Bearing and enclosing structures
updated version of SNiP 3.03.01-87 - current status

Requirements for surface quality and appearance of monolithic concrete and reinforced concrete structures

To assess the quality of the surface of monolithic concrete and reinforced concrete structures, four classes are used, determined by the maximum tolerances for straightness and local irregularities given in Table X.1. The classes apply to floors, walls, columns, foundations and other structures with straight surfaces. The main purpose of concrete surfaces is given in Table X.2. The concrete surface class of monolithic structures and the quality of concrete surfaces with special requirements for appearance should be specified in the project documentation. In unspecified cases, the surface class is accepted as A6 or A7 (depending on the purpose).

Table X.1. Annex X. SP 70.13330.2012

Concrete surface classes

Concrete surface class

Straightness tolerances for measured distances, mm

local irregularities (0.1 m)

Note. Straightness tolerances are applied subject to the tolerances for the thickness of the protective layer and for the dimensions of the sections (thicknesses) of the elements.

Table X.2. Annex X. SP 70.13330.2012

The main purpose of concrete surfaces of monolithic structures

Concrete surface class

The main purpose of structural surfaces

The front surface of walls, columns and the lower surface of floors with increased requirements for appearance. Surface for improved painting without putty

The front surface of the walls, columns and the lower surface of the ceilings, prepared for finishing (pasting with wallpaper, cladding)

The front surface of walls, columns, the lower surface of ceilings without special requirements for surface quality. Unfinished or plain painted surface

Minimum requirements for the quality of the concrete surface. Plastered and concealed surfaces

The project documentation should specify additional requirements for concrete surfaces that are constantly exposed to moving water or other aggressive influences.

Requirements for curved curved surfaces should be specified in the design documentation separately.

On concrete surfaces are not allowed:

  • areas of uncompacted concrete;
  • grease stains and rust stains (except for class A7 surfaces);
  • exposure of reinforcement, except for working outlets of reinforcement and mounting fasteners of the formwork;
  • exposure of steel embedded products without anti-corrosion treatment;
  • cracks with an opening width specified by the design organization (recommended value is 0.1 mm for structures without protection from atmospheric precipitation, 0.2 mm - indoors);
  • sinks, chipped concrete ribs for surface class:
    • A3 - shells with a diameter of more than 4 mm, a depth of more than 2 mm, chips of a rib 5 mm deep, a total length of more than 50 mm per 1 m of the rib;
    • A4 - shells with a diameter of more than 10 mm, a depth of more than 2 mm, chips of a rib 5 m deep, a total length of more than 50 mm per 1 m of the rib;
    • A6 - shells with a diameter of more than 15 mm, a depth of more than 5 mm, chips of a rib 10 mm deep, a total length of more than 100 mm per 1 m of the rib;
    • A7 - shells with a diameter of more than 20 mm and chipped ribs with a depth of more than 20 mm, the length of the chips is not regulated.

Local irregularities (beads, protrusions or depressions), the dimensions of which exceed the tolerances for surface classes according to Table C.1 at a measured distance of 0.1 m. For surfaces of class A3, nodules and protrusions are not allowed.

On concrete surfaces are allowed:

  • for wall structures - holes for tie rods with plastic protective tubes of the tie left in them, holes for anchors (sealing of holes should be specified in the project documentation or PPR separately);
  • imprints of boards and formwork elements;
  • exposure of reinforcing clamps;
  • for the lower surface of the floors - imprints of boards and deck elements, fastening elements of plastic structures, electrical wiring, etc.

To meet the requirements for concrete surfaces of classes A3 and A4, grinding of local protrusions and grouting of local depressions is recommended to achieve the required performance.

This set of rules was developed in order to improve the quality of construction and installation works, the durability and reliability of buildings and structures, as well as the level of safety of people at the construction site, the safety of material assets in accordance with N 384-FZ of December 30, 2009 "Technical Regulations on safety of buildings and structures", increasing the level of harmonization of regulatory requirements with European and international regulatory documents; application of uniform methods for determining operational characteristics and evaluation methods.

3.5 Data on the production of construction and installation works should be entered daily in the work logs for the installation of building structures (), welding (), anti-corrosion protection of welded joints (), monolithic field joints and assemblies (), performing field connections on bolts with controlled tension ( ), a journal of concrete works (), and also fix their position on the geodetic executive schemes during the installation of structures. The quality of construction and installation works must be ensured by the current control of the technological processes of preparatory and main works, as well as during the acceptance of works. According to the results of the current control of technological processes, certificates of examination of hidden works are drawn up.

3.6 Structures, products and materials used in the construction of concrete, reinforced concrete, steel, wood and stone structures must meet the requirements of the relevant standards, codes of practice and working drawings.

3.7 Transportation and temporary storage of structures (products) in the installation area should be carried out in accordance with the requirements of state standards for these structures (products), and for non-standardized structures (products), the following requirements must be observed:

Structures should, as a rule, be in a position corresponding to the design (beams, trusses, slabs, wall panels, etc.), and if this condition cannot be met, in a position convenient for transportation and transfer to installation (columns, flights of stairs etc.) provided that their strength is ensured;

Structures should be based on inventory linings and gaskets of rectangular section, located in the places indicated in the project; the thickness of the gaskets must be at least 30 mm and at least 20 mm higher than the height of the sling loops and other protruding parts of the structures; in case of multi-tiered loading and storage of the same type of structures, linings and gaskets should be located on the same vertical along the line of lifting devices (loops, holes) or in other places indicated in the working drawings;
