It’s easier to order cutting and laminating the ends in a furniture workshop according to your size, and it’s better to take the material from them, it will come out cheaper;
2. MDF - these boards are more expensive than chipboard, but they are considered environmentally friendly, and there are formaldehydes in chipboard. The thickness of both MDF and chipboard boards is in the range of 16 - 21 mm;

1. Drywall - drywall is suitable for self-assembly, but you will have to tinker with such a cabinet. First, from a wooden beam or metal profiles, you will need to assemble the frame. Then sheathe it with GKL. And at the finish, all this will have to be puttied, sanded and painted, so think about it.

How to make a closet under the stairs with your own hands

For self-production, wood and chipboard are suitable for us, but it’s not realistic to make a beautiful and durable wooden cabinet for a beginner, so I recommend using slab material.

Preparatory work

To assemble any structure, a drawing is needed, but only a professional can correctly draw it, so in this case a sketch is enough. When compiling it, you should not rely on memory or ingenuity, measure, draw and indicate on paper absolutely all sizes, even the smallest ones.

As for the docking fittings, it is easier for a beginner to work with metal corners, they are fixed with self-tapping screws. To assemble a cabinet from chipboard or MDF, confirmations are used.

Cabinet installation

If we proceed from the fact that the chipboard plates have already been cut with us, then only the assembly will remain for us. We will build the cabinet rigidly, that is, fasten it to the floor, walls and the staircase itself.

• All vertical racks are installed first. First, according to the sketch, make markings on the inclined canvas of the flight of stairs, after which you take a plumb line and mark the points of attachment of the sheets to the floor;

• The inner frame is not visible, so the sheets are easier to attach to metal corners. Below you will not have any problems, and from above the corners will have to be bent to the desired angle, because our stairs are inclined;
• Now, vertical sheets are marked for horizontal shelves. If you want everything to be perfect, then according to the markings for each shelf, drill a series of holes with a confirmation drill and screw the shelves onto confirmations. Although under the closed facade it is more reasonable to mount the shelves on the corners;

• To install doors on furniture hinges, you will need a Forstsner drill. There are paper templates for each model of furniture hinges. Using this template, mark the hinge point on the doors, after which you make a recess with a fortsner drill and screw the hinges;
• Then it remains only to screw the doors with self-tapping screws to the vertical posts.

• The decorative finish of the cabinet depends on the material chosen for the facade. So wooden facades are varnished or painted. The second option is simpler, but it is only suitable if the color of the paint resonates with the general surroundings;
