Frames on the walls from the ceiling plinth. Ceiling plinth frame: decent design for little money. Deciding on a design choice

Today we will tell you how to make a frame from ceiling plinth with your own hands. It's very simple step by step master class, with which you can easily and quickly decorate your paintings and photographs in a beautiful baguette. The resulting frames will look like they were made real master- they will become a worthy frame for your favorite images.

To make a frame from a ceiling plinth, you will need the most simple materials and tools. It will take you about 10-15 minutes of free time to create one baguette. If you need several frames, it's better to do them all at once - this will save you time. When you fill your hand, you will do them like on a conveyor - in 3-5 minutes each.

What will we need?

  • styrofoam ceiling molding
  • acrylic enamel

In construction departments, you can find styrofoam skirting boards with various patterns. We advise you to choose several "beams" of a wide format, if you want to frame the paintings - this way you will get a chic imitation of a good baguette. If you will be making photo frames out of plinth, choose a standard format - one that is slightly narrower. Look for interesting drawings and pay attention to bizarre curls - they will greatly decorate your crafts.

How to make a frame?

Decide on the size of the frame and cut off the first piece of the plinth. It is very convenient to take an angular ruler. We need to make a 45 degree cut to glue the frame nicely. If you don't have an angled ruler, use a protractor or mark the line by eye.

Prepare 4 parts to create a picture frame. We advise you to make baguettes from the same "beam" in order to better glue the sections.

The parts must be smeared with glue over the side edge along the corner cut of the plinth and pressed tightly against each other. Before painting, the frames must be dried well so that the glue has time to grab and they become durable.

Let's start painting the baguette. Even if you want to leave it white, it's better to use enamel anyway. This will make the picture frame more durable, as well as protect it from moisture and excessive accumulation of dust.

The frames can be left as is - attach the photo directly to them with glue and hang on the wall. You can also place the image on the wall with adhesive tape, and then cover it with a baguette to make it look neat. If these options do not suit you, glue the baseboard frame to the cardboard, and then place a photo or picture inside. You can even insert glass, but in this case you need to use good superglue and a wide ceiling plinth.

As promised, by your numerous requests, today I am posting a master class on making frames. Faced once with this problem and ran around the shops in search of inexpensive and decent frames, I came to the conclusion that this is a waste of time. Buying is expensive, and ordering from frame shops is prohibitively expensive! Even the promised generous increase in pensions by 6 percent will not help here. Well, I thought, saving the drowning is the work of the drowning themselves.

Living in the summer in the country, I somehow noticed that I often began to go into the pantry, without knowing why. I’ll go in, turn around, take a look around and back. And so quite regularly. Attributing all this to the tricks of sclerosis that raised its head, I thought for hours - what did I want in the pantry? And so, once again going there, I saw an open box under the very ceiling. Curiosity (wow, how much I have!) got the better of me and I decided to get it. At the risk of twisting my osteochondrosis neck and breaking my heavily sagging legs, with a roar collapsing and dropping all the hanging-standing-lying junk (actually, junk is for the uninitiated, but for us - inexhaustible deposits of material for creativity), I pulled out this box to the light of God.
Ceiling tiles... so... So what? How is that? Well, tiles and tiles, we have a lot of them left after the repair. "What are you, old ?! - my subconscious squealed. - Pull yourself up, well! You need to be able to do this not only on the potty! Move your brains!" With difficulty, but the brains are starting to turn on. Slowly so, in sections ... Well, tiles, so what's next. Well, ... Matryoshka dolls! Here it is, here it is the solution to my problem! Now I don’t need any shop frames for nothing! (Well, for nothing, of course, we need ...)
Convulsively pressing the tile to my chest, with a squeal and screams, I jump out into the garden and start some kind of Brownian movement. By itself ... My husband leaned out of the garage, but realizing that another little idea had visited me, silently moving his lips, he leaned back. Having scared away the surrounding cats with my squeals and having gathered my and not quite my neighbors around the entire perimeter of the fence, I began to think feverishly. I thought and thought and thought. I solved for myself the problem with frames, and even more so non-standard ones, now I am my own director!
Much time has passed since then, but only today I am sharing with you what was born in my inflamed brain in such a distant hot summer. Please do not laugh, do not throw slippers, and I would not like to hear hooting.

To do this, we need the following materials and tools:

  • ceiling tiles made of pressed cardboard 60x60;
  • non-woven wallpaper for painting (remains after repair);
  • PVA glue;
  • square ruler;
  • hacksaw blade for metal;
  • stationery knife with replaceable blades;
  • pencil;
  • scissors;
  • paint roller;
  • a long ruler (I have a false ceiling guide for this purpose).

Laying out the ceiling tiles the right dimensions and drink. Dust from this work - mother, do not grieve! I just used a canvas, but it's a little inconvenient, and it threatens with sickly calluses. After making the frames, I found in hardware store a small saw for metal. She is in my group photo.

From one tile I got 6 of these plates. This is my blank for a photo 10x15. In the middle with a pencil mark out the windows for photos.

We need to cut out a window for the photo. Stepping back from the edges inside the window by 5.5 cm, we draw a frame 9x14 in size. This is necessary so that the photo does not fall out.
We cut out this window with a clerical knife using a long ruler, which will save us from unnecessary shortening of the fingers. Girls, follow the safety rules when working with a clerical knife! So, cut out. Lossless. Here's what we got.

If necessary, the edges of the frame can be sanded with sandpaper, but do not get carried away, remember that this is pressed paper!

Now we need to do such an operation - select a quarter. That is, around the entire perimeter, we need to cut a groove that will prevent our photo from falling out.
For this, I used a stack of scribble paper. Having pinched off 0.5 cm from the stack (exactly half the thickness of our frame), I rested against the corner of our frame and, firmly holding it with my hands, cut through the entire perimeter to a depth of 0.5 cm. Well, or a little more.

On the reverse side of the frame, stepping back 0.5 cm from the cut out window, having previously drawn it with a pencil, we make an incision to a depth of 0.5 cm along the entire perimeter. It is important not to cut through the frame through. Our sections located in perpendicular planes, must intersect. Carefully remove all unnecessary with a knife, clean the corners and get ...

Here's what we get. Here in this charcoal we will have a piece of glass, on it is a photo, and on it is a piece of cardboard. And everything should be civil and pleasing to the eye.
Once again I remind you that there is a lot of dust when working with such tiles! We sweep the resulting groove with any hard brush to remove any remaining dirt. It is very important to carefully process the corners, otherwise the glass will not lie flat.

And now we will process this groove with PVA glue. I have building PVA and quite thick, so I dilute it with water. Approximately 1:1, but I think I had a little less water. It is necessary to ensure that the glue is well absorbed into the groove, but does not sour it. Dry well. After drying, a rather hard groove is obtained.

The next step is to cut the wallpaper. We cut out the wallpaper 2 cm more than the frame itself. This is necessary in order to make it easier to cut off the excess.

On the front side We apply PVA glue to the frame with a roller (I did not dilute it). Glue down, put the frame on the back of the wallpaper and press it. Do not stretch the wallpaper and do not smooth it too much, otherwise, after drying, the wallpaper will shrink again and deform the frame.

Cut around the perimeter extra wallpaper, cut out the window. It is important that there are no unglued places around the perimeter. We coat the ends of the frame with glue.

We got just such a frame, ready for painting and decorating. Oh, pig! Girls, do not forget to change the blades on the clerical knife, otherwise the cut of the wallpaper will be uneven.

So, my dears, I showed you the first part of my MK in frames. In the next part, I will show how you can decorate these frames.

A self-made picture frame from a ceiling plinth can be with or without a pattern around the perimeter, classical form or even oval (when using a flexible ceiling plinth).

To make frames for a picture or photo, we need:
- ceiling plinth made of expanded polystyrene (foam plastic does not have sufficient mechanical strength, although it can be cut well with an ordinary knife);
- ruler;
- protractor;
- a sharp knife;
- a small spatula;
- universal polymer glue (you can use PVA, "Dragon", "Moment", etc.);
- brush;
- acrylic paint(you can not use paints that require the use of white spirit and similar solvents - they easily corrode products made of polyurethane and foam);
- acrylic putty;
- building glue "Liquid nails".

We determine the dimensions of the frame, measure the required length of the plinth with a ruler and cut it off at an angle of 45 °.

We take our photos (paintings, etc.) and try on a frame. We cut poorly joined parts, and then glue universal glue frame parts to each other. Let the frame dry.

After the frame has dried, you can start painting. Usually, small gaps remain at the junction of the ceiling plinth.

They must be repaired with acrylic putty (can be replaced silicone sealant), otherwise the frame will look unpresentable.

We remove excess putty with a damp sponge and wait for it to dry completely. Carefully remove dust from the product. Now we take paint of any color and apply it to the frame.

The frame is ready. It remains only to insert the photo into the frame, apply in the corners with reverse side frames "Liquid Nails", and then glue the work to the wall.

You can also use an empty frame as a decorative element, but empty frames will look good different size located on one wall, not a single frame.

You can make frames "for future use" for a future photo gallery, and fill in as new photos arrive.

Inserting a photo into an empty frame is quite easy, but some photos may slide down and curl at the top. You can deal with the problem with a paper tube.

Rolled up paper tube inserted into the frame at the top and bottom and captures the photo well.

Photos are best taken on matte paper so that they do not shine when viewed from the side.

This is how a do-it-yourself picture frame from a ceiling plinth allows you to easily, quickly and cheaply create a photo gallery at home (or an art gallery, whichever you prefer).

As many people already know, a decorative plinth has now become an integral part of any interior and is used, in most cases, to decorate the living space, hide minor errors during repairs, etc. But not everyone knows that home craftsmen make frames from ceiling plinths This not only saves cash but also to make your home more beautiful with your own hands.

In this article, we will tell you how to make a frame for a picture from a plinth, as well as introduce you to a variety of material choices. We will help you understand which ones are better and more attractive in appearance. But first things first.

Ceiling plinth - choice and varieties

So let's start with what modern designers use the ceiling plinth not only for its intended purpose, but also for other purposes. It turns out that the application this material depends entirely on the style and design of the room. Also, a lot depends on your taste, desire and of course the possibilities.

Choosing a plinth

Generally, in modern construction There are several types of plinth, which we will now consider:

  • Styrofoam. A frame for a picture from a ceiling plinth of this type is a budget option. This type of material is the cheapest (the price for 1 unit of goods starts from 10-12 rubles), has a light weight and processed without problems (it can be cut off with a regular knife). The main disadvantages of such a baguette include low mechanical strength and simply deplorable indicators of fire safety.

Note! Styrofoam is afraid of frequent touches - this can simply damage its structure (the drawing will be wrinkled). That is why it is mainly mounted on the ceiling.

Among other things, I would like to note that it can be easily painted in any color convenient for you. This type of material is recommended for beginners who do not yet have practical skills in processing ceiling plinths.

  • Styrofoam. This type of material is a more rigid analogue of the above. As for its fireproof qualities, there is no definite answer, but nevertheless, polystyrene foam does not ignite so quickly and is not subject to intense melting. Remarkably, expanded polystyrene is much stronger than the same foam, which allows it to bend at the angle you need. If we consider the pricing policy, then such products are somewhat more expensive, but, despite this, many people choose polystyrene foam for the manufacture of all kinds of crafts and frames.
  • Wood. As for wood products, this type of skirting board is elite due to its high cost and has an attractive appearance compared to other materials. As for the price, it entirely depends on the fact that most of the products are made from expensive wood species, such as ash, oak, mahogany, etc. Wood is the most difficult material to process, which, unlike expanded polystyrene and polystyrene, does not differ durability and fire safety. But in spite of all their negative qualities, frames for pictures and photos from a wooden baguette are distinguished by their unsurpassed and expensive appearance, which immediately crosses out all the above undesirable factors. For the most part, a wooden ceiling plinth is used to frame various compositions (not only ceiling, but also wall). In addition, wood is easy to paint.

Attention! All kinds of miniatures, reproductions and paintings look great when they are framed by a wooden molding.

We make a frame

So, we sort of figured out the types of skirting boards and now we can safely proceed to the question - how to make a frame for a picture from a skirting board. If you are an artist, cross-stitch, sculpt various miniatures from mosaics, or are fond of photography, then you will certainly need a lot of frames so that you and your guests can admire the result of your work.

But modern trend is such that not everyone can afford to spend a lot of money on a dozen different frames.

Designers took this problem seriously and came up with a cheaper and simpler tool - a do-it-yourself plinth frame.

I would like to pay tribute to the various design of the frames - you can not only paint them, but also glue all kinds of decorative elements to them, ranging from decorative flowers ending with buttons and other small details. But this question is more suitable for women - men mainly require the technical component of the work, and therefore we will immediately get down to business.

Getting Started

In order to get started, you will need to purchase the following tools and materials:

  • Ceiling plinth (as it became clear from the article, it is found in three types);
  • Any glue that will be able to tightly glue the material of your choice. For or Styrofoam glue is perfect for ceiling tiles, which is applied through a special gun;
  • Stationery or construction knife;
  • A small miter box;
  • Marker with a ruler;
  • Acrylic (or any other) paints.

Execution of work

To be honest, for sure, many home craftsmen will be somewhat skeptical of this kind of product. In general, polystyrene foam and polystyrene are not the materials that have high strength indicators. But if you think a little, then in general it turns out that the frame is not the structure into which nails are hammered, but the one that simply hangs on the wall.

It turns out that we do not need high strength products - here the main factors are durability, ease of processing and of course low weight. If we consider the design according to these parameters, then these materials are simply ideal.

Below is step-by-step instruction which is meant to help you:

  • To begin with, we take the plinth in our hands. In our case, we will consider a product made of expanded polystyrene, as it is the most in demand. Such material can be easily cut, glued, and also it does not have a fine-grained texture that crumbles like foam;
  • The next step is to take measurements from a photograph, painting or embroidery. In our case, it uses the usual A4 format, so the dimensions are 210x297 mm. Now we measure these dimensions on the plinth and make marks with a marker. Then, using a miter box, we cut the plinth at an angle of 45 °.

Attention! Pay special attention to the fact that the frame will be the same size as the sheet. This is necessary so that you can then glue the frame itself to your work of art.

  • Before gluing, you will need to check the compliance of all sides - for this, the parts must be laid out on the table and attached to each other (see photo);

  • We glue the product. For these purposes (as mentioned above) we use glue gun. He will glue the individual parts of our product tightly. To do this, you need to heat up the gun and apply a little adhesive to the end of the part, and quickly, until the glue has dried, attach another part to it;
  • Products are firmly pressed against each other for a few seconds. Further, according to the same scheme, our frame should be completed;
  • Now it only remains to paint this thing. For this we used acrylic enamel- Looks nice enough
  • After drying, we just have to glue the frame to the picture and that's it, the work has been successfully completed!

Attention! Glass is not inserted into the frames made of foam plastic and expanded polystyrene!

Conclusion

Well, our frame from the ceiling plinth is ready and will become quite a worthy decoration of the interior. What is most interesting, making several frames will take you only 1-2 hours, which will also certainly please restless craftsmen. We hope our work will not be in vain, and you will pay attention to them! Good luck in your endeavors!
