Browsing through style history, different times that influenced interior design in general, furniture design and other interior details in particular, it is easy to trace one trend that occurs at the peak of the change in stylistic and interior preferences of a particular society (in different countries- differently).

This tendency to change opposites, when not just one stylistic direction, transforming and developing, grows into something new - but changes significantly or, in general, exactly the opposite.

For example, the serious and canonical Classicism style, when everything was in accordance with the law and nothing superfluous, was replaced by the lush and bright Baroque with its gold, curlicues, the brilliance of crystal and the softness of velvet.

Baroque, having calmed down a little in Rococo, in which gold was practically abandoned and bright blue color gentle pastel colors, gained militancy in the Empire, and returned to Classicism, only in its simpler and "poorer" version with the prefix Neo-.

Strict geometric shapes and ornaments of solid Art Deco gave way to sinuous contours and floral patterns of a lighter and freer Art Nouveau.
And then completely, the violent "bourgeois" spirit of the interiors, where leather and fur, natural dark wood, bronze and marble, gets tired of all these signs of wealth and dissolves in the desire for a quiet and clean Minimalism, in which there is only the necessary and does not smell of luxury...

Today in interior fashion there are both gold and gloss, so patina and "shabby", monochrome and a riot of colors, high-tech and ethno, a palace and a factory, plastic and wood, a fresco and a mirror, West and East ...
And indeed it is!

It all depends on the preferences of certain people or social group, depends on who and what has already managed to "get enough" and what to get tired of.

A few years ago, the popular glossy and lacquered surfaces of floors and walls, today have been replaced by their "grandfathers", exhausted like wrinkles with cracks and bumps, matte and washed out, as if they had seen everything in their long life.
And if the golden gloss of the "past days" remained, then also, in its "aged" version - muted, scratched and with a touch of patina, like a nugget - without shine and with a wormhole, but no less valuable for this.

So, one of the recent interior trends is the love for "traditions of the deep antiquity."

VINTAGE is in fashion! Vintage style in the interior!

Surfaces, textures and coatings, interior items and details should seem to be similar to those inherited from our great-grandmother noblewoman (or merchant's wife, at worst): aged and cracked, brushed and worn, patinated and scratched, etc.

The explanation for this, most likely, lies in the desire to join a certain history, to return and preserve family traditions, and for most of us - to create this history from scratch, with our own hands, adding to it at least a fraction of "pedigreed" aristocracy and "ancestral spirit".
And let it just be a remake "antique", and not the "old" itself and antique values. Although vintage interior items and antique furniture can be bought inexpensively from hand or even found in a landfill. If you restore and decorate vintage furniture with your own hands, it will last even longer. long years for its intended purpose, and not just as an interior decoration.

Do-it-yourself vintage style in the interior- how and from what it is possible to create something new, but with a touch of antiquity, which in the course of life over the years will acquire its own good history and the halo of a real vintage value?

It must be remembered that, like a person, not every object or material is capable of aging beautifully and at the same time becoming more attractive and valuable, being relevant and in demand.
This is given only to those in whom the "breed" is present.

Applicable to the interior, materials and details, their components and forms, should be traditional (in the sense of historical traditions) and kind of timeless: solid and durable, made from natural, not newly invented, materials using traditional (or old) technology, only with the use of manual labor (down with conveyor punching!), Carrying a certain creative idea or a legend laid down by the master.
In four words - Quality, Traditions, Handmade!

If the tree is natural and solid, and not veneer, and even more so there are all kinds of laminates, chipboard, fiberboard and others like them. And, preferably, hand-crafted wood ...
If it is plaster, then it is made from natural ingredients and applied by hand using the traditional "antique" technique, not in a newfangled way ... And drywall? - the horror of our days!)
If the fresco hand painted on plaster, not printing on non-woven ...
Use wallpaper to decorate the walls in slightly muted tones, as if a little faded and certainly traditional designs and only paper
Slightly exaggerating: better metal and stone - not plastic, wool and linen - not viscose. Checkered, flowers, damask and "cucumbers" as traditional patterns on fabrics.
And remember! Built-in wardrobe, albeit with a very skillfully "aged" surface or spotlight, or suspended ceiling, will not be able to give a mysterious vintage charm to the interior.)

As a decor, use old and antique interior items and household utensils - decorative cages, old mirrors, vintage bottles, openwork lampshades, antique wooden, clay or chinaware, lace and textiles with sewing or cloth, big clock semi-antique, old mannequins and suitcases, decoupage decor and decorative accessories in shabby chic style.

So that the house does not turn into a repository of unused and unnecessary antique or "antique" things, and the "cracked" or "rusted", "cracked" or "crumbled" interior did not let its owner feel like a ghost, a museum keeper or a native Cuban - Everything needs to be balanced.

Someone is looking for vintage “trophies” for a long time and finds, but creative personalities prefer to create them by hand. From old things, lace, as well as fabrics with a suitable pattern - what was in vogue several decades ago.

What is "vintage"?

The word came to us from winemaking: this is the name of elite wines made in the years when the grapes had excellent palatability. The longer the wine is aged, the better, more valuable and more expensive it is. In relation to things, these are old household items that have lived long life and well preserved. In a word, a dress that has lain for a century in a grandmother's chest, and not eaten by moths, can be safely called vintage.

An antique is considered a thing that is at least half a century old. For example, a book published before 1962, that is, 50 years ago, can be considered a rarity. Of course, the state of the copy, the publisher, and, finally, the content of the book are taken into account. For example, books on home economics and cookery published in Stalin's times are now highly valued.

In a word, in order to find interesting and useful things, sometimes it is enough to revise own house: among grandma's and grandpa's things, which we sometimes dismissively call rubbish.

DIY jewelry. Master class with step by step photos

There were times when handmade jewelry was considered a sign of lack of taste or money. Now designers are developing collections of jewelry, which sometimes cost much more than jewelry from precious metals with stones-members of the "royal four"!

The day before, in one Internet boutique, I came across photographs of original jewelry, the basis of which were ordinary keys to door locks, old, battered. Looking at the price tags, I was stunned: not a single product costs less than fifty "green candy wrappers" (that is, dollars, as you probably guessed)!

These jewelry are original and unique. Each key has its own story! What forbidden rooms were locked by them once, what reliable outpost of secrets were they "in life"?!
I was inspired to the core!
I had to urgently examine the contents of the pantry and - oh, joy! - a couple of keys were found, one of which served as the basis for a necklace in the "combined vintage" style.
This publication presents two master classes: the first one will reflect the fruit of my nightly vigils on creating a necklace based on an old key, the other one on decorating a pin in a vintage style (it comes as a “trailer” due to ease of work).

Target: creating jewelry in the styles of "vintage" and "combined vintage" with your own hands.
Tasks:

- improve the skills of working with the necessary materials and tools, observing the rules of safety;
- develop individual creative abilities, artistic taste;
- cultivate diligence, perseverance, accuracy in work.

old key,

Working process:
Let's start with something simpler. We decorate the pin in the style of "vintage".

Let's cook necessary materials and tools. Not everything will fit. Often, when doing such work, you do not know what the final result will be.

Take a ring from an old earring, since it has a hole in it.

With the help of tools, we will attach the links of the old chain to the ringlet.

Inside the ring we will place a decorative coin (then it will be replaced by another detail).

Attach the details to the non-working part of the pin.

At the opposite end of the pin, place a double piece from voluminous heart and beads, attaching the other end of the chain to them.

Now, decor options follow one after another: either "pearl + bead" pendants, or beads - pendants. We choose which details are more consistent with the chosen style.

Final result:

Advice on wearing such a pin: in the summer it is not at all necessary to pin it directly on the fabric of the clothes in order to avoid its deformation, you can throw it over the shoulder strap - why not?! In winter, you can pin a brooch by carefully threading it through the fibers of a sweater, for example.

Now let's start creating a necklace in the style of "combined vintage" (this style takes place when some details were produced no later than the end of the 80s of the 20th century) based on the key, fortunately, as a result of a long and nervous search in the "grandmother's chest" by me truly vintage details were found, such as a chain made of some kind of alloy, a vintage dragonfly pendant and a piece of gray linen - all this dates back to the beginning of the 80s of the last century.

In the photo, in addition to the above, there are details that were not useful.

The key, which cannot be called exclusive, is wrapped in a spiral with a strip of linen fabric and fixed with Moment Crystal glue.

We securely attach the chain to the key, as shown in the photo.

Sew a piece of lace with a metallic thread to a linen strip encircling the key.

Add some beads.

The rest is a matter of technique. We fix the remains of beads, coins and other details with the help of tools based on our key.

We sew original triangular beads on a linen surface - the necklace is ready! Very peculiar, so I'll have to think carefully before I decide to "walk"!

Vintage interior items are expensive, but they fit so well into the now popular shabby chic, Provence and country styles. If they have captivated your heart, and there is no money for antiques yet, it does not matter. It is quite realistic to artificially age wooden furniture with your own hands. Who knows, maybe you will enjoy the process so much that it will turn into a new hobby? And remember that all methods can be combined with each other.

Method number 1: brushing

It is mainly suitable for furniture made of soft and medium-hard woods (larch, ash, pine, walnut). Name from English word brush, that is, a brush, reflects the essence of the method. Using a wire brush (or special machine) soft fibers must be removed from the tree - annual rings will gradually appear on the surface. Then we direct the marafet: get rid of burrs, grind with a polymer abrasive brush, polish with a sesal or synthetic brush. At the end, we cover the wood with varnish, oil or wax according to standard technology.

The main feature of the method is that the surface is textured. Therefore, it is possible to achieve interesting shades when coating. Paint hollows in more dark color, and the grooves and pores - in light. The parquet and doors aged in this way look very cool. But remember that dirt is easily clogged into the grooves and pores, and it will be difficult to clean it out.

Advice: so that less dust flies when brushing, you can moisten the wood with water. But before the grinding stage, it must dry out.

Method number 2: patination

This is tracing paper already from Italian - patina. In a broad sense, patina is the noble traces of aging. The essence of the method: we select the paint to match the furniture, cover it in one layer and let it dry (sand the surface before painting). Then we make the shade lighter - repeat the procedure. Now we take a fine skin or a hard sponge and sculpt the scuffs. It is important that through upper layer looked through the base. It must be seen that the furniture was painted more than once. Adjust the degree of wear to your liking. At the end, cover the product with clear varnish or wax.

Patination is suitable not only for wooden surfaces, but also for metal and plaster, for example. Keep this in mind when choosing paint. They differ just in the type of material on which you will use them. The most popular are acrylic.

Passionate about the process? In addition to furniture, anything can be patinated - from sockets and baseboards to photo frames. And by the way, to start with, it’s better to practice on the latter, and not on the closet.

Advice: sand the first coat lightly to improve its adhesion to the new paint.

Method number 3: waxing

For this method, the most ordinary candle is suitable. Sand the surface, paint in two layers to even out the color (optional step). We rub with paraffin the supposed parts worn from time to time, cover with a layer of another paint, usually several tones lighter. Then we remove the layer of wax with a spatula, and grind the wood. Voila - your scuffs. It remains to apply a fixing varnish.

The result is incredibly realistic. It looks like the top layer of paint has come off.

Advice: Wipe the wood constantly with a cloth to make sure you don't sand too much.

Method number 4: applying stain

This dark brown liquid deftly adds wooden furniture decades. Cover the surface with stain water based. We wash it off with a clean soft sponge, but only from the middle of the product, leaving the edges, corners and depressions intact. When the tree has dried, we apply another layer of stain, but based on a different composition (naphtha, white spirit). Leave overnight until completely dry. We fill the pores, cracks and crevices with soil with a brush or the same sponge to fix the color and make it saturated. At the end, we rub antique wax along the fibers. An interesting nuance: the stain looks spectacular on the tree after brushing.
