligence, the video files and some photos were lost .... maybe when creating the second swan, I will still be able to mount the video .. ..

You will need

1: Wire d 5 mm

2: 5L plastic bottle....square shape

3: metal mesh

Using ... in my case ... a screwdriver ..... we drill a hole for the wire in the lid ... We lay the bottle wide sideways on the work surface, and cut off the top ... Because of the loss of files, I can’t show it figuratively, but the photo shows how the side of the bottle is cut off and I can’t show ... that the end of the wire rests on the bottom .... We fill it with gypsum .... I made the gypsum mass liquid, it dries up to 5 days, but it reduces the consumption of building material ...

Next ... I worked with a KNAUF brand finishing putty .... we knead a portion of the mixture in composition similar to a very thick porridge .... if you are afraid that your mixture will dry quickly, before diluting the gypsum with water .... do this .... (dissolve a small pack of citric acid in one and a half liters of water ....) and before pouring the amount of water you need, add a little acidic solution to the water and knead the mixture ..... Put the mass on the oilcloth along the length of the bottle .. ... we put our future swan on a plaster cake ... lightly press down and lift the excess from the sides up the bottle .. in principle, as already seen in the photo ...

The thing is behind the wings ..... cut off a piece of canvas from the grid .. about 12 cells in length and 3 cells in width .... apply to the sides of the swan ... at a slight angle ... near the tail, the lower part of the wing should be raised .... coat with gypsum and while the wings dry a little ... move on to the neck ..... smear the gypsum all over the neck ... with smudges ... moisten my hands, place the gypsum mass on the neck .... the first half of the photo. ... and then we wrap it with plaster ... tightly and controlling the mass ... so that there is approximately the same thickness everywhere .. the second half of the photo

Under the mass of gypsum, the wire slightly swayed to the side .... I fixed it on both sides .... after drying, it will no longer stagger to the sides, but will stand exactly.

Let's move on to the formation of the neck ..... lightly go over the swan's neck with a brush soaked in water ... since it is completely dry with us .. this will provide easier fastening of the new layer ... And as in the photo we transform the property of the swan .... When reach the head, leave a place for the beak and sculpt the shape of the head .... after the shape is ready .... fix a small piece of bandage on it .... so the mass will not crawl anywhere

We give shape to the wings ..... look at the photo

Because of the bandages it is not visible ... but in the place where the swan's wing was raised near the tail ... we sculpt the fourth feather, so to speak

Tail .... a piece of mesh cloth .. bend a little ... depending on how you want the tail to lie or stand .... fix it with a mass of gypsum .... by the way, I advise you to cook a lot .... let more often ... but it happens that the product needs to dry out a little and the rest of the mass has nowhere to go (

As the tail at the base dried up a little ... we are preparing, so to speak, the foundation for the following work .. we put a little gypsum on the top of the tail ... photo ...... and while the mass dries up there, we move on to the wings ... look at the photo ... .and then with such bloopers we form waves on the upper part of the wing .... sometimes I wetted my hands with water so that they would slide along the mass

Result

So ... to fix the mass on the tail and wings, we apply bandages with flaps .... Photo

We form the back ..... laying out a mass of gypsum rounding it ... photo ..... If you think that in one place or another the gypsum mass is floating, apply bandages))) .....

Let's put the layers on the tail ... photo ... By the way, on the tail, after each layer of gypsum, I sculpted a bandage)

And we move on to those parts where we have bandages applied .. we need to hide them .... in this case, we need the mass of the consistency of sour cream ... and carefully lay and smooth the layers with a brush ... photo

In every city, for sure, there are a huge variety of souvenir shops. Mind-blowing showcases, assortment, furnishings - everything disposes buyers to this place. Still, any trip was not accompanied by admiration and the desire to acquire something. How can you resist when a fairy tale beckons the buyer to itself. Only when you pick up the price tag, feelings become vague. Average wages do not allow ordinary people to buy beautiful souvenirs from the store. Indeed, the price is directly proportional to the appearance of things. Who needs an ugly souvenir. But I don't want to waste a quarter of my salary on a magnificent figurine. Fortunately, there is a good alternative - do-it-yourself gypsum crafts that will become the property of every home. Who knows better than we do what we want? None. Why, then, do not do what you want yourself. Especially if it is an easy, pleasant and useful activity.

DIY gypsum heart

The question remains, what kind of craft to do with your own hands from this material. In addition, you want not just a beautiful thing, but something special, symbolic, associated with an important person or event. For such a situation, the heart becomes very relevant. It symbolizes love - the most real and warm feelings. Such a craft as a gypsum heart will undoubtedly please your soulmate, it will become a symbol of relationships.

How to make such beauty? The first and, perhaps, the most important point is the gypsum mortar. It must be of high quality, otherwise the hearts will not be able to maintain a good appearance, and simply fall apart. There should not be any equal proportions during the preparation of the solution. Pour the powder into a separate bowl. Then slowly add water. Quite a bit. The slightest bust - and you have to add plaster. During the process, the solution must be stirred well to prevent the formation of lumps. They have an extremely bad effect on the structure of the product and can cause its fragility. After making sure that there are no lumps, you can safely proceed to the second stage - the search for molds. Often this is not difficult. Grocery and pastry shops, supermarkets are full of different types of molds. It is necessary to focus special attention on the mechanical resistance of the mold. The rule of the golden mean applies here. The mold should not be too hard or too soft. In the first case, it will not be possible to pull out the heart, and in the second case, the shell will get wet.

And that the hearts were interesting and special, they can be decorated and supplemented with various details. Absolutely any little things from home can become such accessories: buttons, pebbles, coins, colored glass, shells, small chains, rivets, paper clips .... Only fantasy can limit the decoration of hearts.

So, all components are ready to go. We take a mold and gradually fill it with a solution. It should be evenly distributed over the surface.

If bubbles appear on the surface, then the gypsum is of poor quality. But the air in this situation will not bring much harm. When the mixture hardens slightly, you can throw decorating elements into it.

It is with this consistency that glass, shells, coins, etc. will not sink in plaster. After all, we need all the details to be visible, and not to float somewhere. When the material has completely hardened, you can get the craft out of the mold. It is best to do this by folding the edges.

The procedure requires accuracy and does not take much time. The result turns out to be quite interesting.

If the surface of the mold had any irregularities, lines, etc., then the plaster craft will have an unusual texture.

Of course, if you wish, you can always modify the product. Hand sanding, additional painting will help in this matter.

What crafts from gypsum can you do with your own hands yet? Masks. Often they are needed for parties or children's parties.

Well, let's transgress. First you need to make a list of purchases needed to create masks:

  1. A plastered gauze bandage that will need to be cut into several pieces of different shapes;
  2. If there is none, then you can use ordinary gypsum;
  3. A jar of vaseline;
  4. Textile;
  5. plastic containers;
  6. Brushes or sticks for mixing the solution;
  7. Acrylic paints for further post-production of the mask;
  8. PVA glue or white primer

So, apply a good layer of Vaseline to the face of the person who will be wearing the mask. Make sure that the eyebrows and hairlines are smudged the best. This will make it much easier to remove the mask in the future.

Mix water with plaster. The rule of the golden mean also applies to this situation. The resulting solution should be less thick than for plaster hearts.

In the manufacture of masks, a plastered gauze bandage has advantages. Cut it into the necessary pieces that will repeat the shape of the face. Then dip them into the solution. Unlike ordinary gauze, plastered gauze will instantly grab the plaster.

Be especially careful around the eyes. Nobody wants accidents. There should be more plaster on the bridge of the nose and temples. This provides a better hold.

Carefully remove the mask from your face: it is fragile. After that, you need to modify some places on it.

In order for the mask to be durable, it is necessary to apply several more layers of plaster over the entire surface. The brush will help smooth out the bumps.

The next step is the process of baking the mask. It is enough to preheat the oven to 150 degrees and place the product there for 30 minutes. After baking, you need to leave the mask overnight in a dry, cool place. Let it go. When all the material hardens and gets stronger, you can proceed to the next step: applying PVA glue (or a white primer).

Now comes the most creative part of the work - drawing. Find a beautiful picture on the Internet. Then start fading it out on the mask.

Using a pencil, you need to make a sketch, which will later be painted with paints. If you want to further decorate the mask, you can use sparkles.

The final step is fastening. You can use wire with cardboard or hanger detail, whichever is more convenient for you.

Gypsum leaves are a great decorative element

For lovers of autumn, there is a great way to decorate the house, to bring a certain weather mood.

You will need these things:

  1. Tanks for solution and water
  2. Hard brush set
  3. Thin rope or similar material
  4. Leaves (maple, chestnut…)
  5. Wax paper

A live leaf should be placed on wax paper. Then we process it with a brush and gypsum mortar. When everything hardens, just hang the resulting leaves on a rope.

Pretty creative decor. If desired, each leaf can be decorated.

And finally - plaster figures:

Instruction

Prepare the form in which you will fill the material. You can buy a ready-made craft kit, which will already have plastic molds. Silicone molds for baking and even containers for sand cakes are also suitable for these purposes. You can also cut off the bottom of any hollow plastic or rubber toy. To make it easier to get a plaster figure, grease the mold with any vegetable oil.

Pour gypsum powder into a glass jar or jar. Add the required amount of water - according to the instructions on the package. The consistency should be like sour cream. Stir the mass so that no lumps remain in it.

Pour the plaster into the prepared mold. Level the surface with a spatula or knife. Leave the mass to dry for 30-50 minutes. If you are making a magnet, after 15-20 minutes, press a magnetic plate into the surface of the plaster. In the craft that you plan to hang, insert a loop of fishing line.

Make sure the cast is really dry before removing the figurine. Tap on it with a pencil - the sound should be sonorous.

The shape of the finished craft can be changed. With the help of sculptures of different sizes, you can make a carving on a plaster craft. First, draw the lines of the pattern on the sketch of the figurine. Then, focusing on this sketch, mark the craft with a simple pencil. Cut the plaster in small pieces, layer by layer, to achieve the desired effect. Use only sharply sharpened tools to ensure that the material is cut evenly without chipping.

If you want to make a multi-colored figurine, paint the plaster with acrylic paints. Look for the label "for porous surfaces" on the acrylic packaging. You can apply paint with a foam sponge (for painting large areas) or a synthetic brush (for detailed work).

Approaching creatively to spend your leisure time and decorate your home, pay attention to such a simple and affordable material as gypsum. From it you can do crafts with children and quite serious work for decorating the room.

Gypsum photo frame

To make a frame, you need a transparent plastic lid from a cake or other disposable container, in which the middle is smooth and the edges are embossed. It should be the size you want the frame to be. Examine the form carefully. If there are any dents on it, straighten them out. Otherwise, all this will be printed on the finished product.

Pour water into a deep bowl and gradually pour dry gypsum into it. Mix thoroughly with a tablespoon or fork. She can also break the resulting lumps. The mass should be homogeneous, similar to liquid sour cream.

If you dilute gypsum with warm water, in which a pinch of salt is dissolved, it will set faster.

Pour the dissolved gypsum into the mold with a layer of a little more than 1 cm. Shake the container slightly or tap it on the table. Then the liquid mass will fill the entire relief, and air bubbles will come out. Lay a layer of gauze or bandage over the entire surface. This reinforcement will make the finished product more durable. Immediately pour another couple of centimeters of plaster into the mold.

If you want to make a large frame, you need to make a "sample" to lighten the weight of the plaster product. Step back from the edges of the slightly hardened craft by 3-4 cm and scrape the entire middle of the frame with a spoon to a layer of gauze.

Make a loop from a piece of stainless wire so that the finished frame can be hung on the wall. If there is no wire, bend the mount from a large paper clip. When the craft hardens a little, insert the loop into place perpendicular to the plane. Give the final shape to the fastener after the workpiece has completely solidified.

Leave the frame to dry at room temperature. Touch it periodically. While the plaster is curing, the workpiece will be very warm to the touch. When it has cooled, after about a couple of hours, remove it from the mold and place it on a flat surface for final hardening.

Gypsum is a malleable material for processing. With a sharp knife, cut off unnecessary influxes from the finished craft, if any. Sand down any irregularities with fine-grained sandpaper. Just be sure to cover your nose and mouth so as not to inhale plaster dust.

Prime the plaster frame with impregnation for porous surfaces. After it dries, you can decorate your product with acrylic paints. They do not require fixing varnish. Varnish the reverse side of the craft. In the middle of the frame, place a photo or picture that fits the size. You can make a printout on a computer according to the specified parameters.

Sculpture from a child's toy

Volumetric figures, which are obtained by casting, children will be happy to color. Be patient right now. A large blank for a toy will dry out for several days. Therefore, it is better to do several at once.

Use a sharp knife to cut the bottom of a rubber children's toy. Dilute the plaster and pour it into the resulting mold. Shake it so that the mass penetrates into all the corners and curls of the figure. Leave your craft to dry for several hours. Then, bending the rubber from the plaster, remove the cast sculpture. Pour a fresh portion of gypsum into the mold, and leave the toy to dry for another three days. Then it can be painted.

Gypsum products are able to revive any interior, give it individuality. Especially if they are not made at the factory, but on their own - according to their own sketch. The technology of their creation is not so complicated.

There are two principles of action in the independent manufacture of gypsum products. The first is the fill. The option is time-consuming, requiring the creation of a prototype model (made of wood, plasticine, clay) and a mold for pouring, but allows you to create beautiful three-dimensional figures. The second way is plaster carving. It is more suitable for creating decorative flat ornaments. Of the tools, you only need a sketch drawing, an awl and a good knife or scalpel.

As a "model" for creating a mold for casting with plaster, you can use a ready-made product you like (for example, a figurine). It is carefully lubricated with petroleum jelly or silicone grease and laid on a flat surface (laid or otherwise protected), a wooden or steel frame is made around it, which is also lubricated so that the future form does not stick. Then, a gypsum solution of thick sour cream consistency is poured into the frame, taking into account that the model can be removed from the mold after drying.

If the model for creating the form was made independently, it must be durable, dried, varnished.

When the solution hardens, the model is taken out. The future form is thoroughly dried, defects are neutralized (for example, pits from air bubbles) using the same gypsum mortar, varnished from the inside. After the varnish has dried, the mold is ready to be filled with plaster to create the final product, but you must remember to clean and lubricate it before each new pour. Figures of complex shape are most often assembled from several parts, cast separately.

It is most convenient to fill the form in two stages: first - a thin layer that fills all the small cavities, then - the bulk. If the product is large, it will be useful to strengthen it with reinforcement. The finished figure lends itself perfectly to coloring. For final processing, it is desirable to cover it with a layer of wax or varnish.

Relief plates, ornaments, decorative inserts are more conveniently made by carving on plaster.

To create a sketch of the future ornament, you will need thick drawing paper (if the elements are repeated, it will be convenient to fold it several times). The contours of the future pattern are drawn on it and punctures are made along the line at some distance from each other with an awl or a needle. On a flat protected surface, a frame of the desired size (about 3 cm high) is installed.

Gypsum is poured in two stages. The first layer, which fills the mold by two thirds, is prepared in the ratio of 2 parts of gypsum to 3 parts of water. Pour it (without stirring) when it acquires the consistency of sour cream. The second layer is prepared in the same proportion, but kneaded very carefully. Pour the upper part 10 minutes after the first, wiping the hardened surface with a damp cloth.

After 10-15 minutes, removing the interfering rails, you can transfer the pattern to the surface of the plaster. To do this, a sheet with punctures is evenly laid on a gypsum blank and sprinkled with dry pigment (waking up through the holes, it forms a dotted pattern). With a scalpel or a knife, a cut is carefully made on the plaster, parallel to the pattern (with an indent of 2-3 mm towards the “background”), then the layers of the background are carefully removed with the same knife so that the ornament protrudes.

Gypsum is plastic and environmentally friendly, so fakes from it are increasingly becoming fashionable among needleworkers.

The softness and flexibility of the material allow you to make realistic figures, cut out small details and patterns, which makes gypsum crafts great decorations for an apartment, garden, and vegetable garden.

Gypsum crafts attract with their simplicity and accessibility, and master classes in such creativity can be shown to young children.

Moreover, in the process, the child improves the skills of working with bulk materials, repeats or studies colors, develops fine motor skills.

Gypsum variety

Hardened gypsum is strong and hard, so crafts made from it are practical and functional. So, gypsum vases, planters, drawers, flower pots are popular.

It is easy to make garden decorations out of plaster with your own hands, such as figurines of gnomes, mushrooms, flamingos, hares, artificial flowers, decorative hatches.

Step 1 - Turn on the fantasy

There are a lot of options for plaster crafts for a garden, kitchen garden or home interior, so you need to focus on a specific area.

For example, if you have a pond, then decorate it with a frog with an arrow in its mouth, a bump can be supplemented with a miniature window and a gnome, and children and grandchildren will be delighted by their favorite fairy-tale characters hidden among flower beds and garden tools.

Step 2 - Choose a Form

If your choice fell on standard swans or gnomes, then any suitable shape, plastic, wood, metal or silicone, can be purchased at the store. For economical or original craftsmen, there is an opportunity to make the base with their own hands.

To do this, it is necessary to cut out a certain texture from the listed materials or make a mold from gypsum: dilute the solution in a container, lower the object that needs a copy into it, let the gypsum harden and repeat the procedure for the other side of the original figure.

The resulting halves are varnished, glued together and later used for the next pouring of the solution.

True, it is better to use elastic silicone molds that do not require lubrication and do not damage the fake during model separation.

You can make a silicone base yourself in the same way as gypsum.

Step 3 - Prepare the solution

All that is useful for needlework is gypsum bought at a pharmacy, ordinary water, a container for diluting it and a form for casting a figure.

To dilute gypsum for crafts, powder is poured into a medium-sized basin or large bowl, poured with water and stirred. There are no special proportions, but you need to focus on the consistency of liquid sour cream.

If your figure is conceived as one-color, then when making a solution, you can add paint to the water and only then knead the gypsum.

The amount of gypsum must be thought out in advance, as it hardens quickly, and if there is a shortage of material, it will be impossible to make a new batch in time. It is better to dilute more solution and immediately put it into action.

Note!

Step 4 - Decorate the craft

An ordinary gray figurine will not decorate your garden, so it is better to paint it thoroughly. You can look for inspiration and ideas among photos of plaster crafts.

Before applying paint, the product is primed with wood glue or PVA, and then varnished to protect it from rain, wind, snow, sunlight and other external influences.

Step 5 - Decide on a location

You can install the figure of a stork or a cow along the garden path or on the sides of the gazebo, the main thing is that they fit well into the general atmosphere.

As a warm-up, you can implement the following idea: make a shape in the form of a large sole, a footprint, or purchase a similar one in a store, cast several dozen of these crafts and lay paths in a garden or vegetable garden with them.

When arranging the figures in the backyard, you should avoid their excessive accumulation and be guided by your own taste.

However, it is better to place gnomes and flamingos in open areas, attach animals in bushes or flowers, and identify large figures - houses, fountains, flowerpots - in the middle of flower beds or near the house.

Note!

Creating with plaster is fun, easy, and most importantly, safe. All this makes this type of needlework interesting and exciting for children and adults.
