How to sew fabric shelves. How to make a beautiful wardrobe with your own hands. Prices for STORAGE WARDROBE folding frame fabric wardrobe

No matter how many cabinets you buy, there is always an acute shortage of storage space for all things. Necessary little things remain scattered throughout the apartment. And no matter how hard you try to put everything in its place, it is almost impossible to achieve order in the house. And here do-it-yourself hanging shelves made of fabric can come to the rescue.

Fabric hanging shelves will not only help you use every meter of room space, but will also become a highlight in your interior.

Such shelves are a great place to store combs, cosmetics, books and magazines, children's toys. If your family has a small child, then this hanging structure will serve as a place to store pacifiers, bottles, powders and diapers. Everything that you may need at any time will always be at hand. And if you show a little imagination, then such a shelf will easily fit into any interior and will become not only useful, but also a very stylish accessory. And you can create these little masterpieces with your children. After all, needlework with mom is a useful and fun pastime.

Suspended structures

Hanging shelves are also called pockets. They really most of all resemble pockets of different shapes and sizes, assembled into one design. Ideas for such pocket shelves can be found in design magazines or catalogs of large stores selling home goods. They present a fairly wide range of hanging structures for storing clothes, shoes, jewelry or accessories for washing.

Such pockets came to us from Europe, where they became popular 30 years ago and have not ceased to be fashionable since then. Naturally, because they have a lot of undeniable advantages:

There are many options for fabric shelves, an original shelf with bright pockets will be an ideal solution for a nursery.

  1. They can be placed anywhere in the apartment (bathroom, children's room, hallway).
  2. Despite their small size, they are able to accommodate a lot of things.
  3. Hinged soft shelves do not take up much space. They can be placed along a wall, a door, inside a wardrobe, etc.
  4. They are very easy to care for. As a rule, such pockets can be machine washed.

But shelves sewn at the factory have 1 significant drawback. They cost about the same as full-fledged furniture made of plastic.

Therefore, hanging shelves are more profitable to sew with your own hands. This will require a minimum of sewing skills and very little time. You can make this piece of furniture from almost anything. Multi-colored patches will come in handy (even worn-out clothes will do), decorative braid, buttons, small soft toys and the like.

Materials and tools

Whatever model of shelves you choose, you will definitely need the following tools:

The design of the pockets depends only on your imagination, the main thing is to choose the right fabric.

  • sewing machine;
  • iron;
  • large tailor's scissors;
  • ripper (can be replaced with nail scissors with sharp tips);
  • pins;
  • sewing needles;
  • ironer (can be replaced with a piece of gauze);
  • tailor's chalk or a piece of dry colored soap.

As a rule, soft shelves are sewn without preliminary production of patterns. All markings are applied directly to the fabric. That is, you do not need paper.

Some models require sufficiently dense walls that hold their shape. In this case, the side parts are cut out in the form of a pocket, inside which a piece of cardboard cut to size is inserted. But cardboard can be replaced with a non-adhesive dense dublerin or a “board” fabric. Then the part from the duplicate fabric is cut out in the same way as the main part, they are folded together and swept away. And then they are processed as a single element. Dublerin can be replaced with a bando gasket, which is used when sewing hard lambrequins.

Hanging bathroom shelves should be made of water-repellent material, otherwise damp fabric will cause fungus.

The choice of material for sewing a shelf depends not only on your tastes and preferences, but also on the purpose of this decor element. If you want to put a shelf in the bathroom, then choose fabrics with water-repellent impregnation. Raincoat or jacket materials are suitable for you. You can use the fabric that is used for sewing swimwear or synthetic lycra. As a rule, such materials are bright, saturated, neon colors.

For a shelf that will hang in the room, choose reliable fabrics with a dense weave of threads: poplin, satin, calico. If you are making a shelf designed to store baby things, then it is also more reasonable to cut out the wrong side of the pocket from impregnated fabric. Then even a liquid accidentally spilled from a bottle will not cause much harm.

Otherwise, the choice of materials and finishes depends entirely on your taste. You can use almost any fabric, artificial leather, fur. The main thing is to give scope to your imagination.

Soft fabric shelving

A shelf sewn in the form of a rack is most conveniently used for storing clothes or bed linen, diapers. It fits comfortably in a wardrobe or built-in wardrobe. It can be hung on the crossbar, on which the "hangers" with outerwear are placed.

If desired, the compartments of the "rack" can be made multi-colored. And add patch pockets to the outer sidewalls. Then you will have additional storage space.

In order to assemble the shelf, you will need the following parts:

The hanging rack can be made in black and white, complemented with suitable accessories.

  • 1 main part, size 1160*1350 mm;
  • 1 detail of the upper and lower bottom - 1040 * 330 cm;
  • 6 parts-shelves - 520 * 310 mm;
  • fastening loop - 280*320 mm.

To make a hanging shelf, you need 3 m of fabric (this parameter may change if you make your changes to the pattern). For the main part, it is wiser to take a very dense material. For example, denim. If you want the lid and bottom to be not too rigid, then replace the cardboard with thin plywood.

Pattern allowances are provided. Above and below the central part of the product, they are 2 cm, on the remaining sections - 1 cm each.

Tailoring of a soft shelf

Lay the fabric face down. Using chalk, mark the details on it, starting with the main one. The required dimensions are shown in the diagram. The rectangles labeled ABBA and CDDC represent the side walls of the rack. Accordingly, the lines BB and SS are the fold of the fabric (the corners of the future shelf). Mark the location of future shelves (lines from Z 1 Z 1 to Z 6 Z 6). Cut out the main element, and then draw and cut out the rest of the details in size.

Housewives who love needlework will appreciate this device for storing small things.

Turn the front vertical sections of the part to the wrong side to a width of 10 mm and stitch, laying the line close to the edge. Treat one side of the horizontal side of each piece of the shelf in the same way.

Return to the main detail. Fold in the horizontal seams (hem width 15 mm, inside hem 5 mm) and stitch. Alternately fold the main part along the marked sewing lines of the shelves with the right side out and iron. This will make it easier to sew parts. Put the horizontal cut of each shelf inside the fold and stitch on the front side of the main part, grabbing the shelves. Make sure that the stitching runs 5 mm from the fold of the fabric. The line must be started and finished without reaching the corner (shelving walls) 1 cm. In the same way, stitch the details of the shelves to the sides of the main element, ending the line exactly at the horizontal seam.

Fold the loop in half, right side in. Stitch all the cuts, leaving a small area for eversion. Turn the piece right side out, iron and sew up the open seam (this is best done by hand). Sew the loop to the edge, process the buttonholes at one end.

Turn the short sections of the details of the top and bottom to the wrong side (by 10 mm), iron and stitch to the edge. Fold the elements in half, right side inward so that you have a fold along one short side. Sew the sidewalls by laying a line at a distance of 10 mm from the cut. Cut seam allowances to a width of 5 mm. Turn the part inside out, straightening the corners, and iron the edges.

Construction assembly

Position the top and bottom pieces so that their fold faces the front of the shelving unit.

Scheme of assembling a rack made of fabric: a - cloth link; b - brackets (upper and lower); c - rigid plywood insert.

Fold the long top section of the lid and bottom with the back wall of the main part, right sides together. Lay the stitch down, ironing the bottom and lid allowance. Tuck the lower part of the bottom and lid and stitch.

Take together the long side of the parts and the corresponding side of the main element. Sweep them together. Tuck the loose sections of the bottom and lid, stitch them, grabbing the allowance of the main part and the top layer of fabric. Thus, pockets for duplicate elements are formed.

Stitch the stalemate to the lid, sewing the buttons to the stitched end so that they coincide with the loops. Finish and stitch the side pockets if desired.

Process plywood blanks with sandpaper, round the corners. Insert duplicate parts into the top and bottom shelving unit. Now the shelf can be hung on the bracket. Throw a stalemate over it and fasten with buttons. Additionally, the shelf can be decorated with braid, lace, beads and tassels. If you want the shelves to be quite rigid too, then treat them in the same way as the top and bottom of the shelving unit. Then put a hard pad inside.

Shelf for newspapers and magazines

To make an original shelf for storing newspapers and magazines, you will need 2 wooden crossbars.

As the crossbars, you can take curtain rods. And the holders for the cornices will serve as fasteners for this design. In addition, you will need the main and lining fabric. Its consumption depends on the dimensions of the shelf. In the example shown, the length of the shelf is 1.5 m, and the depth is 0.5 m. When calculating the required amount of material, you must also take into account the allowance for the drawstring for threading the crossbars. It should be equal to the diameter of the beam plus 2 cm for a loose fit. Allowances for all cuts are 1 cm. And another 1.5 cm for stitching the drawstring. We get the following calculation:

To make a fabric shelf for books, magazines and newspapers, you will need wooden crossbars, brackets or holders for fastening and fabric.

Shelf depth + girth of the beam + 2 cm + allowance for attaching the drawstring + allowance for hem = 50 + 15 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 70 cm.

Thus, the height of the upper and lower parts will be 70 cm, and the width will be 152 cm (main width + hem allowances).

Cut out the details from the main and lining fabric. On the front side, mark the allowances for the drawstring and its stitching. Fold the main and duplicate parts right sides together. Sew them around the perimeter to a width of 1 cm from the cut. Leave a small gap in the seam to turn inside out.

Turn the part right side out, carefully straightening the corners. Sew up the remaining open area by hand. Iron the fabrics and stitch along the entire perimeter at a distance of 0.5 cm from the edge (for this you can use threads in a contrasting color). According to the markings for the belt loop, bend the fabric and sew, forming a pocket. Hanging shelf is ready. It remains to thread the beams into the loops and fix them on the wall.

To do this, mark the places for fastening and drill the wall by installing dowels in the holes. Make sure that the sockets are 1 mm smaller than the dowel. Fix the brackets with self-tapping screws. Install the beams with the shelf put on them. You can build a similar shelf, but instead of a drawstring, make loops as described in the instructions for the rack. If you are creating decor for a children's room, then the cover can be decorated with bright and funny applications.

Shelves are quite often used not only to complement and decorate the overall interior of the room, but also for a clearer and more appropriate organization of space. Thanks to their use, the owner of the apartment gets the opportunity to conveniently arrange a huge number of small things that are simply lost in the cabinets.

Today, there are many different models on the market, which are made of different materials. They also differ in design.

You can choose not only products with a classic design, but also ultra-modern designs.

But more and more people prefer to make such interior details on their own. Asking how to make a shelf with their own hands, they re-read a lot of literature and look through a lot of catalogs.

However, this does not mean that self-manufacturing of a shelf is difficult and beyond the power of a person who does not have special skills. No, this is absolutely not true.

In this case, familiarization with the literature is necessary in order to create a product with a beautiful design that will fit into the overall interior. Let's consider in more detail what shelves are.

Types of shelves

Any specialist will tell you that before you start creating a product, you need to decide for yourself what kind of design you want to get and whether it will be combined with the interior. And only after that you can start creating the product.

Indeed, for a house decorated in a classically seasoned style, it is completely unacceptable to use trendy and modern shelves. They will look extremely awkward.

The most popular and widely known subspecies of shelves is the classic shelf. This is due to the fact that it is quite easy to install, and the appearance, thanks to its simplicity, seems refined and sophisticated.

Used with success and open, closed shelves. Closed products are most often used for decoration and installation in rooms decorated in more modern styles. Glass and sometimes plastic are used for their construction.

Open structures can be used both in modernly designed houses and in apartments with a classic design. Over the past few years, this particular type of shelf has gained immense popularity and therefore is gradually replacing the classic options.

In small rooms, you can often see corner shelves that have a special way of fastening. They are mounted on adjacent walls that are adjacent to each other. Most often they are used in bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms.

In addition to the above types of shelves that are mounted on the wall, there are suspended and floor structures. Hanging shelves are mounted in an unusual way.

They are installed using cables and vertical racks, and are attached directly to the ceiling. This mount looks quite unusual and original.

Floor structures are most often used in hallways. After all, do-it-yourself outdoor shoe racks not only look beautiful, but also help you organize the space of a small hallway. It is quite easy to make them though.

How to make a simple shelf

To create the claimed product, you should purchase or prepare some tools and materials in advance. As connecting elements, you can use whatever suits you best. But the most popular are ordinary screws, brackets and dowels.

Note!

For example, take a photo of the shelves with your own hands, which is presented below. It depicts a product with the following parameters: width 250 mm, height 300 mm, length 1100 mm. The manufacturing process for convenience will be divided into stages.

Stages of work

At the first stage, you need to markup. To do this, you should lay the boards on a table or any other flat surface and transfer the measurements from the drawings. The side walls must have a height of exactly 268 mm.

This marking is optimal because the side walls will be located between the two parts.

At the second stage, it is required to cut the boards. To get even and neat cuts, you need to use an electric jigsaw. After cutting, you will get 2 fairly long blanks and 2 shorter ones.

At the third stage, you can start processing the received blanks. The resulting segments should be covered with a special protective varnish or stain, after sanding them.

Note!

In the event that you plan only to paint the shelf, you can get by with a conventional antiseptic primer. So you will increase not only the service life, but also achieve a more even distribution of paint.

At the fourth stage of making a wooden shelf with your own hands, you proceed to its direct assembly. The bottom board should be laid on a flat surface. Step back 8 mm from the ends of the workpiece and draw two lines parallel to the cuts.

They should mark 2 points with a distance of 5 cm from the edge. At the marked points, it is necessary to drill holes for self-tapping screws. With the second workpiece it is necessary to do the same manipulations.

After that, you should install the side blanks on the bottom of the board and secure them. Once you're done attaching the side panels, move on to installing the top panel and securing it.

At the fifth stage, you should fix the brackets on the ends of the side panels, and make several holes for the dowels in the wall. After that, screw in the screws so that they protrude by 5 mm. And now your shelf is ready.

You can make acoustic shelves in the same way, but you need to take into account the dimensions of the equipment itself. Measurements should be taken carefully, because if you make a mistake, the work will have to start over.

For a child, as well as for any adult, the room has the meaning of personal space, where he feels like a little master. Accordingly, this tiny world must fulfill the individual needs of the baby. In the understanding of adults, there should be light, clean and spacious. For the baby, the most important thing is the atmosphere of the room, where he is comfortable, first of all, with his favorite things. And for each of them there should be a place. An option for storing toys, in addition to ordinary boxes, is a rack. Making it with your own hands means the ability to provide all the preferences of the child.

Accordingly, this tiny world must fulfill the individual needs of the baby.

Furniture made in a factory is devoid of individuality due to mass production. Production is on stream. Hand-made creation of items for storing toys has a number of advantages:

  • ability to satisfy the most demanding requests;
  • combination with the general interior of the room;
  • originality of performance;
  • confidence in the quality of the materials used;
  • convenience and functionality.

Making it with your own hands means the ability to provide all the preferences of the child.

Design and construction of the toy rack

It is hard to imagine a children's room without shelving. From birth, he is able to perform the function of storing personal hygiene items. As the baby grows, they begin to use it for its intended purpose. Toys, books, constructors appear on it.

For the baby, the most important thing is the atmosphere of the room, where he is comfortable, first of all, with his favorite things.

The design and construction of the toy storage rack should be chosen based on personal needs, as well as the following requirements:

  • stability - the structure must have good support;
  • safety - the absence of sharp corners and protruding parts will minimize the risk of injury.

The easiest option for making children's furniture for storing toys is from fabric stretched over a frame, or thick cardboard.

Depending on the age of the child, the toy storage system can be classified as follows.

  1. Up to 1 year - as a rule, at this age the baby has a minimum set of toys that can fit in one box or section with several shelves.
  2. From one year to 6 years is the most mobile and inquisitive age, which is why the functionality of the children's room and the storage system for children's toys increases. There are a lot of items to play with and more space is needed to keep them organized. In this case, an integrated approach to the issue is necessary: the creation of several boxes for storing toys that are interconnected.
  3. From 6 to 10 years old is a transitional age for games. Some children continue to actively play with toys, others devote more and more time to studying and reading books. Accordingly, the role of furniture is changing. It can be a separate box or box for storing toys, or shelves that combine several tasks.
  4. After 10 years - usually there are a few favorite toys that do not take up much space. Functionality is directed to the placement of school supplies. It is most convenient to store them in a hanging cabinet, with open or closed shelves.

Depending on the type of rack, the materials and tools used in the manufacture will differ.

Depending on the gender of the children, the design of the children's toy rack will also differ. For boys, it is preferable to choose more restrained tones in the design, and minimize decorations. Furniture for girls should be more romantic, in bright colors, with a variety of decorations. However, the subject of storing toys should organically fit into the overall interior of the room.

From the presence of skills and abilities, it is possible to create an object from wood or rods, chipboard, plastic.

It is optimal to place niches along the free wall, which can gradually increase in number.

Among the whole variety of types of furniture, with certain functions, single boxes, drawers, groups of boxes, ottomans, hanging shelves for storing children's toys and much more are distinguished for the children's room. It is optimal to place niches along the free wall, which can gradually increase in number.

For convenience, the toy rack is equipped with wheels and lids.

Necessary materials

Depending on the type of rack, the materials and tools used in the manufacture will differ. Everything depends only on imagination. The easiest option for making children's furniture for storing toys is from fabric stretched over a frame, or thick cardboard. Such a task will be feasible even for the mother of the baby. The choice of the fabric itself should be based on the ability to strength and wear resistance, i.e. have a tight weave. These types include poplin, calico, satin, denim, as well as artificial leather and fur. From the presence of skills and abilities, it is possible to create an object from wood or rods, chipboard, plastic. For convenience, the toy rack is equipped with wheels and lids.

Do-it-yourself shelving for a children's room can initially be made in such a way that, in the process of growing up a child, it will grow with him.

In addition to the basic materials you will need:

  • glue - stationery, PVA, for gluing parts made of wood and plastic;
  • colored paper and cardboard - for decorating the product;
  • frame wire - for the manufacture of items from fabric;
  • plywood - for the back walls.

Having decided on the type, design and construction of the toy storage rack, you need to sketch it.

Step by step manufacturing

Having decided on the type, design and construction of the toy storage rack, you need to sketch it. Possession of great artistic abilities in this case is not required. It can be just a sketch, on which the dimensions and general dimensions will be marked. From these data, the required amount of materials is calculated.

For an item consisting of three vertical shelves, you will need 1.3 m of fabric with a width of 1.5.

The manufacture of a fabric variation does not provide for the construction of special patterns and patterns, as a rule, markings, taking into account future sizes, are applied directly to the fabric.

Furniture for girls should be more romantic, in bright colors, with a variety of decorations.

For an item consisting of three vertical shelves, you will need 1.3 m of fabric with a width of 1.5. From the specified quantity, cut out and cut, taking into account allowances for seams of 1.5-2 cm, elements of the following sizes:

  • shelves - 4 pieces measuring 30 * 60 cm;
  • side parts - 6 pieces 30 * 30 cm in size;
  • cardboard inserts - 4 pieces 28 * 28 cm in size;
  • braid - 1 m.

The details of the shelves are folded in half and stitched with a pocket, like a pillowcase.

The details of the shelves are folded in half and stitched with a pocket, like a pillowcase. Then they are connected to each other by the side parts. Cardboard is inserted into the pockets for the strength of the bases. A braid is sewn on top of the finished structure and tied for hanging in the right place.

For boys, it is preferable to choose more restrained tones in the design, and minimize decorations.

This type of rack is convenient because it is completely mobile, and the soft side walls, devoid of frame support, allow you to fold it like an accordion. The shelf will ideally fit in the closet if its purpose is to store children's supplies. Equipping the design with side pockets, there will be additional storage space. This type will serve as a good alternative to a regular box.

A braid is sewn on top of the finished structure and tied for hanging in the right place.

This type of rack is convenient because it is completely mobile, and the soft side walls, devoid of frame support, allow you to fold it like an accordion.

The manufacture of the frame begins with the walls: side, top and bottom. They are cut out of chipboard with a thickness of approximately 16 mm, according to the dimensions. Ordinary plywood is also perfect for the back wall.

Depending on the gender of the children, the design of the children's toy rack will also differ.

The next step is to make shelves with dividers. On the finished parts, folds are cut out and grooves are made in the right places. The joints are glued with special wood glue and dried well. For reliability of a design, from within elements are pulled together by a metal corner. The boards must be provided with a good corner joint, which can be equipped with additional spikes and eyelets. Sampling is performed with a chisel or chisel.

Making a wood plank or chipboard version will require more significant skills such as locksmithing.

Now you need to connect the shelves and vertical piers with nails and additionally glue. Intermediate shelves are interconnected with wooden studs. To do this, it is necessary to make a through hole in the frame board, and drill nests two-thirds of the size of the stud in the shelves. They are glued on. The back wall of plywood is nailed.

The design and construction of the toy storage rack must be chosen based on personal needs.

To equip the design with boxes, it is important to accurately determine their dimensions. Installation takes place on special furniture rollers.

According to psychologists, from early childhood, the child must be taught to order.

Finally, the finished structure is processed with sandpaper, the existing holes are puttied, and excess glue is removed.

And the evening collection of toys can be turned into a kind of ritual.

The wooden model has a rather heavy weight, and therefore, in order to prevent falling and injury, it must be attached to the wall with a metal corner. Thus, stability will be ensured.

As the baby grows, they begin to use it for its intended purpose.

decoration

Depending on who the children's toy storage rack is intended for - a boy or a girl, as well as the interior of the room, its decor is also performed. But, despite all the strict rules, he should give the baby a feeling of joy and comfort. Any option can be beaten with such decorative elements as butterflies, flowers, bows, cars or fairy-tale characters. They can be made of fabric or special paper, and glued to the finished product. It can also be a ready-made decor item purchased at a store.

  • The finished wooden product, after finishing work, can be painted in the desired color, varnished with the desired shade.
  • Drawer fronts can be made immediately using colored laminated chipboard.
  • As a decoration, the installation of a melamine edge is well suited. To do this, it must be applied to the end parts and ironed with a hot iron. After it is sufficiently well fixed, the remnants are removed with a knife. Another type of design is the installation of a baguette. So the rack will look more neat and interesting.
  • An interesting option would be to offer the kid himself to decorate his children's rack.

It is hard to imagine a children's room without shelving.

According to psychologists, from early childhood, the child must be taught to order. And this, in turn, is the personal belongings and toys of the baby, laid out and placed in their places, forming a single storage system. The presence of a separate place will be useful even if a small family member does not have his own children's room. And the evening collection of toys can be turned into a kind of ritual.

VIDEO: Rack for toys

We often face such a problem as lack of space for things in the closet. That is why the necessary little things and other wardrobe items are located throughout the apartment where there is free space. It's not very ergonomic. How to be in this situation, is it possible to correct the situation? The answer is unequivocal - yes! We will tell you how to rationally use the space, and one little secret will help in this - do-it-yourself fabric shelves. In this way, you can also sew a very convenient closet for storing clothes and even shoes. This irreplaceable thing is a great tool not only for parents, but also for their kids, who love to scatter their favorite toys so much.

Advantages of suspended structures

Hanging shelves are often referred to as storage pockets. Outwardly, they are very similar to pockets of different shapes and sizes, completed in a single design. On the Internet, you can find a lot of interesting ideas for creating such a home assistant for storing a wide variety of items - from clothes to needlework materials. This idea came to us from Europe 30 years ago. Since then, suspended structures have become so popular.

Naturally, because they have the most necessary advantages in everyday life:

  • Their location can be completely different - bathroom, children's room, hallway, balcony, kitchen.
  • Despite their small size, shelves-pockets can accommodate a large number of things and other accessories.
  • Suspended structures do not occupy the free space of the room. Most often they are placed along the door, wall or inside the cabinet.
  • The design allows you to wash hanging shelves and cabinets in the washing machine when you need it.

Factory suspended structures have one significant drawback - a high price. They cost almost as much as a set of plastic furniture. That is why sewing fabric shelves with your own hands is much more profitable. It only takes a little sewing skills and the same amount of patience.

Important! You can make such a product not only from new fabric. You can use, for example, old jeans, decorative braid, buttons, unnecessary soft toys, and so on.

How to sew a hanging shelf from fabric?

Such a shelf is very convenient to use for storing overall items - clothes, bed linen, baby diapers. It can easily be placed in a wardrobe, hung on a crossbar with other things on a coat hanger.

Important! If desired, each compartment of the rack can be made in a different color scheme. And complement the outer side parts with very compact side pockets. So you free up a large amount of space in a closet that has been overcrowded for a long time.

materials

So what do we need to prepare:

  • 3 meters of fabric (it is better to take dense material).
  • Fiberboard for creating shelves.
  • Narrow bodice or lace for ties (can be sewn from fabric).
  • Threads.
  • Needle.
  • Sharp scissors.
  • Ripper.
  • Tailor pins.
  • A piece of chalk or remnant.
  • Iron.

We recommend that you take a sufficiently strong material for the base, which could withstand the possible load and not break. Depending on what things and objects you plan to store in this design, use three-layer cardboard or plywood as shelves. Such hanging shelves made of fabric are sewn by hand without first making a pattern. Therefore, all measurements are applied directly to the material, that is, you do not need paper.

Important! If you're planning to hang a fabric shelf in your bathroom, opt for a water-repellent fabric. Both raincoat and jacket materials will suit you well. It is advisable to use such material for storing things for a baby who often spills liquid from a bottle, and not only.

Pattern

In order to assemble the shelf, we need to prepare the following details:

  • 1 main piece measuring 1160 x 1350 cm.
  • One detail for the upper and lower tier - 1040 by 330 cm.
  • 6 parts for shelves - 520 by 310 cm.
  • Fixing putty - 280 by 320 cm.

Important! The pattern is given taking into account all allowances. From above and below the central part of the structure, we took 2 cm increments, and on the side sections - 1 cm each.

Sewing technique:

  1. Lay the fabric face down on a flat surface. We draw details on it with chalk, starting work with the main one. As a result, we get 2 rectangular parts of the side walls of the rack, one part of the back wall and 8 parts for the shelves.
  2. We measure the location of the shelves on the main long segment, and then we draw and cut out all the other details in size.
  3. We turn and stitch the front vertical edges of the part on the wrong side to a width of 10 cm, laying a line to the very edge of the fabric. We process in this way one horizontal side of each part of the shelf.
  4. We return to the main detail. We tuck the horizontal sections (the width of the outer hem is 15 mm, the inner hem is 5 mm) and trimmed. We fold the main part alternately with the front side outward along the marked lines for sewing on the shelves, and then iron it. We put inside the horizontal cut of each shelf and sew on the front side of the largest part. The stitch should pass 5 mm from the fabric fold. It must be started and finished, not reaching 1 cm to the walls of the rack.
  5. Following the previous steps, we sew the details of the shelves to the sides of the largest piece of fabric, finishing sewing at the border of the horizontal seam.
  6. Fold the loop in half with the right side inside the fabric. We grind the sections, leaving a small hole for future eversion. We turn the part on the front side, iron and sew up the not completely closed seam by hand. Attach the loop to the edge. Sew loops on one end of the buttonhole.
  7. We turn away the short sections of the components of the top and bottom to the wrong side, iron, stitch the edge. We fold the parts in half with the outer side inward so that we get a fold along one short side. We grind the sidewalls, laying a line at a distance of 8-10 mm from the cut. We cut the seam allowances to a width of 5 mm. We turn the part inside out, straighten the corners and iron the edges.
  8. Now let's start assembling the whole structure. We arrange the upper and lower parts so that the fold goes to the front of the rack.
  9. We fold the upper cut of the lid and the bottom with the back wall of the main part with the right sides towards each other. We lay a line, iron the allowance for the bottom and the cover of the rack. We tuck and stitch the bottom of the bottom and top.
  10. We pick up one side and the main side of the rack and sweep them together. We tuck the free sections of the bottom and lid, then adjust them, capturing the allowance of the main part and the top layer of material. This is how we formed pockets for duplicate shelving elements.
  11. We sew a patch to the cover, sewing the buttons on the same level with the loops. We also processed and stitched the side pockets, but this is optional.
  12. Now we are working with plywood. We process the blanks with sandpaper, rounding sharp corners. We put duplicate elements in the lower and upper tiers of the rack. We hang the shelf on the bracket. We throw a stalemate through it, and after that we fasten it with buttons.
  13. We decorate the shelf with braid, lace and beads, again, at will.

Important! If you want to make all the shelves rigid, then put the same rigid plywood in them as in the top and bottom of the fabric cabinet.

DIY textile wardrobe from plastic bottles

This is another option to sew fabric shelves with your own hands. Sometimes when we buy an expensive plastic wardrobe, we may find that our belongings or shoes do not fit in there, and in order to do this, we have to deform our personal belongings. But why make such sacrifices when there is another way out of the situation - shelves of large plastic bottles. These shelves are very easy to use. Their depth allows you to store many things and other items. Let's get acquainted with a step-by-step master class on making shelves from fabric and plastic bottles.

For work we need:

  1. Fabric in two colors measuring 1m x 60cm.
  2. Plastic 5 liter flasks.
  3. Threads to match the tone of the fabric or contrast.
  4. Centimeter.
  5. Scissors.
  6. Double sided tape.

Important! Don't be discouraged if you don't have double sided tape. It can be quickly made from the usual. How? We will tell you about this in a step-by-step instruction:

  • We stick a strip of ordinary tape on the edge of the table. The main rule is that the surface of the table must be dry and clean. The adhesive tape should go on the table no more than 1 cm along the entire length of the sticky side. We leave the steel part of the adhesive tape hanging freely in the air.
  • We take the free non-glued edge of the tape and sticky side out, wrap it, gluing the free edge to the edge that we glued to the table.
  • Carefully remove the resulting twist and cut it into parts of the length we need.

Homemade double-sided tape is ready! Holds perfectly and is almost invisible when connecting plastic bottles and more.

We sew shelves from fabric

Now consider a master class on creating a fabric cabinet:

  • We started by taking three 5-liter bottles and cutting off their upper part, which goes to narrow. You need to trim diagonally so that when connected, we get one angle of inclination.
  • Using double-sided tape, we glue the plastic bottles together as tightly as possible, observing the same cut line.
  • We begin to sew a contour cover for our shelves, which will decorate our homemade design. The cover will consist of an outer and inner side, since we took transparent plastic bottles.

Important! If you find colored flasks of this size, then the inside is optional.

  • We cut out the outer and inner parts in the same way: one middle part and two side ones. The width of the central part is equal to the width of the bottom of the plastic shelves, and the length is the distance from the edge of the topmost shelf to the bottom of the bottommost one.
  • The sidewall pattern is very simple. We impose the connected plastic shelves on the fabric and circle their contour. It turned out a rectangular parallelepiped, which will become our sidewalls.

Important! Don't forget to add a few inches of seam allowance.

  • We connect the details of the top and the details of the lining. We iron the seams. We put the lining inside the outer part of the cover and, using an iron, prepare them for the connecting seam. Try to iron the hem so that the top of the hem protrudes 0.5 cm beyond the inner hem. So we will create a piping around the entire perimeter of our case.
  • We really hope that our article helped you sew a textile wardrobe with your own hands. The best lessons on creating such a wonderful design were presented to your attention. May peace, order and harmony always reign in your home!

Very simple! Such furniture is assembled in an evening even by those who have never held a hammer in their hands. A few hours of work, and your home will have a stylish closet from the cover of a fashion design magazine.

You can strictly follow our instructions, or you can choose your own sizes, add more shelves, hooks, and even hang cabinet doors on hinges. True, it will be a completely different model!

In order to make a wardrobe with your own hands, you will need.

Order cutting plywood 2 cm thick:

  • 50 cm x 180 cm - for side walls - 2 parts;
  • 50 cm x 90 cm - for the shelf, top and bottom - 3 parts;
  • 30 cm x 180 cm - for the back wall - 1 piece;

  • copper or chrome pipe;
  • wood screws;
  • round mirror with a diameter of 20 cm (optional);
  • pipe cutter (or ask to cut the pipe right away in the store);
  • electric drill and drills;
  • grinder or sandpaper;
  • screwdriver;
  • construction roulette;
  • ruler.

We make a wardrobe with our own hands

As usual, we recommend not to bother with self-cutting parts, but simply buy a sheet of plywood 2 cm thick in a building supermarket and immediately ask him to cut it to the dimensions we need. The only thing worth doing when you bring the cut parts home is to sand them well with sandpaper or a grinder if you have one.

Once!

On the side parts from the bottom edge, measure 2.5 cm up and draw a horizontal line - this will be the bottom part, the bottom of the cabinet. Measure another 50 cm up and draw another horizontal line - there will be a cabinet shelf. In principle, you can choose the height of the shelf.

On the same side parts, measure 12 cm from the top edge and draw the third line - at this level there will be a crossbar for the coat hanger. Find the center of the line and mark it with a cross - here you need to drill a hole into which the pipe will fit tightly.

Check again if you have correctly duplicated all the marks on both side parts: there should be no gaps!

We drill a hole for the pipe in one side part, put the second one under it, circle it with a pencil, drill in the second.

Two!

We collect the entire cabinet. First, we attach the upper, middle and lower shelves to one side part. After making sure that everything is in place, attach the second side part, and at the end the back.

It is better to drill thin holes first, and then put everything on self-tapping screws. And do not drive the screws all the way until you are sure that everything is in its place.

Three!

Insert the pipe into the holes, cut it to the correct level, considering whether you want to use it as an external hook as well. You can glue the mirror on the back or, for example, on the side wall. If desired, you can make additional hooks outside or inside the cabinet, for example, for belts and scarves.

    To get a perfectly smooth wooden surface without discoloration - exactly as in the photo - you can use Wood Oil. Apply oil to the surface so that it is a little more than necessary, wait 15-20 minutes, wipe off the excess. If using oil with wax, remember to pre-prime the surface with a so-called Food Contact Oil.

    If you want to turn an inexpensive light wood into a noble "rosewood" or "ebony" - use Belinka Interier water-based azure in the desired shade. Apply the azure with a brush, wait 3-4 hours, apply the second layer.

    If you decide to give your cabinetry a bright overlay color, use wood paint. You can immediately paint both wooden and metal parts with the same paint using Belinka Universal enamel.

Ready!
