Today, decoupage of the jewelry box is very popular among connoisseurs of beauty. And this is not surprising. With the help of such art, you can express your creative abilities, and as a result, acquire a valuable and exclusive thing. What is decoupage? This is a unique technique that allows you to apply a pattern on a different surface.. As a working material, not only the box, but also a book and other items can be used. Today we will look at how to convert an old jewelry box.

Necessary tools and materials (MK)

To apply an image to a product, you must have the following materials:

  • special napkins for decoupage;
  • sandpaper;
  • decoupage glue;
  • wax candle;
  • adhesive tape and various elements for decoration;
  • screwdriver.

The exact list of tools and materials depends on what technique will be used to apply the drawing.. It should be borne in mind that before decorating, it is necessary to prepare the surface. Below we propose to consider a detailed master class for decorating a box with your own hands in the decoupage style.

Decoupage technique

Having all the necessary materials and tools, you can proceed directly to creative activity. It is worth noting that wood is considered the best option for decoupage.. If desired, a book or plastic product can be used.

Stages of decoupage execution of a wooden box:

1. First you need to prepare the surface of the box. If we are talking about things made of wood, then the base should be carefully processed with sandpaper. High-quality surface preparation will be the key to successful decoration of the box. This is especially true for old products.

2. If the object has metal decorative elements, then it is better to remove them for a while. You can solve this issue with a screwdriver or other improvised tools. When the surface is prepared, you can begin to tint it. Here we are talking about painting it completely with acrylic paints.

3. At this stage, the selected pattern is transferred to the surface. Ready-made drawings can be purchased in special stores. The part with the image on it is carefully separated from the napkin.

4. Elements of the pattern are carefully applied to the prepared surface. Selected places on the product are processed with decoupage glue. After that, you will need to wait until the glue is completely dry.

5. At this stage, the thing is varnished several times. When the surface is completely dry, you can proceed to the direct decoration. To begin with, the old decorative elements are fixed in place. At the same time, they take into account in what style the product itself will be designed. In some cases, a rational solution would be to change or completely remove certain decorative elements.

It is necessary to take into account in what style the product itself will be designed. Decoupage of a wooden box provides for its decoration, up to the change of all decorative elements and accessories.

Decoupage in different styles

Decoupage for beginners is a creative activity. Even the use of instructions does not deprive the product of originality. After such a technique, the box or book will become original in its own way. Before proceeding with the conversion of the product, it is worth considering all the available options.

Registration can be carried out in different styles:

  • vintage;
  • provence;
  • shabby chic.

The most common option is decoupage in the style vintage . With the help of certain tricks, the box can be somewhat aged. To achieve maximum effect, experts recommend using the craquelure technique.. The effect of aging is created using paint, which is applied directly to the prepared surface. To begin with, dark colors are used, and lighter tones are applied on top of them.

Decoupage boxes in vintage style

Stages of decoupage in vintage style:

1. The first coat can be applied with brown paint, then wait for the surface to dry.

2. A second coat of paint is applied, only a lighter shade. The best option is white, light gray and beige.

3. When the paint dries, the places are lightly rubbed with sandpaper. Processing is carried out until the bottom layer of paint comes out.

3. At the final stage, the product is decorated. The best option here would be retro pictures, roses and other patterns. For decoration, the craquelure technique is also often used. Such a decoupage jewelry box will become an original decoration for any room interior.

No less popular is decoupage in style. provence. Work is performed in the same sequence. Of course, there are some peculiarities here. For decoration use drawings of flowers or rustic motifs. It is rational to use paint of bed shades. The aging effect is also relevant here. Using the craquelure technique, you can create the appearance of cracking in the pattern.

Decoupage boxes in Provence style

Provence style is ideal for transforming a round box.

Jewelry box in style shabby chic decorated in almost the same way as in previous techniques. Characteristic features are bed tones, old pictures, images of flowers, twigs and other “delicate” details. Shabby chic is used to decorate various items, regardless of their shape and size. This is especially true for products made in the form of a book.

Interesting ideas for decoupage boxes (41 photos)

Gaining experience, I continue to share with you all the stages of the birth of my various boxes. In this master class, we will make a box for storing all kinds of tools.

I'm starting to make side walls from MDF for our future drawer.

There is a working process. I remove excess MDF with a screwdriver and a nozzle with sandpaper.

Here, the "sides" are almost ready.

I draw a future pen.

And also, with the help of a screwdriver, I remove the excess.

Here, all parts of our box are ready.

Before you start assembling the box, you need to make holes in the side walls for the handle.

Using a drill, I drilled holes and inserted a handle, of course, lubricating this place well with Crystal glue.

I glued the box, then knocked down all the walls with carnations.

The box is assembled!

I need to cover up the ugly holes formed after the drill. Therefore, I spread the putty with pva glue.

Those were the holes.

That's how it got blurred. But this is the first time. When it dried, I applied the solution again and then, after the secondary drying, I sanded this place.

From a small piece of MDF, you need to make a decorative element that will later decorate the front of the box.

Done! By the way: such elements in the art store cost 128 rubles / piece. And I did it in 5-7 minutes. So why pay someone?

This time I decided not to putty the body, but to paint it right away. Therefore, to begin with, I primed the entire surface. After priming, be sure to sand the entire surface of the box.

I'm starting to paint. I mix white acrylic paint for walls and ceilings (hereinafter it is in the photo) with a primer and add colors (black and brown).

I do not like to wait, so it speeds up the drying process - a hair dryer! After drying, sand a little with fine sandpaper where required.

The cinder of the candle "walked" along all the ends and edges.

This is after one coat.

And this is after two coats. We are waiting for complete drying. Fan help me!

Fine skin all over the body.

I'm going to start gluing rice paper.

I mark the necessary contours with a pencil on the back of the card and carefully tear them off with my hands.

I lubricate the case with pva and glue a card on it.

If the card climbs a little beyond the edges, then feel free to take sandpaper and remove the excess.

We also cover the pva on top of the map. The photo shows how the color of a newly coated pva card changes and what the color becomes after the pva dries.

Glue a decorative element.

I don't have plaster molds yet. I have to buy these polymer flowers.

This mother-of-pearl enamel covered the entire body of the box and varnished everything.

When the box was ready, I realized that he needed some kind of pair. And I decided to make a small box too.

I got such a little one.

And this is how my boxes look after almost two days of my work.

Handmade items make the home cozy and look attractive. A fascinating activity - decoupage - will allow you to create with your own hands not only beautiful, but also useful things for the home. Even for beginners, work will not take much time, but you will have something to be proud of in front of your friends and family.

How to make a beautiful jewelry box

Do not rush to throw away large or small boxes: thanks to the decoupage technique, they can be turned into attractive and functional boxes, organizers. Even an ordinary shoe box can be turned into an eye-catching piece of decor.

Decoupage of cardboard boxes is performed using:

  • decoupage cards or ordinary paper napkins;
  • PVA glue.

You will also need a surface finish varnish, acrylic primer, fine-grained sandpaper.

For decoupage, choose the box you like, not crumpled and without cracks or damage. Cover it and the lid with acrylic primer or stain (if you want the background of the box to be dark). Several layers must be made so that no images, inscriptions on the box shine through.

You need to paint not with a brush, but with a sponge, blotting movements. So the coating will be evener, and then it can be processed with a “sandpaper” to obtain a smooth surface. You can leave the surface textured: this way it will look more spectacular.

Instruction for beginners: if the box is too smooth, it is better to remove the excess gloss to ensure that the paint and paper adhere. To do this, you need to treat the surface with sandpaper.

When the primer dries, you need to lightly sand the surface to remove excess paint. Now you need to choose the material for decoration. Consider what you want to create:

  • jewelry box;
  • desktop organizer;
  • spice box;

"Mom's Treasures"

Choose napkins or decoupage cards that match the style and plot. Pull out (do not cut!) the necessary motives from them, create a preliminary composition.

It is more convenient to decoupage boxes for beginners using the “file” method. Apply a thin layer of PVA glue on the primed surface of the box, carefully attach the fragment cut out of the napkin, having previously removed the lower layers and leaving only the topmost, thin layer with a pattern.

Place a stationery file or polyethylene on top of the napkin and gently smooth the pasted fragment, directing movements from the middle to the edges. Iron until all the air is out and the tissue sticks to the box. In the same way, glue all the fragments of the picture.

Now you can paint the background with acrylic paints, tint the corners to give the box an aged look. It remains to cover the resulting box with varnish in several layers, if desired, add a three-dimensional decor. Now no one can guess what your box originally was.

So you can decoupage shoe boxes, a variety of packaging boxes.

Organizer out of the box

An original organizer for papers, stationery, kitchen spices can be made from a shoe box. Remove the cover, find the center of the long sides. Make cutouts on the sides at an angle, then gently fold the bottom of the box in half so that it becomes the center wall of the double organizer.

To make an even fold, first draw a knitting needle or the blunt end of scissors along the drawn line. Now you can carefully fold along the ruler.

We bend the workpiece, glue the sides. We paste over the inside of the organizer with paper or cloth. We cover the outer part with a primer.

Now you need an egg shell. It must be washed with soap, cleaned from the inner film. We apply PVA glue to the surface of the box and carefully glue small pieces of eggshell. We get the original surface. For reliability, once again we pass with a brush with glue on the surface.

We glue fragments of napkins on top - according to the same principle as in the previous master class for decoupage boxes. It remains to cover the surface with varnish, and the more layers you apply, the more attractive the look of the box will be.

Do-it-yourself decoupage of boxes is an interesting activity that takes a little time, but as a result you get original interior items. Once you try it, you won't want to throw away something that, after a little refinement, will decorate your home with dignity.

Photo decoupage boxes

Hello dear needlewomen and hand-made lovers! I present to your attention a master class on decorating a box. Decorate an ordinary wooden box made of plywood (8 mm) using the shabby chic technique.

For this we need:

  • wood billet,
  • napkin,
  • art acrylic primer
  • acrylic paints for creativity (white, ivory, green (green foliage),
  • bitumen,
  • PVA stationery glue (or acrylic varnish),
  • paraffin candle,
  • varnish for one-step craquelure,
  • acrylic lacquer for the final coating of the product,
  • brushes, foam sponges, sandpaper.

Before proceeding with the decoration, it is necessary to sand all the bumps and roughness with sandpaper to smoothness. We cover our workpiece with soil and after complete drying, sand it again, remove excess soil, leveling the surface.

We paint the surfaces in the color "Green Foliage" using a wide brush.

After drying (you can speed up the process using an ordinary hair dryer, in the “warm air” mode), to further scuff our product, we rub some places with an ordinary wax candle.

The shabby chic style implies the presence of certain “traces of time” on decor items - scuffs, chips, cracks. To simulate cracks, we will use a one-step craquelure varnish. On the outer corners of our box, we evenly apply craquelure varnish.

When the varnish dries, but remains sticky and does not stain the fingers (after about 20-30 minutes), we paint the surfaces with beige paint. Important! To get cracks, apply the paint to the craquelure in one direction with one stroke.

After complete drying, sand all surfaces. In order to show scuffs, we especially actively rub those places with sandpaper that we rubbed with a candle.

To decorate our product, we chose an ordinary three-layer napkin. We select the element we need by cutting off the edges of the napkin.

We remove the lower white layers of the napkin and place the pattern on the workpiece.

In our work, for gluing the napkin, we used household acrylic varnish purchased at a hardware store. We apply the varnish with a wide, well-moistened brush, with quick movements without strong pressure. We put a dot in the center of the picture and, as it were, drawing a snowflake from the center to the periphery, we glue our napkin. If wrinkles appear, you can gently lift the edge of the napkin and “drive out” air bubbles from the center to the periphery with a brush.

If, nevertheless, small wrinkles remain, we will remove them with sandpaper after the napkin has completely dried.

In order to smooth out the color transition between the napkin and the general background, we “beat off” (“bumping” movements) the edges of the pattern with a foam sponge moistened with beige paint.

Today, decoupage is used in the design of completely different items: both exclusively decorative and functional. Thanks to a wide range of decor materials and the ability to choose any design theme, such a simple but effective technique is ideal for finishing products for storing personal items. In what ways and how you can make a beautiful decoupage of boxes - read the article.

To create decorative boxes, blanks are used - boxes with compartments, solid or carved, mobile, flexible or independent lid without external and internal decoration. The blank can be large and small, made of wood, plywood, MDF. Natural wood products are highly durable and environmentally friendly, when plywood and MDF blanks are cheap.

Blanks of different shapes and sizes can be made independently from papier-mâché.

There are different types of blanks of different shapes, sizes and configurations for a variety of purposes. So, a blank with a pull-out block with ten compartments is suitable for storing small items (for example, rings), can be decorated in the style of “Barbie Chest”, which can be decorated with pink fabric, sparkles, a mirror, etc. and is perfect for as a gift for a little girl. And the six-compartment blank can act as an elegant place to store tea bags.

In online stores, you can find a box blank and a pencil case blank (the principle of operation of these boxes is based on extending storage compartments), an apple blank (can be of various diameters), slatted boxes in the form of loft-style decoupage boxes, a heart blank .

Blanks can be made with your own hands using newspaper tubes weaving on a thick cardboard frame, cut out of a decorative zucchini.

Accessories for decoupage boxes

The design elements of the caskets include all the details that have a decorative and applied character. So, accessories for decoupage of caskets are conditionally divided into decorative-functional and exclusively decorative. The first type of products includes all kinds of locks, corners, hinges, legs, etc., the second - borders, pictures, textiles, sparkles, sequins, etc.

Borders for boxes

For decorating boxes, you can use handicraft borders - functional blanks that can be used to decorate the lid of the box and sidewalls around the perimeter. Borders can be both patterned ribbons with floral or geometric ornaments, and stripes with various images (from flowers, fruits and vegetables, to cockerels, dogs, musical instruments, etc.)

Pictures for decoupage boxes

Pictures for decorating boxes can be represented by ordinary paper napkins, rice napkins, stickers, clippings from newspapers, magazines, books, prints on plain and photographic paper, decoupage cards. Working with any decorative element presented has its own nuances and features. So, pictures from rice napkins are not cut out with scissors, but are torn out manually, and printouts and decoupage cards with a high density are applied by “implantation” with the help of varnish.

How to decoupage wooden boxes

Decoupage of wooden boxes is the best solution for independent work of beginner decorators. This technique requires a minimum of skill, materials and time, while guaranteeing an effective and attractive result. To decoupage an ordinary square wooden box, we need a decoupage card according to the size of the lid, glue and decoupage varnish, acrylic light brown and paint to match the napkin, glazing medium, two-step craquelure, rough sandpaper, brush, file.

To perform decoupage you need:

  1. Sand the surface of the box and seal the lid with masking tape, on which, in the future, the drawing will be placed.
  2. Paint all edges of the box with acrylic light brown paint with a glazing medium.
  3. According to the pattern of the tree, add paint to match the napkin (also diluted with glazing agent).
  4. After the paint has dried, sand the edges of the box to white.
  5. Overlay the picture on the file inside out, soak in water
  6. Place the drawing on the cover, remove the file, paint over the drawing with glue.
  7. Sand the edges of the picture and cover it with craquelure in two layers with intermediate drying.
  8. Varnish the finished product.

Malachite decoupage boxes: master class

Malachite painting is a rather complex and painstaking work that allows you to get a picture that imitates the surface of a bright green mineral. In order to perform this type of decoupage, you will need: a decoupage card or a napkin with a motif in the color scheme corresponding to malachite, acrylic paints (black, white, turquoise, dark and light green), acrylic drying retarder, thick cardboard, scissors, synthetic brushes, gold pigment, foam sponge, sandpaper, plastic bag, glossy decoupage varnish.

Making the box:

  1. We prepare the surface of the workpiece for decoration.
  2. We cover, with the help of a foam rubber sponge, the entire surface of the box with white paint mixed with light green.
  3. We process the layer with sandpaper and varnish.
  4. We apply turquoise paint on the surface of the box with strokes (leaving free spaces) and press the strokes with a plastic bag to obtain non-standard prints.
  5. We take dark green paint and add black blotches to it, apply it in the same way to the area already drawn in turquoise.
  6. We take cardboard, apply it to the strokes and remove them, pull them to the side.
  7. We fix the result with varnish.
  8. We add a retarder to each paint and apply strokes using curved cardboard, alternating light paint with turquoise and dark.
  9. The result is fixed with a fixative varnish.
  10. After the product has completely dried, glue the napkin, add gold pigment to the protruding contours and varnish the product.

In this technique, both rectangular and round, oval caskets can be framed. Such decoration requires perseverance and a lot of time, but it allows you to create an incredibly beautiful, unique product with a surface that imitates malachite.

In order to perfectly master this decoupage technique, you should complete special author's lessons and take courses such as, for example, Olga Sukhova.

New Year's decoupage for the box

New Year's boxes can be decorated similarly to traditional decor with napkins or decoupage varnish printouts. The second method guarantees the maximum fusion of the picture with the surface of the box.

Lacquer printout is prepared as follows:

  1. We cover the picture printed on glossy photographic paper (with allowances) with acrylic varnish in four layers with a drying interval of one to two minutes.
  2. We soak the printout in water, after that we lay it out on the table with the paper side.
  3. Using a needle, separate the top film layer from the paper.
  4. We transfer the film-image to the file face inward.

After decorating the surface of the box in New Year's colors, you need to overlay the image on the desired area and delete the file. The image should be fixed with glue, applying strokes from the center to the periphery. You can use sparkles, sequins, glitter, artificial snow and ice (semolina, decorative putty, moment glue) as decorations for decorating the box. The finished product must be varnished.

When covering the box with varnish, you need to ensure that there is a gap between the lid and the box: the varnish should not go into the gap, otherwise the decor can be damaged when opened.

Vintage decoupage of a round box

Decoupage of a round antique box is a simple and beautiful way to get an attractive product that will look great in a French country interior. In order to make vintage decoupage, we need napkins with large flowers, acrylic brown and white paint, gold pigment, wax, PVA, brushes, foam sponge, decoupage varnish.

We make the box step by step:

  1. We carefully skin the surface of the box and apply brown acrylic in several layers.
  2. We cover the semicircular edges of the box with wax.
  3. We apply white acrylic with a foam sponge.
  4. We skin the places where the wax was applied to a brown base.
  5. We apply a dry napkin to the surface of the box and glue it with PVA. Thus, we completely decorate the workpiece.
  6. After the applications have dried, we apply brown acrylic with a sponge, and then a golden pigment, on the protruding edges of the lid, the bottom of the box.
  7. We cover the product with decoupage varnish-fixer or yacht varnish.

If desired, inside, the box can be decorated with a fabric with a motif corresponding to the overall design, floral patterns can be applied using a stencil.

A master class on how else you can make vintage surface aging can be found on the YouTube channel "Decoupage from Anna Turchina".

Dried lavender flowers, polymer roses can be used for volumetric decor of a box in a vintage style. The center of the lid of the box can be decorated with a plaster angel.

Box-book: decoupage

To design a box in the form of a book, you will need an ordinary blank, a table fork, a palette knife, acrylic paints, brushes, decorative pine-colored putty, glue, decoupage varnish, decoupage cards, sandpaper, foam sponge, file, masking tape, decorative corners.

Let's get to work:

  1. We skin the surface and cover with white acrylic the top and bottom covers, the sidewall with hinges.
  2. After the acrylic has dried, we glue the decoupage card using a file (the method is described in the New Year's decoupage master class) on the painted surfaces.
  3. We model the pages: we apply putty on the front side face with a three-millimeter layer and pierce the grooves-pages with a fork.
  4. We tint the dried grooves, mixed with black, brown acrylic paint, add gold pigment.
  5. We decorate the corners of the book with carved, forged elements.
  6. Optionally, we make interior decoration (we decorate the inner surface with a decoupage napkin, fabric, text, etc.)

The book is ready!
