The 470th Order of the Red Star Methodical and Cynological Center for Service Dog Breeding, or military unit 32516, is located in the village of Knyazhevo, Dmitrovsky District, Moscow Region. The center includes the Krasnaya Zvezda kennel, where dog breeds are bred and bred. Employees of the unit are engaged in training and preparing animals for mine-detecting, search-and-rescue and guard duty.

Story

The activities of the cynological center began in 1924, when the Central Training and Experimental Nursery-School was opened at the shooting and tactical school "Shot". There, dogs were trained for military service and sports competitions. In 1926 the kennel was withdrawn from the "Shot" and reorganized into the Central School of Military and Sporting Dogs. In 1928, the school was reorganized into the Central School of Military Dog Breeding, and another area of animal training was added - guard duty.

Service dog breeds

Subsequently, the personnel of the unit introduced all sorts of innovations: in 1935 they tested dogs for tank-blasting service, in 1940 - for mine-detection. During the same period, a gas mask for dogs was developed.

In 1941, the Central School began to train animals for 11 types of services - communications, search, guard, guard, anti-tank, sanitary, sabotage, chemical reconnaissance, air signal, driving and mine detection. In all areas, military unit 32516 is still working. By the summer of 1941, the school was renamed the Central Military-Technical Riga Order of the Red Star School of trainers.

Pet training

In 1954, the unit changed its name - it became known as the Central Order of the Red Star School of Military Dog Breeding, and in 1960 it was transferred to the village of Knyazhevo.
In 1985, another renaming took place - in the 4th Central School of Junior Service Dog Breeding, they continued to train animals. Since 1987, the unit organization system has become a battalion.

And to this day, as eyewitnesses report, the structure of military unit 32516 has been preserved: it consists of 3 battalions of three companies each. The school received its modern name of the 470th MCC in 1994. The search for narcotic drugs was added to the areas of animal training.

eyewitness impressions

The first thing they talk about is, of course, about dogs. Here are German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Golden Retrievers, Huskies, Moscow Watchdogs and other breeds. There is a special stadium for their training, where animals are trained to overcome obstacles and detain violators. In addition, service dogs can deliver explosive devices to railway tracks, search for people, conduct searches, and much more.
Animals are kept in special enclosures, next to each there is a sign with the name and characteristics. Food is prepared for them according to special recipes, the diet is strictly observed. A part of the museum operates.

Sworn in recruits of the Methodological and Canine Center

As for service in military unit 32516, there is nothing unusual there, except for training dogs in special equipment. Soldiers live in a well-maintained Kubrick barracks; service housing or rented apartments are provided for contract soldiers. In the latter case, an additional payment is made to the military. In the barracks, they settle in quarters, there is a relaxation room with a TV and a stereo system, a gym-rocking chair.
There is a canteen, chips and an infirmary on the territory. There is a veterinary clinic for animals. The military hospital is located in the village. Khlebnikovo, soldiers can be visited on weekdays (from 11.00 to 13.00) and on weekends (from 11.00 to 13.00, from 17.00 to 19.00) Hazing and hazing are not noted. They say that the food is not good enough, but it all depends on the change of cooks.

Sleeping arrangement of the fighters of the center

The oath is taken at 10.00, on Saturdays, everyone is allowed to take it. It is recommended to arrive early, especially if you have your own car. Lists are posted at the checkpoint of military unit 32516, which indicate the data of the fighter, as well as his location (outfit, MP, hospital). During the solemn acceptance of the oath, the soldiers are photographed. Pictures are sent to relatives on a flash drive when they file a dismissal. To do this, they traditionally leave a passport as a pledge, write a statement (it indicates the address at which the recruit will be located). Leave is granted until 8.00 Sunday. For the rest of the time, specify the layoff regulations, but it is better to plan a visit on Sunday. Mobile phones are issued on weekends.

The formation of the soldiers of the center on the parade ground

Employees spend about half a year in the center, they train dogs or work with already trained animals. Then distribution is carried out in the part of Russia where cynologists are required. Representatives from other units are called "buyers": they interview the fighters of military unit 32516 and look through their personal files. Most often, Khabarovsk, Sakhalin, Bikin or Chebarkul are named among the places of distribution.
Military unit 32516 pays monetary allowances to employees on a VTB-24 card. A Sberbank ATM is located at the headquarters of the center. Relatives usually open the Momentum card and give it to the soldier. You can pay with a card in a chip, and withdraw money through contractors. The military department closest to the unit is located in Dmitrovo at ul. Markova, 21.

Parcels and letters

Every last Saturday of August, the heavy gates of military unit 32516, which is also the 470th methodological and canine center for service dog breeding of the Armed Forces of Russia, are opened for everyone to see what military cynology is alive and well today, what four-legged defenders of the fatherland and their trainers are capable of - soldiers and officers of this legendary military unit. It is here that the Krasnaya Zvezda kennel is located, to which world dog breeding owes the appearance of the Moscow Watchdog and Russian Black Terrier breeds (also known as Stalin's dog - Stalin's dog).

The history of the center begins in August 1924, when by order of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Red Army, in order to conduct experiments on the use of dogs in military affairs, the Central Training and Experimental Kennel-School of Military and Sports Dogs was organized. The first issue took place in the fall of 1925. The first baptism of fire of the pupils of the school took place in 1939 at Khalkhin Gol. By this time, the center had successfully mastered the methods of training dogs in mine-blasting, fighting enemy tanks. Four-legged fighters also went through the Finnish campaign of 1940, including a unit of sled teams. During the Great Patriotic War, the school trained and sent to the front 33 thousand dogs, 20 thousand personnel, formed 2 regiments, 6 battalions, 28 companies and platoons, destroyed 300 enemy tanks, discovered 4 million mines, destroyed 6 thousand German soldiers and officers, 2 thousand were taken prisoner. Dogs carried 680 thousand wounded Soviet soldiers from the battlefield, 20 thousand combat reports were delivered by communication dogs. Here, after the war, the first guide dogs in the Soviet Union were trained. Since 1960, the school has been relocated to its current location - in the village of Knyazhevo, Dmitrovsky district, Moscow region. From 1980 until the end of hostilities, school graduates serve in Afghanistan. Since 1994, the school has had its current name - 470 of the Order of the Red Star, a methodological and cynological center for service dog breeding of the armed forces of the Russian Federation. The center trains specialists in the following services: guard, mine-detection, search and rescue and search. Every six months, the center sends up to 400 dogs with soldiers to serve in the military units of the country. The head of the center is Colonel Dronenko Alexey Vladimirovich.

The center is located in an ecologically clean area of the Moscow region, far from industrial zones and transport hubs, among mixed forests. Part of it looks very well-groomed, although it is clear that the personnel worked very, very hard for the holiday.

I hope that someday I will be able to visit 470 MCC and get to know its inhabitants a little closer, without the fuss and haste of the day. To the heroes of the photographs - success in labor and defense. Soldiers - imminent and inevitable demobilization, officers - new stars on shoulder straps, dogs - delicious food and interesting service, and puppies - to become strong, courageous and faithful service dogs)

Behind the scenes left: four episodes of ahem mending dogs right during demonstration performances; a frontal attack on a tank and a demolition dog - this action took place too far, it was almost impossible to shoot through shells on the field.

Brief information about the nursery:

18 km from Dmitrov, there is a unique kennel "Krasnaya Zvezda", where not only dogs are raised, but also breed, as well as train dogs for the needs of the Army and law enforcement agencies, search and rescue services. Together with the RKF holds dog shows.
The Central School of Military Dog Breeding is the only special unit in the Russian Army.
Every six months, 400 trained dogs with soldiers go to serve in military units.
The origin and history of the development of one of the oldest military units of the Moscow region, founded in 1924, is carefully preserved by the Museum of Dog Breeding, where during its organization there were only 8 breeds of dogs, and today more than 1200 serve.
On November 3, 1944, for the heroism and courage shown in the battles against the Nazi invaders, the school was awarded the Order of the RED STAR.
The film "Come to me, Mukhtar" with Yuri Nikulin was filmed here.
military unit 32516.

So, a report about my visit to the Red Star dog training center (or rather, the 470th Order of the Red Star (assigned after the Victory in the Second World War) to the methodical and dog training center of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation) in the village of Knyazhino, near Dmitrov.
This place is unique - the only one in Russia. In addition, this is a training military unit, where conscripted soldiers stay for 3 months, master the work of a counselor (the so-called soldier with a dog) and go further - to serve in another military unit, usually on guard - near warehouses with food and explosives.

Please note that the quote from Exupery has taken root on the shield, which is placed in front of the entrance to the nursery. Did none of our people say anything so eternal and humane? For some reason, the strange icon in the upper left corner made me think that the dog had swallowed the cat. In general, I don’t really like cats, so I didn’t feel discomfort at the sight of such a terrible picture.

Later it turned out that ours also spoke in quotations. For example, academician Pavlov, a famous dog tormentor. His saying hangs in the local veterinary infirmary.

But this poster, repeatedly replicated throughout the part, turns out to be untrue.

The cynological center includes a kennel and part of service dog breeding. So, black terriers, divers and Moscow watchdogs were not seen among service dogs. I was told that black terriers are only for the maintenance of the breed. In general, this is too expensive a dog to serve in the army. Therefore, they live in special conditions, participate in exhibitions and receive increased feed rations.
Everyone is recruited for the service - for example, Belgian shepherd dogs, Labradors, various yard crosses, if the constitution is successful - they are bought from the population.
They even teach sledding huskies (or, more correctly, husky? :)) to serve. The private cut through on a team, like a real Chukchi. Poor fellow, I feel he will have to serve among the northern peoples. Learn to eat raw fish stroganina and sing endless songs in the style of the Chukchi. Or maybe even get married there - they say the men are in great demand there.

In general, almost any breed, except perhaps decorative ones, is suitable for service in the Russian army. For example, I photographed a "veteran" of the army service - a Russian spaniel, an old man. They say he had an excellent sense of smell, and he proved himself remarkably in the service, looking for mines. Now he lives out his canine life together with other guard dogs, being placed in the farthest cage.

An interesting point. If desired, a soldier can go to work with his dog. One of the servicemen showed how he managed to raise a "shaggy friend" for guard duty. Here he is - in the foreground, with his personal dog.

The service dog center is, in fact, a training center. Here they will spend three months, and then together they will go to guard some warehouses. Judging by the wooliness of the "friend" somewhere in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. By the way, the “friend” brought down the saboteurs very efficiently. Approximately like this:

And I thought that a soldier with such a "friend" is not afraid of hazing. Taking a dog with you to the army is like going to the service with a machine gun - no enemy is terrible.

On the territory of the center there is a "Maternity Ward", "Kindergarten", "Veterinary Clinic", "Infirmary", "Training Center". Dogs are treated with love and attention. In the Lazaret, for example, I saw a Rottweiler with a diagnosis of bronchitis. All diagnoses are recorded on a personal card attached to the bars.
“Tell me,” I turned to the officer of the veterinary service, “how did you determine that this dog had exactly bronchitis? Did he start barking hoarsely?
“No, no,” the officer was surprised at the question. All dogs are supervised by handlers. If they see that the dog has become lethargic, refuses food, they take her to the doctor. He listened to her, heard wheezing, diagnosed bronchitis.
“Doesn’t it happen that they simulate?” I joked.
"Like this?"
“Well, so that they don’t drive in the winter? He refused food, lay down, went to the infirmary to rest.
The officer understood me and laughed:
“No, dogs can't fake. Unlike soldiers.
In vain he thinks so. I am sure that there are cunning bugs who know how to deceive their leaders. According to Persik Eduardovich Korovkin (this is my French bulldog, if someone is not in the know), I know what tricks our smaller brothers are capable of.

The relationship between people and dogs has not always been cloudless. Even within the center. First of all, dogs serve for 8 years. And the soldiers-counselors change regularly. Therefore, a recruit who is in training has to build relationships with a ready-made service dog. So there are bitten conscripts, you can’t do without it.

During the war, dogs blew up German tanks at the cost of their own lives. A mine was attached to the back of the dog, and she threw herself under the tank, where the armor is the thinnest. If there was no explosion, the dog was killed by his own sniper, because, having run back to the trenches, he could already inflict damage on our troops. They launched dogs from a distance of 30-40 meters so that the Germans did not have time to destroy a live mine. It so happened that the Nazis, seeing the dogs, deployed tanks, because they understood that the losses could be very large.
Fortunately, in 1943, by personal decree of Zhukov, kamikaze dogs were banned. Not that Zhukov was very worried about our smaller brothers. It's just that one of them happened to mistakenly run under a Soviet tank. Zhukov, of course, did not like this.

The museum of the center houses many of the most amazing exhibits. For example, the skulls of German and East European Shepherds, magazines for the blind. The center also trains guide dogs, they say, there is a queue for them for several years. I didn’t quite understand why, if there is such a need, not to train more dogs with just such a specialization - for the blind.

A separate section of the museum is dedicated to the doctor who conducted organ transplant experiments on dogs. Some are quite strange and violent. For example, he transplanted a second head into one of the dogs. “The second head lived for another month, slurping milk,” said the director of the museum. The surname retained the name of this canine doctor Mengele - Demikhov V.P. I don’t know if he is alive now, or has already gone to another world, but I can perfectly imagine with what impatience the former “patients”, including two-headed ones, are waiting for him on the other side to put their teeth into the flesh of the “good” doctor.

Of course, we were not allowed into the maternity ward. Here are the smallest ones, so the “breeders” are afraid of infection. And rightly so, as you know, there are a lot of infections from bloggers. A month-old Labrador puppy was shown from the window. Whether he will go to the nursery or will serve depends on how much he will correspond to the parameters of the breed.

So, according to museum taxidermists, the ancestor of the dog looked like. Either the wolf crossed with the jackal - apparently, there was no suitable she-wolf at that time, and the jackal turned up very opportunely. Whether the dog was a separate species, domesticated by man. Historical science has not found an answer to this question.

Near the main headquarters there is a monument to a cynologist with a dog. Judging by the Budyonovka and the rifle, the hero of the Civil War is depicted.

The museum presents two types of inventory and equipment for working with service dogs. It will not be easy to bite through such a wadded garment. But rumor has it that it happens. Especially if it has been used for a long time.

There are other monuments on the territory. For example, a Pithecanthropus sprinkled with snow, in which you cannot immediately recognize an athlete - a discus thrower. Why the unit's leadership decided that a thrower would be suitable for the canine center is a big mystery, a quirk of military thinking.

In general, the monuments in parts are made in a very diverse style. But, of course, everyone decorates, in general, a vast desert territory. They say that there used to be a military airfield here. But then he moved somewhere.

While the dogs showed us the miracles of training and overcame various obstacles, a lone black dog was sitting in the distance by the fence, barking and howling resentfully.
“Tell me, is he a security guard? I mean, is he serving, guarding the part behind the fence? - I asked with understanding.
“No, what are you,” the commander waved his hand, “this is our backup option.”
What that meant, I never understood. Apparently, one of the wards could balk, refuse to carry out commands, then a black reservist would be brought into action. He must be good at the job and experienced.

I have the impression that the military is most proud of the Black Terrier breed bred at the local kennel. The ancestors of the black terrier include the Giant Schnauzer and the Airedale Terrier, and some other wolfhound. Someone will say, eka is unseen - he crossed a couple of breeds, and got a cross. But, in fact, dogs are a big mystery of nature. Because none of the breeders knows what can come from crossing certain breeds. A bastard of such monstrous proportions and character can come out that any breeder wants to shoot him immediately after the first meeting. Therefore, breeding a new breed is a long and hard process. "Black Terrier" - the star of the kennel. I was told that for one such puppy breeders take from 800 dollars. I don't know how true this amount is.

The first black terrier we met had a bowl in its mouth. The military hastened to assure him that this was not because he wanted to eat (!) – he was just very playful, now he decided to play with his bowl. Because other toys are not provided for by the charter.

Nicknames for dogs are given with imagination. Natasha growled and threw herself against the bars. Good thing the cage is locked. Natasha they are - they can bite.

After the "maternity" department, the dogs go to the "Kindergarten". There are now only three pets in the kindergarten - a shepherd dog, a Moscow watchdog and a labrador. The first two puppies are restless and bark frantically. The Labrador runs around with a friendly look, very calm, and waving his tail. Golden character.
"Kindergarten" is almost empty, because at the moment there is a reduction of units throughout Russia, and the troops are fully equipped with service dogs - there are about 3,000 of them.

Another pride of the kennel is the Moscow watchdog. On the poster, there is a strange discrepancy - "calm balanced dog", and at the end - "evil". How can you be both calm and balanced and at the same time angry? For example, I can't. Perhaps the breeders have done a miracle.

Just do not think that only these three breeds are bred in the nursery. There are also Rottweilers, and Labradors, and Golden Retrievers, and even such South Russian shaggy dogs - and all the medalists, the standard of the breed. In short, champions.

I asked with my characteristic simplicity, how much can you earn on puppies? They looked at me as if I had said something indecent.
“The hucksters are earning! - noticed the political officer and hissed with contempt: - The so-called breeders. And we are a state institution. We don't sell anything."

And in vain do not sell, by the way. We could make good money. Doesn't the part need extra income?

In general, it was very interesting to visit this unusual place. Military cynologists, it seems to me, are very good people. First, it is written on their faces. Good faces. Altruists, moreover, as it turned out.

I would advise you to go there, but mere mortals are unlikely to be allowed into the territory. Although, they say, excursions for schoolchildren are periodically organized there. But if you are not a schoolboy, they will definitely not let you in.

On February 23, Lana and I are making a strange selection of posts. We want to please everyone) I posted this post about a year ago, and after reading it I decided - but it’s good, infection! So why don't we remember today those who help without being able to speak, who are devoted, who love us no matter what. Who saved and saves lives. Who was carried on an overcoat at the Victory Parade in 45, who have monuments ...
I want to tell you about the service dog kennel "Krasnaya Zvezda". About the dogs that are bred there. About how he lived, what he lived, what is happening to him now. In my opinion, today it is worth congratulating not only people, but also service dogs.) They also defend the Fatherland.

The history of the "Red Star" began in the distant 1924. Then it was called the "Central Training and Experimental Kennel-School of Military and Sports Dogs." It consisted of only 35 people and 44 dogs. They were mainly German, Caucasian, South Russian and Central Asian Shepherd Dogs.
The first graduation of the school of military dog breeding took place in 1926. And the first baptism of fire of dogs and their guides took place in 1939 at Khalkhin Gol.
There were not so many dog specialties at that time ...

On June 24, 1941, the school was renamed the "Central Military Technical School of Dog Breeding". At that time, dogs were trained in 11 specialties:

  • sentry,

  • communications,

  • search,

  • sanitary,

  • watchdog,

  • anti-tank,

  • sabotage,

  • chemical intelligence dogs,

  • air signal,

  • sled

  • mine detective

"In total, during the years of World War II, the following were trained and sent:
officers - 2191,
sergeants - 4391,
counselors - 15916.
2 separate regiments, 6 separate battalions, 28 separate companies and platoons were formed.
33071 dogs were trained;
over 300 tanks destroyed,
over 4 million mines discovered;
680,000 seriously wounded were removed from the battlefield;
communication dogs delivered more than 20 thousand combat reports;
more than 6 thousand German soldiers and officers were destroyed,
over 2,000 taken prisoner."
(quote)

After the war, the kennel "Red Star", which was part of the school, which at that time was called the 2nd Central Military-Technical Riga Order of the Red Star School of trainers, received trophy dogs of the Rottweiler, Giant Schnauzer breeds and a large number of fresh blood of German shepherds. And a unique single specimens of Newfoundlands (erroneously at first called Tibetan Great Danes) and perfect exotics - St. Bernards!Before the war, the kennel was not able to buy these dogs for foreign currency.

The number of working dogs in the USSR was at that time almost completely destroyed. And the management of the nursery was given the task (at that time colossal - the country was in ruins) to breed a breed capable of working in any climate. It should be large, easily trained, vicious, with a massive skeleton, extremely hardy and terribly unpretentious, with excellent protective qualities. It was the end of the 1940s... amateurs were not able to cope with the task exactly, but the kennel did it with a bang. A breed unique in its qualities was born - Moscow watchdog.
It was taken out professor-biologist N.A. Ilyin, commander of the Central School of Military Dog Breeding "Red Star" Major General G.P. Medvedeva, head of the breeding kennel Bortnikov Nikolai Ivanovich.

The breed was bred by very difficult crossing of different dogs. The following were involved in the conduct of the Moscow watchdog: Caucasian and German Shepherds, St. Bernard, Russian canine greyhound, Russian piebald hound. But it turned out that breeds appeared in parallel: black Russian terrier, Moscow dog, Moscow diver. The last two have almost disappeared unfortunately.
But back to the Moscow watchdog.

In 1950, the first puppies from test matings were presented, and in 1960 Orslan was born - it was he who became the ancestor of the Moscow Watchdog breed.

Orslan

Now the nursery has done the almost impossible - the genealogical groups of the breed are maintained through the descendants of Orslan's sons: Dick (the best representative of the breed at that time), Jack-Genal, Icarus, Malysh and Murat.

At the same time, the cynologists painfully searched for the whole way of breeding the breed, what should be the appearance of dogs. They even tried to stop their tails and ears according to the principle of Asians, but the result was what we see now.

This is Ermak - the best representative of the breed from the kennel "Krasnaya Zvezda", a multiple champion. Its task is to produce reference offspring. It's the standard!

The kennel "Krasnaya Zvezda" did not hide the bred breeds from the people, puppies were actively registered all over the country. But, they gave them into the hands of VERY experienced dog breeders, and they people could wait for several years before getting the coveted furry. The recording went through service dog breeding clubs, with which Krasnaya Zvezda actively cooperated. It is thanks to this that we can see representatives of this unique breed at exhibitions, we can even purchase, if desired, such a puppy. There are nurseries where the Moscow watchdog is bred.

The Moscow Watchdog is not a dog for the dilettante. This is a large, above average height, dog with strong bones and well-developed muscles. It has an independent character, is easy to train, has a huge plus - it does not choose one owner in the family, the watchdog instinct is pronounced, it should not show unmotivated aggression. Often the dog is called the most intelligent among the service guard-protective breeds. Only the dog will show all these qualities with the right, strict upbringing, in an atmosphere of love and understanding. At the same time, the dog is unpretentious - he feels great in any climate, they live in apartments and private houses.

The second unique breed bred in the nursery was Russian Black Terrier (RTCH) or Stalin's dog (they also say Beria's dog). She appeared at the same time as the Moscow watchdog.
The task in breeding the breed was the same: large, vicious, unpretentious, easily trained. Newfoundland, Rottweiler, Caucasian Shepherd Dog, Giant Schnauzer and Elder Terrier breeds participated here. Roy became the first representative of the breed. In his offspring, the persistent appearance of large, well-grown puppies was noted. It was from the children of Roy and Setty (Airedale) that the RTC generation came.

In 1955, RTC was shown for the first time at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition, and in 1957 there were already 43 representatives of this breed at the All-Union Exhibition of Service and Hunting Dogs. From that moment on, puppies by appointment begin to fall into the hands of amateur dog breeders. It is to them that we owe today's appearance of the Black Russian Terrier. Dogs similar to the original breeds (Rotweiler, Airedale, Newf) were culled, dogs with a brindle, tan, blue color were not allowed to breed. RTCH can only be black, light gray hair is allowed.

Now there are two types of this breed: more massive and heavy, tall giant dogs, and square, above average height, with good overgrowth, lack of "saber" dogs. Do not forget that the word terrier in the name of the breed does not mean that the dog is directly related to them. This is an intermediate type between rizens and rottweels. The Terrier is a tribute to the Airedales, which were used in breeding. Although abroad, our Lego RTCs can and do receive the title of "Best Terrier")))

RFC from the nursery "Red Star"

The Russian Black Terrier is a serious dog. Even more than. Evil, choosing one owner, and adoring him all his life. He treats his family and children very well, takes them under his protection, which, if the dog is raised incorrectly, can end sadly. The dog must be brought up strictly. If once something is banned, it cannot be allowed in the future. With the right upbringing, you will get a wonderful dog: brave to the last breath, smart, cunning, which will always protect you and your family. And she is playful, affectionate, does not shed, has no smell. Lives great in an apartment. And despite its small dimensions, it is extremely compact. When attacked, it is explosive: knocked down, scared, and again lies a splash-splash. Keep this in mind, especially when you have guests at home. The dog will lie, pasture all strangers through a long bang, and attack instantly if it decides that its pack, its family is threatened.

The third breed that has gained popularity, but is rarely seen, has become East European Shepherd. Although lovers and fans of the breed are trying to maintain its livestock.
VEO appeared during the war, and in the 50s, Major General Medvedev, head of the Military School of Dog Breeding, proposed recognizing this dog as a separate breed.
By the way, VEO was named the most patriotic dog for its services to the Motherland during the Great Patriotic War.

The breed receives its first standard in 1964, supplemented it and fixed it in 1976. And work with this breed is being carried out until the collapse of the USSR. But the dashing 90s, attempts to prove that everything that was in the Soviet Union was bad in fact, did not ignore the unique shepherd dog.
VEO did not accept FCI as a separate breed, and our shepherd breeders and kennels began to enthusiastically destroy the livestock, excluding it from breeding, culling puppies with signs of VEO. Brains without brains, what to take from them?
Then it seemed to these figures that the breed would be completely destroyed. But it was not there. VEO did not give up so easily.

Exclusively thanks to the true lovers of the breed, the East European Shepherd was saved. In 1991, the Association of Breeding Nurseries VEO appeared, in 1999 - the Unified Book of VEO matings. Dogs continued to breed, improving the breed and its qualities. The result was the recognition of the RKF breed in 2002. A single standard was developed and now the East European Shepherd is slowly gaining former honor and respect along with popularity. To be honest, I like this breed much more than the German Shepherd. Just look how handsome!

"The main differences between the VEO and the Germans:

  • Easterners are larger and taller than Germans (up to 76 cm at the withers for males, 72 cm for females),

  • the back is not so sloping, the withers are slightly higher than the sacrum;

  • the chest is wider;

  • movements are more sweeping, with a strong supporting push; differences in colors: VEO often has a light background;

  • Easterners are more calm, Germans are more active and playful;

  • Easterners are a universal working dog, they are more suitable for carrying out various services, while Germans are more often acquired as a human companion.(quote)

The nature of VEO is serious, extremely focused on his master, for him they will go into fire and water without hesitation. In all seriousness, the dog rarely shows unmotivated aggression, has a strong nervous system, innate dignity and understands its strength and power. Looking at these huge dogs you are imbued with involuntary respect. How proudly they carry owls with chiseled heads, what facial expressions are reflected on their muzzles. Positive - I love them!

This breed is highly trainable. The dog loves children, does not offend smaller animals. You need to educate her from the first day of her appearance in your home. The breed is not suitable for amateurs. This is really a guard dog, it is all aimed at protecting and protecting its owner and his family, this is a purely working breed. In the family, she can have only one owner. The rest are at the level of furniture)

And two more breeds that have already disappeared are the Moscow Great Dane and the Moscow Newlandland. The first one is called a dead end branch for some reason, although this is not so. The goal was to give Great Danes greater endurance and the ability to live in the climate of our country. They began to cross with VEO. A dog appeared above average height, large, often with erect ears, red with a mask and black colors. Thicker coat, hardy.

The dogs turned out to be very smart, they easily took 3-meter hurdles (!!!), they were perfectly trainable, they became extremely hardy. The breed received its standard, but was withdrawn from breeding. For what reasons is not clear. apparently at that time it was considered unpromising. It's a pity. Who would refuse such a huge smart hardy dog?)

The Moscow diver was bred and bred from the late 40s to the early 80s. The livestock was very small, the breed did not receive popularity among amateur dog breeders.

And although such breeding had great prospects (the dogs were smart, vicious, very hardy), the breed was withdrawn from breeding and remained experimental.

In the 90s, the kennel and the entire school of military dog breeding almost disappeared. There was even nothing to feed the dogs, and the officers shared their rations with the dogs. Such trash on the verge of survival lasted ten years. But in 2002, the UK's Walsham Center saved the day by shutting down an agreement to test, develop and manufacture dog food for animals in the service of Her Majesty's Army.

By the way, as they say, every last Saturday of August you can get to military unit 32516, which is the 470th methodological and canine center for service dog breeding of the Russian Armed Forces. It is there that the unique nursery "Red Star" is located.
