In addition, you will need hammers, a level with a plumb line and a hacksaw. You need to buy screwdrivers and pliers.

For example, if the opening is larger, you can narrow it down a little by stuffing a plank of the required width over the entire area. If the difference is large enough, you can resort to brickwork, that is, lay the extra space with bricks.

You can use another option: make a metal frame, followed by plasterboard wall cladding. If we talk about the ideal option, you must first make the necessary measurements, and then purchase the door and install it. This will avoid many of these problems.

How to install hinges?

The main thing is to decide on the operation of the door: where it will open. Before starting work, you will need to purchase the loops themselves and all the necessary tools. The side of the web for inserting loops should be chosen the one that is more massive and does not have any cracks and defects. Features of the insert depend on the type of loops. Installation of interior doors of a standard type is most often carried out on two hinges.

As a rule, they are quite enough. If we are talking about input structures, three loops can be installed here for greater reliability. You can determine the place where you want to install the hinges as follows: measure 20 cm from the bottom and top and mark up. In order to get the ideal depth, you need to cut the tree gradually, applying a loop periodically. The final stage is fitting loops and marking places for screwing screws. Next, holes are drilled. The hinges are fixed with screws.

How to mount the frame in the opening?

The block is mounted using self-tapping screws. It would, of course, be possible to fasten with anchors, but this is not advisable. Most often, in order to qualitatively fix the structure, 3 fasteners are enough. When assembling an MDF box with your own hands, the fastening elements must be masked with a hinge striker, as well as a lock. Next comes the installation in the opening itself. The rack is also fastened with self-tapping screws.

The next step is hanging the canvas itself, which needs to be well strengthened. When fixing the door leaf in a vertical way, it becomes fixed. After that, the lock rack is attached. On the canvas, you need to display the same gap between the crossbar and the uprights. It should not be more than 3 mm, otherwise the aesthetics of the door will be compromised.

If, on the contrary, it is made smaller than the indicated size, then over time, due to changes in humidity and wear of the hinges, it is likely that difficulties may arise with closing and opening. In buildings with brick walls, before installing the racks, you need to prepare mortgages for self-tapping screws. On each side, 4 spacers made of wood are mounted.

The gap formed during the work is removed with ordinary mounting foam, but you should be very careful not to stain the coating of the door itself with it. The foam hardens, as a rule, for 3 hours, however, the end of the process occurs in a day, when it becomes approximately 3 times larger in volume. • Between the inside of the box and the door leaf along the entire perimeter there must be a technological gap, 3 mm wide.
• The gap between the wall and the top of the box must be at least 20 mm.
• The gap between the side planks and the wall is 10 mm from each side. When installing on mounting foam, it is necessary to increase the gap to at least 20 mm.
• The gap between the lower part of the sash and the box or floor depends on the material and the installation location of the structure. For dry rooms, these parameters can vary within 5-15 mm, for wet rooms, in order to ensure ventilation, - 50 mm.

Options for connecting structural elements

The main difficulty in assembling door frames is the process of connecting individual elements. Docking horizontal and vertical strips of the product can be done in two ways:

1. By means of washed down at an angle of 45 degrees. This process is best done with a miter saw, but in its absence, a miter box will do.
2. At a right angle of 90 degrees. To cut the workpiece, you will need a saw with fine teeth.

How to properly install a door frame?

• Make markings for attachment points. Holes are drilled on the bars and walls along it. Many experts attach the door frame to the wall in places where the hinges and the striker of the lock are located. This allows not to violate the integrity and appearance of the product.

• The door frame is fastened with anchor bolts, which are inserted into the holes and tightened with a screwdriver or wrench (depending on the type of fastener). The structure must be fixed very carefully.

• The gap between the block and the wall is filled with mounting foam.

What else is important to know?

Not every person will succeed the first time to qualitatively install the door frame. But do not despair. Because many flaws can be eliminated.

1. If there is an ugly seam, you can close the joint between the laminate and the door frame with a plinth or a special flexible threshold.
2. If the box does not fit into the opening, then the racks and cross bars can be cut a little.
3. Platbands allow you to beautifully close the gap between the door frame and the wall. If their width is not enough, you will have to plaster and decorate the gap.

5. Fastening a door frame to a wooden wall is much easier than to other materials. In this case, a puncher for drilling holes is not useful. You just need to screw the door frame to the wall with the help of anchors. The main thing to consider is that over time, wooden buildings can shrink a lot.

An interior door consists of a door leaf, hinges, a mortise lock or latch, and a door frame. As a rule, a door frame, for doors of the middle price class, is supplied in the form of a do-it-yourself “constructor”, that is, unassembled. The box consists of three profiled wooden beams covered with veneer or film to match the color of the door leaf. The length of the vertical beams is 2100-2200 mm; the length of the horizontal beam is 1000-1100 mm. Door frames differ from each manufacturer in their readiness for installation.

For some manufacturers, door frames are already sawn and cut at an angle of 45 °, just the size of the door leaf and fully prepared for assembly. But most of the boxes are delivered unprepared. They need to be prepared.

• Take two future vertical bars of the box. With a canvas size of 2000 mm and a finishing floor covering of 30 mm, the length of the short side of the timber should be -2000 + 30 + the gap between the canvas and the finished floor: 10-15 mm = 2040-2045 mm.
• Make a mark on the inside of the Box Bars for the desired length of the canvas.
• Cut off the excess at an angle. The sawing angle of the timber should be 135° on the inside or -45° on the outside. The length of both vertical Beams of the box must be the same.
• Do the same procedure with a horizontal short beam. The only difference is that you will have to saw off from two sides. Be careful with sizes. The main thing in all carpentry work: Measure seven times, cut once.

When marking, do not forget that the gap between the canvas and the box itself should be 3 mm.

Place the prepared box pieces on the floor. Connect the corner joints of the box with self-tapping screws, two self-tapping screws in each corner. In door frames sawn at 90 °, the screws are screwed in at a right angle (photo above left). In door frames sawn at 45°, the screws are screwed in at an angle of 45° (photo above right). The box is almost complete.

In order to keep the vertical posts parallel and match the distance between them according to the size of the door leaf, place the door leaf on the “almost assembled” frame, as it will stand in the opening. Fix the gap between the canvas and the box by inserting identical pieces of hardboard or wedges into the gap.

Method 1. Fix the door frame with not thick rails. Nail the slats perpendicular to the uprights, with thin nails at the very edge of the vertical uprights. There should be two rails: in the middle and at the bottom.

It is necessary to maintain a gap in the lower part of the door between the leaf and the floor, which must be at least 5 mm. It is necessary to take into account the further size of the assembled box if a threshold device is planned.

Box assembly

Before assembling the box, it is necessary to lay out the elements on the floor or other horizontal surface. In order not to scratch the bars, it is necessary to lay paper, cardboard, etc. under them.

There are several types of connections for box bars. Expensive door models come with ready-made grooves, which only allows them to be connected. Self-cutting can be at 45 or 90 degree angles. In the first case, a miter box or an electric miter saw is used. A 90 degree connection is the easiest way. On the upper bar, the protruding part is cut to the size of the vertical bars, after which they are closely connected. It doesn't matter how the connection is made, the main thing is that a right angle of 90 degrees is obtained between the vertical and horizontal parts.

After fitting, the parts can be connected. Self-tapping screws are ideal. A hole is pre-drilled, and then the self-tapping screw is screwed in. Two self-tapping screws are needed on each side, which will ensure the immobility of the connecting parts during the installation of the box. Drilling holes will prevent the wood from cracking. It is necessary that at the junction of the parts the outer and inner parts of the bars are flush. Any deviation will become an error in the assembly of the door structure.

In some cases, the question arises of how to properly assemble a door frame with a threshold. For this, a bar is used from below the structure, which can be fixed in the same way as the upper cross member. The main thing is to take into account the dimensions of the door leaf and withstand technological gaps.

Door hinge fixing

Assembling the interior door frame involves attaching hinges, so you must first make an adjustment. To do this, the frame is laid on the floor and leveled. On vertical bars, 20 cm are marked at the top and bottom. Loops are attached at this distance. Installation in the opening

If the difference is relatively small, then a bar of the appropriate thickness can be filled across the entire width of the opening. If the size discrepancy is significant, then the opening is laid with bricks, or part of the wall is sheathed with drywall. But in any case, in order to avoid unnecessary expenses and efforts, dismantle the old door in advance, measure the size of the opening, and buy a new door in accordance with them.

There are several options for assembling the box, but the most popular of them are two - with fastening the bars at an angle of 45 and 90 degrees. For each of them, different measurements are taken.

Advice. In some cases, when arranging the interior, use will be justified - where there is not enough space for classic drop-down doors.

We fix the bars at an angle of 45 degrees

The length of the vertical bars in this case is the sum of the height of the opening for the door, the thickness of the upper lintel, the threshold (if any) and the dimensions of the required gaps above and below. The latter are usually taken at 3 mm. Naturally, both vertical beams should be equal in length.

The lengths of the lintel and threshold are calculated by adding the width of the door itself, the thickness of each vertical beam and the same gaps. Remember that in order to fasten the elements of the door frame at an angle of 45 degrees, you need to thoroughly calculate the dimensions, make the necessary markings, and then cut the timber.

The connection is fixed with a pair of screws in pre-drilled holes. The screws are screwed into the bars at an angle of 45 degrees, and if drilling is not done in advance, the wooden profile may simply crack.

We fasten the bars at an angle of 90 degrees

In this case, the horizontal profile of the door frame will lie on the vertical one. Accordingly, the dimensions of the vertical bars will be determined as the height of the door itself plus a pair of gaps of 3 mm each at the top and bottom.

This is for the option with a threshold. If the latter is not present, then instead of 3 mm of the lower gap, you will need to add a whole centimeter, i.e. 10 mm, so that the door does not cling to the floor covering.

The width of the threshold and the upper lintel will be calculated as the sum of the width of the door leaf, double the thickness of the vertical beam and a pair of 3 mm gaps. In addition, so that the protruding part of the profile, on which the door rests when closing, does not interfere with connecting the bars to each other, it will be necessary to make landing selections.

That is, the vestibule - the protruding part along the edges of the horizontal bars, will simply need to be cut to the width of the vertical profile. This will require a minimum of tools:

• hacksaw,
• carpenter's hammer,
• chisel.

Accordingly, with a hacksaw, you will need to carefully make a cut to the width of the protruding part of the profile, and then with a chisel with a hammer, simply chip off an unnecessary piece of the profile and clean the surface. This is also a fairly simple, albeit crucial step in installing the door frame:

1. Decide how the door will open (inward or outward) in order to choose the side on which you will need to hang the hinges;
2. Place the door leaf and frame on a flat surface;



3. Measure 20 cm from the upper and lower edges of the door leaf and mark for installing hinges;
4. Attach the hinges to the end of the door leaf at the mark, circle them along the contour, and then carefully draw along these lines with a sharp knife;



5. Further, in this place, using a chisel, you will need to make a recess with a depth corresponding to the thickness of the loop so that the latter does not go beyond the structure;
6. Mark the place in the recess made for the screws, drill the corresponding holes and fasten the loop;
