Home wooden swing. Do-it-yourself children's swing in the country is a real job for a loving father. Rocking horse for the little ones

There is no better decoration for a summer house or a private house than a swing - an excellent place for an afternoon rest for the whole family. Would you like to install them in your area? In our instructions you will find all the necessary information on how to make a do-it-yourself wooden swing for a summer residence and a garden, and not only about that.

The material is conditionally divided into three parts.

  • In the first part of the article, we will consider the properties of wood and which breed is better to choose to make a garden swing with your own hands. Next, we will clarify what types of swings are made of wood, and we will also provide a table with the calculation of the strength of the supporting structures so that you can calculate the weight load.
  • In the second part of the material, we will conduct several step-by-step master classes from which you will learn how to make the most popular and not too complicated designs of wooden swings for summer cottages. Among them: single with a wooden frame, from a bar and logs, in the form of a sofa and a bench, from a pallet, double outdoor swings and a swing-balancer for children, as well as the simplest version from the board.
  • The third part of the article is aimed at arranging a garden swing. We will discuss their decoration, painting and the choice of covers. You will learn how to make a wooden swing seat with your own hands, how to fix it and repair it in case of cracking. In conclusion, we will consider the main swing roof options for summer cottages and gardens and how to care for such attractions.

Wood as a material: characteristics and properties

To build a good swing, first of all, you need to take care of the selection of quality materials. The most popular is wood - a cheap and practical raw material that will not cause difficulties in use even for beginners, not to mention experienced builders. Outdoor swings for summer cottages made of wood are popular in all types of sites - they organically fit into landscape design, are easy to operate. Let's try to figure out what are the pros and cons of using such material.

Advantages and disadvantages of wood

You do not need to have serious carpentry skills to work with wood - for this you only need a few supplies (we will talk about them a little later). Among the advantages of wood it should be noted:

  • environmental friendliness - such material looks more organic on the site, the more flowers, bushes and trees you place on it;
  • aesthetics of wooden buildings - with a competent approach to decorating, the result can exceed all expectations;
  • low price.

However, while listing the advantages, it is impossible not to pay attention to some disadvantages. The most significant of these is the relative fragility of wood. Unlike a metal swing, a wooden swing will require much more careful care. Wood with difficulties endures such natural factors as:

  • rain;
  • snow;
  • direct sunlight;
  • fungus and mold;
  • insects;
  • sharp temperature changes;
  • decay processes.

That is why it is important to cover the tree with special antiseptics or just varnish, stain.

What breed is better to choose for a swing

Consider the fact that some species of coniferous trees may be subject to rotting, which can be fought locally by covering the areas affected by the fungus with a special antiseptic (pinotex has proven itself well).

An excellent raw material for buildings of any type is oak, which has a significant drawback - the high price of raw materials. However, it is very durable, massive and quite easy to work with when decorating.

Another option would also be the construction of a linden swing - it is rarely used for large buildings, because it does not have a sufficient degree of protection from the cold, however, this factor does not play a significant role for a swing. The material itself looks attractive, while possessing the necessary level of strength.

Strength calculation for wooden swing beams

The calculation of the strength of the swing is based on the crossbar on which the swing will be hung. The thickness / height / length of the crossbar is taken into account. In the table below, you can see what approximate loads the support will withstand with these quantitative values.

Types of garden swings made of wood

Swings made of wood are distinguished by a variety of shapes and methods of construction. We propose to draw your attention to the proposed options for country garden swings made of wood, each of them has a number of advantages and disadvantages that must be considered before starting construction.

By installation method

According to the installation method, the swing can be:

  • stationary
  • portable
  • suspended

Summer swings for summer cottages can be stationary - this means that when installing them, you assume that they will stand exclusively in one place (a columnar foundation is laid). Such a building is reliable and strong, it will last a long time. The minus is obvious: it will be problematic to move the swing from the place.

Such a swing is more mobile than the previous version. They are mounted on a pre-prepared support, and, basically, they differ both in a high degree of transportation and in the possibility of folding, for example, for transportation to another place of rest (not all wooden structures have this property).

Aesthetic appeal and ease of operation make this type of swing especially desirable for installation on the site. A significant disadvantage may be the insufficient strength of the proposed support - in other words, on your site you must have a tree of the required size. Most often, hanging swings with a wooden seat are installed for children - tree branches can support their weight without much difficulty.

By destination

A swing for the street to the country house can also be divided according to its intended purpose. Not every design is suitable for operation at the same time even by two people. This classification implies a division into swings:

  • family;
  • for children;
  • for adults.

Family swing.

They can easily accommodate up to 4 people. They are based on a large bench, which helps to easily place both children and adults on a swing. Powerful fasteners must be installed on the structure and they must be made of durable wood.

Wooden children's swing.

This is a small design designed for light weight - most often they are designed for one or two places, and you can swing on them quite high. These are installed more with an entertaining than a relaxing function. An important component is the safety elements - a comfortable backrest and handrails that will help fix the position of the child.

Outdoor swing for adults.

They are considered one of the indispensable attributes of a site equipped for recreation. Such swings cannot swing widely, but in most cases they have canopies, which makes it possible to enjoy your vacation even in rain, wind or the scorching sun. Sometimes insect nets are attached to such swings - they become like tents, and can compete in comfort even with gazebos.

Properties of different types of wood

A few words should also be said about the types of wood, because not every wood is suitable for creating a swing, because such a building must not only resist the challenges of nature, but also withstand certain loads every day. The tensile strengths of different types of wood are shown in the table below.

LarchPineSpruceOakBirchAspen
When compressed along the fibers64,5 48,5 44,5 57,5 55,0 42,5

When folding along the fibers tangentially9,4 7,3 6,8 12,2 11,2 8,6

Wood is also chosen because of the texture - the pattern on the cut, which is obtained when the fibers or growth rings intersect. The texture is closely dependent on the type of wood: in conifers it is simpler, in deciduous it is very diverse. Here are the textures of some rocks:

An important physical factor is the gloss of wood. The greatest brilliance is distinguished by structures made of beech, oak and mahogany (otherwise - mahogany).

Do-it-yourself single swing made of wood

If you are interested in quality construction, then you should pay attention to the instructions and advice from experts. How to make a garden swing with your own hands from wood, we will now describe in detail.

You should start with the fact that a single swing for a garden made of wood is not designed for a large seated weight (up to 120 kg). Most often they are installed for young children. If you decide to install a children's swing, then, among other things, you need to consider a protection system for the baby in order to avoid falls and injuries.

Drawing and project

Do-it-yourself drawings of a garden swing made of wood will be necessary for a more detailed study of the appearance of the structure. The diagram should show:

  • overall length, width, height;
  • height of vertical columns;
  • vertical beam length;
  • the length of the mounting bars supporting the vertical posts;
  • the distance between the seat and vertical beams on both sides;
  • distance from the seat to the ground.

We have prepared for you a project and a drawing of a wooden swing, check it out below.

It will be important to indicate the thickness of the board and the area on which the swing will be located. It is best to create a drawing from several angles - the better you approach planning, the less likely there are errors in the calculations in the future.

Step-by-step instruction

You need to start building a swing for a garden with your own hands by choosing a place. Preferably the terrain should be free of holes and mounds. Otherwise, the swing will be uneven.

We construct side vertical pillars. To do this, take two bars 3100 mm. The length of the bars (side "a") can be calculated knowing the height of the swing (side "b") - 3000 mm and the angle at which the bars are connected at the top point - 30 degrees (β). The formula looks like this:

Base length - 1560 mm.

Now, between the vertical posts, we push a horizontal beam (a chain with a seat will be attached to it in the future) with a length of 3000 mm. After that, we drill a through hole from the upper edge of the support post and screw in a screw with a nut, strengthening the structure.

We tilt the structure on its side and drill two through holes in a horizontal beam at a distance of 750 mm from the edges (for the construction of a suspension). We screw the bolts with a washer into them, we wind the eye nuts onto the ends. Now we raise the support to the legs.

Wooden spacer bars should be installed between the standing bars. We will fix with the help of metal corners and 5 mm screws. We fix the upper spacer with the help of corners.

In this project, we mount the swing without installing a concrete base, so we cover the bars with bitumen to extend their service life. From above we cover the tree with a stain to give it the desired color.

Let's take a seat. For the back we make bars with dimensions of 30x13x457 mm. For the seat frame, use bars with dimensions of 51x152 mm. You will need two such frames (seat and back). Attach the slats to the frames and tighten the seat and back with the help of corners. For convenience, you can nail the armrests to the seat. We fasten eye bolts to the sides (2 pieces on each side - one to the seat, one to the back).

Let's put up a swing. We attach carabiners to the eye nuts and then attach two chains. The length of the chain that is attached to the seat is 1650 mm, and the one that is attached to the back is 1200 mm. Calculating the distance is quite simple, it is only important to remember that a sitting person should reach the ground with his feet.

Since sitting on a wooden seat is not very comfortable, we advise you to sew special covers that can be removed and washed at any time.

In order for both racks to have the same angle of inclination, we recommend that you first lay out the structure on the ground and then outline the necessary boundaries

Do-it-yourself swing from timber and logs

Timber is a material in which reliability is successfully combined with an attractive appearance. From it you can easily make a swing for both children and adults. Due to the fact that this material is quite massive, do-it-yourself wooden swings can turn out to be as beautiful as purchased ones and as strong as iron ones.

Advantages and disadvantages

Let's decide on the main pros and cons of a log swing. Let's start with the positives:

  • the swing is stable;
  • such structures are difficult to damage not only to people, but also to adverse weather conditions, for example, strong winds;
  • attractive appearance. As a rule, such swings look quite impressive, which makes them a real decoration of your garden plot.

Disadvantages, alas, are also present: a tree, as you know, is very sensitive to all kinds of insects, and protecting logs from pests is somewhat more difficult than ordinary boards. Wood, among other things, tends to rot over time.

Antique wood swing

If you want to make your yard a work of art, we recommend that you pay attention to the stylization of antique wood swings. For this you need:

2. Make notches and notches on all swing beams.

3. Cover with the first layer of stain, let dry, then cover with one more layer and leave until completely dry.

Let's make a garden swing with our own hands step by step

We suggest you build a wooden swing in the form of a bench, which are shown below.

First, prepare a flat platform for the swing. Use a building yardstick and pegs to mark the boundaries of your structure. Study the drawing of a swing made of timber with dimensions that we have compiled before proceeding with installation.

It is necessary to prepare material for installation. You will need 4 beams 2070 mm long and 100 mm in diameter. They will be the support of the structure and are connected at an angle of 30 degrees in the form of an isosceles triangle (letter A). Base length - 1035 mm. The length of the partition at the base is 1035 mm. The length of the A-shaped partition is 455 mm (20 mm protrusion on each side). The width of the structure is 4500 mm, the width of the bench is 1500 mm. The diameter of all bars is 100 mm (it is not clearly visible in the photo, but we recommend using this particular size).

We make vertical racks for a swing. We take two beams 2070 mm long and place them on the ground in the form of an isosceles triangle. After that, using a compass and a pencil, we mark out a single circle on two bars with a diameter of 100 mm (each bar should have a semicircle with a radius of 50 mm). Using a grinder, cut out the marked area and sand it. We check how the horizontal beam fits into the recesses, if it protrudes, we file a little and clean the vertical racks. We do the same with the other side.

Now we put the racks vertically and fix the horizontal beam with long bolts with washers and nuts. Fasten on the other side in the same way.
We make horizontal partitions. On vertical racks we make recesses with a chisel and a hammer. It should turn out like in the picture.

The first partition is A-shaped. To begin with, it is necessary to make a recess in it, since a diagonal support will enter it. We make a recess in the vertical pillars (for the upper and lower partitions). Next, we adjust the diagonal bar to fit the hole in the A-shaped bar. At the end, we cut it off at the end at an angle of 45 degrees and fasten it to the bolt.
The top brace should be 1110 mm from the base, the bottom brace at a height of 50 mm. .
We put the structure on its feet. At a distance of 1500 mm from the ends, we drill a hole and thread two bolts. We twist everything with eye nuts.

Swing in the form of a sofa

This type of swing really impresses most summer residents with its attractive appearance. We will not consider how to make a swing sofa for a summer residence with our own hands, step by step, because. have already described how to make wooden supports, and this is 75% of the structure. Using the drawings provided by us, you can make stand-ups for such a swing. However, we will dwell on sofas for such swings in more detail.

Tips for building a sofa swing with your own hands

Such swings need to be varnished from time to time - this will protect them from both insects and cracks.

Pallet swing

Swings in the yard from pallets for summer cottages are popular with those who know a lot about savings and design ideas - such a design will be inexpensive and will attract attention from neighbors. How to make a swing from pallets with your own hands? Let's deal with this issue.

Which pallets to choose for a swing

Garden swings can be made from virtually any pallet. There are three types of pallets:

  • European (1200x800);
  • Finnish (1200x1000);
  • American (1200x1200).

The latter are the strongest of the presented, but at the same time the heaviest. Finnish swings are best suited for swings - they are equally strong and light. It is advisable to use new pallets, but if you don’t have any at hand, you can use used ones, having repaired them in advance.

  1. Rigidity. Pallets must retain their shape during deflection and not break, otherwise the swing is unlikely to support the weight of even an adult.
  2. Price. You do not need to spend a lot of money on the purchase of pallets, just as you do not need to save too much on their purchase. Here you should stick to the golden mean.

Do-it-yourself step-by-step instructions for swings from pallets

A simple but very comfortable design is a pallet swing sofa. Prepare pallets for work. Remove excess debris and excess nails from them (if pallets have been used before).

We are preparing a general drawing-project of a swing with a seat and a frame. In this case, the width is 3000 mm, the height is 3000 mm, 4 crossbars are used as a-shaped supports, set on two sides in the form of isosceles triangles at an angle of 30 degrees at the upper attachment point. (the shop is not the same as in the drawing, but the same size. The correct shop is in paragraph 2).

Study the detailed drawing of the pallet swing itself, provided by our editors.

We cut the pallets according to the drawing with an electric jigsaw.

We knock down two pallets with nails between each other, as in the photo. If two pallets are taken for the seat, then take care of the load-bearing logs nailed from below (they will take on the weight of people).

Make armrests. We use 4 bars of 80 mm in height and 35 mm in diameter. Nail them to the seat as in the photo. On top of each side we nail two boards, pre-sanded. We wind the eyebolts, on which the chains will subsequently be attached.

We make vertical pillars. The creation scheme is the same as in the previous cases - we cut off the edges of two inclined beams, and put a horizontal beam in the center. Then fix with screws. We strengthen the edges of the horizontal beam with metal corners.

For decoration, you can put a few pillows on the seat or sew a separate cover so that you can comfortably spend time on the swing.

Double outdoor swing

Double outdoor swing on wooden posts - an option for a family where children do not want to ride in turns at all. They are just as easy to make as singles, you just need a little more time.

Double street swings also require additional calculations - in the drawing for the project, do not forget to consider the location of the seats so that they do not touch each other when swinging.

If the swing is a solid bench, then keep in mind that they will be quite heavy, so you should calculate the load on the mount in advance. We advise you to study the table provided in the section “strength calculation for wooden swing beams”. Structures of this kind have their own characteristics:

  1. Wider top bar. If the seats are not connected to each other, we recommend making a length of 4500 mm, if the seats are connected - 3000-3500 mm.
  2. Reinforced base (columnar foundation).

Materials and tools

We propose to make a double garden swing for a summer residence original - for two children with separate seats. Thus, children will get maximum pleasure while relaxing together.

Tools:

  • shovel;
  • building meter and pegs;
  • manual drill;
  • bucket;
  • capacity for mixing concrete;
  • saw or grinder;
  • hammer (normal and rubber);
  • drill with drills;
  • wrench;
  • grinder with a disk for metal;
  • welding machine;
  • screwdriver

Materials:

  • bars 100x100x3000 - 4 pcs;
  • timber 70x200x4000 - 1 pc;
  • bolts with eye nuts;
  • carabiners for chains;
  • metal chain 3000 mm long;
  • plywood sheet 3 mm;
  • paint (blue, red);
  • corrugated pipe 10 mm and 50 mm thick.

Step-by-step instructions for a double street swing with your own hands

Building a swing for a garden with your own hands begins with choosing a suitable place on your site. Make sure that the area is open and permanent buildings are at least 5-7 meters from the site.

1. We are preparing a project. After that, on the site we mark the boundaries of the swing with pegs. To make the structure more attractive, you can paint it in bright colors, but more on that later.

2. For the upper part of the swing frame, we use a professional pipe with a diameter of 50 mm. It is necessary to weld two parts 600 mm long at an angle of 45 degrees to the crossbar (if it is from a professional pipe) to get an isosceles triangle. If the crossbar is made of timber, then we use nuts and bolts, pre-drilling holes of the desired diameter. At a height of 250 mm from the base of the tubes, weld a spacer so that an A-shaped structure is obtained as in the photo. If you use a crossbar made of timber, then it will be able to withstand a weight load of about 250 kg.

3. We drill 4 holes for bolts with eye nuts.
4. It is necessary to prepare vertical supports from a bar for a double garden swing. We attach them to the triangles from the professional pipe. We drill 5 holes in each triangle and tighten the screws. We do the same with the remaining legs. At the end, we cover the lower part of the bars with an antiseptic for a longer service life.
5. We take plywood and a jigsaw. Using a pencil, draw an equilateral triangle with sides 600x600x500 mm. Cut out the triangle and round its corners. After that, using self-tapping screws, we attach to the vertical bars, closing them.

6. Now you need to make a columnar foundation. Using a hand drill, we make holes with a depth of 400 mm. At the bottom we fall asleep a layer of sand (100 mm). Next, install the legs of the swing and pour the concrete solution. We are waiting for 2-3 days until it hardens.

7. Installation of seats. To do this, take several steel rods with a diameter of 10 mm and bend them as shown in the figure. Then, by welding, we combine them into a single structure. At the top, along each of the edges, we weld fasteners for chains. Repeat the process for the second seat.

8. Finally, you need to connect the seats to the upper horizontal beam using chains. We measure 4 segments of 1800 mm. Next, we attach with the help of carabiners to the eye nuts. It remains to decorate the swing. We take blue and red paint and paint the seats, as well as the racks. Let dry for a day and enjoy.

Wood swing balancer

You already know how to build a swing for a dacha with your own hands, but if you don’t want to deal with suspended structures, then we can offer a balancer-type design - an option for sharing leisure time with a child or for general children's entertainment.

Features of balancers

Children's homemade wooden swings of this kind are good because they are difficult to break or damage. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that such entertainment is only suitable if you have two children or you are constantly focused on playing with a child, since it makes no sense to ride a balance beam on your own.

In addition, balancers are several times more traumatic than conventional designs, and therefore it is not necessary to neglect safety rules when using them. For balancers in safety frames, handrails and backrests are made.

Step-by-step instruction

Do-it-yourself swings on the street are done as follows:

1. Draw a drawing of your future swing-balancer. Specify the dimensions of all structural elements, as well as angles and radii.

2. Take a board 1500 mm long and sand it with sandpaper. Next, you should cut out small recesses 20 mm thick and 100 mm wide. The recesses should be located 280 mm from the ends of the board.
3. We cut out the details for the recesses with the dimensions as in the drawing.

4. Now you need a board 20 mm thick, measure as shown in the figure. Next, using a saw, cut off unnecessary parts of the board. At the end, take a brace and drill a hole. We sand it. After that, using self-tapping screws, we fix the parts to the recesses.
5. We make vertical posts for the base of the swing. We take a board 650-680 mm long, 50 mm high and 60 mm wide. We sharpen the end of the board in the form of a stake with the help of an ax, at the other end with the help of a brace we drill a hole with a diameter of 25 mm.

6. We take a device for attaching the board to the support posts with dimensions of 40x60 mm and a length of 160 mm. We sand and rub the ends in such a way that we get a pointed rectangle. Then, using a saw, we saw off a small piece from the end 3-5 mm long. We do the same on the other side. Next, using a long 25 mm drill, we drill through

7. Now you need a steel bar with a diameter of 24 mm and a length of 180 mm. Using a die, we make threads at both ends by hand. Thread length - 5-6 mm. We drive it into a drilled 25 mm hole in the bar so that it fits very tightly;

8. We assemble the structure. We connect a long board and a bar together with bolts (drill a hole through and connect). We drive the rod into vertical posts and tighten the nuts. For more strength, you can weld them on.

The assembly of the wooden garden swing is completed - now you and your children can enjoy the new toy in the yard!

Board swing - the easiest option

A few words about how to make a swing from boards in the country with your own hands. More precisely from a single board. The design is one of the most popular among summer residents and country builders.

Assembling a wooden garden swing usually requires some amount of time and materials. Here you only need one board and a rope. We will fasten this structure to a tree (an oak or any other massive tree will do).

Unusual swing options

If you want to make something special for your children, we recommend that you pay attention to the unusual designs of homemade garden swings for summer cottages. Their main difference is in the material that is used either for the seat or for attaching the seat to the frame / tree.

You can create a swing with your own hands in a tire garden, for example.

An excellent option for a wicker round swing is a tire suspended from several fasteners with a rope or chain. In order to make such a design, you will need to pierce the tire through and pass a rope or chain through the resulting holes, securing it.

Another unusual swing option is floating benches. These are the most common benches suspended from a tree on ropes or chains. We recommend making such a garden swing from rattan or vines and then hanging it by carabiners from the ceiling of your veranda or on a tree.

Another option is to make a swing in the form of some object, such as a car or an airplane. It will take more time for such a design, but in the end your children will constantly play on them. To do this, you will need to spend a lot of time on the manufacture of individual parts, as well as connecting them together. However, the result will justify all your efforts.

Decoration and arrangement

Wooden swing for relaxation can be decorated in various ways. These can be both decorative pillows thrown on the seats, and intricate carvings along the edges of the bars. Lamps next to the swings, including floor lamps, look especially impressive. There are options to experiment with the rope - perhaps it can be braided with something bright.

Finishing Features

A beautiful wooden swing cannot be imagined without decoration and decoration. At the same time, even a non-professional can try himself as a carver - for this you need to have an electric jigsaw and a little imagination. Remember that hardwoods are somewhat easier to work with - although they are more reluctant to finish, the end result will look much better.

You can paint the swing with the following materials:

  • wood/metal paint;
  • stain;
  • antiseptic.

Painting

It is best to paint a garden swing immediately after filling. Paint should be chosen specifically for wood - it will not only lie better, but also protect the material from pests. At the same time, the paint, unfortunately, is not so durable - the swing will have to be repainted every few years.

Paint is considered a good protection against pests and insects, and the look of a painted swing is aesthetically pleasing.

Choice of covers, mattresses and pillows

Swing covers, most often, choose bright colors - this is not a mistake, but it should be borne in mind that the material may fade in the air. It is best to choose fabric for garden swings from those that are considered waterproof (like a tarpaulin or raincoat fabric). There is no chance that you will always take the pillows into the house on time, and the rain will not be so terrible for canvas, and it is much easier to dry them later.

Pay attention to the fact that people will come into contact with the fabric, and not only natural factors - in order to sit on a swing not only comfortable, but also pleasant, you need to make sure that natural raw materials are present in the fabric - for example , cotton or viscose.

The dimensions of the cover should be 3-4 mm larger than the parameters of the seat so that you can adjust the cover. To attach the cover to the bottom of the wooden seat, we recommend using a construction stapler.

swing seat

If you don’t want to buy seats in the store, we suggest considering the option of how to make a swing seat with your own hands using improvised means. Pay attention to the fact that wooden seats will be more advantageous than metal ones - they are safer and more comfortable. On the other hand, their strength will be constantly tested, and it would be good to take this fact into account when designing. For comfortable riding, it is recommended to sheathe the seats with a soft cloth - this also helps to avoid unnecessary injuries.

Types of seats for swings

According to the design of the seat for the swing, they differ:

  • with a back - for both children and adults;
  • without a back. Relevant for teenagers - for kids it can be too dangerous;
  • with armrests and without them;

By size:

  • for garden swings - in the form of a bench or sofa;
  • single seat for an adult or teenager - no more than 600 mm in width;
  • for children's swings - single with a width of not more than 500 mm, or even less.

According to the material of manufacture:

  • plastic;
  • tarpaulin;
  • tree.

How to make a DIY swing seat

Do-it-yourself swing seat is extremely simple. You can knock it down from the boards:

You will need:

Prepare the seat frame. To do this, sand all the bars and then knock them down with nails (or screw in screws).

Nail the horizontal bars. The distance between each bar is 3 mm.

Attach the bars to the seat, each of which is attached to the crossbar for the armrests.

We recommend fixing the back at an angle of 110 degrees.

The seat is ready. After that, it is best to cover it with a special septic tank or stain / varnish.

If the seat on the swing that you made turned out to be unreliable (or you see that it will soon become so), then it is worth repairing it.

  • The most important thing is to remove the fabric and patch up the holes, after washing it. You can use raincoat fabric or other strong material to patch holes (if the seat on the garden swing is torn). Often, funny applications are attached to the place of the holes - they are sold in the store.
  • Repair of a seat on a garden swing can be completely cardinal: you can remove the seat completely and wrap the frame with a nylon cord. You will ride on such a swing for a very long time - the cord is very strong, and in which case, it will not take as long to make a constriction as to do patching.

How to fix the swing to the horizontal bar?

We discussed how to assemble a country garden swing - it's time to clarify how to fix them. The dimensions of the drill, bolts and nuts, depending on the design of the swing.

If you are attaching to a horizontal bar from above:

  1. We drill a hole through with a drill;
  2. We insert a bolt with a washer;
  3. We wind the eye-nut from the underside of the crossbar.

If you attach to the seat:

  1. We drill a hole for fastening;
  2. We pass a bolt with a washer;
  3. We screw in the eye nut.

To prevent the nut from being pressed through, it is advisable to put a washer under its cap.

In the store you can find special mounts of various shapes and devices. There is only one drawback to such a mount - the swing begins to seriously creak during operation if the mount is not lubricated in time.

Outdoor swing roof

A do-it-yourself roof for a swing in the garden is done almost as quickly as the swing itself. When creating a roof, it is best to focus on the shape of the building and its purpose. Consider several options for materials for a wooden swing with a roof for the garden.

How to care for a swing

During construction (as well as during subsequent operation), it should be borne in mind that a tree for a swing does not differ in the same strength and reliability as, for example, metal. Therefore, you need to pay attention not only to how you will bring down the swing, but also to how to properly care for them.

  • Once every few years (usually a period of 3-4 years is taken as the basis), it is desirable to treat the surface with a special anti-rotting agent.
  • With some periodicity, we advise you to repaint the structure, refresh the colors.
  • Do not forget about metal parts (for example, handrails on swing-balancers) - they will also need to be treated with a rust and darkening agent.
  • Fabric covers should be washed periodically - once every one and a half to two months.

It is difficult to imagine a person who at least once did not ride on a swing as a child. Even as adults, many still like to relax and swing in the garden in the country, not to mention children. Many install structures bought in a store on their site, and some create country masterpieces on their own. The editors of the site bring to your attention an overview from which you will learn how to create a fairly popular attraction - a garden swing with your own hands: photos and drawings will be a good help in this.

Types of garden swings with photos of models

Swings are divided according to the material of manufacture, type of construction and purpose. So, for example, designs are for adults, children and the whole family. Consider some of the features of various designs, depending on their purpose.

Adult swing

Swings for adults are characterized by simplicity and increased structural strength. They can be stationary or portable. Swings for summer cottages are made from a variety of materials and must withstand a load of more than 120 kg. Structures can take a variety of forms.

Garden swing

Attraction for children

Comfortable swing seat

As a swing seat, you can use an ordinary (the easiest option), an old car tire, or a bench with a back, sofas. Designs intended for a child must be equipped with special seat belts.

Hanging chairs

Mounting the hanger to the supporting structure

The fastening of the seat to the support can be rigid and flexible. The first option uses a wooden beam, a metal corner or a pipe. Cables, chains and ropes are used for flexible suspension.

Swing seat with chains and ropes

A flexible suspension allows you to build a swing from improvised materials and install them very quickly. The easiest option is a board and two pieces of rope that are attached to a thick tree branch on a plot or veranda. With the help of chains, ropes and cables, the seat can be attached to both stationary and mobile support structures. It is not recommended to use flexible suspensions for riding small children, since such designs are not stable, and unsafe twisting of cables, chains or ropes is possible. To equip the swing, it is better to use chains or metal cables, since hemp ropes can stretch and sag, which will affect the reliability of the structure.

Rigid hangers made of metal and wood

The use of wooden beams, metal angles or pipes for suspension of seats to the supporting structure has its advantages. This option is more reliable and allows you to withstand more weight. A rigid suspension is best suited for children's swings.

How to make a swing "nest" with your own hands

"Nest" is a suspended structure with a round wicker seat. This swing model is also called a "basket" or "cobweb". Swing "nest" can fit 2-3 children or one adult. However, for the suspension of this attraction, it is necessary to use strong ropes.

To create such an attraction, you will need the following materials:

  • climbing safety rope, hemp or synthetic cord with Ø 5-6 mm for the seat device;
  • durable fabric and felt for the outer seat trim;
  • steel water pipe for the device of the supporting structure;
  • gymnastic hoop Ø 900 mm for the manufacture of the seat frame.

Playgarden Hanging swing "Nest"

Scheme and step-by-step instructions for creating a do-it-yourself street swing for a summer residence

The creation of a nest swing begins with the manufacture of a wicker or textile seat. If the attraction is intended only for children, then gymnastic hoops will be needed. The adult structure is made of a steel pipe with Ø 16 mm and a length of 1500 mm, which is shaped into a circle on a pipe bender. The joint is welded. Cables are attached to the frame, and the hoop is braided using the "dream catcher" or macrame technique. The cords for the seat are pulled tight so that there is no sagging. The hoop is finished with foam rubber and textiles or tarpaulin.

When the seat is ready, you can begin to create a supporting structure. To do this, you can use a profile pipe or a thick wooden beam. The support for the suspension of the seat is made as follows.

  1. We assemble two side A-shaped structures.
  2. If the swing is stationary, then the sidewalls are dug into the ground. The distance between the supports should be equal to the height of the structure.
  3. The sides at the top are connected by a steel pipe to which the seat will be attached.
  4. Cables, ropes or suspension chains are attached to the crossbar. To prevent abrasion of the cables from contact with the pipe, a polyester gasket is placed under them.
  5. The seat is attached to cables, ropes or chains with four carabiners.

After the design is ready, it needs to be tested for strength. To do this, it is necessary to place a load on the seat with a total weight of about 120-150 kg. This will allow you to check the tension of the cables, the braid of the hoop, and also adjust the optimal distance between the seat and the ground.

How to make a metal swing with your own hands in the country

Metal swings for summer cottages are stationary, with a rigid structure, and collapsible. The first option is preferable because it provides greater stability, security and reliability. However, in this case, welding skills are required. A collapsible design is less reliable, since loosening of the joints may occur during operation.

Here is one of the options for solving the device of a garden swing.

We offer you to watch a video - how to make a metal swing with your own hands.

How to make a swing from a profile pipe with your own hands

A profile pipe is the best option for the manufacture of metal swings, especially collapsible portable structures. This is due to the fact that in this case it is possible to do without welded joints. The swing can be easily assembled with the help of nuts. As we have already said, a bolted connection is less reliable than a welded one due to loosening during operation, but this problem can be solved by regularly checking the attachment points and, if necessary, eliminating the resulting backlash.

Consider the option of creating a metal swing for a summer residence from a profile pipe using welding.

Detailed manufacturing instructions

For the manufacture of a metal swing from a profile pipe, the following materials and tools will be required:

  • electric drill;
  • square and tape measure;
  • "Bulgarian";
  • metal brush;
  • paint brush or roller;
  • 40 × 40 × 2000 mm - 5 pcs.;
  • pipe 20 × 20 × 1000 mm - 2 pcs.;
  • profile 20 × 40 × 1000 mm - 3 pcs.;
  • board 20 × 90 × 1500 mm - 7 pcs.
Illustration Action Description

To begin with, we take two pipes and at an angle of 45 °. We check the corners: internal - 45 °, and outside turn - 90 °

We take a piece of pipe for the cross member, measure 700 mm from the bottom edge and mark the corners. We cut off the excess with a grinder with a cutting wheel. Using welding, we connect together all the parts of the A-shaped sidewall. The distance between the lower ends of the side post should be about 1,600 mm

In the same way we make the second sidewall of the swing

We install the sidewalls, and on them we put the upper crossbar, on which the swing seat will be attached. We check the angles between the vertical posts and the crossbar: they should be exactly 90 °

We additionally strengthen the structure with two sections of a profile pipe, with which we connect the sidewalls. Two "ears" must be welded to the upper cross member for attaching the seat suspensions

Now let's start making the swing seat itself. To do this, you need to take three pieces of a profile pipe with a cross section of 20 × 40 mm and grab them together by welding. Step back from the edge 100 mm and put the first mark. Next, apply risks at a distance of about 120 mm from each other

At the marks, use a grinder to make V-shaped cuts. The most extreme cuts must be made on the reverse side. After all the pipes are cut, you need to bend the structure to the desired shape

All joints in each pipe must be boiled, and the excess cut off

Separate the pipes, boil and clean all the seams with a grinder and paint

We fasten the pipes to the cut boards. To do this, we drill holes Ø 4 mm in them. We fix the boards with self-tapping screws

It turns out this is the seat

We attach “ears” for suspensions to the upper part of the back to the side pipes

We drill the edge of the pipe on the seat and install the bolts for attaching to the chain

Attaching suspension chains to the seat

We hang the sofa on the upper crossbar with carabiners

How to make a swing out of wood with your own hands

Making a do-it-yourself swing out of wood is the best option, since you don’t need to deal with welding: not everyone has one, and not every person knows how to use it. With a tree, the situation is completely different. A wooden swing can be made by almost anyone who knows how to handle and

A swing for children is one of the necessary elements for arranging a family plot. They will be relevant both in an ordinary household and in the country. And given that now there are a wide variety of designs, each of which can be assembled by a simple layman with his own hands, then you can create a real children's corner at minimal cost, which can not only provide leisure for kids, but also significantly improve the overall exterior of the site.

In this material, we will consider 9 master classes that answer the question of making a variety of children's swings with their own hands:

  • Stationary single from a bar;
  • Stationary doubles on a metal A-shaped frame;
  • Balancer from a car tire and a board;
  • Suspended for the house in the ceiling;
  • Hanging on a tree from a board;
  • Hanging on the crossbar for an apartment for children under 5 years old;
  • From fabric to wood or ceiling for children from six months;
  • In the form of a hammock with an already prepared mesh;
  • Figured swing.

How do children's swings differ from adults

First of all, before you start looking for workshops on creating children's swings for summer cottages and at home, you should remember that such designs should be different from those intended for adults. Main differences:

Therefore, we bring to your attention a variety of options, taking into account the maximum compliance of the swing with children's needs. At the same time, in our selection of master classes, we took into account the needs of children of different ages and can offer a wide selection for every taste.

Types of swing for children

There are a wide variety of swing options for toddlers and older children, some of which can be easily made with minimal cost from improvised materials. Others may require specific tools and useful skills. Still others can rightfully be called real works of art.

Type of frame material

In general, there are a huge variety of design options made from exotic materials. For example - created entirely from ropes or rubber, fiberglass and other polymers.

However, it is not surprising that traditional options made of wood or metal almost always hold the palm. Also, one should not forget that individual structures can contain both wooden and metal elements to achieve the best performance in all necessary parameters. We offer you to familiarize yourself with the comparative table of wooden and metal structures.

Relative availability and cheapness of the material;Higher cost of consumables;
Ease of processing;The need for tools and skills to work with metal;
The need for special care and surface treatment;The need for anti-corrosion treatment;
Relatively weak wear resistance and durability;High strength and wear resistance of the structure;
Fire hazard.Absolute fire safety.

Wooden swings for children are a good choice, as they often require a minimum amount of investment to create. So, many different types of wooden swings, both for home and for the street, can be built simply from improvised materials that are available in almost every household or left after construction. In addition, wood is an extremely easy material to process, so making a wooden swing for children with your own hands will not require any special skills or complex tools.

However, the tree also has a number of disadvantages. For example, these include less resistance to negative environmental influences and the need for special processing. In addition, wood is flammable and less durable than metal structural elements of similar size.

The wear of wood is higher, which is a very significant factor in the manufacture of outdoor swings for children, since they are constantly subjected to stress.

Children's metal swings for summer cottages are distinguished by fair durability and high strength, however, making them yourself may require both the purchase of materials and the availability of specific tools and experience with them. Of course, there are the simplest structures that almost everyone can make, but the cost of their creation will also be higher than with inherently similar wooden counterparts.

Metal is, although more durable, but also because of this, a more dangerous material for children's use, because it has greater hardness and mass.

By type of attachment

Depending on what type of fastening will be used on a children's swing, their placement will depend, and directly all other design features, including manufacturing complexity and total cost.
There are a huge number of different mounting options, so we will consider only the main ways of fastening a children's swing in the house, on the street, as well as portable structures that can be placed where it is necessary and convenient.

Stationary children's country swings are often solid, massive structures, which in some situations can even be additionally reinforced with a columnar foundation, which provides them with a high level of security.

Such designs also have corresponding disadvantages - constant exposure to the street requires appropriate treatment with anti-corrosion coatings, as well as high strength. But in general, a well-made stationary outdoor children's swing can last for several decades. In this case, the main structures can be:

  • Balancers;
  • Suspended A-shaped (or any other);
  • Carousels;
  • On a spring.

Suspended for indoor and outdoor

Suspended children's garden swing - the simplest design, dating back centuries. Roughly speaking, a banal bar on a rope also has the right to life, although safety and comfort in this case leave much to be desired, especially when used by young children.

If necessary, they can be mounted both in the house and on the street, and some of the structures are easily disassembled and transferred to the right place with a minimum of effort and time. In total, two main materials are used for fastening: a chain and a rope. To what you can attach a hanging swing, see the photos below.

The seat for such a swing can be either open or have a back. The material can be either plastic or wood, metal or a combination of the above materials.

In general, hanging swings are the minimum that can be made in a matter of hours, giving the child an excellent way to spend leisure time.

Children's portable swings will be a convenient option for situations where the final look of the house or site will still change, and it is necessary to provide leisure. They have the advantages of both stationary street and home structures.

However, not every option can be executed in a mobile form. For example, mobile spring swings are almost impossible to make, since they require a strong and deep foundation. In general, the main advantages and disadvantages can be summarized in a small list:

  • Portable swings are mobile, which means they can be easily protected from bad weather and other negative environmental factors.
  • Many options are prefabricated, which simplifies their transportation and storage.
  • Mobile children's swings usually require a more complex design or smaller loads.
  • Wear resistance and service life are lower than those of stationary options.

In general, this option is suitable in many situations, as it greatly simplifies the solution of a wide variety of economic issues.

According to the age

As mentioned above, when building home-made children's swings or buying them, it is extremely important to take into account the age of the child's children. In general, the options on the market imply a basic division into three age categories, the features of each of which will be described below.

Swings for babies are almost always mobile or homemade, as children under the age of three need increased parental control and a special approach to materials. In particular, most of these structures have an extremely small height, so that even an accidental fall or impact of a structural element cannot lead to injury to the child.

Self-made swings for babies under three years of age should be made either in the form of cradles, or have reliable fixing elements for the baby that he could not unfasten on his own, or be operated strictly under the supervision of adults without the possibility for the child to use the design in their absence.

Swings for children from three years old can also imply independent use by their children. They can be made in almost any design options using a wide range of materials. However, they are subject to additional safety requirements and are reduced in size compared to adult swings to minimize any risk of injury to children.

If you want to make a swing for children from 3 years old, then you can also use drawings for full-fledged adult structures, simply reducing their overall dimensions by one and a half to two times.

Swings for teenagers may not differ from designs for adults, both in materials and in size. Here, special attention is paid not to the exterior and appearance, but directly to the features of the swing. The only limitation may be the standards of GOST R 52167-2012, which provides for the absence of rigid suspensions, dimensions and other standards.

Stationary single swing made of wood

A stationary children's swing made of wood is one of the most interesting options, the independent production of which will cost a minimum of time and money. There are a large number of different design options, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages, but we will consider the construction of a U-shaped wooden swing for children with our own hands, as in the photo below.

Peculiarities

Children's U-shaped swings made of wood require a minimum consumption of material, but such a design will be stationary in any case. The installation of a stationary swing without the possibility of transferring them to a new place also acts as an additional guarantee of safety, because stationary models are highly durable and simply cannot physically tip over.

The following factors can be attributed to the features of the U-shaped street children's swing:

  • Simplicity and cheapness;
  • Exclusively stationary option;
  • High strength and reliability;
  • The absence of a large number of racks reduces the risk of injury;
  • U-shaped stationary children's swing for the garden has a wide potential for further completion of the playground on the site.
  • For a U-shaped swing, a foundation must be installed.

Do-it-yourself wooden U-shaped swing for children

  1. Prepare a flat area for the future swing.
  2. It is necessary to cut the beam so that it turns out 2 vertical posts 3000x150x150 each and 2 horizontal bars 1500x150x50 mm.
  3. A U-shaped structure should be assembled on the ground. For assembly, use long self-tapping screws, 1 pc. on a horizontal stand on each side for fastening, as well as 3 pcs evenly for greater structural strength, as in the photo below.
  4. Cut off the corners of the uprights with a knife or planer and sand them with sandpaper.
  5. The lower meter of the uprights should be treated with a protective coating against moisture. The best option would be to cover with used engine oil.
  6. Holes for bolts are drilled on a vertical crossbar 30 cm from the middle, which are fixed on it with eye nuts, which should be directed downwards. Don't forget to use washers.
  7. It is necessary to dig a foundation under the racks with a depth of 1200 mm. A sand cushion is poured under the foundation for 200 m, and the racks are buried per meter into the dug holes. Next, pour concrete (you can use M400 cement to make it in the proportion: 1 cement x 3 sand x 5 crushed stone).
  8. Attach the carabiners to the eyebolts.
  9. Prepare a seat from a board measuring 250x600 mm. Drill at the corners of the board at a distance of 20 mm from the edges, one hole with a diameter for the rope, as shown in the photo below. Also nail two planks 250x50mm from the bottom of the board to strengthen the seat (do not forget to drill them under the rope as well).
  10. Pass the rope through a loop through the carabiner, the free ends of the rope through the holes in the seat. Secure under the seat with a knot. Subsequently, the height of the seat can be adjusted. Repeat the same procedure with the second carabiner.
  11. Treat the wood with a primer, varnish or paint of your choice.
    Such a design will have to withstand weight up to 200 kilograms, so you don’t have to worry about child safety.

Stationary metal swing for two

For a large family, a good solution would be to make a stationary children's swing made of metal with your own hands for two.

Peculiarities

Key features of children's metal swing:

  • almost any similar metal structures can easily withstand loads up to 300 kilograms;
  • Self-manufacturing will require the presence of a welding machine and the ability to work with it;
  • The need to purchase structural elements, since they are not always at hand;
  • Indicators of durability, reliability and wear resistance will be higher than that of similar models made of wood.

Do-it-yourself metal A-shaped swing for two children

A simple and affordable for everyone design of an outdoor metal swing for two children in a country house is the most optimal in terms of time, necessary skills and the total cost of consumables. If you do everything according to the scheme recommended by us, you will get an attraction as in the photo below.

The procedure for the independent manufacture of such an iron swing for children will be as follows:

  1. First, let's make a swing frame. Let's take two long pipes of 5000 mm in length and a cross section of 40 mm. Each of them must be bent with a pipe bender at an angle of approximately 30 degrees, as in the figure below.
  2. In the second stage, we need two tubes with a cross section of 25 mm and a length of 500 mm. We weld them to our curved tubes so that we get spacers. You need to do as in the picture below with each of the two supports.
  3. The final stage in the construction of the frame will be the fastening of the two resulting halves with a vertical pipe with a cross section of 40 mm and a length of 3000 mm. We use a welding machine. The result is as in the photo below.
  4. It is important to understand that such a swing will be stationary, since we will fix them with a columnar foundation. If you want to make a portable structure, then the bending angle of the support posts should not be 30 degrees, but 40. The spacers are welded not in the middle of the supports, but in their lower part so that an isosceles triangle is obtained. However, we are making a stationary version, so we will prepare the foundation.
  5. We dig holes with a depth of 600 mm. Width approximately 100x100 mm. The location of the pits at the base of our swing frame. Take 4 square pieces of steel 80x80 mm for mortgages (steel thickness from 3 mm). At the bottom of the pits, tamp a sand cushion 100 mm. Next, insert the armatures so that their tops are just at ground level.
  6. Fill holes with concrete. Next, we weld mortgages to them. Mortgages must be welded when the concrete has set, but not yet completely hardened. We fix the mortgages with the help of anchor bolts for concrete, 4 pcs for each rack. Next, weld the base of the frame to the mortgages. The foundation and frame are ready. You can see the drawing of the foundation for a children's metal swing below.
  7. To fasten the seats to the horizontal bar, it is necessary to fix 4 loops with eyebolts, on which chains for the swing will be attached.
  8. To make a seat, take a board 600x200 mm. Drill 4 holes along the edges with a 15 mm offset of 5 mm diameter for fastenings for metal triangles (without a base), to which chains are attached in turn. Fix the triangles on the board with screws and a screwdriver into the holes that you did earlier. Do as in the picture below (only using the board).
  9. Do the operation twice to secure the two seats. Hang them at the right height, depending on the height of the child. As can be understood from the above procedure, such a design requires minimal costs and time.

Baby swing balancer

The design of balancers is perhaps one of the simplest and most ancient. Considering that such a swing can be used by at least two people, they will be an excellent option for sharing leisure time with the whole family with a child, or for several children.

The advantages of balancers in a sense are also their disadvantages. So, such a swing perfectly develops teamwork and encourages social interaction of children with each other, however, if a child is often left alone, such a design will be completely useless for him, unlike other options.

The variety of existing designs is extremely large. It can be both an elementary swing made of logs, and complex and beautifully decorated rides containing plastic and metal elements. In addition, some options can be reinforced with additional springs, which greatly enhances the pleasure of swinging.

You can learn more about the manufacture in a separate article on our website. The material contains 4 master classes. But still, we decided to consecrate one interesting version of the balancer in this article. How to make a children's swing from tires, read on.

Children's swing from tires

Old tires are an excellent material for making swings. After all, automotive rubber is both durable, soft and flexible. All this allows you to use it for the manufacture of a wide variety of household, outdoor and garden equipment, furniture, and, of course, children's swings. The most popular and affordable tire option at all times has been the simplest design, requiring only a hanging point, rope, and the tire itself.

You can make such a swing out of tires on your own in just a few minutes. However, safety, as well as interest for children, will leave much to be desired. You can reduce the danger of tire swings by following a simple instruction:

  • Use only high strength static climbing rope;
  • Check tires for strength and do not use torn material;
  • The thickness of the branch must be at least 25 cm, and the distance from it to the tree pole must be at least one meter.

But in addition to such a simple design, there are a number of much more interesting, safe and original swings made from old tires, which will allow you to organize an interesting exterior on the site and give any child the opportunity to have fun.

Such designs have reduced wear resistance and not the most attractive appearance. Far from every exterior they will look appropriate and relevant.

Next, we will look at the process of creating a quick, convenient and simple do-it-yourself tire swing. It will be a horizontal balancer - a very attractive design, which is not so often installed by people in households. So, such a swing will be an excellent addition to other attractions described in this article and will allow you to create a real playground in your country house or in the courtyard of a private house with minimal cost and effort.

To create an implementation of your plan, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • Screwdriver and wrench;
  • Drill;
  • One tire;
  • Board 3000x150x40 mm;
  • Two bars measuring 700x50x50 mm;
  • Sandpaper;
  • Saw;
  • Construction knife;
  • Screwdriver bolts with round caps, washers;
  • Paintwork materials and inventory.

All of the above dimensions do not have to be perfectly accurate - this is the advantage of this swing, since it allows the use of almost any suitable material, including various old boards available in almost any household.

  1. First of all, you need to choose a suitable tire and prepare it. The ideal option would be old domestic summer tires, as they will be stiff enough to withstand constant long-term loads. High-quality foreign soft tires, especially winter ones, will be better used in a more profitable way.
  2. Preparing the swing tire will require you to cut it horizontally into two halves. Most of them are reinforced, so instead of a construction knife, metal shears or a hacksaw may be required. One of the halves will become the basis for the swing. The second half can be cut in half again and make additional shock absorbers at the ends of the swing from the finished quarters.
  3. Preparation of boards and bars. Since the board will be used by children, sharp corners should be sawn off and sanded to avoid possible injury during operation.
  4. Next, mark the middle of the board and mark the installation site for half the tire. At the extreme points, it is necessary to mark the places for fastening the bars - it is to them that the tire will be attached in a horizontal plane.
  5. Holes are drilled in the board with a drill and bars are attached to them using self-tapping screws, 5 fasteners for each bar (see diagram). After that, points for holes in the tire are marked, drilled, the tire is fixed strictly in the middle. In total, you will get 16 mounts.
  6. After that, you can proceed with the installation of shock absorbers from tire quarters - they should be installed on the edges of the board. Shock absorbers are also attached to bolts, the caps of which should be on the upper side of the main swing board.
  7. When all the elements are fixed, you can start painting and varnishing. It is recommended to treat the tire with silicone grease or simply rub it with glycerin. The swing itself can be processed in any way convenient for you. For example - with the help of wood stain and varnish for wood, or with the help of ordinary oil paint.

Hanging swing

There are a huge number of varieties of children's hanging swings for summer cottages and at home, which can differ both in materials and in location, method of attachment, type of seat, age of the child and many other parameters. However, the basic principle of their operation, regardless of the chosen design, is the same.

The key feature of the hanging swing as a whole is the presence, in fact, of the suspension, as well as the point of its fixation. Roughly speaking, the most primitive version of this type of swing, even without the use of a seat, is a banal rope suspended from any horizontal beam. However, often hinged swings for children still have seats.

For apartments and houses in the ceiling

Ceiling hanging swing for the home is not only excellent entertainment for the child, but also an opportunity to add variety to the interior. The main thing in this case is to properly build a suspension and choose a seat - we will focus on this.

The procedure will be as follows

One of the simplest and most ancient types of hinged swings are those on a tree from a board. They do not require any complex manipulations, no experience with different materials, or even the construction of racks. So, in order to make a swing on a tree from a board, you only need a board, a hole drilled in it, a rope and 5 minutes of free time.

Given the simplicity of such a design - the rope is thrown over a tree and tied with a loop, and then fixed in the holes of the board, everyone can do it with their own hands.

But you should remember a few features of installing a hanging swing on a tree, namely:

Do-it-yourself swing for the little ones

A cradle for babies is also a swing that has come to our time from the most ancient times. It is useful even for the youngest children to swing on a swing - this develops an eye, a vestibular apparatus, a sense of rhythm and space.

However, the approach to such structures should be completely special, since the safety of babies under the age of three is in the first place and imposes a number of extremely strict restrictions.

Features of such a swing

A key feature of swings for babies is the mechanisms that ensure their safety. In general, given the existence of many different types of swings for children under three years old, as well as the features and differences of even such tender ages, their main principle should be:

  • The impossibility of accidental or intentional loss of the child from the structure;
  • The inability of the baby to independently use the swing in the absence of adults;
  • Lack of small details, hard edges and corners;
  • At least four seat suspension points.

At the same time, you should not think that it is possible to ensure all such safety standards only by buying a swing for kids in a store. In general, if you have the right tool and minimal skills in handling it, you can make them yourself, including from a variety of improvised materials available in every household.

Varieties of swings for kids

In general, swings for kids can be outdoors, but home options are much more popular, as they allow you to always keep the child under control and provide him with a pleasant and useful pastime at home at any time of the year. A swing for children under three years old can be:

The materials used in the construction of swings for babies can be very diverse, but it is not recommended to use wood anywhere, with the exception of pillars and other purely structural elements.

Seats are best made of fabric or plastic.

On the crossbar in the house for children under 5 years old

This block is more designed for you to understand how to make a crossbar for hanging a children's swing in an apartment. However, we will consider the installation of the seat. If you can make the crossbar yourself, then all that remains is to choose one of the design options (or use ours).

The procedure will be as follows:

  1. Start making your home swing by assembling the seat. To do this, you will need 7 multi-colored tubes 300 mm long and two 300 mm mounts for them, as in the photo below. Insert the tubes into the slots. Thus, the square base for the seat will be ready. If you don't have these fasteners, use self-tapping screws to attach the tubes to each other.
  2. The second step is to install 4 vertical tubes on the sides of the swing, and already on top of them we put 4 more tubes in a square. By the same principle, we will install another tube for the back. In the end, you should get as in the photo.
  3. We do not additionally fasten the resulting structure with anything, since we will continue to use a rope. We pass the rope through the holes made in advance (as in the photo). As a result, you get a one-piece structure that can be hung. These recommendations are more suitable for assembling a purchased collapsible swing, however, you can use the advice in this article as a whole to do it yourself.
  4. The next step will be the direct installation of the crossbar for such a swing in an apartment or house. As a crossbar, you can use an ordinary piece of a round pipe with a cross section of not more than 30 mm. The length of the pipe depends on the distance between the walls in the place where you decide to install it. We recommend using narrow corridors or doorways.
  5. The pipe is attached to the walls with the help of two metal mortgages for the walls (it can also be called steel sheets 80x200mm with a thickness of 2-3mm). In mortgages, as well as in the wall, two holes with a diameter of 5 mm are drilled on each side and anchors are driven into them. And the pipe itself is directly inserted into a piece of a round tube with a diameter of 35 mm, which was previously welded to steel sheets.
  6. Next, you need to hang a children's home swing on the crossbar. This is done with the help of special fasteners, on which a rope from the seat is planted.
  7. You can wrap all the structural elements with densely stuffed bright patches of fabric and secure them to the swing with twine. Also put a cushion on the seat. The swing on the crossbar for the house is ready.

This crossbar will come in handy in the future - you can pull yourself up on it and also hang other swings when the child grows up.

The benefits of using tubes for seating will be most relevant for parents of the youngest children. Plastic pipes are an ideal material for structures intended for babies, because their weight and hardness are much lower than those of wood, and, moreover, metal. As a result, even an accidental impact with such a seat with full amplitude will not be able to harm the health of the baby.

From fabric for children from six months

This simple hanging outdoor swing will be perfect for relaxing on the site or in the country with a baby. You can make them in less than an hour, and if you have all the necessary materials prepared, the collection will take even less time.

From materials and tools you will need:

  • Two pieces of natural fabric 800 mm long;
  • Four wooden slats 300 mm long and 25 mm in cross section;
  • Sewing accessories;
  • Drill;
  • Rope for hanging;
  • Sandpaper;
  • Fasteners (anchor, carabiner).

The procedure for making a swing from fabrics for children with your own hands from scratch will be as follows:

1. Carefully sand the wooden slats with sandpaper until any corners, bumps and splinters disappear and drill holes in the rivers along the edges with a rope diameter;
2. Lay the cuts crosswise. At the same time, the width of the lower part of the cross should be half that of the upper one.
3. Sew the cuts so that they form a flap with loops and thread the prepared slats into them.
4. Pass the rope through the holes in the slats and tie. The height of the suspension will be controlled using nodes.
5. You can hang the swing from a tree or crossbar using such a ring. It is put on a pre-prepared carabiner, which, in turn, is attached to the anchor. How to do this, we have already described earlier in the article.
6. This design is ready for us - you can give your baby the joy and pleasure of outdoor recreation.

Children's swing from improvised materials

Our people have always been famous for their craftsmanship. The lack of cash did not discourage our ancestors, but on the contrary, it encouraged them to find non-standard solutions and use any materials at hand. Even the proverb is dedicated to this: "The need for inventions is cunning." And such ingenuity can be used in almost any business - for example, it was in Russia that they came up with many interesting options for how to make a children's swing from improvised materials with their own hands.

What can be used for such a swing

For various types of swings, you can use almost any unnecessary materials left in the household. First of all, this applies to ropes and boards - in the simplest cases, even such a set will be enough to mount a comfortable and simple children's swing from improvised materials. But with the proper level of ingenuity, anything can be used:

  • plastic pipes;
  • Metal constructions;
  • chains;
  • twine;
  • fabrics;
  • plastic items;
  • Tires.

And many many others. We will offer you a very original children's hammock swing, which will be very easy to make with your own hands from improvised materials, especially if you have unnecessary nets or just a large amount of twine.

Do-it-yourself wicker swing-hammock

Making a wicker hanging swing from improvised materials with your own hands is very simple. It is not even necessary to have a ready-made network or uniform threads. A hammock woven from a wide variety of shreds will look much more original. Of course, such an approach will require a long and thoughtful weaving of the network and the formation of the necessary pieces. Therefore, the construction of a hammock swing from improvised materials will be further considered, provided that the network is already ready (it is better to entrust the weaving to women, or even buy a ready-made one).

Step-by-step instructions for building a country swing for children from a ready-made network:

Curly swing

Modern children are quite difficult to surprise with the usual simple joys of life. They want to see something new and bright, and for many children, a simple swing has long been an object of dreams. However, a good, bright and unusual curly swing will surely be able to attract the attention of even the most spoiled tomboys.

What can be figured swing

Almost any swing can be figured - both suspended and balance beams or spring rocking chairs - it all depends, first of all, on the skill of their creator, the breadth of his imagination and the available means, tools and materials.

Some craftsmen create real masterpieces from car tires, while others carve works of art from wood, and still others simply order ready-made figured forged elements for a swing or other decor, trying to please their children.

The easiest way to create a figured swing is to cut out any interesting objects from wood - primarily cars, animals, airplanes, locomotives, and other vehicles. A schematic outline and proper painting will not require any specific skills, and the speed of all work will allow the child to get a wonderful and, possibly, completely unique attraction in a few days.

Do-it-yourself swing in the form of a horse

One of the easiest options is a spring swing. In most cases, they are always performed in figured form. The simplest option would be to create a spring swing in the form of a car or a whale, but in general, the creation technology will not be fundamentally different with almost any possible decorative figures.

We did not set out to tell you how to carve beautiful figures from wood or metal, we will only tell you the general principle of arranging a figured swing with an interesting design.

The general procedure is very simple (sizes from these swings):

About baby swing seats

The seat for a children's swing is one of the main elements, since the safety of the child directly depends on its design.

The most common and convenient material in all respects is wood - it does not have such a high mass as metal seats, which means it will do less harm if the swing is accidentally hit, if any.

In addition, often the seats can be combined. For example - a metal frame with wooden crossbars, on which the child will sit. In general, it is not recommended to make entirely metal seats without ventilation for children's swings, since such seats will be absolutely unsuitable for use in the cold season and, in general, will not be so comfortable for the baby.

For home swings, and even more so for small children, it is recommended that the seats be made of wood and sheathed with soft materials. Such seats are as safe as possible in operation, and also very bright.

For small children, swing seats made of PVC pipes can also be perfect. They can easily support the weight of a child up to five years old, while being the safest of all materials.

There are also full-fledged ready-made plastic swing seats that can be bought at various stores. Often, the purchase of such seats can be a good addition to the swings already assembled by yourself.

There is simply no unambiguous answer to the question “what to make a seat for a children's swing from”. Each of the existing options has its own advantages and disadvantages.

How to use the swing correctly

Proper operation of a children's swing is a guarantee of the safety of both the children directly riding and the people around them. Swings are a relatively dangerous attraction, as children can experience light overloads, sharp jerks and high speed on them. But proper operation will avoid any troubles and possible negative consequences.

In general, the general informal rules of operation are as follows:

  • Do not leave children under three years old unattended;
  • Children should be taught not to be in the "working area" of the swing;
  • Sick and unwell children, including those in a state of nervous stress, sadness, or vice versa - overexcitation, should not ride;
  • It is necessary to swing on a swing only in the direction that is set by their design;
  • The attraction must be checked regularly for structural defects, signs of wear and damage.

Painting a children's swing

The question of how to paint a children's swing is far from always worrying parents and relatives. But ignoring it is a serious mistake. First of all, painting is necessary due to the fact that modern paints are high-quality and reliable protective coatings that protect metal from corrosion, and wood from excessive wetting, rotting or destruction by various insects.

However, the main problem of unpainted children's swings lies in the field of psychology. Children physically need to provide a variety of colors in their daily lives, so bright colors will be an excellent stimulus for any baby to develop exactly the way his parents would like. Also, the painted swing will simply by itself be much better to attract children and, as a result, to occupy their leisure time, freeing up at least a drop of much-needed free time for parents.

In general, painting a children's swing should be based on the characteristics of each specific situation. In case you do not want to spoil the coating near the attractions, it is necessary to ensure its isolation - a plastic film will do just fine with it. In addition, painting imposes its additional restrictions - the paint used must not contain toxins that are prohibited or dangerous to children's health.

Alkyd paints can be used to achieve a bright, flashy glossy sheen with rich color.

Child safety rules

First of all, it should be noted that the designs of swings installed in public places must necessarily comply with the strict established state requirements for swings GOST R 52167-2012. So, one of the main generally accepted safety standards is the absence of rigid suspensions. Moreover, it was for this reason that a large number of Soviet playgrounds were dismantled.

In general, the safety factors are very diverse. Thus, security may depend on:

  • The presence of sharp corners and hard edges;
  • The quality and type of coverage around the swing;
  • care and maintenance;
  • General wear and tear;
  • specific type;
  • Ways to ride.

In general, for the children themselves, the rules for the safety of behavior are extremely simple - you should use the attractions only as provided for by their design, you should not lose your vigilance and generally be in the working area of the swing, regardless of whether someone rides them or not .

A few last words

Not every person has the necessary skills, enough time or effort, and, moreover, individual tools to take and at one point make a swing for themselves and their children. Therefore, in some cases it may be more convenient, faster, easier and more profitable to simply buy ready-made structures.

However, a swing made by yourself is much more pleasant to use. Yes, and the time spent on making them, you can spend with your children. We are sure that the child will definitely thank you and will smile sincerely!

A cushion chair for such a swing can be easily sewn from an old bedspread, however, it will not be as durable as, for example, wooden, and besides, it is better to protect it from moisture.

We go to the country to rest and work. We dream of lying in a hammock, drinking tea in the fresh air, but this is not enough for a child. Its energy requires intelligent use, and it is in our power to create the right conditions for this. A simple and practical way is to buy or build a swing with your own hands. So let's talk about what swings are, from what and how to build them.

  • Material
  • Building a wooden swing
  • Building together
  • A seat woven from a wicker with a back will provide children with a comfortable rest on a swing

    Children's outdoor swing: types

    When choosing a children's swing for outdoor summer cottages, parents are required to check them for absolute safety for the child. Consider what manufacturers offer us for our treasures.

    For the safety of the swing seat, it is necessary to provide a horizontal bar in front of the chair, which will provide protection for your child

    First of all, the swing is divided according to the material of manufacture. They can be wood, metal or plastic.

    Children's wooden swing for giving environmentally friendly, durable, easy to assemble and beautiful appearance. Impregnation of wood with a special composition increases the service life of products.

    An old skateboard is also suitable as a swing seat, because its board is very durable and hardy.

    You will have to tinker with such a wooden swing-airplane, but the result is worth it, your child will feel like a real pilot

    metal swings are among the most reliable and durable models. They can be forged, collapsible, welded. They weigh a lot, but this is justified by their strength and stability of the installation.

    Hanging swing, the seat of which is made of metal rings, will become a real decoration of your yard

    For a children's swing, it is possible to use any options as a seat, for example, part of a ski lift

    Plastic designed for the little ones. Light and bright, they are great for babies under the age of 5, but they are afraid of winter frosts and fade in the sun.

    For babies, a fabric seat with a perimeter enclosing structure will be comfortable and safe, where the child will feel confident

    Swings are also distinguished by the type of construction: suspended and frame.

    A frame-type swing in the form of a red wooden sofa is a bright accent for your site

    Frame, of course, it is preferable for children, because they are highly stable, they can be freely moved to different parts of the site, they are durable and safe enough to use.

    A swing that is simple in shape can be made special - a little imagination and boring seats have turned into bright little animals that will be much more interesting for your children to play with.

    Suspended Models are simple, do not require special skills to assemble. To equip them, you need a carrier beam, a strong rope and a board for the seat. It is desirable that she had a back.

    By choosing bright colors for the swing, you can even more cheer up the children.

    Car tires can be great material for children's swings if you apply fun coloring to them.

    Swing chairs Designed for kids up to 3 years old. They are usually low, with a soft back and a seat in the form of a deck chair.

    Chaise lounge with soft seats - a safe swing option for a small child

    All these models can be purchased in stores, but if you decide not to spend money and build a children's swing for a summer residence with your own hands, we will help you.

    Material

    Of the materials for structures with supports, there are two options: metal and wood. Unfortunately, a children's metal swing for a summer residence will require special skills from you. If you are not a blacksmith or a welder, building a metal frame will be problematic. Yes, and pipes for supports will also have to be looked for.

    To make such a swing, you will need quite a bit: a wooden chair and chains - and a unique decor for your yard is ready.

    Children's swings are not particularly demanding on design. The main thing for children is movement, and a rope suspended from a thick tree branch with a board for sitting can also provide it.

    The best solution that any parent can do is to build a wooden swing.

    Building a wooden swing

    The simplest design is a children's hanging swing for giving without a frame. It's great if you have a large tree with a low thick bough on or near the site. They threw two ropes over it, built a seat from improvised means - and the swing is ready. As a seat, you can use tires traditionally loved by summer residents, a high chair, an abandoned skateboard, a piece of board, an old ice rink. In general, everything that, in your opinion, is suitable for a comfortable ride for a child.

    The easiest way to organize a swing is to use a tree branch as a base

    In such a round swing on a soft pillow, tied to the base, so as not to “fly away”, it will be pleasant to spend time not only for children, but also for adults

    For the construction of a frame swing, we first determine the place. It should be close to the house, but away from the fence and trees. Then we need lumber and tools. We choose conifers, but others are also possible, the main thing is that the tree is dry, durable, without defects. We carry out preliminary processing of wooden parts: we clean, grind, process with a special compound to increase moisture resistance. For the swing we need:

    The beautiful and durable design of the swing chair will not leave indifferent not only children, but also adults

    • two pillars
    • rope (about 6 m)
    • crossbar
    • ring-shaped pendants (hooks are possible)
    • fasteners
    • For the stability of the frame, the side supports can be made in the shape of the letter "L"

      Advice! Please note that nails are not suitable for attaching swing parts, it is better to take bolts.

      With your own hands you can build such a hanging swing-bed, where your children will play

      From the tool we take a shovel, hammer, drill, tape measure, planer, grinder, paint and brushes. Well, the springboard for work is ready. Let's move on to step-by-step design.

      To create such a wonderful swing, you only need an old chair, a rope and bright paint.

      • We carefully clean the place under the swing from debris and level the site.
      • We dig two holes for poles to a depth of 90-100 cm.
      • Before installing the pillars in the pits, we will process the lower part, about 50 cm, with tar. This is how we keep them from rotting.
      • We fasten the crossbar to the posts. It is desirable that the diameter of the crossbar coincide with the diameter of the pillars.
      • We mount metal parts using special fasteners. They can be purchased at the store.
      • We process sharp corners with a grinder.
      • We fasten ropes or chains to the crossbar, checking their reliability with their own weight.
      • We tie the ends of the ropes to the seat, having previously drilled holes in it.
      • U-shaped children's outdoor swings with greenery at the uprights provide shade and aesthetics for this simple design.

        We got the letter "P".

        Advice!For kids, it is better to attach seatbnot two ropes, but four. To do this, take two lengths for each rope, fold in half, and thread the ends into the seat.

        If this option bothers you, you can build a more stable structure by taking four pillars for the frame and placing them in the form of a block letter "L". The sequence of work is almost the same, only you will need to dig four holes, cut off the tops of the pillars at an angle, connect them with metal parts. Between the pillars, below, at a height of about 50 cm, stiffeners should be nailed on both sides of the swing. This design creates opportunities for creating a real children's summer cottage. By increasing the distance between the posts, you can nail a long bar and add a rope or climbing ladder to the swing.

        Children's wooden swings for summer cottages are environmentally friendly, durable and easy to assemble

        Swing-bed for rest and entertainment of a child, made of a wooden pallet

        Building together

        Now you know how to make a children's swing in a wooden cottage on your own.

        Original children's bright swing, the seat of which is made of fabric with rubber bands

        A funny swing in the form of a deer will bring joy to every child

        If the first experience does not disappoint you, do not stop there. The child is growing, or maybe you are planning the birth of a second baby, and swings alone will not be enough. Build children's swings and slides in the country together with neighbors in the area or with friends. Maybe among them there will be metal craftsmen, and then you will get an eternal swing for children of any age.

        Multi-colored swing baskets will not only bring joy to children, but also noticeably transform your yard

Swings have always been in great demand. Yes, this is understandable, because children and adults love to ride them very much. In the article we will tell you how to make them correctly in the country, consider various materials (metal, wood), and also demonstrate photo and video instructions.

Today there are many constructive variations of these structures. We break them down into 3 categories:

  • Baby. This group includes a swing like a chair with pendants and original boats. The frame is always made in accordance with the safety scheme. For very young children, seat belts should be provided.
  • Family. Most often they are massive structures like a bench with a large back. On such structures the whole family can fit at once. They are fixed on a U-shaped frame, using cables or strong chains. If a roof is made over them, then you can swing even when it rains.
  • Mobile - easy and quick to carry, as well as install in a convenient place, for example, on a veranda, in a gazebo or at home.

Diversity

  1. The hammock type of structures is hung on a crossbar, for example, on a tree. This design allows you to soar above the ground. They will appeal to people who are passionate about reading books. They can withstand weight up to 200 kg.
  2. Suspended is a seat with several ropes attached to the sides. Today they are made light, comfortable and durable. The sizes and shapes of such structures are different.
  3. Single - these are all variations that do not need additional crossbars. Such structures can be quickly installed anywhere. They are made from a wide variety of materials.
  4. Swing chairs can accommodate two adults and one child. They can even be placed in a room, because they have only one point on which they are attached. They are made from a special metal alloy. Outwardly, the sun loungers are airy, but in fact they are very durable.

To make metal structures, you need to prepare the following set of tools and materials:

  1. Welding machine with electrodes.
  2. Container for mixing solution.
  3. File / skin for metal.
  4. Ingredients for mixing the solution: water, cement, crushed stone, sand.
  5. Bulgarian for cutting metal elements.
  6. Fasteners: bolts and nuts.
  7. Bolt wrenches.
  8. Metal pipes.
  9. Shovel.

First, cut the pipes:

  • Side racks 2 m long - 2 pcs.
  • Crossbar 1.5–2 m long - 1 pc.
  • For the base, 2 pipes on each side (arbitrary length).

After cutting the pipes, remove the burrs on them. This can be done with a sandpaper for metal / a file. The pipes forming the base of such a structure must be welded at an angle of 45º, as shown in the diagram. Then weld the crossbar at right angles to the uprights.

Dig 2 trenches with a depth of 80 cm and a width corresponding to the resulting tripod in our case. The distance between them should correspond to the width of the crossbar. Supports (tripods) will be inserted into these trenches. Before the support pillars are laid in the trenches, make a 10-20 cm sand cushion, compact the sand. Set up the tripods and fill them with concrete. It must be done on the basis of a ratio of 1: 2: 1 - cement - sand - crushed stone. Add water to this mixture. You should get a homogeneous, not too liquid mass.

The concrete should cure for a week.

After that, hooks can be welded to the crossbar, on which the seat will be fixed on cables / metal beams. Weld the seat to the metal beams, fix the seat. The finished structure can be painted.

Consider the technological sequence of manufacturing a wooden structure that several children can sit on. Dimensions can be reduced / increased if necessary. Pine, spruce or birch wood can be used as starting material. So, you will need:

  • boards with a section of 100 × 25 mm, length 2.5 m - 15 pcs.;
  • board with a section of 150 × 50 mm, length 2 m - 1 pc.;
  • self-tapping screws 52 × 3.5 mm - 250 pcs.;
  • carbine - 6 pcs.;
  • welded chain 5 mm thick, length equal to height;
  • galvanized screws: 2 pcs. - 12 × 100 mm and 2 pcs. – 12×80 mm.

When choosing screws, pay attention to color. If you choose them to match the wood, then they will be invisible on the finished structure, and to give a special effect, it is better to choose self-tapping screws in contrast.

From the tools you need to stock up:

  • square;
  • drill with a set of drills;
  • tape measure;
  • circular saw;
  • pencil;
  • planer;
  • hacksaw;
  • hammer.

Following a plan makes it easier to get the job done right. Therefore, before starting to make a swing, prepare its project.

If you find it difficult to decide, then check out the drawings and diagrams at the end of the article. Remember that the design for children and adults is different.

Make blanks of 1.5 m, cut at an angle of 90º. For sitting, use a board having a thickness of 20 mm. In this case, the thickness of the board for the back can be in the range of 12–13 mm. For the design we proposed, you need to make a seat, for which you will need 17 planks 50 cm long and 15 planks 45 cm wide.

To prevent wood from cracking when tightening self-tapping screws, pre-drill thin holes in the parts to be joined.

If you want to make a more comfortable back, then make it curly. To do this, you will need to use a board of the largest thickness - 150 × 50 mm. You should have 6 blanks. With a pencil / marker, draw the outline of the shape of the workpiece.

Determine the angle of the backrest. Planks should be fastened with the same pitch. To screw them evenly, fasten the ends on both sides, and then in the middle. To swing more comfortably, make armrests. For these purposes, a beam of any width will do. One end of it must be screwed to the back frame, and the other to the seat.

Then you can attach the chain to the frame. It is best to do this to the bottom of the armrest, where it connects to the seat. The other end of the chain is attached to the top of the frame base on the back. Secure the chain with nuts and washers. Otherwise, the nut may enter the wood, thereby ruining its integrity. A special element with a ring on one side and a thread on the other should be fixed to the seat frame and to the crossbar.

After, you can connect the rings with a chain. It is better to fix the swing of the bench on the A-shaped rack. For support, it is important to use strong logs or make a metal frame. It all depends on you.

Support manufacturing

The A-stand or support is quite reliable and able to withstand significant loads. For work, you will need the same set of tools as for making a seat, if we are talking about a wooden stand.

Make two identical racks that are the same size. Ultimately, they will be installed at the distance you need, which depends on the width of the seat. Racks / supports are connected by a crossbar.

Accurately calculate the angle of connection of the vertical parts of the racks. At the top, the posts must be securely connected. Over time, they should not begin to diverge. Set the crossbar to 1/3 of the height of the support posts. For these purposes, use metal corners and screws. The crossbar must be installed on racks at the same height.

A single bar is usually installed at the top of the rack, but if you want to strengthen the structure, you can make two bars.

The structure should be installed in the ground. Dig holes up to 80 cm deep. Make a 20 cm gravel bed of sand. Insert the posts and fill them with concrete. To prevent rotting of the racks, they must be insulated before pouring. This can be done by impregnating or wrapping the wood with a waterproofing material, for example, roofing material.

If you are making swings for children, then make them safe. Eliminate sharp corners, and sand the wooden elements.

Simple

You still have a wooden pallet after the delivery of building materials, why not use it as a base? Agree that it is not difficult, and it does not cost much! All you need is a pallet, a strong rope and a tree trunk to hang the structure. You can make supports from strong pillars. How to do this will be discussed a little later.

The swing can be made from a single pallet, fixed on the sides with four ropes. Everyone can ride. If you want more coziness, then put a mattress on the pallet and cover it with a sheet, and put a few pillows on top. Now you can start reading in the shade of a tree, in addition, here you can take a break from the midday heat, lie down and even sleep.

If you have 2 pallets at your disposal, then you can create cute designs with a back. To achieve greater aesthetics, pre-clean the parts and sand them, and then fasten and paint (cover with a moisture-resistant varnish) the finished structure. Now your nondescript pallets have turned into a very attractive country swing!

"Boards" is the simplest idea. On the sides of the board, it is necessary to fix one more board so that the rope frays less, then drill 4 holes, put the ropes into them and tie them into strong knots. You can fix such a structure on a tree or a U-shaped support.

Another idea is with a rope. To do this, 4 grooves should be made in the board: 2 at the end and 2 along the edges closer to the corners. The board can be rectangular or semicircular. Although the grooves are open, the rope still does not jump out. The tension force only fixes the position of the rope, which makes the structure even more reliable.

Do you have an unsuitable snow board? Then use it instead of sitting! Drill holes in it and secure the ropes. Now it remains to hang the finished structure on a reliable support!

Do you have old tires? Do not rush to throw them away, because you can build a wonderful swing for children from them! To do this, you will need a tire and a rope. If you want to create some kind of special shape, improve tire structures, then you will need a sharp cutting tool, such as a construction knife. You can paint the tire to make it even more fun. For best results, you can draw a model of the structure on paper or mark the cut points on the tire itself. Below are the implementation ideas from tires.

If there are 2 small round logs lying around in your yard, then level them, clean and tie them together with a strong rope, and then tie them with a sea knot to a support.

We select the material

The above-mentioned variations in the manufacture of the simplest swing implied the use of improvised materials. But, if you want to create a more sophisticated design, then you can use the right kind of wood and metal. It can be supplemented with a back and a crossbar placed in front, which will make it possible to secure operation.

The list of materials needed for manufacturing can be something like this:

  • Larch boards.
  • Self-tapping screws of different sizes.
  • Carabiners.
  • Chain for fastening.
  • Screws with rings.

To create a design, you will need a typical set of tools. It includes a drill with different sizes of drill bits. A hacksaw and a saw, a planer, a jigsaw, a hammer can be useful. For measurements, you will need a tape measure, a square, chalk, or, perhaps, a pencil, a marker.

It is better that the structures are installed in a shady place, under a roof or a tree. If a canopy is not provided, then in bad weather they must be covered with a protective film.

If you want to create a stable support, then you should definitely dig four pillars into the soil to a depth of about 80 cm. Subsequently, they will need to be concreted, then connect the racks and the crossbar. If you chose metal pipes as racks, then they need to be connected using a welding machine. If you use wooden supports, then before installing them, you should treat the material with an antiseptic. Connect them with bolts and nuts. To make the seat, prepare 2 frames that will serve as the back and seat. Attach the plywood, and then connect the frames at an angle of 120˚.

Now it is necessary to attach special hooks or staples to the seat, which will allow chains, cable or ropes to be passed through them. In this state, the swing can be suspended from the crossbar. Please note that the feet of a seated person should touch the ground with their toes. In fact, country swings can be very diverse, here, perhaps, it all depends on the power of your imagination.

The main thing is that when creating this garden item, you can ensure its safety, reliability and durability. Add some creativity to the product: decorate it, use an unusual object as a seat.

We mount the fastening mechanism

In order to hang the seat to the crossbar, you need to attach special hooks or brackets to it. If you decide to use cables as a suspension, then you will need clamps. Pull a cable, rope or chain through the holes. It is better to use chains with large links. This is due to the fact that they are more durable, not afraid of bad weather and temperature changes. Chains, among other things, perfectly decorate landscape design.

It is better, of course, that the seat be with a back, while the suspension plays a less important role.

The place where the suspension will be fixed should be especially reinforced. If your seat is wooden, then decorate it with pillows, pull up an awning or put a mattress. All these details will only improve your rest and rest of your children.

Swings are an integral part of leisure. You will never regret the effort spent, because your building will delight the family throughout the summer season!

Have you already worked on the creation of such a design? What ideas have you been able to bring to life? Maybe you had difficulties in the manufacturing process? What helped you deal with them? Write comments to the article, we appreciate your work and experience!
