Do-it-yourself homemade from sewing machines. What can be done from an old sewing machine. Italian sewing machine Borletti

Do you know how many options for spectacular vintage furniture can be made from the base of an old sewing machine? Answer: many! But we chose the most interesting of them, because the table is an item that is needed in any home. On the other hand, a table made from an old sewing machine is the easiest vintage piece of furniture you can make yourself.

So. we will need a very old sewing machine with a pedal: Singer, Pfaff, Husqvarna and even Soviet-era models. They are united by the main thing that we need - a luxurious cast-iron base (legs), genuine vintage. The condition does not play a role, even a rusty one will do (if it is exactly like that, buy metal paint “directly on rust” and bring the base into a neat look).

Everything else is extremely simple. Remove the wooden part or just the typewriter, and attach what will become the countertop on top. And they can be different - depending on your preferences for materials and the size of the table.

We looked at a lot of options for tables from the base-legs from an old sewing machine and found out what can be done: a console table, serving or dining table, a table for a home office or garden. The best examples for inspiration are collected in this gallery - 45 table ideas from an old sewing machine.

We wish you successful finds and the realization of your Dream of vintage home interior furniture!

Here's what an old sewing machine might look like. Do you have one? Maybe one of your friends or relatives? When you see what wonderful vintage tables you can make from it, urgently go in search. And when you become its happy owner, do not limit yourself to the factory countertop - make your own, original. We have collected a lot of ideas on this topic.

console tables from an old sewing machine:

From the base of the sewing machine, you can make an original console table. Since this is the easiest, it is with such a table that we begin. As you know, a console table is a very compact version of the table that will fit in almost any corner that will be transformed thanks to such elegant vintage furniture. And on top you can place the necessary little things or just pleasing to the eye.

Lay a sheet of glass on top for a great addition to a classic living room. A top made of raw wood or planks will help create a rustic country style table. Paint the legs white and you have a charming vintage console. A black table with wrought iron legs will complete the interior in Moroccan style.

However, it is not necessary to put it in the living room. Complement an unusual base with wooden sides or glass in a shabby frame - you get a cute flower table that is appropriate both in the greenhouse and in the hallway. In addition, you can make a luxurious showcase for your collection from the base of the sewing machine (the easiest option is to strengthen it from above ... an aquarium turned upside down).

garden tables from an old sewing machine:

A table from a sewing machine can also be placed on the veranda as a flower stand. Turn on your imagination and paint the countertop in an unexpected color.

home office table from the base of the sewing machine:

How about an unusual sewing machine desk? If you prefer conciseness, you can get by with a simple board as a countertop. It, like the legs, can be painted in your favorite color. But if the soul requires frills, attach the top from the old bureau to the wrought iron base. You will have a thing worthy of the title of a family heirloom.

serving tables and kitchen islands from the base of the sewing machine:

Your home certainly deserves the best and most exclusive furniture. Including - in the kitchen or in the dining room. How about a serving table from the same old sewing machine? Make wooden sides or place a roomy wooden tray on top, attach wheels, and enjoy your new handy kitchen gadget. However, such a table does not have to be mobile - it will come in handy both as a kitchen island, and for storing dishes, and as a mini-bar in the dining room.

dining tables from old sewing machines:

The sturdy cast iron base of the sewing machine is the perfect base for a dining table. She is stable and effective. The compact countertop is slightly larger than the one that the typewriter had - an ideal option for a table for two in a small kitchen. The dark wood top makes this a classic table. If you plan to pair it with modern furniture, paint the countertop white or black. However, the countertop does not have to be wooden - it can be made of glass or, which is especially luxurious, of marble.

In every house there are a couple of unnecessary things that have long been out of order or not used for their intended purpose. For example, many inherited an old sewing machine. Do not rush to throw it away or hide it somewhere far away in cabinets and pantries. Let's look at a few ideas that will give cars a second life.

Metal cutting machine

If the machine has a working mechanism, it can serve as the basis for the machine. If it has a manual drive, then it is better to use an electric motor, if it is a foot drive, it will not be needed. Next, you need to remove the mechanisms of the sewing machine, assemble the cutting unit, install a device for fixing parts and bring electricity to the machine.

Attention! Before the first start-up, check all the details of the installation and observe the safety precautions.

For a kitchen or a summer veranda, a stylish piece of furniture from the base of an old typewriter and a table top made of wood or glass is suitable. You can use not one, but two beds, then the table will be larger and more stable, which are better placed closer to the edges.

A cast iron bed from a sewing machine can be used as a base for a barbecue. From above, you need to make a brazier from a metal sheet, which will be placed on the structure from the sewing machine. Thus, a good brazier is obtained, which will decorate any garden or summer cottage and will last for many years.

Important! In order for the metal to not corrode, it is recommended to coat it with fire-resistant paint.

From an old typewriter you can make an unusual desk for a vintage-style home. To do this, you only need its base and countertop. The legs of the new table can be painted in any color suitable for the interior, and the tabletop is easy to make yourself from the boards.

If the house lacks a comfortable dressing table, you do not need to order it in the store. Take a statin from a typewriter as a basis, attach a tabletop of the desired size to it, and under it we attach a plywood box for storing cosmetics and jewelry. All elements of a new piece of furniture, if necessary, need to be cleaned and painted in a suitable color, attach a handle to the box

A garden bench in a retro style will be an excellent solution for a summer residence or a country house. To do this, you need to take the legs from the sewing machine, and attach wooden seats on top. All painted and varnished.

From the bed you get good flower beds and stands for boxes, which will decorate any area or veranda.

A beautiful shell is fixed on top of the base of the sewing machine and you get an interesting piece in vintage style.

Important! If it is placed not just on legs, but on a wooden base, the piece of furniture will look even better.

A piece of furniture from the 19th century will be the highlight of any room for a girl. On the base of the machine you need to fix a ready-made or self-made locker.

Here you need imagination and direct hands. From an old sewing machine and additional spare parts, a very original product is obtained.

The original idea would be a lathe. It is necessary to design clamps for a wooden bar, the machine is set in motion with the help of legs.

It's simple, decorate the sewing machine and attach the lamp.

Other ideas

There are many ways to bring an old item back to life, so if you show your imagination, you can find practical and stylish solutions for your home interior or garden.

One of the most convenient stationary machines for figured sawing, it has a very simple design. Craftsmen make such devices from a wide variety of materials and tools. One of the most suitable bases for making a desktop jigsaw is a regular sewing machine. At the same time, the device does not have to be new or have an electric motor. In more detail about the principle of operation and the manufacture of a stationary jigsaw, we will describe later in the article.

The principle of operation of the jigsaw

Before proceeding with the study of the manual for assembling your own stationary apparatus for cutting, you should delve into its structure and a little, into the history of origin.

The first electric jigsaw was born in 1946, when engineer Albert Kaufmann had the idea to replace the sewing machine needle with a thin file. For its time, the invention was very original and received well-deserved public attention. Scintilla AG was engaged in the production and sale of jigsaws until it was bought by Bosch in 1954. To date, the patents for the invention have long expired and a wide variety of companies have begun to manufacture jigsaws.

Modern stationary jigsaws are functional devices assembled from precise and reliable parts. At first glance, the models presented for sale may seem incredibly difficult to manufacture, but they are based on the same old principle of operation, albeit with a more optimized mechanism. By assembling a jigsaw from a sewing machine, we are essentially returning to the origins of this invention, partially supplementing it with modern technologies.

The design itself, which tensions and drives the saw blade, is quite simple and consists of a special frame and a crank mechanism. The movable frame consists of upper and lower arms of equal length, fixed to the rack. A file is installed on the front side of the frame, and on the opposite side a spring that performs tension. To move the file up and down, makes the crank mechanism connected to the motor. A more visual and detailed embodiment of the above process can be seen in the following drawing.

Electric jigsaw from a sewing machine

The beauty of making a stationary jigsaw from a sewing machine lies in minimizing precise work. A reliable crank assembly is already connected to the needle mount, which is quite simply converted to a file. In fact, in order to retrain the device, it is necessary to arrange a tension mechanism on the opposite side of the installed saw blade. In detail about how to make a jigsaw from a sewing machine, we will tell and show further.

As an illustrative example, the Soviet sewing machine "Tula" with an electric drive will be redesigned. Based on this manual, it will be possible to convert most other old models into a machine. If you have a different machine (which is likely), the parts and their location may vary. In this case, the main thing is to approach the matter judiciously, with logic and use the tips below according to the circumstances. So, for work you will need:
  1. Sewing machine
  2. Nut with bolt (full thread)
  3. Spring or flexible metal plate (for tensioner)
  4. Metal corners (2 pcs.)
The components listed above do not claim absolute accuracy and are provided as a guide only. The dimensions of the required parts should be selected based on their capabilities, focusing on the examples in the video below.

By instruments:

  • Drill (with a set of drills for metal)
  • Bulgarian (with a disk for metal)
  • pliers
  • Screwdriver
At the first stage of assembly, it is recommended to remove all unnecessary elements from the sewing machine, leaving only the crank mechanism and the needle holder connected to it. To set the tension of the file, it is necessary to remove the shuttle located under the needle. If a motor is built into the housing, it should be left if it is to be used as the main drive. If the power of the regular one is not enough for you, you can remove it and connect a third-party electric drive.

If you will be using thin files, up to #2, for sawing, a standard hole in the top mount will suffice. For wider blades, a larger hole will need to be drilled.

The bottom mount can be made from a conventional bolt. To do this, you need a drill, a drill for metal by 3-4 mm, and a tap for threading this diameter. The resulting structure should look like this.

There are 2 types of sewing machine installation: above the table and under the table. In the variant we are considering, the device is located on top, when the tension mechanism comes from below. The author of the product abandoned the spring tension method in favor of a metal plate cut from a hacksaw blade. A hole drilled in the center of the plate serves as a place for attaching the saw blade. The strip of steel itself is installed in improvised grooves made from corners.

At this stage, the assembly of a homemade jigsaw machine from a sewing machine is considered complete. The device is able to easily cut wooden blanks up to 20 mm thick. With a more advanced tension system, a good spring, and a powerful motor, it can easily take higher values. The detailed assembly process, with the author's comments, is presented in the video below.

Altering the place where the needle is attached to the file

Far from everyone and not always there is a need to carry out only figured cuts. More often, a jigsaw is used to achieve controlled cuts of straight and round shapes. In such cases, a thin nail file will be too slow, but a standard jigsaw blade will cope with the task quite quickly. And everything would be fine, but only such a saw will not fit into a standard needle holder. So you need to reactivate the logical hemisphere and “pump” your homemade jigsaw machine from a sewing machine. To do this, by the way, is quite simple.

As an example, let's take a product from the following author, although this problem was also solved at the end of the previous guide. The answer lies in the stitching of the seat for tightening the needle. For this purpose, a grinder with a metal disc is used. The shank of the file itself also needs to be sharpened so that it passes into the hole in the fastener element with a bolt. Detailed examples are shown in the photo above, below, also in the video.

Other versions

If the above products did not suit you for any reason, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with two similar videos. Jigsaws from a sewing machine, assembled by the authors of the following materials with their own hands, have the same basis, but different implementation features. The following videos will be useful as a source of ideas for making your own unique machine.

Perhaps you have an old sewing machine lying around and covered with dust.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel "Vladimir Natynchik" will tell you how you can make a completely suitable and functional electric jigsaw from it.

This homemade machine will not require turning in the manufacture. All you need are screwdrivers and wrenches.

Materials.
- Old electric sewing machine
-
- Spray paint blue metallic
- Sheet plywood
- Bolts, nuts, washers M6
- Second glue, soda
- A pair of bearings, like these

Tools used by the author.
-
- Hacksaw
- Wrenches, screwdriver
-, wood drills.

Manufacturing process.
So, Vladimir found an old seagull sewing machine.

To make a machine out of it, you will have to remove the fabric feed mechanism and rotate the bobbin. Those bolts that were not unscrewed, the master warmed up with a gas burner. After such a procedure, everything is very easy to understand.

At the top of the mechanism, the author made a small revision, lubricated important components, and removed the regulators.

The old electrical wiring has also been replaced.

Then the master painted all the surfaces of the machine with blue metallic spray paint.

With painting, he hurried a little, the machine needs to increase the working stroke of the rod. After all, now the plywood will be cut, and the fabric will not be sewn together. He made a lining out of 20mm plywood and screwed it between the base and the top of the machine.

In order to avoid unwinding of the bolts from vibration, the author filled them with paint.

The first check for performance and the amount of stroke of the blade.

There was a small problem. When the blade is loaded, it does not hold well on the rod, and shifts back.

In order to solve this issue, the master made a special stop from an M6 bolt and two bearings with washers laid between them.

Having made a cut in the plank, I fixed the bearings in it, and cut off the excess bolt.

On the underside of the machine, he secured the thrust mechanism with superglue and soda.

Now small tests on sawing a piece of plywood. Cuts very quickly and without chips. Well, Vladimir gave a second life to an old typewriter!

A brief description of the main characteristics of foreign sewing machines manufactured in the 50-80s that ended up in our country. As well as a list of old models of Soviet-made sewing machines.

Separately, a review is given of old antique models of sewing machines of the Singer type, produced at the end of the 19th, beginning of the 20th century.
This material will come in handy when buying a used sewing machine.

Antique Singer typewriters

Almost all models of vintage antique cars already produced on a mass scale had not only a standard appearance, but also a similar device. This is due to the fact that the patent for the production of this model of the sewing machine belonged to the company Singer. And, despite the different names of cars, for example Afrana (photo), they were all produced in those days only under a Singer license.

Such models of sewing machines have long worked out their resource and are of no value as a sewing machine, as a production tool. Only lovers of the retro style of the now fashionable direction of interior design may be interested in them, and then only if they are in such a satisfactory condition.

Such machines have a shuttle of an outdated design. It was used in the first editions of sewing machines.

Most often, such rare cars are in a very worn condition and many of its components and mechanisms can no longer be repaired.

But, nevertheless, there are instances that still work properly. True, it should be noted that the quality of sewing on these machines is quite low and many modern fabrics do not even need to be sewn on it.

If you need more information or car repairs, see Singer Antiques.

Italian sewing machine Borletti

The sewing machine of the Italian company Borletti is a rather rare sewing machine company for our country, but worthy of attention. Look at the photo, despite the release of this model in 1966, it looks quite modern. In addition, she has an excellent folding table. In addition to the zigzag stitch, there are a number of other types of stitches. The choice of stitch is determined by the installed copier (plastic round inserts). Naturally, the machine has an electric drive, a good reliable pedal and a convenient and strong case for transportation or storage.

Chinese sewing machine Buterfly

This model of the sewing machine is practically no different from the Podolsk sewing machine. Runs just one line. The main difference is that the tail of the bobbin case is turned to the right.

The first models of sewing machines - Chaika 2

The Seagull sewing machine has not only many models, but also series. This photo shows Chaika - 2, one of the first series of this brand. She performs only two lines - a straight line and a zigzag. There are no curly lines. It is rather inconvenient to perform backtacking, since this machine does not have a special reverse lever. Nevertheless, the Chaika 2 sewing machine is more reliable and better assembled than subsequent series.

Sewing machine Chaika 132

The more modern machine Chaika 132 already has a separate reverse lever, a convenient device for winding the lower thread and a different appearance. Otherwise, it is not much different from the Chaika-2 sewing machine, since it also does not have curly stitches, except for a zigzag.
Pretty good model among the varieties of sewing machines such as Seagull.

Brands of old sewing machines - Csepel

Csepel is a Hungarian manufacturer of sewing machines.
This model Csepel - 30 is similar to the lockstitch machine of the PMZ plant. Unremarkable ordinary old model.

Jaguar sewing machine

Mini Jaguar is a fairly common model of a sewing machine that performs a zigzag stitch. Appeared in our country in the early 90s and almost all have a lot of wear.
There are a lot of shortcomings in this model of the machine. A miniature electric drive, a rather fragile pedal, and most importantly, many components and gears are made of plastic. Difficult to repair and set up.

Adolf Knoch sewing machine

The Knoch sewing machine was made in Germany. German engineers are considered the founders of the design of sewing machines. Therefore, and for a number of other reasons, German sewing machines are considered reliable and of high quality.
This model of the Knoch sewing machine performs only one line. Despite the fact that it has a more modern look and a modern device for winding thread on a bobbin, it is quite simple and not suitable for sewing modern knitted fabrics. The price of such a machine in perfect condition, fully equipped and operational ranges from 1500-2000 rubles.

Brands of old sewing machines - Kohler

Another version of the German sewing machine. In the old days, such equipment cost as much as a car now, but in our time such old, morally and physically obsolete specimens can only be of interest to a schoolgirl doing homework assignments for labor lessons.

Sewing machine Kohler Zick-Zack

This Kohler model is already called Zick-Zack, as it is capable of performing not only a zigzag stitch, but also a number of other curly stitches.
Quite an interesting model of a sewing machine. Not only does it perform many stitches, it also has a number of unique settings for thread tension and needle position (offset).
Even the foot models of the Kohler Zick-Zack sewing machines have a built-in light.
In good working condition, the price of such a machine can reach 3 thousand rubles, but no more. Any old sewing machine, even in perfect condition, cannot be expensive. Morally and physically, they are so outdated that they may be of interest to people who begin to learn to sew or are very constrained in their means. Give it to those in need, and your kindness will return to you with a vengeance.

Lada sewing machine is a very good machine. And this is due to the fact that it was produced only for export. The name Lada is a symbol for a series of sewing machines Chaika, produced for sale abroad.
Despite the fact that this particular model is quite old, it performs a zigzag stitch, has a built-in lamp and a number of other advantages.

Brands of old Polish sewing machines – Lucznik

Lucznik or Archer is a brand of sewing machines produced in Poland. If you are offered to buy such a machine for 1500 - 2000 rubles, you can safely buy it. She sews a zigzag stitch and a number of decorative stitches. It is possible to include two positions of the needle relative to the center (left, right). This is necessary when adjusting the lightning. Very handy removable table.

Sewing machine Malva made in USSR

Mallow is a complete analogue of the Seagull sewing machine. Sews two stitches - a straight stitch and a zigzag stitch.

Brands of old sewing machines - Minerva

Minerva is a brand of sewing machines produced in Czechoslovakia. Reliable quality machines. This model of the machine (photo) is similar in terms of capabilities and device to the straight-line sewing machines Podolsk, Singer.

Sewing machine Naumann (Germany)

The Naumann sewing machine was produced in Germany. Quality line, reliable and hardy machine. This Naumann sewing machine has only one straight stitch.

Italian sewing machine Necchi

Necchi is an Italian company that has been manufacturing sewing machines since 1924. This Necchi sewing machine model (photo) performs two types of stitches: a straight stitch and a zigzag stitch. Very interesting, original design, but in the event of a breakdown it is almost impossible to find spare parts.

Radom is a brand of Polish sewing machines

This model of the Radom sewing machine resembles the Chaika 2 sewing machine in terms of its capabilities and device. But the build quality and reliability of the parts surpass the Chaika, which makes the Radom machine more reliable and durable.

This Radom model also performs a zigzag stitch, but its design is very outdated.

Veritas Rubina made in GDR

The Veritas Rubina sewing machine is a very good machine in every respect. She has a modern look, electric drive, light. Lightweight plastic body makes it easy to carry. Performs many lines, including the buttonhole operation. Many interchangeable legs and a convenient reverse motion lever (backtacks). High quality stitching without gaps
The only drawback is that the country of the GDR that produced Veritas Rubina has long been gone, and it will be very difficult to find spare parts for it.

Models of old sewing machines - Singer

Of all the models of used sewing machines sold in our country, Singer sewing machines, manufactured in the early 90s, can be especially distinguished. Reliable, high quality machines. All parts are made of metal, as evidenced by its weight. But there are also disadvantages. However, if the machine is fully equipped with paws, perfectly sews any fabric, then you don’t need to know about them, especially if the price of the machine does not exceed a couple of thousand rubles.

Models of Finnish old sewing machines - Tikka

Sewing machine Tikka - Tikka was released in Finland. The quality of this model of sewing machine is impeccable, as well as the beautiful appearance. This model of the Tikka sewing machine performs only one straight line.

Models of old sewing machines - Tula

Tula's original full zigzag sewing machine. Many interesting original design solutions, but there are also disadvantages. If there is a choice between Tula and Chaika, then it is better to buy Chaika. The price for both used cars (Tula, Chaika) is the same, no more than 2.5 thousand rubles.

Sewing machine Union made in USSR

The Union sewing machine is similar in appearance and design to the Podolsk sewing machine. Its only difference is that the Union series of sewing machines was intended for sale abroad.

The best sewing machine - Veritas

If you choose the best brand among old models of household sewing machines, then you can safely call Veritas. Why exactly Veritas can be found in other articles on our site. In this article, we will only add that for a Veritas sewing machine in good condition (even such an outdated model), you can pay 3 thousand rubles.
See Old used sewing machines.

The sewing shuttle of such a machine rotates in a circle, which is rare even for modern expensive machines.

And for such a Veritas model, which is in perfect condition, as in this photo, you can pay five thousand rubles.

How to make a table from an old Singer sewing machine

Many people know how Singer sewing machines appeared. What happens if the machine breaks down or you have a newer model? You can sell it or give it to friends. But quite often they simply forget about it, and it continues to gather dust in the corner. Many are taken to the garage, to the country house or to scrap metal collection points. And here the story of the legendary cars can be ended.

But, the legacy of Isaac Merritt Singer has recently enjoyed great success, and as a rare thing is of great interest to people with a creative approach: both professionals and amateurs alike. Because there are quite a lot of ideas for using already unnecessary legs from the typewriter.

And every time you can find something new and original. So don’t rush to get rid of the “trash”, you can always throw it away, but then it will be more difficult to find a similar machine.

The sewing machine has a cast-iron bed, the machine is attached directly to it. The openwork cast-iron bed has an elegant and attractive appearance. It can perfectly fit into the interior, creating comfort and harmony of the last century in the house.

So if you have such a machine, you are very lucky.

With a little time and imagination, there will be a new and interesting thing in your house. And what it could be, you choose. You can make a computer or dining table, a dressing table in the bedroom or a flower stand on the balcony.

Before you start creating your masterpiece, the legs of the sewing machine must be prepared. Indeed, over many years of using it for its intended purpose, particles of dust, dirt and engine oil have accumulated on it. Therefore, before starting work, the frame must be thoroughly washed.

The legs can be painted any color you like. It is better to use rust paint, because over the long years of their life they could lose their original appearance.

Dining table from an old Singer sewing machine

You can make a wonderful dining table from a cast-iron bed. We prepare and paint the legs, choose the color of the paint to your liking. The tabletop can be round, rectangular or square.

If you like indoor flowers and you have a lot of them, you can make an interesting stand for them. A similar table with plants will look very nice. You can put it both on the balcony and in the room.

The tabletop can be decorated with mosaics. And if you have the ability to draw, decorate with an interesting pattern. Glass countertops will look no less original than those made of wood. Sometimes during work, interesting ideas may appear on how to decorate the future table. The main thing is to let your imagination express itself in full force.

Here, of course, one cannot do without male help, so you can ask your husband or father. Men will be happy to take part in the creative process, and maybe they will suggest a couple of interesting ideas.

Home theater stand

For example, how to make a stand for a home theater. And for this you need to separate the side legs from the bed, remove the wheel and pedal and install shelves instead. You get such an unusual whatnot.

These are just a few examples of how you can use the legs from an old Singer machine as the base for a beautiful table. And the pedal and wheel will always attract the attention of children and can captivate them for a long time.

It's so easy to give new life to old things.

Painting of a sewing machine near Zhostovo

Once, an old Singer sewing machine “sailed” into my grasping hands, in almost working condition.

Original ideas for using an old sewing machine in interior decor

The efficiency of the sewing machine was restored by 95% by me, in about three days of persistent picking of the mechanical part, after which it began to sew perfectly. The only thing that did not suit me was its appearance: the stand dried up and staggered on all its spiked joints, the paint on the case was chipped and worn off in many places, the chrome parts were scratched.

This is what the Singer sewing machine looked like before my creative intervention (mechanics removed). There is a certain angular-monogram ornament of Art Nouveau style all over the body. In general, the ornament is built in the "Ra-symbolism": the sun, the sphinx, lotuses, wings - a stylization of the Egyptian style.

I thought just a little, about a month or two, and decided to give my Singer a look worthy of his status.

Preparation for painting was complex and lengthy. I immediately gave the stand to the carpenters I knew, who immediately smashed it, sanded it with high quality and reassembled it. It turned out that the stand was made of mahogany, nothing else. I planned to simply paint the stand in a darker color, tint it with a stain, however, when I covered the tree with one layer of varnish, I realized that the color was already perfect without tinting.

The machine itself had to be scraped down to bare metal for a long time. All the old paint along with the primer had to be removed. Several types of sandpaper, knives and an awl for the most microscopic details and holes were used.

When the metal was completely free of paint, I wiped it down with acetone and applied two coats of automotive acrylic primer from a spray can. Each layer of soil was lightly cleaned with fine sandpaper very carefully. In the next photo, the body of the machine and all its other parts are already covered with soil. In order not to splatter the chrome and other parts that do not require painting, I sealed them partly with masking tape, partly with electrical tape.

It is best to paint on metal, even on a primer, with oil paints, and not on turpentine, but on a tee: oil, turpentine, varnish. Stylistically, the traditional Zhostovo painting on trays was most suitable for the surface and character of the product, where lush buds of a flower bouquet seem to emerge from a dark background.

The first painting run was unsuccessful. In the next photo, the original underpainting, which was washed off the next day, because this is not what I wanted.

And here is what you need.

And almost the same flower ornament on the stand, but with some differences.

Gilding has already been added to the painting on the stand. Zhostovo, although he uses gold in painting, but not in the quantities that I used. By the way, my gold is gold powder mixed with acrylic lacquer. Let's add gold embellishments to the ornament on the case.

Close-up:

After complete drying, the painting of the machine was covered with three layers of automotive acrylic varnish of the same series as the primer. Each layer of varnish, except for the last, was carefully cleaned with zero sandpaper (“null”) in the presence of water (wet sandpaper).

The stand is covered with PF varnish in a standard way for wood.

The photos show a brand new Singer assembled. It looks like it came off the assembly line this morning.
