  • What conclusion can be drawn

Does such a medicinal plant as motherwort increase or decrease blood pressure? What additional properties does it have? These and other questions should be analyzed in more detail. Motherwort is a well-known plant growing in Asian countries. The herb has many healing properties that allow you to restore pressure, get rid of heart palpitations and improve the functioning of many internal organs. Despite the many medicinal properties, the healing effect does not occur immediately. Therefore, the duration of treatment with herbal medicines is long.

According to medical research, motherwort is recognized as a plant that normalizes the functioning of the heart and has a positive effect on the nervous system. These properties of motherwort are familiar to many people. But not everyone knows what effect motherwort has on blood pressure.

Symptoms of high and low blood pressure

High blood pressure is considered a chronic disease called hypertension. In the initial stage of development, the disease does not manifest itself in any way. However, the momentary upward pressure surge causes the person to feel it too strongly. The main symptoms of an increase include:

  • pressing headache radiating to the temples and the occipital part;
  • pulsation and the presence of a hum in the ears;
  • inaccurate and uncertain movements;
  • aching pain in the chest.

With a frequent increase in blood pressure, there is an excessive load on the activity of organs. In most cases, hypertensive patients affect the retina, kidneys and brain. The heart muscle expands under heavy load, whereby only the surface layers of the organ are saturated with oxygen. This situation can provoke rapid wear of the heart and premature death.

This can be avoided only with full observance of all medical recommendations.

With hypotension, a person feels weakness, drowsiness, and in rare cases, a nagging headache. Hypotonic suffers from weather changes, as it has a high weather sensitivity. At the same time, hypotension is characterized by rapid fatigue, reduced performance. With a sharp decrease in pressure in a person, it darkens in the eyes, nausea appears, and cold sweat appears on the skin. In such a situation, the patient may lose consciousness.

Low blood pressure can not lead to serious complications, but systematic hypotension significantly reduces the quality of human life. To restore blood pressure, experts recommend giving up bad habits, observing a daily routine, exercising and eating right.

Review #1

I often take motherwort (pharmacy tincture) when the pressure starts to jump. By the end of the day, you usually feel better. It soothes very quickly - I drip about 30 drops of tincture into half a glass of water, drink the remedy and lie down on the sofa.

An hour later, I feel better. Motherwort really lowers blood pressure, acting more gently than strong medicines.

Review #2

Lately, the pressure has been on the rise. In order not to take potent medications to stabilize blood pressure, I drink the usual decoction of motherwort. I cook at home, pour a tablespoon of boiling water - I take half a liter.

Literally after an hour of taking such tea from motherwort, the pressure drops. A good medicinal herb that lowers blood pressure in a safe way - slowly, not abruptly, like pills. My grandmother also drank motherwort at high blood pressure. I can also recommend an excellent remedy for pressure - Recardio.

The name of this herb accurately characterizes her addictions - she likes to grow on wastelands and abandoned lands. However, it would be unfair to attribute it to weeds. Indeed, since the 15th century, it has been successfully used both in folk and in official medicine.

Doctor Fito Motherwort can easily compete with valerian. Thanks to his ability to protect the heart, he earned the respect of cardiologists and therapists. The papaverine contained in motherwort relieves spasms, has a calming effect on the central nervous system; rutin normalizes and maintains the structure, elasticity and permeability of blood vessels, prevents their sclerotic lesions; quercetin has an antitumor effect, and also slows down the aging process of the body and, first of all, skin cells, cornea and heart muscle.

In Russia, and in other European countries, 2 subspecies of motherworts are used for medical purposes - Motherwort heart and Motherwort shaggy (five-lobed). The birthplace of the motherwort, after all, is Asia, and it arrived in Europe from China along the Great Silk Road. But in Europe, it took root a very long time ago and became its own, primarily due to its healing properties. In Latin, the name of motherwort sounds like Leonurus cardiaca. The literal translation of the word Leonurus means the tail of a lion. And this is not accidental - a long stem ends with a bunch of leaves, resembling a brush on the tip of a lion's bare tail. Europe immediately appreciated this plant, it was planted next to any settlement, therefore, being unpretentious, it expanded its habitat throughout Eurasia

Motherwort - appearance and features

The Russian name of this plant speaks of its favorite place of growth - wastelands. And this means that motherwort loves the sun, such plants are called geleophytes. And our hero is his bright representative. Motherwort is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Lamiaceae family, this is evidenced by its structure:

  • Long tetrahedral stem, slightly pubescent.
  • Flowers of five petals, fused in such a way that they resemble half-open lips. Color from pale pink to bright lilac. The flowers form spike-shaped corollas located in the axils of the upper leaves.
  • The leaves are petiolate, oval-pointed at the end, dark green below and gray-green above.
  • The root of the plant is taproot and therefore motherwort is a tall grass, reaching up to 2 meters in height. And on average, the growth of motherwort ranges from 30 to 200 cm.

Motherwort blooms from mid-June to the very end of summer. And you can collect it twice during the summer - in June and August.

There are 25 types of motherwort, but only 2 of them are considered medicinal and are used for medicinal purposes - five-lobed motherwort and heart motherwort. Both of these species are very similar to each other, only a botanist or a knowledgeable herbalist can tell them apart.

What is useful motherwort

Ancient Tibetan monks wrote about the benefits of this herb, and the Chinese, quietly obsessed with longevity, sang praises to this herb in their ancient treatises on health a couple of millennia ago. More pragmatic descendants of these ancient Chinese scrupulously examined this plant, and came to the following conclusions:

  • Grass tones the heart muscle, so that the heart beats evenly and smoothly. Arrhythmia, tachycardia, bradycardia disappear. Anyone who has encountered this problem knows what happiness it is not to experience problems with the functioning of the heart muscle.
  • Like all plants that have the status of medicinal and belonging to the Lamiaceae family, motherwort tones smooth muscles. Due to this, it is used to treat dysmenorrhea (irregular and meager periods), with atony of the intestinal muscles (persistent constipation), to stimulate the kidneys, as a diuretic.
  • The extract of this plant helps to change the rheological state of the blood, thereby preventing the formation of thrombosis. In addition, it reduces high blood pressure and tones the walls of blood vessels.
  • Motherwort extract has antioxidant and immunostimulating properties. This means that its regular intake helps to strengthen cell membranes, which in turn is the prevention of oncology.
  • With hyperactivity of the thyroid gland, motherwort extract helps to reduce the production of hormones, leading to an imbalance in metabolic processes. From this we can conclude that it has a positive effect on the metabolism of the body as a whole.

To sum up the evidence base for such statements, you should familiarize yourself with the composition of motherwort heart or five-lobed:

  • Flavonoids - quercetin, rutin, quinqueloside, which belong to the class of plant polyphenols. They are able to change the activity of many metabolic enzymes in the human and animal body.
  • Organic acids - coumaric, tartaric, malic, ursolic, vanillic, citric. Their main function is to maintain the acid-base balance in the human body. Oddly enough, but organic acids contribute to the alkalization of the internal environment, which has a healing effect on all body systems.
  • The alkaloids are leonurine and leopuridine. These are organic compounds, which include - carbon, hydrogen, sulfur, chromium, bromine. They have a pronounced biological activity and have a positive effect on metabolic processes in the body.
  • Motherwort extract also contains vitamins A (retinol), E (tocophorol) and C (ascorbic acid), which do not need to be introduced.

Thanks to this composition, motherwort helps the human body to overcome many ailments.

How and from what motherwort is used

The very Latin name of this plant, Leonurus cardiaca, gives a hint about its main therapeutic purpose - to level problems with the cardiovascular system:

  • Taking motherwort increases the tone of the heart muscle and slows down the heart rate.
  • Reduces high blood pressure and tones the walls of blood vessels in case of hypotension. It acts as a blood pressure stabilizer in the vessels.
  • Being an excellent sedative, it reduces the emotional stress on the heart and blood vessels.
  • By thinning the blood, it changes its rheological state, preventing the formation of blood clots.

You can take it in the form of infusions, tinctures and decoctions. For the treatment of the heart and blood vessels, it is enough to brew it like regular tea at the rate of 1 teaspoon of chopped herbs per 1 cup of boiling water. Insist for 30 minutes and take 3 times a day for 1 glass of infusion. If you are taking it for the first time, then the dose of the first dose should be halved, and carefully monitor your well-being. There may be allergic reactions, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur. Only if the first dose did not cause any side effects, you can take the 2nd dose, but also preferably in a half dose. In general, the first day of admission should be careful and listen to your body. In the future, you can go to the recommended dose.
