Do-it-yourself dressing room: drawings and diagrams, photos, useful recommendations for arrangement. How to make a dressing room with your own hands - step-by-step assembly instructions DIY system for a dressing room

It's no secret that clothes love to be treated with care. In addition, diligent owners try to store it in such a way that a dress or suit, coat or cloak is always ready to go - hung cleaned, washed, ironed. Naturally, for such purposes, one cannot do without a special storage. And if earlier for most families it was enough to have a wardrobe in an apartment or house for storage, today, with an increase in incomes and living standards of the population, the range of clothing items has expanded significantly, and there is often not enough space.

Therefore, more and more often, the owners include in the planning of their housing a separate storage room - a dressing room, which solves numerous problems and simplifies the search for the necessary thing. Services for planning and arranging such a room are widely offered by many companies or private craftsmen, however, it will not be cheap at all. Therefore, a comfortable do-it-yourself dressing room can be the best solution to this issue, especially if the budget allocated for home renovation is quite modest. In addition, by creating and implementing a project on your own, you can plan the location of shelves and hangers with maximum convenience for yourself.

Varieties of dressing rooms, and where they can be equipped

The presence of a dressing room in a house or apartment helps free up space from bulky cabinets. And besides, it brings a certain order to life, since all the things of family members are in one place, and they are always easy to find.

However, given the factor that everyone's living space is different both in quantitative terms and in their "geometry", you will have to make an independent choice of the placement and configuration of the dressing room.

Dressing room along the wall

Given the small areas of modern apartments, most often the best option for placing a dressing room is along one of the walls of the hallway, bedroom, and sometimes you have to use the living room.

The convenience of this option consists of several points:

 • Compact placement design.
 • Possibility of arrangement in most apartments.
 • Additional soundproofing of the wall from neighbors.
 • Material savings as the cabinet's vertical lintels can be fixed to the wall without the use of a rear wall.

The disadvantages of the wall storage organization include the following:

 • It is difficult to make a storage of great depth, since in this case it will take up too much space.
 • For the same reason - the difficulty or even impossibility of installing such a dressing room in a narrow hallway.
 • Such storage will not become a separate room in which fittings could be carried out.

However, if it is not possible to allocate space for a separate storage room, a dressing room built along the wall is not the worst option.

Corner wardrobe option

A wardrobe located in the corner of the room is sometimes the only right decision, since the design optimizes the space to a certain extent. So, areas of the walls in the corner, which are usually not used in the interior, can be allocated for such storage. For example, if there is insufficient distance between this corner and a window or doorway to install some necessary piece of furniture, it can be used to create a corner dressing room.

For example, if the bedroom in the apartment has a fairly large area, then the dressing room can be arranged in one of the corners of the room by installing a partition, the outer side of which will simultaneously act as a bookcase. In this way, the space will be ideally optimized.

Another way to use a corner area is to install a wardrobe in it. This option is perfect for the hallway, of course, if it has a sufficient area and a suitable configuration.

For a square hallway, a more compact design of a corner wardrobe is well suited. It is convenient in that it will be possible to enter the cabinet to find the necessary thing. But even such a closet is hardly capable of becoming a fitting room, since there is not enough space in it for this.

So, the positive sides of corner wardrobes are the following:

 • Optimal use of the area of the room, that is, the involvement of zones that, as a rule, remain empty.
 • When installing a partition to highlight the dressing area, this area becomes more functional than it would remain free.
 • The room acquires the original configuration.

Among the disadvantages of this location of the dressing room are:

 • When installing such a partition, the dressing room most often has a small area.
 • When choosing a corner wall cabinet, the dressing room does not have a separate place for fitting.

Dressing room in utility room

In many apartments of multi-storey buildings, both old and new buildings, a storage room is already provided in the layout itself. This is a great success, since such a mini-room may well be equipped with a separate dressing room, especially since there is space for shelving and shelves. Often, such closets are simply littered with rubbish accumulated over the years of living and, in fact, do not perform any useful function. It is worth paying close attention to the available optimization opportunity.

Naturally, it is better if the pantry does not have a window - this way it will be possible to allocate a large area of the walls for shelving and hangers designed for large items. If the pantry is equipped with a window opening, then you will have to more rationally use the surfaces around it.

So, under the window, you can place cabinets or shelves for shoes, and use the countertop-sill above them to store bags or organize a place for ironing on it. Shelves for hats or other boxes, for example, with temporarily stored seasonal shoes, can also be arranged above the window.

Another room in the apartment, which is not always used functionally to the proper degree, is a loggia or balcony. But here it is also quite possible to place a wardrobe, thus freeing up the area directly in the apartment.

However, if this room is chosen for the dressing room, several points should be taken into account, without which its arrangement in a loggia will be impossible:

 • The room should be insulated, and all its surfaces. Naturally, high-quality glazing is required using window systems with double-glazed windows. You will have to think over the heating system, otherwise things will deteriorate and acquire an unpleasant smell from exposure to dampness, which is inevitable on the border of cold and heat.
 • Windows should be opened to ventilate the room, as well as closed with blinds or thick curtains, since sunlight can negatively affect the color of clothes and shoes - things will simply fade. Especially thick curtains will be required if the loggia faces the south side of the house.

Dressing room under the stairs

City apartments rarely boast the presence of a staircase. But in a private two-story house (or having an attic), the space under it, which usually has a good depth, can become a convenient place to store things. various wardrobe options can be equipped - open, as shown in the illustration, closed with hinged or sliding doors, or a block model in which each of the blocks rolls out with the help of wheels. Inside the blocks, shelves or crossbars for hangers can be equipped.

Important - when choosing such a place for arranging a wardrobe, it is necessary to make the ceiling of this space under the stairs very strong and reliable. Just so that when people move up the stairs, dust does not fall on things placed below.

Dressing room behind the partition

If the room has a rectangular shape, then it is quite possible to install a plasterboard partition in its end area, which will separate the main part of the room from the dressing area. If you want to keep the visual spaciousness of the room, this is easily achieved by installing mirrored doors in such a dressing room.

It is not difficult to build a drywall structure, especially since it will not be necessary to collect certificates and permits for its construction. Such a partition has a very small mass and does not weigh down the overlap. So the option is quite suitable for both a private house and an apartment in a high-rise building.

If there is no desire or opportunity to install a solid stationary partition, then a thick curtain can also be used as it. The fabric is hung on a cornice fixed to the ceiling, and a dressing room is equipped behind the curtain. Such a simple enclosing structure will completely hide the storage of things, but it will always be available. In addition, a well-chosen curtain can bring individuality and unusualness to the interior of the room.

This arrangement option is most suitable for the bedroom, since in such an impromptu dressing room you can place not only clothes, but also bed linen. On and not too appropriate, such a storage would be, say, in the living room.

Wardrobe in a separate room

It is realistic to allocate a separate room for a wardrobe only in your own house or in an apartment with a large area.

In a private house, it is recommended to provide a wardrobe room at the design stage of the building. Without words, it is clear that this is the best option, since the storage room can be arranged in a convenient area for the owners of the house. Most often, the wardrobe is adjacent to the bedroom, less often located next to the hallway. In some cases, even two wardrobes are equipped:

 • One is next to the entrance hall, and it stores outerwear, shoes, as well as bags and hats. For this category of things, a wall cabinet is often used.
 • The second wardrobe is arranged in the form of a separate room and is located next to the bedroom. Designed for storing bedding, underwear and other delicate clothing.

It is necessary to separate different categories of things for the reasons that it is somehow out of place to store bedding and underwear in the hallway, since all the dust that enters the housing from the street first falls into this room. Again, storing shoes and underwear in one place is not entirely correct, although in many of the illustrations shown, all shoes are in the same storage with the rest of things.

The shape, size and layout of the wardrobe

The shape and dimensions of the storage

From the information presented above, it becomes clear that the dressing room can have a different configuration - this most often depends on the available possibilities for its arrangement. For example, a corner vault takes a triangular or trapezoidal shape, but for the most part it is a square or rectangular room. It is convenient not only to store things in it, but also to try them on.

As for the size of this room, they directly depend on the area of the apartment or house. But usually the wardrobe occupies 1.2 ÷ 1.5 m² - this is a rectangular room with dimensions of 1.0 × 1.5 m. It should be noted that the corner triangular dressing room with the same area is more spacious than the rectangular version.

A rectangular dressing room, designed for one-sided placement of shelving, must have a width of at least 1200 mm. If you plan to install shelves on two sides of the room, then you need to plan a width of at least 1500 mm. After all, the main difference between a dressing room and an ordinary closet is that you can go into it - this factor should also be taken into account when planning the placement of shelves.

There are several principles of organizing the internal space of the wardrobe. Racks can be installed only along one wall, in a U-shaped or L-shaped pattern. The most rational option is the U-shaped distribution of shelves, as it makes it possible to make the most of the entire space of the room, as well as move around it, in search of the necessary thing. At the same time, it is possible to organize a storage system in this way even in a relatively small area.

If the room (bedroom) has a small area on which it is difficult to allocate and fence off 1500 ÷ 2000 mm, then you will have to confine yourself to a wardrobe installed along one of the walls. This option does not take up much space and has a well-thought-out distribution of internal space.

In the same situation, when a dressing room has to be organized in a walk-through room, for example, in a hallway, then the best option would be to place the racks along parallel walls. In this case, so that the room does not look messy, it is recommended to equip the shelves with doors. The parallel placement of the shelves will not make it difficult to move around this room, but the capacity of the cabinets will be maximum.

Dressing room doors

Due to the fact that every centimeter is usually saved when arranging a dressing room, the doors for this room or closet should not take up much space when they are opened and closed.

If the area of the next room allows, then you can use the simplest and most familiar hinged door design. It is quite convenient, since when you open the doors you can see the whole room and things laid out on the shelves.

Another version of the doors is an "accordion", that is, when it is opened, the wings fold together. The option is quite interesting, but its installation will also require a certain space in the room adjacent to the wardrobe. In addition, the scheme itself is quite difficult to implement by an inexperienced master.

Therefore, the most preferred design, which does not take up extra space, are sliding doors, such as those installed on wardrobes. At the same time, for comfortable operation of the storage, it is recommended to choose doors that open both in one and in the second direction. The sashes of such doors often have mirrored inserts, which is convenient when trying on clothes.

The design of compartment doors is also not very simple. But with diligence, and even more so - when using special sets of metal profiles and the necessary fittings, installation is quite feasible to do on your own, without involving a master from outside.

Is it difficult to make and install compartment doors on your own?

Sets of special accessories and special aluminum profiles make this task quite feasible for any owner who knows how to handle a basic set of tools. A detailed illustrated, with all the necessary calculations, the reader on the pages of our portal.

Whatever door is chosen for the wardrobe, in terms of design, it must still correspond to the overall design of the room into which it opens.

In some cases, instead of doors to close the dressing room, thick curtains of the appropriate design are used.

Shelving organization

The number of things that can be placed in it, as well as the convenience of finding what you need, depends on how ergonomically the space in the dressing room is organized. Therefore, there are certain rules that it is advisable to follow when creating your own project for storing clothes and shoes.

Shelves or wardrobe are divided into several levels:

 • The lower level of racks, as a rule, is reserved for storing shoes - this part of the structure is made in the form of inclined, and sometimes retractable shelves. The height of these departments is 300 mm for summer shoes and 400÷450 mm for winter shoes.

It should be clarified that some dressing room owners prefer to allocate not one lower tier for shoes, but a whole section of the rack, placing it from floor to ceiling.

 • The middle tier of other shelving compartments is most often used to equip the crossbars for hangers with shirts, trousers or skirts. The height of these departments can vary from 870 to 1000 mm.

 • Next comes the tier, where drawers or shelves can be installed, on which medium-sized wardrobe items will be stored. In the middle tier, pantographs or rods are equipped for longer items - dresses, coats, raincoats, etc. The height of this compartment can be from 1400 to 1700 mm. It is convenient to put knitwear in baskets or on shelves, which are also located in the same tier with the things mentioned above.

 • The upper tier of the racks is reserved for storing items of periodic or seasonal use - suitcases, bags, hats, pillows, blankets, etc. Some of these items are stored in boxes or baskets.

In modern designs of racks and cabinets used in the dressing room, various holders, press hangers, boxes for small items, metal mesh baskets are used, which are convenient for storing knitwear, socks, underwear, etc.

Dressing room ventilation

The dressing room is most often a closed unventilated room in which there are no windows. Therefore, it has to organize its own ventilation. Otherwise, over time, a musty smell will appear in the room itself, which will soak all the clothes. And getting rid of it is a rather difficult task, even with the help of the strongest perfumes and deodorants.

Ventilation is planned at the stage of drawing up a dressing room project. It was then that it was necessary to find the best option for organizing it or connecting it to a common ventilation system.

The principle of arranging ventilation in the dressing room is identical to the ventilation system in any of the rooms. Exhaust vents are planned in the ceiling surface or in the upper part of the walls. These vents are connected by air ducts to the ventilation system of the house or have their own exhaust duct that opens vertically to the street. Sometimes, if necessary, an exhaust fan is installed. The inflow of air into the room is provided through the cracks under the door or through windows specially equipped in the lower part of the door leaf, closed with decorative grilles or overlays.

The air exchange organized in this way maintains a normal microclimate in the dressing room.

When choosing a fan for installation in a dressing room, you should pay attention to the noise level during its operation. This room most often borders on the bedroom, so noise should be kept to a minimum. The fan can be controlled by automation or by a pass-through switch.

Lighting in the dressing room

A room that does not have natural light in which things are stored requires the use of a considerable amount of lighting fixtures. This is necessary in order to make it easier to find the necessary thing, and then try on.

An excellent help in organizing lighting is the presence of a large mirror in the dressing room, which enhances the luminous flux coming from electrical appliances. An important point in achieving a comfortable atmosphere is the choice of the color of the walls, ceiling, as well as cabinets, shelves and racks. So, if all surfaces have light shades, they will also enhance the brightness of the lighting.

Due to the fact that there should be a lot of lighting devices in this small room, it is worth thinking about their efficiency. You should not count on the use of conventional incandescent lamps, as they not only consume a large amount of electricity compared to their counterparts, but also do not last long enough. In addition, the high heating temperatures of such lamps make their use unsafe under the conditions under consideration.

The best option for illuminating shelves will be either tubes that give bright, but not eye-catching light, are designed for a long service life and are economical in terms of energy consumption.

You should not choose massive chandeliers for the upper light, or pendant lamps hanging from the ceiling by more than 250 ÷ 300 mm. It’s just that during the fitting they can easily be touched with raised hands. The most suitable lamps for this room will be point models built into the false ceiling of the room, as well as directly into the shelves.

Additionally, the lighting in the dressing room can be equipped with a motion sensor, which will save you from lighting the light with a conventional switch - it will light up when the doors are opened and turn off when they are closed. The motion sensor can be tied to the entire lighting system, and another option is to purchase ready-made luminaires with a built-in sensor.

DIY wardrobe room

Self-arrangement of a dressing room will allow you to get a practical and ergonomic space for storing most of the necessary things at minimal cost. In addition, when creating a project with your own hands, it becomes possible to create a comfortable placement of shelves and cabinets for each dressing room owner.

What materials are most commonly used

To begin with, it is worth determining what materials a dressing room and shelving can be built from inside the space of the room.

 • The frame of the partition wall is usually mounted from metal profiles or wooden beams. This design will not have a serious additional load on the floor (overlap).
 • The walls of the room, as well as the frame of the partition, can be sheathed with plasterboard or plywood (fiberboard, OSB) sheets.

It is preferable to use for frame sheathing, since this material is "breathable", therefore it does not accumulate moisture and counteracts the formation of unpleasant odors. Yes, and with the environment he is more safe than with wooden composites.

 • To fill the space of the dressing room, ready-made cabinets, as well as self-assembled racks or cabinets, can be used. The frame for racks is also made of metal profiles, pipes or wooden beams.

It should be noted that the manufacture of a frame from galvanized metal profiles is not the best option for small spaces. It will definitely have to be sheathed on both sides with drywall or other sheet material. The design will certainly look neat, but it will take up too much useful space.

 • On sale you can find perforated metal profiles specially designed for forming frames for shelves - usually it is with the help of such parts that shelves are assembled in stores. These guides are fixed directly on the walls of the dressing room. After that, ready-made lightweight shelf structures or brackets for mounting the crossbars are installed in the figured holes of the profiles - they have the corresponding hooks. Such systems are the best option, especially for small spaces. Convenience is also in the “flexibility” of such a design - if desired, you can easily change both the number and height of the shelves.

 • Another option for creating a frame for shelves is metal tubes, interconnected by special fasteners and holders, with which they are also fixed on the wall. A fairly wide range of fittings for such tubular structures of varying degrees of complexity is on sale.
 • Shelves of racks are often made of chipboard, but it must be borne in mind that this is a rather heavy material that requires a reliable frame. You can also use well-crafted thin boards or plywood 10 mm thick to create shelves.

Usually, if the dressing room is created by one's own hands, any suitable material available in the home "stores" is used to fill it. Often, old furniture is disassembled and used for this purpose - it can be cabinets or cabinets. In order for all this variety of material to look neat upon completion of the work, it is recommended to paint the finished structure in one light color.

Create a project

Whatever the construction of the dressing room is supposed to be, work on its creation begins with the development of a project, taking into account the materials that are planned to be used.

The project is a drawing made according to the dimensions of the place where the dressing room will be organized. In order to know what a drawing project might look like, several options will be considered next.

When creating a project, it is not at all necessary to draw things that will be stored in one or another compartment of the structure, but it is advisable to sign their location. So it will be easier to imagine and decide how convenient it will be to use shelves and hangers. In addition, without fail, all distances between structural elements are affixed on the drawing. After such a substantive study of the scheme, you can immediately compile a list of all the necessary materials, parts, special components, indicating their required quantity.

 • Wall-mounted wardrobe. This wardrobe option is suitable for installation in the hallway or bedroom. A wardrobe is used if it is impossible to equip a separate room or a fenced-off space for storing things. In such conditions, such a piece of furniture will solve numerous problems, freeing up the area of other rooms.
 • This version of the project involves the organization, although small, but a separate dressing room. In the example shown, the depth of the dressing room is 1100÷1200 mm and its width is 2200÷2500 mm. That is, this project can be reproduced in the end part of the bedroom or another room bordering the rest room. You can fit cabinets or even a cabinet of suitable parameters into the project.

 • The third version of the project shown involves the use of an area of 2000 × 1600 mm. Such racks can be installed both in the open, that is, without the construction of partition walls, and inside the dressing room. Wardrobes have a large number of functional departments, including drawers, shelves, departments for storing outerwear and underwear.

Based on the presented parameters, you can create a complex of racks from different materials without using the side panels of the structure.

Option for making shelving for a dressing room using pipes

From what you can build a partition for the dressing room, it was described above. In addition, our website contains a lot of publications with information about working with drywall. Therefore, this section will describe the option of making shelving in a room already separated by a partition. And the frame for the racks will be metal pipes. Moreover, in the example under consideration, there are ordinary VGP pipes at all.

How to mount a light partition indoors?

By the way, a frame structure followed by plasterboard sheathing is not the only option. There are other, moreover, very interesting and accessible technologies for independent use. About all this - in a special publication of our portal.

For the manufacture of this design, any of the above projects can be taken, or compiled independently.

To work, you will need some tools that, as a rule, can be found in the "arsenal" of any home workshop:

 • Construction level, tape measure, marker for marking.
 • Electric drill,
 • Grinding machine with a disc for metal.
 • Pliers, hammer, wrench.
 • and electric jigsaw.

From the materials for mounting the design shown as an example, you will need to prepare:

 • Metal pipes with a diameter of 20 mm, which will become the supporting parts of the frame structure being created.
 • Flanges for pipes - for fastening racks and jumpers to the floor, ceiling, walls.

 • Holders for installation of crossbeams for hangers.
 • Connectors for the nodes of the perpendicular junction of pipes and other fittings necessary for the project.

Chipboard, plywood 10÷12 mm thick or boards for the manufacture of shelves and drawers.

Furniture accessories - corners, guides, hinges, handles, etc.

Boxes and baskets for storage.

Self-tapping screws for fixing structural parts to walls, floors and ceilings.

Having prepared everything you need, you can proceed to the first stage of work:

 • The first step is to revise the walls of the dressing room and, if necessary, make repairs - sheathing with plasterboard or plywood, painting or wallpapering. This process is best done before the frame is installed, while the wall surfaces are free and easily accessible. Sheathing should be mounted directly on the walls, so they should be relatively even. Drywall is fixed on brick walls with a special adhesive, then additionally fixed with self-tapping screws. On wooden walls, both plywood and drywall are screwed with self-tapping screws, the caps of which are recessed into the material “under the net”.

 • At the same stage, ventilation is arranged, and electrical cables are laid for the installation of ceiling lights. All these communications are closed by a suspended ceiling, into which spotlights usually crash. Thanks to this design, all the unsightly moments associated with fixing the wiring and ventilation ducts are hidden. The only disadvantage of a suspended ceiling for a dressing room is that it will not be possible to securely fasten rack racks to it.
 • Further, according to the draft, taking into account all the dimensions affixed to it, markings are made on the walls. It should be sufficiently clear and accurate, since the evenness of the arrangement of racks and shelves will depend on the correctness of its application.

 • The next step is to assemble the racks and jumpers for arranging the racks. In this example, the master decided to use ordinary VGP steel pipes. Connections are carried out according to the threaded socket principle using standard tees and bends. Pipe flanges are used to fasten the racks to the wall.

For assembly, you will either have to purchase pipe sections of the required length with already threaded threads, or cut them yourself. This, in principle, is also not particularly difficult if you purchase or rent a klupp (ratchet) and a die of the appropriate diameter. A long threaded section at the end of the pipe is not needed - 12 ÷ 15 mm is enough.

When using furniture pipes, threading is not required - all connecting nodes are mounted using the appropriate parts tightened with screws.

 • In order for the design to look aesthetically pleasing, and rust does not appear on the pipes, they should be coated. It is best to carry out this process by spraying with paint in an aerosol can.
 • Finished metal structures, according to the drawn lines and marking points, are fixed to the wall and to the floor. The horizontally arranged parts of the frame will serve as a support for mounting the shelves. After the fasteners are marked on the wall for the frame, the frame is disassembled for their further installation together with the wooden shelves.
 • The vertical parts of the frame are connected to each other through a tee. Before assembling the next connecting unit, they are threaded through the drilled holes on the racks. These shelves at the rack rest on the body of the tee, and at the wall - on upward bends, screwed to the horizontal bars, due to which they occupy a horizontal position. So, starting from the first tier, the entire rack is gradually assembled.
 • In the same way, slowly, step by step, the rest of the racks are assembled. And then they are fastened together with jumpers. These jumpers will perfectly cope with the role of crossbeams for hangers.

Pipe sections with flanges are screwed to the upper ends of the racks through the bends for final fixation to the wall. A very high reliability of all connections is achieved. And at the same time - if necessary, such a design will not last long and disassemble, modernize, increase or decrease the number of shelves, etc.

 • In this case, the finished design looks like the one shown in the illustration. The free space between the shelves can be used to install a finished cabinet or to mount a large mirror.

Easier shelving option

If there is no opportunity or desire to mess around with connecting pipe sections, and enough chipboard has accumulated in the home storerooms to make shelves, then you can use another option.

In the furniture fittings store, you can purchase special corner holders-brackets, which are fixed on the wall, and pre-prepared shelves are laid and fixed on top of them. This way of forming a structure is much simpler. Moreover, you can start collecting racks from a finished piece of furniture - a pencil case or cabinet, "tying" the rest of the structural elements to it and the wall.

The preliminary work, before starting to fix the shelves on the walls, is identical to the first option for arranging the wardrobe with shelving on pipes.

We deliberately do not dwell on the independent manufacture of cabinets from chipboard or MDF furniture panels - a separate detailed publication is devoted to this on our website.

How to make built-in furniture yourself?

It is sometimes scary for an inexperienced home master to take on such a task - the fear of failure overpowers. But there is no need to worry - there is nothing supernaturally complicated in this. About the technology, including - a wardrobe for a dressing room - in a special publication of our portal.

* * * * * * *

So, above were just a few simple options that can be used to create a personal dressing room. However, when arranging a room for storing things, much will depend on the characteristics of a particular room. Therefore, when creating a project, it is necessary to take into account not only the size of the allocated area, but also the materials from which the walls and floors are built.

And information about the basic principles of organization and the stages of creating a dressing room will greatly facilitate both the design and implementation of the plan.

Currently, huge walls, massive wardrobes and all kinds of cabinets fade into the background, remaining in the shadow of modern design solutions. Such a functional area as a dressing room can help rationally decompose and fit a large number of different things. It was she who absorbed all the functions of an ordinary wardrobe or wardrobe.

The dressing room, as a rule, is not universal, since such a room requires special attention. It must match the taste preferences of the owner. In order for this zone to really suit the owners, it is necessary to consider some of its features and properties.

Properties

In order to create a dressing room with your own hands, you need to make sure that it is really necessary for the available space. Such a zone is undoubtedly the dream of every girl and not only. It holds a huge amount of things that can not fit in a regular closet, things in it are arranged in order and laid out in plain sight, and here you can change your clothes privately.

Also, the dressing room has a huge number of features that need to be mentioned.

 • You can easily find any thing in it, because the clothes are laid out on specially designed shelves, hangers and drawers.
 • This zone is the focus of absolutely all things placed depending on the typical characteristics.
 • Items or things that are rarely used in everyday life easily fit on the outermost shelves and do not distract attention.

 • Having made a dressing room, you can save a lot, since the issue of purchasing several cabinets and shelves is postponed.
 • If such a functional area is selected with the calculation of all characteristics, it will serve the owner for a single year.
 • It adapts to the interior of any room and can be located both in the passage area and in the attic.
 • Its internal content is planned individually.
 • It can accommodate fairly large items, such as an ironing board, vacuum cleaner or clothes dryer.

Kinds

Few people do not want to have a dressing room in their apartment. Many people think that it is an unaffordable luxury, but this is just a delusion. Currently, anyone can afford a room that significantly saves space and brings together all the things that have not found a place in a small closet.

To choose the right layout, you just need to decide on the design of the dressing room and choose one of the appropriate types.

 • Linear. This view looks very similar to a large and long wardrobe. Such a dressing room is fenced off with a plasterboard wall and doors - an ordinary sliding, thick curtain, or it is not fenced off at all.

 • Angular. This type of functional area will fit perfectly into any free corner and will be no less practical. Here you can also fit shelves, drawers and hangers, which were placed in a separate dressing room. In addition, personally ordered corner boxes will be considered an addition.

 • Parallel. This type is only suitable for passage rooms or for a wide corridor. It provides for a parallel arrangement of two cabinets filled with clothes. This will include a large number of things, it will fit the outerwear of the whole family.

 • U-shaped. This option is suitable for those who have a long bedroom. It can be visually divided into two parts: in one, there will be a built-in wardrobe on the entire wall, in the other - a bed with bedside tables. By arranging everything in this way, you can balance the room, make it more symmetrical and furnish the room as tightly as possible.

It should be noted that when drawing up the design of the dressing room, it is necessary to divide it into several parts:

 • for outerwear;
 • for everyday wear;
 • for shoes;
 • for private dressing

Dimensions

Ordinary cabinets visually appear large and massive, unlike dressing rooms that have sufficient capacity and light appearance. They can be located both in the bedroom and in the living room, or, for example, in the corridor. Thus, in one place you can collect the entire family wardrobe, even if this area is small.

This is not to say that small dressing rooms are useless and optional. They also hold a certain amount of clothes, but it all depends on how much and what exactly will be placed in them.

There is a long-established shape in the form of a rectangle. It is this zone that is intended for dressing one person and, in fact, the things themselves. This small room requires special attention when arranging, because you need to take into account the location of the mirror and the pouffe so that they do not interfere.

The most successful and practical placement of a mini-dressing room is a bedroom or a 2x2 attic. With the help of it, the room will become light, harmonious in all plans and, importantly, comfortable. It will fit perfectly in a niche in which hangers and various boxes for shoes or other items can easily fit.

Also, the original option would be placement around the perimeter of the wall. Sliding doors for this small space can be made of glass or wood.

In order to save extra square meters of the bedroom, a dressing room can be installed in the corner. It will be not only practical and rather convenient option, but also quite stylish and textured. If a small amount is allocated for such a zone, an excellent solution would be to divide the room in half by means of a thick curtain, behind which there will be a specially designated place for storing clothes.

For a room with 4 sq. m or 3 sq. m, the space for free walking is limited. It can comfortably accommodate only one person. With such dimensions, you need to pay attention to every detail in order to complete all items as much as possible. The taboo in this small space is superimposed on bulky items, because they simply cannot find a place. You need to use everything: from floor to ceiling. And to save a couple of free centimeters, shelves located almost under the ceiling will help, in which things will fit that cannot be used, but it's a pity to throw them away.

For those who love order, an open 2x2 dressing room is suitable, it will help save the budget, because there is no need to spend money on a partition in the form of a door or curtains. And for those who store heaps of things and try to fit them in one space, a closed dressing room will be a great helper, behind the door of which no one will see a huge pile of clothes.

You can design a functional area for things even in a room of 2 square meters. m, because for him you can make a practical and comfortable dressing room. The main thing is to calculate everything to the smallest detail and properly equip it.

A great solution would be to place a dressing room in a room of 18 meters, and this is usually a bedroom or living room. It is necessary to create the design of this zone in accordance with the interior of the room itself, you need to take into account every detail and responsibly approach the color scheme and light. If there is a desire to increase the available space, you can attach mirrors to the sliding doors of the dressing room, thereby visually adding a couple of square meters to the room.

The functional area of 3x4 meters is quite roomy. It fits various rods, drawers, hangers, trousers, shoe baskets, shelves, sections for items such as an ironing board or vacuum cleaner and, of course, a mirror. The layout here should be comfortable and convenient, and a soft pouffe can add an extra particle of comfort.

materials

With the acquisition of a dressing room, a huge number of problems are solved: saving space, the appearance of a place for changing clothes and keeping personal belongings from prying eyes. You can make such a comfortable and multifunctional zone with your own hands, the main thing is to study the construction technique in detail, read the basics of organization and make out what exactly this construction is made of.

From drywall

To build a drywall dressing room is a rather bold, but at the same time, a reasonable decision, since with the help of this material you can choose any size of the planned area, fill it with a different number of shelves. In order not to make mistakes during manufacturing, you must strictly follow the steps:

 • To get started, measure the area chosen to accommodate the future dressing room.
 • Decide for yourself or write down on a piece of paper a list of ideas and concepts that you would like to implement.
 • From a number of all the listed options, choose one and refine it so that the design of this functional area fits the interior design.

 • Execute the drawn up schemes and calculations.
 • Purchase sheets of drywall in accordance with the dimensions and markup.
 • Cut out the main parts.
 • Make a frame out of metal structures.
 • Sheathe this frame with the cut pieces of drywall.
 • Finish the installation by decorating the outer part of the resulting zone.

Mesh

For those who want to quickly decorate and change the space of a room, building a mesh dressing room is suitable. It is this way of solving the problem of lack of space for clothes that is less expensive and very fast. Mesh zones are able to bring lightness and airiness into the room, which, at times, is so lacking. Outwardly, this design looks quite original, since it consists of many small compartments that will fit most of the available clothes.

Such wardrobes have a number of advantages and features. They are widely used because they are attractive and affordable, have many modifications, colors, are very easy to install, can be retrofitted and, in the end, look stylish and original.

Chipboard

The area made of chipboard or chipboard is convenient, but not universal, since the shelves are already built into the frame and cannot be rearranged. But, despite this, this design has many features. Chipboard is a relatively inexpensive material, unlike aluminum frames. You can also save a lot, for example, on a trouser case by replacing such a branded accessory with a regular barbell or shelf.

The wooden structure looks gentle, besides, it can be chosen in different colors.

Plywood

Such material is very durable and wear-resistant, and is often used for the manufacture of partitions. It has a low price, so everyone can afford it. In addition, plywood is easy to use, and cutting it does not require experience and professional materials. It is versatile and easily changes shape without even deforming.

Wood

The wooden wardrobe system has an aesthetic and rich look. It is pleasant and comfortable to be in it. Such an area is usually separated from the main room by sliding doors that can hide everything that is there. In addition, wood is an environmentally friendly material, it does not harm health and, thanks to its characteristics, will last for many years.

OSB

Such material is produced by gluing and pressing shavings of coniferous trees. It is resistant to fire, does not have any defects, and has excellent sound insulation performance. OSB is very often used in decoration, because it has an inexpensive cost and, importantly, does not react to moisture in any way.

Veneer

These are thin sheets having a woody structure. Since the tree has a rather expensive cost, veneer, which is as close as possible to it, will be an excellent replacement. It is worth noting that natural veneer is also not cheap. If the budget for the purchase of material is modest, artificial veneer can help, which looks no worse.

Accommodation options

In order to properly and wisely arrange the dressing room, you must, first of all, navigate and compare the area of the room in which this zone will be located. Even if the room is small, you can fit such a functional system into it.

In order not to wonder where to equip the dressing room, you need to consider several options for successful placement.

From the pantry

You can build a spacious dressing room from an ordinary pantry, since it is already separated by a door and equipped with electricity. The advantage is that you do not need to think about where to place such a zone, because the space for the former storage room has long been predetermined in terms of the apartment. A typical pantry has an area of 2 square meters. m, which will be perfect for a spacious dressing room. If you have come to the conclusion to change the space in the apartment in this way, then this is really the right and right decision.

In the bedroom

The bedroom, like any other room, requires free space. To do this, it is necessary to plan the placement of the dressing room so that there is enough space for a comfortable stay. If the room is spacious enough, it will easily fit a large functional area for clothes with sliding doors.

If the bedroom is small, you can resort to zoning. It is the open system that will not visually reduce the space and help save extra meters. Hangers and shelves nailed to the wall will add coziness to the room, and decorative drawers will bring some neatness.

You can also fit a dressing room in a niche, this option will not look massive and heavy. The internal filling for this type of solution can be selected and designed independently, it all depends only on personal preferences and taste characteristics.

Optionally, you can make a multifunctional partition in the form of a screen, which can be completely removed, thereby making the dressing room open.

In "Khrushchev"

Apartments built during the time of the colorful Soviet statesman are distinguished by the presence of a niche. Its conversion into a dressing room will be an original and practical solution. Usually such a room is very small, and standard furniture is unlikely to fit. Custom-made furniture will help to get out of this situation, in which each owner can embody any design idea.

In the hall

If this room has a small area, it will make an excellent corner version of the dressing room, which will fit a sufficient amount of clothing for the whole family. The same practical solution would be to create an open area in the corridor, but if there is a niche for this. Shelves, drawers, hangers or decorative metal tubes can be placed in it.

In a private house

It is necessary to place such a functional area next to the bedroom, as it is very convenient. It is also necessary to take into account that it is desirable to arrange it so that each member of the family does not feel discomfort and can freely get into it. As a rule, frequent houses have a large enough living area and the same spacious rooms that fit a dressing room of any type and size.

And if the building has two floors, such a zone will fit perfectly under the stairs and save space.

In the bathroom

The bathroom, as a rule, has a fairly small area. In order to make the most of the available space, you can independently build a small open-type dressing room. Metal rods will help in its creation, on which you can hang towels and other things, and a lot of decorative boxes where various cosmetics will fit.

In a panel house

A panel house is not distinguished by the presence of large and roomy rooms that would be able to accommodate a huge functional area for storing things, but it is quite possible to equip a small one. It is important to know and remember that it must be equipped with ventilation so that the clothes do not acquire a specific smell, and good lighting. To arrange the required number of things, you can draw a layout plan that distributes them correctly.

in the attic

This type of room has a specific shape, because of which it is necessary to think through every detail of the dressing room in order to avoid mistakes. One of the best locations is the location under the slope of the roof, as it is practically not used and, in most cases, just empty. The same excellent solution will be the corner option, which can save as much as possible the area of and so small-sized space.

If the attic is large enough, a dressing room can be placed by the window - this will make it convenient for changing clothes and very cozy.

In a one-room apartment

Many owners of such apartments prefer a functional wardrobe system rather than conventional wardrobes. It can make a room textured and stylish, but there are key points to consider. Depending on the geometry of the room, it is necessary to choose one of the types of existing systems, the main thing is that it looks harmonious. To expand an already small apartment, a dressing room in light neutral colors with existing mirrors will help. With proper design, it will be possible to fit in it not only things, but also household appliances (for example, a vacuum cleaner)

In the country

With the help of the functional area located in the country house, you can not hide things in suitcases, but put them in their places or hang them on hangers. With the help of it, they will have a well-groomed appearance and will not wrinkle, even if the stay in the house turns out to be short.

under the stairs

Such a zone, located under the stairs, will help to maximize the use of the space of the house or apartment. An integral plus is that not only clothes can be placed in such a room, but also items that are used quite rarely, as well as large household items.

Layout with dimensions

Many people think that arranging a dressing room in a small apartment is an unacceptable decision. But it should be noted that an ordinary closet in a small room looks much more massive. In order to avoid such an erroneous judgment, you only need to correctly compose and design the design of the future functional area. If the apartment consists of large rooms, a separate spacious room should be allocated for the dressing room.

At the initial stage of creation, you need to know the rules that will help you plan its placement correctly. Next, you need to draw on paper a drawing of the desired dressing room, after dividing it into four zones. The first should be calculated for outerwear, the second for short, the third for hats and the fourth for shoes.

When creating such a space, it is advisable to look at ready-made schemes and plans that are as similar as possible to the zonal arrangement of rooms in your apartment. Various samples of dressing rooms, as well as ready-made ideas that are as close as possible to your taste preferences, will also push you to the right decision.

Arrangement and filling

Currently, there are a huge number of ways with which you can equip any room. A zone in the form of a dressing room saves space in the entire apartment, deprives it of huge overweight wardrobes, and brings order to the entire space of the apartment. You can decide which design to use and purchase the right equipment yourself, but not without absorbing some of the ideas and tips presented below.

A compartment door will look very original and interesting in the dressing room. She will create a structure that visually separates the room, but at the same time, resembles a closet. Sliding doors, as a rule, have many advantages and disadvantages. They, unlike swing ones, do not take up much space, because they have a roller mechanism that moves in the direction to the right or left.

In addition, it can be easily decorated and decorated by resorting, for example, to photo printing or airbrushing. Another important aspect is that such doors are safe and easy to install.

The storage area can be made in various variations and in any room. But whatever it may be, its content should represent the maximum number of necessary devices. It can be shelves, various boxes or a separate rack. Among the storage systems, the main ones can be distinguished:

 • case;
 • panel;
 • frame;
 • mesh.

In general, the design is a separate room with departments and sections for different types of clothing or shoes. It should be noted that the most practical and multifunctional system is a panel one, since it hides various wall defects, moreover, it can be easily moved.

In order for the internal content of this zone to be maximally involved, it is necessary to calculate the number of racks placed in it, in addition, mini-cabinets that help save space will be an excellent addition.

How to do it yourself?

If a family consists of more than three family members, it simply needs such a functional area as a dressing room. A great option would be to allocate a separate room for her, but if the area of the apartment does not allow this, you can enclose a certain part in one of the rooms. As you know, ordinary cabinet furniture, old or new, is not suitable for such a zone; a combined modular version that can be assembled and disassembled by yourself will look more rational.

Also, to save space, sliding doors, curtains or screens that cover the internal filling of the dressing room are perfect.

There are various ways to create such a functional area. For example, a great option would be to make it from drywall.

This is one of the functional options that will make a separate room out of the dressing room and hide all things from prying eyes. In order to independently carry out construction at home, you need to take into account several useful points:

 1. The outerwear compartment should be 110 cm high.
 2. For warm clothes - more than 140 cm.
 3. For shoes, the height and width of the seat is calculated by the formula - the height of the largest accessory plus 10 cm.
 4. Shelves for linen should be 40-50 cm.

It is impossible to miss the aspect that the internal content also has its own characteristics and schemes. The following options for the correct placement of shelves and other parts will help you maximize the use of space.

To make it as comfortable as possible for use will be able to place the structure around the perimeter of the wall, U-shaped and L-shaped placement.

In order to build a dressing room, it is not necessary to seek help from the masters. It is only necessary to delve into the essence of the matter in more detail, and step-by-step instructions will help in this.

 • First you need to mark the room reserved for the future space intended for storing clothes. Next, we reinforce the profile frame with self-tapping screws.
 • We attach drywall sheets to the resulting structure from all sides, we hide various communications behind them.
 • We putty the holes. Further, decorative finishing is carried out in the form of painting the internal walls or gluing wallpaper.
 • Laying purchased flooring. It can have a different structure, it all depends on the personal wishes of the owners.

When finishing work is completed, the dressing room is supplied with various drawers, shelves and hangers.

 • We install the door or a screen that matches the interior design.
 • The next stage is the installation of lighting and ventilation. so that the clothes do not acquire a musty smell. Window ventilation is also necessary, moreover, it has many advantages. It is in a closed space without ventilation that microorganisms form in the form of a fungus, due to which the air acquires a fetid odor. After wearing, things and shoes acquire a specific smell, and in order for it to disappear, daily airing will help. It must be borne in mind that with improper air circulation, wet clothes tend to deteriorate.

The problem of storing personal belongings occupies an important place in the organization of living space. Traditionally, wardrobes are used for this purpose, but a dressing room can be a much more convenient solution. And it is not at all necessary to allocate a large room for clothes - any corner with an area of 2 sq.m. The rational design of the dressing room will ensure the effective use of each free area, allowing you to forget about bulky wardrobes, chests of drawers and mezzanines.

Dressing room in the bedroom

In houses and apartments where a separate dressing room was not provided initially, it is easiest to arrange it in the bedroom, separating it with sliding compartment doors or any other wall. The role of a barrier can be performed even by a high (up to the ceiling) cabinet or a rack with a passage.

A partition made of darkened matte glass with sandblasted patterns will look very modern. The advantages of this option are the environmental friendliness of the material, its ability to transmit sunlight and the minimum thickness.

Arranging a dressing room in the bedroom of a non-standard shape will balance the geometry of the room. Behind the screen, it is easy to hide the excessive length of the walls, the presence of niches or ledges, using each feature of the architecture to the fullest.

Dressing room in the pantry

Even in very small apartments, where there can be no question of a special room for clothes, at least 1-2 sq.m. sometimes reserved for storage. Often this space is ignored, but if desired, it can be easily turned into a comfortable dressing room.

It is worth supplementing the usual 1x1 m niche with a mezzanine, narrow side shelves, lower drawers and metal rods, and it will be a great alternative to an expensive wardrobe, which would still have nowhere to put it.

The presence of a larger pantry opens up wide planning possibilities, but requires a thoughtful approach to the location of storage systems. It is also very important to take care of sufficient ventilation of the room, protection of things from moisture, insects, animals and odors.

Dressing room layout

Depending on the area, the location of door and window openings, the number of things and the owners' own preferences, the layout of the dressing room can be done in different ways. Each of the presented options is characterized by certain features that make it suitable for a particular type of room.

linear layout

It resembles a familiar closet, with the only difference being that there are either no doors at all, or a floor-to-ceiling partition is installed instead, and inside there is free space to move along the shelves. This arrangement of the dressing room is ideal for installation in a rectangular room along a blank wall or around a doorway.

Parallel layout

The optimal solution for elongated corridor-type rooms, with a window or a large mirror opposite the door. In this case, the shelves and hangers are located on opposite walls, so that all things remain in sight, they are easy to get to, and the spaciousness of such a dressing room can only be envied.

The presence of a window opening solves the issue with ventilation and daylight, so it is a parallel layout that can be recommended during the initial design of a dressing room in the drawing of an apartment or house.

U-shaped layout

It is one of the most convenient options for arranging large dressing rooms. To make it convenient to use the side walls, the central part must have a length of at least 1.5 m.

In such a room there is room for an ironing board, a chair (and sometimes even a small sofa) and a mirror, which makes it a comfortable fitting room.

corner layout

Allows efficient use of space in rooms with limited space - bedrooms, hallways, children's rooms, attics. Placing storage systems at an angle of 90° gives you the opportunity to store twice the amount of things compared to a conventional line cabinet.

You can separate the dressing room using sliding compartment doors - both standard and radius (semicircular). For high rooms, plasterboard or plywood partitions with a doorway are suitable, curtains and screens are different.

Arrangement of storage systems

Before furnishing the dressing room with furniture, it must be prepared taking into account all the requirements. First, it must be a completely dry, ventilated area. It is undesirable to store clothes through the wall with a bathroom, kitchen or in the outer corner of the building, especially if it gets wet and is poorly lit by the sun. In the absence of a window, a ventilation opening with a fan will help to organize the correct microclimate, which will turn on automatically at specified intervals.

The second important criterion is isolation from extraneous odors. To give things a pleasant aroma, you can put pillows or bags with dry herbs to them: lavender, mint, linden flowers. Essential oils of plants will also protect clothes from the appearance of moths and other insects, and in order to protect your favorite wardrobe items from encroachment by pets, you should tightly close the lower shelves and doors.

As for the storage systems themselves, you can either buy ready-made designs, or purchase components and do the installation yourself. The choice of wardrobes in furniture stores is quite wide: from luxurious cabinets made of lacquered solid wood to chipboard and plain plywood. The utilitarian purpose of the room does not set high criteria for the aesthetics of shelving and hangers, but the quality of fittings, moving elements and fasteners should be given the closest attention.

To ensure a convenient arrangement of things, it is necessary to consider the required number and size of certain compartments. For example, in a women's wardrobe, the height of the hangers should accommodate floor-length dresses, which is at least 1.6-1.8 m. The same height is recommended for outerwear. For jackets, shirts, 1.2 m will be enough. The optimal size of the shelves is 30-35 cm. The depth of the cabinets is calculated based on the width of the shoulders, and can vary from 50 to 70 cm.

The upper part of the dressing room is often left for storing seasonal items, suitcases, pillows and blankets. Above eye level, you can arrange shelves for hats, bags, umbrellas, gloves. The middle sections are occupied by hangers and shelves, under them there are chests of drawers with drawers for linen, at the very bottom there are nets and boxes with shoes. The latter is conveniently stored in an inclined form, at an angle of 45-60 °, as well as in rotating radial structures.

The right wardrobe lighting will make it easier to find the right thing. For natural color reproduction, it is desirable to choose a neutral or warm white spectrum of lamps. In addition to the bright overhead light, spot LEDs that can be mounted in shelves will not interfere. Instead of ordinary lamps in the dressing room, small spotlights will be appropriate, the direction of which can be changed at your discretion.

Useful extras

In addition to storage systems in the form of shelving, drawers and hangers in the dressing room, you can not do without other auxiliary items. What exactly do you need to comfortably and quickly put together an image for work, walking or going out?

Ironing board- when folded, no one will notice it, especially if you hide this useful thing in a narrow niche between the sections of the wardrobe. Additionally, you need to install an outlet and find a place for an iron, while strictly observing fire safety rules.

Folding ladder needed to get the right thing from the upper "floors". And if an ordinary chair or stool can cope with this function in a small dressing room, then a light metal staircase will be indispensable for high rooms.

Organizers for jewelry, hairpins, ties, belts and other jewelry will keep small details in sight, and they will always be at hand to add the last zest to the finished ensemble.

Full length mirror- an essential attribute of a full-fledged dressing room. It can be installed in a free recess, make a mirrored door, or attached to a partition from the inside.

Side light sources should be located at a distance of 8-10 cm on both sides of the mirror, slightly below eye level, and another lamp directly above the mirror. Thus, the face and figure of a person will be illuminated without the formation of shadows that distort the appearance.

Finishing the dressing room

Although the dressing room is usually hidden from prying eyes, even it can not do without minimal decoration. Given the purpose of this storage room, you can use the simplest materials. The main thing is that they do not accumulate dust and moisture, and also do not interfere with the free circulation of air.

Floor

The floor in the dressing room can be exactly the same as in the living room, bedroom or nursery. Suitable wooden boards (including unpainted), parquet, laminate, cork. It is worth giving up carpet and rugs - small villi from woolen clothes, fur collars, pieces of thread, and just dust can clog into them.

Walls

The only requirement for the walls in the dressing room is that they do not crumble, otherwise sand with cement or lime can stain things. Suitable ordinary painting, inexpensive decorative plaster, paper wallpaper. The footage of this room is usually small, so it is advisable to choose a light color - white, yellowish or beige.

Ceiling

The ceiling does not play a big role in the design of the dressing room, so you can leave it completely unfinished (especially if the rest of the design is made in the loft style). In the classic versions, a flat, light surface would be appropriate - painting, wallpaper, hanging panels, stretch fabric, etc.

A dressing room is easy to create with a plasterboard partition

With the right approach and following the instructions (which we give in our article), there are two ways to make a dressing room with your own hands:

 • refurbish the pantry;
 • make a dressing room out of drywall.

Wardrobe space requirements or what to consider:

A cramped dressing room, nevertheless replete with a number of shelves
 • The room for the wardrobe should be at least a meter and a half meters. These are the minimum dimensions that allow you to more or less comfortably fit all the shelves, hangers and drawers;
 • Well, if the room allows you to provide in the dressing room a place for changing clothes and for a large mirror;
 • In a small storage space, ventilation must be provided. Otherwise, things may be saturated with a musty smell;
 • The depth of the zone for outerwear and dresses should be at least half a meter, the height - at least one and a half meters;
 • The area for short clothes can have dimensions of 50 * 100 cm. Additional storage areas can be placed at the top;

Before starting the independent arrangement of the dressing room, it is important to understand what things to store and how many of them this room will be designed for. No need to equip it for the future or in reserve.

Wardrobe room from the pantry

Just do not overdo it with the number of shelves so that there is room for changing clothes.

A pantry for a dressing room is a convenient option for self-arrangement. You don't have to do a lot of finishing work. It is enough just to remove everything superfluous from the pantry, to carry out cosmetic or full repairs. It remains only to plan the zones and purchase all the necessary details of the dressing room. Then install them and enjoy your work.

Properly equipped dressing room consists of two halves.

First is the long vertical area. Here things will be stored on hangers. In the lower part there are places for storing shoes.

Second part space will be partitioned off with shelves. Drawers are installed there. This part is used to store linen, towels and all kinds of small items.

Plasterboard dressing room

Everything is much more complicated here and such work will require certain skills and patience. After all, you have to independently build the entire dressing room. To begin with, you should clearly determine exactly where the room will be located, as well as its exact dimensions. Based on the size, calculate the amount of building materials needed.

Required materials and tools:

 • light metal profile from 50 to 100 mm
 • drywall sheets
 • primer
 • fasteners
 • insulation
 • putty

Plasterboard wardrobe installation

Frame assembly. It begins with marking the profile and cutting blanks from it for the future floor, walls and ceiling. Cutting is done with special scissors. Floor profiles are mounted using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws. Next, wall vertical profiles are mounted, and then ceiling horizontal ones. To make the structure strong and rigid, it is also necessary to fix the transverse profiles with self-tapping screws. These works must be carried out very carefully so as not to get hurt and not damage the wall covering, if any.

Frame sheathing. The profile frame is assembled, now comes the stage of sheathing it with plasterboard sheets in two layers. Insulation should be laid between the layers. It will also become an additional soundproofing of your dressing room. It is also recommended to lay electrical wiring in the resulting space. In cutting and installation, drywall sheets are very simple. But you can use chipboard instead of this material.

Gluing seams, puttying and priming. There will be seams between the laid plates. They must be glued with a bandage tape, and then puttied. The resulting joints are primed.

Finishing a new dressing room

The interior decoration of the dressing room often repeats the decoration of the exit room.

The easiest option for interior and exterior decoration is pasting drywall sheets with wallpaper. But you can finish it under a tree or use various decorative panels for decoration. Experts believe that painting the walls will be the most durable. But for its application, it will be necessary to prime and putty not only the seams, but also the sheets completely.

The next stage of work on the dressing room is laying the floor. There are many options here, but tiles are considered the best for this type of room. You can also put parquet or linoleum. Next, you can carry out the interior arrangement of the room in accordance with the recommendations that were given in the chapter on arranging a dressing room in a finished pantry.

Door installation. Sliding doors will look very good, besides, they will take up less space.

Dressing room lighting. The lighting device is optimally positioned directly inside the resulting room. One spotlight will be enough. Additional lighting can be thought out next to the mirror.

Advantages of a dressing room in a house or apartment

 • No need to buy additional chests of drawers, cabinets and hangers. Despite the fact that part of the space is occupied by a dressing room, it also helps to save this space;
 • The service life of all things will be much longer, because each item has its own place, the items do not touch each other;
 • In the dressing room you can store not only clothes, but also bedding, travel bags.

Using the required amount of materials, with a lot of effort, you can get a functional room. It is an important part of the interior and carries not only and not so much aesthetic as functional load. The construction of a dressing room on your own will save a lot of money.

How to make a dressing room so that things are stored in one place and you don’t have to look for them in different rooms and closets. Its installation does not require a large area, even in small apartments, if desired, there is a suitable place.

Plus, a dressing room made by yourself - it will be made in a way that is convenient for you to use, it will cost much less, because the material in the house will go to work. Another positive side - its presence will save you from unnecessary furniture in the apartment.

Where to start manufacturing

There are many ideas for dressing room equipment. There are all kinds of systems, devices for storing things. Getting down to business, you should think in advance and plan the course of work.

Layout and drawing

It’s worth starting with determining the location, dimensions of the dressing room and drawing a plan, indicating the dimensions. A drawing is drawn on a reduced scale, planned systems, fixtures, boxes are inserted. Systems should be distributed ergonomically without overloading the space.

When planning, it is necessary to take into account the distance between the shelves:

 • for storing things - at least 30 cm;
 • for shoes (without heels) - 20 cm;
 • for shirts, jackets, jackets - 120 cm;
 • trousers - from 100 - 140 cm;
 • dresses - 150 - 180 cm;
 • coat - 180 cm.

From above, it is more practical to make shelves for things that are not used often. And below, a place for a vacuum cleaner is recommended.

The dressing room is not made in the passage room, it is better to place it between the bedroom and the bathroom.

Filling

With a limited area, it is not recommended to make furniture from wood, MDF, chipboard in the dressing room. This material will reduce a small area. Metal storage systems are popular today, they are lightweight, modular. Are established on the special racks fastening on a wall, a floor, a ceiling. Racks are equipped with many notches, with the help of which the height of the shelves is quickly adjusted. Material for the manufacture of shelves - wood, metal, plastic. Shelves are retractable.

These storage systems are sold, but are expensive. It is more economical to do it yourself, from a chrome-plated furniture pipe.

There are many options for arranging wardrobes: rods for trousers, skirts, all kinds of shoe stands, drawers for small items. They are retractable - convenient and functional

Material selection

Suitable for making:

 • Wood (chipboard) is a common material, able to withstand the load of things, absorbs moisture, economical.
 • Plastic - plastic panels of different sizes are used.
 • Metal - aluminum is more commonly used, it is light and durable. The building is well ventilated. At a cost - more expensive than chipboard.
 • Glass - contributes to the visual expansion of space. Suitable for high-tech style, modern.

Finishing is carried out from any material: wallpaper, glass, ceramic tiles.

When finishing, you should take into account the location of additional lamps for the shelves, having made holes in advance. The built-in mirror in the door looks original

How to make a dressing room: open and closed type

When choosing a type, you should take into account all the nuances: location and rational use of the area.

outdoor view

An open dressing room is a structure for storing things that is not fenced off by a partition from the living quarters. She must match the general style of the room. It is recommended to use when there is a shortage of free space in small apartments.

The advantage of the open design is that everything is at hand. Minus - clothes get dusty, they should be placed carefully so as not to spoil the appearance of the room

closed view

The closed dressing room is separated from the room by a wall and has doors. It provides order in the room, as the contents of the closet are hidden.
Closed dressing room with a large area, has a well-thought-out organization of the storage system.

Closed wardrobe - convenient, allows you to try on and care for clothes right in the dressing room. The arrangement requires a large space, which is not possible in ordinary apartments.

An example of a do-it-yourself dressing room

The first step is to mark the height and width of the shelves, rolling doors in the niche of the future wardrobe. In our case, the depth of the niche is 1.4 m, while taking into account the protruding box

The box is necessary to hide pipes and install a water meter. Let's not forget to leave space between the shelves, because. titanium will be present in the dressing room. In the same place between the shelves, we provided a place for a socket.

 • We bought a 5×5 bar to solve the problem with the placement of the rolling door. Reason: the ceiling height is 275 cm, but the stretch ceiling takes another 10 cm;
 • Above and below we will install aluminum rails for door mobility;

 • In the Leroy Merlin hypermarket, where we bought, there is a service for cutting shelves using a large machine. Having previously measured the length and width, having estimated everything on paper, we ordered shelves 30 cm and 60 cm wide. The service is very convenient, because shelves ready for installation will be brought to the house. A hacksaw will only have to work if the corners are uneven;

 • Do not forget about the addition for finishing the cabinet on top, which we buy in wenge colors. The width of the extension is 10 cm. To attach the hangers, we purchase two round metal holders. We check again: the distance between the shelves is 40 cm, we fix the small corners 5 cm from the edge of the board. We place large corners immediately below them, so that later we can attach the end guide to the floor and wall (it will have to withstand a large load);
 • We fix two large corners in width, and 4 in height. For this stage of work, we will take care of buying a level;
 • We recommend using a long level. In order to install the end guide without any problems, it is necessary to twist the corners in advance on the floor. Do not forget to measure the distance on the wall with a level. Then we proceed to the installation;
 • We originally planned to create a dressing room, although the box is made of drywall. Previously, aluminum guides were missed inside, which are attached with the help of corners;
 • We adjust the length of the aluminum guide with a hacksaw. On the right side of the wardrobe there is a sliding door that can move to the side, and on the left there is a large shelf 60-2.70. Internal shelves are fixed to the latter;
 • We repeat that the top is trimmed with a 10 cm wenge-colored addition;

 • Inside the wardrobe, but on the left side, there is a place below for boots and other shoes. A lot of shelves are also installed here, a socket is displayed. We left a place for titanium. Even further to the left is a niche 25.5 cm deep. During installation, we used shelves 30 cm long to fit more boxes here;

wardrobe type

The arrangement of the dressing room is an important point, it is worth considering the installation location, and based on this, choose the type of model.

Angular

A great option, if there is a free corner in the room. A corner cabinet is more practical than a straight one. It can accommodate: shelves, drawers, bars.

Zoning of the corner cabinet is carried out in different ways. Trim the corner with drywall and make doors, hinged or sliding. It is possible to fence off the corner with doors, like a compartment

Linear

Linear - similar to a large closet. Mounted along the wall, on which there are no window and door openings. Fences off from the room in several ways:

 • plasterboard wall with sliding doors;
 • sliding doors to the entire wall;
 • cornice on the ceiling with a curtain.

Linear model with open shelving, looks great in a loft-style room. The main thing is to successfully choose the material and color scheme of the cabinet for the overall interior.

U-shaped

U-shaped - ideal for a long room. Bed on one side, dressing room on the other. It can be in the form of cabinets or as a full-fledged room.

Having fenced off the space, you should think over the lighting, divide it into 4 zones: for outerwear, shoes, short things and for trying on

Parallel

This type, designers are advised to use in wide, long corridors. Consists of two cabinets facing each other.

A parallel dressing room can be closed, in the form of cabinets or open, with racks and shelves

Dressing room dimensions

The dimensions of the dressing room are determined taking into account its location and use. Ideally, it should have a place to store clothes and an area for changing clothes.
The optimal size is calculated individually, you must consider:

 • size, location, shape of the room;
 • the presence of a niche;
 • location of windows and doors.

Measurements must be made accurately so that there are no difficulties during the installation process.
The width is different, it is calculated as follows:

 • if the cabinet is on one wall, the width is its depth, plus the width of the doors;
 • in the absence of doors, but the presence of drawers, the width is two depths;
 • when two cabinets are positioned opposite each other, the width is two cabinet depths, plus two door widths and a passage.

A prerequisite for size is that the doors should open freely and not interfere with the unhindered entry into the room. If the dressing room is narrow, do not make large wardrobes

Ventilation and lighting for dressing room

In the dressing room, ventilation is required, as smells will appear in the closed space. It should be planned in advance. There are two types:

 • Natural - air enters from below, and exits from above. To arrange ventilation, it is necessary to make holes in the cabinet, below and above, for air movement. This method does not always give a complete result.
 • Forced - implies the installation of a fan in the hole. It is better to put a forced exhaust - will provide a suitable atmosphere for storing things.

The exhaust hole is made on the opposite side of the inlet. It's great if the exhaust hole goes into the ventilation

The dimensions of the holes must be determined in accordance with the area of the dressing room.
A wardrobe is not a closet, but a room with shelves and drawers. To quickly find the right thing, you need good lighting. Better, multizone:

 • on the ceiling - general lighting;
 • for illumination of shelves - additional rotary lamp.

The ideal solution is to install a motion detector to turn on the lighting. It is economical and convenient. And the backlighting of the shelves looks beautiful and stylish

wardrobe doors

When making a wardrobe with your own hands, it is important to choose the right doors. From a well-chosen model, depends on the comfort and ease of use of the room. Common types are:

 1. Swing - practical, but require space. Protect from sunlight, dust, with a high degree of sound insulation. The cost is the most affordable.
 2. Accordion - the doors are compact, fold like a screen. The structure is fragile, consists of many rails.
 3. Coupes are popular, the movement of the doors is carried out along the cabinet, no additional space is required.
 4. Roto door is a non-standard solution. Suitable for loft style, high-tech. The door is installed on a special mechanism, it allows it to rotate around its axis and open in any direction. Free space is required for installation.
 5. Penal - the doors are hidden in the wall, no extra space is required. Convenient for small apartments. But the installation of such a design is complex, without experience, it is difficult to do it yourself.

The accordion doors look beautiful. They transform the room, adding some zest to the interior.

Material for the manufacture of doors is different:

 • Wood - looks aesthetically pleasing, is an environmentally friendly material. But a wooden door is heavy and expensive.
 • Glass or mirror is popular today. Doors decorated with stained glass will decorate the room, make it bigger.
 • Plastic is light and cheap. Plastic doors are less durable and not as beautiful.

To make the dressing room door look stylish, it should be decorated with sandblasted mirror inserts or embossed glass elements.

The door looks original and unusual, it will give the apartment a modern, fashionable look. But not suitable for classical style

Arrangement: filling and storage systems

For the practical use of the dressing room, you should properly equip it, choose acceptable options for storage systems. Do not come up with complex, intricate designs.

Clothes placement system

There are different designs for storing things, the main ones are.

Storage systemsCabinetModular design, consists of sections with walls: side, bottom, top. It is located close to the wall and fixed in a single complex. Made from chipboard.
frameModel of metal racks attached to the walls, floor and ceiling. On it are installed: rods, hooks, holders. Installation is simple, elements can be moved and things are well ventilated.
Panel complexThese are decorative panels fixed to the wall, modular elements for storage are attached to them. The system has no divisions on the sides, there is no floor and ceiling. The cost of the complex is not cheap.
MeshThe model is universal. Horizontal rail screwed to the wall to which the rails are mounted. Brackets, shelves, hangers are installed on them.

There are accessories for skirts, trousers and tie hangers, and clips on them allow you to fix the item. Very handy if the hanger slides out

Shoe storage system

There are always a lot of shoes in the house, it is important to organize a system for storing them, compact and convenient. The ideal solution is to place shoes on shelves or in special cabinets. Well, if for each type of shoe there is a compartment of the appropriate size. And when using sliding shelves, space is saved.

If space permits, it is worth equipping a full-fledged built-in storage system for shoes. It has special shoe sections - it is convenient to use, the shoes do not gather dust. Shoe cabinets are available in different sizes and have different mounting methods, so it’s easy to choose for any dressing room.

The original design for shoes - looks like pins with modules on a retractable frame. Compact and handy system

Shelving

Shelving - design, consists of racks and attached open shelves. Usually metal. Access to things stored on the racks is free. Their main advantage is modularity. They come in different sizes and number of shelves.

Where to make a dressing room

Not every apartment has a place for a full dressing room; you have to equip it in the most suitable rooms.

Dressing room in the hallway

It is convenient to make a dressing room in the hallway, you can not clutter up the rooms with large wardrobes. A dressing room in the hallway involves storing outerwear, but with space that allows, you can equip storage for all things. A good option is a built-in wardrobe, finished under the walls of the hallway itself. A mirror is an indispensable detail, you can’t do without it in the hallway.
Can be done:

 • Closed - a large closet, often with sliding doors.
 • Open - racks, shelves, hooks for clothes. The option requires compliance with the order, since all things are in sight, but takes up less space.
 • Combined - consists of closed cabinets and open shelves. Conveniently, things used infrequently are removed in a closed part.

The dressing room in the hallway should be installed along a large wall. If the area is small, ideally - angular, from floor to ceiling

Arrangement of a dressing room in the bedroom

The bedroom is the room most suitable for a wardrobe. Models are different - with a large area, it is possible to make a whole dressing room. If the bedroom does not allow, then it is better to use:

 • open shelves and mobile hangers, decorated with decorative drawers;
 • a small built-in drywall wardrobe;
 • partitions made of mirror or glass, which will visually enlarge the room.

The dressing room in the bedroom fenced off with a screen or a curtain on the curtain looks good. This storage system is handy in a small room

Closet closet design

Making a dressing room in the pantry is a good solution, especially for small apartments. It’s easy to do - you need to remove everything superfluous, finish it in light colors (this will increase the space), replace the doors (preferably like a compartment) and fill it with: racks, racks, shelves.
Since the pantries are small, you should equip them with mirrors, thereby making more.

Dressing room in Khrushchev instead of a pantry

Khrushchevka is a small apartment with a standard layout. The only plus is the presence of a pantry, it is easy to convert it into a dressing room on your own. Depending on the size, you can make from it:

 • built-in wardrobe - a niche already exists, it remains to put doors and install shelves, hangers;
 • equip with a full-fledged system for storing things - dividing into zones and filling with functional systems.

It is important to consider the location of furniture and shelving. For rational use - space should be used from ceiling to floor

in the attic

The advantage of an attic dressing room is saving living space, the ability to collect things in one room, making it easy to find them. In such a room, there is a place for all types of clothes and for a fitting room.

The layout should be done starting from the shape of the attic. If the attic is sloped, then the dressing room should be located along the lowest or highest wall. Rational use of the attic is obtained with a corner dressing room.

Attic dressing room - an ideal solution, trying on in front of a mirror, choosing the right set of clothes in a comfortable environment

It is possible to organize convenient storage for things almost anywhere. It is not difficult to make a dressing room on your own by fencing off part of the room with doors, leaves from chipboard, drywall. But this method is not acceptable in standard apartments, but niches are often found in them - an almost ready-made dressing room, the main thing is to properly equip it.

It is easier for the owner of private houses, if space allows, you can give an entire room for a dressing room, an attic room is especially suitable. Experts recommend zoning the space.

Plus, a do-it-yourself dressing room is the ability to design it for yourself, providing for the zones and elements that you need. In addition, the opportunity to show their design skills, make a one-of-a-kind dressing room.
