Reading time: 4 minutes

Plastic doors are a well-established competitor to the classic wooden construction. They are known to everyone thanks to their use in shops and offices, but there is a place for such doors in an apartment - they are installed in a balcony opening. Plastic doors are not so difficult to cause big problems for the owner. But, like any mechanism, during operation, they can also periodically experience minor malfunctions that require intervention. Adjusting plastic doors is a simple process, you can do this work yourself, but you need some knowledge to help you carry it out.

Malfunctions that occur during the operation of plastic doors

If the door closes tightly or a strong draft is felt from under it, this is already a clearly expressed problem that needs to be eliminated. It is not necessary to bring to this state, because the presence of obvious malfunctions leads to great difficulties in setting up, as well as to the wear of some parts. There are simple methods for checking the correct operation of the doors, which will allow you to determine in a timely manner whether adjustment is necessary.

Checking the pressure of the door to the frame

The condition of the sealing rubber will first of all “tell” the correctness of the door clamp. If it is crushed from some angle or its thickness has decreased, this is a clear sign of improper pressing.

In addition to taking measures to adjust the door, the deformed sealing gum will have to be replaced.

Method for checking the uniformity of door pressure against the frame:

  1. A sheet of paper must be placed between the frame and the door leaf.
  2. The sash must be closed and, remembering the applied force, pull out the paper.
  3. The previous steps should be repeated around the entire perimeter of the frame.

If in some place the paper is pulled out effortlessly or, conversely, it is impossible to remove it, this indicates the need to adjust the pressure.

Door sag detection

Sagging of the door leaf is possible, the presence of which can be determined using a level or a simple pencil.

  • When installing the frame and door leaf, installers must use the building level, since all elements are set strictly vertically or horizontally. Using a similar tool, you can quickly determine the presence of sagging in the door.
  • In the absence of a level, an ordinary pencil is enough to draw a line along the entire canvas with the door closed. Then the sash needs to be opened and the parallelism of the line to the edges of the box must be determined. The difference in the width of the resulting strip should not exceed 2 mm.

Self-adjustment: tools

After identifying a defect, it will be necessary to adjust the metal-plastic doors, which, if there is a guarantee, will be performed by a called specialist. However, after the expiration of the warranty period, a waiting time for a repairman is required, which is sometimes delayed. If you consider in addition to this the cost of adjustment, it makes sense to adjust the correct operation of the door yourself. This will require a simple set of tools, including:

  • pliers or pliers;
  • two screwdrivers - flat and cross-shaped;
  • hexagons - L-shaped keys with sizes from 2.5 to 5 mm;
  • plastic gaskets;
  • roulette.

pressure adjustment process

This process eliminates the gaps that have arisen through which the draft leaks.

Most often, the clamping force can be adjusted only by rotating the eccentric screws, which are located at the end of the door leaf. Near the screw with a recess for the hexagon there is a special mark - a dot in the form of a small notch, which helps to determine the density of the clamp. If it is necessary to loosen the clamping force, the screw turns with a mark to the frame, and when strengthened, vice versa, to the room.

Difficulties may arise due to the fact that there are usually three such eccentrics - top, bottom and in the middle. Therefore, it is necessary to act by experiment, turning the screws at the same angle. After each installation of a new position, it is necessary to control the result.

Please note: these screws provide good clamping only near the handle. In practice, there may be a need for additional adjustment near the canopies. In this case, the adjustment is carried out with hexagon screws located at the top of the two hinges (upper and lower).

Important! The design of the doors may differ, sometimes the pressure adjustment is carried out using a special pin, which is turned with pliers, to increase the clamping force, it must be placed perpendicular to the door leaf.

Eliminate horizontal and vertical offset

The door may deviate from the desired position horizontally or vertically. The adjustment in each of these cases will be different.

Vertical offset

At the bottom of each hinge there are adjusting screws with a 5 mm hex socket. They are responsible for moving the canvas vertically. In this case, to move up or down, you need to adjust all three screws.

Rotation to the right (clockwise) is to raise the door. Two turns are usually sufficient for adjustment.

If you need to adjust the strikers and install them in a new, shifted up or down position, you will need a flat screwdriver and a 2.5 mm hexagon.

When adjusting the main striker, if the movement of the striker is not enough, a Phillips screwdriver is required.

There are times when there is not enough screw travel to complete the adjustment. In this case, you need to "pull out" the door. To do this, you need to remove the plastic glazing beads and insert pre-prepared plastic spacers into the space between the profile and the double-glazed window, without applying much effort.

If the implementation of the adjustment process is not understandable, then it is better to call a specialist and entrust him with this work. In this case, you will have the opportunity to observe how a professional makes adjustments, so that if problems occur again, you can adjust yourself.

Experience shows that it is more practical to install plastic doors on a balcony or loggia. Firstly, it is cheap, and secondly, they perfectly retain heat, do not allow drafts or moisture to enter the room.

Initially, when installing plastic doors, the craftsmen adjust them, but after a while, difficulties may arise with closing or opening them. In this case, there are two options for resolving the problem - call the master, or adjust the balcony door yourself.

To begin with, consider what problems may arise during operation:

  • The door has dropped and touches the threshold;

All because of the load of the canvas with glass on the hinges, from which sagging occurs.

  • The door does not close or does not close well in the middle of the leaf;

The canvas may shift to the free edge of the box, due to temperature or high constant humidity.

  • The canvas does not close tightly, and cold air or a draft penetrates into the room from the door;

It can occur during operation, when the regulating mechanism is slightly loosened.

  • The handle dangles;

The handle begins to dangle due to frequent use and this is a common practice for using a plastic door.

How to troubleshoot with your own hands:

1. Sagging canvas on the threshold

We start the adjustment from the top hinge, for this the door needs to be opened. At the very top of the hinge is a hex or star-shaped screw (they are different in different models). We select a suitable key and make several turns with the key clockwise. Do not overdo it, it is better to tighten it up once again after checking.

If, after the work done, the sash touches the threshold, then it is necessary to look at the lower loop. If there is a protective cap on the loop, then it must be removed. We are looking for the same hexagon or asterisk, it will also be located at the top of the loop. We make several turns with the key clockwise. We check, this procedure should solve the problem completely.

2. The canvas touches the middle of the door frame

This nuance can be solved by tightening the bolt on the canopy. We start everything from the lower canopy, only this time we are looking for a bolt on the side. We select the key and make a few turns back the same clockwise. Such a procedure will pull the canvas to the canopy and automatically move it away from the free edge of the box.

If, after such manipulations, the door still rubs against the box, then we carry out all of the above with an upper canopy.

Do not be lazy, check several times whether everything suits you, if there are flaws, it is better to eliminate them immediately.

3. The gaps between the box and the canvas, moisture or cold penetrate into the room. How to adjust the plastic balcony door to the clamp:

This disadvantage can also be solved at home on your own. We open the door and look for trunnions (or eccentrics) from the free side edge. Often there are three of them: at the top, in the middle and at the bottom.

Pins or eccentrics need to be turned slightly towards the sealing gum with a screwdriver or pliers. After each change in the position of the eccentrics, you need to check the door clamp. This procedure must be carried out with all three eccentrics.

This may take some time, because the work is delicate and scrupulous. On the hinge side, you also need to check the clamp. We close the door and in the canopies at the top and bottom we are looking for a bolt, and we need to tighten it up a little.

The main and almost the only problem that a plastic door can force you to face is adjusting the hinges. As a rule, high-quality modern plastic structures, with proper operation, do not require any more hassle. But regulation also causes difficulties for many people.

During the installation of a new plastic door, installers must immediately adjust it in place, and for some time its operation is not satisfactory. But under the influence of its own weight, the structure can sag and stop closing well.

How to adjust the products in this case or when other malfunctions occur? How to avoid some problems? Finally, how do you know when a plastic door needs adjustment? We will try to answer these questions.

What you need to know

First of all, I would like to advise you to purchase products only in well-established companies and not save on quality. During installation, it is advisable to control the installation process to make sure that the initial adjustment of the plastic door has been carried out.

What to look for when accepting work

Good operation of products and their durability depend both on the quality of the materials and fittings from which it is made, and on proper installation and adjustment.

When accepting work from installers, pay attention to the following points:

  • How tightly the frame is pressed against the box. The fit should be tight and uniform around the entire perimeter.
  • Make sure the door closes and opens easily without effort.. Do not be too lazy to check its verticality with a building level.
  • Open it halfway and see if it will arbitrarily tend to open or close. In this case, it is necessary to exclude the influence of wind or drafts.

Before the installers arrive, watch the video - adjusting the plastic doors - to get an idea of what they are required to do.

How to understand that the door is time to adjust

Tight closing and strong drafts (see What to do if it is blowing from the front door: eliminating drafts) are already obvious problems that cannot be overlooked and are more difficult to fix than if problems are detected at an earlier stage. There are simple ways to pay attention to the need for adjustment in time.

To determine if the pressure on the box has loosened, take a sheet of paper and clamp it between the box and the frame, closing the door tightly. Then pull the paper towards you and pull it out, fixing the effort with which you did it. Do this around the perimeter.

If the sheet in any area is pulled out with the same effort, everything is in order. If somewhere it happens too easily, it means that in this place the tightness of the fit is insufficient.

If the door began to sag, you can find out about this by circling the closed sash around the perimeter with a simple pencil. The drawn lines should run parallel to the corresponding edges of the box. If they deviate from parallel, it's time to decide how to adjust.

Adjustment Instruction

Once you find that the door needs adjustment, try not to postpone this matter for a long time, otherwise it may require expensive repairs (see Do-it-yourself plastic door repair). A depressed seal, a displaced sash, a tight turn of the handle are already clear signals that it is time to take action.

How plastic doors are adjusted is the instruction below.

Horizontal adjustment

Most often, it is required to eliminate the sagging that occurs due to the own gravity of the door:

  • Open the door to access the screws, with which decorative linings are screwed. Remove the screws from the top two hinges with a 3mm Allen key.
  • Close the door and remove the trims under which there are several adjustment screws. You want the longest of them, placed horizontally.

Vertical adjustment

Sometimes it is necessary to evenly raise or lower the entire door. To understand how to adjust the plastic door vertically with your own hands, you need to find an adjusting screw in the lower end of the hinge, directed along the axis of the hinge.

For reference. On the entrance plastic doors, the adjusting screw can be closed with a plug that needs to be removed. When setting up a balcony door with your own hands, you need to do the same.

Adjustment requires a 5mm hex key. Turning it clockwise will raise the door, counter-clockwise lower it.

Pressure adjustment

The adjustment of the pressure of plastic doors should be changed regularly when the season changes - loosen for the summer and strengthen for the winter. This is done very simply, using the same tool - a hexagon.

    Locate the lock pin on the door frame.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated in such a matter as adjusting plastic doors - the video on our website will help you understand this in more detail.

If you have more serious problems than those described here, call the master at home - he will fix everything quickly and efficiently. It is also necessary to call a specialist during the entire period of warranty service.

Possible defects of plastic doors installed at the entrance and features of their adjustment

Plastic doors have established themselves as a reliable mechanism with a long service life. However, already during the first years of use, most owners are looking for information on how to adjust plastic doors - entrance or balcony. The search for defects in the structural elements of the box and the blade precedes the start of adjustment and repair work. Most problems can be corrected by tightening individual threaded connections.

Under some circumstances, a PVC product requires urgent adjustment. If this is not done immediately, it can be expected that the structure will soon become unusable and will have to be dismantled. Experts recommend that maintenance be carried out annually, more frequent repairs will lead to rapid wear of the product. This is due to the wear of the plastic frame, seals, adjustment screws and microlifts.

How to find defects

To detect flaws and adjust the correct position, you should take into account the characteristic signs that indicate problems with this design:

  1. The door began to rest against the threshold - a sign of sagging canvas. At the same time, along with the sash, the threshold itself wears out. Repairs should be carried out as soon as minor changes appear.
  2. The lock does not always snap into place, and it is not easy to achieve a snug fit of the sash to the frame. This indicates the need to adjust the pressure.
  3. A gap appears through which heat loss occurs due to leaky docking of the door leaf and frame. In such a situation, the sash microlifts, which are located in the hinges, are subject to adjustment.
  4. Door closing is incomplete. Such a violation is caused by distortions, which causes the destruction of the seal, the formation of kinks and deformation changes in the door hinges. The problem is signaled by its displacement, noticeable upon close examination.

The main condition for proper repair and adjustment is the exact location of the fault.

Define the problem

The sagging of the frame can be judged after such a simple test: the closed sash should be circled around the contour with a marker. Deviations of the outlines from the horizontal and vertical - a signal to start adjustment. If the doors open tightly and there is a draft from them, this is a reason to start urgent repairs or adjustments.

Another informative test is carried out as follows: when closing the door, insert a sheet of paper. If the sheet can be pulled out with some effort, then there is no need to adjust the plastic door. Free stretching of the sheet indicates a lack of tight fit in this area.

The cause of the shift of the canvas is temperature changes and deformations. Therefore, the sash touches the frame in the middle. The wear of the seal is the reason for the violation of the tightness of the doors, which is the reason for the regular renewal of the material. Replacing the seal should always precede adjustment.

Poor handle function and blade misalignment indicate the need for adjustment or repair. Common problems with a plastic door are as follows:

  • loosening of hinge fasteners;
  • the sealing material does not fit snugly against the canvas or frame;
  • the sash sags due to its weight.

A careful study of the condition of the sealant should be carried out before starting work. Depressions are the result of pressure in this area of the sagging sash. A complete replacement of the seal is carried out with its strong deformation.

What tools are required

To adjust the entrance plastic door, it is better to choose the following set of tools:

  1. pliers;
  2. special plastic gaskets (set);
  3. screwdrivers with tips in the form of a cross and a minus;
  4. a set of hex keys in the shape of the letter G (2.5-5 mm).

Instruction

You should check the compliance of your actions with the recommendations contained in the manual at all stages of work. When adjusting the entrance plastic doors yourself according to the instructions, you must strictly follow the specified sequence. When installing, it is desirable to control the horizontal and vertical position of the sash using the building level.

Execution rules

  • Prepare all the necessary equipment in advance.
  • Remove decorative caps.
  • Turn the key in a clockwise direction, unless otherwise indicated on the screw.
  • Work is carried out in a horizontal plane.
  • When replacing or repairing the seal, the adjustment is carried out in the vertical direction.

Adjustment of plastic doors does not require professionalism, it can be performed by anyone who has carefully studied the instructions.

Horizontal setting

Adjustment of the plastic front door is required when the canvas sags. At a door that is difficult to adjust, it is required to loosen all horizontal fasteners and start the adjustment again, tightening all the fasteners evenly in turn. The change in the position of the canvas serves as a guide. Work is carried out with the sash open in the following sequence:

  1. Unscrew the screws of the upper hinges.
  2. Close the sash and remove the lining from the hinges that cover the adjusting screws.
  3. Debugging is carried out in a horizontal position, it begins with the adjustment of the longest fastener.
  4. If there is a misalignment, long screws are tightened in loops from above and in the center. In the upper loop, the screw is tightened more strongly.

vertical

If there is friction of the sash near the threshold or there is a dent on the seals, then a vertical adjustment is required. It is carried out by adjusting the screw located vertically in the loop.

To start the adjustment, you should take a 5 mm hexagon, insert into the screw hole and rotate. If the door needs to be raised, then the rotation is carried out clockwise, if lowered, then against.

Press force adjustment

In case of insufficient fit of the sash to the frame, it is necessary to carry out adjustment using a screw located inside the door. Sometimes, to correct a defect, it is enough to tighten the screws located in the lower or upper hinges more strongly. With this setting, the loops are loosened or tightened. The result is evaluated experimentally when closing. If the seal is badly worn, it needs to be replaced. Using a screwdriver, the old seal is removed, and its replacement is installed. Then the adjustment is repeated.

Handle setting

A frequent complaint of the owners is a broken door handle, and the appearance of drafts is a direct consequence of the malfunction of this part of the door block. The most common failures are:

  • Loose handles. The pad installed at the junction of the frame with the handle is turned perpendicularly, gaining access to the screws. The defect is corrected by tightening the existing screws with a screwdriver.
  • Incomplete or tight turning of the handle occurs when the canvas is displaced. After bringing the door to its normal position, the handle will function well. If, after adjustment, the condition has not improved, the handle must be replaced.
  • If the locking mechanism of the lock fails, the repair comes down to replacing its broken part or buying a lock.

Sag adjustment

The entrance plastic door can sag over time, depressurize and let cold air into the room. Malfunctions are indicated by its displacement relative to the frame, due to gravity. Sagging adjustment is carried out as follows:

  1. With a 3 mm hex wrench, the screws are unscrewed from the two loops on top. During this, the sash must be open.
  2. After closing the sash, you need to remove the lining from the adjustment screws. This provides access to the longest screw, which has a horizontal arrangement.
  3. It needs to be unscrewed in loops in the middle and on top. Stronger tightening is carried out in the upper loop.
  4. To ensure uniform movement of the door leaf, you can do this: loosen or tighten the screws in all hinges.

Correction when touching the edge in the middle part

In this case, the main task is to carry out the adjustment by moving the canvas as close to the hinges as possible. To do this, the sash is taken away first in the lower loop, and then in the upper one. It is enough to adjust the plastic front door once a season. In most cases, there is no need to repeat the procedure.

If a dent or other damage is noticeable on the upper seals, it is recommended to replace the seal, especially when the heating season is close.

To prevent the occurrence of problems, it makes sense to install an opening limiter, which removes part of the load and prevents the door from impact contact with the slopes of the opening. This measure will avoid breakage of locking mechanisms and handles. The installation of a microlift is especially important in the presence of double-glazed windows and prevents sagging. Microlifts perceive a share of the load, being an additional support.

Adjustment of entrance plastic doors

No matter how correctly and efficiently the installation of a plastic front door is carried out, after some time it will be necessary to adjust it. For this, it is not necessary to invite masters - this task is quite within the power of a home craftsman.

Where to begin

Before starting work, it is important to determine what exactly the malfunction is.

There can be several reasons for adjusting the door:

  • she began to sag under her own weight;
  • poorly pressed against the seal;
  • loose hinges.

Usually, the problem is indicated by difficult closing of the door and poor operation of the handle.

It is important to remember that before you adjust the fittings yourself, you need to make sure that the warranty period for the door has expired.

Tools and how to adjust them

So, for work, you need to stock up on the following tools:

  • cross and flat screwdrivers;
  • hex keys of different sizes;
  • tape measure;
  • pliers;
  • gaskets for plastic products;
  • It's good to have instructions handy.

It will be possible to adjust the following mechanisms:

Fundamental rules

To adjust the doors qualitatively, it is necessary to strictly observe the rules required in the process of work.

All steps must be performed sequentially so that later there are no unpleasant moments.

Vertical adjustment

There are cases when the door can cling exclusively to the lower part, that is, to the threshold. If this happens along its entire length, it means that the door just slid. There is no distortion here. To fix the problem, the door is simply lifted. In cases where a poor-quality installation was originally made, or a transformation occurred due to the effects of temperature changes, the door is simply lowered a little.

The screw with which the adjustment is made should be vertical, and its head should be at the bottom of the loop.

When it is tightened, the door rises, if it is weakened, then vice versa.

Horizontal adjustment

When the door sags, it is skewed. For this reason, when closing or opening, it begins to cling to the upper vertical post of the box. Rubbing of its edge along the entire length may also occur.

In the first case, the adjustment lies in the fact that the door is pressed against the hinge post only at the top, and in the second case, this is done along the entire length of the post.

To make horizontal adjustment, the longest screw is used, which is also located horizontally. When it is tightened, the door begins to move towards the hinge post.

To eliminate the skew only due to sagging on the upper loop, the screw must be tightened strongly, and on the middle loop - a little weaker. If the skew occurred due to temperature effects, then all three loops are regulated evenly.

Pressure adjustment

When the pressing of the sash to the frame is not tight, then the position of the metal regulators, which are located on the end side of the leaf, is replaced. They can be round or oval in shape.

Depending on the type of eccentrics, they can be turned both by hand and using a hexagon.

To achieve a weakening of the pressure on the front door, the oval-shaped regulator is placed in a vertical position, to increase the contact force it is placed horizontally.

To obtain an average degree of pressure, so that normal functioning is carried out, the eccentric is set diagonally.

If the regulators are round, then they must be moved up or down from the rubber seal. The closer the distance from the frame, the tighter the clamp will be.

A sheet of paper is used to control the force and degree of pressure. It is placed between the frame and the sash. If the sheet is held tightly and does not fall off, then all the settings have been made correctly.

Visually about adjusting the plastic door on the video:

Handle setting

This is perhaps one of the simplest tasks when adjusting a plastic front door, which you can solve on your own.

Often problems with the handle arise only because of its loosening.

The instruction is quite simple:

  • turn the plastic latch (cap) ninety degrees;
  • the screws exposed as a result of this are tightened with a screwdriver. Here it is important to watch the body of the handle, which should not be damaged;
  • The last step is verification. If after all the steps taken, the problem has not been eliminated, then there is damage in the form of cracks on the case. In this case, the adjustment consists in the complete replacement of the handle.

Lock adjustment

The actions that are necessary in the event of a lock repair depend entirely on the severity of the breakdown. If only some separate part of the mechanism fails, it is easy to replace it with a new one, which can be purchased at a specialized store. If the entire locking mechanism breaks down, it is recommended to completely replace it.

Adjustment of plastic doors

How to adjust a plastic door yourself

Perfect and precise design metal-plastic door, but it also begins to function poorly. In the case of wooden doors, in addition to hinges, this can be caused by deformation of the leaf or box itself, plastic doors begin to “act up” solely due to a malfunction of the mechanism. How to adjust the plastic door with your own hands, we will understand in detail.

Possible problems

A normally installed and functioning door should open and close easily, the frame should not be rubbed in the alignment, and the adjoining should be uniform along the perimeter. An open door in the absence of drafts must be in a stable position.

The clamping mechanism is obliged to "bring" the door without a gap between it and the box. It is easy to check - a sheet of paper sandwiched between the door porch and the box should be pulled out along the entire length of the porch with some effort.
Failure to meet any condition means that the geometry is broken.

The plastic balcony door sagged or the sash moved relative to the frame. All defects are corrected by adjusting the fittings.

If the warranty period has not yet expired

then this should be done by the service department of the company that installed the door. Otherwise, you can call the wizard. But modern designs are good because, with instructions, self-adjustment of plastic doors is quite within the power of anyone and requires a minimum set of tools for this - hex keys, screwdrivers and pliers.

This article discusses the most common cases of adjusting swing plastic entrance (interior) and balcony doors.

Pendulum or sliding systems have their own methods.

Adjustment of a plastic door with three hinges: entrance

The entrances differ from the interior ones in the thickness of the profile and the double-glazed window, but their hinges are similar. And from the balcony differences are more significant. This is both the type of hinges and the absence of a folding mechanism (for ventilation). Let's figure out how to adjust a plastic door with three hinges on your own.

Usually, three hinges are installed on such doors - upper and lower, and the third one can stand next to the top or in the middle of the leaf. In principle, this is the usual arrangement and the number of hinges so that they normally “hold” the weight of the door. Differences may be in the design of the loop and the clamping mechanism, and therefore in the adjustment.

Applied door hinge (like greenteQ TB 100.ZD.K)

This hinge has a decorative strip and is adjustable in three planes.

Horizontal and vertical shifting takes place with the help of two screws, and the pressure is adjusted with a screw and a bar between the hinge and the box.

1. To adjust skew:

Adjustment of plastic doors relative to the vertical axis horizontally (left-right), it is necessary to remove the decorative strip on the hinge installed on the canvas. First you need to open the door and unscrew the screw that holds this bar. Then the door is closed and the bar is removed. Below it are 6 fixing screws for a screwdriver (perpendicular to the blade) and one adjusting screw for a hexagon - parallel to the blade towards the hinge.

By screwing it in or out, you can adjust the door offset relative to the vertical by 5 mm in each direction along the X axis.

2. To raise (and even lower)

sash use a turnkey adjusting screw located at the bottom end of the hinge. It is closed with another decorative strip, which simply “unfastens”.

They can raise the door by 4 mm or lower it by 1 mm, relative to the factory setting in the Y axis.

3. Plastic door adjustment: fine pressure adjustment

(within 1.5 mm) is carried out using a screw located at the upper end of the loop.

For a “rough” adjustment, it is necessary to remove the door from the hinges, and then the part of the hinge that is installed on the box. It is attached to it through strips, which can have a thickness of 1 mm to 5 mm. In this way, you can further adjust the door pressure (along the Z axis).

Door hinge type WX

has horizontal adjustment up to 6.2 mm, vertical adjustment up to 4 mm, the clamp can be adjusted with a screw up to 1.8 mm (if necessary, the clamp can be improved with additional bushings at the place where the hinge is attached to the box).

1. Horizontal adjustment is carried out with the help of a side screw located under the decorative trim on the hinge, which is attached to the door. First, you need to unscrew the screw that fixes the position of the hinge relative to the "0" level. It is located in the hinge body and runs parallel to the door leaf. Then you need to unscrew the screw that locks the outer decorative hinge body, by shifting which you can access the adjusting screw.

With it, you can move the position of the sash to the right or left.

2. The pressure adjustment takes place on the counterpart of the hinge (fixed on the door frame). It is necessary to remove the decorative cap from the end of the hinge. Under it you can see an eccentric with slots.

In order to release it, it is necessary to unscrew the locking screw (it is located on the side of the hinge body on the door side). Then, using a special key inserted into the slots of the eccentric, it is necessary to turn it to the required angle and lock it. In this way, you can increase or decrease the pressure.

You can use a regular plate or a wide flat screwdriver, but the vertical adjustment screw will interfere. In this case, it must be completely unscrewed.

3. The vertical adjustment is carried out with the help of a screw screwed into the loop from below, through the clamping adjusting eccentric.

How to adjust a plastic balcony door

Adjustment of plastic doors follows the same algorithm as that of a plastic window. Each manufacturer of fittings may have differences in the methods of adjustment, but in many respects they are similar.

Adjustment of plastic doors horizontally (X axis) to the right or left can be done using two screws in the lower and upper hinges (depending on which part of the door “wipes”).

Both screws are visible when the sash is open. The lower one is located in the supporting part of the hinge on the box.

The top one is in the opposite part of the hinge on the sash.

By tightening or unscrewing the screw, you can achieve displacement of the sash from the box or towards it.

Vertical adjustment (Y-axis) is carried out using a screw located in the lower hinge behind the decorative strip, on the outside of the door on the sash itself.

It is located at the end. By screwing it in or unscrewing it, the door is raised or lowered.

The pressure is adjusted by turning the eccentrics located in the vertical end of the door leaf.

First you need to find out in which part the clamp is too loose or strong. Eccentrics "work" in tandem with locking plates on the box. If the eccentric is located along the sash - the pressure is minimal, perpendicularly - maximum. Turn the eccentric with pliers.

Another type of door pressure adjustment is carried out not with the help of eccentrics, but with the help of a locking pin at the end of the leaf.

It has a hole for a hex key and a control point (risk). Depending on the position of this point, the pressure may be stronger or weaker. Adjustment of plastic doors and plastic window adjustment very similar.

There is a third type of pressure adjustment, which occurs with the help of a reciprocal (locking) plate located on the box itself. It can move relative to the box, thereby strengthening and weakening the adjoining door.

In addition, you can adjust the plastic door of the balcony not only from the side of the hinges and eccentrics, but also adjust the pressure from the side of the folding mechanism.

First you need to fold the open sash.

But the mechanism itself does not allow turning the handle up with the sash open. To remove the fixation of the handle, it is necessary to press the "tongue" (flag, clip) at the end of the door, in the area of the handle itself.

It may look different, but it has the same principle of operation - when closed, the sash presses it and unlocks the handle, which can be turned up, setting the door for ventilation. If you open the door and press the “tongue” with your hand, then the door in this state can be folded up at the top. But at the same time, it is better to keep it on weight - after all, it will stay down at one point on the bottom loop.

The inner part of the mechanism of the upper fittings will open (usually the door “closes” it). There will be one (or two) eccentrics with hex adjusting screws.

With the help of them, you can press (or squeeze) the door in the area of \u200b\u200bthe hinges.

Having pressed the “tongue”, the sash is returned to the vertical state, after which the door can be closed.

These are the main methods for adjusting the mechanisms of different types of doors.

Attracting the services of a professional master is not very cheap, so you should resort to this option as a last resort. After reading a short instruction, you yourself will be able to understand how to adjust the plastic balcony door. Saving money will please the family budget, and pride in the work done independently will strengthen self-confidence.

The balcony door periodically needs to be adjusted, detailed instructions later in the article

The main details of the plastic door

Any design incorporates basic and auxiliary parts (see Figure No. 1). Before starting the setup, it is imperative that you familiarize yourself with the device of the mechanism. It is important to correctly understand how the fittings used in the design work.

Standard composition of parts of a plastic balcony door (Figure No. 1)

Doors usually include:

  • PVC profiles connected with fasteners and forming a frame;
  • sash made in the same way as the frame;
  • loops on which the canvas is held;
  • a handle and a latch used to close, open and switch to the ventilation mode;
  • rubber seals for reliable tightness;
  • double glazing.

Should know! The list of main and auxiliary parts may vary due to the presence of various functions. The main assembly is equipped with closers, stoppers, etc.

Fault Prevention

Before you start adjusting plastic door fittings, you should explore prevention methods that will help reduce or completely avoid the need for adjustment. They consist in proper operation and the right choice of working parts.

While at the purchase stage, make sure that the weight of the sash is commensurate with the load that the closing mechanisms can withstand. Many types of fittings can withstand a door weight of 100-150 kg. Check the specifications to make sure you're making the right choice.

If the sash is open, try not to jerk it sharply. Careless handling of the system will require very frequent adjustment or repair with the replacement of parts.

Some sashes are heavy and require a sag compensator. It looks like a lever or a specially shaped roller.

Balcony door adjustment

Adjusting the plastic door in different directions (Picture No. 2)

Self-adjustment of plastic door parts is based on a specific problem. There are several of them: poor clamping of the sash, its sagging, unsteadiness of the handle, displacement of the landing level. Having understood what problem you have to solve, take the necessary tools: screwdrivers and hexagons.

Pressure adjustment

The pressure density should be adjusted depending on the transition to a warm or cold season. The frequency of such a procedure requires studying the instructions for self-adjusting plastic doors by each owner.

Table of door pressure adjustment values (Figure No. 3)

Take a sheet of paper, put it between the sash and the frame, so you check the tightness of the pressure. A sheet of paper, after closing the window with a pen, should not be pulled out. If its free movement occurs, then the sash must be adjusted. First, look for locking mechanisms on the structure, they affect the pressure density. Take a key or pliers to work, rotate the constipation until you reach a sufficient degree of clamping.

The eccentrics should be adjusted if the plastic door to the balcony does not close tightly. Pick up the hexes of the right size, pliers may also be required. Adjust the rear part using the screws on the hinges. An instruction with their exact location is issued along with the fittings, but even in its absence there should be no problems.

Pin Adjustment (Figure #4)

Leaf force adjustment (Figure No. 5)

Increasing the pressure density of the front part is carried out by rotating the trunnion (see Figure No. 4-5) in one direction, and weakening - in the other. Focus on a special notch, it is on all types of fittings. In this way, you can press the door more tightly in winter and loosen it in summer.

Adjustment of the door when rubbing against the edges of the frame

If there is a shift in the landing level of the door, it begins to rub against the edges of the frame. To fix this, you need to adjust the bolts in the hinges. Typically, the door is mounted on three latches, which allows you to adjust it in three directions (see Figure No. 2):

  1. horizontally- the distance between the box and the canvas is set from the side of the loops;
  2. vertically- the height of the canvas in relation to the box is adjusted;
  3. frontally– adjustable pressure to the sealing rubber bands.

Fully open the door, unscrew the fasteners that fix the decorative closing strip. Then close the door and remove the decorative element from the fixing points. You should be able to access the bolt that defines the tilt in the horizontal plane. The horizontal is set by adjusting all the loops. If the door sags, it is enough to tighten the two bolts from above and below so that the vertical becomes normal.

Loose handle

The most common problem concerns the closing handle. Loosening occurs during hard operation, sharp turns, not fully tightened bolts. Also, do not hang bags and other heavy objects on the handle. In addition to loosening, this can lead to skew of the entire window. The profile frame itself is not light, and the additional load on it is highly undesirable.

The photo shows how to turn the plastic cover (Figure No. 6)

You can get to the mounting bolts by turning the plastic cap at the base of the handle a quarter of a turn (see figure #6). Tighten loose bolts and check operation. If this was not enough, there may be a crack on the part. Carefully inspect the material, if damage is found, the handle will have to be changed.

There are times when the opposite happens - the handle moves too tight. The problem can be solved if you lubricate the lock with a special mixture. Be careful not to contain acid or resin. Also, the cause may be the wrong location of the door in the opening. Adjust the position as described above.

Additional Information

It makes sense to adjust the door pressure only if the seal is not worn out. Otherwise, without installing a new rubber gasket, it will not be possible to normally adjust this parameter.

Replacing the door seal (Figure No. 7)

Pull out the old gasket with your hands (see Figure No. 7), clean the groove from dust and other small items. Take a new seal and mount it in place. Keep in mind that the side bend should be located on the end side of the sash. The easiest way is to remove the door and do the installation, so you get easy access from the side of the hinges. It is better to buy a sealant from the same company as the profiles.

The seal is inserted from the top

You can increase the life of the seal with a silicone compound. Lubricate the entire surface of the rubber with it to protect it from drying out. Elastic rubber does not crack when deformed, remains intact for a long time.

Removing the door from the hinges

A home craftsman who maintains mechanisms on his own should know how to remove a plastic door from its hinges. You may need to perform this task in various situations. Correct removal will help to avoid damage to the fittings and the door as a whole.

First, let's decide on the type of loops (click to enlarge the photo):

The design features of plastic doors are not much different from the entrance ones. The box is installed in the doorway, one part of the hinges is fixed on it. A part is fixed to the door leaf. The number of loops is 3-4 pieces, to ensure a uniform load.

The distance from each other is the same. The top and bottom are set along the line of the box. With the help of decorative elements, the loops are closed from view. This achieves the integrity and attractiveness of the appearance of the structure.

Reasons for dismantling

Often, removal is required during repairs in a room, when replacing or adjusting a plastic balcony door. Let us consider in more detail the cases in which dismantling may be required:

  1. The need for adjustment. Some parts break and require adjustment, it is easier to perform this process with the door removed.
  2. Replacement of parts or canvas. If a part is broken beyond repair, it must be completely replaced. In this case, you can not do without dismantling. Replacing the canvas will require the same steps.
  3. Safety during renovation. Serious repairs can pose a threat to the integrity of the door. In this case, it can be covered, but even better - removed.
  4. It may be necessary to remove the canvas when the dimensions of the furniture do not allow it to be brought into the room. This will help to slightly expand the available passage.

Whatever the reason, the canvas must be removed without damage, and just as carefully put in place.

Instructions for removing balcony doors

Removal of doors occurs in several stages. Let's take a closer look at each of them:

  • Removing decorative elements. The first step is to gain access to the loops. Close the door without turning the handle, pry the cover with a blunt object so as not to damage the plastic and gently bend it.
  • Separating hinge elements. Press on the top of the loop, this will push the center pin down. Pull it out completely using pliers.
  • Removing the door. Take the canvas from both sides, tilt it towards you a little and pull it up. This should untie the loops. It is better to perform the procedure together, since the design will be quite heavy.

Conclusion

Many owners of apartments and houses have switched to the use of double-glazed windows, given their durability, ease of use, and good heat retention. Any self-respecting head of the family should understand how to adjust faulty plastic balcony doors. Such designs are used on balconies, loggias, for access to the courtyard of a private house. Self-tuning will save money, make the transition to the winter and summer periods on time, and avoid poor-quality service from third-party masters. Before starting work, carefully study the manual so as not to spoil the details. After making the adjustment several times, you will not experience difficulties in the future.

User poll

Did you manage to solve the problem yourself with the help of our article?

Adjustment of plastic doors is extremely rarely required, provided that such structures were correctly installed initially. In most cases, the need for tuning is due to the formation of a natural imbalance in their mechanisms during long-term operation.

Plastic doors - what to check after installation?

Experts recommend ordering plastic (PVC) structures only from those manufacturers that have positive feedback from consumers and are recognizable in the building materials market. Poor-quality products, even with the most careful attitude, will quickly fail and bring you a lot of trouble. They will have to be constantly repaired and, in the end, still acquire new designs.

Also, special attention should be paid to the installation process of the purchased doors. Master installers must perform the correct initial adjustment of the structure installed between rooms, at the entrance, on the balcony. Upon acceptance of the assembled door, check:

  1. 1. The tightness of the door frame and the frame of the structure to be installed. If the product sits like a glove, then everything is done correctly. The fit must be uniform and tight in all areas of contact.
  2. 2. Vertical mounting accuracy. The door must open and close without any serious physical effort on the part of the user.
  3. 3. The presence of drafts. Open the structure halfway, wait a couple of minutes. In situations where the door spontaneously closes or swings open, we are talking about improper installation. Require proper adjustment of the product.

Common Causes of PVC Structure Failures

Setting up plastic doors on your own allows you to eliminate basic problems. The latter usually arise due to the fact that the moving parts of the products of interest to us get lost during operation. This leads to a change in the location of the PVC construction web in relation to the door frame. Frequent malfunctions of plastic doors are due to the following phenomena. Firstly, by rubbing the canvas in the handle area or slightly above this area. A similar problem arises due to temperature deformations. Especially often it is observed during the operation of balcony and entrance doors.

Secondly, by rubbing the canvas along the threshold (that is, below). Many consumers believe that this phenomenon is due to the poor quality of the product. But this is not true. It's just that during installation, the adjusting screws of the mechanism were not fully tightened or not tight enough. Also, rubbing often occurs when the door is heavy (for example, if you installed heavy double-glazed windows on it). Excessive weight leads to sagging of the structure.

Thirdly, due to the loss of tightness by the door block. The problem is due to an insufficiently tight fit of the structure to the box or a change in the position of a special roller in the door structure. The described problems are easy to solve on your own, without calling the masters and paying for their far from cheap services. In addition, the PVC door on the balcony, the entrance to the house, between its individual rooms can be adjusted on its own and in the presence of other difficulties with its operation. More on this later.

When to Perform Immediate Adjustment

Adjustment of balcony and plastic doors installed at the entrance to the building is carried out immediately if they pass cold air in the closed state, as well as in the following cases:

  • opening the product requires the application of tangible physical effort;
  • the door is not kept closed when the locking mechanism is open;
  • the lock handle is loose or turns very tight;
  • the design clings to the box when slammed.

These phenomena indicate that the door needs to be urgently adjusted. If you do not immediately do this, after a short period of time you will not be able to use it fully. And then it will not be necessary to regulate the structure, but to carry out its full repair, which will require serious financial costs. In some cases, running doors even have to be replaced with new ones. Also, adjustment of a plastic balcony door is also necessary in case of implicit violations in its functionality.

Specialists advise to independently check the condition of the structure every 6–12 months using simple techniques. Take a regular sheet from a school notebook. Put it in the middle of the threshold and close the door. The paper sheet should be tightly clamped by the canvas. After that, pull the paper out from under the door and pay attention to the effort applied to complete this operation. Then put the sheet under the other part of the opening. Pull it out again and so on. If the applied force in all areas is the same, there is nothing to worry about. The structure is in good condition. If in one section the leaf is easily pulled out, and in the other - with great difficulty, then the position of the door in relation to the box has changed. PVC product customization required.

The second way to check is a bit more complicated. You need to arm yourself with a simple pencil and stand in front of the door from the opposite side in the direction of its opening. Then slam the construction shut, outline its perimeter along the edge of the box using a pencil. Open the door and look at the received lines. In cases where they are strictly parallel to the edges of the canvas, everything is fine. If there is no parallelism, you need to figure out how to adjust the plastic door, and proceed with this operation.

Regardless of the results of the check, be sure to adjust the pressure of the structure after the winter, and also before the onset of cold weather. In the spring, the clamping mechanism should be slightly loosened, and in the fall, it should be strengthened. Then the elements of the block will wear out significantly more slowly, which will increase the period of trouble-free operation of the plastic product.

Adjustment options - horizontal and vertical

Plastic structures are adjusted in horizontal, frontal and vertical directions. All operations are performed with the help of simple devices and working tools. Stock up on pliers, screwdrivers (flat and Phillips), tape measure, PVC gaskets, hexagons (it is advisable to have a complete set of such keys with various types of profiles).

Horizontal adjustment of plastic entrance and other types of doors makes it possible to choose the size of the gap between the hinge support and the leaf. A special element, a screw, is responsible for opening to the left or right. It is usually hidden under a special lining that covers the adjustment part we need. When, when closing, the PVC door rubs against the box (along the entire height or only in the middle part) from the side where the locking mechanism is installed, the problem is solved elementarily. Lifting the balcony door with your own hands is done as follows:

  • Open the plastic structure, unscrew the screws from all the loops with a 3 mm hexagon. Get access to decorative elements.
  • Remove the lining (before that you need to slam the door).
  • You can see the adjusting screws in front of you. Turn them clockwise (number of turns - 1-2). It is necessary to turn the screws on all hinges by the same number of turns!
  • If the sagging of the door is noted only in the lower left or right corner of the canvas, only the middle and upper loops should be twisted. You don't need to touch the bottom.

Vertical adjustment allows you to choose the optimal height of the plastic structure in relation to the box. Such adjustment is carried out when it is necessary to lower or raise the entire door. The operation is performed by means of screws, which are located at the ends of the (lower) hinges. The adjusting parts are directed along the axis of the latter. On PVC entrance doors, as a rule, the screws are closed with a plug. It needs to be dismantled. The screws are rotated by a 5 mm hexagon. When the adjusting part is turned clockwise, the door structure moves up, against - down.

To adjust the strikers (elements at the bottom and top of the box), a 2.5 mm hex wrench is used. But in this case, you will additionally have to use screwdrivers. They make it possible to move the strikers.

We adjust the position of the clamp using different parts

Frontal adjustment is used when it is necessary to adjust the pressure. This procedure is carried out in different ways, depending on the design features of the plastic product. Pressure adjustment can be made:

  1. 1. Eccentrics. They are mounted on the end of the canvas (in relation to the hinges - on the opposite side). It is necessary to turn the eccentrics to ensure the required pressure.
  2. 2. Pin. This item is on the door hardware. The pin is adjusted with pliers. If you want to loosen the clamp, it is turned strictly parallel to the plane of the door. Use pliers carefully to avoid damaging the part. To increase the pressure, the trunnion is rotated perpendicularly.
  3. 3. Reciprocal level. Under it is a screw for a hexagon of a certain profile. You need to move the bar and conjure with the adjusting element. Check the pressure level after each turn of the screw.

With long-term operation of plastic doors, it becomes more and more difficult to configure them with screws every time. At one point, you will see that the adjusting parts are set to their extreme positions. There is simply nowhere to turn them. In these situations, try adjusting the door with the plastic shims.

Gently pry off the glazing beads that fix the double-glazed window in the door product with a regular chisel. Dismantle them. With small spatulas (sold in building stores), insert PVC gaskets between the canvas and the double-glazed window, thereby changing the geometry of the door. We must say right away that it is difficult to perform such a procedure on your own. It is necessary to select the thickness of the gaskets up to a millimeter and, in addition, know the exact place where they need to be mounted. Dismantled glazing beads must be marked. They must be put back in the same places where they were. When installing glazing beads, use a rubberized hammer. This tool will allow you to accurately knock out fasteners.

Replacing the seal and adjusting the handle - do it right

If the door structure is used skewed for a long time, this is guaranteed to lead to deformation of the seal. Instructions for replacing the latter are given below:

  1. 1. Get a new seal. Pay attention to the shape of its section. It must be similar to the previously used product.
  2. 2. Using a screwdriver, take out the failed seal.
  3. 3. Clean the freed groove from the remnants of the adhesive and dirt. Treat it with glue.
  4. 4. Mount the new sealing product. It should freely, without the slightest stretch, sit in the groove.

PVC door handles often become loose during operation. Also, they may not turn completely or go very tight. We will deal with loose handles without difficulty. Dismantle the overlay, which closes the fixation area of the locking mechanism to the web. You will see two fasteners in front of you (usually screws). They should be slightly tightened with a screwdriver (Phillips). After such an operation, the pen will again work flawlessly.

Other defects in the locking device in most cases occur due to misalignment of the door. As a rule, after adjusting the canvas according to the methods that we discussed above, the handle begins to function normally. If the adjustment of the PVC construction did not solve the problem with constipation (it still does not close well), you will have to change it.

How to prevent malfunctions in the operation of plastic doors

If you want to configure PVC structures as little as possible, pay special attention to the fittings installed on the door. The mechanisms of the latter should easily withstand loads of up to 120-130 kg. Then you will not think for a very long time how to tighten the door, and figure out why it does not close well. Cheap fittings (in particular, Chinese) are not designed for the specified loads. Its strength limit is 80–90 kg. Naturally, it quickly fails.

In addition, the presence of two important options in it is of great importance for the trouble-free operation of plastic doors - an opening limiter and a microlift. PVC structures are not initially equipped with these devices. They must be ordered separately before installing the plastic product. The opening limiter is a kind of tire. It takes on some of the weight of the door. This significantly reduces the risk of sagging of the plastic web. With proper initial adjustment, the limiter eliminates the possibility of the door hitting the slopes, due to which the period of trouble-free operation of the fittings increases by 2–5 times.

On heavy doors (entrance, balcony), equipped with double-glazed windows with two chambers, it is recommended to install a microlift. This device counteracts the sagging of the canvas, which is in the closed state. The microlift, in its essence, is an additional support element that takes on some of the loads. Structurally, it is made in the form of a roller or a plate of a movable type. They are mounted in the lower part of the door leaf or in its end face.
