Protective film on the floor. Polyethylene film for the floor. Infrared film floor - what is it

Rearrangement of furniture, animals, shoes with heels are factors that can significantly worsen the aesthetic appearance of parquet or laminate. In addition, these types of floor coverings require special care and lack of moisture.

The unique protective film is a simple and convenient way to prevent dirt and damage to your flooring. Tightly adhering to the floor surface, the protective film becomes invisible and at the same time reliably protects your floors from mechanical and other influences.

Benefits of using protective film for flooring

- protects from influence of moisture, sand and dirt;
- prevents small scratches and damages;
- greatly simplifies the cleaning of the premises;
- simplicity and ease of use;
- savings on repairs - just replace the film (does not leave glue marks on the floor).

The security sticker is especially useful in places such as the floor surface under an office chair, the area at the front door and other vulnerable places. At the same time, you significantly save on polishing the floor, as the service life of the entire floor increases.

Using a damp cloth, wipe the floor surface from dirt and dust. Make sure the floor surface is clean and dry. Start gluing the sticker from one edge, then carefully smooth out from the center to the rest of the edges. Due to the elasticity of the film, installation is quite easy, without folds.

The standard size of a protective sticker is 1 * 1.2 m, however, it can be made to any size, including large areas. Thickness 200 microns, transparent.

Having decided to equip a decorative floor covering from laminated panels with their own hands, the master will have to study a lot of nuances associated with the installation of the floor from lamellas: laying technique, subtleties

Quantity Calculator

Processing connections, as well as decide on the question - do you need a film under the laminate or not? This question turns out to be a complete surprise for many, since it seems that for laying laminated panels, it is enough to correctly build the substrate, and then lay out the finishing material itself. However, in some cases, a film under the substrate is a necessity.

When it is required to lay the film under the substrate of the lamellas

Laying the film layer under the substrate of laminated panels should be carried out in the following cases:

  • If the installation of lamellas is carried out on a concrete base or a stone or cement screed, which leveled the surface of the concrete base;
  • You need a film under the laminate if the floor below is a room with a high humidity index (basement, kitchen room, sanitary unit). If you do not lay a protective film layer under the laminate under such conditions, the lamellas may become damp and deformed.

In these two cases, an ordinary polyethylene film is placed under the lamella substrate.

What kind of film to make the necessary vapor barrier layer under the lamellas

To carry out work on the vapor barrier device under the substrate of laminated panels, you can buy ordinary polyethylene material with a thickness of 0.2 mm. This thickness is quite enough to protect the lamellas from dampness and condensate, which can be released by the concrete base.

Instructions for laying film material

The film under the laminate substrate is extremely easy to install. However, before work, you definitely need to measure the height difference of the concrete base - if it is more than 2 millimeters, then you will need to level the base of the floors by equipping a cement screed on their surface or using special self-leveling mixtures.

Let's write down the stages of work that you have to perform:

  1. First, prepare the floor surface - remove the remnants of the old coating and, if necessary, level the base by arranging the screed;
  2. Thoroughly clean the surface of the base from debris and dust;
  3. Next, the surface of the floors will need to be primed, and allow the primer layer to dry completely;
  4. Lay out the film material perpendicular to the direction of laying the slats. The strips of film must overlap each other (photo), so that one strip overlaps the other strip at a distance of about 20-25 centimeters. Film strips should also go onto the walls: it is enough to lay the film 1.5-2 centimeters up the wall.

After the arrangement of the film layer, they begin laying out the substrate.

Attention! It should be remembered that the film does not replace the substrate, so it is important to lay out a layer of vapor barrier and equip the substrate before installing the laminate panels.

You can avoid using a film if you make a substrate on a plywood, wooden or linoleum base. Also, if you purchase a special insulating material of the Megaflex brand, you will not need to additionally line the film. Megaflex can be used as a substrate not only under the laminate, but also under the carpet.

Film floor heating

Underfloor heating and laminate film are a little different things. In the first case, it is more correct to say “warm film floors”, for the creation of which a special infrared film is used. The second concept implies the usual protective film layer under the lamellas, which acts as a vapor barrier between the concrete base, the substrate and the laminate panels. We talked about film vapor barrier in the previous sections, now let's find out in detail: what is an infrared film under a laminate.

Infrared film floor - what is it

This type of underfloor heating is simply called "infrared film", because it consists of a special type of film material capable of giving off heat to the surrounding space. This heat has the form of infrared radiation - hence the unusual name of the coating.

Infrared film (photo) appeared on the building materials market quite recently - no more than 3-4 years ago and is a subspecies of electric floor heating. The heating element of the coating is a film, which can be carbon or bimetallic.

The carbon variety of the material works by combining carbon elements that generate heat. These elements are located between two layers of mylar film layer and are parallel to each other.

The bimetallic type of material is a thin polyurethane film inside, which has a connection of two layers: an aluminum alloy layer with special additives and a copper alloy layer also with special additives.

Advantages of arranging a warm film floor under a laminated floor

The advantages of laying an infrared film floor under a laminate are obvious:

  1. It is quite possible to mount a warm film layer with your own hands, without resorting to the expensive services of specialists;
  2. Installation of the system does not require the arrangement of a screed, a protective substrate or an adhesive base for fasteners;
  3. You can regulate the heating temperature of the surface yourself and thereby significantly reduce energy costs.

The infrared film layer does not have any harmful or destructive effect on the lamellas and does not lead to their deformation.

Features of arranging a film underfloor heating under a laminate

To properly mount the IR floor system under the laminate, the following requirements must be met:

  1. The base must be free of debris and dust;
  2. All surface irregularities must be eliminated in advance;
  3. The first layer of heat-reflecting material is laid;
  4. Thermal film sheets are being laid;
  5. The thermostat is being installed.
  6. Electrical wires are insulated
  7. The temperature sensor is installed.

After installing the temperature sensor, the system is checked for operability, after which a layer of polyethylene is equipped and the layer is covered with a special protective material.

To date, there are many new products among floor coverings, one of the most popular is self-adhesive vinyl floor tiles. To find out why she owns a leading position, we suggest considering the features of self-adhesive vinyl tiles.

This material is suitable for floors in high traffic areas. It can be both a private apartment and a production workshop.

Self-adhesive types of tiles are easy to install, high tightness and high sound insulation. And the ability to retain heat well makes vinyl tile more in demand than its ceramic counterpart.

Now let's see what this material consists of.

Composition and form:

  • polyvinyl chloride (PVC) (base structure).
  • quartz sand;
  • plasticizers;
  • stabilizers;
  • resins;
  • fillers to increase inertness.

All components are thoroughly mixed and then pressed under high temperature. Due to the presence of quartz sand in the composition, this material is also called quartz vinyl tiles.

It should be noted that the finished product has several layers:

  1. polyurethane;
  2. transparent PVC layer;
  3. picture;
  4. polyvinyl chloride mixed with quartz sand and forming the basis of the product;
  5. self-adhesive film.

The layers are laid in a thickness of 1 to 4 mm. The form is usually observed either in the form of a square with an area of 300 or 600, or in the form of a parquet.

Division into classes

Depending on how actively PVC floor tiles will be used, it has the following classification.

  • 23-31. This is a decorative class with a very elegant appearance. Requires a careful attitude.
  • 33-42. It is used in shops, offices, educational institutions. It is a commercial product in demand.
  • 43. Extra strong vinyl coating. The thickness of such a tile can reach 4 mm. It is strengthened by special additives, making the surface anti-slip and antistatic. Used in gyms and dance clubs.

Advantages

The main concept of vinyl laminate and tiles is modularity, which allows you to combine several types of patterns at once and get a unique result.

  • Strength. Defined by the above classes. The higher the class, the higher the strength indicator.
  • Impact resistance. Does not break or crack, unlike models made of ceramics.
  • Acceptable price.
  • Availability of self-adhesive models.
  • Preservation. Appearance does not change during the specified period of operation.
  • Ease of maintenance. You can wash and clean such a coating using any chemical means.
  • Increased moisture resistance. Doesn't absorb water at all.
  • Ecological purity. Despite the artificial components, it does not have any harmful secretions, it can even be used in.
  • Little weight.
  • Ease of installation. Installing vinyl floor tiles is not difficult.
  • Possibility of partial replacement. In case of damage, you do not have to change the entire coating, it is enough to replace the damaged part.
  • Wide range of.

The ability to apply any pattern on the flooring allows you to create an imitation of any surface, from a sandy shore to a forest clearing.

Thus, such material combines the best qualities of other types: the beauty of parquet, the practicality of linoleum and the modularity of tiles.

Features of individual brands

Vinyl tile Tarkett (Tarkett Art Vinyl), for example, has a number of additional advantages.
  • Another layer of polyurethane protection. Levels the surface and prevents the ingress of dirt.
  • The presence of fiberglass. Prevents stretching of the product and enhances strength.
  • Higher ability to imitate natural materials. Wood, granite or sea surface - everything will look more natural.

Thus, Tarkett vinyl tile is a durable and protected material, which is guaranteed for 15 years. The cheapest types with a low load class can be found on sale from 550 rubles.

Also, when choosing, you should pay attention to Vinyl - PVC flooring from a Belgian company. They are not inferior in quality to Tarkett and give a guarantee of 25 years.

Vinilam modular quartz-vinyl coating has a high-quality texture that imitates natural materials very well. The price per square meter starts from 1380 rubles.

Floor laying

Vinyl flooring is really easy to install. The main thing is to properly prepare the floor, making it smooth and clean.

During laying, the temperature in the room must be above 15°C, the relative humidity of the air must be less than 60%. You also need to finish all the work on and doors and complete all the finishing work.
The coating must lie indoors for several days to adapt to temperature and humidity, otherwise it may change its dimensions. Also, you can not unpack it immediately after bringing it home from a cold temperature, the material may crack.

Laying vinyl floor tiles has the following steps:

  • First, prepare and, if necessary, degrease an even and dry base. If the floor is initially curved, digestion is carried out using a screed or self-leveling mixture. Small height differences up to 3 mm for every 2 m are allowed.
  • In one room, it is desirable to use materials from the same batch, which is indicated on the package, so that the color is the same.
  • Do not install vinyl flooring over existing linoleum, laminate, painted floors, hardboard, chipboard, plywood, or any other substrate that is subject to dimensional change due to temperature and humidity.
  • If there is no hygrometer to change the moisture level of concrete, you can check it in another way. To do this, cut off a piece of plastic film 1 * 1 m and glue it with adhesive tape along the edges to the floor for a day. If condensation appears on the inside of the polyethylene, then such a base is not suitable for installation.

  • Immediately before laying, the surface is dedusted and treated with a primer to increase adhesion.
  • The first stage of laying is to determine the center of the room. Unlike ordinary ceramic tiles, PVC counterparts are laid from the center of the room. To mark it, you need to measure the length and width of the room, divide them into two and draw two perpendicular lines through the center, as shown in the picture.
  • The first tile is laid, starting from the center, in a sector more distant from the entrance. Installation can take place “layer by layer”, like a conventional laminate, or by the pyramid method. In the first case, the rows are laid alternately, and in the second, full rows are first made up, and then the rest of the tiles are adjusted to them.
  • Vinyl flooring can also be laid side by side, butt to butt, diagonally. Offset tiles are usually done when laying rectangular types that imitate wood. Square tiles under ceramics are laid without moving the seams.
  • Diagonal laying requires additional floor markings. To do this, mark out two diagonal lines through the center of the room. Also, instead, you can simply lay the first tile with corners at the intersection of the primary marking in the center of the floor. This method of laying is more difficult, will require large expenses, but the result will be spectacular.
  • Laying self-adhesive vinyl tiles is very easy. To do this, just remove the protective film from the bottom and press the tiles to the floor with your hands, like a regular sticker. The resulting air bubbles are squeezed out.
  • If models with Click locks are purchased, then the use of glue for installation is not provided here. Such panels are joined like a conventional laminate - the locks are inserted at an angle and lowered.
  • It will be more difficult to install ordinary PVC tiles, without a self-adhesive layer and locks. Usually these are quartz vinyl types and some pressed models. Their packaging indicates which glue to use is best. Dispersion types of glue are applied only to the base, and contact types - both to the base and to the back of the tiles. Most often, acrylic dispersion adhesive is suitable, its consumption is approximately 250-350 g / sq. m.
  • Apply the adhesive in small patches with a notched trowel and press the tiles to the floor. To securely fix it, this is done evenly with a rubber mallet or roller. You can not use a dried layer of glue, so it is not applied immediately to a large area.
  • To simplify the selection of a pattern, special arrows are drawn on the reverse side of the tiles, which set the direction of the pattern. When laying, they should be directed in one direction.
  • Before laying the last row against the wall, measure the remaining width and cut the appropriate tile with a regular knife. At the same time, it is important to leave a temperature gap of 5-10 mm near all walls, pipes, doors. The plinth will hide it.
  • After about 1-2 days, the adhesive will dry and you can use the new floor covering.
