Instructions for self-installation of windows made of wood. Installing a wooden window: all options Installing a round window in a wooden house

Do-it-yourself window installation will save up to 50% of the money that would be spent on installation by a third-party company. But it is very important to do everything right, otherwise the savings will be doubtful. For wooden houses, there are some features that you should be aware of.

Possible problems with incorrect installation of windows

It is advisable to adequately assess your strengths in advance, because some mistakes can become very expensive:

    • lack of casing - a house made of timber during shrinkage “walks” and begins to put pressure on window frames;
    • the use of mounting foam in the shrinkage gap between the top in the casing and the wall of the house - the hardened foam is very hard and will transfer pressure from the upper bars to the window frame, nullifying the functions of the casing;

    • incorrect calculation of the dimensions of the plastic window frame - not taking into account the mounting gap, you will have to expand the window opening;

    • too large a gap between the frame and the wall - with a simple foaming of such a gap, the slopes will always be cold, it is better to insert an additional expansion profile;
    • lack of external protection of the mounting gap - when foaming the distance between the frame and the casing, it is better to close the gap from the outside with PSUL tape, which provides foam protection from ultraviolet radiation, but allows moisture to evaporate;

    • lack of waterproofing from the outside and vapor barrier from the inside - the foam is destroyed when exposed to the atmosphere, which leads to a deterioration in the insulating properties;

    • placing the window in the "cold zone" - is the cause of the freezing of the slopes and the formation of condensate from the inside

If there is the slightest possibility of making one of these mistakes due to inexperience, it is better not to save and order the installation of windows. For an experienced builder, do-it-yourself installation should not be a problem.

Pitfalls that plastic window manufacturers do not talk about

The tightness and high sound insulation of plastic double-glazed windows is presented as an undoubted advantage. But, unfortunately, not everything is so rosy. After all, the humidity in residential premises is constantly increasing, and thanks to leaky wooden frames, a constant flow of fresh air is ensured. Of course, too large gaps can make the house very cold, so euro-windows have long become a very popular product.

How to solve the problem with high humidity? One option is to make forced ventilation. But in the absence of ventilation holes, this can be problematic - you will have to redo a lot.

It was for such cases that window supply valves were invented - special profiles that are installed on plastic windows. What is especially pleasing is the ease of installation. It is enough to replace part of the standard seal with a special one and fasten the valve to the window sash with several self-tapping screws. Unfortunately, the system will not work without an exhaust vent.
Another unpleasant surprise for owners of wooden houses is that companies that install plastic windows often do not guarantee their work, citing the unpredictability of wood behavior. So even with all the installation rules, you can find that after a few years the windows stopped opening. And you won't be able to sharpen the plastic with a file.

Manufacture of casing (pigtails)

The first thing that begins with the installation of windows - with the installation of casing. But is it always needed and how to do it right?

When you can do without pigtails

A new wooden house made of logs or timber will shrink in any case. And no one canceled the seasonal heaving of the soil. In this case, casing is required - it will protect the window from distortions, torsion or bends.

It is important to use only dry and durable material for casing boards - edged board 50 mm thick and edged timber 150x100 mm or 50x50 mm. The width should be equal to the thickness of the wall.

But in a frame house, you can not make a pigtail - the frame itself is already formed for window and door openings and provides the necessary rigidity. In a log house that has stood for more than 10 years, some builders also do not mount the casing, arguing that it has already undergone shrinkage and is not deformed. But for peace of mind in your home, it is better to do it, this process is not so complicated.

How to do a squash properly

The last option is the most time-consuming, but also the most reliable. If there are doubts about your own carpentry skills, it is better to make a casing in a mortgage bar. For this:

    • In the window opening, in the middle of the timber, two vertical furrows 5x5 cm in size are selected. This can be done both with a chainsaw and with a manual circular saw, a chisel and an ax. The second option is preferable if the hand is not stuffed for precise work with a chainsaw.

    • An edged board is laid on top of the embedded bar and fixed flush with self-tapping screws - two at the top and two at the bottom. To do this, a small recess with a diameter slightly larger than the screw head is pre-drilled.
    • If the “thorn-monolith” casing option is chosen, then the previously sawn T-shaped element is simply driven into the groove and also screwed on with self-tapping screws.
    • Vertical elements should not reach the upper edge of the opening by 8 cm - so that the top laid on them with a thickness of 5 cm is at a distance of at least 3 cm from the wall beam. This will be the shrink gap.
    • The tip should enter the grooves with little effort, and not move freely in a horizontal plane. It is also fixed with self-tapping screws screwed in at an angle.
    • The insulation is laid in the shrinkage gap and closed on the inside with a vapor barrier, and on the outside with a windproof membrane. In no case should the insulation be covered on both sides with vapor-tight films - the accumulated condensate will cause mold to form on the wood adjacent to the insulation.

And this is how the casing is done “in the deck”:

When the pigtail is ready, you can proceed directly to the installation of double-glazed windows.

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic windows

The installation of double-glazed windows is not very complicated, but it requires precise adherence to the technology. Otherwise, the window will almost certainly condense, and the frame will warp.

Checking the delivered double-glazed window

In no case should you neglect this moment! First, the dimensions of the window opening and the double-glazed window are checked. So, if the opening is 184 cm, then the window frame should be 180 cm - the gap between the side posts and the wall cannot exceed 2 cm on each side. The height of the window opening, for example, is 120 cm, then the frame itself should be 116 cm, and at the bottom there is also a support profile (clover) of 3 cm. Thus, the gap on top will turn out to be 1 cm. it needs to be left a place at the window calculation. It is needed so that the window sill can be installed from the inside, and the ebb can be screwed on the outside.

If mosquito nets are planned on the windows, it is also necessary to check the presence of fasteners. Handles are often “lost” as windows are transported without them. But pins - special fasteners, you need to select yourself.

Their length should be such that, when fully screwed in, they reach only to the middle of the casing. And that's with clearance. If the dowel is screwed into the wall of a wooden house, the window will begin to deform, regardless of the presence of a pigtail.

Often they do not pay attention to small elements - decorative overlays, fittings and drainage holes. They also need to be counted. But the window sill and the ebb must be ordered - forgetting to clarify their need, you can find that the windows arrived without them. For installation, you will also need special linings for the glass itself - their presence can only be seen by disassembling the double-glazed window.

They may not be included in the kit, so it is better to order them in advance. Wedges are convenient because, thanks to their different sizes, you can set the frame evenly by simply placing a wedge of the desired thickness under the corners and racks.

Dismantling and preparation of double-glazed windows

The finished double-glazed window is brought assembled. But to install it, you have to disassemble everything to the frame. For this:

    • when closed, the upper pins holding the swinging sash are removed with a special key;
    • the window handle is inserted, the sash opens and is removed from the lower mounts;
    • glazing beads are knocked out from the inside of the window and double-glazed windows are removed - you can use a hammer and a regular knife;
    • you need to remember or designate the right and left glazing beads;
    • a protective film is removed from the outside - under the influence of the sun it will not come off after a few months;
    • external elements are mounted - mosquito net holders and decorative plugs for drainage holes;
    • holes for pins are drilled - first at a distance of no more than 20 cm from the corners of the frame, and then no more than 60-70 cm from each other;

Once the preliminary preparation is completed, you can proceed directly to the installation.

Installation of the frame and assembly of plastic windows

First, the frame is simply inserted into the window opening and temporarily fixed in it. For example, temporary jibs nailed on the outside. But it is much easier to do everything with an assistant - he just holds the frame until it is leveled and screwed to the casing. Frame installation also requires the correct sequence:

    1. The lower edge is aligned according to the level - the laser level is more convenient in this regard. Wedges of different thicknesses are placed under each rack so as to achieve a perfectly even position. Even minimal distortion will create problems during operation.
    2. Side braces are inserted to ensure the same distance from the walls. If the width of the window frame is too small and literally "falls out" of the opening, you can use a special expansion profile. This is much better than foaming the resulting huge gap.

    1. The frame is also aligned vertically. Do not forget that you need to install it in a "warm" zone - for wooden walls without external insulation, this is clearly in the middle.
    2. Once the frame is level, you can begin to mount it, starting with the side racks. First, holes are drilled in the tree through those already made in the frame, and then the dowels are baited. First, the upper and lower, with a mandatory check of the vertical, and then between them.
    3. As soon as the frame is fixed, the ebb is attached outside. Of course, this can be done as a last resort, but on the second floor it is not so easy to approach from the outside. The tide is inserted into a special groove under the frame, screwed on with two self-tapping screws along the edges, and under it the gap is filled with mounting foam.

    1. Decorative trims are put on the fasteners of the sash. The lower ones are put on the frame, the upper ones - on the sash. First, the sash is installed on the frame, and only then the handle is attached in the open state.

    1. Double-glazed windows are placed on special gaskets. Without them, the window may simply burst due to the emphasis on the metal parts in the corners of the frame.

    1. The mounting seam around the perimeter is foamed.
    2. The window sill is installed. To do this, a finished window sill is placed on the window sill, wedges are placed under it for leveling. The window sill is removed, its end and delivery profile are smeared with sealant, and the free space between the wedges is foamed. Again, the window sill is placed, pressed tightly against the profile and left until the foam hardens.

  1. In some cases, they do the opposite - first install the window sill, align it in level and screw it with dowels to the casing. And then a double-glazed window is placed on top of it. In this case, it is no longer necessary to align the frame horizontally. The only inconvenience is that the material of the window sill must withstand the action of the external environment. Of course, you can fix the ebb outside on top of the window sill and foam everything under it, thus protecting the wooden element.

Once the mounting foam has hardened, you can start finishing the windows.

Slopes for a plastic window in a wooden house

The easiest option that even girls can handle is to cover them with plastic panels. For this you will need:

  • L-shaped or starting profile - it is screwed to the wall close to the window frame;
  • decorative plastic corner - it closes the end of the panel from the side of the room and is also screwed with self-tapping screws;
  • the plastic lining itself for the slopes.

And you don't even need to froth anything. But in order to provide the necessary protection of the mounting seam and good insulation, it is necessary to lay a heater between the wall and the slope and cover it with a vapor barrier. From the outside, the seam is closed with a windproof film - waterproofing with good vapor permeability.

And in order for the windows to please with warmth and comfort, it is very important to protect the mounting foam from exposure to ultraviolet radiation, as well as from being taken away by birds. You do not need to restrain your soul's impulses if you want to start doing something with your own hands. And everything will definitely work out!

Due to their performance characteristics, double-glazed windows made of PVC material have gained particular popularity among the population. They are mounted in buildings and structures built of concrete, brick, wood. It is necessary to insert plastic windows in a wooden house by following certain rules.

Important installation details

Starting the installation, you need to prepare the equipment that will be required: a building level and a plumb line, and also know how to insert a plastic window. It is necessary to install a PVC window, strictly observing the placement in the plane according to the level. This will ensure the correct operation of all elements, the sashes will not spontaneously close and open.

PVC window installation technology involves its correct placement in the plane according to the level

When purchasing plastic structures, you need to buy additional special fasteners for installation. The frame is fixed in the pigtail of a wooden structure using self-tapping screws and special fasteners.. By following the technological process and correctly performing the installation of plastic windows in a wooden house, you are guaranteed to receive window blocks that will last a long time.

The window frame is fixed with anchor plates.

If the sashes are dismantled, the structure will become much lighter and it will be easier to move it, however, mounting metal-plastic windows in a wooden house alone is still not recommended. To pull out the sash, you need to remove the pins from the hinges.

How to install PVC double-glazed windows

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic windows in a wooden house is carried out in stages:

  • preparatory activities before installation;
  • installation of PVC windows;
  • control-checking the location in space;
  • blowing foam.

To understand how to install plastic windows both in a wooden house and from a bar or log house, we will consider each stage in more detail.

Performing preparatory work

First of all, you need to take the exact dimensions by measuring the opening, and order a window structure from a trusted manufacturer. To do this, most often they invite a representative of a company that manufactures plastic frames. You can take measurements yourself. After that, they determine the color of the structure and the completeness of the fittings necessary for the functioning of the window.

When the manufacturer delivers the products to the site, the following steps must be taken:

  • if a decision is made to replace the installed windows in the old opening, first of all, it is necessary to dismantle the structure;
  • after which they clean dust, dirt and remove debris that got into the opening from dismantling;
  • it is worth aligning the opening if its geometry is broken.

Having finished the preparation, they insert a plastic window into a wooden house with their own hands.

Fastening the window structure in the prepared opening

We install the window sill first, it will be the basis for the double-glazed window, so you need to put it strictly in level (horizontally). For fastening strength, cuts are made on the sides of the box about 8 mm deep. Adjustment is carried out using plastic plates or planks. Fastening takes place with self-tapping screws to the bottom of the box. When screwing in, it is worth putting washers under the head of the self-tapping screw, this will prevent damage to the surface.

The next step is to properly install the handle. The film that protects the structures should not be removed, it protects them from damage when windows are being installed. When attaching, the handle must be placed horizontally. When all the fittings have been assembled, the installation of metal-plastic windows begins.

First you need to set the PVC frame in level. A frame is placed on two-centimeter bars and leveled horizontally using a water level. After that, go to the vertical alignment.

Having obtained the ideal parameters at the water level, they fix the frame with self-tapping screws to the pigtail, using mounting fasteners that were specially bought in the store. It is important not to get a self-tapping screw into the crest of the log where the pigtail is installed.

Fix the frame with self-tapping screws

After fixing the window element, we get 2-centimeter gaps around it for mounting foam.

Before applying the mounting foam, you need to hang the sashes so that after foaming the frame profile does not bend and damage the window. It is important to remember that foam can only be applied when the sash is closed..

Construction control and foaming

After hanging the sashes, you need to check how the double-glazed window opens and closes. If the window, which is half open, does not close and does not move further, then the frame is considered to be set correctly and the alignment is correct. Having closed the sash, foaming is performed with foam for installation and left for complete fixation for a day.

Why is casing made for plastic windows in a log house?

To get high-quality PVC windows in a wooden house, you must strictly observe the installation features, that is, install them on a special frame (base). The need for such a design is due to the peculiarities of buildings made of wood. Unlike a building made of stone (concrete or brick), a wooden panel house is unstable over a long period.

Casing prevents deformation of the frame during shrinkage of the house

The building will sit in the first five years after its erection. In this case, the walls dry up to 6 cm. This important nuance must be taken into account when installing a plastic window in a frame house. It is clear that it is impossible to simply insert a plastic window in a wooden house, it is necessary to create a structure for the opening, which has the name casing, they also say - a pigtail. Its direct purpose is to prevent wall shrinkage from affecting the frame, so the pigtail:

  • strengthens the opening;
  • bears the burden;
  • prevents shrinkage.

An okosyachka looks like a box made of thick boards. The structure is fastened in the side rack to the groove, while fasteners are not used. Above the pigtail there is a shrinkage compensation gap for a wooden house. There are several options for installing it:

  • a groove is cut in the log where the bar is placed. Self-tapping screws are screwed into the last element of the embedded beam;
  • a groove is cut in the racks on the sides of the structure, a spike is cut from the end of the log in the opening;
  • a groove is made at the end of the logs, a spike is located on the side posts of the box.

Casing device options

To get a high-quality design, you need to follow the technology for installing plastic windows in a wooden house. To begin with, they cover the ridges of the logs with insulation and fasten it with staples or small carnations. This stage is necessary to insulate the house and eliminate squeaks. Then the lower crossbar of the casing is mounted, and carriages (side racks of pigtails) are stuffed onto the ridges, the upper jumper is laid in the upper groove of the racks. After collecting the box, carefully connect it with self-tapping screws, it is important that they do not fall into the logs.

The cracks that are visible in the opening after the installation of the casing must be filled with tow or insulation. Then there is a standard installation of plastic windows in a frame house or log house.

Cracks are sealed with insulation or tow

The compensation gap is filled with flat planks pre-wrapped with tow. When shrinking, the walls are gradually knocked out. To do this, remove the upper casing and, having knocked out the plank, put it back.

The final stage in the glazing of a wooden structure

Finishing after installing PVC windows in a log house is done in the same way as wooden ones, that is, after installing the frame structure and insulation, they put wooden trim. When ordering PVC windows in a wooden structure, you should look at the option for the wood texture, this will allow them to look harmoniously against the background of a logged structure.

Many manufacturers of PVC structures offer not only the classic white version of the frame colors. You can order any shade that the customer wishes. Colored plastic frames will cost a bit more, but are a better option for a natural-material home.

When ordering, it is important to correctly measure the opening and not make a mistake in the width of the window sill. Self-installation of a PVC window in a wooden house, knowing all the nuances, is not such a complicated process. You can do it yourself, without resorting to the help of expensive installers.

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic windows in a wooden house

I hope no one will argue that since the moment they appeared on the construction market, plastic windows have proven themselves only on the positive side, although there are a few unpleasant moments, but still. It is because of the excellent performance and ease of installation that more and more homeowners prefer them. PVC windows can be easily installed in any window opening, but when installing in a wooden house, you need to take into account a number of nuances, without which all your work will go down the drain. Further on the article we will consider what these nuances are and we will analyze all the stages of installing windows with our own hands.

Materials and tools

To accomplish this task, in addition to PVC windows, we will need the following materials:

Material
Characteristics Purpose
bar 150*100 Casing installation
Board 50*100 Casing installation
Lnovatin Insulation of the sides of the casing
Quality insulation Insulation of the thermal gap on top of the casing
Thermal waterproofing tape Thermal gap waterproofing
Galvanized self-tapping screws Casing fastening
Screws for concrete Nagel MRS Fixing PVC - windows
Linings Plastic Window installation
sealant Seam sealing
Mounting foam Closing the gap between frame and casing

From the tools we will prepare this:

  • Perforator, drill, screwdriver;
  • Chain saw, ordinary saw, grinder;
  • Hammer and rubber mallet;
  • Paint knife, ordinary knife, pliers, furniture stapler, screwdriver;
  • Building level, tape measure;
  • Foam gun.

Preparatory work

1. We dismantle old windows (if any), check whether there is a pigtail or how it is also called casing and what condition it is in (casing is the most important element of a window opening in a wooden house and therefore this stage is very, very important). If there is a pigtail and it is in good condition - you are lucky, you got rid of a lot of work, if it is not there or it is in a deplorable state, then read below how to install it.

2. We check the opening for defects, such as rot, chips and eliminate them.

3. We process the opening with a special composition intended for wood, of which there are a lot in hardware stores and proceed to the main work.

Instructions for installing PVC windows

Step 1: As I wrote above, the pigtail plays, perhaps, a key role in our task of installing plastic windows. But first things first, the casing is such a structural element that prevents the windows from deforming during the shrinkage of a wooden house and therefore its installation is mandatory.

There are several modifications of this design, namely:

1. Casing in a “mortgage block”;
2. Casing in the "deck";
3. Casing in the "thorn monolith";
4. "Fine" casing box.

Most often, the last two options are used, we will also not reinvent the wheel and will make a “monolith spike” casing.

First: Knowing the dimensions of the future window, we mark and cut out the corresponding opening.

Advice: From above, we cut the window opening 5 - 10 cm higher than the pigtail will be installed. This is done in order to provide a thermal gap.

Second: We mark the future groove, usually it is made five centimeters in size. After marking, select the groove with a chain saw.

Third: We process the side bars. At the first stage, we should get a t - shaped bar “monolith spike”. After sawing out this figure, we just have to make a bed for the top, that is, the upper jumper, it all looks like this.

Advice: If it is planned to finish the house from the outside, then we buy rough material, but if the house is not additionally finished outside, then we use finishing material based on glued laminated timber.

Fourth: We process the window opening and all the elements of the pigtail with a special tool that protects the tree from decay and other troubles. At the same stage, it is necessary to make thermal insulation between the wall of the house and the pigtail; for this purpose, it is best to use lnovatin.

Fifth: We install the side elements of the casing, then we measure and cut the board for the top bar (top). The top bar needs to be cut out so that it fits into the groove of the side bars with little effort. After installing all the elements, we fix them to the walls of the house with the help of self-tapping screws.

Paste a VALID AdSense code in Ads Elite Plugin options before activating it.

Sixth: We insulate the thermal gap left on top of the casing, this is best done using high-quality insulation installed both on the outside of the window and on the inside. Then, the insulation is necessarily hydro- and vapor-insulated with a tape specially designed for such purposes, such a tape has a self-adhesive strip, but for a more reliable fastening it is better to walk on it with a furniture stapler.

From all that I described above, the following should turn out:

Important: Never use mounting foam to isolate the thermal gap, because after hardening it will turn into a very hard substance that will transfer all the loads associated with shrinkage of the house, windows and the pigtail will cease to perform its functions.

Step 2: We proceed directly to the installation of a plastic window in a wooden house, this step, like the previous ones, will be divided into several stages.

1. We take out a double-glazed window from a window frame. We start with the opening sash, insert the handle into the groove and move it to the open position, the sash does not need to be opened. We remove the rod of the upper hinge, open the sash and remove it from the lower hinge.

2. We remove the side glazing beads from the “blind” sash, for this, with a thin object, for example, with a knife, we bend the glazing beads towards the double-glazed window and back, they should click and remove them. After all the glazing beads are removed, we put on gloves, since the edges of the double-glazed window are very sharp and carefully remove the double-glazed window.

Advice: To avoid falling out of the double-glazed window, first remove the side glazing beads and only then the lower and upper ones.

3. We drill holes in the frame for fasteners. For this purpose, we use a drill 6 * 70 or longer. We drill holes for fasteners at a distance of 15 cm from the corners and imposts of the frame and no more than 70 cm from each other.

4. We try on the prepared window frame, having previously placed plastic linings under the corners and impost. Then we align the window frame using the same linings and the building level, applying it to the attachment points of the glazing beads and installing linings where necessary. Make sure that the upper part of the frame does not rest against the casing. The gap at the top must be at least 1 cm.

5. After the frame is leveled and the necessary wedges are placed, we proceed to drilling the walls. You cannot cope with such a task alone, because one person will have to drill, and the other will have to hold the window box and look at the level so that the verticality of the window does not go astray. To begin with, we drill two holes at the top and bottom of the box, insert screws into them, for fastening we will use concrete screws (MRS dowel), we twist them, but not completely, as it may be necessary to adjust the lateral deflection of the window box. After leveling the window, tighten all the screws.

Advice: It is not necessary to tighten the screws too much, as you can knock down the verticality of the window. It will be enough to slightly drown the head of the screw into the plastic.

6. We foam the gaps between the window frame and the casing. Fifteen minutes later, as soon as the foam hardens, you can insert double-glazed windows and finish the window opening. We will not touch on fine finishing in the framework of this article, since this topic is very extensive.

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic windows in a wooden house: installation features, instructions, video

Plastic double-glazed windows have gained popularity because of their performance. But can they be used in the construction and repair of wooden buildings? Of course, you can and should.

Installing plastic windows in a wooden house has a lot of differences and features. The process includes a number of preparatory manipulations, primarily related to the fact that the structure tends to sag over time.

We install a PVC window in a private house

Features of the technology for installing PVC windows in a wooden house of a new or old building do not have a strong difference. In any case, experts recommend technology using casing - time-tested, this technology allows you to avoid deformation, regardless of the material from which it is made.

Installing a plastic window in a wooden house or cottage with your own hands will require some knowledge and skills from the performer. Of course, if there are none, then it is better to turn to specialists. The complexity of the self-assembly of PVC systems in a wooden house lies in the fact that the frame is attached using the tongue and groove mechanism. This design allows you to create such operating conditions in which the deformation and subsidence of wood does not have a direct effect on the double-glazed window.

According to statistics, a wooden house can shrink up to 30 cm. Depending on the material, due to the drying of wood for 1 year after the construction of the building, the amount of shrinkage of the structure per meter of height is:

  • log: 40-60 mm;
  • beam: 30-40 mm;
  • beam glued 10-30 mm.

These factors should not be neglected, since the subsidence of the structure already in the first year threatens to crush the window with the crowns of the wall structure.

Shrinkage of the walls can also occur after 5 years of operation of the house under the influence of seasonal changes in the composition and humidity of the air. At the same time, the installation of windows in old houses also implies the presence of casing.

So, consider the algorithm for installing PVC systems in wooden houses.

Stage number 1. Preparatory work

Before starting direct installation, it is necessary to carry out a number of preparatory measures:

  • dismantling the old window (if replacement is taking place);
  • cleaning the opening from dirt and debris;
  • make the necessary measurements and calculations;
  • drawing up a drawing and fixing the measurement parameters of the opening;
  • alignment of the contours of the sides of the window opening, if the hole has an irregular shape;
  • alignment is performed using putty or sealant;
  • decide on the design and functionality (number of doors, their size, which of them will open);
  • determine the manufacturer and color of the product.

Only after completing all the above manipulations, we order a window from the manufacturer, taking into account individual wishes.

Stage number 2. Installation

As soon as the windows are delivered and the necessary preliminary work has been carried out, you can proceed directly to the installation. Tools:

  • drill;
  • construction level;
  • chisel;
  • screwdriver;
  • roulette;
  • mallet;
  • pliers;
  • anchor plates and bolts;
  • key for adjusting windows;
  • mounting foam;
  • spacer wedges;
  • spray bottle with water.

Casing: purpose, types and design

The casing is a box-shaped structure, which is made of three or four boards and installed around the perimeter inside the opening.

The system allows you to install a plastic window yourself, so that the window is fixed independently of the main wall structure and has a floating character. The window system is fixed with the help of grooves on the side, which are mounted on spikes protruding from the end of the logs and timber.

To fix and seal the casing, only tow, linen or fiber insulation is used. In any case, mounting foam.

Thus, the shrinkage of the walls of a wooden structure in no way affects the window and, moreover, will not damage it. Depending on the fasteners, casings can be classified into the following types:

  • into a spike. Such a design is characterized by the presence of a spike, which is mounted on the side parts of the casing, and a groove, which is located in the logs of the opening;
  • in a mortgage bar. The basis of the fastening is a bar, which is placed in a groove at the ends of the opening and passes through the casing posts;
  • into the deck. The spike is located at the ends of the logs of the window opening, but the groove is in the casing posts.

The box is a floating mechanism that excludes deformation of the plastic window during operation, regardless of the type of casing installation.

Calculations should be made with high accuracy, since even a slight error can lead to deformation of the window frame or leakage of the structure. In addition, proper installation is a guarantee of the quality of the plastic window itself.

How to make a pigtail (casing)

The design can be of two types: complex and simple. A simple pigtail is the system described above, with bars and grooves. The complex design is performed somewhat differently: a comb is cut out in the window opening, on which a carriage with grooves is put on. This option is more reliable. When the walls shrink, the comb can slide and does not allow vertical deviations, excluding pressure on the window frame.

The casing, as a rule, is made of timber. Using a wood chisel, a 0.5 cm groove is knocked out in the center of the beam, and a spike (0.5x0.5x.25 cm) is cut out from one end. A comb with spikes 0.5x0.5 cm is cut from the end of the opening logs. To do this, you can use a saw or a chisel.

After the comb is ready, we proceed to install the risers and form the opening structure between them. The bars are set according to the level, taking into account the gaps for shrinkage of the walls (1 cm on the sides and 0.5 cm on top). The frame of the bars is strengthened with the help of grooves with the main canvas of the walls and dowels between them. The gaps left are sealed with tow or other fiber. That's all, now you can proceed with the installation of the plastic frame itself. You can see the process in more detail in this video:

Stage number 3. Installation in the prepared opening

After carrying out the necessary preparatory work and installing the pigtails, you can proceed with the installation of the window.

To begin with, we check the dimensions and location of the parallels, the gaps between the casing and the frame. The stock for foaming should be: 4-5 cm at the top, 2-3 cm in width and height, 3-4 cm in the window sill area. After making sure that the stock corresponds to these indicators, we proceed directly to the installation of a plastic frame.

The window is fastened with special fasteners, which are sold at any hardware store. They are metal plates with holes.

Installation of a plastic window should be carried out according to the level. If you neglect this factor, then you risk getting a tilted design, which significantly reduces the operational and aesthetic objectives of the window.

After the window is fixed in the opening, it is necessary to fill the gap with mounting foam. To avoid displacement of the structure during foaming, bars are placed that will maintain the position of the frame without deviations. After drying, do not forget to remove it.

Securing the window in the casing is done with care. In this case, it is necessary to choose the correct location for tightening the screws. Under no circumstances should a window be fixed in the ridge area!

That's all, we finish the process by completely foaming the opening. We put on the sashes and let the foam dry.

We have presented the correct way to install a plastic window in a wooden house. This process can be difficult, so if you are unsure of your abilities, it is better to turn to professionals.

However, installing a plastic window with your own hands is a significant cost savings. We offer you to watch a video instruction for installing a window with your own hands:

Installing plastic windows in a wooden house: do-it-yourself installation video

Repair work in a wooden house differs significantly from similar buildings in a different form. Most companies do not provide a guarantee for installations carried out here, especially plastic windows. Isn't this a reason to think about DIY installation? Armed with a step-by-step video, you can achieve a high-quality result, significantly saving the family budget.

Features of installing a window system in a wooden house

There are many prejudices about wooden houses. The service life of PVC windows installed here depends entirely on the quality of the building itself and compliance with the technology of the installation process.

You can not start working with a window opening in a new wooden house right away. In order to avoid deformation in the future, it is recommended to wait some time for the structure to stand, the wood to dry out, excess moisture to evaporate from it, and the walls to become static. Thus, the chance of mowing the opening is minimized.

As a place for a window, do not choose the outer part of a wooden house. The opening can be in the center or closer to one of the corners, but not in contact with it.

The installation process itself is not too laborious: it can be carried out with one pair of hands in a few hours. The subtleties of the preparatory work depend on whether the windows have already been installed before or whether the casing needs to be created from scratch. A similar technology can be used to install PVC in any wooden building: a bathhouse, a gazebo, etc.

Preparing the Workspace

For hand-made installation of plastic windows, you need a reliable base - a frame. If the previous windows were installed within the last few years, did not have time to acquire physical damage and were not touched by rot, then you can use the box from them as a frame for the new system. With this option, measurements are made according to the new size of the opening, focusing on the preserved box.

If PVC is installed in a new building, then you will have to take care of the pigtail. This is the name of the design that prevents the window system from deformation. There are several types of it:

  • With a mortgage bar;
  • In the groove of a log wall;
  • On a spike in the wall;
  • With a quarter.

Using a rag, you can remove dirt, dust and start measuring. The reliability and expediency of carrying out all further work depends on their accuracy: inattention at this stage can jeopardize the entire installation.

Advice. If the opening is distorted, then to create a plan with measurements, they are guided by the supposedly correct geometric shape and right angles, and the deformations are removed with a sealant or ordinary putty.

Window sill installation and window preparation

The window sill is the basis of the entire window system, so its installation must be carried out with a level: the horizontal surface must be ideal from both the longitudinal and transverse positions.

To do the work with your own hands, the following algorithm of actions is used:

  1. Small recesses (at least 5 mm) are made in the window box for additional fixation of the window sill.
  2. Using plates made of fiberboard, plastic or wood treated with an antiseptic, level the level of the window sill.
  3. With the help of self-tapping screws, the installation of the window sill is carried out. A gasket or washer must be placed under the caps to prevent cracks. For self-tapping screws, you need to choose a place where they will be hidden by a future window. Usually, it is located at a distance of 2-4 cm from the end.
  4. After installing the window sill, its horizontalness is checked using the building level.

As for the window itself, it is necessary to attach the handle in the downward position (closed state) before installation.

Window installation

Installing a window in a prepared area of a wooden house is no different from installing it in another structure. The process is performed in the following sequence:

  1. Marking the window frame and drilling mounting holes. The procedure is performed using a 6 mm drill for the corresponding self-tapping screw 1 mm smaller in diameter.
  2. Installation of the system in the opening. At the same time, they are guided by the window sill, the even level of which, thanks to additional control, is beyond doubt. The center is determined using a centimeter tape.
  3. Level relative to the wall. To make the window parallel to the wall surface, use a plumb line. If it is trimmed with siding, which allows you to place a level between the trim and the wall, then you can use it.
  4. Fixing a bar that would completely fill the space between the window and its frame. It will become the focus for further installation. Installation without it may lead to overlapping of the window opening-closing mechanism.
  5. The window is fastened with self-tapping screws from the bottom and top of the side posts, so that they do not interfere with the free opening of the window in the box.
  6. Foaming of cracks and removal of its excess.

Installing a PVC window with your own hands can save up to 60% of the family budget. Following the detailed instructions for their installation will make the structure resistant to seasonal tree deformations, extending the life of the system for a long time.

You can insert windows in a wooden house with your own hands today without resorting to the services of professionals. Modern metal-plastic window systems allow you to give the facade a neat, well-groomed appearance. Installing windows with energy-saving properties significantly reduces the level of energy consumption in a private house. A plastic window in a wooden house creates the necessary microclimate and comfort.

Features of a wooden house with PVC windows

Plastic windows are distinguished by their energy-saving properties due to their design. In order for this quality to be fully realized, normal ventilation conditions must be created in a wooden house, otherwise unpleasant phenomena cannot be avoided.

In a wooden house with PVC windows, it is necessary to properly equip ventilation

If we talk about a newly built wooden house, then its main feature is natural shrinkage, which takes some time. This is the main condition that should be taken into account when installing windows in wooden houses in order to avoid situations when the window structure is deformed during shrinkage and will irrevocably fail.

Measurement

Carrying out measurements in a wooden house is different from measurements in houses made of other materials. This is due to the fact that wood is able to change its parameters depending on environmental influences. When moisture is absorbed, the wood expands.

The gap between the window frame and the opening should have a minimum size, but sufficient to take into account the possible expansion of the opening when the wood swells. Otherwise, window skew is inevitable.

The gap between the frame and the opening is left taking into account the possible swelling of the wood

If a plastic window is to be installed in an old wooden house and it is planned to leave the existing wooden frame, then at the stage of making this decision, the frame should be inspected for traces of decay and insect infestation. The frame must be strong, because it will be the base to which the window will be attached.

If the existing frame is unsuitable, then measurements are made taking into account the presence of this structural element of the window in the future. If there are slopes before measurements, they are removed, since the clean window opening can be much larger.

Criteria for choosing a window system

The window system consists of several components, each of which performs its function and is important in its own way.

How to choose the right glass

The surface of the glass occupies the bulk of the area of the window structure, so a greater percentage of heat loss occurs through it.

Modern double-glazed windows are characterized by the number of internal air chambers filled with an inert gas, which has a low thermal conductivity. Hence the name - single-chamber or two-chamber.

Three-chamber double-glazed windows have higher thermal insulation characteristics

A double-glazed window consists of three glasses 0.4 cm thick, installed at a distance of 1.6 cm each. That is, an indicator of 1.6 cm is the width of the air chamber.

The ability of the glass surface to resist heat loss can be enhanced by applying protective transparent or tinted layers to windows. Tinting is golden, silver, bronze, bottle blue or glass green.

How to choose the right profile

When inserting windows in a wooden house with your own hands, it is important to take a responsible approach to choosing a profile. Shutters and a window frame are made of a metal-plastic profile. It, like a double-glazed window, has a certain number of chambers in its design, which directly affects its thickness. The air in the profile chambers has a low coefficient of thermal conductivity. More chambers - higher energy efficiency of the design. For example, a five-chamber profile with triple glazing is also capable of performing a soundproof function.

Each window structure is equipped with a drip tray to remove accumulated moisture, as well as a special chamber at the bottom of the profile, which contains silica gel - these are small yellow granules. This substance accumulates in itself excess condensate, which can form on the glasses.

You can choose a profile laminated under a tree

To make a wooden wall with a pvc window look harmonious, the profile can be laminated. At the same time, the universal white color will also look good on the facade of a wooden house. You can laminate the profile under walnut, cherry, oak or mahogany - these are the most common options.. In the case of lamination under natural wood species, cashing and window sills are made in the same design, and brown tide is chosen.

How to choose fittings and seals

Fittings - this is the element of the window system, which should not only have a beautiful appearance, but also be durable and reliable. The internal mechanisms of the tilt-and-turn system can withstand repeated loads. Therefore, they are made of high quality and durable material.

The lifespan of the windows largely depends on the quality of the fittings.

The sealing material for a plastic window must withstand temperature extremes and not collapse over time.

Checking products before installation

In order to avoid problems and unexpected unpleasant surprises during the installation, it is important to first check the readiness and completeness of the products that the manufacturer must deliver to the installation site. If the delivered product has obvious defects during visual inspection, then it must be returned.

If the customer takes out the finished windows from the territory of the manufacturer on his own, then this check must be carried out at the place of manufacture of the products. As a rule, the company's managers themselves offer to do this, so that later the customer signs the act of work performed that he has no complaints about the quality of the products.

The measurement results are indicated in the measurement sheet.

It is necessary to check the dimensions indicated in the act, and for reliability, compare them with the dimensions in the measuring sheet. A copy of it is given to the customer along with the contract, which sometimes specifies maximum permissible deviations. In case of discrepancy, the act is not signed, and the product is given to the manufacturer for rework.

If everything is fine with the dimensions, then the next step is to check the plane of the product - it should be even, without bends and deformations. The window system is delivered assembled, so it is important to check the sash control mechanism. Then the integrity of the double-glazed window and the density of the sealing elements inside are checked.

Installation of windows in a wooden house on an existing frame

If the house is not new, then you first have to dismantle the old wooden windows, this must be done carefully, since some elements are quite suitable for use in the subsidiary farm. When all the preparatory work has been completed, you can proceed with the installation of the window. How to properly insert windows in a modern wooden house with your own hands will be discussed below.

For the installation of windows during construction, preparation of the opening is not required

First you need to remove debris from the window box and clean it. Next comes the installation of the window sill. Control over the horizontal position is carried out using a level.

So that the window sill does not “ride” during the fastening process, its end sides can be brought into the side racks, where it is necessary to make appropriate recesses. It is necessary to fix the window sill with self-tapping screws. The window must be inserted using the unpacking method, that is, it will be necessary to remove the sashes and double-glazed windows.

Wood screws secure the window frame to the box. It is important to control the vertical position of the window frame. It is placed in the center of the opening so that there are spaces on both sides for the assembly seam. Fix its immobility with bars or wedges.

Be sure to leave a gap between the frame and the opening, which is filled with mounting foam

When filling the mounting joints with foam, the spacers are not removed until it has completely solidified. And after the foam hardens, it is cut and covered with a solution or plastic lining to protect it from direct sunlight, under the influence of which the material is destroyed.

When the frame is fixed, all previously removed elements of the window system are installed in reverse order.

Installing a window in a log house

In order to avoid troubles that may occur as a result of shrinkage, openings in a log house must be carefully prepared. The installation of windows in a log house occurs with a pigtail or, in other words, a casing device.

The installation of windows in a log house begins with the installation of a casing or pigtail, which ensures the independence of the window system from the behavior of the walls of the house. Wooden windows can also be installed in this way.

To install windows in a log house, first mount the pigtail

There are two types of casing device when building a log house. More common is the method in which grooves are made in the end parts of the logs in the opening, into which bars of the same size are placed. Usually it is 50x50 mm. This method is used when it is necessary to insert a window from a tree.

For double-glazed windows, the second method is used: a comb is cut out at the ends of the logs, on which a carriage with a groove is put on, inside which, as if along guides, the log will shrink when dried.

A carriage is a vertically oriented structure made of a 150x100 mm beam, having a length greater than the size of the window by an average of 5 cm.

Installation of windows in frame houses

Do-it-yourself installation of windows in a frame house is carried out without installing casing, since the material of the frame of such a house is not subject to shrinkage.

Scheme for installing a window in a frame house

Installation of windows in a modern wooden house is carried out by attaching them to anchor plates, which must be purchased in advance if they were not included with the window. During installation, it is important not to forget to control the position of the window in the plane horizontally and vertically.

The plates are attached to the end parts of the frame in five places. One in the center on top and two on both sides with an indent from the edge of the frame of at least 20-25 cm. Then the window is installed in the opening, a gap is left for the foam from below, placing bars under the frame, and the frame is fixed to the pigtail. The side gaps are also foamed.

Do-it-yourself installation of windows in a wooden house should not cause difficulties, subject to the technology of installation work and taking into account the specifics of a log house.

A house built of wood undergoes certain changes during the entire period of operation. It can dry out, sit down and return to its previous parameters. This feature does not allow tightly fixing windows and doors in the opening, as is done in concrete and brick structures. To insert frames into openings, a window frame is made in a wooden house. It is also called casing or window frame, to which a frame or door is attached.

What is wood window casing

In the modern construction market, recently there are often houses made of a log house, a shield or a bar. These are baths, and country houses, and country houses. Despite the fact that new technologies allow the creation of innovative building materials, environmentally friendly wood remains in demand. In addition, such structures have a beautiful appearance.

A feature of wooden buildings, which is called shrinkage, occurs under the influence of temperature factors. Wood is able to absorb water and dry out over time. The most vulnerable modules of the house are windows and doors, or rather, their openings. Such movements of the building can disrupt their functionality or lead to complete destruction. To avoid this, a special technology for their installation is used, in which a pigtail is inserted into the opening. It is a wooden box made in a special way.

The technology for installing windows in wooden houses provides for the installation of a box

The structure of the casing includes: a window sill, a top and two sidewalls. The boards that are used for its manufacture are about 25 cm in size. A material is chosen that has a moisture content of about 10%. You should not take drier wood, as it may have cracks invisible to the eye, as a result of which it will begin to collapse when the building shrinks.

Classification of casing types for wooden structures

Specialists classify structures into several types, taking into account different features.

The cheapest and easiest way to set up a casing is a mortgage bar

Depending on the form of the casing, they are divided into:

  • Casing "mortgage bar". This is the most inexpensive type of pigtail. From an ordinary board, the thickness of which is 30-50 mm, a box is made. From the inside of the opening, a groove is cut out for the timber. This simple design is very quickly assembled, but it is worth remembering that, having chosen it, you will have to finish the slopes after installing the window.
  • U-shaped, they are also called "in the deck". This classic look is made by cutting a spike at the end of the wall, on which the vertical elements of the pigtail are installed. A log house moves along them during shrinkage. This design allows you to remove the load on window and door openings and makes it possible for the frames inserted into them to function correctly. The pigtail is impregnated with an antiseptic solution and insulated between the spike and the groove. To avoid drafts, a wind lock is made under the windowsill. A soft insulation is laid over the upper part of the casing.
  • T-shaped casing or, as it is also called, “into a spike”. A groove is cut in the end part of the opening, the side parts of the box are made with a T-shaped profile. On the casing risers, you need to glue the bars that provide stiffeners that hold the pigtail in a certain shape. In the manufacture of this type of box, it is necessary to strictly adhere to the technology. Do not fasten the bars with nails or self-tapping screws, this will affect the freezing of the opening. Be sure to treat the tree with an antiseptic and insulate the seams with special material.

The type of pigtail and the method of installation are selected in accordance with the features of the structure

The type of casing is chosen depending on the structure. What is better to do in a particular case, a professional will tell you.

In addition to the listed types, builders distinguish the following types of casing:

  • Draft. This type is inexpensive and suitable for buildings whose openings will be finished in the future.
  • Finishing. If you choose this option, then in the future you will not have to finish the slopes.
  • euroobsada. This type will require additional finishing of the slopes. A special feature is the use of adhesive material from solid pine lamellas.
  • Power. Experts advise using this option in an arched opening, as well as using it for panoramic windows, balcony blocks.
  • Arched. This option is used to strengthen the arches. They are made from both solid wood and glued beams. The cost will depend on the type of material from which the casing is made.
  • Combined. When using this type of pigtail, you need to know that the base of the box is made of coniferous wood, and the top layer is glued from oak, pine or beech slabs. This option of casing is more expensive.

Appointment of casing in the construction of wooden structures

Such an element is mandatory in the design of the whole house. Its absence leads to the fact that the window opening can completely collapse under the influence of shrinkage of the house. In addition, if the wood dries out significantly, cracks and gaps will appear between the frames and the wall of the building, which will lead to large heat loss and drafts.

It is very important to use a pigtail if there is a small distance between the windows.. A design made in accordance with all the rules will decorate your wooden house.

An okosyachka protects the window opening from destruction during shrinkage of the house

Please note that wooden window casing is not always suitable for PVC frames.. If you decide to replace the old wooden windows in a wooden house with plastic frames, you need to pay attention to the pigtail when dismantling. If it is not suitable for a new plastic window, then it must be dismantled and a new one installed, carefully observing the technology.

Properly installed frames made of PVC material will serve you for a long period of time. And if you choose the color of the film covering the plastic structure, which resembles natural wood, this will allow the products to look harmonious, combined with the entire wooden structure.

Making a pigtail with your own hands

Before creating a casing with your own hands, you need to prepare the tools for work:

  • jigsaw;
  • grinder;
  • drill;
  • chainsaw;
  • screwdriver

The first and important point is the choice of window design (plastic double-glazed windows or wooden windows), the choice of casing depends on this. If plastic frames are installed, a support threshold will be required. With a wooden version of the windows, such a sill is not needed.

On the sides of the opening, you need to cut a groove for the timber, which will protect the logs from moving out. In this way, a kind of skid is obtained, along which the logs slide without pressing on the window.

The upper part of the casing is installed last.

Installation is done like this:

  • the lower part is being installed;
  • side elements are attached;
  • Finally, the upper part is attached.

A gap is left between the upper part of the pigtail and the opening to compensate for the shrinkage of the structure. Insulating material is laid along the perimeter between the casing and the wall. Do not use mounting foam when installing pigtails.

After completing the installation of the box, proceed to the installation of the frame. If the frame is plastic, then you need to cut a wooden layer along the outer part of the opening. This will create an emphasis for the plastic window and will not allow it to deform.

The parts of the casing are interconnected in the following ways:

  • wedge connection;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • spiked connection.

Okosyachka in a spike with a ready-made slope

If the box is connected with self-tapping screws, be careful that they do not stick into the wall logs. Having completed the installation of the box, proceed to install the window and finish the outside and inside. The slopes and the window sill are made of plastic if the frame is plastic. When installing a wooden double-glazed window, the slopes can be plastered. On the outer part of the window, a low tide and platbands are fixed.

Technological stages of casing installation

For the successful installation of a pigtail, a prerequisite will be compliance with the technology:

  • an opening is sawn in the wall, which is located at a height of 80 cm from the floor;
  • a groove or a ridge is cut out - it depends on the type of casing chosen;
  • all wooden elements are impregnated with an antiseptic solution;
  • insulate the opening around the perimeter using heat-insulating materials.

The casing box is mounted with the obligatory observance of the technology

It is necessary to take measurements for ordering the manufacture of plastic frames after preparing the opening and installing the casing. This avoids incorrect sizes.

Features of creating and installing a box for plastic frames

When installing a pigtail in a wooden structure, you need to know some of the features of its installation. The box can be about 26 cm wide. Larger widths are also used, but this sometimes causes cracks in the casing. It is recommended to make a box using materials whose moisture content is 10-12%. The drier the raw material, the more likely it is to crack..

For the installation of PVC windows, a complicated version of the casing is used.

When installing plastic frames, a complicated version of the casing is suitable. A carriage with grooves is made and a comb is sawn out.

A structure assembled from a bar with grooves for a comb is called a pigtail carriage. The size of the grooves is made so that the frame slides easily along the guides when the house shrinks.

The price for the manufacture of casing depends not only on the size of the opening, but also on the raw materials from which the house itself is built (log house, log or timber). To get a quality product, you should order it from trusted builders. To do the casing with your own hands, you need to understand all the nuances of the process and purchase the required tool for the job.

When starting to install windows from a plastic profile into wooden walls, please note that you cannot insert them without a pigtail. It will help create conditions under which the frame will serve you for a long period of time without deforming or requiring repair.

Being engaged in self-repair, many are interested in:

“Is it possible to install PVC windows with your own hands?”

"How difficult is it?"

This event can be classified as medium-difficult work.

In terms of time, it may take about five hours for a person without experience to work on replacing the middle window, including its dismantling.

Constantly practicing employees of specialized firms spend much less time on this.

The upper and side parts from the inside of the room and from the outside are closed with slopes. They may be made from the same material or using a different technology.

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic windows

Measurement

To order plastic windows, you need to make important ones. These are six mandatory indicators: the width and length of the window sill and slope, the width and height of the window.

In order for the measurements to be performed correctly, you need to determine the type of your window opening - with or without a quarter.

The opening is inspected: it is a quarter if the inside of the window is wider and the outside is narrower. Measurements in this case are carried out at the narrowest point, and at several different points. It is necessary to determine the smallest indicator, and add three centimeters to it. This is a measure of the width. The height is set as it is.

In the case of an even opening, without a quarter, the calculation is carried out differently. Height and width are measured, and five cm are subtracted from the first value, and three are the second. This is the height and width of the future window. The side three cm are removed because gaps of one and a half cm are needed under the mounting foam on both sides. Five cm of height are distributed as follows: the same one and a half cm from above, and 3.5 cm below will be required for mounting the window sill.

The length of the window sill is considered to be five to ten centimeters greater than the width of the opening inside the room. The length of the ebb is also calculated, but outside. For some distance they go deep into the wall. The window sill is measured on the basis that it should deviate somewhat from.

Its width can be different - at the discretion of the owners. More often it ends a little further than the battery. Before ordering, you need to decide what components will be in your window, and how many of them there will be: is there a capercaillie, if so, where is it located, the number of sashes, how they open, in what positions. The type of fittings used is also considered in advance.

Preparing for installation

Removing old windows

When replacing windows with new ones, the old ones must be dismantled. This is easy to do, but it will take some effort. Then an audit of the opening is carried out, during which everything that can fall off later is removed. All protruding parts are removed with a chisel, hammer or even power tools.

All debris generated during the dismantling process must be carefully removed, including construction dust. In the presence of large cavities or potholes, it is advisable to cover them with a solution. The fact is that the installation is easier to carry out, the smoother the window opening. If the walls are made of too loose material, they should be treated with special ones.

The choice of installation method for metal-plastic windows

There are various installation methods: with window disassembly (unpacking) and without.

When unpacking, holes are drilled through the frame through which anchors are driven into the wall. This method is more difficult, but more reliable.

With another method, metal plates are attached to the outside of the frame, then they are fixed to the wall with them. This is much faster, but such a mount is not the most reliable. The frame may sag or warp under significant loads, such as strong winds.

If you do not want to disassemble the window, then for installation it is better to use wide and thick plates used when installing the system. If you install small windows on just such, then they will stand normally in the absence of strong wind loads.

If your region is characterized by frequent and strong winds that blow mainly through the windows, and the apartment is located on a high floor, then installation with disassembly will be required.

Window installation technology

Let's take a closer look at both methods. Indeed, it is often the method of mounting on plates that is required.

It is preferred in buildings erected from low bearing capacity, when it is necessary to distribute the load from windows over a large surface.

Also, this method is necessary in the case of building a building using a special “layered” technology: for example, behind and in front of concrete layers, between which a layer of insulation is placed.

If it is intended to install a window in a soft layer, then it should be fixed with plates. Installation of PVC windows in a house, panel or cinder block is best done on an anchor.

After installation, only a plastic profile will remain in three planes and in two axes of rotation.

Installation with unpacking

With this method, only the frame is installed in the opening.

First, the window opening and the frame itself are measured to make sure they are compatible. Only after that they start working.

The process begins with unpacking the window. Actions are carried out according to the following algorithm:

Removing window sash

  1. the window is placed in the closed position, its handle is directed down;
  2. pry off with a screwdriver and remove the plastic lining from the hinges;
  3. the pin on the top hinge serves as a movable connection, it is located in the center and protrudes slightly. By pressing, you need to slightly drown it so that it slides out below. Then it is grabbed with pliers (or side cutters) and pulled down;
  4. hold the sash at the top, turn the handle, opening the lock. The upper part deviates slightly towards itself, the sash rises and is removed from the pin at the bottom.

The double-glazed window is also removed on the capercaillie. It is held by glazing beads, which are removed, after which it can be easily removed.

Beads are removed

  1. something strong and narrow is inserted between the frame and the glazing bead, for which it is convenient to use a spatula. Disassembly usually starts on the long side;
  2. the angle of the spatula is inserted into the slot and the glazing bead is gently moved away from the frame, moving along the entire length. The separated glazing bead is taken out;
  3. with a short side is even simpler: the freed edge is hooked and removed from the groove by turning the spatula. By pulling it up, the glazing bead is removed.

After all of the above activities, you can try to pull out the double-glazed window. You should be careful that it does not fall out: it is quite heavy.

The double-glazed window is pulled out

  • along the outer perimeter, the released frame is glued with self-adhesive tape, as recommended by GOST, so that the future window does not dry out;
  • remove the protective tape;
  • a prepared frame is inserted into the opening. To set it up, you will need mounting wedges, which are placed under the impost and in the corners, as well as in places where it is necessary. They are gradually laid down, while the window is aligned in three planes, strictly according to the level. The position of the window is fixed using mounting plates;
  • with a drill with a drill of the right size, fixing holes are made, retreating 15-18 cm from the top edge for the first of them. At approximately the same distance from the bottom corner there will be a place for the lower fastener. In a standard window, another anchor is placed between them: the distance between adjacent fasteners should not exceed 70 cm;
  • having made holes for fastening, in all three planes they check the position of the frame - whether it has moved. After that, the anchor is carefully hammered in, tightened, but not overtightened. It is impossible for the profile to sag;

Arrangement of low tides from the street side

  • self-adhesive vapor-permeable insulation is glued outside the frame. Neat strobes are made along the sides of the opening: later, the edges of the tides will be brought into them;
  • on the outer part of the opening, in the place where the tide is supported on the wall, a mounting foam is applied. In some cases (with large elevation differences), a lining profile is first mounted, to which the ebb is attached. The ebb of the desired size is fixed with screws to the frame under its ledge;
  • the tide foams along the bottom edge;
  • the opening is also foamed. In summer, for a better setting of the foam, the space between the opening and the frame is sprayed with water;
  • a heat-insulating vapor-permeable strip is glued along the contour of the window frame;
  • all gaps for two-thirds of the volume are filled with foam. With a large gap, it is necessary to do this in several stages, with an interval of at least ten minutes between applications. After the first layer dries, it is sprayed with water, then the next one is applied;
  • until complete polymerization has occurred, the edge of the tape is glued to the window opening. It is important to remember that when using heat-insulating tape, the slopes must be made of plastic. Mortar and plaster do not stick to it;
  • all parts of the window are assembled;
  • vapor barrier tape is also installed under the window sill, at the bottom. Support pads made of solid are also mounted there at a distance of 50 cm. The window sill should have a small (about 5 degrees) slope into the room;
  • slopes are closed last.

Installation without unpacking

All the details and nuances of this work have been listed above. Installation begins with the installation of special mounting plates, which can be linear and U-shaped. They must be thick enough and reliable. They are placed with the same pitch as the anchors: between the middle ones no more than 70 cm, from the edge 15-25 cm.

Further, installation according to this method is carried out similarly to the process that has already been detailed, starting with leveling the window in the opening. Only in this case, not the frame itself is fixed, but metal plates, and self-tapping screws are used instead of anchors. A hole is made with a drill, then the plate is bent, a dowel is placed, the plate is returned to its place, and the dowel is wrapped. Further, everything is as in the first option.
