What to make a Christmas tree for a snow globe. New Year's souvenir - do-it-yourself snow in a jar. Let's start creating a snow globe

Fantasy is limitless for the realization of creative ideas and the creation of a unique New Year's interior. Listed original crafts and an unusual jar of snow - it’s not difficult to make it with your own hands. A ball with snow, in which, when shaken, snowflakes swirl and bizarre New Year's figurines float, for almost everyone - a distant childhood memory.

A master class for creating a do-it-yourself winter plot phantasmagoria in an ordinary glass jar is incredibly simple. Shall we try?

Decor materials

To create a New Year's jar of snow, we need a tall and straight glass container with a twisting iron lid with a volume of about 1 liter, loose foam or artificial snow, minifigures that will inhabit a jar of snow. Our decor includes a green Christmas tree and a funny snowman with a sled.

To create a unique New Year's decor The choice of miniature toys is quite wide. The main thing is to fit in the bank. Santa Claus and deer, Christmas tree, Snow Maiden, gnomes, forest animals in the snow, in a word, everything that is somehow connected with the New Year and Christmas holidays.

It is worth thinking about a platform-stand for figures in a jar of snow. This can be a do-it-yourself pedestal made from a piece of wood, foam or cardboard. Use white cotton or wool balls small size. You can make them yourself or buy them at a craft store. You will also need a needle, fishing line, glue/tape.

Step-by-step algorithm of work

stylized New Year's jar in a festive interior will be an excellent decoration for any room: living room, kitchen, nursery. Considering that you will make this miracle with your own hands, a festive atmosphere will appear in the house already during the creative process.

  1. We thread the fishing line into the needle and string cotton or woolen balls onto the fishing line. To fix them, we use a glue drop or a drop of nail polish (colorless) on one side of the middle of the ball.
  2. At the bottom of the jar we attach a platform for a mini-toy. Glue and double-sided tape will help with this.
  3. We install miniature figures on the bottom of the can, still without snow, and attach them so that they do not hang out when the can moves.
  4. We sprinkle the glass bottom of the jar with artificial snow or loose foam so as to completely cover the "podium". By the way, artificial snow for a can is quite simple to make with your own hands. There are many on the Internet original recipes its manufacture.
  5. The crucial moment is “snow” in the bank. We fasten the impromptu garland with hot glue or tape to the screw cap. Eight to ten "cotton-snow" threads of different lengths - best option for the New Year's decor of our magic jar.
  6. The final touch is to close the container with a lid with fixed garlands and twist it. The snow bank is ready!

Fantasy will tell you the decor for winter, Easter, autumn jars in which you can use natural materials and a creative set of handmade figurines, toys, accessories.

The shape of the jar itself may also be interesting. The more unusual the glass container, the more intricate the picture inside can be. And the reason for creating with your own hands and using a “can” decor can arise at any time.

It is not difficult to make it with your own hands, and at the same time, almost all of its components can be found at home.

DIY snow globe | Components

  • Jar with screw cap. Ideally, the lid should seal tightly. If you take a jar and a lid from ready-made canned food, do not count on tightness. I took a jar of compote, so I had to reinforce and glue the threads to prevent leakage.
  • Decorations. Well suited for this role Christmas decorations. Houses and Christmas trees look especially good with snow from above. I didn’t take this moment into account right away, so I had to take a lot of shots so that Grandfather Frost’s face would not hide in the snow.
  • Glue. Glue is needed to stick the decoration to the lid. Many praise the glue gun, but buying it specifically for snow globe I didn't want to. I used a tube of super glue.
  • Snow simulation. It can be artificial snow, glitter, or even shredded white plastic dishes. I bought ordinary silver sequins, but in the process I realized that they do not fit color scheme to our ball. artificial snow in small town not so easy to find, so I had to limit myself to homemade "snow" from plastic packaging from toys.

Homemade artificial snow

  • Glycerol. It is needed so that the "snow" falls slowly. It does this by increasing the viscosity of the water. The amount of glycerin depends on the type of "snow" chosen. Large "snowflakes" will require more glycerin. I have a 400 ml jar. it took 4 bottles of glycerin 25 gr. With the proportions of water and glycerin 1: 1, snowflakes will float in the water almost without sinking to the bottom.
  • Water. If you decide to make a ball for long-term storage or as a gift, then you will need distilled water and some kind of disinfectant for jewelry. There is no guarantee that the jewelry is sterile and their microbes will not cloud the water. For a ball that is not going to be stored for a long time, any clean, clear water will do. I used tap water. The first time I was unlucky, there was a whitish precipitate in the jar, which spoiled appearance. For the second time, I used pre-settled water.
  • Rubber medical gloves . They are needed if you are not sure about the tightness of the lid. Gloves are convenient to use as a sealant for threads.

Hello dear readers! We all know factory glass balls with liquid and beautiful composition, which, when shaken, “activate” the snowfall inside the container, but not everyone knows that a similar item can be made independently. That is why today we will tell you how to make a snow globe with your own hands, practically from improvised materials. We recommend that children be involved in the process of creating such a wonderful object, it will be very interesting for them to observe and possibly even participate in its recreation.

Handmade glass ball with snow.

What you need:

  1. A small jar with a screw cap (you can buy glass jar with baby puree).
  2. Nail polish.
  3. Polymer glue or Moment.
  4. White tinsel or artificial snow.
  5. Scissors.
  6. White and silver glitter.
  7. A suitable figurine is clay, ceramic or plastic (sold in any souvenir department).
  8. Glycerin (can be bought for about 8 rubles at absolutely any pharmacy).
  9. Purified water (distilled or purified by a household water filter).

How to make a snow globe with your own hands.

We cut the white tinsel very finely with scissors, cut it as small as possible, since in water even the smallest particles will visually appear large.

We paint the lid of the jar with matching nail polish. Pay attention also to the inner walls of the lid, since more often than not the product will be upside down, which means that possible unpainted places will be striking.

After the varnish on the lid has hardened, we glue the selected figure to its inner part. We used a figurine of the Moscow Kremlin, it’s a pity that the inscription on it is in English, but apparently in Moscow such products are purchased more often by foreign tourists than our compatriots, since literally all souvenirs are full of English engravings.

You can put figures from under the kinder surprise, small figurines or small children's toys inside your snow globe. We recommend going to the gift shop and picking up a tiny plastic Christmas tree or a snowman. If you don’t feel like looking for a souvenir shop around the city, visit any hypermarket, they usually have departments with similar trinkets.

Try to pick up small figures. Glass with water will act as a magnifying glass, so a large composition will appear bloated and dimensionless.

Now we proceed to the next more interesting step, pour glycerin into a jar, look at the photo below, how much we poured it into a small container. The amount of glycerin will determine the speed of rotation of snowflakes, the more it is, the slower they will spin. Many are interested in the question, is it possible to make a snow globe without glycerin just on the water? The answer is no, without glycerin, snowflakes will immediately fall to the bottom of the container, while with it they can circle around the composition inside the jar for quite some time.

We also pour purified water into a jar of glycerin to the top, it is important that the water is crystal clear, which is why we recommend using either distilled water or simply purified in a home filter.

Well, here we come to the most interesting moment. Pour half a teaspoon of previously chopped white tinsel or prepared artificial snow into the jar. We mix it with a teaspoon, and we see how our snowflakes “came to life”. Do not pour a lot of snow, otherwise the composition itself will not be visible behind the snowfall.
Snow globe with your own hands.

Pour 1/3 teaspoon of white and silver sparkles here. We mix everything thoroughly. Here I would like to say that the item with sparkles, in principle, can be skipped altogether, one snow will be quite enough.

We close the jar with a lid on which the figure is fixed. Turn the lid with special care so that the liquid does not start to leak out. Ideally, the lid should be treated with a layer of adhesive with inside, and only after that twist.
Snow globe with your own hands.

At the end, the neck of the jar can be decorated with rhinestones, tied with a ribbon with a bow or made from polymer clay effective stand. We decided to leave our snow globe with an open lid and neck, we didn’t want to burden the composition with unnecessary details.

Before you take the snow globe with your own hands, wipe it with a napkin to remove the prints left during its creation. Now we shake our snow globe and admire the snowfall, as well as the playful overflow of white and silver glitter.

Today you learned how to make a snow globe with your own hands, we hope this master class was exhaustive, but in any case, if you still have questions, or they arose in the process of creating a similar composition, feel free to ask them in the comments, with pleasure we will answer.

They say that the first snow globe was created in the 16th century. True, it was not quite "snowy", but filled with "just" water, in which birds swam. The documented first snow globe was demonstrated at the Paris Exhibition in 1878, inside it was a figure of a man with an open umbrella. A year later, such balls were produced by five large European companies. Peak popularity in UK and US snow globes came in the 20s of the last century. By this time, a wide variety of scenes and views could be found inside the glass spheres, and the balls gradually began to be associated with Christmas.
Each manufacturer had his own secret of the composition of the liquid and "snow". Initially, the balls were crystal on a ceramic stand, the water was spring water, and the snow was cut from the smallest pieces of porcelain or bone. Then crystal became glass, porcelain and bone were replaced with white sand and pieces of foil. Now the balls are most often made entirely of plastic, and the snow is rubbed on a grater of plastic pipe. In order for the snow to fall most naturally and slowly, glycerin is added to the water. On sale there were balls with a gap in the middle, into which you can insert own photo. And most of the Christmas balls began to be produced in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. A rotation mechanism is mounted in the stand so that it is not necessary to shake the ball (so that snow begins to fall), often together with music box. Light bulbs are inserted into the balls. In the USA they sell inflatable snowballs made of transparent vinyl, by the way, you can inflate them to a very large sizes, so they are often used for decoration, for example, shopping centers. Limited editions for fabulous money are sold by famous fashion houses - from Chanel And Louis Vuitto n to Lanvin And Christian Dior.

Snow globes are traditionally collected, the largest collection to date is held by a resident of Nuremberg (about 8,000 balls). And this is not surprising, because there are not so many "real" snow globes produced. The Austrian Erwin Perzi was the first to obtain a patent for their manufacture, who constantly experimented with lighting effects and fluorescent lamps and did it in the kitchen. Once he poured semolina into the water of the lamp, and when it swelled and began to slowly settle, it reminded him of falling snow. Then Erwin placed a tiny model of the famous Austrian Mariazellerkirche inside the lamp and gave his creation to the nearest souvenir shop. The success was so great that in 1900 he and his brother opened a snow globe factory in Vienna, which is still in operation today. Gradually, the assortment of the factory expanded - Christmas scenes appeared, the diameter of the balls changed, and in the 90s of the last century, a museum was created at the factory. The snow globes at this factory are still made by hand, and half of the employees work from home.

By the way, you can also try to make a snow globe with your own hands!

YOU WILL NEED:
a glass container with a tight-fitting lid - we took a plastic ball with a lid for crafts, small figurines, distilled water, glycerin solution, glitter or artificial snow, glue for plastic.

TIP If you want to make a ball without falling "snow", replace the glycerin solution with a drop of dishwashing detergent.

HOW TO DO: turn the glass container upside down (we put our ball in a cup). Glue the figurines to the inside of the lid. If you want to make a "vault" from which snow will fall, then mix glitter or artificial snow with glue and apply the mixture to the bottom of the container. Let the glue dry completely.

Fill the container with distilled water mixed with glitter. Add glycerin to the water until you get a (very) batter consistency: the more glycerin you add, the thicker the liquid will become and the slower the “snow will fall”.
Apply glue to the junction of the neck of the container with the lid (distribute the glue evenly, leaving no places uncovered with glue!) and put on the lid. Let the glue dry completely, turn the container upside down and make sure that the liquid does not leak.
