The central characters in the rituals and songs were Ivan and Marya. The holiday of the highest flowering of natural forces became the apotheosis of human love, therefore this flower was the embodiment of a strong love passion. That was a long time ago. The moss of oblivion overgrown with events that once happened and even rumors about them have sunk into oblivion.

In one village there lived a young man, well done - handsome. And next door lived a girl, next to whom the star shone brighter, she was so beautiful.

Everything was fine, they lived, they didn’t grieve, until one gloomy morning, at an unkind hour, trouble happened - a fierce beast from the surrounding forests and swamp marshes kidnapped the red maiden. For what, only he knows.

The young man was grieving, because he loved his Maryushka more than anything in the world. He went to the great Mages to help him in a difficult matter. But they nodded their heads that, they say, we know about your grief, but we won’t be able to help, because we need help not magical, but of a different kind.

The young man threw a cloak over his shoulders, took a bow and arrows to kill the uninvited beast, and set off.

And not far from the village, so to speak, in the suburbs, lived an old man, gray-haired, thin. But a master of all trades. And shoe a horse, and he could talk heart to heart.

So the path led the young man to the old man. The guy asked for help, to which the old man answered him -

Love hobbles any horse and turns a wild boar into a meek lamb, you just need to show the feeling in its entirety as if it were not a beast at all, but a fierce man wounded in the heart by anger, who decided to take revenge on the whole world for his unrequited feeling.

And the old man told that a long, long time ago, a fairy, a beauty and an enchantress, an enchantress, lived in this forest. She liked the Forester, who lived nearby. How much effort he made to be heard by her, how many arrows of love he fired from his heart, we do not know about that, we only know that the sorceress aimed at the death of his soul, and did not want to bestow a reciprocal feeling.

The spell worked. The soul of the Forester was enslaved by malice, and the atrocities turned him into a beast. Not a single beauty could melt his hearts, for stolen love is not love at all.

And so the beast lived, tearing his heart to pieces and taking revenge on everyone who was at least a little happy with love in return.

The young man listened and thought.

How to be?
After all, now it was not a fierce beast that stood before him, but a heart broken by bitterness.
And he decided to ask for help
At the Clear Light, the beautiful Sun,
At Voditsa - Moloditsa,
At the Wind - Bogatyr
And at the hope and support of all good people - Zemlitsy - Intercessor.

Having prayed three times, having bowed to the Four Directions of the World, he called on the Forces of Good and Order and managed to enlist their support in this difficult matter.

And with good fellow travelers -
Living Water, flowing Stream,
Descended from the Heavenly Source,
Holy Earth and Gray-winged Wind,
That fills with vivacity and strength,
And most importantly - the ability to GIVE
LOVE, and wait for the result
Only where the Light is manifested in full force
Lights of LOVE, giving wings to people.

And, having prayed to God three times,
Enlisting his support in the matter,
I walked boldly into the forest to test,
And everything, I tell you, was skillfully managed,
He covered the beast with solar chain mail,
He said that he would give love to him as a friend,
And the wind gave them a scent to drink
Wonderful flowers, and a magic board
He covered the dwelling dark, miserable,
By highlighting it, and on the way - the road
He flew away, thereby doing a good deed -
Salvation of the soul, Sage skillful!

And the young man, glad every time,
Began to be filled with a sunny diamond
From the Light of the rising Luminary,
Dawn Glorious - Hot Yaril!
O! As the Ray of Light disperses the darkness,
And this Ray from the heart sends
The youth is brave, and pierces the heart of the beast
With your love! Is it to be a loss?
After all, it has a small heart Ray
Epic Power, Mighty Valor!!!

And in a moment a sprout grew from the heart of the beast,
Filled with hope and trust
To the one who undividedly could
See in this monster a wonderful Light!

Krasna returned - the Maiden to Ivan,
They are glorious in honor, without deceit,
Ascended under the White Stone Vaults
In Love, Hope, Faith and Freedom!
They called themselves spouses gladly,
Each other became a fiery reward,
Warmly congratulated them, bread and wine
They ate, suddenly went into their house
A wanderer whose roads are sewn together by the wind,
He bowed to them, read prayers,
And wished them to be kept by fate
And for endless centuries - Beloved!

This traveler was able to comprehend a simple law -
You can become your favorite if you are in love
In endless fields, forests and clear rivers,
It is important to fall in love and remain a Human,
That even if the feeling is not shared
No need to take revenge, otherwise you will be a beast!

TO WHOM IS GIVEN TO LOVE, THAT WILL BE HAPPY,

AND THIS LIGHT WILL GIVE GOOD PEOPLE!!!

In every corner of the world there are religions whose teachings are based on the magic of herbs. Both sorcerers and modern doctors assure that plants have energy and healing properties that have not yet been studied by man. One of the most mysterious herbs is Ivan da Marya.

Our ancestors did not know about doctors and pills. But they corrected their health with the gifts of nature. Newborns were bathed in decoctions, the girls washed themselves with spirit water for beauty, and the sick were given tinctures for better well-being.

Of course, with progress, part of the knowledge was forgotten forever. But still, some information has survived to this day. Today, herbs help improve health, cleanse the body, and even attract good luck or win the heart of a loved one.

Ivan da Marya belongs to the paraphyletic group of plants. In the people, this flower is also called adam-and-eva, lungwort, brother and sister, zheltyanitsa, verdigris, fireflower, oak maryannik, jaundice, Ivanova grass, meadow bell.

One beautiful but tragic story is connected with this plant. The legend tells that once upon a time there lived a brother and sister - Ivan and Marya. Fate separated them at a young age. Many years passed and relatives met. The guy and the girl immediately fell in love and even decided to get married. Then the terrible secret of their relationship was revealed. In order to never part, the young people turned into a beautiful flower. According to another version, it was the punishment of the Lord for the fact that blood relatives got married. Purple and blue represent the guy's shirt, while yellow represents the girl's headscarf.

The Slavs believed: if you collect flowers on the night of, then the plant will protect your home from trouble throughout the year. This herb drives away evil spirits, protects the family and multiplies the love between a man and a woman.

Grass is harvested in the summer, during the flowering period. The leaves are dried outdoors. You can meet this specimen in the fields and in light forests. The plant is common in the European part of Russia, in the steppes of Ukraine and in the Caucasus. Keep the herb away from other medicinal plants. Shelf life 10 months.

Ivan da Marya helps with inflammation. With the help of lungwort heal wounds. It is also used for headaches, stomach ailments and skin problems.

Bath tinctures are made from this specimen. To do this, take 3 tablespoons of chopped, dried grass and pour 1 liter of boiling water. The liquid must be infused for at least two hours. After that, the wounds are washed with a decoction.
Heals the plant and epilepsy. 1 teaspoon of herbs is poured into a glass of hot water and left to infuse for half an hour. Then filter and drink one spoonful several times a day.

But you should be very careful. Improperly prepared grass may contain toxic substances.

In fact, several completely different plants belonging to different families are called this name. Therefore, it is rather difficult to say exactly which flower our ancestors called it. In any case, it is known that this name bears a two-color flower, usually yellow with purple.

Most often, Ivan da Marya is called a plant known in botany as oak maryannik - an annual plant that is distinguished by bright yellow flowers with purple bracts. Other names for this plant are Ivanova grass, brother and sister.

Sometimes Ivan da Marya is also called tricolor violet (pansies) or meadow sage, less often - small periwinkle.

Legends about Ivan da Marya

The most common version of the legend explaining the name of the flower is associated with the name of Ivan Kupala.

They were once born in the same family - and, Kupala and Kostroma. When they were still small children, Kupala was carried away to distant lands by the Sirin bird. Many years later, the young man was sailing down the river in a boat, wandering in unfamiliar lands. In the meantime, a girl's boat was sailing past his boat. Kupala picked him up, and when he went ashore, he met his mistress, the beautiful Kostroma. The young people fell in love with each other with all their hearts. They got married according to the Slavic custom. And only then, having come to their native village, did they find out that they were brother and sister to each other.

According to one version of the legend, the gods punished Kostroma and Kupala for their forbidden love by turning them into a flower. According to another version, the unfortunate lovers themselves asked the gods about this so that they would never be separated.

Another version of the legend tells that Kostroma, unable to bear the shame, went to drown herself in the river and turned into a mermaid, a mara.

The most cruel legend tells of a sister who tried to seduce her brother, for which she was killed by him. Before her death, she asked to plant this flower on her grave.

A “softer” story is about a brother and sister who lived on the banks of a river. Once the sister was lured by mermaids and turned into a mara, the wife of a merman. Then her brother gathered wormwood-grass and with its help defeated the merman.

Plant symbolism

Ivan da Marya is one of the main symbols of the Ivan Kupala holiday, a sign of unbreakable love.

In addition, it is believed that yellow symbolizes fire, and purple - water (dew). Thus, Ivan da Marya is a symbol of the unity of opposites, a sign of fire and water.

It so happened that many people have heard about the Ivan da Marya flower, but few people have at least some idea about it. But the contrasting beauty of this plant can be a highlight in any garden. And besides, the flower will be at hand if there is a need to use its healing properties. The article will help to understand the features of the medicinal plant, and the attached photos will allow you to enjoy the beauty of the flower.

Ivan da Marya: legends and traditions

Knowledge about the Ivan da Marya flower goes back centuries. In pagan times, the Slavic ancestors called the flower Kupala da Mavka. Only with the advent of Christianity did he acquire a new name, which has survived to this day.

According to East Slavic myths, a brother and sister lived in the world - Kupala and Kostroma, separated by chance and parental disobedience in childhood. After many years, an unfortunate accident brought them together again, but they did not know about their relationship, and fell in love with each other. And only after the wedding did they find out that their hearts were bound by forbidden love. The bitter truth forced the brother and sister to choose between death and disgrace. They chose death - Kostroma drowned herself in the depths of a forest lake, and became the first Mavka mermaid, and Kupala threw himself into the heat of the fire.

The gods, looking at such a tragedy, took pity and turned the brother and sister into a beautiful flower - partly blue, like water, partly yellow, like fire. With the advent of Christianity, Kupala was renamed Ivan (in honor of John the Baptist), and Mavka, his miserable sister, was named Mary, in honor of the Virgin.

Medicinal plant in natural conditions

Rumor gives magic to a two-faced flower plucked on the day of the summer solstice (on the Kupala holiday):

  • the owner of a marvelous plant will be able to move quickly, even if there is an old horse under him (in the modern interpretation, he will help the racer in any car);
  • freshly squeezed juice of the plant was given to drink to people who had lost their memory or reason;

  • acts as a keeper of peace between husband and wife.

  2. The pointed lanceolate leaves of Ivan da Marya are located opposite each other on an upright stem. The inner side of the leaves is equipped with short hairs.

With this skin lesion, Ivan da Marya is applied externally - the child is washed in a decoction or lotions are made.

Healers use dry crushed maryannik grass as a wound healing and antiseptic agent, preventing putrefactive processes. In the form of an infusion, Ivan da Marya is taken orally for hypertension and heart disease. Herbal tea relieves the condition with neuralgia and epilepsy.
