Czech vapor barrier "Yutafol": overview, specifications, lineup. Overview of Jutafol vapor barrier films Additional Juta accessories for fixing the vapor barrier

UTAFOL H 110 The standard consists of three layers: the main one is a reinforcing mesh made of polyethylene strips, and two outer layers made of polyethylene film. On the surface of the film, about 12 cm from the edge, there is a black stripe that indicates the recommended overlap area and the vapor-tight performance of the film.

Reinforcing mesh gives strength to the material, double-sided lamination provides waterproofing properties and vapor permeability.

Heat resistance of the material - up to +80 degrees Celsius, frost resistance - up to -40 degrees. The vapor barrier film, due to the raw materials included in its composition, has a long service life, i.e. no less than the applied roofing. In addition, it is not subject to rotting, mold, does not lend itself to pests and does not adversely affect health.

Application

UTAFOL H 110 Standard - designed to create a vapor-tight barrier on the inner surface of the thermal insulation of sloping and flat roofs and in case of insulation of the outer walls of the object.

It contributes to a large extent to the preservation of the long-term function of thermal insulation by preventing the penetration of water vapor from the internal space of the object into the thermal insulation, which reduces the condensation of water in the layers of thermal insulation.

At the same time, it protects roofing and other structures from heat loss and leaks, retains heat in the interior and protects against the adverse effects of wind

Mounting

UTAFOL H 110 Standard film can be attached both horizontally and vertically from the inside of the thermal insulation to load-bearing wooden elements with staples of a mechanical stapler or galvanized nails with a flat head. The recommended overlap area of the roll web is indicated by a black bar. The size of the overlap should not be less than 10 cm, both vertically and horizontally.

Film UTAFOL H 110 Standard can be used by either side. Separate strips of the roll must be hermetically connected not only to each other, but also to adjacent structures or to prominent building elements using tapes - connecting YUTAFOL SP 1 and sealing YUTAFOL TP 15. Attaching a vapor-proof film to dormer windows should be carried out according to the recommendations of their manufacturers. After installing the film, it is necessary to attach the rails so that the ceiling itself does not reach the vapor barrier.

If the above connection method is not observed, the effect of preventing the penetration of water vapor is reduced, dampening of the thermal insulation, thermal bridges and unwanted condensation occur.

It is strictly forbidden to connect the UTAFOL H 110 Standard vapor barrier film with tapes and sealants with an adhesive layer of acrylate, silicone or polyurethane.

When installing the vapor-proof film UTAFOL H 110 Standard, to install plasterboard or decorative material, it is recommended to use wooden slats or other profiles so that the holes from the fasteners remain in these materials, and not in the layers of the film.

Vapor barrier Yutafol is an advanced brand from the Czech manufacturer of polymeric materials Juta. It is a reinforced and perforated film used to protect building structures and insulating layers from water vapor. The exact functions depend on the type of brand, it is extremely important to choose it correctly: the Yutafol series is represented by materials with different densities and structures, and each variety has its own purpose. Another nuance of working with this vapor barrier is the fulfillment of all the requirements of the instructions.

This brand is recommended to be purchased for flat and pitched roofs from the inside. The film itself has good insulating parameters, such a vapor barrier seals and protects the space from heat loss. The manufacturer allows the use of Yutafol as a protective layer between the siding and the wall for external insulation of objects. The properties of the vapor barrier allow the use in residential and unheated premises, horizontal, inclined and vertical installation is possible.

The service life coincides with most building materials for roofing, Yutafol vapor barrier film is not subject to biological threats and is safe for health. It is combined with mineral and stone wool, polystyrene insulation. A prerequisite for operation is the closure from ultraviolet radiation.

Overview of insulation types and characteristics

1. Yutafol N 96 Silver.

A single-layer film made of polypropylene with high strength, designed for installation on the inner surfaces of the under-roof attic space (covers structures and insulation from water vapor). Used on flat and pitched roofs. Another option for using Juta Yutafol H 96 Silver is to create a protective barrier against wind and moisture when insulating external walls. This is the cheapest type of Jutafol vapor barrier films, the cost of 1 m2 does not exceed 20 rubles. Belongs to the group of combustible materials.

2. Yutafol H 110 Standard.

A three-layer material with a reinforced base made of interlaced polyethylene strips. The scope of application is the same as the previous brand, but this variety is denser and provides better tightness and protection. H 110 The standard is optimal in terms of strength and insulation characteristics and cost. The only drawback is the low fire resistance group.

3. H 110 Special.

Three-layer vapor barrier made of polypropylene with reduced flammability due to the introduction of self-extinguishing chemicals. It has similar characteristics and properties to Jutafol H 110 Standard, but due to compliance with fire safety standards and, therefore, a wider scope of use, it costs 20% more. In appearance, these varieties are indistinguishable (a roll with a black stripe to indicate the approximate overlap), grades H 110 have a common instruction for use.

4. H AL 170 Special.

Four-layer film with enhanced vapor barrier properties and a reflective aluminum foil coating. In addition to the main purpose (vapor barrier of pitched and flat roofs from the inside) it is used in rooms with high humidity. It is also recommended to buy it for installation as a base in heating systems of the "warm floor" type. It has the ability to keep warm in rooms, the degree of reflection of infrared rays reaches 97%.

Of all the Yutafol films, this variety is the most durable, the specific gravity reaches 170 g / m2. The application temperature varies from -40 to +90 °C. The composition includes self-extinguishing additives, the material complies with fire safety standards. As a result, this brand is also the most expensive, the price is at least 4 times higher than Yutafol H 96 and twice - H110. The high cost is explained by more reliable protection of structures from water vapor, a film with foil is 4.5 times more effective than reinforced polyethylene.

For comparison, the technical characteristics of the vapor barrier are summarized in the table:

Pros and cons of vapor barrier

The benefits of this brand include:

  • Reliable protection of the surface of roofs or under-roof space from water vapor, condensate, fungus and mold.
  • Extending the service life of building structures.
  • Sufficient tensile and tensile strength, resistance to external influences.
  • Compliance with sanitary and hygienic standards (all Yutafol products are certified).
  • Easy installation of vapor barrier.
  • Affordable cost.

The disadvantages, in addition to the standard low resistance of polyethylene to ultraviolet radiation, include certain restrictions in laying. High tightness has a downside, the material does not remove moisture and is not recommended as a layer of roofing cake in warm rooms. The single-layer version of Yutafol has a slightly heterogeneous structure and is not used in critical facilities. Some reviews note such a drawback as microcracks on the surface. In general, Jutafol is a fairly reliable and affordable vapor barrier with a specific scope.

Installation nuances

Three-layer films from Utafol have a black stripe along the edges, this marking indicates vapor tight performance and is used to determine the amount of overlap required. This line recedes by 12 mm - a mandatory minimum. According to the Yutafol vapor barrier installation manual, the material can be laid on either side. The process of fastening the vapor barrier begins after the placement of the heat-insulating layer and the treatment of wood with antiseptics.

The film is unwound over the insulation and fixed to the supporting elements with a stapler or galvanized nails with a wide head. It is allowed to fasten the vapor barrier to wood, plastic, metal or glass using a special connecting tape of the same company. The material is protected from damage, laid tightly, but without stretching. It is recommended to hide any holes and defects with the same tape.

Film overlap is a prerequisite for the installation of this vapor barrier, the same applies to sealing separately placed strips and edges. Yutafol is also attached to adjacent structures and passing elements with adhesive tapes: ordinary - for a reinforced variety, with aluminum foil - for a reflective one. It is not recommended to use building materials from other companies; the composition of the connecting tapes should not contain acrylate, silicone, polyurethanes or substances that destroy the polypropylene film.

Leaks and extra holes are avoided whenever possible. In particular, when placing the outer skin, the crate is not attached to the vapor barrier, but to the load-bearing elements of the walls or roof. If there is a risk of damage to the material, it is worth considering laying an additional layer - geotextile. When installing a reflective variety of Yutafol, a mandatory gap is left to remove condensate within 4-6 mm, ignoring this rule leads to the loss of useful properties of the vapor barrier.

Jutafol cost

Modern vapor barrier Yutafol today is known to almost everyone who has ever encountered construction in their lives. Its main task is to prevent the penetration of water vapor and reduce the condensation of water in thermal insulation, and such films remarkably protect the roof structure from heat loss.

And they also delight the buyer with their diversity and a certain “sharpening” for their specific task: where to protect it from steam as much as possible, where, on the contrary, to skip it a little, and where even to additionally prevent heat loss with the help of an additional reflective layer. Let's explore their features and benefits, shall we?

The most common doubt that buyers of Juta films have is that, according to the majority, all manufacturers order polyethylene from China, and only then building insulation is made from them, and therefore even Czech quality may be in question. Do not worry: unlike many other brands, the company itself often emphasizes that in production it uses exclusively virgin raw materials, which ensure such good quality of vapor barrier films, and these raw materials are exclusively “Czech”, without the use of third-party materials.

Many buyers note that the films really look, albeit uncomplicated, but of high quality! Simply, unlike the direct competitor of Utah Izospan, packages with vapor barrier look simple here: just plastic bags with a leaflet, although the film itself looks quite strong, Jutafol is written along the entire length of the roll. In addition, there are almost always only positive reviews about Juta vapor barrier, and in unofficial forum ratings, among affordable insulation, it is Jutafol that takes first place.

Why should you trust this company? Firstly, Juta is one of the largest European manufacturers of polymer products for a wide variety of applications. This company appeared in the second half of the 19th century and was at first a small enterprise for the production of fabrics and bags from vegetable raw materials - jute, from where the name of the company itself came from. Soon, polymeric materials replaced vegetable materials, and since the seventies, Utah began to produce roofing vapor and waterproofing films for construction, plus much more. And today it has many factories in the Czech Republic, where modern equipment and technologies are used, plus its own laboratory tests and evaluation by independent certification centers. Juta products are exported to many countries of the world, including Russia. Today, the representative of the Utah company and its distributor is the closed joint-stock company "Effect-Eco".

Juta wisely divides all of its insulating films and membranes into groups with different names so that the buyer will never confuse windproofing with waterproofing: Yutacon, Yutavek and Yutafol. The last group is just a vapor barrier, which is represented by several unique solutions that you will find at different points of sale with the old Yutafol prefix and the new Vapor Barrier:

As you noticed, even in appearance they differ significantly from each other, what then to talk about properties! That is why we have prepared for you detailed illustrations with the technical characteristics, advantages and installation features of each of them.

Yutafol H90: to maintain the microclimate

Yutafol H90 film is a classic vapor barrier from Yutafol. Reinforced, with a green joint strip, strong enough and budget enough to easily win a leading position in the market. This vapor barrier is intended for vapor barrier of the heat-insulating layer of the under-roof space in flat and pitched roofs. It is well suited for rooms where there are high requirements for saving the heat and humidity microclimate.

Yutafol H90 is produced in the form of a three-layer material, with a reinforcing mesh made of polypropylene fibers, which is laminated on both sides with polyethylene. Compatible with all types of insulation. And this vapor barrier should be mounted with slight tension and fastened with brackets, or on double-sided adhesive tape.

Yutafol H96 Silver: high tensile strength

The Yutafol H 96 Silver vapor barrier is designed to create an impenetrable layer on the surface of the thermal insulation and looks like this:

This is the so-called bag fabric, which sometimes surprises vapor barrier buyers. It is made of polypropylene threads, which are additionally laminated at a special temperature with a low-density polyethylene melt. As a result, the thickness of this product reaches 20 microns. But, unfortunately, the minus of such a vapor barrier is that it has insufficient vapor barrier qualities due to the fact that the polyethylene itself melts unevenly during production, and initially it has an uneven base for this task. And therefore, as a waterproofing of a cold roof, such a vapor barrier is great, but as a vapor barrier it is a bit weak.

Here is an interesting video review of this film, where the seller claims that Yutafol H96 is still slightly vapor permeable:

If you do not strive to make a “thermos” with non-breathing walls out of the attic, and are not going to organize a bathroom or kitchen in the attic, then such a film is 100% suitable! Here is how the Yutafol H 96 Silver film is installed on the slopes:

The finished result is neat and reliable, the main thing is not to spare the vapor barrier adhesive tape! We will tell you about their types at the end of the article.

Yutafol H110 Standard: for most applications

More durable and versatile film Yutafol H 110 Standard consists of three layers of reinforcing mesh, which is soldered from polyethylene strips, and laminated on both sides with polyethylene film. This is a modern classic of most film vapor barriers. As you may have guessed, the reinforcing mesh is designed to give strength to the material, and double-sided lamination provides the necessary vapor barrier. Its marking strip is red (green for Yutafol H90) and on the film itself there is an inscription “Vapor barrier”:

In fact, such a vapor barrier is produced by a reinforced polymer mesh made of twisted thread. In the factory, such a mesh is connected using a special technology of heat and pressing, and at the same time, microcracks will be noticeable where the mesh is connected to the film. Here they are just and many are worried: but will steam leak out? Yes, and in fact, such microcracks do not affect the mechanical and waterproofing qualities of the material, but they do slightly worsen the vapor barrier characteristics. That's why the buyers here are 100% right: this is a significant minus of Yutafol N 110 Standard with all its pluses.

Such vapor barrier is valued mainly for its strength. You will certainly be interested to see some amateur experiments with the strength of insulating films. Here is a great example of how Yutafol H110, after a long exposure to the sun and wind, still retains its integrity:

Installation of Yutafol H110 Standard is also quite simple, because the reinforced base does not allow the film to stretch too much or tear in the process. This vapor barrier is loved by the people because the film itself lays down evenly, does not sag anywhere, does not hang out and is easily stretched. In addition, experienced roofers advise to fix this vapor barrier with a hammer stapler.

Yutafol H110 Special: with self-extinguishing agent

Yutafol N Special is different in that this film has reduced flammability, because a self-extinguishing reagent is introduced inside the material:

Thanks to the high-quality raw materials used in Yutafol Special, such a film serves no less than the roofing itself, and over time it does not rot, mold, or be exposed to pests, and does not affect the health of people living inside the attic.

And you can’t do without it if pipes from stove heating run on the roof slopes, which, unfortunately, often cause a fire. The main thing in this case is to properly seal the joints of the vapor barrier with the necessary adhesive tape:

On the surface of Yutafol N Special there is a black strip, 12 cm from the edge, which helps with installation.

Yutafol N AL Special (R110): with reflective layer

The Yutafol N AL film differs from other types of vapor barriers of this manufacturer by a reflective aluminum layer. It has increased vapor-permeable properties, because, as you know, aluminum serves as an almost 100% vapor barrier and at the same time has a heat-reflecting function. As you may have guessed, the value "H AL" implies an aluminum reflective layer. A more advanced version of N AL Special is produced with the R110 marking, but its characteristics are the same:

Yutafol N AL Special and its more modern version R110 are indispensable for installing underfloor heating and vapor barrier in rooms with a large source of water vapor, like a sauna and a bath. And their whole secret is in the presence of four layers:

  • reinforcing mesh made of polyethylene strips;
  • two laminating layers on both sides of the mesh;
  • reflective aluminum layer.

The only inconvenience in working with such a vapor barrier is that only a special tape is suitable for gluing its canvases. You can install Yutafol N AL both in horizontal stripes, as in a schematic image, and vertical, as in a step-by-step master class:

In addition, Yutafol N AL, thanks to the aluminum layer, serves as an excellent vapor barrier for the ceiling, because it reflects heat and water vapor does not condense on the finish:

Yutafol VAP: smart membrane with SD control

Another interesting new generation product from Juta is the breathable vapor barrier membrane Jutafol VAP. It has been specially designed for houses with variable humidity and has limited steam capacity. It is slightly higher than that of ordinary polyethylene films, but significantly lower than that of vapor barrier membranes:

Yutafol VAP allows partially passing wet steam into the outer layer of the roof, from where it easily escapes. Therefore, the water vapor diffusion resistance coefficient is from 3 to 12. Ie. such a membrane controls, in fact, the activity of the movement of water molecules at different indicators of humidity and temperature, due to which the formation of condensate and dampness is completely prevented. Also, such a membrane can be combined with super diffuse membranes to further improve the indoor climate.

And to understand what exactly is meant, let's understand a little about the concept of SD. We are talking about the coefficient of resistance to diffusion of water vapor and the thickness of this resistance. The fact is that with a temperature difference outside and inside a residential building, a natural convective transfer of air masses occurs. In other words, from a warm room, a warm flow will always tend to a cooler external environment, especially if there are joints and poorly sealed vapor barrier overlaps.

This movement is due to the difference in partial pressure. In any air, in addition to oxygen and carbon dioxide, there is also gaseous water invisible to the eye. And in every air it has its own pressure, and even in two adjacent living rooms under the same roof, this pressure can be different.

The greater the partial pressure of the vapor, the more water in the air, and the greater, respectively, its humidity. And if there is some kind of connection between these two rooms - seams or cold bridges - then the partial pressure will tend to equalize, as well as the temperature difference itself. Those. water vapor will always pull into a drier room until this difference disappears. That's just the SD coefficient and measures this concept. And far from always the same attic needs to be vapor-insulated “tightly”:

Vapor barrier Yutafol VAP is technically compatible with all manufacturers of mineral and basalt thermal insulation. But it cannot be used in rooms with high temperature and high humidity, like a bath or sauna, or when a hydrobarrier was laid in the roofing pie, and not a superdiffusion membrane, and then the residual moisture simply cannot come out.

Additional Juta accessories for fixing the vapor barrier

Not everyone knows that Yutafol vapor barrier films can only be connected with branded connecting tapes, and in no case with adhesive tape with an acrylic, silicone or polyurethane layer!

And now let's figure out how to properly fix the Yutafol vapor barrier, and what the manufacturer himself offers for this task:

  • Yutafol SP1 is a double-sided adhesive tape that is especially good for joining with protruding parts, for all roofing elements that pass through the film. In addition, such a tape fastens the vapor barrier not only to wooden structures, but also to metal ones, because it is made of special butyl rubber. Also, with the help of this particular tape, corner knots are sealed.
  • Adhesive tape Yutafol SP AL, as the name implies, is a one-sided adhesive tape, which also consists of synthetic rubber, but is additionally covered with a reflective aluminum layer. Additionally, an adhesive material has been added to it, which greatly simplifies work with it.

Which of these tapes you need depends on which vapor barrier you choose and for what purpose. And the Czech manufacturer Juta does not stand still, and it is likely that in the near future we will study some other novelty for vapor barrier, with its innovative, unique properties!

In fact, you can lay the Yutafol film on absolutely any side, since both sides have the same protective coating - a polyethylene film.

Vapor barrier film Yutafol H 110 Special

Film Yutafol H 110 Special contains three layers:

Top and bottom layer of polyethylene film;
- in the middle there is a reinforcing mesh made of polyethylene strips;

Reinforcement increases strength characteristics, and double-sided polyethylene lamination creates a powerful vapor barrier, providing complete impermeability. The film Yutafol H 110 Special, unlike Silver, contains a special reagent that promotes self-extinguishing during ignition. Because of the reagent, the film received a B1 flammability class and is classified as a hardly flammable product. On the surface of the Yutafol H 110 Special vapor barrier with a distance of 12 cm from the edge, a black stripe is applied, indicating the recommended amount of overlap on the next layer when laying.

The JUTAFOL N 110 SPECIAL three-layer vapor barrier is a 110 g/m² vapor barrier that is designed to create highly effective vapor barrier layers on the inside of thermal insulation. The vapor barrier contributes to the long-term and correct operation of the thermal insulation. The vapor barrier must be overlapped and taped to subsequent layers. To connect the films, the manufacturer recommends using self-adhesive tape Yutafol SP 1 and SP AL to connect the foil layer.

Yutafol H 110 Standard specifications

Literally two words we will say about this material. The main difference between Yutafol H 110 Standard and the special series is characterized by the absence of an attenuation reagent. The remaining indicators, characteristics, properties and composition correspond to the series we have considered above. Slightly reduced roll weight and film density.

The scope of application coincides with the Yutafol H 96 Silver brand, but this material is denser and provides better tightness and protection. The H 110 Standard series is chosen as a rule if it is necessary to provide better strength and insulation characteristics compared to the Silver series. The negative point of the film is not a high fire resistance group.

Vapor barrier film UTAFOL N AL 170 Special

Film Yutafol N AL Special consists of four layers:

Two layers of polyethylene material laminate the mesh;
- the third layer in the middle in the form of a reinforcing mesh, made of polyethylene strips;
- the fourth aluminum foil layer with a reflective effect;

The reinforcing framework increases durability. Laminated on both sides and foil-coated aluminum layer, with appropriate flooring, contribute to an increase in vapor barrier values. In addition, the foil reflects thermal energy into the interior of the room, keeping precious heat in the winter.

Aluminum foil is designed to form a highly vapor-resistant layer on the inside of the thermal insulation. Yutafol N AL Special creates a vapor barrier and contributes to the long-term and proper operation of thermal insulation. Thanks to the built-in reflective aluminum layer, the vapor resistance is greatly increased. Maintaining an airless layer between the inside and the vapor barrier maintains the high function of the reflective layer.

Yutafol main functions

The membrane guarantees the prolongation of the optimal performance of thermal insulation in the buildings where they were used. Mainly maintaining the necessary process equilibrium values diffusion, while maintaining thermal resistance and giving waterproof properties to the structure.

Based on their characteristics, the membranes guarantee the release of the resulting steam into the external environment of the room. Thus, snow or rain blown by wind currents, as well as condensation accumulations, will not fall from the roof onto the laid thermal insulation.

The use of the membrane prevents moisture insulating materials, which favorably affects their properties. Humidity leads to the destruction of the material and an increase in thermal conductivity. Consequently, the films extend the warranty period of the thermal insulation. Apart from the fact that the air impermeability of the structure increases and heat leakage is reduced.

A common question that can be heard from buyers: which is better Isospan or Yutafol. Comparing these membranes, we can definitely say that they have the same purpose. However, it seemed to us that the Isospan material contains more information and installation instructions. However, Izospan is a little more expensive, but who will look at the price when the roof of our home is at stake? Believe me, the alteration will be much more expensive. Watch video:

Modern vapor barrier Yutafol today is known to almost everyone who has ever encountered construction in their lives. Its main task is to prevent the penetration of water vapor and reduce the condensation of water in thermal insulation, and such films remarkably protect the roof structure from heat loss. And they also delight the buyer with their diversity and a certain “sharpening” for their specific task: where to protect it from steam as much as possible, where, on the contrary, to skip it a little, and where even to additionally prevent heat loss with the help of an additional reflective layer. Let's explore their features and benefits, shall we?

Half a century of experience in the production of vapor barriers

  • reinforcing mesh made of polyethylene strips;
  • two laminating layers on both sides of the mesh;
