Wall finishing panels for internal works. PVC panels. Panel material

It is rather difficult to keep track of the rapid growth of the range of finishing materials in our country. The choice of such goods is very large. But samples from different materials are especially popular among buyers. Today we will introduce you to the most popular products of this group.

Wall panels (for interior decoration) today are made not only from traditional wood, which corresponds to the classic style of the interior, but they are made from new and modern materials.

Wall panels for interior decoration

The panels are made on the basis of plastic (siding, plastic mirror, PVC), drywall, mineral wool. In this regard, they differ in technical characteristics and, accordingly, their scope in construction.

According to trade workers, MDF and PVC panels are the most popular. Why is this type of finishing material so in demand today? Wall panels for interior decoration have significant advantages over other materials. First, they are easy to install. Anyone can do this job. Secondly, in a matter of hours, with the help of panels, you can completely transform the room.

natural wood panels

A strict and elegant look is the main reason for their growing popularity. Such panels have long moved from offices to living quarters. They decorate living rooms, lobbies, corridors.

Wooden panels can also be mounted on the ceiling. Moreover, such decor is used not only in the classical style. It will be quite appropriate in the English style, art deco or modern.

Naturally, the price of panels made of precious wood is quite high.

MDF panels

MDF boards are a modern modification of fiberboard. Thanks to modern production technology, a much higher density of the material has been achieved.
Internal is possible in rooms with a high level of humidity, since they are moisture resistant. Such samples are easy to grind, and when cut they do not crumble or break.

Panels made of fiberboard and chipboard

In the manufacture of these materials, various synthetic resins are used. Recently, they do not contain formaldehyde - a substance hazardous to human health.

Some types of chipboard panels are made from wood chips that are compacted with lignin, a natural wood glue. This is an environmentally friendly material.

Often, chipboard panels are finished with vinyl wallpaper, textiles, which are glued with a special glue. Such samples improve sound and heat insulation in the room, reduce acoustics.

On the Russian market, MDF, fiberboard and VSP panels are represented by Agnes, One Step, Atex, Kosche, BS, Kronospan, Klassen, HDM, OSMO.

PVC panels

This type of panels is made of hard plastic with the addition of a special softener.

PVC-based interior trim has a number of undeniable advantages. They do not contain cadmium and asbestos, they are easy to clean, they are moisture resistant even at the joints, do not ignite and are durable. At the same time, air is passed through, which allows the coating to “breathe”.

Today, many of our compatriots use PVC panels for walls. For interior decoration, they are also convenient to use because they increase the level of sound insulation.

Diverse design

A huge advantage of this material is a wide variety of colors, patterns, patterns, which allows you to choose a finishing material for any interior.

The pattern on the PVC panel is applied by printing, and then varnished, thereby increasing the antistatic, resistance to ultraviolet rays and mechanical damage. The coating can be matte or glossy, and its strength is three times higher than that of lacquered wood.

PVC panels can be installed in the bathroom, toilet, kitchen, as they are absolutely not afraid of water.

Russian buyers are well aware of the products of such companies as Harol, Deceuninck, Grisfillex, Plastivan.

Mirrored

Such spectacular panels are widely used in hallways, bathrooms, bedrooms. Quite often they are used in small apartments to visually increase the space.

Mirror panels for walls (for interior decoration) are made of polystyrene. From above they are covered with a plastic film, which can be mirrored or tinted. The panels are available in the classic version or self-adhesive.

They cut well, it is quite easy to apply embossing and text on them. Due to the flexibility of the material, they are used for finishing columns, pylons, arches and other elements that have a rounded surface. Such panels are supplied to our market by the Austrian company SURO-BURG.

Cork panels

This material is not yet very common in our country, although it deserves attention. Cork is a plant tissue obtained from the bark of the cork oak that grows in Portugal. One cubic centimeter of such tissue contains about 40 million air-filled bubbles. This is a unique material - hypoallergenic, environmentally friendly, with strong soundproofing properties.

Plasterboard panels

We have been accustomed to drywall in our homes for a long time. It is used in different types - plates of different sizes and panels, which are covered with vinyl with a decorative finish.

Depending on the material that covers the gypsum board, the panels are made of the following types:

  • using the material "Pletex";
  • with PVC coating based on Devilon paper;
  • with PVC coating based on "Isoplen";
  • with PDO or PDSO film in the interior.

Brick interior wall cladding

Today, the use of brickwork elements in the interior is widespread. It can be whole walls lined with decorative blocks, or small fragments made of both brick and materials that imitate it. It can be painting, wallpaper and various panels.

Decorative ones made of plastic are distinguished by the fact that on one product that imitates masonry, there are "bars" of different shades. For the manufacture of such products, in addition to MDF and PVC, other materials are used (hardboard, plywood), but they have limitations in installation.

Advantages of wall panels

1. A fairly simple installation allows you to perform all operations yourself, in the shortest possible time. The area of one sheet varies from 3 to 8 m 2. The panels are cut with an ordinary hacksaw for metal.

2. The light weight of the panels makes it possible to veneer almost any surface, regardless of the basis of the material. At the same time, there is no need for costly preparatory work, which naturally reduces the total cost of repairs or construction.

3. Wall panels are a truly versatile material. They can be used both inside and outside the building, for decorating ceilings, walls on a loggia or balcony.

5. The panels have a long service life - at least 10 years.

6. Choosing the right type of wall panels and following the rules for their installation, you can significantly increase the moisture protection, heat and sound insulation of the room.

The number of finishing materials is growing year by year. But wall panels for interior decoration have been known for a long time. The first to use wood panels for wall cladding, later other materials were added.

What are wall panels for interior decoration (release forms)

Wall panels are a great option. They can be mounted on a base of any curvature and appearance. When installing them, a long and difficult process of plastering and puttying is not needed. Wall panels for interior decoration are fastened to a crate made of wooden bars or metal profiles, thanks to which any irregularities are hidden. This finishing material is produced in three types: in the form of sheets, plates and rails. Let's consider each type in more detail.

Rack panels for wall decoration

They have a small width. but considerable length. They are connected to each other according to the tenon-groove principle. There are slatted wall panels for interior decoration, in which the joints are hardly noticeable, there are with a pronounced relief. Of the installation features: the crate should be located in a direction perpendicular to the laying direction. If you mount the strips horizontally, the crate must be vertical.

They are made of, fiberboard and plastic (PVC), have a wide application. popular for budget decoration of walls and ceilings in bathrooms, kitchens. Their disadvantage is fragility. Under mechanical stress, the plastic bends, in rare cases it can crack. For places with high humidity, you can use MDF panels (except for places of direct contact with water). Rack panels fiberboard and chipboard are more suitable for dry rooms. Differ in much higher resistance to loadings. Good for wall decoration in hallways, corridors, living rooms.

Plastic panels for interior wall decoration - room for design ideas Slatted panels for walls made of fiberboard - a budget option

During installation, rack panels are attached to the crate with self-tapping screws or staples from. There are also special fasteners: clamps. A clamp is attached to the crate, and he holds the rail with a protruding part - a tongue. In general, clamps are used for mounting wall panels for interior decoration of any type. This is a convenient concealed mounting system.

Installation of rack wall panels can be carried out in a horizontal, vertical, inclined direction. Least waste when mounted vertically or horizontally. Although the rack panels have a considerable length (from 2.4 m), there are still joints. For their decoration there are special docking strips. Special additional elements are used to design internal and external corners, starting strips are used to decorate the edge of the finish.

Vertically, horizontally, obliquely, the same width, different ....

In general, it is worth saying that slatted wall panels for interior decoration are a good choice. Their appearance is combined with ethnic styles, loft, modern, some classical trends. In fact, it all depends on the appearance of the panel. They can imitate wood, ceramic tiles, stone surfaces. To be honest, the imitation on PVC wall panels is “so-so”. Even from a considerable distance you can see that it is plastic. The woody relief on MDF slatted panels looks more believable, a little worse on chipboard.

Wall tiles

Panels for wall decoration in rooms are produced in the form of plates. They have a rectangular or square shape. The maximum size of square - 100 * 100 cm, rectangular - 120 * 80 cm. Of the installation features - the crate must be made to fit the size of the plates. In some systems, the fragments are joined using joint profiles that are visible between the slabs and may have a different color (most often darker). Due to this, the wall looks more voluminous.

Slab wall panels for interior decoration are produced from MDF, chipboard, wood, gypsum, metal (aluminum, painted or stainless steel). In our climate, metal wall panels for interior decoration are used infrequently. But from MDF and chipboard - a popular finishing material for residential premises and corridors. They can be both smoothly painted in one color, and imitating wood, stone or brickwork, ceramic tiles, concrete. Unlike plastic panels, the imitation is reliable, since the manufacturing technology makes it possible to make the surface not smooth, but textured.

Gypsum wall panels have a deep texture. This is the material that is called volumetric or 3D panels. Due to the high plasticity of gypsum, you can create a surface of any shape. Such plates come in white, but can be painted.

Sheet finishing material for walls

Sheet wall panels for interior wall decoration have solid dimensions - height from 220 mm to 300 mm, width is usually 125 cm. Their advantage is that you can find such a size that the plate occupies an area from floor to ceiling. In width, most likely, they will have to be joined, but the joints are designed as a finish, so it looks good. Of the installation features - with small irregularities on the wall, they can be mounted directly to the wall, without a crate.

sheet wall panels - a way to quickly align the walls and finish them at the same time

Sheet wall panels are made of PVC, laminated chipboard and fiberboard, MDF. Plastic sheet panels are good for wet rooms - bathroom, kitchen. Often imitate ceramic tiles, brick and masonry. The desired relief is formed on the plastic, so such an imitation looks quite believable. There are also sheet plastic panels with photo printing. They are often used as kitchen backsplashes - for finishing a work wall instead of ceramic tiles.

Sheet wall panels made of laminated fiberboard are one of the budget options for interior decoration. Most often imitates wood, but can be found under brick and masonry, smoothly painted. Due to the hygroscopicity of the material, they are used only in dry rooms - a corridor, living rooms.

Sheet MDF boards can be used in conditions of high humidity, finishing material from chipboard is suitable for decorating rooms with normal humidity. In terms of texture and color, there are all the same options: imitation of wood, stone and brickwork, plain-colored sheets. MDF wall boards can be embossed (3D). But, unlike gypsum, they cannot be painted.

Characteristics and scope by type of material

We will not talk about PVC panels. There is a separate article about them with a detailed description of the mounting technology on and. In this paragraph, we will consider wall panels for interior decoration from other materials. They are more than enough. There are the usual MDF and chipboard, there are exotic bamboo, glass, metal.

MDF panels

Finishing wall panels based on MDF are available in three forms of release: slatted, slab and sheet. Their surface can be finished with veneer or laminated (pasted with a film), painted. The surface can be smooth or embossed, the color can be any, even in flowers. Most often, MDF panels imitate a wooden surface (it can be the natural color of a tree, brightened, tinted in different colors).

This option is also not bad Color variations - wood effect, smoothly painted Wild stone color options Brick, stone, floral pattern ... whatever you want

The option with brickwork is also popular, masonry is a little less common. There are also smooth-colored colors, and although they are presented in even cheaper materials such as fiberboard and chipboard, they are still bought. There are reasons for this:

  • MDF is one of the safest materials. It is formed from waste wood ground to fibers, after which it is pressed at high temperature. Under these conditions, a natural binder is released - lignin, which is contained in wood fibers. If there is not enough binder, a binder previously isolated from other rocks is added. Because MDF is considered a natural finishing material, it is approved for use in children's and medical institutions (the formaldehyde emission factor of this material is not higher than E1).
  • MDF is not afraid of high humidity, reacts little to temperature changes. Therefore, MDF wall panels for interior decoration can be used in rooms with high humidity, but not where there is direct contact with water.
  • You can create a relief of any complexity. Simpler drawings are formed during pressing, more voluminous and complex - with the help of a milling cutter. Using this technology, 3D MDF volumetric wall panels are made.

MDF wall panels with 3D effect - stylish The pattern can be any ... floral, geometric, fantasy If you also add metallized paint ... Accent wall of volumetric MDF panels for wall decoration

This material still has a drawback: it costs a lot. The price depends on several factors:

  • Density.
  • material thickness.
  • The complexity of molding and coloring.

The minimum price is from $30 per square meter, the maximum price is up to several hundred dollars. But here we must also understand that MDF wall panels have different purposes. Available for wall decoration. They have a high density and thickness (from 8 mm thick). The minimum price is from $40. For finishing the ceiling. You can take thin ones (from 6 mm), since there is practically no mechanical load. But we must take into account the following fact: that the thinner the MDF, the more often it is necessary to install suspensions (fasteners). Otherwise, the MDF panels may bend under their own weight. Fasteners cost money, so saving, if possible, is negligible. But spend more time at work.

Chipboard wall panels

From chipboard, panels for wall decoration are made of sheet and slab type. The material is characterized by low resistance to humidity, so it is used only in rooms with normal humidity. It also reacts poorly to cold, therefore it is not used on unheated loggias and balconies, bathhouses, summer cottages for seasonal visits.

In the manufacture of chipboard, an artificial binder containing formaldehyde is used. In high concentrations, this substance is dangerous, because the production of the material is controlled by the sanitary and epidemiological station. Each batch of material is tested, according to the results of laboratory tests, a hygiene certificate is issued with the emission class indicated in it. Excellent indicator - Super E and E1 (like natural wood), acceptable - E2. Anything above (more than a number) is better not to use at home.

Chipboard wall panels for interior decoration are available laminated (film-coated) or veneered. Their range is not so wide - the material is slightly plastic, because the plates are mostly smooth. Only a few manufacturers have modern equipment that allows you to form a relief. But, even with new equipment, the maximum that can be molded is imitation of brickwork, ceramic tiles, wood texture.

Fastening can be secret - with the help of kleimers - or self-tapping screws. When fastening with self-tapping screws, holes of a smaller diameter are pre-drilled in the material. And we must remember that re-installing the same fastener will not work. It is necessary to use a larger diameter, since the material is crushed / crumbled and is not restored.

Gypsum wall panels

About 5 years ago, gypsum wall panels for interior decoration appeared on the market. This is an environmentally friendly finishing material, absolutely safe and hypoallergenic. Another advantage is its absolute incombustibility. It is as flammable as the stones. In general, a good choice.

Production technology allows you to make a relief of any complexity, so that such plates have a figured front surface. They are also called 3D wall plates. Landforms are very different. Geometric patterns of varying complexity, curved lines, circles, floral motifs and all this in combination. Options and variations - very, very much. The production technology has almost no restrictions. And this whole variety is available in two versions:

  • Made from pure gypsum diluted with water. They can only be used in rooms with normal humidity, since gypsum is hygroscopic. When wet, it collapses. Scope - corridors, living quarters.
  • Moisture resistant with hydrophobic additives. Additives reduce the absorbency so much that this type of finish can be used in rooms with high humidity. With some types of additives, they can be mounted in places of direct contact with water - near bathtubs, washstands. They can be mounted in bathrooms, as kitchen aprons.

Whether water resistant or not, gypsum interior wallboards can be painted. This is probably the only option for painting. Paint can be any. Its type is selected according to the tasks: if wet cleaning is expected, the paint must be resistant to washing; if gypsum panels mounted on the walls of the pool are painted, paint with a waterproof effect is needed (or varnished over).

3D gypsum panels in the interior of the dining room, living room - just what the doctor ordered ... Longitudinal or horizontal arrangement - you choose, square slabs 50 * 50 cm, as you turn, it will be Coloring and lighting - the secret of a bright interior One of the most perfect imitations masonry - in gypsum panels Volumetric figures on 3D wall panels In the bedroom you can find an unobtrusive pattern

Installation of gypsum boards for wall decoration - on glue. If the surface is flat, you can directly on the wall, if there are differences, you must either level the wall or mount the crate. Take universal glue, but make sure it is suitable for the materials used and can withstand a sufficient load. One plate weighs about 2-4 kg. Not too much, but also a lot.

The seams between the plates can be left, or you can make a seamless surface. The choice depends on the type of relief and the type of room. There are obviously "square" slabs, so the seams look attractive. Just keep in mind that it is better not to do them in the bathroom or kitchen - extra problems when cleaning. There are no such problems with living rooms - there is no strong pollution here.

Bamboo trim panels

Not too common, but an interesting option is bamboo wall panels for interior decoration. They are made from bamboo cut into strips, which are then interlaced into slabs of various sizes. After that, the material is pressed, painted and varnished. Such bamboo panels are suitable for interiors in ethnic style, and more of an oriental orientation. The resulting braid has a different thickness - from 1 mm to 7 mm. Depending on the thickness, bamboo panels are glued to the ceiling (1-3 mm thick) or walls (from 4 mm and thicker).

The room can have an oriental style. Bamboo and cork also look organic side by side.

There is another technology for the production of bamboo wall panels. In this case, the stems are crushed to fibers, pressed at a high temperature. This is how eco-panels 3D made of bamboo are obtained. The same technology produces a similar material of their cellulose, cane. The variety of patterns here is no less than in gypsum counterparts, and the thermal conductivity is slightly less. Of the shortcomings - they do not belong to the category of non-combustible materials. And one more thing: they are produced in China, Thailand, in Russia there is no production yet.

The method of mounting these volumetric finishing panels is with glue. The seams are putty, leveled. The surface can be painted, but it must first be coated with a primer - to reduce and even out the absorbency and so that the paint lies more evenly. It is better to apply paint from a spray gun - it is difficult to paint over the relief with a brush and it is completely impossible with a roller.

Metal panels for interior decoration

Wall panels for interior decoration are not used very often. Metal is not associated, we have its brilliance with the comfort of home. Occasionally they can be seen in high-tech, loft, minimalism, art deco interiors. As a rule, they make out an accent wall. In the most avant-garde interiors, metal wall panels can be seen on the ceiling.

In high-tech, polished or brushed stainless steel is used, in loft and art deco, it can be painted or artificially “rusted” black steel. Steel plates, but painted in grey, black, red, can be minimalist.

Due to the resistance to water and moisture, stainless steel panels can be seen as a kitchen f

artuk. In general, this is a good option for finishing balconies and loggias. There are metal panels covered with a layer of colored polymer. They are used for, so that on unheated balconies they are not afraid of anything. By the way, there are corrugated metal panels that are perfect for a false ceiling in wet rooms (bathroom, pool) and will not interfere with ventilation.

Glass and mirror

Wall panels for interior decoration made of glass and mirrors appeared a few years ago. As a rule, they are mounted on previously painted surfaces, protecting them from moisture. This technique works well in rooms with high humidity - bathrooms, kitchens. Glass is used tempered, consisting of several layers fastened together by a transparent polymer. Similar glasses are used as entrance doors. So as a decoration on the walls they are safe.

If the painted walls in the bathroom are closed with glass panels, there will be no demolition of such a finish With photo printing Mirrors are a great way to make the interior unusual

There are still new trends - photo printing on glass. With the help of new technologies, any pattern or even a photograph is applied to the glass. Since such decorative panels still remain translucent, the wall must be painted over. But the choice of color and tone depends on the desired effect.

Another non-standard type of wall panels is from mirrors. They are also made from durable, film-glued sheets. Making a wall completely mirrored is not always a good idea, but making the stripes vertical or horizontal is an interesting idea. The interior immediately becomes fashionable and dynamic.

Decorative cladding of indoor surfaces is an important stage in construction or renovation, and you can choose different materials for this, for example, MDF wall panels for interior decoration. But there are other options, which we will consider further.

We will not consider wallpaper here, although such a solution suggests itself in the first place. We are more interested in decorative panels. Since ancient times, in stone houses, the walls were covered with fabric, which was the simplest solution, but wooden panels enjoyed the greatest success. Ordinary smooth ones could be seen in the housing of a person with moderate incomes, and carved ones already spoke of a high status. Today, both options are quite affordable for everyone, in addition, there are also 3D panels made of natural wood. Panels made of MDF, fiberboard and even chipboard are also quite popular, although the latter belong to the economy class and do not have high decorative properties.

Room after interior decoration

Considerable success is enjoyed by budgetary plastic wall coverings, which are usually made in the form of narrow long strips. As a rule, polyvinyl chloride or, otherwise, PVC is used as a material. Less well-known are glass panels, which are made in the form of stained-glass windows for decorative purposes. This option is quite expensive, but with careful installation is durable. It is worth mentioning 3D coatings, which are made from various materials, including natural wood and MDF. Quite expensive and therefore not available to everyone bamboo wall cladding. Even more rarely, in residential premises, walls are sheathed with aluminum panels, which often have a relief or perforated surface.

Today, a new material for finishing surfaces in the house is also in vogue - gypsum vinyl, related to drywall, but having a decorative vinyl layer. This option is not too expensive, and therefore quite suitable for experimenting with it. And, finally, we will mention such a type of sheathing as soft panels. They are interesting in that they can be used for practical purposes, for example, in the bedroom, such a coating will serve as a ready-made headboard for the bed, and in the living room - for an ottoman that does not have a back. And the rarest material in use is stone veneer. We will talk about it separately, since such panels are far from being found on sale everywhere.

Many have some prejudice against such materials and often not in vain, since the quality of boards pressed from shavings or crushed wood fibers is different, including mediocre. In particular, chipboard made from sawdust bonded with a binder is very vulnerable to moisture and therefore should not be used in or near a bathroom. In addition, the strength of such panels leaves much to be desired; during processing, their structure is easily destroyed.

Wood fiber boards for wall decoration

Therefore, walls are sheathed with such sheets, usually in cases where an economical solution is required. However, the fragility of the material is compensated by the rich palette of the outer layer, as well as a large number of beautiful textures. But it is better to sheathe them with walk-through rooms. Fiberboard is much more reliable for the simple reason that shredded wood fiber is used to make such panels, and not shavings with sawdust. In addition, there are separate brands that can withstand exposure to moisture for a long time without swelling or warping. Decorative wall panels made of fiberboard are very often used for interior wall decoration in living rooms, as they fully correspond to wood, but are cheaper and often have a beautiful relief, including 3D. But for the bedroom, this option is not very good, you can use such plates in the living room, study, library, dining room.

In principle, moisture-resistant series are quite suitable for the kitchen, but they should not be installed in the bathroom, a high concentration of steam in the air is enough for the skin to swell and exfoliate.

The most durable and reliable option is, but it is also the most expensive of pressed materials, since such sheets have a very high density of fibrous structure. Remarkably, this type of wall covering is best processed, and therefore textured sheathing boards with complex relief (in particular, 3D) or even carved ones are made on the basis of MDF. Installation is allowed in any residential premises for the simple reason that the binder is lignite, which is contained in wood fibers and is released when they are pressed under high temperatures. That is, you can cover the walls with such panels in the bedroom. Moisture-resistant series are perfect for the kitchen and even for the bathroom with a high-quality hood.

In terms of its popularity and prevalence, this material is not inferior to pressed boards, since it is located approximately in the same price category. Of course, there are both budget series and very expensive ones. The price mainly depends on the number of stiffeners connecting the front and back sides of the hollow sheet, as well as on the thickness of the material. Affects the cost and design of the decorative layer, the complexity of the texture. Well, of course, brand fame, although some well-known manufacturers produce quite affordable series.

Finishing the balcony with plastic panels

However, unlike pressed wood boards, plastic sheets are far from suitable for all rooms; as a rule, they are not used in living rooms and are very rarely used in hallways. Basically, such a sheathing is mounted in the bathroom, less often - in the kitchen and loggia. The main advantages of PVCin the environmental friendliness of the material, because both food packaging and water pipes are made of polyvinyl chloride, as well as in resistance to heat. If chipboard and fiberboard ignite already at 250 degrees, then plastic panels can withstand temperatures up to 370 degrees.

But even when ignited, they emit relatively little smoke and toxic substances, unlike pressed boards. Attaching PVC sheathing is very easy thanks to special locks, especially if you use guides. Having done everything right, you will get an excellent and inexpensive moisture-resistant coating for the walls of the bathroom or toilet. The disadvantage of such a material lies in its high fragility, a slight impact is enough for a clearly visible deformation to appear on the surface.

This type of wall covering is quite unusual for residential premises, as it is used more often in public places, for decorating restaurant and cafe halls, theater and museum lobbies, business center lobbies. That is, in fact, glass panels are usually used in commercial buildings. But even in residential premises with the help of such a finish, you can create a very original design. The choice today is quite rich: glass painted during casting or only on the back side, triplexes with images inserted inside, as well as decoracryl. The latter is a polymer of varying degrees of transparency, it is more durable, but less resistant to scratches.

An example of decorative glass panels

In addition, there are other variants of glass panels, for example, with patterns and complex images, made by sandblasting the surface. There are also models engraved or with complex cast relief. The latter look especially impressive in the form of stained-glass windows, when the image is combined with an appropriately executed texture. And, finally, an interesting option with photo printing, when the printed glass is baked with ultraviolet light, and then subjected to heat treatment so that the paint is sintered with the glass. To protect the decorative layer from damage, the panels are often varnished or laminated. Corrosion resistance allows these panels to be used in bathrooms and kitchens.

Now consider what are the ways of fastening the panel for wall decoration. First of all, of course, gluing is a fairly common option, but it requires careful leveling of the surface. Another quite affordable way is on profiles or crates. Bolted fasteners are also often used. Another type of installation is cutting a shallow recess in the wall according to the size of the panel, installing a special box to strengthen the glass in it. The simplest solution is to hang a decorative plate on the wall, like a picture, that is, either in a frame or as it is, with hinges attached to the glass. Similar methods are suitable for wall decoration both in the living room and in the bedroom.

Sometimes it is necessary to make repairs in the house quickly, without spending too much time on finishing work. In this case, panels are needed. In particular, drywall can be replaced with a similar material, in which the outer protective surfaces are not made of cardboard, but of vinyl sheets. That is, the principle of installation is the same, but in the end you get a finished room immediately after the completion of the wall cladding.

Gypsum vinyl wall coverings

It is noteworthy that such panels have a lot of different colors and their shades and the same number of patterned textures (including wood-like ones), which will allow you to create any design in the room. Moreover, gypsum vinyl is suitable not only as a wall covering, but also for the construction of partitions, when you need to divide a large area room into several parts. A similar solution (using panels as a partition) is suitable for an attic or for separating a small office from a large living room in one of its corners. Also, with the help of gypsum vinyl, you can easily equip a separate dressing room in the bedroom.

The thickness of the material is usually 12 millimeters, but the dimensions can be different, both 2.5x1.2 meters and 0.3x1.2. It should be noted that the fire hazard of the material is medium, but the smoke generation is very low, while the smoke has little toxicity, which makes it possible to use such panels for finishing sleeping quarters. Thanks to the polymeric decorative layer, gypsum vinyl has a fairly high resistance to high humidity, but it is still unsuitable for the bathroom.

More recently, such sheathing was at the height of fashion, novelty made it popular. However, even today it is a rather unusual way to decorate a room, accessible, however, to many. Of course, it all depends on what material the 3D panels are made of. If it is MDF, the cost will be relatively low, but bamboo sheets or natural wood coverings will be quite expensive. If we remember about glass and aluminum panels, then such options can be attributed, rather, to elite cladding materials.

Using 3D panels for decoration

By the way, there is another, quite budgetary option - gypsum boards, reinforced inside with steel mesh, they are not very strong, but they can have a complex relief of the front surface. MDF can only be the basis of 3D cladding, and the decorative layer is often made from the same gypsum and plastic, and is covered with enamel or a thin PVC film on top for greater durability. 3D coatings can be attached to special profiles, like drywall, and some models are also equipped with locks for connecting to the guides of a pre-installed frame.

Also great for installation is a crate made of wooden beams. Another method is adhesive, which is suitable for almost all cladding materials, provided that the wall surfaces are perfectly even. Such panels are very rarely planted on bolts, mostly only aluminum ones, for the reason that uncovered hats somewhat spoil the appearance of decorative wall cladding. You can not cover the entire wall with such panels; they are perfectly used as a separate design element, for example, as a panel. Due to the high cost, they are most often trimmed with living rooms; aluminum or glass tiles can be fixed in the bathroom.

Earlier, we have already voiced the option when the walls in the bedroom or in the living room can be upholstered with soft panels. Now let's get to know them better. Of course, they are made from several different materials, and the base is most often perforated chipboard or fiberboard. Foam rubber or synthetic winterizer is laid on top, in which holes are also cut. Then all this is covered with dense fabric or leather, quilted, attracted to the base through the holes with large buttons - and the soft panel is ready.

Soft panels in the bedroom

It is best to fix it, of course, on the crate, with screws with wide caps. Moreover, knowing the technology, such wall cladding can be made independently. Sometimes one panel is enough to make the room much more comfortable. It is not recommended to mount in the bathroom even if there is leather upholstery. A completely different matter is stone veneer. It is a hard, but at the same time elastic material, made from the thinnest sections of natural stone, most often slate. This section is glued to the fiberglass fabric, due to which it gains the ability to bend.

Although, of course, it will not work to fold in half or strongly bend the stone veneer, a fracture mark will immediately appear on its surface. Often the lining is given the effect of an aged tree. Recently, the popularity of "lining" has declined slightly, giving way to more modern materials, but cottages, summer kitchens and loggias are trimmed with this particular type of cladding.

Today you can buy combined wood panels, the cost of which is much lower. The front layer of such products is valuable varieties of wood applied to a pine or spruce base. The development of technology has made it possible to produce such high-quality finishing materials from the waste of the woodworking industry (sawdust, wood chips). Chipboard and fiberboard

Pretty cheap stuff. Chipboard and fiberboard, as these well-known abbreviations are deciphered, can add warmth and sound insulation to the room, decorate it, however, the high content of formaldehyde resins in the boards, the unstable outer coating and the rapid deformation from moisture and steam have greatly reduced the popularity of this material for finishes recently.

Chipboard and fiberboard are more often used to level walls for finishing

MDF

This is a more modern improved version of chipboard. It is sometimes erroneously referred to as modified plywood. The first to produce this material was Medium Density Fibreboard. The first three letters formed its name Instead of formaldehyde resins, vegetable lignin is used in production. MDF panels are more durable, they better withstand high humidity. They have a very long service life, while being easy to maintain and do not emit harmful compounds into the air.

Panels can be lacquered, often veneered with precious woods, laminated or coated with water-repellent compounds. The material can withstand heavy loads, you can safely attach heavy objects to them, such as paintings or bookshelves. Today, such panels are used more often in the decoration of office space, in home decoration, you want something more refined and at the same time cozy.

The quality of PVC panels offered to the consumer has also improved significantly. Today, they do not fade; better quality plastic is used in the manufacture. When choosing, it is better to give preference to Russian or European manufacturers.

The disadvantage is that the abundance of plastic in the house can increase the humidity in it, for the decoration of living rooms (living room, nursery, bedroom), it is better to use more environmentally friendly and natural materials.

Partial decoration with PVC panels also looks beautiful

There is only one drawback, when they are mounted on the crate, the area of \u200b\u200bthe room decreases. If this is not noticeable in large rooms, then for rooms with a small area, it can become a problem.

When installing gypsum vinyl panels for walls for interior decoration, up to 5 cm can be lost from each wall

What to consider when choosing

The most important thing when choosing wall panels is that they must comply with sanitary standards and not be fire hazardous.

Toxicity, flammability, smoke level must be indicated on the label. The value is from 1 to 4, the higher it is, the worse the quality of the product.

Do not take the cheapest panels. Their service life is not one year, let them be beautiful and of high quality, so that the results of the repair are a pleasure. When buying, carefully consider the appearance, chips and cracks should not be. Choose materials from the same batch to avoid color differences. Various types of wall panels for interior decoration allow you not to limit yourself in your choice.

The choice of color and material allows you to run wild fantasies

About fastening features

The next thing to pay attention to is how the panels are supposed to be attached to the wall. You can fix it with glue, or assemble a crate to which individual parts will be mounted.

Lathing - a special design of wooden bars or a metal profile. Fastened to the wall with dowels and is the basis for fixing wall panels.

If the room is damp and cold, it is better to stop at aluminum profiles. A wooden structure in such conditions quickly becomes unusable. For dry and warm rooms, the crate is made of wood.

Plastic and slatted panels for interior wall cladding are fastened together using a tongue-and-groove locking connection.

A wooden crate is being erected, panels are attached to its planks with the help of clamps (the so-called special staples). Sometimes parquet nails or self-tapping screws are used for fastening.

Fastening panels "groove-groove". To join the panels, special plastic or metal profiles are used, which, after installation, perform a decorative function.

Slots when docking "groove-groove", even if they are noticeable, look neat

When docking "groove-groove", the gaps between the materials are almost invisible

If the wall is flat, and it is supposed to be lined with soft panels made of fabric or leather, glue can be used. Usually, “liquid nails” are used for installation. At the next repair, cleaning the walls in this case may require additional efforts. It will have to be levelled. Light sheet wall panels for interior decoration can also be mounted on glue.

Important! panels can only be glued to perfectly flat walls.
