Flat water trap made of plastic for a shower cabin. The right choice and installation of a drain for a shower cabin is the key to its reliable operation. Types of drains for low pallets

A siphon is an indispensable component of any shower tray. After all, its role is to create a hydraulic seal in the process of draining water. Thus, the smell of sewerage does not penetrate into your shower cabin. Choosing a siphon for a shower should be correct. Our today's material will be devoted to the topic of species, as well as the features of the choice of this element of plumbing.

  • 1 Types and features
  • 2 Nuances of choice

Types and features

The market for shower cabins is more than diverse. Therefore, pallets are also sufficient when choosing. They can have a different shape, volume, height. Do not forget that in different pallets, drain holes can be located in different places, which is why siphons must have certain design features in certain cases.

As a rule, a siphon for a shower tray includes two structural elements - an overflow and a drain. Overflows are not always provided, and the drain is usually made in the form of a curved pipe, where you can adjust the height and length.

Now, among the wide range of sanitary products on the market, you can find various siphons for shower trays - conventional, automatic, as well as with the click clack function.

  1. Everyone met ordinary designs. The principle of their operation is that when the plug closes, water begins to accumulate in the cabin pan. It is worth opening the plug, as the water immediately begins to leave. These are outdated models that are used less and less.
  2. Automatic models have become a replacement for standard solutions. They have a special handle, turning which, the drain opens and closes. That is, the cork is absent as such, exactly, like a hydraulic seal.
  3. Click clack systems are the most advanced. Their peculiarity lies in the fact that a person opens and closes the drain by pressing the corresponding button with his foot. Press once - the drain closes, press again - it opens. As a result, you do not have to bend down in order to collect or drain water from the pan.

Remember that you should choose a shower siphon based on the height of the drain, since it is mounted under the tray. From this we can draw a completely logical conclusion - it is better to give preference to low models, thanks to which your pallet can be at a minimum height from the floor surface in the bathroom. Usually siphons have a height of 8-20 centimeters.

According to the type of construction, three main types of siphons can be distinguished.

  1. Bottle. The name comes from the shape of the product, resembling a bottle. These are the most common designs, the shape of which makes it possible to keep water inside the siphon, thereby keeping gases from the sewer outside the bathroom.
  2. Pipe. Such a siphon, as a rule, has the shape of the letter S or U. It has not received other distinctive features.
  3. Corrugated. The peculiarity of this solution is that it can be used in those pallets where other siphons did not fit or did not fit.

Nuances of choice

In order for a good siphon for a shower cabin to function in your home, you must be able to choose it correctly. To do this, you need to know certain nuances.

  1. The first step is to determine the diameter of the drain hole your pallet has. Accepted European standards provide for the possibility of using holes with diameters of 90, 62 or 52 mm. Therefore, the siphon for the shower tray must be selected based on these indicators. Measure the hole beforehand in order to choose the best siphon option. But usually they already come with shower cabins.
  2. The throughput of modern siphons can be different. It is determined from the calculation of the water layer located above the drain hole. For the system to function normally, with a diameter of 62 or 52 millimeters, the thickness of the water layer should be no more than 12 centimeters. If the drain diameter is 90 millimeters, then the figure is 15 centimeters.
  3. Sometimes people have to dismantle the shower cabin to clean the element. In fact, this could have been avoided. So that this situation does not happen to you, we recommend that you pay attention to the design of the system. Certain models are self-cleaning, others have a mesh in their design that collects small debris and does not allow the drain to clog. According to European norms and standards, drain holes with a diameter of 62 and 52 mm must necessarily provide access to pipes, a siphon in order to clean and inspect them if necessary. If we talk about holes with a diameter of 90 millimeters, then the cleaning of the siphon and sewers can be done using the intake hole.
  4. Never use compressed air when cleaning pipes. The consequences may be depressurization of connections, the formation of leaks.

As you can see, such a seemingly inconspicuous element as a shower siphon plays a huge role in the effective fulfillment of its tasks of a shower cabin, a pallet. Therefore, try to initially choose high-quality systems, purchase cabins from well-known, trusted manufacturers. Like the shower trays themselves, the siphons offered in the kit fully comply with strict European standards.

By giving preference to cheap solutions, you run the risk of constantly having to clean, and maybe even replace the siphons in your shower tray.

Please note, despite the presence of a self-cleaning element of the drain system, or a built-in mesh, the use of overhead meshes for sinks, bathtubs and trays is highly recommended. They cost a penny, but they prevent debris from entering the system, especially hair that can quickly, seriously clog, stop the normal operation of the drain.

When choosing a siphon for a shower cabin or bathtub, it is necessary to take into account the parameters of the tray (bathtub), the mounting hole, the length of the overflow system, the length of the corrugation, the supply of additional connections (condensate outlet from the steam generator, drain from the hydromassage system) and the siphon itself can be either with a valve (button ) or flowing. If you know the brand of the product, you can choose an original siphon or an analogue according to all characteristics! Contact our specialists and we will definitely help you!

In this section of the site, we offer our customers a complete set of drain plumbing equipment for shower cabins. Here you can choose the optimal siphon model, taking into account all the key parameters of the shower system and the characteristics of the room, as well as consult with experts on the choice of product, its characteristics, replacement and daily care.

The siphon plays an important role in ensuring cleanliness and hygiene in the shower room, since it is this hydraulic device that drains the used water and reliably protects against odors from sewage. Siphons for shower cabins have their own structural and functional differences from other types of siphons (for example, kitchen or bathroom). This is due to the peculiarities of the installation and operation of the entire system, of which they are an integral part.

With all the external diversity, shower siphons are divided into three main types in shape: bottle, pipe and corrugated. Each of these types has its pros and cons associated with temperature stability, ease of installation, ease of cleaning and maintenance, etc. Some of them are ideal for high pallets - these are, as a rule, siphons with a so-called overflow. Others are more compact, easy to mount in low pallets and can be installed in tight spaces.

Structurally, today the most popular are automatic siphons, when water is drained by turning a special handle, as well as very convenient and practical devices with a system controlled by a “light movement of the foot”

When purchasing a new siphon for your shower cabin, do not forget the following important indicators:

  • The size (diameter) of the drain hole in the pan and its location. Please note that even the most reliable gasket will not protect against leaks if the size of the siphon is chosen incorrectly, in which case only minimal deviations in the diameter of the holes are allowed.
  • Installation height and design of the shower tray. Here, of course, the distance between the floor and the bottom of the pallet, and its capacity, and the required length of the drains for draining water into the sewer system, and the angle of inclination during installation to avoid stagnation in the pipes play a role.
  • siphon capacity. This factor directly depends on the type of shower cabin and its equipment. For example, a rain shower system installed in a shower stall requires a higher drain capacity, while a standard, medium siphon is suitable for a regular shower.

For ease of use and maintenance, siphons can be equipped with an automatic cleaning system or have a special mesh that traps small debris. This helps prevent blockages, makes cleaning easier and significantly extends the life of the drains.

You can buy a siphon for a shower cabin, sink, bathtub from us, and we can repair, replace or install a new siphon both on our own, clearly following the instructions and descriptions, and at an affordable price by the masters of our service center.

In our store you can buy siphons for shower cabins, for all types of shower trays. Siphons can be bought from us for both high and low pallets, for low ones, as a rule, these are siphons either "click-clack" with shutoff valves, or flow-through! For high pallets, a drain-overflow system is used, it will be used as for pallets. and bathtubs, hydroboxes. Siphons may have an additional connection of a steam generator, a hydromassage system. The drain system is selected individually according to the marking of your products, or you need to measure the hole in the pallet and the distance of the bottom of the pallet to the floor so that it fits into the hollow part of the pallet. The corrugation of siphons can be of different lengths and diameters of the drain, the corrugation of economy class showers is usually 32 mm or 40 mm, for more expensive cabins 50 mm. Siphons are both plastic and metal, as a rule, they are all universal for steel baths, for cast iron, and, accordingly, acrylic. If you have a choice of siphon, it is better to be guided by a siphon with a water seal - this will save you from the smell from the riser. Come to our store and our experts will select the best siphon for you in terms of quality and price.

Now a shower cabin in an apartment is no longer a luxury, but is considered a necessary element. During its installation, your attention will definitely need to be paid to the organization of the drain for the shower. Drain for a shower cabin can have a wide range and therefore you first need to decide on your choice.

Standard shower drain

If you do not pay special attention to such an element, then you may have problems with draining or an unpleasant odor. For example, if there is an incorrectly selected drain for a shower cabin with a low tray, then it may soon need to be replaced.

Shower drain organization

At the moment, there are several ways to drain water from the shower. Depending on the design used, they can differ significantly:

  • If the shower is raised from the floor, then in this case the organization of the drain is not difficult. In the space between the floor and the shower room there will be a siphon and sewer pipes.

Pipes are hidden in the space under the pallet

It is important to know! If you are planning to install an ultra-low sump, then pay attention to the capacity of the siphon. Clogging problems in this case can also be greater.

  • If the water pan is not to be used, then special drains and channels may be required for drainage. The scope of work in this case may differ significantly.

Now you know what shower drains are. If we consider the ladder under the tile, then we can understand that this is a simple device with a water seal. The main part of it will be hidden in the screed. Thanks to this, the surface of your shower will not rise above the floor.

The main difference between a ladder and a channel is its shape. The channel will be elongated and long, and the drain will have a square or round drain grate. If you plan to organize a drain under the shower, then the easiest option is to install a siphon under the tray.

Water drainage in the shower with a drain

Choosing the Right Drain

The drain for the shower tray must necessarily be selected depending on the water flow. Thanks to this, you can get convenience during operation. The normal throughput is 50 liters per minute. This allows you to take a shower without limiting the power of the water flow. Also, before installation, you will need to disassemble the shower drain device.

All such devices come with a shutter, but ways to prevent odors from the sewer can be very different, and it all depends on the model:

  1. A water seal is the simplest option. Air from the sewer in this case will not enter your room due to the water plug that forms inside. You can also select a bottle water seal. Most often, such products are used in the kitchen, where it is necessary to be able to remove the lid at any time and clean it.

A water seal prevents water and odors from entering the room
  1. Dry lock. If you use a drain of this design, then in case of infrequent use of the shower, there may be a risk that the water plug may dry out.

It is important to know! If a warm floor is installed in your bathroom, then it is forbidden to use such a system, as the water in it will dry up.

  1. Recently, devices with a plug on the drain hole are beginning to gain considerable popularity. They are able to completely cover the pipe, and such a design will be called "click-clack".

To open the drain, simply press the button

The price of a drain with a plug is quite low. On average, it is 1200 rubles. To close the drain, you just need to press the button. To open the drain, you will need to perform a pivoting movement. Also, before installation, you will need to think about the need for an overflow device. If a lot of water is collected in the pan, then such a system will divert excess water into the sewer.

overflow device

Overflow will not greatly complicate the design. Outwardly, it will look like an additional hole, which will be located closer to the upper side of the pallet. All excess water in this case will be sent to the sewer. This feature will be useful if you forgot to turn off the water and it is drawn into the pan. When installing a shower with your own hands, do not forget about.

Installation and care of the drain

Installing the pallet and connecting it to the sewer is not difficult. The only feature is that you will need to ensure that the pallet is horizontal and observe two minimum gaps when connecting the sewer.

Installation Guide

Now it's time to learn how to make a shower drain. Installation of the drain begins with its fitting and marking on the floor. In the future, you will need to follow the following steps:

  • The siphon will be connected to the sewerage using a special sewer corrugation. Of course, if necessary, plastic pipes can also be used.
  • For ease of assembly at the bottom of the pallet from the wrong side, you will need to make a metal frame.

Mounting the frame on the bottom of the pallet

It is important to know! The height of the drain for the shower cabin should be such that after installing the siphon, the distance to the floor is 5-7 cm. This is necessary in order to provide a slope for draining the water.

  • Now you can connect the corrugation and siphon to the sewer. A plastic union nut must be used for connection. For reliability, all joints can be smeared with sealant.
  • Turn the pan sideways and insert a special mesh into the drain hole. It will ensure that debris does not get into the siphon.
  • From the inside, you need to connect a siphon. First, sealant must be applied to the part that will be in contact with the pallet. Then a rubber ring can be applied to it and after that it can be connected to the part installed on the front side of the pallet.

List of materials for drain connection

After that, the pallet can be turned over and installed in place. The legs are best done with adjustable height. If there is a bias, then it can be detected using a level.

The siphon is connected correctly

Siphon installation instructions may also allow for additional reinforcement. This is necessary if the frame of the pallet will sag. you can see what the interior looks like with a shower cabin.

Drain Care

It doesn't matter how well you did the installation. Over time, you will still need to repair the shower drain. Blockage is considered the main cause of failure. It is because of him that the impossibility of draining water, stagnation of water in the pan, as well as an unpleasant smell in the booth is formed.

Anyone can face this problem.

There are several ways to clean pipes in this case. If you do not know how to clean the shower drain, then remember that a lot will depend on how you connect it. If you do not use corrugation, but ordinary plastic pipes, then the following cleaning options can be distinguished:

  1. Mechanical. To do this, you can use a regular plunger or plumbing cable.

These tools will help you get rid of clogged pipes
  1. Various cleaning products. To clean the drain with their help, do not use aggressive substances, as they can simply corrode the plastic. It is best to give preference to helium products.
  2. If necessary, you can try to use folk remedies. To make the mixture, you need to take soda, vinegar and salt.

Ingredients for folk cleanser

To eliminate the unpleasant smell in the shower, the drain must work perfectly. In the case of connecting the drain through the corrugation, it will be more difficult to deal with the blockage. Sometimes you just need to disconnect the siphon and clean it separately.

findings

As you can see, installing a shower is not difficult, but special attention must be paid to the organization of the drain. To protect your cheap cabin from visible communications, you will need to organize a drain in the floor. Before choosing a drain system, you will need to take a responsible approach to its choice. We hope this information was useful and interesting.

Shower cabins today are used in the arrangement of both small-sized rooms and spacious bathrooms. One of the conditions for the flawless operation of sanitary equipment is not only the competent choice of model, but also the quality of its installation.

A correctly connected siphon for a shower cabin with a low tray is a guarantee of a reliable functioning of the drainage system.

The main function of the drain system is to receive waste water from the hole in the sump, and then direct it directly into the sewer pipe. The key element of the drainage system is the siphon, also referred to as the ladder.

The siphon for the shower tray is a curved pipe filled with liquid, the upper segment of which forms a water lock

The siphon will perform two tasks: it provides unhindered draining of dirty water and prevents the spread of an unpleasant odor from the sewer pipe.

The principle of a hydraulic seal, used in traditional siphons, prevents the penetration of air saturated with a large amount of harmful gases in the opposite direction.

Siphons are used everywhere when connecting household plumbing devices, with the exception of only those structures in which a water lock is already an integral part of them.

Types and options for drain devices

The siphon for the shower tray includes two main elements: a drain and an overflow. Overflows may not be installed on all models. They are mainly equipped with deep shower trays.

Plums are of several types:

  • Ordinary - equipped with plugs, when closed in manual mode, water begins to accumulate in the pan. Drainage holes in such devices direct wastewater directly into a rigid or corrugated flexible pipe, which can be equipped with a collapsible elbow. Conventional models are the most budgetary. But most masters consider them obsolete.
  • Automatic - equipped with a special handle, when turning which the drain is blocked. In such models, there is no plug in its traditional design, as well as a hydraulic seal. They are equipped with handles, through which it is convenient to control the operation of the plug.
  • Click clack systems are modern devices that allow you to close the drain by pressing a button located at the top of the device with your foot. The first press closes the drain, the second press opens it. The plug in such a siphon is located directly in the drain hole.

Modern advanced systems with the “click clack” function are convenient in that they allow you not to bend down in order to drain or draw water in the pan

The hole for the installation of a siphon for shower cabins with a low tray can be placed both at the edges of the sides and in the center of the bottom. By type of design, siphons for shower trays are of several types.

Pipe Models

Such drain structures are a segment curved in the shape of the letter "S" or "U". In the upper segment of the structure, a water seal is equipped, and in the lower part there is a hole for eliminating blockages.

The inlet end of such a pipe structure is screwed to the drain hole in the bottom, and the other end to the apartment sewer pipe.

A corrugated siphon is a type of drain device, where the role of a hydraulic seal is performed by a bend of a pipe made of polypropylene

The easily bendable pipe can be easily shaped into any shape by fixing it in the desired position with a plastic clamp. Due to this, corrugated siphons are often used to organize a drain from a shower cabin, even if the height of the structure and the space for its placement are limited.

The main advantage of such systems is the only connecting node located at the outlet of the sink. Thanks to this constructive solution, the likelihood of leakage is minimized.

The only disadvantage of corrugated mixers is the rapid contamination of the folds and sensitivity to too high and low temperatures. Compared to other types of siphons, corrugated structures are less reliable and durable.

Bottle siphons

Devices of this type got their name due to the fact that they have a rigid design that has the shape of a bottle. A pipe is inserted into the upper part of the structure, the end of which is attached to the drain outlet. The water drain hole is located on the side of the cylinder. Due to this, a water seal is formed in the cavity of the cylinder.

The sedimentation of garbage with its subsequent transportation to the sewerage system occurs in the cavity of the "bottle".

Bottle-type siphons are large in size and take up a lot of free space during installation, so they are used to connect shower cabins with high trays

If we compare bottle-type siphons with knee structures, they stand out favorably due to ease of installation. In addition, they are easier to disassemble and clean if necessary to eliminate blockages.

drain drains

A suitable option for arranging the drain of shower stalls is to use a special ladder. It is mounted in the hole of the pallet or the concrete base that performs its functions.

When using a drain ladder, the waste water through the grate enters the pipe located under the bottom of the structure and from there it is sent to the sewer

Drainage ladders are also convenient to use when arranging a full-fledged drainage of water from cabins devoid of traditional pallets. In this case, the plumbing element is poured into the screed. The height of the drains of elements of this type ranges from 80-200 mm.

Key points of a competent choice

The market for shower cabins and, consequently, the shower trays for them is more than diverse. They can have different heights, shapes and volumes. And the drain holes in these structures can be located in different places. Therefore, siphons for their connection must have certain design features.

Siphons for connecting to the sewer often come with a shower cabin. If the type of device offered by the manufacturer completely triples you, feel free to use it.

If you purchase a new model, keep in mind that you should choose a shower siphon based on the depth of the drain, since the structure is mounted directly under the bottom. Usually the height of the siphons varies between 15-20 cm. To simplify the installation process, preference should be given to low models.

Shower cabin designers are developing new models of siphons, trying to reduce the height of the devices. Thanks to this, it is possible to lower the height of the bottom of the pallet relative to the floor level, thereby making it easier for people to enter the cab.

By choosing compact low siphon models, you can place your shower tray at a minimum height from the floor level

When choosing a siphon, a number of nuances should be considered:

  • Drain hole diameter. According to European standards, the diameter of the drain holes for pallets can be 52 mm, 62 mm or 90 mm. The size of the structural elements of the siphon must correspond to these parameters.
  • The angle of the drain pipe. On average, it varies between 130-140°. But on sale there are models where the angle of rotation is 360 °.
  • siphon capacity. This indicator is determined from the calculation of the water layer collected above the drain hole. For holes with a diameter of 52 mm and 62 mm, the thickness of the water layer should not exceed 12 cm, and for draining D90 mm - up to 15 cm. The drain rate should be at least 20 l / min. There are devices with a high drain rate, reaching 30 l / min. They are marked "turbo drain".
  • The function of self-cleaning of the system or the ability to clean the elements without completely disassembling the drain structure.

When purchasing a siphon, try to choose high-quality systems. Otherwise, you will be faced with the need for frequent cleaning of the drain structure and even replacing a system that has quickly failed.

For pallets with a small drain hole, it is necessary to provide access to sewer outlets. It will be required in order to conduct an audit and clean the system in case of contamination.

Regardless of the type of design chosen, it is unacceptable to use compressed air when cleaning the drain system. The consequences of such actions can be depressurization of the connections and the occurrence of leaks.

Do-it-yourself siphon installation

The rate of waste water flow and, in principle, the ability to operate plumbing equipment directly depend on a competent drain installation. Installation work can be done by yourself. It is only necessary to follow the instructions and perform all operations efficiently.

Before installing a shower cabin, it is important to consider the organization of water flow. To do this, two points must be made:

  • At what distance from the sewer hole will the pallet be installed.
  • How to connect the structure for draining water.

The length of the pipe from the outlet to the sewer outlet should be minimal, and its slope should be 1-1.5 cm per meter of length

Installing the drain of the shower cabin is carried out after preparing the base for the installation of the pallet.

The procedure includes a number of main steps:

  • Determining and setting the angle for draining from the outlet in the pan to the entrance to the sewer. To do this, the structure is first laid upside down. Studs are included with each cab. They must be screwed into the required holes. At this stage, power mechanisms are prepared by installing them on limiters and clamps. From above they are put on pre-exposed studs.
  • Assembly and installation of the siphon. A diagram is usually attached to the design. When joining the elements, all gaskets should be placed in strict accordance with the attached diagram, clamping the joints to the stop.
  • Power frame adjustment. This procedure is performed, focusing on the building level. The frame is mounted, positioning it 2-3 cm higher than the lower part of the siphon will be installed.
  • Fixing the power structure. Using nuts of the appropriate size, tighten the connecting elements and fix the structure.
  • Installing the pallet in the desired position. The pallet is placed in such a way that the upper part of the siphon is 5-6 ° above the sewer tee. The total height of the pallet should be between 200-210 mm. The minimum height of the ladder can be 8 cm.
  • Cabin drain connection. A mesh is mounted in the drain hole, treated for reliable connection with a special sealant. Having inserted the drain cup into the hole of the pallet, a tee is connected by means of a screw connection.
  • Installation of a branch in a sewer pipe. The installation of the siphon elbow is performed in the direction of the entrance to the sewer. The connecting elements are fixed with a coupling and covered with a layer of sealing composition.
  • System health check. After a test run of water, all connecting nodes are checked. There should not be even a minimal leak anywhere.

In case of detection of poor flow or the formation of drops on the floor, the system will have to be disassembled and the problem fixed.

The assembly process of the siphon is clearly presented in the video:

Plumbing piping with overflow for a shower cabin is mounted according to the same principle as a conventional drain system. The only difference is that first, the release is fixed by means of a screw connection. And then the overflow pipe is connected to the drain tee, using a conical insulation.

The connecting assembly of the overflow hole of the pallet with the siphon tee should be carefully sealed and coated with sealant.

The result of the efforts of a well-executed installation and the right angle of inclination will be a perfectly functioning shower stall.

To prevent violations in the drain system, follow the simple rules for caring for the system. Do not pour water with debris and earth into the pan!

Regularly flush the system with products that prevent dirt deposits from settling on the inner walls!

Doing repairs in the bathroom and want to connect a shower cabin with your own hands? Agree, the comfort of taking water procedures, and the protection against accidental flooding of the bathroom largely depend on the quality of the installation and the serviceability of the drain equipment.

We will figure out how to choose the right drain for a shower cabin, what parameters to focus on when buying a device. We will also give a step-by-step technology for arranging a shower drain system.

Instructions for assembly and installation of equipment are accompanied by visual photographs for a better understanding of the process. The article is supplemented with videos about the nuances of installing shower drains.

In plumbing stores, they are presented mainly with a classic drainage scheme through a hole in the pan. Such a drain device is easy to install, reliable and does not require preliminary floor preparation.

In the shower rooms of saunas, public baths, more convenient drainage options are used. Water there goes into special holes (ladders) or channels recessed into the floor at the stage of laying tiles.

Shower siphons with tray

Cabin manufacturers often use exclusive engineering solutions on pallets that are difficult to attribute to any common category of siphons.

Most models can be divided according to two principles:

  • according to the mechanism of action;
  • by type of construction.

The features of their device should be understood in more detail.

Image gallery

Classification of siphons according to the mechanism of action

Differences in the principles of the mechanism of work divide the existing ones into 3 main groups.

First group are simple siphons. They are included in the package of most cheap shower cabins in the domestic market. The principle of operation of these siphons is simple: the drain hole is clogged from above with a cork, after which water begins to collect in the pan. When the plug is removed, the water goes into the drain.

The main advantage of a simple shower siphon is its low price, and the comfort of the user of the shower cabin takes second place.

The elementary design ensures the cheapness of these devices. Their operation is dangerous, because when opening / closing the hole, you can slip and injure yourself.

Second group- siphons with manual control. In this design, a control knob is displayed on the wall, when turned, the drain hole is adjusted.

This mechanism of action is especially convenient for people with disabilities who find it difficult to bend down to manually close the hole with a stopper.

Third group– click-clack system. In such siphons, the plug is permanently located above the drain hole and at the same time is the “open” / “closed” position switch.

The automatic opening of the drain in the Click-Clack device often happens accidentally when you press your foot, so you need to be careful when trampling in the shower

When you first press the stopper with your foot, it rises slightly, and the drain hole opens, and when you press it again, the stopper is fixed in the closed position and does not allow water to drain.

Structural classification of siphons

Depending on the engineering features of the hydraulic lock mechanism, siphons are divided into 3 types.

First view- bottle siphons. In apartments, they are everywhere installed on the sinks in the kitchen. This type of siphon got its name because of its elongated appearance. Debris settles on the "bottom" of the bottle, which is easy to unscrew and clean from dirt.

The water seal is provided by the internal arrangement of the siphon, which also prevents large objects from entering the side corrugated drainage.

The bottle design has gained popularity due to the ease of cleaning the inside of contamination and the ease of replacing the siphon in case of breakage.

The disadvantage of such a siphon is its bulkiness and length, therefore, to install it on a shower cabin, a large gap between the floor and the pallet is required.

Second view- classic pipe siphons. Among the systems for draining water from showers, the most common are siphons in the form of the letters U and S. The formation of a hydraulic seal occurs directly in the pipe bend.

Such siphons are characterized by reliability and durability, and their compact modifications are used in most budget showers.

The disadvantage of this type of siphon is the inconvenience of dismantling and cleaning, especially in conditions of limited space under the shower tray.

Third view- corrugated siphons. This type of siphon drain is an empty tube in the form of a corner, one end of which is attached to the opening of the pallet, and the other goes into a corrugated hose.

The siphon can be installed at any angle to the horizontal plane, which makes it convenient for non-standard drain placement options. This model is often used in showers with.

The corrugated siphon requires good fixation, and after the first descent of a large amount of water, it is necessary to make sure that the corrugation has not deviated

The water seal in corrugated siphons is manually formed in a place remote from the drain. To do this, the hose is bent in the shape of a U and fixed in this position below the level of the sump opening.

There are also exclusive versions of siphons that combine the features of several design options at once.

Arrangement of a drain for a shower cabin

When installing a shower stall, special attention should be paid to the construction of the drain. After all, how correctly it will be done depends on the service life of the cabin and its comfortable operation. So, an improperly connected drain can quickly leak or cause unpleasant odors in the bathroom.

Let's take a closer look at the stages of arranging a bathroom drain.

Stage #1. Shower channel installation

Installation of channel drainage in the bathroom takes place directly into the floor, with fixation from all sides with cement mortar. Before installing the channel, it is necessary to glue the grate with adhesive tape to protect the polished surface from damage.

Stretch film is also suitable for covering the surface of the grate. The main thing is that the protective coating is thin and protects the polished surface from damage.

If the outer surface of the channel is polished, then it is necessary to roughen it with sandpaper so that the cement mortar adheres better. After treatment, it is necessary to treat the surface with a degreasing solution.

The fixation of the channel drain to the floor must be rigid, because the human body weight will be transferred to the tray

Align the tray strictly horizontally using the side adjusters.

It is necessary to tighten the nuts strongly, because the adjusting mechanism will be filled with cement and it will not be possible to tighten the fastener later

Attach one end of the connecting hose to the channel branch pipe, and the other to the sewer pipe. Make sure the hose is fully inserted and firmly fixed.

If you suspect the possibility of water leakage, you must first treat the pipe with a thin layer of silicone.

To drain water, it is better to use a plastic pipe rather than a corrugated hose, because fat deposits accumulate in the recesses of the corrugations

The next step is to fill the space on the sides of the channel with cement, taking into account the thickness of the tiles that will lie on top.

Then put a tile on the cement, the top of which should be 1 mm above the level of the channel so that water does not accumulate at the grate. Tiles in the bathroom must be laid from the drain tray to ensure a smooth joint on all sides and the absence of sharp edges.

For water to drain, there must be a slope of the tile from the sides of the shower area to the drain at the rate of 1-1.5 cm in height per 1 m of floor length.

After laying the tile, it is necessary to clean the place of its junction with the edge of the grating of the channel and fill it with tile adhesive or sealant. After it dries, it is necessary to finally clean the space along the edges of the channel drain and remove the protective film from the grate. The drain is ready!

When installing a channel drain, the following nuances must be considered:

  1. The throughput of the channel should not be less than the water flow in the shower. The classic hot tub uses 10 liters per minute.
  2. The distance from the branch pipe of the drainage tray to the vertical sewer pipe must be minimal.
  3. If in doubt about the throughput of the drain system, you can check it. To do this, you need to fix the tray to the floor, attach it to the sewer pipe and apply water pressure to the tray.
  4. The diameter of the hose coming from the branch pipe should not be less than 40 mm, and its slope should not be less than 30 mm per 1 m.
  5. When installing a duct drain in the bathroom doors, it is recommended to choose a sectional grate to facilitate access to the siphon.

Following the instructions will allow you to install the channel drain in the shower stall quickly and efficiently. You should not be afraid of blockage in the drainage tray built into the floor, because its design provides for cleaning the system from the outside without the need to dismantle the tiles.

Stage #2. Installing a drain

The installation of the shower drain is carried out in the same way as the channel drain installation scheme described above. Cheap drainage drains are sold without fixing devices, so one nuance should be known when installing them.

If externally the drain device looks like a simple body with an internal mechanism and a discharge hose, then first you need to firmly fix it in the desired position.

To fix the height, you can put a brick, several tiles or other improvised material under the body.

It is impossible to fix the ladder with mounting foam, because later, when you press the ladder grate with your foot, it may fail

With the regulation of horizontal stability, the situation is more complicated. In the absence of fasteners, it will be necessary to control the correct location of the ladder body after laying the cement screed during its drying.

The general layout of the layers of the shower floor at is as follows.

The diagram shows a square drain with fixing elements. Clearing blockages in the drain is carried out after removing the grate and removing the internal elements.

The drain body is actually a hollow flask with a pipe, so after disassembling it, you can even clean the drain hose with a cable.

Stage #3. Installing the shower cabin siphon on the pallet

The process of installing a siphon is so varied that step-by-step tips for installing a particular shower stall drain can only be found in its installation instructions.

Below we will consider the installation of one of the simple types of siphon to understand the fundamental stages of this process. The general scheme of the device is shown in the figure.

The presented scheme of the S-shaped siphon is basic. Auxiliary mechanisms, nozzles and cleaning holes can be added to the design

The first step is to connect the neck of the drain pipe to the water seal. You need to take a drain pipe and put a conical elastic band on it.

When connecting a branch pipe to a water seal, it is not necessary to pre-embed the gasket deeply: it will press itself when the nut is tightened

Put a rubber gasket in the plug and screw it to the side outlet of the water seal. Not all siphons are equipped with such a plug, but this design is a priority when choosing a drain mechanism.

A water seal plug makes it easier to clean a clogged siphon from debris. In its absence, the siphon must be disconnected from the pallet to remove dirt.

Put a rubber gasket on the second outlet of the hydraulic seal, attach the neck to it and tighten the fixing nut.

It is not necessary to lubricate the edge of the neck with silicone. The main thing is to install it on the seal without skew to prevent water from flowing

It turns out a ready-made siphon, which must be attached on one side to the pallet, and the second to the drain corrugated hose.

When assembled, you can check the siphon for leaks by substituting the neck under a stream of water in the kitchen sink

Next, you should prepare the neck for mounting on the pallet. To seal the connection, it is necessary to put a special wide rubber gasket on the upper part of the neck. An elastic band is also placed on the inside of the pallet.

The pan gaskets at the top and bottom of the drain hole must be lubricated with a waterproof sealant. This will prevent leaks and prevent damage to the acrylic.

Then the neck is attached to the pan from below, and the upper part of the siphon with a drain hole and a fixing bolt is placed from above. The bolt is tightened with a screwdriver, and this completes the attachment of the siphon to the shower stall.

The fixing bolt must be made of stainless steel or brass, otherwise after 1-2 years it will rot and the siphon will need to be dismantled

The next step is to connect a corrugated hose to the siphon outlet and overflow hole (if any). It turns out a siphon ready for use.

Only high pallets are equipped with an overflow hole, so if there is no overflow, you do not need to buy a siphon with the corresponding hole.

It is advisable to carry out all the above procedures on an inverted pallet before installing the shower stall on the floor. And then the attached siphon will only need to be connected to the sewer pipe.

Secrets of the selection and installation of siphons

Before buying and installing a new shower, it is advisable to get acquainted with the advice of experts so that you do not have to exchange goods, change the design yourself or buy additional suitable parts.

  1. Before buying a siphon, it is necessary to measure the distance between the outlet of the tray and the floor so that the siphon body fits under the shower. Most often there are drain mechanisms with a size of 80-200 mm.
  2. The size of the drain hole of the pallet must correspond to the width of the siphon neck. Their standard sizes are 52, 62 and 90 mm.
  3. The lower level of the outgoing pipe of the siphon must be above the level of the sewer hole.
  4. In order to keep water flowing in low-level sumps with compact drains, priority should be given to filtering debris at the drain inlet.
  5. Installation and repair of a siphon for a shower tray:

Having considered the nuances of choosing siphons and their installation, you can safely go to the store to buy a shower stall. Now it is clear what equipment is suitable for your bathroom and how to operate it for a long time and without breakdowns.
