What are frames made of? How to make a frame for a picture with your own hands? Picture frames - photo. Features of the use of frame structures

Nowadays, hand-made interior items are in great demand. There are many shops selling goods of this category. Handmade products look original, the authors invest not only imagination and skills, but also a piece of their soul. Yes, and it's nice to have in the house not standard products from consumer goods, but an individual product, which is in a single copy. However, for such products you will have to pay a tidy sum, since authorship is valued dearly. It will be much cheaper if you show creativity, imagination and realize your vision of a household item, for example: photo frames, paintings, wooden mirrors.

creative plans

Before you start any work, you always need to draw up an approximate plan of action, prepare materials and an object that you want to frame. The finished product should organically fit into the interior of the room, whether it is an office or a residential apartment. The frame cannot but correspond to the style of the general interior. Also, the materials from which the frames are made vary greatly in texture, quality, and color. The wooden frame itself can be in a simple style, or maybe with a beautiful openwork carving.

Even a simple, even frame made of wood is complemented by design elements that will give it a special style and originality. You also need to decide what exactly to focus on in the work. If the main thing in the project is the design of an already finished frame, then it can be purchased at the store, and at home transformed into a masterpiece. If the frame itself becomes the object of creativity, then it is better to make it yourself.

Material selection

In order to make a frame with your own hands from wood, the necessary wood is selected. Basically, you need to look at the pattern and structure of the tree, since, in principle, any breed is suitable for this. If the frame is then painted, then the simplest one is chosen - pine or spruce. If the structure of the tree is visible and the product is subsequently varnished or stained, then you need to take wood with the original pattern. Walnut, ash, cherry, linden look very nice.

Beautiful do-it-yourself picture frames made of wood are created when they are carved (floral, plot or simple ornament). For carving, softer wood is taken, especially if the carver is a beginner. A professional, of course, will make a pattern on an oak board, but for a beginner it will be difficult, since oak is considered a very hard wood. You will also have to buy a set of cutters of different sizes.

Another option for making a frame with your own hands from wood is a simple wooden product, which is decorated on top with improvised materials. Picture frames decorated with something unusual are now fashionable. These can be pieces of bark, pencils, shells, buttons and other junk material.

Making a frame with your own hands from wood

Before you make a picture frame out of wood, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:

  • plywood or fiberboard;
  • wooden slats, plinth or baguette;
  • hand saw or jigsaw;
  • miter box;
  • construction stapler;

  • PVA glue;
  • acrylic varnish or paint, brushes;
  • stain (if necessary);
  • a plastic or metal loop;
  • nails or screws;
  • hammer or screwdriver (in extreme cases - a screwdriver);
  • corner clamps;
  • sandpaper.

When planning to glue a picture frame with something (it’s easy to make it out of wood with your own hands), prepare the material that is needed for this. You can lay out the necessary pattern on the table in advance in order to understand how it will look.

Step-by-step instruction

The first step is to measure the size of the picture and cut out a square or rectangle from plywood or fiberboard. Its size should be larger than the picture by the width of the wooden lath. After attaching a picture or photograph to plywood, outline it with a pencil so as not to stain the object during work. After that, the picture can be put aside until the end of the work.

The second step in making a frame with your own hands from wood will be cutting the rails at an angle of 45 degrees. To do this, you need a saw and a miter box. A rail or block of wood is inserted into the miter box and sawn off along the line. Then we repeat the procedure with another bar. We combine the corners of two pieces of wood, you should get a right angle of 90 degrees. We apply this corner to the plywood and mark the length of the other sides. After that, according to the marked marks, we make cuts of the other two corners. We attach the assembled frame to plywood and check its size. If everything is clearly aligned, you can proceed to the next step.

The ends of the rails, cut at 45 degrees, are smeared with PVA glue and tightly pulled together, left alone until completely glued (approximately 2 hours). After that, for better bonding, connect the corners of the rails with staples using a construction stapler.

Wooden frame assembly

The last step in the manufacture of the frame will be the fastening of the parts together. There is a small nuance here. If you attach a picture or photograph forever, then it can be glued to plywood. Then everything is much easier. The finished frame just needs to be nailed to the plywood or screwed with small screws. If the photo is inserted, then you will have to work harder.

In order for the photo to be freely inserted into the frame, it is necessary to leave a gap between the frame and the photo. In a purchased frame, wooden slats are processed on a milling machine and a step is made for insertion. At home, not everyone has a router, so you need to do it differently. Between the frame and plywood, make an additional layer, for example, from thick cardboard. Strips are cut to size, corresponding to the width of the frame, and glued around the perimeter of the plywood on three sides. You don't need to do it from above. A picture or photograph will be inserted into that slot.

Then clean the surface with sandpaper and cover with a layer of varnish or paint. After drying, repeat the cleaning procedure and cover with another layer. Let dry. Acrylic varnish dries quickly and almost does not emit unpleasant odors.

A do-it-yourself frame for a picture is made of wood for a short time. It remains only to attach a loop and hang it on the wall. The only thing that can be advised is to laminate the photo so that you can periodically wipe the dust without damaging the photo itself.

Variety of materials

You can create frames with your own hands from wood and metal, baguettes and plastic, polyurethane baseboards and simple branches. Now there is such a free approach to the choice of materials that you can realize any flight of fancy. Frames are roughly knocked down with large nails, tied together from randomly sized branches, burned with a blowtorch, peeled off with a stiff brush. Everyone has their own approach. Whoever thinks, then embodies in his work. Nowadays, there are so many different materials and examples of other designers that you can choose the one that suits you by looking at the photos.

Designer mirror frame

You can make frames not only from slats or bars. Consider several options for unusual frames. For example, how to make a wooden mirror frame with your own hands using small twigs? We take plywood for this and cut out a figure several centimeters larger in diameter than a mirror.

If, for example, it is round, then a larger circle is drawn, etc. Then the mirror itself is glued onto liquid nails in the center of the plywood circle. A strip of plywood remains along the edges, which we will decorate. To do this, take glue for the tree and, in turn, smear each branch with glue and put it in a circle with the end in the middle. The work is meticulous and long, but it will turn out to be a completely original thing.

Twig frame

Consider another example of an originally made photo frame. Everyone can make it with their own hands from wood. A photograph is glued onto a sheet of plywood and a few centimeters of margin are left to the edges to decorate the frame. Branches of the same or different lengths are collected, thoroughly dried and treated with an antiseptic.

After that, you can cover them with acrylic varnish, or you can leave them intact. A beautiful twine is taken, four bunches are made from an equal number of branches. The bundles are tightly connected to each other. It turns out a frame of twigs, which is then glued to the free part of the plywood sheet.

Come up with your own version, create, search, try, and everything will work out! Good luck!

In our ever-rushing digital age, sometimes you want to stop, sit in your favorite chair and just relax. It is at such moments that many of us pick up a large one with photographs. When looking at any picture, the thought suddenly arises that it would be nice to put it on a shelf or hang it on the wall. But due to the fact that there is no suitable frame, we again send the photo to lie between the pages of the album. Wait, do not rush and hide the picture, you can create a frame from improvised material. What and how to make a frame? From cardboard. Yes, yes, ordinary cardboard, which can be found in every home.

Cardboard frame - a new activity

So, one cozy evening, flipping through the pages of the album, laughingly telling your child about how once upon a time you were a baby too, you suddenly wanted to leave a couple of pictures in plain sight, enclosing them in an original frame. Creating a paper and cardboard frame will help you pass the evening, besides, this is another great way to teach your child something new and interesting. Feel free to get down to business! Its production will not require large time and financial costs.

Cardboard frame: necessary materials

An elementary do-it-yourself cardboard frame is made using the most common materials, such as cardboard, ribbons, fabric, wallpaper residues, beads, shells brought from a summer vacation, and other items suitable for decor. You will also need scissors, a ruler, a pencil. An interesting solution for decoration can be raw cereals - it can be peas, buckwheat, semolina or any other. How to make a cardboard frame using cereals will be described a little lower, no doubt, many will like this decoration option.

simple frame

To make the simplest frame you will need:

White cardboard;

Decoration items (in this case, beads were used);

Stationery.

Two rectangular blanks are cut out of cardboard. For 10x15 they should be 13.5x18.5 cm. Now in one of them you need to cut out a window, which should be slightly smaller than the picture itself. If desired, a film can be attached to this window on the reverse side, for example, a piece from a transparent file to protect the photo from dust. The picture must be fixed at the corners with thin strips of paper between the blanks, the image in the window. Now you can paste over the blanks with a cloth, decorate with beads. Do not forget to attach a stand to the back of the frame - a triangle cut out of cardboard or a loop to hang it on the wall. This is how easily and quickly a simple frame is made from Agree, even a child can handle it.

A simple frame decorated with groats

Creating such a frame is not at all difficult. The principle of its manufacture is the same as in the previous description. Only the way of decorating changes. Groats are glued to the front blank with the help of PVA. If it is peas, then each pea is glued separately. You can even use semolina, millet, buckwheat. After the glue dries well, the grits must be varnished, allowed to dry, painted in any suitable color and again covered with a layer of varnish. It turns out a very unusual cardboard frame made in the “cereal” technique. Made by hand, it will delight your eyes for a long time.

Scrapbooking frame

This option is somewhat more difficult to perform than the previous ones, and will require a little more time and effort. A cardboard photo frame decorated with fabric looks stylish and rather unusual. To make such a thing you will need:

Scrap paper sheet 30x30 cm;

A piece of scrap paper 10.5x15.5 cm;

Brads (carnations or buttons with a decorative hat);

A small piece of synthetic winterizer;

- Moment Crystal.

To make such a cardboard frame, you need to cut out several details: the front and back sides (24x18.7 and 18.5x13.5 cm in size), the leg (16 cm). The window in the frame is cut out based on the size of the picture. The frame cover is cut out of fabric. When cutting, do not forget to make a small (approx. 1.5 cm) indent from the edge for bends. The front part is cut out of the synthetic winterizer, the one with the window. You can start to form the frame itself. To do this, the front side must be lubricated with a thin layer of glue and the synthetic winterizer is fixed, a prepared fabric is applied on top of it, which must be glued, bending the material to the reverse side, starting from the corners. It should look like a pillow. Now you need to make the middle of the frame, that is, the same window. Carefully, not forgetting about small indents, a rectangle of the required size is cut out, the fabric is folded, glued. To make the frame even more attractive, you can sew its edges on a sewing machine. To decorate the scrap frame, you can use ribbon bows, brads, beads and other small items for decoration. The back side is glued with scrap paper, in turn, a leg is attached to it for stability.

Scrapbooking cardboard photo frames are distinguished from all others by their delicate, extremely attractive design and can serve as a great gift.

Cardboard coffee frame, master class

Necessary materials:

Thick cardboard;

Coffee beans;

Acrylic lacquer;

Stationery;

1. We prepare the basis for the frame. To do this, rectangles, front and back sides are cut out of cardboard. In the front part, depending on the size of the picture, a window is made.

2. The front side is pasted over with a suitable color material.

3. The window for the picture is carefully formed.

5. Coffee beans are glued to the fabric. For this purpose, it is better to use Moment Crystal or liquid nails.

6. After all the grains are glued, you can cover them with two or three layers of varnish with intermediate drying of each layer.

7. A variety of little things can serve as decoration for the frame - such as satin ribbons tied into beautiful bows, figures of coffee cups and spoons.

8. The desired photo is fixed in the window.

9. The front and back are glued together.

10. A rectangle cut out of cardboard will serve as a support for the frame, which is fixed on the back of the product.

Frame with eggshell

You can also decorate the cut out base for the photo frame with eggshells.
It turns out a certain effect of aging with cracks, or a mosaic. Before sticking the shell on the cardboard, it must be properly prepared. First, rinse thoroughly. Secondly, remove all internal films. Thirdly, dry well. Only after such preparation can the shells be painted with acrylic paints in any color, let the paint dry and break the shell into small pieces.

The front side of the future frame must also be painted in a suitable color. It is not necessary to use paint of the same shade. For example, bright pink, bright blue, crimson and white colors are perfectly combined with each other. Playing on their contrast gives a stunningly beautiful result. Shell fragments are glued to the front side in random order, folding into a kind of mosaic. In such a simple way, using improvised material, a do-it-yourself cardboard frame is made.

Good luck with your ideas and success!

It is always a pleasure to look at photographs that capture memorable moments from your life. Whether it's a wedding celebration, the birth of a child, or just a photo on a bench in an autumn park.

And so that valuable frames do not disappear, we try to carefully preserve them, a photo frame may be suitable for this. It can be purchased at the store, but doing it yourself is much nicer.

DIY photo frames

Note!

When entering a framing workshop, people often ask themselves: “Is it possible to save money and make a frame yourself?
Here I want to talk about how this can be done.

For real savings, of course, it is better to make yourself not only a frame, but also a baguette, from which it will be made. I wrote more about the technology for making a decorated baguette. As for the frame assembly, before connecting the corners, it is necessary to cut the baguette rail at an angle of 45 degrees. Traditionally, a special device called a miter box is used for this. The rail is placed in the miter box, and the hacksaw is guided through the holes made in the miter box. But this method, unfortunately, does not give perfectly even corners. Therefore, if possible, it is better to use a special machine.

The connection of the corners is made from the back side of the baguette. The modern method is as follows: the surfaces in contact are covered with glue, pressed, and then pulled together with special metal ties for a baguette. If this procedure is not performed on the machine, then you can use a small hammer and carefully drive these ties into the rail. The old way of connecting corners is more reliable, but less aesthetic. The contact surfaces are covered with glue, pressed. After the glue dries, holes for studs are drilled at the ends of the frame. Nails are carefully driven in perpendicular to each other. For added strength, the back of the corner is reinforced with a plywood triangle using small nails. The triangle can be pre-fixed with glue. For such procedures, it is better to use glue for ceiling tiles. It is strong enough and able to fill the voids of the connection gaps.

After the frame is assembled, it is cleaned and decorated. This can be done through the usual staining in a uniform color, or you can use the special methods that I wrote about. If everything is done correctly and accurately, then your frame for your favorite picture will look like a chic bronze baguette, outwardly, not much different from the factory one.

First you need to take all the supplies: wooden boards, paper (its size must match the size of the picture), wood glue, sandpaper, hammer, saw, adhesive tape, paint, varnish.

Four boards must be laid out on a paper template, their thickness, of course, must be the same. Use a pencil to make marks on them to indicate the width and length. In order for the resulting parts to fit together correctly, it is necessary to cut off the end of the first at an acute angle (45 degrees). On a cutting machine, this can be done in a few minutes, but with a conventional saw, this can be done in a short amount of time. It is better to take a saw with fine teeth, so the edge will be more even.

The dimensions of the frame should be slightly larger than the size of the canvas, this will fix the picture under the slats. Each plank after trimming the corners must be applied to the template in order to correct the joints if necessary. In the same way, it is necessary to cut off the corners on the other three planks.

The result should be two long and two short strips with cut corners at 45 degrees. Now you need to assemble the parts and, if necessary, trim the protruding parts.

All parts must be processed with sandpaper to remove all roughness and irregularities. Lubricate the ends of all parts at the joints with glue, assemble the frame. Leave the glue to dry. On the reverse side, the joints must be fastened with a stapler.

Beautiful do-it-yourself picture frame must be varnished, and that's it - your product is ready, but you can still decorate it at your discretion.

It may seem inexpressive and boring ordinary wooden do-it-yourself picture frame, ideas decorating will help you fix this flaw. To give it softness and tenderness, you can use fabric for decoration. The frame must be attached to the fabric and circled along the contour, adding a few centimeters along the outer edge.

Inside, mark the center and cut the fabric diagonally, now wrap the frame and secure with glue. The joints should be sealed with tape or decorated with ribbon flowers. You can also use ordinary brushwood to decorate the frame. It must be cut into small pieces, then grease the wooden base with glue and glue the pieces of brushwood parallel to each other.

How to make a frame for a picture with your own hands

Now let's turn to the question, how to make a picture frame with your own hands baguette, which requires such materials: ceiling plinth, cardboard, ceiling tiles, glue, pencil, ruler, miter box, stationery knife.

You must first measure the size of the picture (be it a reproduction, photograph, embroidery) that you are going to frame. On cardboard, you need to draw a rectangle that will be equal to the size of the image, adding a few centimeters, which are needed for the passe-partout. You can take not only cardboard, polyurethane ceiling tiles are also suitable.

Next, you need to cut out two rectangles of equal size. Draw a rectangle inside one, retreating from the edges of an equal distance. It must be cut along the ruler with a sharp clerical knife. So, one rectangle will be the basis for the frame, and the second will become the details for the mat.

Now we need a ceiling plinth, from which we need to cut four blanks for a frame with a plank edge at an angle of 45 degrees. To make the corners even, neat, you can use a miter box, but you can use a square or a protractor at home.

You can collect all the finished parts. Fold the corners of the planks for the baguette. Spread them with glue, it is advisable to take glue for ceiling tiles. Hold for 5-10 minutes for the glue to adhere, then the corners must be fastened with pins (stapler). Leave until completely dry.

Apply glue along the edge of the base on three sides, glue the mat. After that, attach a baguette from the plinth in the same way. Fasten all the details with pins, leave for a day until completely dry. The image must be inserted into it through the fourth unglued side.

You may notice that DIY picture frame photo practically does not differ from those that can be bought in a store or made by professionals in framing workshops. But now we need to paint our wooden blank using acrylic paints from a spray can. First, you need to prime the surface with PVA glue, laying it in several layers, so you close the structure of the foam. It remains only to attach the wire to hang the picture on the wall.

And if you know how to do it, then the same material can be used to decorate a wooden base, as well as other cereals, seeds, with which you can create an interesting relief, and then cover it with paint (gold paint is most often used).

In this way, you can make it interesting for the whole class and decorate the home interior.
