Siphon for a shower cabin with a deep pallet. How to choose and install a siphon for a shower cabin? Technical parameters and features of work

Elementary sanitary cleanliness requires, after taking a shower, to remove used water into the sewer. For this purpose, a drain for the shower cabin is used, which not only serves to organize the flow of liquid into the sewer, but also is an obstacle to the penetration of fetid air from the city sewer into the home atmosphere.

Requirements for drain systems for shower cabins

The removal of water from any object of water use, whether it is a sink in the kitchen, a toilet bowl or a bath, requires not only its delivery to the sewer pipe, but also its use as a water plug from the gas attack of gases from the sewer towards the dwelling. Therefore, the device for draining a shower cabin cannot categorically be likened to a simple “hole” in the bottom of the tray or in the tiled floor of the bathroom.

The drainage or drain system must perform the following functions:

  1. Collect used water to the drain funnel of a point drainage or drainage channel (gutter);
  2. Filter the waste liquid from contaminants to prevent clogging of the drain;
  3. Deliver the collected effluent through the pipe to the sewer;
  4. Create an obstacle for sewer gases to enter the dwelling.

There are two types of drainage systems:

  • Siphons, which are tubular structures that ensure the constant presence of a volume of liquid to prevent the passage of gases. Knee and bottle siphons are convenient to use, however, the scope of siphons is limited by the size of the free space under the cabin pallet.
  • Drains installed directly in the floor of the shower room or below the bottom of the tray if there is a free space from the floor to the drain hole of the tray, providing a drain height for the shower cabin within 20 cm.

It is important! The installation depth of the siphons is significantly affected by the height of the outlet of the drain from the wall, which should be at least 6 cm from the floor surface to the axis of the outlet pipe. The farther from the exit from the wall the drain funnel of the water collector is located, the greater the required height is obtained to ensure the slope of the drain.

The siphon is a classic version of the water lock, which blocks the access of stench from the sewer through the drain pipes to our apartment. The water plug created in the siphon turns out to be an insurmountable obstacle to gases.

Not a single competent connection of plumbing fixtures to sewer communications can do without a siphon. To create a permanent water lock-lock, a small amount of water is sufficient, which is retained in a special structural element.

Types of siphons

Siphons differ among themselves in some fundamental features that create a much-needed water seal in different ways.

Siphons knee

Their configuration is curved S or U-shaped pipe sections. This shape ensures the constant presence of liquid in the curved segment, thereby creating the simplest water seal.

Knee siphons can be made from smooth or corrugated pipes. Corrugated pipes are more convenient during installation due to the possibility of placing them in the right place and fixing them with clamps. The flexible corrugated pipe can be adjusted to any mutual arrangement of the drain funnel of the pallet and the sewer socket. Another advantage of the corrugated pipe knee system is that during installation, only one connection point is created between the siphon and the spillway of the pallet, which guarantees a minimum likelihood of leakage.

Disadvantages of corrugated knee siphons:

  • Low mechanical strength, they often break;
  • Sensitivity to temperatures, especially low ones;
  • Rapid contamination of corrugated folds.

Bottle siphons

Their shape resembles a bottle. The water seal is formed due to the fact that the pipe coming from the drain funnel of the pallet and the pipe for draining the waste liquid to the sewer are at different heights, which creates a water plug.

The bottle siphon is easier to install, easier to disassemble. There are no problems with the organization of drainage and how to clean the drain of a shower cabin with a bottle siphon, since it is easily disassembled and does not clog due to the smoothness of the pipe.

Varieties of ladders

The drains are “remembered” when the depth of the free space under the cabin does not allow a siphon to be placed, or the whole family decides, for the convenience of the elderly or sick family members, to organize a drain in the shower floor without using pallets or podiums. For the functioning of the ladder, it is necessary to create a slope of the outlet pipe with respect to the floor within 3 degrees. If the length of the outlet pipe is 70-120 cm, then the installation depth of the ladder will be only 8-20 cm.

Unlike siphons, which themselves are water seals, the design of the ladder contains more basic elements:

  • Directly water seal;
  • Frame;
  • Protective grille, additionally carrying a decorative function;
  • Pipeline.

Ladder water seals are made in two fundamentally different versions:

  • Traditional water seal using a water plug-lock;
  • A dry version of the shutter that operates after the liquid flow has ceased.

The creators of dry shutters insured the owners of showers and boxes in case of irregular use of the shower, which caused the water plug to dry up, opening the way for gases from the sewer. The drain valve of the new model uses special actuators such as elastic membranes, pendulum or float valves.

It is important! The designs of any models of siphons and drains must be collapsible in order to regularly clean the drains from silt deposits, hair and other blockages. Without such prevention, the drain will sooner or later become clogged with debris, water will stop flowing into the sewer, flooding everything around.

Drain connection

Before connecting the drain of the shower cabin, it is necessary to prepare the frame for the pallet. Then:

  • On the pallet turned upside down, the studs are screwed in (they should be in the cab parts kit).
  • Power elements with limiters are put on the studs.
  • A siphon and a flexible hose are attached.
  • Adjust the power frame according to the level so that the siphon is 2-3 cm lower than the frame.
  • The nuts are the final fixation of the load-bearing structure.
  • The inverted pallet is installed in the allotted place, the height of the legs is adjusted.
  • After all the manipulations performed, it is necessary to achieve the location of the lower point of the drain hole higher than the socket of the sewer pipe. The slope should be 5 degrees.
  • Insert the mesh into the drain hole.
  • Connect the siphon with a drain pipe to the sewer riser.
  • All connections are coated with silicone sealant.

Nowadays, the plumbing market has been conquered by compact and convenient shower boxes, which become an addition to the bath or completely replace it.

An important part of this equipment is the siphon for the shower tray, thanks to which wastewater is discharged and sewage gases hazardous to health are not allowed to enter the shower cabin and into the room. In order for the drain in the shower cabin to perform its functions efficiently, you should choose the right one according to the technical specifications.

Purpose and varieties

Plastic models are now widely used - they are practical, durable, compatible with PVC sewer pipes.

A variety of shower trays in height, shape, location of the drain hole determines the presence of design features in the proposed siphons. Their mandatory element is a drain, which has a different configuration and length. Sometimes an overflow is included in the kit, but more often it has to be mounted separately.

The simplest siphon for a shower tray consists of several parts:

  • grids for the drain hole;
  • sealing gasket under the grill - usually it is made of white rubber;
  • outlet outlet with a special seat for sealing;
  • gaskets for a tight connection of the drain device with the outlet pipe (at least 3-5 mm thick);
  • a connecting screw screwed into the nut of the branch pipe through the central hole of the grille;
  • the main part (drain) - this device contributes to the creation of a water seal.

The outlet outlet can be connected to the sewerage with a corrugated hose or a pipe mounted under a slope.

According to the principle of operation and the design of the drain, siphons are of two types:

  1. Pipe - its main part is made in the form of a U-shaped or S-shaped elbow, which is constantly filled with water, so that the smell from the sewer pipe does not enter the room. The tubular drain of the shower cabin is made of a rigid or plastic (corrugated) pipe.
  2. Flask (bottle). It requires more space than the previous one and is more often used for sinks. Its upper tube is connected to the drain hole of the pallet, and the branch pipe located on the side serves to drain water into the sewer. In the “bottle” part, between the outlet tube and the lower end, a water seal is created, and garbage is collected at the very bottom of the flask, which is removed by unwinding the structure.

According to the method of controlling the collection and removal of water, siphons for shower cabins are classified into three main groups:

  1. Traditional. They operate thanks to a plug plug, which, if necessary, is manually inserted into the drain hole.
  2. Automatic. The design is equipped with a special handle that allows you to close or open the hole with a drain plug without bending over for this.
  3. With "Click-Clack" device. An improved version of the machine: the position of the cork in it is regulated using a pedal.

How to choose

A rather inconspicuous device plays a decisive role in the comfortable use of the shower. Even the most attractive fixtures and capabilities of the cabin are not fun if the water does not drain well.

Before you buy a siphon for a shower cabin, you should study its technical characteristics in order to find the best option.

The following factors influence the choice:

  1. The diameter of the drain hole of the pallet. According to European standards, this parameter is set at 52, 62 or 90 mm. If the dimensions of the siphon and the tray are the same, the maximum tightness of the fit is achieved.
  2. throughput. It is usually indicated in the instruction manual for the shower cabin and in the initial data of the siphon. With a diameter of 90 mm, different models of drains provide water drainage at a rate of 30 to 50 l/min. Technical requirements regulate for each siphon diameter a certain thickness of the water layer in the pan. With sizes 52 and 62 mm, the water level should not be higher than 12 cm. 90 mm allows this parameter to be increased to 15 cm.
  3. Tray depth. If it is small, then the best option is a siphon for a shower cabin with a low tray - a conventional device without an overflow and a plug.
  4. Mounting height of the ladder (support under the cab). It depends on the difference in the levels of the drain and the sewer socket and varies from 8 to 20 cm - the siphon must also meet this parameter. The model with corrugation is universal, allowing installation in cramped conditions and adapting the drain for a shower cabin with a low tray to a low height. Having given the flexible pipe the desired bend, it is fixed with a clamp. The disadvantage of this option is the accumulation of dirt in the folds of the corrugated pipe.
  5. Ease of cleaning is an important parameter that allows you not to dismantle the cab when the drain is clogged. Some designs provide automatic cleaning, others install a mesh trap for small debris and hair.

If, nevertheless, it becomes necessary to clean the pipe, then European models with a size of 52 and 62 mm provide easy disassembly for access to the sewer.

When purchasing a siphon for a shower tray, consider the material of the connecting screw. If it is made of stainless steel, then the service life of the drain unit will be much longer. A nickel-plated or chrome-plated ordinary carbon steel screw quickly corrodes and fails, requiring replacement of the entire device.

It is very easy to distinguish stainless steel: it is not attracted to a magnet.

Arrangement of a shower cabin drain and installation of a siphon

The installation of the drain device is carried out in a certain sequence to ensure the correct functioning of the system and to guarantee a permanent flow of water.

  1. Preparatory work. The shower tray is turned upside down, the studs purchased in the kit are screwed into it. Nuts are screwed onto the threaded shanks to limit the elements of the power frame, which are then put on the studs. A siphon with a hose is inserted into the opening of the pallet.
  2. Setting the angle of inclination of the drain. Using the building level, the frame is mounted so that it rises about 2 cm above the lowest point of the siphon. It, in turn, should be about 5 degrees higher than the sewer tee (in relation to the horizontal) to ensure a guaranteed outflow of used water. The power structure is fixed with nuts, the hose is connected to the tee and the drain is checked. If the water does not drain quickly enough, the slope is increased by adjusting the screws.
  3. Final installation and connection. A mesh is placed in the drain hole, having previously smeared it with silicone sealant for a tighter fit. They put a gasket, screw the sewer tee and connect it to the outlet, be sure to put a seal at the junction. The outlet is inserted into the sewer pipe, the connection is sealed with silicone and tightly fixed with a coupling.

A useful device is the overflow prevention system. It is installed similarly to the drain siphon. It is only necessary to additionally connect the overflow hole to the tee, sealing them along the junction line.

The role of such a plumbing detail as a shower siphon should not be underestimated. When carrying out repairs, it is worth paying attention not only to the quality of plumbing, but also to the quality of the siphon.

This is a very important part of the drain, which determines how water will drain during water procedures. In addition, a good siphon is needed to avoid the spread of unpleasant odors from the sewer.

What is a siphon made of?

The standard design of the device includes the following parts:

  • upper grille with seal;
  • waste baskets with a sealant;
  • outlet for water drainage with a recess for the upper seal;
  • gaskets for the outlet pipe;
  • a screw that is screwed into the pipe nut;
  • water seal devices.

When buying, it is better to use the original equipment included in the package. This way you can protect yourself from depressurization of the sewer drain.

If there is no such device, then it is better to buy ladders from reliable companies that are made of high-quality plastic or chrome-plated metal. If possible, you should avoid low-quality Chinese plastic ladders that have a limited shelf life.

Types of siphons

A siphon for a shower cabin or consists of two parts: an overflow, if provided for by the design, and a water drain. The height of such a ladder does not exceed 20 cm. And the lowest ladder in height is an eight-centimeter device.

There are several models suitable for different types of plumbing structures.
The following types are popular:

  • bottle;
  • pipe;
  • corrugated;
  • in the box.

Most designs are used only for a certain type of sewer drain, but there are also universal options. The drain can be both high and low, and you should be guided by this indicator when buying a siphon.

Bottle type siphon

This drain is suitable for low and high showers. This is the most common standard type of device, which, among other things, is also easy to clean.

To clean, simply unscrew the lower part of the knee and pour out the entire contents. Some difficulty can only be presented by its installation, in which it is problematic to connect the outlet pipe of the siphon to the drain hole of the pan.

Pipe type siphon

Such a siphon is produced in the form of a rigid structure, resembling the letters S or U in appearance. The equipment is installed only in a high shower tray and is attached with a fairly accurate fit of parts. Care must be taken to ensure that the combination of elements with the nozzle is reliable.

Corrugated siphon type

A corrugated siphon is used in the construction of low pallets. This is the most budget version of the device, which, in addition to an affordable price, also has ease of installation.

The corrugated tube is easy to bend and easily fits into the drain holes of the pallet and sewer. Its main disadvantage is the difficulty of cleaning the corrugated tube, and premature wear at the bends.

Siphon in a box

A fairly convenient design, which is located in the wall, in a special box. It is connected to the drain hole of the sink or shower by a flexible pipe, the length of which requires adjustment.

Differences in the direction of the drain

Siphons under the shower cabin can be divided into two types in the direction of the drain holes: a straight drain pipe and with a direction to the side.

A direct fixture when installing a shower stall is used extremely rarely, except in individual designs of private houses. Whereas a branch pipe with a turn to the side is most often used when installing a shower in apartments.

It allows you to save space and is most suitable for the sewer paths of an apartment building.

Choice by functionality

The drain hole of the siphon in the shower cabin can be opened automatically or mechanically.

One of the important and convenient features is the ability to close the drain hole after water procedures or to retain water while taking a shower or bath.

The device for closing the drain hole helps to avoid getting into the bathroom.

There are three types of drain hole:

  • standard hole;
  • automatic opening;
  • click-clack hole.

More modern designs use the automatic hole type and the click-clack type. Such siphons are more expensive, and are designed for installation in shower cabins.

They are used when creating a designer renovation or renovation. Simpler standard models are used to create a budget option for a shower cabin.

The connecting parts of the ladder are flexible rubber discs. The sealing of the siphon, as well as the reliability of its fastening, depends on their quality. Therefore, when choosing discs, you should pay attention to their elasticity. They should be put on the ladder with some effort.

Standard siphon type

It is distinguished by unimpeded drainage of water, as well as the presence of a rubber plug of suitable diameter, which is mechanically installed on the siphon opening.

The advantage of these shower stall drains is that they are inexpensive, and they rarely break.

Automatic siphon type

The hole in this model is equipped with a special lever that can be moved and thereby open and close the drain. Such a device is installed in the shower, as a rule, on high pallets with an overflow hole.

Siphon type click-clack

Click-clack is a device for a shower cabin with valves. To control the closing button in a conditional hole, it is enough to press a special device that is designed to control the water flow, it can either delay it or allow it to pour out freely.

Most often, such a system is possessed by metal chrome-plated siphons with a corrosion-resistant valve.

The main criterion for choosing a siphon

When choosing a siphon, it is important to know about the function of the water seal. Models with a cavity in which some water is always present are considered the most practical.

Such a water plug prevents the penetration of sewage odors into the room and is the main barrier after the plug for the spread of unpleasant air around the apartment.

You should always be interested in the presence of a water seal, and choose this option for plumbing.

There are only three main criteria for choosing a siphon for a shower cabin with a water seal:

  • correspondence of the diameter of the drain neck to the hole in the pan;
  • strength due to its carrying capacity;
  • matching the design of the siphon to the type of shower tray.

The correct choice of a siphon in accordance with these criteria will affect the strength of the structure and its ability to pass water unhindered.

Specifications

According to existing European standards, there are three options for the diameter of the drain mouth of the pallet:

  • 52 mm;
  • 62 mm;
  • 90 mm.

Thus, when choosing a siphon for bathroom sinks and showers, it is worthwhile to measure the drain hole of the plumbing device before buying to ensure a tight fit and good tightness of the connection.

So, drain holes with a diameter of 52 and 62 mm do not provide free access to cleaning, in contrast to the design with a 90 mm hole.

Therefore, when installing a shower cabin, it is necessary to create additional access to the ladder for cleaning manipulations.

Ladder capacity

According to European standards, the water layer above siphons with a hole diameter of 52 and 62 mm should not exceed 13 cm, while a ladder with a diameter of 90 mm can withstand a water column of 16 cm high, no more.

Thus, the diameter of the siphon will depend directly on the height of the shower tray: for low tray models, as a rule, holes with a radius of 26 and 31 mm are selected, while a device with a hole radius of 45 mm can be installed in a high tray.

Influence of design on cleaning

Carefully!

The drain must never be cleaned and blown out with compressed air. This can upset the entire balance of the structure and lead to serious damage to the equipment. To clean, just remove the top part of the fixture and clean the drain.

How to clean siphons?

It is worth taking care of cleaning the knee in advance, at the stage of installation of the structure during the repair. To do this, the siphon is equipped with a special inspection hole, which will perform not only the function of overflowing water, but also the function of cleaning from dirt.

Such a hole is only needed for narrow appliances, while a nine-centimeter ladder is cleaned directly.

If the device is installed in a low height tray, then additional hair retention devices are used, as well as a special self-cleaning design.

Also cleaning of especially strong pollution can be made by means of a sanitary rod. But this should be done by a professional.

How is the siphon installed?

The installation algorithm involves several actions in a certain sequence:

  1. The base is being prepared.
  2. A mandatory check of the device for tightness and reliability of connections is carried out.
  3. On an inverted pallet, after installing the power structure, a ladder is attached with a connected flexible hose for draining.
  4. Turning the pallet back, adjust the legs in place.
  5. Check the location of the ladder, which should be located from the sewer no more than five centimeters from the drain.
  6. All hoses are treated with sealant, after which water is started.

Low cabins are always mounted on a cement screed, and in this case a brass or chrome-plated drain must be installed at an angle.

How to reset the siphon?

The difficulty of replacing the shower siphon depends on the height of the tray and on the installation of the previous design. The easiest way is to replace the ladder in a high shower stall.
To do this, do the following:

  1. All holes are unscrewed: drains, and if any, overflow.
  2. The siphon is removed.
  3. A new ladder is being installed, with additional sealing being carried out.

Replacing a drain on a low pallet is more difficult. Often, low pallets are glued to the floor with mounting foam, so it may be necessary to reposition the pallet.

To avoid this, during the initial installation, care must be taken to have a self-cleaning hole or a wide neck for easy cleaning.

The siphon acts as a kind of intermediate link between the shower tray and the sewer system. The forces of this component also provide a hydraulic seal (not in all models), which eliminates the possibility of penetration of unpleasant sewer odors into the space of the room with a shower cabin installed.

The design of a standard siphon includes two main parts: a drain and an overflow (may be absent in some models). A fairly large selection of siphons is presented on the modern market, differing primarily in the features of the design, mechanism of action and overall dimensions.

In the course of reviewing the information below, you will learn what siphons are, how to choose the appropriate model for use in combination with a shower cabin equipped with a low tray (this group usually includes products up to 20 cm high), and also get information that allows you to connect this plumbing products on their own, refusing paid services of third-party performers.

In accordance with the mechanism of action, the existing varieties of siphons are classified into 3 main groups. You can find key information about each of them in the following table.

Table. Classification of siphons according to the mechanism of action

Product groupDescription

The most familiar option for our compatriot. Such siphons work according to an elementary scheme:
- the plug was closed - water began to be drawn into the container;
- the plug was opened - the liquid rushed into the sewer system.
That is, the control of such units is completely manual. Ordinary siphons are the most budgetary and generally obsolete. If possible, they try to abandon their installation in favor of more modern, functional and easy-to-use units.

The logical receiver of the conventional siphon discussed above. This design is equipped with a control knob, by turning which the user can close and open the drain hole again. There is no cork here in its classical sense, as well as a water seal.

The most modern and most convenient option to use. The design is equipped with a special button that the user can press with his foot to open and close the drain.

Helpful advice! When choosing the type of construction and suitable dimensions of the siphon, be guided by the height of the tray of your shower cabin, because. the installation of the plumbing fixture in question is carried out in the space under the pallet. In view of this, a low siphon is selected for use in combination with a low pallet. Models are available for sale that rise above the floor surface to the minimum possible values. The most common are products with a height of 80-200 mm.

In addition to classification in accordance with the mechanism of action, siphons are divided into 3 main categories, taking into account the features of their design. Information regarding these points is given in the following table.

Table. Classification of siphons by type of construction

Product groupDescription

Almost every reader could see such a siphon under the sink in his kitchen or under the sink in the bathroom. These products got their name due to the shape similar to a bottle. Directly in the space of the "bottle" is the sedimentation of debris before it is subsequently sent to the sewer system. Also, the forces of the "bottle" ensure the creation of a hydraulic seal.
Representatives of this category have quite impressive dimensions, which makes it impossible to use them in combination with shower cabins equipped with trays of any type, and low ones are no exception. Yes, and “bottle” siphons received their popularity by and large due to the fact that they are very easy to clean from the contaminants accumulating inside.

The most widely used models are made in the shape of the letter U or S. The hydraulic valve is located in the pipe bend. The design is characterized by sufficiently high rates of strength and reliability. Models of different sizes are available for sale, but the use of the vast majority of them in combination with a shower cabin equipped with a low tray will be impossible.

The design is well suited for use where installation space is limited. The product can be bent at the desired angle, which makes plumbing activities even more convenient. A water seal is formed at the bend. The only drawback of corrugated siphons is a relatively low service life compared to the previously considered options.

Thus, a corrugated siphon can be adapted for use in combination with a shower cabin equipped with a low tray. Also a suitable option is a special drain ladder. The following example shows an excellent example of a well-organized connection of the plumbing element in question.

The drain drain is installed in the opening of the shower tray or the tiled concrete base that performs its functions and is connected to the sewer pipe. Water enters the "ladder", and from there it is discharged into the sewer. The height of plums in this category ranges from 80-200 mm on average. At the same time, the lower the ladder, the more efficiently and efficiently it works. Also, with the help of a ladder, you can equip a full-fledged drainage of water from the cabin without a traditional pallet - in this case, the plumbing element will be poured into the screed. An example of this kind of construction is shown in the following image.

What else to look for when choosing a siphon?

The mechanism of action and design are not the only criteria that must be taken into account when choosing a siphon. In order for the sanitary ware to cope with the tasks assigned to it with the highest quality and for a long time, read the information in the following table, and be sure to use the recommendations received when choosing a siphon for your shower cabin.

Table. Criteria for choosing a siphon for a shower cabin

Selection criterionDescription
Drain hole diameterIn accordance with current standards, shower trays are equipped with holes having a diameter of 52 mm, 62 mm, and 90 mm. Before you go for a siphon, be sure to measure the drain hole of your shower tray. The information received will help you better navigate and choose the most suitable model of the sanitary ware in question.
Important note! As a rule, siphons for connecting to the sewer initially come with a shower cabin. If the existing device suits you completely, you can connect the pallet using it.
BandwidthThis indicator is determined by the size of the water layer located above the drain hole. So that the full operation of the equipped system is ensured, the height of the water layer in the case of drains with a diameter of 5.2 and 6.2 cm should be 12 cm, and 15 cm if the diameter of the hole for draining water is 9 cm.
Additional elementsSiphons, no matter how high-quality and functional they are, tend to become clogged. If this moment is not foreseen in advance, cleaning the plumbing element in the future may require the complete dismantling of the system.
To avoid such laborious work, it is better to initially buy a siphon that can clean itself, or give preference to a product equipped with a mesh for collecting small debris - it will not allow the drain to quickly and heavily clog.
In accordance with current European standards, trays equipped with drains with a diameter of 5.2 cm and 6.2 cm are installed in such a way that, if necessary, unhindered access to the siphon and pipes can be obtained for checking their condition, cleaning, etc.
In the case of 9 cm drains, cleaning is carried out through the intake hole.
Important! It is forbidden to clean the pipes with compressed air. Because of this, the connections can be depressurized, which will lead to leakage.

How to connect the shower siphon

You got acquainted with the various designs of shower siphons, which differ in the mechanism of action and a number of other indicators. Regardless of the model, any siphon is connected in the same way. Differences arise only at the stage of installing additional elements (a handle in automatic siphons, a button in siphons of the “click-clack” type, etc.). Specify the order of their installation in the manufacturer's instructions - depending on the model and the specific brand, the installation may have some differences.

Installing a siphon from scratch

Instructions for the first connection of the siphon to a new shower enclosure are given in the following table.

Helpful advice! It is most convenient to independently connect the siphon after the pallet is installed on the frame.

Table. Siphon connection

Stage of workDescription

Unpack the siphon as shown in the image.

Take out the drain valve.

Unscrew the sleeve from the housing. Remove cover and gaskets.

Run sealant along the drain groove.

Install the gasket from the kit into the groove treated with sealant.

Run sealant along the gasket groove.

Place the cover of the siphon body in the drain hole of the shower tray. It is important that the thread of the cap matches the thread of the hole.

At this stage, you need to make a connection. To do this, turn the cover sleeve, as shown in the figure.

To fix the drain, you need to perform 2 main steps:
- tighten the connection with a socket wrench;
- insert the valve as shown in the figure.

Overflow installation is carried out in a similar manner. In this example, the drain has a control knob. Follow the sequence below:
- loosen the fixing screw (this can be done through the corresponding hole in the handle body), then dismantle the cover;
- align the overflow body with the corresponding hole in the shower tray structure.
Important! At this stage, as with the installation of the drain, gaskets are installed with mandatory sealing.
By tightening the connection between the cover and the body with an adjustable wrench. The said tool must be adjusted correctly so that as a result it is possible to capture the jumper of the overflow cover.
Place the handle by which the drain is controlled so that a 3-4 mm gap remains between the surface of the front cover and the end of the handle (see the figure).
Tighten the screw after adjustment.

Installation of the siphon elbow is carried out in the direction of the entrance to the sewer. This element is mounted before the test of the tightness of the shower cabin. The result is shown in the figure.

A corrugated pipe is traditionally used to connect a siphon installed in the correct position to a sewer pipe. Appropriate adapters are used if necessary.

Further assembly of the shower cabin is determined by the features of a particular design.

Even the most expensive and high-quality siphon has a limited lifespan, which in most cases is much more modest compared to the durability of a shower tray. If your siphon is out of order, replace it following the instructions below.

First of all, you need to remove the decorative panel of the shower tray. In most models, this element is fastened with latches / clips. There are usually no problems with dismantling: just press on the screen with some effort and the clips will snap open.

  • disconnect the knee from the sewer;

  • disconnect the knee from the shower tray using the appropriate tool (usually an adjustable wrench is used to unscrew it, or the washer is screwed with some effort by hand, otherwise be guided by the features of fastening the knee specifically to your siphon);

  • dismantle the overflow (if it exists and must be replaced);
  • dismantle all components of the drain.

Detailed information regarding each step of the action with accompanying illustrations was given in the instructions for installing the siphon "from scratch", it makes no sense to duplicate it. You are also familiar with the procedure for installing a new siphon from the previous manual. Follow the instructions given and you'll be fine.

Using the drain

Mentioned earlier was the marvel of the modern plumbing market known as the sink drain. This device is perfect for use in combination with shower trays of various heights. It is important to understand that the drain has certain dimensions, and there must be enough space between the floor surface and the underside of the upper edge of the shower tray to install the sanitary ware.

If the shower tray is installed on adjustable legs or a support frame, there will be no problems - the required height of the tray is set, the drain is installed (guidelines for its assembly / disassembly and proper placement will be given later), the drain is connected to the sewer, after which the space between the floor and the pallet is closed with a decorative screen or masked in another suitable way.

Another thing is if the owner bought an almost completely flat pallet. In this case, you will have to go for a trick, using one of the options discussed in the following table.

Table. Installation options for a flat tray for connecting a siphon

Installation optionDescription

The bottom line is this: a pedestal is assembled from wooden boards (in fact, a strong hard box without upper and lower edges) and a shower tray is laid on it.
For assembly, use boards with a length along the sides of the pallet, a height sufficient to install the ladder of the selected dimensions, with a thickness of 4 cm, so that the structure can easily withstand the weight of the pallet and the visitor standing on it.
The boards are fastened inside with corners and pulled together with screws / self-tapping screws. As a result, it becomes possible to install a ladder and connect it to the sewer pipe.
The method is extremely simple and budget, but has a big drawback: fragility. In the end, the boards will still begin to rot from use in such conditions. To delay this moment, firstly, use the highest quality material, and secondly, be sure to treat it with a special antiseptic impregnation that helps increase the water-repellent properties of wood.

A simple option that does not require much effort to implement. A small pit is being built under the place of the future installation of the shower tray (one of the popular dimensional variations will be presented after the table). The resulting free space will allow you to easily accommodate the drain (it does not need a rigid base) and connect it through a corrugated pipe to the sewer.
The hole shown can be made even if a finished floor has already been laid. It is enough to mark the platform on the floor according to the shape and size of the shower tray (the sides, as shown in the figure, will rest on the floor) and cut the wood in accordance with the markup.

Separate consideration deserves the procedure for installing a shower tray on a base of blocks (foam concrete and the like are suitable, if desired and satisfying overall dimensions, it can even be a brick or cinder block). The instruction is given in the table.

Important! The same manual will show the installation, connection and subsequent actions with the ladder. In addition to the arrangement of the supporting structure, the stages of work remain identical.

Table. Installing a pallet on a block base

Stage of workDescription

Place the pallet on the floor at the place of installation and draw around the contours of the product with a pencil.

Install 4 support blocks, pre-cut (you can use a hand saw) on the products of the required height. Make sure that the resulting free space under the pallet is enough to accommodate the siphon / drain structure.
Do not forget to waterproof the base under the blocks with any available roll material, securing it with mastic.

Place the pallet on the blocks. Check if the structure is stable, if there are any excessive distortions (often pallets are installed with a slope of 2-5 degrees in the direction of the drain to ensure effective drainage of water) and if there is enough space under the pallet for the siphon / drain of the chosen model. If everything is fine, remove the pallet and proceed to fix the blocks.

Alternately applying tile adhesive to each support, fix all 4 blocks to the floor.

Place the pan on the stands and use a pencil to mark the location of the drain hole on the floor. Remove the tray.

Connect the siphon to the sewer pipe. The connection points and used fasteners are shown in the figure. If necessary, use a corrugated pipe and / or adapters, depending on the features of the sewer pipe leading into the room and its characteristics.

Following the already familiar technology, install the support blocks around the entire perimeter of the pallet.

Apply tile adhesive around the perimeter of the support structure. Smooth out the adhesive in a thin layer.

Place the pallet on the resulting support structure. To fix the pallet, carefully tap on its sides with a wooden hammer, while controlling the position of the structure with a building level.

Mount the corresponding part of the siphon into the pan through the sealing gasket. As a rule, this part is screwed into the drain hole using a special tool from the kit (shown in the image).

Walk with silicone sealant along the joints of the pallet with the walls.
Finish the lining of the support from the blocks with tiles to your taste. Also, to mask the base, you can use an overhead decorative screen or other suitable options at your discretion.

The above guide showed how to connect a compact siphon (drain) for a low shower tray. In general, the sequence of actions remains the same for all existing models of the mentioned sanitary ware, however, in order for the installation to be quick and easy, it is necessary to have a complete understanding of the design of the ladder and, most importantly, the process of its self-disassembly / assembly.

The structure of the drain is shown in the following table.

You can find the order of self-disassembly of the ladder for its subsequent installation in the following table.

Table. The procedure for disassembling the drain

Stage of workDescription

We pry the cover with a screwdriver, as shown in the figure, and remove it from the mounts. Next, we take out the mesh, if any.

To get to the fixing screws, we take out the middle part of the structure (shown in the figure). To do this, carefully pry its edges with a screwdriver, like the top plate, and take it out.

Their number may vary depending on the specific design. In this example, there are two fasteners.

After unscrewing the screws, remove the upper part of the system. This part is installed in the pallet.

There is an exit for connection with a sewer pipe. Assembly is carried out in the reverse order.

The siphon, a plumbing element that is invisible at first glance, performs very important functions in the system under consideration. In order for the design to serve as long and efficiently as possible, try to initially purchase a high-quality sanitary ware, or even better, use the unit included in the shower cabin package, if any.

Having bought an extremely budget siphon from a little-known manufacturer, you run the risk of facing many problems in the future associated with the need for very frequent cleaning of the system or even its speedy repair.

To make the siphon less clogged, equip the drain with a special overhead mesh, even if the design you have chosen has a built-in mesh or is even equipped with a self-cleaning element. Such additions are extremely inexpensive, but their presence eliminates the risk of clogging the siphon with hair and various small debris.

Successful work!

When equipping a shower cabin in a house or apartment, it is necessary to foresee a system for draining water from the bathroom in advance. Pallets are outdated, modern people choose space and versatility when equipping a shower room. Shower drains when installed without a pallet are divided into ladders and channels.

Shower enclosure without tray

Draining in a shower floor system has its advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages:

  • Saving usable space;
  • Convenience when using children, the elderly;
  • Quick cleaning;
  • Visual enlargement of the bathroom space.
  • Disadvantages:
  • In case of mistakes made in the design and construction of drainage structures, water stagnation and an unpleasant odor are possible;
  • No hydromassage.

The floor in the bathroom is a kind of tray, water from which can be diverted using a ladder or channel.

How to equip a shower with a ladder

Ladder- this is a system for draining water through a grate of various geometric shapes, through which water enters the sewer. In order for water to flow to the drain hole, it is necessary to make the floor with a slope towards the grate.

If the placement of the ladder is planned to be in the center of the shower room, then the floor should be tilted in 4 planes. When placing the drain hole in a corner, 2 slope planes are sufficient.

The minimum slope allowed is 1 cm per square meter of floor surface.

The drainage system of the ladder is a prefabricated structure:

  • The ladder fixture itself;
  • Siphon for a shower cabin;
  • A pipe leading to a sewer hole.
  • Floor refurbishment:
  • A layer of expanded polystyrene 5-6 centimeters thick, acting as sound and heat insulation;

Installation of a sewer shower system without a pallet:

  • The structure should be centered using the building level;
  • Provide a downward slope in the direction of the sewer riser so that the water from the siphon flows off on its own;
  • Fix the system with concrete mortar.
  • Concrete screed /3-4 cm/ should ensure the immobility of the drain system for the shower cabin;
  • A layer of waterproofing material that ensures the absence of humidity in the room;
  • Clean concrete screed, equipping the slope of the floor to the ladder about 4-5 cm;
  • A layer of ceramic tiles for comfortable use of the shower cabin.

The grate of the drain must be at the level of the lowest point of the floor slope.

Shower cubicle design with channel

shower channel- this is an elongated rectangle, which consists of a grate and a body, designed to drain water from the shower into the sewer. Lattices come in various configurations, which a person chooses in accordance with his taste.

Installation is carried out more often at the entrance to the bathroom or near one of the walls. The slope of the floor is carried out in one direction, depending on the location of the channel.

Channel material, usually plastic or stainless steel. The volume of water flowing through most modern devices reaches 20 liters per minute, which ensures good water flow in shower drains.

In retail chains, you can purchase drain systems in separate parts or completely complete with a siphon and a pipe so that you can immediately install it in the shower room.

What is a siphon and how to choose a siphon for a shower

Siphon- a special device that diverts water into the sewer. One of the main tasks of the siphon is to protect sewage from clogging.

The characteristics of the siphon depend on:

From the height of the product;
. Pipe outlet diameter.

Construction types: bottle and knee-.

Production material: stainless steel, cast iron, plastic.

When choosing a siphon for a shower cabin, you should carefully study the characteristics of the device.

Usually, the throughput of the structure is strictly limited to a certain volume of water, exceeding which it is possible to fill the floor surface.

Before purchasing a siphon, it is advisable to calculate the average volume of fluid consumed in order to avoid trouble in the future.

When buying a structure separately, you should carefully check the correspondence of parts and holes.

Tools and materials required for drain installation

When arranging a shower without a pallet, you will need tools:

  • Tile cutter;
  • Trowel;
  • Drill with a special nozzle to make a recess in the floor;
  • Construction level;
  • Capacity for mixing concrete mortar;
  • Ruler and pencil;
  • Rubber mallet and brush for painting.

To assemble the design of a shower with a tray, you must:

  • Hammer and chisel;
  • Perforator;
  • Level.

You will also need materials that are the same in both cases:

  • Siphons for shower cabins;
  • Plastic sewer pipe;
  • Sealant.

Shower tray installation and drain installation

Pallets are made from various materials, which differ depending on their cost. The most common and cheapest are acrylic and steel.

Acrylics are chosen for their light weight, which allows for quick delivery and self-installation. Steel pallets quickly heat up to a certain temperature. The advantage of shower trays is quick assembly and the possibility of repair if necessary.

Siphons for shower trays are selected according to the height and depth of the tray that is used.

Installing the drip tray and drain system:

  1. Prepare the base for the structure by checking its horizontalness with the help of a level;
  2. Check the strength of the entry and the absence of vibrations;
  3. Remove the device and, turning it over, fix the siphon with a flexible hose to drain water into the sewer;
  4. Place the pallet on the base, adjust the height of the legs;
  5. The drain speed depends on the distance from the bottom of the siphon to the sewer pipe, so you need to set this size to about 5-7 cm;
  6. Connect the drain hose to the sewer tee, securing it with sealant for reliability.

The tilt of the pallet with respect to the floor should not be done, as this is done during the design of the device.
