How to hang a flower pot outside. Outdoor hanging planters for flowers: making compositions with your own hands. Hanging flowers in the garden: which plants are suitable for hanging flower beds

Flower pots are quite popular, and you can find a lot of instructions for making them on the net. In one of ours, we already told you how to make hanging flower pots with your own hands, today we offer you a different approach. There is no need to make pots themselves, we offer completely ordinary flower pots to turn them into hanging pots.

Materials and tools for making hanging flower pots:

  • 3 small flower pots with planted plants
  • skein of thin clothesline
  • 15 raw wooden beads, approx. 18 mm in diameter
  • 9 wooden beads with a diameter of 25 mm
  • 11 beads with a diameter of 38 mm
  • ¼" copper tubing
  • pipe cutter
  • acrylic paint
  • tassel

DIY hanging flower pots

Paint the beads in different colors. If you want the paint to lay down in an even layer, the beads can first be sanded with sandpaper.

Advice: The easiest way to dry the beads is by putting them on a wire.

A rather interesting effect is obtained if the beads for each pot are painted in different shades of the same color.

Pull two strings through each group of beads. In our case, for the manufacture of each pot, six ropes were used, tied at the top into a knot.

The beads can be placed in any order. In our case, their diameter first increases and then decreases.

Decide on the height at which you want to fix the wooden beads, and tie a knot in this place on each pair of ropes.

Divide each pair of ropes, and knot the left rope of the first pair with the right rope of the second. In the same way, tie all six ropes in pairs. Repeat the procedure again, moving down.

Tie all three pairs of ropes in one knot, cut off the ends of the ropes, or leave them as they are.

By the same principle, we make a second hanging pot.

Cut the copper pipe into pieces about 70 mm long.

Alternating multi-colored wooden beads and pieces of copper tube, decorate each pair of ropes. In this case, it is better to use small beads so that their diameter is not much larger than the diameter of the tubes.

Secure the beads and tubes with knots.

Separate each of the pairs of ropes and tie them with ropes from adjacent pairs. Repeat the same, moving down slightly. Tie all the ropes into one knot.

In each of the resulting rope sleeves, place a flower pot. Now it remains only to hang the pots in the window or doorway, decorate the veranda or living room with them.

It is not necessary to use wooden beads and copper tubes to decorate hanging pots, it all depends on your imagination.

Original article in English.

Sooner or later, but in the life of many flower growers the question arises: “Where to put ?! The place is over!" Indeed, green pets have filled all available places and planes, and they threaten to evict the owners from their legally occupied beds. Households shout indignantly that the plants could be smaller, but who will listen to them? How can you refuse cacti, violets, ficuses and other beauties cherished with such labor and love? And you don’t have to refuse, because relatives are making noise, most likely just for show, while they themselves secretly admire the green kingdom and proudly tell their friends: “We have such a monstera! Half a room!” and casually examine the less well-groomed specimens of these acquaintances.

However, the reaction of others still does not solve the problem of the place, and here you have to call on your imagination and skillful hands to help. It's good if the hands are from the place where you need them, and with fantasy order. And if not, we will try to help with imagination in this article, and skillful hands, I'm sure, will be found by someone from the male half of your large family.

On the Internet you can find a lot of ideas for creating all sorts of walls, shelves and stands, but in this article we will consider exactly those that are located directly on the window. This will solve the problem with lighting without additional lighting, and it will not require extra space in an already crowded house.

Ampel plants on the window

For this option, we need several anchors with a hook, select the diameter depending on the estimated weight. I think 6 mm will be enough (anchors for an 8mm drill are used in the photo). We drill holes with a drill or puncher in the upper slope of the window, insert the anchor. Anchor - from the word anchor, is a metal hook, with a spacer at the opposite end. It is inserted into the drilled hole and twisted around the hook clockwise. In this case, the spacer mechanism expands and tightly, like an anchor, is held in the hole. On such a hook, unlike a self-tapping screw on a dowel, you can even hang a swing.

So, it's done! It remains to hang pots with plants. This accommodation option is suitable if you have both wooden and plastic windows. Designed primarily for ampelous plants, but in conditions of acute shortage of space, any small plants can be planted in hanging pots. For example, I have a cryptanthus growing in such a pot, although it is not an ampelous plant at all, a herbivore cat cannot reach it in a hanging pot.

Thus, plants can be hung on anchors above the window and in the immediate vicinity of the window, if drilled in the ceiling (ceiling ceilings are always concrete, so only drill with a hammer drill). If you do not have anchors, you can use self-tapping screws with dowels or hooks with dowels, you can hang a string or a planter chain on them, but the hook is more reliable - the rope will not fly off it just like that.

Shelf for flowers on ribbons

We call it a student. The idea arose while living in a student dormitory, where this model was quite easily created by fragile girls to accommodate the state stock of cosmetics. After it was modernized and implemented already for plants.

We will need a board that is slightly less than the width of your window, but it is better to use 10mm thick plywood. You will also need several meters of a fabric belt (also called a harness, used to make reins and other household needs) and 4-8 self-tapping screws. This option is only suitable for windows with wooden frames.

Calculating the length of harness you need is very simple. Either empirically, or according to the formula 2SHD + 4VP + 10 cm, where SD is the width of the board, VP is the height from the attachment point to the shelf. We divide our tape in half and cut it. We fold it in half and fasten the ends of the harness to the frame with 2-4 screws. After that, we lay the board on the obtained loops, observing its horizontal position. Everything, you can put flowers. Of course, the appearance of such a shelf, to put it mildly, is not very aesthetic for an apartment, but it is quite suitable for placing flowers on a balcony, on a veranda, in a country house.

We will improve this placement option: instead of a board or plywood, we use a plastic tray. It is more efficient - the sides will not allow the pots to move and fall, and if you place a lot of small pots on it, for example, with cacti and other succulents, then it is easy to remove all the pots at once along with the tray. As a fastener, we use tapes that are sold at any sewing supply store: a keeper tape, a hem tape (for trousers) or a belt tape (belts and bag handles are sewn from it).

Glass shelf for flowers on metal corners

Suitable only for those with wooden windows. We need metal corners with a stiffener, which are sold at any hardware store, and a wooden lath 3.5-4 cm wide and 1.5-2 cm thick.

Corners can be taken with a length of 10 cm and 25 cm. The rail is cut into strips along the width of the future shelf, and attached to the corners with screws. Glass was ordered in a hardware store according to the given dimensions. The width of the glass was 25 cm, length 110 cm (this length on three corners). The edges of the glass shelves need to be sanded so as not to cut themselves. Glass is very easy to grind, for this I took first a large sandpaper, then a medium one, for all 15 minutes of work. But it seemed to me that this was not enough, so that the veil on the window would not touch and tear at the corners of the glass shelves (and they are very wide), I cut off the corners of the shelves on one side - from the one that is from the window.

These shelves are convenient because the glass is not attached to anything, it can be removed at any time, windows washed, etc. And so, in general, a very stable design. I have one glass lying on a rail and on double-sided tape - for reliability.

Side shelves for flowers on the window

Written by Marta. This accommodation option is similar to the previous one. Materials: two slats, 2 cm thick, 3-4 cm wide, the length of the slats is equal to the height of the window opening. The slats are mounted on self-tapping screws with dowels at two points (top and bottom) of the side slope of the window. Metal corners with stiffeners, about 10-15 cm long, are attached to these rails. At a distance of about 40-50cm from each other. Shelves made of thick plywood, 10mm thick, are installed on the corners. Approximate sizes of shelves: 20-25cm by 30-35cm. These are the dimensions for the window opening of a panel house. In a brick house, the walls are thicker and the length of the shelves can be up to 50 cm. Plywood sheets prepared for shelves must be sanded so as not to get a splinter and varnished or painted with enamel.

An alternative to such shelves can be wall planters or decorative hooks for hanging pots. By the way, it must be noted that the shelves placed on the side slope of the window have one drawback: the flowers standing closer to the window are better illuminated, and those that are "second" are worse. Therefore, you need to either install fluorescent lamps from the side of the room, or periodically turn the flowers on the other side to the light, or swap them. The same flowers that are placed in the photo in the uppermost tier receive the least light, the most shade-tolerant plants should be placed there, or additional lighting should be installed from above.

Placement of plants on the grid

“I have quite a lot of large pots in which there are single stem plants, I tried to plant some babies in them, but something didn’t really suit me and they didn’t like it, and it’s hard to find the perfect community. So I found a way out like this: we take a grate of a suitable size (I make it myself either from slats or from cut wooden rulers, I assemble it in any convenient shape, or twist it with a thin wire or on PVA), and install it on a pot, and you can put anything on the grate, and a lot of space saves and decorativeness is not only preserved, but also acquired!" Photo by Natalia Matyushevskaya:

We make a note: this method is convenient when there is space under a large plant in a wide pot, and you can place several small pots with medium-sized flowers (for example, mini violets, fittonia, rooting cuttings of other plants). Even in this case, other pots should not be placed too tightly on the grate, otherwise the earth in the pot under the crate will not dry out and breathe well, which will adversely affect the "mother" plant.

Hanging shelf on the window

We will need: 4 anchors with a hook (these were mentioned above), two 10mm plywood cuts, from which we will make shelves, a thin metal cable or a strong rope. We fix the anchors in the upper slope, measure the required length of the cable, fix it on hooks and at the corners of the first board using fasteners (you can screw in the same hooks as on top, but smaller). On the reverse side of the board, we also cling to the fasteners, we also fasten them on the second board on one side. We connect the boards with cables so that the bottom one lies on the windowsill, and the whole structure is rather tightly stretched. When placed on the bottom shelf of plant pots, the loaded top shelf will hardly wobble.

This system can be used for only one shelf, which will have a length for the entire width of the window, with the only difference being that it will have to be fixed on six or more hooks in the upper slope.

Shelves for flowers wide window sill

The easiest shelf option is a prefabricated shelf from a hardware store. There is no need to describe - everything is clear from the photo. Shelf corner, can have 3-5 tiers. It has a drawback - the sides steal the light (block the lower plants). Therefore, additional lighting may be needed. There is a lot of sun on the western window shown in the photo, so there is no need for additional lighting. It is desirable that the shelf is only made of light plastic, white color reflects light, and the window will be lighter.

A more complex and expensive option is a glass shelf on metal legs-holders. The shelf shown in the photograph was made according to a sketch by a custom-made furniture company. But if you have the opportunity to visit a furniture fittings store, and there is a handicraft man in the house, you can make such a shelf yourself. The shelf can be corner made of rounded glass or rectangular.

Another type of shelf is a metal flower stand, originally its length was about 2 m (see last photo). The shelf was sawn to the height of the window opening and inserted into the spacer. Because the window is plastic, so as not to scratch the slopes, pieces of foam are placed under the ends of the rack. Styrofoam can be replaced with a cut of isolon, folded in several layers. Below are a few more photos of members of the forum who have adapted whatnots and flower stands on the windowsills.

Indoor flowers in flowerpots are a wonderful way to decorate an apartment or house, make the room more lively and comfortable.

In this article, we offer you interesting ideas on how to make beautiful hanging flower pots using a variety of materials, such as wood, leather, twine and other improvised means.

Also 5 step-by-step master classes with diagrams and photos on how to weave flower pots quickly and easily with your own hands and create a really beautiful interior decor.

Leather hanging planters are easy to manufacture, but look very original. Add some style to your home decor with this wonderful leather planter. It can definitely become exactly the highlight that makes the interior unique.

Master class: leather hanging planter

Necessary materials:

  • Distilled (purified) water
  • Tracing paper (21x28 cm) and 4 pieces of strong rope (or leather laces), each approximately 90-120 cm long
  • Leather dye (optional) and gloves
  • Leather (30x30 cm square)
  • Packing tape, a simple pencil and a stationery knife
  • Computer and printer (for template printing) and template
  • Sponge for wetting and coloring

Step by step diagram:

Step 1: Preparation and placement

Print out the hanger plant template on tracing paper. Lay the template down on the wrong side of the leather and choose the ideal placement (not too close to the sides to avoid any imperfections in the leather).

Step 3: Soften the skin

Dip the sponge into the purified water, and then evenly apply moisture to the skin. Repeat this step at least three times until the skin looks like it can't take in more water. This will soften the skin, and facilitate our work on weaving pots.

Step 4: Template transfer

Now place the template in the place you selected earlier and tape it on the sides so as not to move to the side. With a simple pencil, direct the lines printed on the tracing paper by pressing the pencil with medium force. Be careful and don't miss any line.

Step 5. Cutting

Now peel off the template from the skin to see how the design has transferred to the surface of the skin. Using a utility knife, make cuts in place of the lines.

For convenience, you can first cut a circle along the outer contour. The cuts should be clearly drawn along the drawn lines.

Step 6. Coloring

Note: This step is optional, depending on the desired color and materials at hand. In our case, we dyed the skin dark brown.

After the skin is dry from moisturizing (at least one hour), apply the desired dye. Apply the paint with a sponge (wearing gloves) until the desired effect is achieved.

As the skin dries, pull it back a little to give it a voluminous shape. You will start to see the skin deform, keep going pulling and stretching it to create the shape of the pot as it should be when finished.

Step 8: Hang Up

  • After, how the skin is completely dry, and a planter shape is formed, punch four holes in the upper part to thread the ropes through them.
  • You must place them evenly, at the same distance from each other, so that the suspended flower pot does not then lean to one side.
  • Take four ropes (regular or leather) and on each of them tie a knot, tightening it tightly at the end.

Step 9: Decorate and Mount

Add tassels, beads, rivets- everything that is necessary to achieve the desired style in the end. At the top of the hanging cords, gather all four of them together and tie into a knot.

You can use this knot to hook onto a ceiling hook and/or ring. See if the length of the pendant suits you, if necessary, tie the knot at a different level.

Straw hanging planter

This planter will suit the interior with innovative notes. Transform and complete your home decor with their neon cocktail straws and strings. And for this, even 15 minutes will be enough for you!

Necessary materials:

  • neon threads
  • neon straws (8 pieces per pot)
  • flower pots for indoor plants (we used white ones made of melamine)
  • house plants (succulents)
  • scissors

How to weave - instructions:

Step 1: Cut the threads

Cut eight pieces of neon cord, each 90-150 cm long, depending on how close to the ceiling you want to place the pots.

Step 2: Making a Knot

Take the newly cut threads together and tie a knot at one end, resulting in a tassel from a small excess of cord at one end.

Step 3: Divide the threads into sections

Lay out the rope in four sections (similar to the shape of a cross). That is, two ropes in each section.

Step 4: Cut the Straws

  1. Cut off in straws that small part that is separated by a spring. Then cut it in half. Take eight of these small pieces and stretch a thread into each of them.
  2. Move the straws to the center(knot) and on every two threads (in sections) make a knot. Here's what it will look like:
  3. Lay out the threads again in the shape of a cross, two threads per section. Only now, to form a section, take one thread from the previously adjacent sections.
  4. Cut the straws into pieces (total need 16), each of which should be the size of a piece of straw, which is separated by a spring.
  5. In each of 8 pieces of straws thread and make knots on the threads from one section.
  6. Similarly, lay out 2 strands in the shape of a cross, one each from adjacent sections.

Add a third and final set of straws to the strands and tie adjacent strands (similar to the previous set).

Step 5: Hang Up

It remains only to hang the pots and insert a flowerpot with indoor flowers into it. Make a few pieces, then together they will create a beautiful composition.

And neon straws will also glow a little at night, which will look very original.

Macrame flower pot

The macrame technique has, probably, the most variations in the manufacture of planters. They can be very simple, which can be done literally in 10-15 minutes with your own hands, or complex with many hours of work. Practice weaving first on the lungs, hone your skills, and then improve.

Master class: DIY macrame weaving

Macrame is back in fashion, as is needlework in general. In this master class, you will learn how to make a hanging planter with your own hands using this technique. There is nothing complicated, just follow the instructions and you will succeed!

Necessary materials:

  • 3 cords 2.5 m long and 0.5 cm thick
  • Metal ring with a diameter of 2.5-3 cm
  • Hook (on wall, slot) to hold macrame while working
  • Scissors and colored rope
  • Glass pot in the form of a ball with a diameter of 20 cm
  • Drainage stones and soil
  • House plants that climb (e.g. Stephanotis)
  • Decorative moss (optional)

Step-by-step instruction:

Step 1: Thread the ropes into the ring

Pull all three ropes through the metal ring until the ring is in the middle of the ropes. Thus, you now have six ropes to work with, each 1.25 m long.

Step 2: Making a Knot

  1. Of all tie a knot with six ropes right next to the ring. Make it as tight as possible, for this, after forming the knot, tighten each rope separately.
  2. Hang the ring on a hook (if there is no hook, then tie it to a cabinet handle or anything like that with a separate small rope, the main thing is to fix it). This will allow you to use both hands while working.

Step 3: Divide the Cords into Groups

  • Separate the cords into three groups, two in each. Tie a knot in each pair 45 cm below the ring. You will have three knots at the same level, make sure they are tight.
  • Take one rope from two adjacent pairs and tie them together about 12 cm below the previous knot.

Repeat the previous step with the rest of the ropes so that they are all tied together. This will create a zigzag pattern between the cords.

Step 4: End Node

  1. Approximately 12 -15 cm below the second set of knots, gather all six ropes together to make one big final knot. Pull each cord individually to make the knot as tight as possible.
  2. See what the length you need to leave and cut the ropes to the right size.
  3. Wrap the multi-colored threads around the rope in several places, creating blocks a few centimeters long. This stage is decorative and is optional. Now the macrame pendant is ready and you can place the pot in it.

Step 5: Planting Indoor Flowers

At the bottom of the glass pot, place stones for drainage to make a layer about 2.5 cm high. Fill the rest of the bowl with soil.

  1. Remove the plant from the temporary pot and place in a glass jar. Pour water over and press down on the soil to compress it. You can place decorative moss on top of the soil, optional.
  2. Place the glass bowl with the flower over the lowest node and spread the ropes to the sides to fix well.
  3. Straighten the plant if it is tangled in the ropes. Hang and admire the beauty of the plant and your own product.

Macrame schemes for flowerpots

Here are a few more schemes for those who want to master the weaving of macrame. They are very simple - suitable even for beginners. Look at the photo and repeat. A clothesline or thin twine is perfect as a material. The minimum consumption for a hanging planter is 10 meters of rope.

Wooden planter

The tree also gives a fairly wide range of actions, various shapes, colors. Choose what you like best and create.

Master class: hanging wooden planter

This hanging planter will wonderfully complement your home interior. It is done quickly and simply, the materials also will not take a lot of money. The best solution for an apartment.

Necessary materials:

  • Wooden plate and saw
  • Home plants and flowerpots
  • Rope and metal ring
  • Drill and sandpaper
  • Paint and brush

Step-by-step manufacturing scheme:

Step 1: Making Wooden Squares

Consider how many tiers your flower stand will have ( there are 4 of them, but you can do more or less ). Choose the houseplants you want to place there.

Based on all this, cut out the required number of squares from a wooden plate.

  1. To do this, turn the pot upside down and place it on a plate, circle and leave on the sides about 5 cm, thus determining the size of the square.
  2. With a saw make squares.

Step 2: Making holes for the pots

  1. You already have a circle drawn on the tree from the top of the pot, now you need to draw another one in the middle of it so that their centers coincide, but the diameter of the new one was about 1-2 cm smaller.
  2. This value depends on how quickly the pot that you will place in the stand increases to the top, and also you want so that the wooden square is almost at the very top, or in the center of the pot.
  3. You can take another pot, suitable for the size of the stencil, and circle it.

  • Cut out this new circle with a jigsaw. For convenience, you can first make a hole with a drill and, starting from it, work with a jigsaw.
  • The pots should now fit inside the squares.

Step 3: Hanging Holes

At the corners of the squares you need to make holes for the rope so that they can be hung. To do this, use drill with a diameter of up to 1 cm.

Step 4: Paint the Tree

Using sandpaper, remove the roughness and irregularities that have formed after sawing and drilling. Now the tree can be painted or simply treated with an antiseptic. In this case, dark brown paint was used.

Step 5: Paint the Pots

Pots can also be painted, if desired. Sloppy strokes of white paint look good on plain clay pots. This step can be skipped.

Step 6: Putting it all together

In order to fasten the wooden squares together, we need a thick rope: cut 4 ropes of 180 cm each (for a given number of tiers). Pull one rope into each corner hole of one of the squares and tie a knot at the end, this will be the lower part of the structure.

Tie one more on each rope. knot at 25-30 cm above the previous one and thread the ropes into the holes of the next square. Check that everything is even, and the second tier is clearly horizontal above the first, correct the knots if necessary. The second tier is ready. Repeat these steps for the remaining tiers.

Step 7: Plant Your Plants

A practical advantage of such a hanging stand is that water that can flow down after watering from the top plant will drip onto the lower one. So a pot stand is needed only on the lowest tier (if you use it outdoors, you can do without stands at all).

You can also put coffee filters or similar absorbent materials on the bottom of the pots so that the water can flow out, but the earth will not fall out through the hole.

TIP: To prevent the bottom pot from falling out of the stand if someone accidentally catches the rope, glue it to the pot with superglue.

Step 8: Transplant the plants into prepared pots.

If you glue the base of the lower pot before inserting it into the wooden square, it will turn out like in the photo below. If you want the bottom pot to be inserted into the tree in the same way as the rest, then first transplant the plants, insert the pots into the holes in the tree, and only then glue the stand to the bottom one.

Step 9: Hang Up

  1. To hang this structure, pull the ropes through the metal ring and tie a knot, or bend them over and tie them around with another thin rope.
  2. Adjust the rope so that all tiers are horizontal and even.

Such a stand is good, just do not forget that the flowers need a sufficient amount of light.

A hanging stand is a wonderful solution for those who love flowers but don't have enough space to place them.

Pots made of copper tubes

The manufacturing principle is similar to that described in the previous master class, only copper tubes are used here (and they fold into a slightly different pattern). Of course, these materials will be more expensive than straws, and cutting them is not so fast, but in general there is no difficulty, and it turns out beautifully and with high quality.

TIP: If desired, copper pipes can be replaced with plastic straws for cocktails

Necessary materials:

  • 2 m copper tube with a diameter of approximately 3 mm
  • Mini pipe cutter
  • Strong thread or fishing line
  • Leather cord (length depends on how high you intend to hang the pot)
  • small pot
  • Plant

Step by step weaving:

Step 1: Cut the tubes

You need to cut the tube into the following pieces: 20 pieces 4 cm long and 5 pieces 24 cm long. Cut long pieces first, and then small ones, it will be more convenient. Use a measuring tape for measurements.

Step 2: Start folding the tubes

Tie a knot at one end of the fishing line, and thread the other through 5 small pieces of the tube so that you get a pentagon (that is, the line must be passed through the first piece of the tube twice).

Step 3: Continue making pentagons with small tubes

  • Pass the line through 4 tubes of the same size, and then through the tube of the previously formed pentagon. Now the line is in the tube connecting the pentagons, and you need to bring it through the top tubes of the pentagon you just made to its left edge.
  • Don't worry if they don't look perfect, everything will straighten out when you hang and place the pot.
  • Then do it in the same way 2 more pentagons, in total there should be 4 pieces, and they should be located as in the photo below.
  • Now bring the line through the tubes to the bottom of the extreme pentagon and put a tube on it. Then pass the fishing line through one edge of the other extreme pentagon.

Here's what should happen:

Pass the line through 2 more tubes, and then through the edge of the pentagon, as in the photo below. It should look something like a flower, or rather like this:

Step 4: Stringing Long Tubes

  1. Lead the fishing line to one of the highest points of the structure (between the two upper tubes of one of the pentagons). Now the fishing line needs to be threaded through a long tube.
  2. Pass the line through another long tube, and then direct it to the next highest point of the pentagon structure (any, not necessarily adjacent).

  1. Pass the wire through 2 small tubes to get to the next high point. Now pass through another long tube, the line will come out to the junction of the long tubes, return the line back down through one of the previous two long tubes. Attach the fourth tube in the same way.
  2. Now it remains for you to attach the last tube, but first place a pot in the middle of the structure, otherwise it will not fit through the honey tubes later.
  3. Now attach the last tube. Here's what should happen:

Step 5: Attaching the Leather Cord

Cut about 30 cm of leather cord and attach it to the connection point of the long tubes. You can tie a knot, but here, for aesthetics, hot glue was used, fastening it to a neatly folded end of the cord. Here's what it looks like:

To hide the glued area, cut another small piece of cord, secure with hot glue, and wrap around the cord to hang from.

Trim off excess line and cord. And the last step: plant your favorite houseplants!

Where to hang pots

Moreover, in summer, plants can be placed both inside and outside the house, but since it is cold now, we will focus on home ones. You can green any room of the apartment, kitchen or hallway, the main thing is to take into account the needs of plants, the right amount of light. In fact, each version of the hanging planter can be placed in any room of the apartment, so this is only your design decision.

Of course, you can just put a flower pot on a windowsill or bedside table, and it will already look good. But if you try a little more, then you can decorate the appearance of the pots, and make better use of the space of the apartment, at the same time arranging the plants and not taking up extra space with them (with hanging planters).

Above the workplace

Here, a hanging planter will not take up much space, especially since we always try to put the desktop closer to the window, which will be very popular with indoor flowers.

In the bedroom

The bedroom is not only beautiful, but also very useful to place plants. They enrich the room with oxygen. And how nice it is to wake up among the greenery. Try hanging plant pots in your bedroom.

Such pots can be used both for a single pot, and for several at once. Such wicker baskets are sure to be found in many homes. They often lie idle, but in vain they will make an excellent suspension for flowers.

High-tech planter

Modern suspensions made of concrete or brass will fit into the modern style of the apartment.

From bottles

Probably the cheapest of all methods, but it looks no worse than the others. We collect empty plastic and glass bottles and make original flower pots.

From moss and shells

Many houses have shells brought from the seas, and if you drill a small hole and plant small succulents there, a mini-planter will learn. The main thing is the quantity, 3-8 pieces will create an excellent hanging garden.

The main knots of macrame have already been mastered, you can start making the first simple product using the macrame technique - flower pots. To make your flower pots beautiful, we tried to make a selection of master classes on weaving flower pots using the macrame technique with our own hands.

Plants in the interior look much more elegant if the flower pots are decorated with weaving using the macrame technique.

Material for pots

What material is needed for macrame planters? The material must be durable, not easily soiled, pliable, resilient, not slippery.

To weave knots, so that they turn out to be clear and expressive, it is necessary to be tight enough.

As for the color scheme, everything here is up to you. Here are some examples:

Pots for several flowers can be as one color ...

Basic rules for creating a simple planter (for beginners)

1) Choose a scheme and a suitable material.

2) Cut the threads into segments of the desired length.

3) We fasten the threads on a working basis. You should get four ends (sometimes three or another number).

4) We make a loop for hanging pots. Often use a ring for fastening.

5) Then we begin to knit twisted. They need to be tied four of the desired length (or another number, according to your plan).

6) We measure the diameter of the pot so that it fits well in the pots.

7) We select the scheme of knots with which we will braid the base - a flower pot. Most often this is .

8) We knit a recess for a flowerpot.

9) At the end, we fix the work with a tight knot so that the flowerpot does not fall out of the pots.

10) Cut off the threads, leaving long ends. They can be fluffed up or beads can be attached to them to give the product an original look.

The scheme of weaving flowerpots using macrame technique for beginners

You will need:

  • cord with a diameter of 5 mm (length 40 m)
  • metal or wooden ring with a diameter of 4.5 cm

Cut the cord into 8 pieces of 5 m.

Fold the thread so that one end is 3.5 m and the other 1.5 m and fasten it to the ring. Make a loop by bringing it under the ring. Bend it over the base towards you and pull the ends of the thread into the loop. Lock from below.

Fasten the parts of the rope on the ring so that 2 long (working) ones are located at the edges, 2 short ones (axial) between the long parts.

So that the threads do not interfere, tie them into a skein and secure with elastic bands

Weave pots handles

Divide all the threads into 4 groups (2 long and 2 short parts). Weave single long pieces of rope.

You need to tie about 30 knots or about 50 cm (their number depends on the thickness of the rope and on the required length of the product).

Secure the twisted chain with two flat knots:

In the same way, weave three more twisted chains.

Weave a basket for pots

To do this, weave 1 flat knot with two right ropes from one group and 2 flat knots with left ropes from the group closest to the right at a distance of 8 cm from the last knots. We repeat 4 times, sequentially including all the ropes in a circle.

We measure 8 centimeters ...

... we fasten the threads with a flat knot ...

Knit three rows of warp.

Step back a little from the last knots and use the braiding method to gather the ropes into one bundle.

Braid method

The braid must be very strong so that the flower pot does not break!

We pull all the threads into a bundle. We take a piece of thread, fold it in half and add to all the threads with a loop up.

With one thread from the bundle from top to bottom we make several turns.

We insert the end of the cord into the loop and pull the ends of the loop down so that the cord comes out from below under the turns. We stretch the second end of the loop up and pull it under the winding.

We carefully cut off the upper end of the thread, and hide the lower end along with the rest of the threads.

Braid weaving pattern

Leave the length of the thread for the brush about 20 - 30 cm, cut the ends with sharp scissors. The pot is ready!

Cache-pot two-level "Yuliana" in macrame technique

Most often, a planter is woven for one flowerpot, but it can be two- (or more) level. The shape, size, patterns, material for it are also very diverse.

Cache-pot "Yuliana" is woven from an ordinary linen cord. It is designed for two flowers, located above and below.

Finished product length about 70cm

Required material:

  • linen cord 5 mm thick (length 40 m)
  • 2 rings with a diameter of approximately 4 and 6 cm
  • 8 beads for decoration

The order of weaving planters "Juliana"

1) Cut the cord into 8 pieces of 5 m each. Mark the middle of the thread.

2) We make a ring for fastening. We take 4 threads, put them parallel and horizontally to each other. From the marked middle we weave “up” and “down” about 8 flat square knots. This resulting lace is folded in half and threaded through a ring of smaller diameter. And if you don’t have a ring, then weave a few more knots, make a “loop” and tie 1-2 flat knots on all cords to strengthen. Another option is to secure the thread by braiding.

3) We divide 8 ropes into 4 groups of 2 pieces and weave about 6-8 knots. It can be replaced with ordinary flat knots or weave a twisted chain.

4) We fix it on the second ring, stepping back from the last knot 5-6 cm, with horizontal rep knots. Between these cords we hang the remaining threads, folded in half. Now we have 16 threads at work.

5) Weave beads. We divide the threads into groups of 4 pieces. We knit 8 flat knots in each group, first weave one bead for decoration. Then we weave 2 more flat knots, weave the second bead and again 8 flat knots.

6) Weave the base for the first pot. We retreat 5 cm from the last knots, weave twisted chains, working with threads from neighboring ropes, shifting the knots.

7) Check if our flowerpot fits. If it does not fit or, conversely, falls out, untie the knots and tie correctly. Weave twisted chains about 20-25 cm. (Their length depends on the height of your pot.)

8) Weave the base for the second pot. We retreat 10-12 cm from the last knot, using 2 threads from adjacent chains, weave one flat knot at a time.

9) Again we retreat 12 cm, we collect all the cords using the braiding method.

Be sure to try on the pot when you finally fasten the threads. This will be the place for the second pot. It must fit securely in there.

10) The design of the "brush". Step back 25-30 cm and cut the cords. You can fluff them up, untwist them, or add beads for more decorativeness.

Cache-pot openwork pattern "Butterfly"

To weave such an openwork planter you need:

  • rope - 50 m
  • three rings with a diameter of 7 cm, 10 cm and 21 cm
  • scissors
  • thread fastening pins
  • work cushion
  • hook for fastening pots

Operating procedure

1) Cut the threads: 3 parts of 8 m, 6 parts of 3 m, 2 parts of 1 m, 1 thread - 2.5 m

2) Wrap the rings with a diameter of 10 and 21 cm tightly with a rope so that there is no gap. A ring with a diameter of 7 cm must be braided with double flat knots with a thread 2.5 m long.

Schemes of the main macrame knots of this planter

3) All the threads, marking the middle, lay vertically and secure in the middle with pins.

Place the shortest (meter) along the edges. With these threads on both sides of the middle, tie 8 cm chains of double flat knots. All other threads will be the basis.

4) Distribute the threads into 6 (long - along the edges) and in each part, first tie in a chain of 4 double flat knots, then perform 4 more of the same knots, leaving 3 pico air loops between them (pattern "Butterfly" , rice. 6).

5) Fasten the ends of the chains with horizontal rep knots ( rice. 2) on a ring with a diameter of 10 cm. Next, weave first 3 "butterflies", and then simple chains of 4 knots without pico. Pull the bundle of cord under the chains using the “braiding” method.

6) Again, divide the threads into groups of 6 and tie 3 hanging cords 40 cm long. Each weave like this: first with single flat knots 17 cm of a twisted chain, then a “butterfly”, then a “pea” ( rice. eight), again a "butterfly" and then 13 cm of a twisted chain.

7) Attach the ends of the hanging cords to a ring with a diameter of 21 cm, tying 3 threads in between them (a total of 9 threads of 1 m, folded in half). On every 6 threads under the ring, perform a "butterfly".

8) Connect together the two extreme cords from adjacent butterfly patterns and tie 6 chains of 6 double flat knots, and leave the two inner ones free. We make a bundle of all the threads and tighten using the “braid” method.

We decorate the ends of the cords with “rollers” ( rice. 12). The length of the connected brush in finished form is 25 cm.

The originality of the macrame technique is that by spending a little money and time, you can decorate your home with a useful and pleasant decor element.

To decorate the garden and the house, gardeners often use hanging planters.

Baskets made of vines look very nice, which can be made in a wide variety of shapes, for example, in the form of a ball, cone or rectangular box.

Perhaps, flowerpots made of wire or forged metal will become a harmonious decoration of any landscape design. This option is especially attractive in that it creates the feeling of a certain complete "flight" of the flower bed.

In addition to the shape, material and design of the flowerpot itself, when choosing it, it is important to pay attention to the fastening. In addition, the fastening of containers for hanging flower beds must be very strong and reliable.

This is necessary so that when decorating a flower bed in the yard, you can rotate the plant from time to time to protect it from the sun's rays.

The specifics of planting suspended flower beds

Planting a hanging flower bed depends on the shape of the flowerpot. In simple vases, reminiscent of pots for indoor flowers, that is, those that have only one open surface, the plants are planted as usual.

It is a completely different matter if the flowerpot is designed to create a hanging ball. In this case, the walls of the frame are filled with moss, which is designed to retain moisture, and the entire basket is covered with a special film, which is most often sold complete with such flowerpots.

Then, in those places where the shoots should subsequently grow, it is necessary to make small holes. The seedlings should be carefully inserted into the holes made, and the soil should be poured into the flowerpot and the plants should be planted at the top.

Having planted flowers to create a hanging flower bed with your own hands, you should water the soil a little and hang the flowerpot in a cool place for several days.

Hanging flowers in the garden: which plants are suitable for hanging flower beds

To create hanging flower beds, it is better to choose plants that are unpretentious in care and do not have special requirements for the condition of the soil.

In addition, when choosing inhabitants for such flowerpots, it is important to consider the ratio of the size of their root system to the size of the pot.

For example, petunia roots grow very quickly, and if the pot for this flower is less than 6-8 liters, then its root system will soon fill the entire volume of the container, due to which the plant may die.

A do-it-yourself hanging flower bed will have a very beautiful design when planting luxuriantly blooming annuals in flowerpots, for example, pansies, petunias, verbena, marigolds, etc.

Almost all domestic plants, including Kalanchoe, nasturtiums, daisies, rejuvenated, stonecrops, etc., also get along well and grow in a hanging planter or flowerpot.

Of course, bright colorful flowers will always be a worthy decoration of any garden or interior, but you should not think that only flowering plants can be used in the design of hanging flower beds. For example, flowerpots with herbs - mint, rosemary, etc. look very beautiful and stylish.

And for those who love originality, we can advise you to make a very unusual, but very useful decoration - a hanging basket with small-fruited vegetables, for example, strawberries, which will bear fruit even on the veranda or balcony.

Specific care for hanging flower beds

Caring for plants planted in hanging pots depends on whether they have pallets.

Baskets without a pallet prevent stagnation of moisture in the soil, which, on the one hand, is good, since it slows down the decay of the root system of plants, and on the other hand, it can lead to a lack of moisture if the flower bed is in a sunny area.

If the flowerpot is equipped with a tray, then you should not water the plant too often, and also install it in darkened areas.

In addition, the soil in hanging flower beds must be periodically fertilized, because. during watering, minerals in it are washed out.

In all other aspects, caring for plants in hanging garden beds is no different from caring for plants planted in open ground - they also need to be watered regularly, eliminate dried leaves and fight pests.

Hanging flower beds are exactly the addition that can give brightness and expressiveness to any suburban area. They can be hung in gazebos and pergolas, on fences and poles, on garden benches, in a recreation area, on a summer terrace, balcony and even on the walls of the house - everywhere they will look beautiful and harmonious.

However, when designing suspended street flower beds, it is also important to take into account the style of the backyard plot. You can beautifully emphasize the beauty of the landscape with bright colors or unusual shapes, or you can focus on the natural beauty of plants.

If such hanging flower beds "settle" in your garden, be sure that this decision will not disappoint you. Beautiful flowers and plants, neat and well-groomed, always delight the eye and create an atmosphere of comfort, and if they are also suspended in beautiful, original flowerpots, then such an arrangement of the site can only be envied.

Old enameled bowls, flower pots, buckets will be used to create planters. The containers are hung on chains and hung as high as possible so that any passer-by can see and appreciate this beauty.

It is such a pleasure to make simple things for the garden with your own hands. Please yourself with a hanging flower pot, it can perfectly decorate the porch of a private house or a balcony in a city apartment. And we will share with you a master class on its manufacture ...

wooden planter

For the original hanging planter, you will need 24 bars 15-20 cm long. Laying them in a checkerboard pattern, they form a square box with through holes.

Connect the bars with nails or screws. Ropes are tied to the bars, at the corners of the upper edge of the planter and a homemade planter is hung on any tree in the garden.

Wooden planter with viols:

A wooden planter, similar to a hanging swing, will “hold” an entire flower bed with pansies (violas) on itself

burlap pots (tarpaulin, felt)

A heavy fabric, such as burlap, is great for making rustic planters. All that is needed for this is to cut two blanks from the fabric in the form of a semicircle or square, sew them like a pocket and hang them on the fence.

For hanging, you can use a fabric strip sewn to the upper edge of the planter or a wire threaded into the fabric.

Hanging planters for the garden made of felt

In a felt pot, you can put a pot with garden annuals.

New outfit for the watering can.

If you have old watering cans or buckets with basins lying around in your country house, do not throw them away, treat the surface with rust sandpaper, and paint them in bright colors. Inside it is fashionable to put pots (or bags of soil) and flowers. And these items will turn into funny pots

You can hang them on racks, trees, fences

How to make a hanging flower pot from a plastic container

1. Materials and tools. Plafond itself. Galvanized wire with a diameter of 2 mm from the latest project. Key ring. Round nose and pliers.

2. We prepare three pieces of wire 25 cm long.

3. With the help of round-nose pliers at one end of each wire, we bend a round eye.

4. At the other end of each wire, we make a “P”-shaped bend. After all the modifications, the length of the three blanks should be the same.

5. With the help of an awl or the sharp end of scissors, we make three holes with our own hands in the area of \u200b\u200bthe neck of the ceiling.

6. Insert "P" -shaped hooks into the holes

7. We put wire blanks on the key ring. The pot is ready.

8. We plant plants. Plants can be varied, but it should be noted that the pot does not provide drainage and, if the plant requires frequent transplantation, it may be difficult to extract the plant in this pot design.

Pots can be built not only from cans, but also from plastic bottles(the most common source material. which is always at hand).

Paint the surface of the pots

You can decorate the pots with twine
To do this, we need a plastic bucket of ice cream or other products:
and you will also need jute twine

Glue the beginning of the skein together to fasten the handle.

And we begin to wrap the twine around the bucket. Make sure that each circle fits snugly together, without gluing the twine. When you have reached the bottom of the bucket, you can glue the last few circles, and also glue the end of the twine well.

Then it remains to make 4 holes and hang a bucket-planter decorated with twine.

Wicker flower pot

You can braid a flower pot to hang it in a simple way that imitates macrame.

In order to make a hanging planter, we need about 10 pieces of thick rope, about 90-120 cm long, several large buttons and a metal ring. And decide on the size yourself.

Instructions:

We fold our pieces of rope in half and fasten with a simple loop as shown in the figure:

Then select two loops located side by side and fasten their adjacent ends with a button, as shown in the figure. It is better to place buttons at a distance of 5-7 cm from the ring.
