Helpful Hints

Regular glue gun hot glue can be used not only for gluing various parts, but also for creating various patterns and crafts.

When working with hot glue, be careful and pay special attention to the safety of children as the glue gun gets hot and the glue comes out very hot.

Here are some very interesting and extraordinary ideashow else you can use a glue gun and hot glue:

Glue crafts. We use wax crayons.

You will need:

glue gun

Wax crayons

* It is possible that after using wax crayons, your glue gun will deteriorate, so it is advisable to use an old or inexpensive gun.

* If children are working on the project, then carefully monitor the work with a hot glue gun and hot melted crayons.

1. Remove the labels (papers) from the crayons.

2. Cover the workplace with an old towel.

3. Heat up the glue gun.

4. Gently insert the crayon into the glue gun and gradually push it through. The glue gun's trigger won't be able to push them through, so you'll have to do it by hand.

5. The wax will start to melt and you can use the colored drops of wax to create vibrant blobs.

Wax printing is another way to use wax crayons and a hot glue gun to create vibrant pictures.

Crafts from glue with your own hands. Decorate a vase or candlestick with hot glue.

You will need:

Inexpensive, round vase or candlestick

Heat up the glue and start gently applying it to the vase, layer by layer, until you end up with transparent lines on the walls of the vase.

If you want to make smoother lines, ask someone to help you - have the vase spin while you apply the glue.

Unusual crafts. Hot glue corals.

You will need:

thin wire

Glue gun with hot glue

acrylic paint

tassel

piece of plywood

Nails and hammer.

Making red coral

1. Cut the wire into several pieces of different lengths. In this example, their length varies from 10 to 40 cm. Bend each piece in half.

2. Heat the glue and gently cover all the pieces of wire with it.

3. Choose the color you want to paint the coral, in this case red. Use acrylic paint to paint the glue on the wires.

4. When the paint is dry, you can collect all the details into one coral. Take 2-3 pieces of wire with glue and connect them together with another thin clean wire (not covered with glue).

Add 2 more parts to the structure and connect them again with clean wire.

In order for the coral to stand on a flat surface, all ends of the clean wires must be twisted and bent into a stand shape (see image).

Making white coral

1. Cut 3 pieces of wire, each between 30 and 35 cm long, and twist the ends together.

2. Bend all the wires to your liking and lay them on a flat surface where hot glue won't stick - glass, for example.

3. Cover all wires with glue. After that, you can add additional branches of glue to your design.

4. Once you've made the coral the shape you want, let the glue dry and paint it with white acrylic paint.

5. To make the base for the craft, prepare a piece of plywood and attach the ends of the wires to it with nails.

6. Cover the ends with glue and paint with acrylic paint.

Unusual handicrafts. Hot glue snowflakes.

You will need:

Glue gun with hot glue

Nail polish or acrylic paint

Parchment paper (NOT wax paper)

Drawn snowflake shape (optional).

1. Print or draw a snowflake on a plain paper and place the drawing under parchment paper.

2. Using a glue gun and hot glue, trace around the snowflake pattern. Wait a minute for the glue to dry.

If necessary, after the glue has dried, you can slightly trim the shape with a hair dryer.

3. Carefully remove the snowflake from the paper. The paper can be used further to create more snowflakes.

4. Both sides of the glue snowflake can be painted with nail polish or acrylic paint.

Original DIY crafts . Rolling pin with a pattern.

You will need:

Any rolling pin

felt-tip pen

1. Draw any pattern on the rolling pin. It is advisable not to draw too many lines.

2. Heat the glue and start applying it to the lines drawn on the rolling pin. It is advisable to carry out the entire process on a flat surface covered with newspaper or cardboard.

3. When the glue is dry, you can use a rolling pin to trace the pattern on the clay by rolling it out.

The glue can be removed and a different pattern applied.

Original crafts. Candle glass holder.

You will need:

Small glass vase or glass

Glue gun with hot glue

Aerosol or acrylic paint

Spray oil or plain vegetable oil.

It is advisable to choose a wide vase so that the heat from the candle inside it does not heat up the glue, which can leak.

1. Wash and dry the vase, then wipe it with vegetable oil and a paper towel.

2. Start applying hot glue to the back of the bottom of the vase, drawing patterns with it. The main thing is that all the lines are well intertwined so that it is easier to remove the glue from the vase.

Continue to paint patterns with glue on the sides of the vase.

It is advisable to wear goggles to protect your eyes, as the glue will heat up the glass.

3. When the glue is dry, gently begin to separate the pattern from the vase. You may need to use a screwdriver, knife, or other tool to make it easier to separate the pattern from the glass vase.

4. Clean the vase of glue residue. Use dishwashing detergent.

5. Paint the drawing with glue. If you are using spray paint, read the instructions carefully and follow them.

Now you can insert a glass or a vase into the candle holder and you will get an excellent interior decoration.

Each needlewoman has such a tool as hot glue. Such an item is required if you need to glue something together. Moreover, it can be used not only for its intended purpose, but also to create wonderful crafts. For example, you can take a look at the photos of glue crafts to understand what we are talking about.

Cat scratcher

It is not necessary to buy a special comb for pets, because you can make it yourself. Take ordinary rubber gloves of the color you like and apply small drops of glue over the entire area. Give time for the glue to dry properly, and you can start stroking the cat. This process will become not only pleasant, but also useful, since such a tool will remove excess hair from the animal and it will not scatter throughout the apartment.

Buttons

If you are going to decorate with your own hands any item of your wardrobe, then a sequin button will undoubtedly be a great solution.

From the tools you need only hot glue and the sparkles themselves. It is necessary to pour sparkles and organize a circle from them, then the whole thing is covered with glue and a small amount of sparkles is added on top. When the glue dries, you need to make several holes with a toothpick through which the button will be sewn to the clothes.

Moreover, you can sell such crafts from hot glue with your own hands and organize a good profitable business.

Eraser at the end of a pencil

Have you seen pencils with an eraser on the back? So, glue can become the same eraser, and it will cope with the task just as well. Just put some glue on the ball end of the pencil and let it dry.

unique vase

Do you have a transparent glass vase at home? Try to make it more original with hot glue. Just apply the glue evenly in the form of a texture or pattern over the entire area of the vase, let it dry properly, and you will get a non-slippery vase with an unusual design.

Shoes

Just as in the case of a vase, you can achieve an anti-slip effect for other objects. The best idea is a glue craft to make shoes that won't slip on ice. To do this, apply hot glue in small areas or strips to the soles of your boots and wait until it dries.

Now you do not have to be afraid that you will immediately fall as soon as you step on the ice. You can also make an inscription on the sole from glue, which will look very unusual.

In the same way, you can get a hanger (hanger) for clothes, from which clothes will not slip off. Apply a little glue evenly on the clothes hanger and wait until it dries completely. Try the improved item!

interior decoration

Apply glue to wax paper in such a way that you get some kind of shape, for example - it can be a snowflake. Wait for the glue to dry, and for an even more amazing effect, you can paint the snowflake with nail polish in different colors. Decorate a Christmas tree, a wall or a window with such figures and they will please the eye.

Please note, if you work with such glue with children, then be extremely careful, as the glue gun itself gets very hot, and the glue will be very hot - one awkward movement and you can get burned properly!

It is not necessary to peep the techniques that are used to make crafts, try to take paper and make crafts from paper and glue with your imagination, we are sure that you will find your use for all this.

Wax crayons

Crafts created with wax crayons can ruin your glue gun, so for this hobby, it is better to take an old or unnecessary tool.

Instead of glue, you need to insert colored chalk into the hole, and when the gun heats up, gently push it inward. Under the influence of temperature, the crayon will melt, and molten colored mass will begin to drip from the gun. It is very convenient to use to create colored blots in the composition.

Candlestick

For this work, you need a glass vase or glass, glue with a gun, acrylic or aerosol paint and spray oil or ordinary vegetable.

Choose a wide container that you will use as a candlestick, as the temperature of a burning candle can melt the glue, which will undoubtedly ruin the product.

Clean the vase from traces and cover with a thin layer of oil. Create a beautiful pattern or design on the outer surface of the glass, you can even come up with a special structure.

It is best to apply lines of glue that will be in contact with each other in case that it is easy to remove the adhesive layer from the glass.

The next step is to carefully separate the adhesive layer from the glass. You can resort to using a knife or screwdriver, so the layer will be easier to remove.

When the job is finished, the glass must be rinsed from traces of glue, this is best handled by detergent. And the candlestick itself needs to be painted with paint of your favorite color. If you use spray paint, then carefully read the instructions before using it.

Crafts made from threads and glue have an interesting look, which cover, for example, a vase with a layer of multi-colored threads, and glue is used as a binder.

It is not necessary to look at someone else's work and repeat it exactly. Turn on your imagination and you can come up with glue accompaniment to any item of your interior. There are a lot of options, you just have to raise your head and run your eyes over the objects that surround you.

You can also find various glue craft workshops on the Internet that will help you if you really can’t think of anything on your own. Some tips can be very helpful.

Photo crafts from glue

The unpredictable behavior of the heating element in the Chinese glue gun has become a byword. The service life, according to information from Internet users, varies from a few seconds after switching on to five years of proper operation. About the power of the heating element, there were statements from “practically does not heat at all” to “heats quite satisfactorily”. This was the reason for the curiosity that arose, which prompted me to buy, for a start, an inexpensive Chinese glue gun for the subject of "dismantling - to see." That is, to get acquainted with the design of the device in detail, and only. I didn’t take glue sticks, I probably won’t need them.

Glue gun diagram

And now the melting chamber with a heating element installed on it appeared to the eye. It looks like a small jet turbine.

Clamp and thrust pad removed. Here is the heating element. I note that it lay flat on the installation site, in the center and directly contacted the body of the melting chamber with only one of its planes.

I unfold a rather careless package - an insulator. Inside, there is just a miniature ceramic heating element and two contacts for connecting 220 volts to it.

I looked at the heater more closely, rang the multimeter between the sides. They call, but not everywhere. The darkening visible in the photo in the lower part is present on all sides and completely covers the adjacent end side. It doesn't ring. This is a ceramic coating on top of the heating element. Designed for direct contact with the body of the heating chamber and transfer of heat generated by the heater, without placing a dielectric gasket between them. This sputtering is a dielectric gasket. It became clear that the heater was installed incorrectly by the manufacturer. He lay on his side, and even three times wrapped in an insulator. According to the existing sizes of heaters, 4 pieces will fit on the installation site.

Guided by common sense (as far as God has given), I set about correcting the “jambs” of the manufacturer. I brought the dimensions of the contacts in line with the dimensions of the ceramic heater. Exactly in length, and 1 mm less in height.

I made a millimeter bend along the length at a right angle to prevent the contact from slipping down onto the body of the heating chamber.

This is how the contacts assembled with the heater began to look (top view).

The resistance of the assembly (located inside the clothespin) turned out to be 6 kilo-ohms. It immediately became clear that the 20W declared by the manufacturer would not be close to being confirmed.

Exactly according to the size of the ceramic heater, I cut out two copper plates 2 mm thick. It is necessary to somehow fill the void at the installation site and take heat from the sides of the heater.

The cut is made for the possibility of preloading the sides. This will add security in holding the heater in place and is intended to improve heat transfer.

Sectional diagram of the installation. In the figure there are gaps between the individual components, in a real assembly they should not be.

Assembly done. A heater without a gasket stands on a plane (end) intended for this purpose, covered with a dielectric coating, current-carrying contacts on the sides, then four layers of mica on three sides (taken from an old burnt soldering iron), copper plates on the sides. Consolidation - an insulator on the right from asbestos. I had a piece at hand, it seemed that it would be more reliable.

Here you can see that the sides are already pressed against the copper plates and hold the entire assembly, the ceramic heater is directly in contact with the heating chamber wall, and the el. contacts are far away.

The clamp is put in place last. The junction of the wires with the contacts must be insulated with ceramic insulators or something that fully replaces them.

After assembly, the first thing I measured was the current consumption. When turned on, within a few seconds, there is a gradual current surge of 80 - 120 - 210 mA, then a sharp jump down - 20 mA. Mains voltage 225 - 230 volts x 0.02 A = maximum 4.6 watts. And on the front panel of the gun, in plain sight, there is a nameplate, which indicates the power of 20 watts. The glue gun will really have the declared power if you install 4 heating elements. However, let's not dream, but rather look at the video of the heating dynamics of a correctly assembled and installed (in my opinion) heating element.

Video

The bonding temperature is indicated by the manufacturer at 120 degrees, it was reached in 2 minutes. Yes, it is also necessary to heat the glue stick, but the remaining 3 minutes (the control heating time before starting work is 5 minutes) I think is enough for this. Especially for "" - Babay iz Barnaula.

Nowadays, hot glue has become quite popular. It has a lot of advantages: it is harmless, easy to use (you can melt it even with an ordinary lighter), quite reliable, resistant to moisture, quickly heats up and cools down. This hot melt adhesive is usually sold in the form of oblong rods, has several standard diameters, colors. To work with it, you need a special hot-melt gun, which gradually melts the hot-melt adhesive rod, squeezing it in the right portions onto the surface to be glued.

You can buy a thermal gun, this is a fairly common product (and relatively inexpensive). Although you can assemble a hot glue gun with your own hands. It is not necessary to make a thermal gun in the form of a gun. The heating element burned out on my purchased thermal gun, after which I decided to redo it a little. As a result, instead of a thermal gun, a thermal syringe turned out. Moreover, it even became more convenient for me to glue them than it was with a gun. Although it may not look so attractive, well, a homemade product is a homemade product.

Who does not know - the working temperature of hot melt adhesive (ordinary sticks with a diameter of 7 and 11 mm) is 120-150 ° C. The most important part is the temperature adhesive melter. I just took this part from a broken heat gun. I first wrapped the metal part of the melter with mica, after which I wound a nichrome wire with a diameter of 0.2 mm around it. Wire resistance 25 Ohm. Well, from here its length is how it will turn out. This new heater was powered by an adjustable step-voltage power supply. The operating voltage for the thermosyringe was from 12 to 28 volts. We can say that my thermogun, a thermosyringe made by myself, is powered by alternating 16 volts.

My home-made hot glue gun in the form of a syringe also, in addition to the metal heater itself, has another important part, this is a rubber tip (made of heat-resistant rubber), into which a hot glue rod is inserted. It should match the diameter of the glue stick itself, as it prevents the melted hot melt from escaping from the side where it enters. This rubber tip was also taken from an old heat gun. When the nichrome was wound, I wound several layers of fiberglass tape over it, which served as electrical and thermal insulation. And already on the fiberglass I attached a finger holder made of ordinary copper wire of the appropriate diameter.

It would not be superfluous to say that when it comes to winding heaters from nichrome wire (on a soldering iron, on a heater, on a thermal gun, etc.), then the following should be taken into account - the output ends of nichrome should be made with a larger diameter. That is, we measured the length of the working wire of nichrome, and the ends themselves, about 10 centimeters long, were made from several veins of the same nichrome, twisting them together. This is necessary so that the main part of the nichrome is heated, and these ends remain cold (have minimal heating), so that over time the power cord connected to them does not lose contact.

Since the heating of the entire thermal gun, the thermosyringe is large enough, the place where you need to take it with your fingers must be well enough insulated with a fiberglass tape, applying a sufficient number of turns. In general, my hot glue gun, thermosyringe turned out well. It is compact, easy to work with, heats up quite quickly (the main heat remains inside the heater, which provides thermal insulation made of fiberglass). Although at first it may seem that it is not very convenient to feed the hot glue stick, it is quite convenient during operation. So if there is a broken hot glue gun, try to convert it into a working thermal syringe.

P.S. Sometimes things, handmade tools seem much more convenient and better than purchased ones. If we compare the thermal gun that I had at the beginning with the thermal syringe that I got after the alteration, I like working with the latter more!
