Rack racks are designed to install and fix various equipment. Most often, this type of rack is designed for audio equipment, but it is also used to mount network equipment. The rack rack allows you to concentrate in one place a large number of components of one system, which significantly reduces the switching time of the equipment.

For network equipment, in most cases, open rack racks are used, often they can replace installation cabinets, since they perform the same functions. There are several types of communication racks: a large number equipment, or devices of small dimensions. - Two-frame - allow you to mount equipment at four fixation points. These rack racks are more massive, and therefore capable of carrying very heavy equipment of large dimensions. - Server rack racks - designed specifically for mounting server equipment. They have an even more rigid structure and the ability to withstand significant loads. Server racks are also equipped with slots for installing additional network components.

The most demanded today is the 19″ rack rack. It is used to install 19″ network and communication equipment. As a rule, such a rack is made of sheet steel to withstand the weight of the equipment. The surface of the structure is treated with a special polymer coated on a powder basis, which gives the rack a pleasant appearance and prevents wear of moving elements. The 19" rack is suitable for most types of equipment, taking into account the height of the fasteners.

The 12u rack is a steel box with big amount ports. The design has one-piece side panels, and in most cases is equipped with wheels, which allows you to easily and quickly move the equipment in desired point. The 8u rack has the same advantages, but unlike the 12u, it has a lower height and, accordingly, fewer equipment slots. 8u and 12u racks can be used to mount routers, uninterruptible hubs and other network equipment.

Rack rack floor - the most convenient type of communication racks in operation. This design is able to hide a lot of equipment inside and saves space to a large extent. It is floor racks that are equipped with modern server rooms and even huge data centers with huge amount equipment. Floor racks are as simple as possible in operation - it is easy to assemble a communication node from them, and if necessary, quickly transport it to the right place. Very often, floor racks have a non-standard appearance, which makes it possible to use them to create the interior design of a server room.

Many users of professional equipment are interested in the question of whether it is possible to assemble a rack rack on their own, with their own hands at home. You can find a lot of drawings on the net and detailed instructions rack making. However, it is worth knowing that such designs are good only for local needs and work with equipment at home. For the full operation of the server room, use homemade racks strongly discouraged as they are unable to guarantee the required minimum level of structural rigidity. Therefore, the operation of such racks is extremely unreliable and exposes network equipment to unnecessary risk.

A specialist from a network equipment company spoke about the racks

rack rack serves for installation and fastening of devices of the sound equipment. Equipment switching time is significantly reduced when a rack is used.

Rack rack: types and applications.

Almost all devices are manufactured in a standard rack version:

  • length of the device, taking into account the fastening elements - 483 mm (19 inches);
  • instrument height is a multiple of U = 44 mm; that is, there may be 1U (44mm), 2U (88mm), 3U (132mm), etc. devices.

Exceptions are small sound processing devices (half the rack length) and small mixing consoles. However, small appliances are typically manufactured in 1U heights and exist special devices to combine two such devices in order to install them in a rack. And the set of small ones (starting from the number of channels 4 mono plus 2 stereo) includes “rack ears”. With their help, the remote is installed in a standard rack rack.

The use of rack racks is appropriate when operating several devices. There is no need to switch and unplug the equipment every time. And all devices are in one place.

Racks can be conditionally divided into those intended for static installation and those used for traveling work.

Static stands.

As the name implies, these racks are used for static work. Devices are installed in the rack, and they practically do not move it anymore.

Racks can be desktop and floor, straight and inclined, on wheels or stands. The height of the rack depends on the number of devices that need to be installed in it.

For transportation with installed appliances such racks are practically not suitable. For this, other options for mounting devices have been developed.

Racks for traveling work.

In the case of active traveling work, it is appropriate to use a completely different type of racks. As a rule, these are rack cases. They are made of metal, plywood or durable plastic. There are necessarily side handles for carrying (which, as a rule, is absent on "static" racks). Many models of cases are equipped with wheels for easier transportation.

The dimensions of the case depend on the number of devices that you want to install in it. But all cases are made as compact as possible. After all, they are made so that they can be loaded into a car and transported. At the same time, the cases themselves are very durable, as they are designed for the harsh conditions of traveling activities.

As a rule, the back wall of such a case is removable. This is done so that the amplifiers are better cooled during operation of the equipment. And it was also possible to quickly replace failed switching wires.

Homemade stands.

In 2003, I realized the need for a rack. It was necessary to create something universal, suitable for both static and traveling work. At the time, I didn't have a lot of sound equipment, but I designed the rack with perspective. I drew on paper a project that was suitable for me and realized what was needed to implement it. Then I went to the metal base. There, for very little money, I bought the right amount steel angles and strips cut to the required length. And started making rack.

In two weeks I made an open three-section non-welded rack, fastened with bolts. The sections were divided by corners, on which, like on skids, devices were installed:

  • lower section 2U high, for installing a removable amplifier;
  • middle section with a height of 3U, for installing a non-removable amplifier and;
  • top section 1U high for installation of non-removable ;
  • The "rack ears" that came with the mixing console, I installed horizontally, fastening them to the longitudinal side strips that hold the rack together. Thus, the top cover was obtained, on which, with the help of simple devices, I strengthened the compressor. And already on the compressor I installed a mixer and an effects processor that were not fixed.

In the process of use, mine was equipped in all corners with shock absorbers made of rubber hoses cut along the longitudinal axis.

Subsequently, I improved it with the help of aluminum strips and corners. It turned out such an inclined removable design, for 3 more processing devices.

A little later, I decided to modify the upper "puller" to an independent desktop rack for an active crossover. In case the lower bulky rack is not required. Here's what happened:

As you know, laziness is one of the best engines progress. For some events that required a small amount of equipment, I did not want to carry a rack with me. And I came up with an alternative. It consisted in the manufacture of rack connectors: for fastening two devices (each 1U high), and for fastening three of the same devices. In the latter case, it was possible to connect a 1U device to a 2U device.

Connectors are ordinary metal or plastic strips 12 mm wide and 2 mm thick. Their length corresponds to the height of two or three devices placed on top of each other. Holes are drilled along the central axis of the connectors, corresponding to the holes of the device fastening elements. After that, the devices are fastened to each other with M6 bolts and the corresponding nuts.

Recently I thought of using an ordinary plastic case for transporting three processing devices (, equalizer, crossover) fastened with connectors. I just sealed the inside of the case with foam rubber on all sides. And it turned out what was needed. In the meantime, it didn’t dawn on me, I carried switching wires in this case.

Another insight - 2 vertical racks for 2 devices each, made by me from improvised materials that were lying under my feet in my office. WITH minimal cost for their manufacture. After the New Year campaign at the end of 2017, it became necessary to place processing devices not behind the back, but in front of the eyes. The result is this design:

Rack rack is a universal device for mounting equipment of structured cable systems, local computer networks, etc. The specificity of racks is that they are open type devices.

A specialist from the network equipment company https://e-server.com.ua will tell about the racks.

This provides one of the key advantages of this type of device - the ability to quickly and easily maintain the equipment in it, comfortable access to each component placed in it. But, at the same time, this determines the specifics of its placement. The rack rack must be installed only in specialized rooms closed to unauthorized persons (first of all, server rooms are meant). It is also possible to place racks in ordinary offices, but it is important that access to the office and, accordingly, to expensive equipment is limited to the circle of responsible specialists and company employees.

Manufacturers offer an extensive selection of rack models that differ not only in brand and country of manufacture. There are two main groups of devices of this type: single-frame and two-frame racks. Single-frame products are two vertical metal rails with a complex profile, connected from above by a horizontal bar and mounted on a flat base. The base in such racks is strong enough to ensure the stability of the entire structure. A single-frame rack rack, which you can buy in the EServer online store, allows you to fix equipment on special mounting holes at two points.

Two-frame racks differ from single-frame racks in the presence of a second frame, securely connected to the first. In such devices, the equipment is attached at four points. In view of design features two-frame telecommunication racks are more suitable for storing equipment with a large weight and dimensions. Single-frame usually accommodate small-sized devices with low weight. Regardless of specifications and type of racks, they are united common parameter- distance between vertical guides. In accordance with the generally accepted standard in the telecommunications industry, this distance is 19 inches. The bulk of devices that are used in telecommunication systems have a similar width. Thanks to this, patch panels, server cases, switches and other types of 19" equipment can be easily installed in racks.

The 19" rack can have different height. This characteristic is indicated in units - special units used to measure the height of telecommunications equipment. 1 unit is equal to 44.45 millimeters and is the minimum height of a communication device. Rack heights from 8U to 49U can easily be found on the market. Depending on the height of the devices, a suitable height is also determined. For example, if you need to place six 2U patch panels, then you need a rack with a height of at least 12U, and preferably a little more.

When a rack rack is selected, equipment dimensions are great importance. In this case, we are talking not only about the height of the devices, but also about their depth. The depth of two-frame racks varies from 400 to 750 millimeters. It is noteworthy that many models allow you to change the depth depending on the dimensions of the equipment. To do this, it is enough to install the rear frame closer or further from the front, as a result of which its range of possibilities is expanded.

The standard rack rack is compatible with various accessories designed to significantly expand its functionality, providing better, more reliable and safe storage of network equipment.

Rack rack is necessary for mounting and installation of various audio equipment. Modern equipment is small in size. And to accommodate a large amount of equipment, you can use a special rack. If necessary, you can make it yourself. The rack rack allows you to reduce the switching time of the equipment.

Application and dimensions

Most of the sound equipment is made in a standard rack design:

  1. The height of the apparatus, as a rule, is a multiple of U = 44 mm. This must be taken into account when making the rack. In other words, the equipment can be: 44, 88, 132 millimeters and so on.
  2. The height of the equipment, even with all the fasteners, is approximately 19 inches or 483 millimeters.

An exception in this case is equipment that is designed to process sound. It may be as little as half the rack length. This list should include and As a rule, the smallest devices are made with a height of 44 millimeters. In addition, there are special devices that allow you to combine several devices and install them in a rack. As for mixing consoles, everything is also thought out here. The kit usually includes rack ears. With the help of them you can easily install mixing consoles in a rack standard sizes. It's convenient enough.

A rack rack is very often used when operating several sound devices at once. Thanks to this device, there is no need to unplug the equipment. In this case, all devices are in one place.

Static rack

The rack rack can be used not only for static installation, but also for work on the road. There are several types.

Static rack. In this case, the device is installed in a certain place and no longer moves. The rack simply installs audio equipment. In this case, the product can be on stands, on wheels, inclined, straight, floor or wall.

The height of the rack rack is made so that you can easily place all the devices. Such products are not suitable for transportation together with audio equipment. This requires a completely different mount for the equipment.

Rack case

For traveling work. In this case, it is important to use not rack racks, but cases. They are made of durable plastic, plywood or metal. Such a product should be equipped with side handles for more convenient transfer. Many rack cases are equipped with wheels. This allows you to move the product without any problems.

The size of the cases depends on the amount of equipment that needs to be transferred. In this case, the product must be strong enough to withstand a lot of weight. In addition, rack cases must withstand the rigors of constant moving.

Is it possible to do it yourself

In some cases, a unique rack is required, for example, for both static and traveling work at the same time. It is almost impossible to buy such a product in specialized stores. In fact, a do-it-yourself rack rack is made very quickly and easily. First you need to create a layout, of course, on paper. Drawings allow you to quickly decide on necessary quantity material and other details.

In advance, it is worth preparing metal corners and strips, as well as body material. To do this, you can use plywood or wood. The main thing is that the material is strong enough. To strengthen the structure, you can use metal plates and corners.

How to make a rack

Rack desktop requires less materials. If there is no experience, then you can start with a similar design. You can fasten all the parts with ordinary bolts. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that there are no distortions. As a result, this will affect not only appearance product, but also on its stability.

Rack rack sections should be separated by corners. It's much more convenient. The height of the sections should be made different, for example, the first tier is 2U, the second is 3U, the third is 1U. This will allow you to install a non-removable crossover, devices for suppressing feedback, fixed amplifiers and other equipment.

To make the rack last longer, it is worth equipping it with shock absorbers. You can make them from ordinary rubber hose. To do this, the material should be cut along the longitudinal axis and the workpieces should be fixed. If desired, the rack can be equipped with wheels and handles. This will allow, if necessary, to quickly and easily move the structure along with the devices.

If the rack will be used for traveling work, then its back wall can be made removable. This will provide several benefits at once. The equipment will cool faster during operation. In addition, if necessary, it will be easy to replace damaged patch cords.
