Lilac warm or cold color. Color that suits

Or here is a simple division of the color wheel:

Or very beautiful example warm and cold colors:

Beautiful palette of cold colors:

When we are dealing with pure colors, then it is not difficult to distinguish between warm and cold colors. Difficulties begin when determining mixed colors, especially those in which a blue or yellow subtone is not clearly visible.

Here are examples of "parallel" colors that are roughly the same in terms of color, but differ in degree of warmth:

Here (to the basket of difficulties) are added the so-called "neutral" colors, which balance between "warm" and "cold":

We conditionally refer to neutral those colors in which weak, almost indistinguishable to the eye, pronounced subtones (blue or yellow). However, for the selection of clothing colors, neutral colors are also divided into neutral cold (achromatic) And neutral warm(beige, cream, ivory, etc.) on the grounds that neutral-cold ones are better suited as neutral ones for the "winter" and "summer" color types, and neutral-warm, respectively, for "spring" and "summer" . However, do not forget that there are several color subtypes that are conditionally included in one of the 4 seasons, according to the principle of the predominant color of the color and the colors of clothing that match it, but which can also wear things from the palette opposite in temperature. Such subtypes are neutral in themselves, if we take a conditional boundary between cold and warm colors, they will be right on it, at the "zero" mark, and can balance at a small thermal distance in one direction or another from this zero.

According to my system, such neutral subtypes this "Watermelon and Melon" from spring (pastel-watery colors with a very weak share of yellow or neutral), "Alpine glaciers" from winter (they have pure neutral colors, primary red, blue, platinum, without obvious blue in the undertone); from autumns it's subtypes "Gooseberry and Kiwi"(weak brown-yellow undertone), "Lotus and Orchid"(in addition to a slightly yellow undertone in saturated and fairly pure colors, they withstand a weak blue undertone, a very wide range of colors, the same as the orchids themselves in their diversity), "Lions and Savannahs" And "Sands and Camels" they also have neutral beige and sand colors at the base, their pigmentation is weakly expressed in general, it seems diluted; "Garnets and Agates" have a half palette based on gray, also grey colour with the addition of slightly warm browns dominates the palette "Cocoa and coffee". Of the summer subtypes, this "Linen Canvas"(grayish-yellowish-greenish range with a very slight pink in the skin), their related summer subtype "Pearls and Lace"(also gray-pinkish-yellowish pigmentation, opalescent, translucent, with an implicit share of bluish in the skin), ibid. among the summer subtypes "Wolf", in which both warm and cool undertones are present in the skin, which in total, plus, makes this subtype neutral, as it withstands implicit warm and cold colors. Among the well-pigmented "years" there are also subtypes "Clover" (saturated colors with a grayish neutral undertone, neither warmth nor cold is clearly visible), "Pinery" with skin of warm and cool tones at the same time, but neither obviously warm nor clearly cold pure shades are suitable for them, "Heliotrope", which, due to the yellowness in the skin, can be attributed to "springs", but the colors suit them neutral-summer whitened. Almost a third of the entire list comes out.

Thus, the division of people and color schemes into cold and warm is very conditional, but, nevertheless, upon closer examination, the palettes of such people will gravitate to either neutral cold or neutral warm, but the proportion of temperature-forming pigments (blue or yellow) will be negligibly small and well diluted with achromatic colors, which will practically not be determined by eye and this will give a reason to attribute them both here and there, battles flare up on forums for determining color types over such subtypes.

Advice! If you find it difficult to self-determine in a warm or cold season, then always choose neutral color. Neutral colors do not spoil anyone, and if they do not emphasize the natural color, then at least they will not spoil.

Although a trained eye, one way or another, will always determine one or another color in one or another steppe. And if you learn how to choose the right lightness and color saturation of clothes, then half the battle is already done. Very often, disharmony is noticeable precisely by lightness-saturation and the contrast they form with the face, and not by “temperature”, and this is also one of the difficulties in color typing, when, having incorrectly selected a color according to its lightness-saturation, it is concluded that it is not suitable color when the color is correct, but it is either too dark, too light, too saturated, or too pale. For example, a person may look worse in a palette of colors that suit him in "temperature", but do not suit him in lightness-saturation, than in a palette of "alien" "temperature", but suitable for him in lightness-saturation. So, "winter" can dress in the colors of "spring" and not look pale, while in summer colors it will look bad if these colors do not match her color parameters. And this is also one of the "ambushes" in color typing, when a person draws the colors of other seasons in terms of color parameters, but they are alien in temperature, and an inexperienced eye distinguishes lightness and saturation better than subtones and pigments that make up the color, due to which it incorrectly classifies itself or client in other seasons. Typical examples of this: Monica Bellucci, who due to the brightness looks "winter", but her pigmentation is "autumn" with obvious yellowness and no blue, she "Ebony and Ivory", there is also Penelope Cruz. The same problems with the subtype "Olives and Olives"(Salma Hayek, for example), in terms of lightness and saturation it is referred to as "winter", but in terms of pigments it is autumn. In short, this is a common problem with rich, dark sub-types that are referred to as borderline off-seasons. They lie in the same plane as the weakly colored neutral subtypes, but with the difference that in the weakly colored, all parameters are weakly expressed, while in such dark and saturated ones, the lightness-saturation is more pronounced than the definiteness of pigmentation. Thus, "walk" between the seasons of spring "Crystal and Champagne"(Gwen Stefani) "Red Tulips"(Thomas Anders) "Black Velvet and Brachats"(Charles Aznavour, 90% Armenians), winters "Charcoal, chalk and cyclamens"(Audrey Tautou); summer "Volcano"(Sandra Bullock) "Pepper Salt and Rice"(Mikhail Boyarsky), "Spruce Forest"(Elizabeth Taylor, Timothy Dalton); autumn "Eben and Ivory"(Monica Bellucci, Penelope Cruz) "Olives and Olives"(Salma Hayek) "Eagle on the rock"(Chinese, Japanese, yellow-skinned matte brunettes), often and "Grapes and wine" falls under the hand (Demi Moore, Sophie Marceau, Natalia Oreiro), and "Garnets and agates" gets (until I picked up stellar examples, these are dark-haired brown-eyed autumns with pinkish-gray skin with a very weak fraction of yellow in the skin).

In this way, the difficulty of correlating colors and people to a particular gamut are always present and can roughly be divided into the following groups:

1) The difficulty of determining heat-coldness in mind neutrality;

2) Difficulty in determining the warmth-coldness of skin pigments while maintaining their saturation and lightness with a high contrast of skin, hair and eyes with each other;

3) Difficulty in determining heat-coldness with a low degree of pigmentation, high lightness and low saturation.

There are also difficulties in determining color types for reasons:

1) lack of pigmentation as such (albinism), or excessively weak;

2) in "colored" people with a low degree of contrast, but high saturation and dark-skinned people are difficult to determine qualitative composition pigments, it is difficult to determine the proportion of carotene and melanin, often with different lighting such dark-skinned people can look like both warm and cold subtypes.

As can be seen from the analysis, there are not so many pure, easily defined subtypes, no more than a third or even a quarter of all subtypes. Therefore, do not expect ease in color typing. For one typical representative of the season, there are 2-3 atypical, and it takes experience and a good eye to color-type these people.

However, the color typing system based on the principle of color patterns solves these problems in a complex way by simply imitating and copying colors from a natural counterpart to a wardrobe. The method of comparison is always more effective than the methods of analysis and synthesis, and if, when compared with a pattern, we do not find differences, then the person is considered a representative of the pattern.

And one more note on gamma. In the scans from the book of Lasa Sawahata, many scales use both warm and cold colors and their shades, and also in related (analog) scales, the fact of the "horizon line" on the color wheel is not taken into account, the very border between warm and cold, which runs between red and purple on one side, and blue and green on the other. That's why related colors red and purple, as well as blue and green should not be attributed, even if we bring these colors to the same "temperature" by adding either blue or yellow pigments to these colors. Unfortunately, this nuance with the temperature watershed is rarely taken into account by designers when compiling related scales, when related colors on a circle are chosen purely mechanically based on the principle of neighborhood on a circle. On the color wheel, colors are considered adjacent and related only within their temperature semicircle. And if in painting and even interior these unrelated colors can be somehow furnished and beaten, then in a personal wardrobe it is a taboo if the goal is to create a harmonious, and not bright, spectacular, carnival, eccentric and avant-garde wardrobe. Many couturiers bring collections to the catwalks in such color combinations "warm-cold", neighboring in a circle, but not related colors. It always looks bright, like a brake light. But what is interesting on the catwalk and in high fashion is rarely applicable in the everyday wardrobe of average citizens. I will make a separate lecture about unsuccessful and taboo color combinations, as promised, but later, in 10-15 posts.

Please do not hit with slippers for this post, all of the above is my IMHO based on an impartial color analysis of the surrounding reality. Remarks and comments are welcome.

Homework: constantly determine the warmth and coldness of objects in the house, clothing, etc. Try to analyze and justify your conclusions.

Many would like to know what color suits them. It helps to choose the right clothes and makeup. I have long noticed the ability to easily determine what type a person belongs to.
By and large, there are two color types of people: those who are warm colors, and those who suit cold tones. Each type includes blondes, and redheads, and brunettes.
There is also at least one single system for distinguishing people into types. These types are conventionally designated by the name of the seasons ("seasonal" theory), where "Spring" and "Autumn" are warm types, and "Summer" and "Winter" are cold; and "Spring" and "Summer" are fair-haired people, and "Autumn" and "Winter" are dark-haired and red (dark-haired are not necessarily brunettes, they can be brown-haired and people with dark blond hair).
Neither the color of the hair, nor the color of the eyes, nor the color of the skin individually is decisive in the color type, although the color of the skin is to a greater extent.

Warm colors.
These are all colors from yellow to brown, as well as beige, many with an admixture of red (orange, red-brown) and scarlet; some shades of green: grassy and yellow-green.

Cold colors
These are all colors containing blue, including with an admixture of red: purple, lilac, pink, burgundy, beet; blue-green scale: the color of the Moscow wave, malachite, turquoise.

To begin with, try to identify yourself with cold or warm color type.
Take a closer look, is your skin more of a warm, reddish yellow tone or a cool, bluish pink?
Choose colorful scarves in red, blue, green, yellow, purple and brown. Take your makeup off your face, sit down in daylight at the mirror and alternately bring the handkerchiefs to your face. You will immediately feel your color, which suits you especially. With it, the skin seems soft and delicate, the lips are naturally red, the eyes become shiny, the circles under the eyes become less noticeable, and you generally become brighter and more spectacular. Conversely, if the colors do not harmonize, then they give the skin a dry, pale gray, tired look, shadows under the eyes are visible, the eyes lose their luster, the lips appear blue.

Now that you have determined whether your skin is in harmony with warm or cold tones, you need to establish which color type you are. Now correlate your knowledge of colors that are favorable for you with a description of your appearance and photographs for example.

“VESNA” – milk chocolate

Dominated warm discreet fresh natural colors. This is the lightest color type.
The skin is light with a beige-pinkish tint or pale golden with a warm peach tint and a slight blush, the face is characterized by a gentle, natural radiance. Possible freckles golden brown (not grey). Good sunbathing. When tanning, it acquires a delicate shade of “coffee with milk”, but can reach a dark brown color. This is one of the differences between spring type skin and autumn type skin, which usually tans with difficulty. Hair. Light with a yellowish tint - light blond, straw, linen, golden ash, light brown, but always warm, golden tint, often with natural light strands. Eyelashes and eyebrows to match the hair or slightly darker. A spring woman is most often either a natural blonde or a light brown-haired woman. Eyes- gray, walnut, pistachio, yellowish green, blue, turquoise - different color but not dark. Lips- have a warm, natural pale pink.
Neither eye color nor lips contrast with the skin. The sophistication of the spring type is emphasized by clear lines.

spring there are especially many colors based on yellow, they are brighter than the colors of the same tone of the autumn palette.
Carriers of this color type are suitable for tender, pastel shades in clothes - the color of young greenery, turquoise, emerald, golden, coral, peach, terracotta. It is in such color scheme"Spring" girls should choose their wardrobe and accessories. In too light and, conversely, too dark colors the skin will look tired and lifeless, so they are best avoided.

"SUMMER" - cool restraint

Soft, cold colors prevail. Sharp contrasts are contraindicated for summer, its trump card is a soft combination of colors.
The skin is delicate, light pink, with a bluish tint or a cold light olive color. Due to the cold basic tone, it seems noble and fragile, never has a reddish tint. birthmarks and freckles are always gray or ashy (never golden or tan). With the exception of very light options, it tans quite well. After tanning, it acquires a delicate peach shade. Hair - light or dark (not darker than brown) with a cold ash tint. Eyebrows, like hair, always have an ashy tint. Eyes - blue, gray-blue, green, green-blue, green-gray, blue, hazel, whites are clouded, milky. Lips - cold pink. Summer color type, according to experts, is the most common among Russian women. Some of its features are not completely clear, so many women mistakenly refer to themselves as autumn or spring types.

In summer a lot of blue, however, it is more muted and washed out compared to winter shades. Calm, muted, soft tones are suitable for people of the summer “suit” - different shades gray, blue, purple (from light lilac to deep plum) and pink. From jewelry - silver and "dull-pearl" products.

Compare with last photo from Spring.

“Autumn” – peach with cream

Colors warm, juicy- all the diversity of autumn nature.
Leather has a yellowish undertone. Possible freckles reddish or yellowish brown. Hair- from red to dark chestnut, sometimes almost black, always with a brownish, honey tint. Brows- under the color of the eyes or one nuance lighter, eyelashes are often too light, which makes the eyes seem to be devoid of contour. Eyes- light and dark brown, green, turquoise, gray with golden specks. Lips- bright.

Autumn the color type is warmer than spring. If in "spring" the tone is set by yellowness, autumn is mostly red. "Autumn" people do not fit cold colors - gray, black, blue and white. To emphasize the “warmth” of their appearance, they will be helped by clothes and accessories in earthy tones and shades of fading greens: brick, brown, carrot, mustard, swamp green, turquoise and gold. Jewelry made of gold, bronze and copper will harmoniously look at the “autumn”.

"WINTER" - wonderful world contrasts

Represents a cold color direction. This the brightest type female appearance. Dominated cold, contrasting and bright colors.
Leather- two types: a) very light, white, pinkish-bluish, transparent and clean, like porcelain, without blush (like Snow White); b) southern type - olive or swarthy, but with a cold tint. Capable of pigmentation quickly tans, while it acquires a delicate olive tone (or grayish-olive). Hair. As a rule, burning dark: dark ash (like Tom Cruise), dark brown, blue-black, although there may be platinum blondes. A cold ashy sheen is clearly visible on the hair. However, if "Winter" is repainted red, it will not cease to be "Winter". (For confirmation of this, see the photo of Madonna and Anastasia Stotskaya with black and red hair). Dark eyelashes and eyebrows. Hair creates a contrast with light, porcelain skin color. Eyes- dark brown, green, dark blue, gray (except light) with bright whites. Lips- juicy with a bluish tint.

winter colors also have a blue base, however, it is brighter and clearer than summer colors. Winter is the only color type that black and white does not spoil. From saturated bright colors(orange, bright green, yellow) it is better to refuse in favor of dark pink (raspberry, ruby, burgundy), inky purple, turquoise and coffee shades. It is very careful to use beige and sand shades, some of these shades can decorate the "Winter", but if you make a little mistake in the shade of color and beige will "kill" you.

Colors have limitless possibilities: they can not only evoke certain emotions in us - despondency and joy, sadness and happiness, but also create sensations of cold or heat, large space or tightness.

In addition to the spectrum of colors, there are almost one and a half million of their shades and tones that the eye of almost any person can catch.

Color circle can be divided into warm and cold colors. In the warm part of this spectrum, colors from green to red are located (mostly yellow and red tones prevail here), and in the cold part, colors from green to purple are located (the predominance of blue and green tones).

The temperature of a green tint is determined by the ratio of cold blue to warm yellow in it. blue-green color reminiscent of the sea, it calms and revitalizes, green-yellow revitalizes and reminds you of the fresh greenery in May. Green tones are the tones of relaxation, they relax and relieve fatigue. Green is a neutral color, the lightest and most pleasant to perceive.

warm colors
