Fly tape. Do-it-yourself fly trap: is the result worth the effort? Sticky paper for flies

How to make an insect trap? This question is asked by all summer residents and residents of private houses. Wasps, flies, mosquitoes begin to besiege a person in hot weather. summer days especially in July and August. At this time, young offspring appear, which needs in large numbers food. Therefore, males and females scurry about in search of food. They fly for food, especially for sweets and meat. Mosquitoes annoy with painful bites.

Many people are allergic to wasp stings. Therefore, people have to apply many methods of insect control. The bites of these insects are very unpleasant, especially for children. Sometimes you have to call ambulance to avoid suffocation due to an allergic reaction. Getting rid of wasps is the easiest. You can try to find the nest and destroy it. But wasps fly around the site. Mosquitoes can crawl into every crack in the house, as can flies. Therefore, you need to know how to make a trap at home.

Effective trap for wasps and flies

There is a very effective device that has been tested by many site owners. To make it, you need a 1.5 or 2 liter plastic bottle. The cover should be removed from it. The bottle must be cut into two components. The top part should be half the size of the bottom. Inside you will need to place a liquid bait. So that it does not spill, you need to place the upper part in the lower neck inside. On this trap can be considered ready.

Any sweet liquid can be used as bait. But it is best to take fermented compote, as it has a sharper smell. This completes the instruction on how to make a trap. Insects will fly to the smell and get inside, but they won’t be able to get out. Trying to crawl out along the walls of the bottle, a wasp or a fly gets into a dead end, which is formed due to the upper neck. It is better to make several such baits. They should also be reinforced in case of strong winds.

What bait is better to take

Flies are different, so certain baits should be used for them. Houseflies and similar species are most fond of sweets. Large species are practically not interested in sugar, so it is better for them to put fresh meat or fish in the bait. fruit flies may be interested only in fruit, juice or compote. Wasps are most fond of sugary sweets, such as honey. From mosquitoes, unfortunately, such traps will not help.

Such devices are very effective. But there is a certain type - fruit flies, which rarely fly inside the jar. The way to make a trap for them will be discussed a little lower. The funnel trap is not suitable for home use. It's all about bad smell, which begins to come from the bait after a few days. But if you change it more often, then the trap is quite suitable for the premises.

Do-it-yourself sticky fly tape

The most common way to get rid of flies is with Velcro tape. These are sold in every hardware store. Flies willingly sit on the tape, as glue is applied to it, which contains bait. An insect cannot fly away from such a device. The tape works for a while, but then the glue dries up. The advantages of such a device are many. It is affordable, harmless to humans. The tape does not smell, does not emit toxic substances.

How to make this type of fly trap? Many people think that this is impossible. But in fact, you can make a tape quickly. To do this, you need to take linen or Castor oil, resin or rosin. As a bait, you need to take glycerin, honey or sugar. Melt all the ingredients in a water bath and apply them to paper tape. It will turn out an excellent analogue of a store device. Just such a tape is suitable for catching fruit flies, as they like to sit on the surface.

Now readers know how to make a trap for wasps and flies. Surely many are also interested in what goals the insect pursues. If bees live to make honey, then flies and wasps pursue completely different goals. They try to lay as many eggs as possible. One fly manages to reproduce up to 2000 larvae. And they live only a couple of months, and sometimes up to two weeks. For one laying, the fly lays about 120 eggs.

A cesspool, a compost heap, and even soil in a flower pot are most suitable for this. The fly will appear in a couple of weeks. And the warmer ambient temperature the faster the larva matures. Flies hibernate in winter. Active life begins only when the daily temperature in total is +20 degrees. There is one more interesting fact. Surely many are interested not only in how to make a trap at home, but also in why flies always sit on the windows. They just have compound eyes, because they simply do not notice transparent objects.

Why are flies dangerous?

Insects, in particular flies, are carriers of many diseases. Therefore, it is important to get rid of them in time. If wasps are dangerous due to bites, then flies can cause not only food poisoning, but also the most dangerous diseases. Here are some of them: typhus, fever, cholera, dysentery, brucellosis, etc.

An unusual but easy way to get rid of flies and wasps

Not everyone knows how to make a trap with their own hands using a fly agaric. Surely no one thought about the origin of the name of this fungus. It is necessary to collect fly agarics in August. A few hats will suffice. They should be crushed into disposable dishes and pour sweet water. A plate with mushrooms should be placed in the garden or in another place of mass accumulation of insects. Wasps and flies will immediately respond to the bait. You can not even crumble fly agarics, but simply sprinkle the hats with sugar. A syrup forms on the surface, to which insects will stick.

How to get rid of mosquitoes

To fight mosquitoes, you can make an ordinary trap-non-spill, but there is a more advanced tool. It is worth trying to make an electromechanical device. To create it, you will need a few improvised materials. The main component of the trap is a motor powered by electricity. Thanks to him, the trap has a suction effect. It draws mosquitoes inside a special container from which they cannot get out.

How to make a mosquito trap of this type? Everything is very simple. The power supply is based on direct current. A regular cooler can become a fan for the device, only, preferably, large sizes. For the basis of the case, you can take a plastic bucket from under the mayonnaise. In the bottom of the jar, you need to make a hole equal in diameter to the size of the cooler. Typically, the fan is sold complete with screws. They can screw the device to the bottom of the bucket. The cooler is attached outside, not inside.

bait for the trap

A suitable bait will be a light bulb with a bayonet base, as well as a cartridge for it. ambient air will heat up and at the same time illuminate the space. Everyone knows that light is the main bait for insects. LEDs can be used instead of light bulbs. Moreover, it is more economical to buy them in a tape, and not separately. In addition to light, you will need another bait. Mosquitoes will be interested in carbon dioxide, for which you will need to dilute the same amount of sugar and 5 g of yeast in 0.5 cups of water. The bait should be added to the container, which must be attached to the body of the trap.

These are the lungs, but effective methods to control flying insects. They are much safer than aerosols and other chemical substances. Therefore, it is better to spend some time on independent production traps than to waste cash to other pest control methods.

Struggling with annoying flies around the house with little tricks.

How to deal with annoying flies? What to adopt from folk remedies And what traps are easy to make yourself? Read about it in the article.

Flies in the house are a big problem. They fly, buzz, annoy, make you distract from everyday affairs, interfere with a peaceful rest. Many of them are carriers of dangerous diseases, so it is better to get rid of these uninvited "guests" as soon as possible.

Fly fighting

One of the main reasons for the appearance of flies in the house is unsanitary conditions. Crumbs on the floor, dirty dishes, a full trash can - all this attracts obsessive insects. Therefore, it is necessary to throw away waste on time, keep fresh food in the refrigerator, and take out the trash more often.

Good to spend every other day wet cleaning by adding table vinegar to a bucket of water (in the proportion of 1 tablespoon per liter of water). People will not feel the pungent smell of vinegar, and it will be unpleasant for flies, and they will not want to fly into the room.

It is also advisable to hang on the windows mosquito net. On the windowsills, you can put plants, the smell of which repels flies. For example, geranium.

If you live in a private house, it is good to plant elderberry, bird cherry bushes under the windows, Walnut or wormwood (popularly it is often called " god tree"). The smell of these plants is also very disliked by insects.

When such measures do not help, it is necessary to move to more action: use household chemicals or effective folk remedies.

Fly chemicals

Among the proposed industrial remedies for flies, the most popular are:

What are their advantages and disadvantages?

Aerosols kill flies instantly. But they must be sprayed manually, while the room must be well protected from drafts. It is impossible to stay in such a room for a long time after treatment: it is dangerous to health. Therefore, using aerosols is not very convenient.

Operating principle fumigator plates somewhat different: special device an element impregnated with a poisonous substance is inserted. The fumigator heats it up, the active substance evaporates and spreads around the room and kills the flies. For an adult, this method of insect control is safe, but it is better not to use this device in a children's room.

Sticky tapes insects attract insects with their smell, they sit on them and stick. The insect cannot fly away, therefore it dies. These traps can be hung from the ceiling or placed on a horizontal surface.

How to make sticky tape from flies with your own hands?

It is not difficult to make such a fly trap yourself.

For this need:

  • ordinary notebook sheet of paper;
  • rosin;
  • Castor oil;
  • honey or jam.

Mix rosin and castor oil in equal proportions and heat in a water bath. As soon as the substances are melted, you can add honey or jam. Their smell will attract insects.

Cut a paper sheet into strips 8 cm wide and soak them with this mass on both sides. Hang the trap where the flies are.

Folk remedies for flies

Chemicals are quite effective, but where children or pets live, they are not recommended for use. Therefore, it makes sense to use safe folk remedies.

The easiest method is to weld sugar syrup and add black pepper to it. Such a "trap" can be poured into a plate and kept on the table.

Flies are afraid of the smell of common flax, she Snapdragon(sold in a pharmacy). Prepare a decoction of herbs and milk (a tablespoon of the plant per liter of liquid), then pour it into bowls and place it in the corners of the room. The smell of the brew repels flies well.

If the plant could not be found, it can be replaced with tansy or castor bean flowers. At the same time, tansy does not even need to be cooked. Its flowers and leaves are enough just to grind, sprinkle them with a piece fresh meat and put it on any work surface.

This method also helps to get rid of moths, bedbugs and fleas.

Sticky tape is effective weapon against flies. Its smell attracts insects, and the glue does not allow them to free themselves. But there are many such traps. Over the summer on a standard two-room apartment can go up to 20 pieces, and in private country houses or countryside- and even more. As a result, protection from annoying "clatter" flies into a tangible penny. But there is a way out - do-it-yourself Velcro for flies.

A simple solution from this instruction will save up to 90% of the cost of a trap in a store. Required Components there is in every home, so 9 out of 10 who want to make a "fly trap" will not even spend money on it. Estimated implementation time is 10-20 minutes.

What you need to make Velcro tape for flies

The main thing is a sticky and viscous component that will not allow a trapped fly to break free. It can be made from rosin and castor oil. The latter is sold in pharmacies in 100 ml bottles. It may be called castor bean oil, or Oleum Ricini. If it was not possible to find "castor oil", you can use ordinary sunflower oil.

List of all required components:

  • Castor oil;
  • Rosin;
  • Thick paper or thin soft fabric;
  • Two round ice cream or sushi sticks fastened together.

If you are using non-castor oil, the Velcro will need to be changed a few days more often. Due to its physical and chemical properties, castor oil does not thicken over time and a film does not form on it.

Step-by-step instruction

Prepare rosin, a lighter (you can use a mini-burner or a hairdryer) and a metal container where the mixture will be heated and boiled. In order not to burn your hands, take the heating container with tongs, tweezers.

Take the container with tongs, place the rosin on it and start heating. Wait until the mixture boils and hold for 1-2 minutes to evaporate all the turpentine.

Add oil to the boiling rosin and heat the mixture further for another 30-60 seconds. Castor oil can be poured out with a syringe. Be careful not to get the oil in the fire, so as not to burn your hands or start a fire. Fat burns well.

Wait until it cools completely. After 10-20 minutes, the mixture will thicken. If the proportion is chosen correctly, the glue will be moderately thick. To check the condition, take a match and dip its tip into the impregnation. When you remove the match, the thread of glue should be pulled out more than 10 cm. The mixture should be plastic - the torn thread that sticks to the match should be pulled together into one drop.

Prepare paper, stapled sticks, a smear match, and the glue itself. If you have a standard sheet of paper, and not a finished tape, cut a strip of it 10 cm wide and 30-40 cm long.

Insert the tape between the sticks fastened at the base as shown in the image. Wrap the strip around the sticks twice and tighten a little so that it is firmly fixed.

Apply glue to the tape. Holding it by the sticks with one hand, spread the impregnation over the entire strip with a match. Try to keep the layer even, but don't overdo it. It is not necessary to cover all the paper with glue. On a 30 cm tape, 3-4 weighty drops (as in the photo) of glue are enough.

Now twist the strip tightly, wrapping it tightly around the sticks. Thanks to this action, the glue itself will spread over the entire surface of the paper and you do not have to lubricate the back of the tape - it will “smear” with impregnation during twisting. Excess rosin with oil will come out at the edges of the tape. Take them away.

To achieve maximum impregnation, the tape must be slightly heated. Don't overdo it and don't let the fire come into contact with the paper because the oil burns well. After warming up, the glue will be saturated and the paper will turn yellowish (initially, gray areas will be visible). Now fold and unfold the strip several times. To even out the layer - stretch the paper through the fastened sticks on which it was wound.

Do-it-yourself adhesive tape is ready. If you did everything right, the glue will stick to your finger and leave thin threads. Now you can hang the Velcro in a place with a maximum accumulation of fruit flies, securing it with a clothespin. Such a trap will work no worse than shop option. You can change it when there is no left on it free space or you will notice that new flies are able to get free.

How to choose a proportion

Since rosin and oil always have different properties, it is impossible to advise the ideal ratio. Approximate proportions - 2 parts of rosin and 1 part of oil. If, after cooling the boiled glue, it turned out to be too liquid, melt it and add a little rosin. If too thick, add oil.

Attach a weight to the end of the Velcro to keep it from curling up. It can be an ordinary clothespin, a few paper clips or something else. To make the flies pay more attention to your trap, add a few drops of honey or caramel to the finished glue. It makes sense to mix impregnation only with something that has a smell. There is no point in adding sugar. In order not to prepare the glue every time, you can make it for the future and put it in a warm place in a closed plastic jar. If you used castor oil, the mixture will not thicken or form a crust.

Help from the traps placed in the apartment will certainly be, if at the same time do not forget about additional measures:

  • all products must be removed;
  • cleaning must be done before setting the trap;
  • the source of the spread of midges or flies is found and destroyed (any rotting piece of fruit lying around behind the furniture or in the corner, etc.);
  • cupboards, drawers washed with soap;
  • bathrooms processed by special means, pipes are cleared of excess moisture, dirt and mucus;
  • plants are transplanted into new soil, watering is moderate (from moisture in flower pots midges also often start up);
  • pet feeders and cages are cleaned, food does not stagnate in them.

If all of the above is done, it makes sense to make traps for annoying insects and install them in the right places.

From midges

Homemade ones are a great way out when you can't use chemicals because of allergy-prone family members, small children, or animals. Yes, and the savings here will be significant: purchased traps cost differently, and almost nothing special is needed for home-cooked ones, everything is always at hand anyway.

Bait jars

Any glass jar is taken, 2 spoons are placed in it apple cider vinegar(its smell is very attractive to midges), you can add some sweet drink or syrup. The jar is closed with a plastic lid or film, in which the inlets for midges are pierced with an awl or a toothpick. Insects that have flown in on the aroma of the bait will not be able to get back out. As they accumulate in the trap, the jar is either thrown away or the midges are released on the street, and the container is sterilized.

The principle of making traps from plastic bottle the same as in the manufacture of a can trap: flying insects should not get out.

To do this, at the level of the “shoulders” of the bottle, from where its main thickness begins, top part cut evenly and inserted with a narrow neck down. The joints are glued with adhesive tape, at the bottom there should already be food bait. The ideal bait for midges is sweet liquids, wine or beer, which rot the fruit.

To facilitate the process of making a trap, you can not bother cutting off its upper part, but simply make a funnel out of paper and insert it into a narrow neck.

Container with wine

An ordinary bowl or container is taken, a little wine is poured to the bottom. The smell of this midge drink is very rich, and the midges will immediately smell it. In addition, wine is obtained by fermentation, and fermented products are one of the favorite delicacies of these small bored.

Drip a little dishwashing liquid into the wine or just liquid soap. In such a slippery mixture, the midges will not be able to stay on the surface, their wings will stick together, and the insects will begin to sink.

Plastic bag

Not the most common method, but with the speed of performing certain actions, it can work well.

Put a sweet food bait inside the bag (for example, fruits that are starting to spoil). Wait until midges accumulate there and tie the bag into a knot very quickly. After that, take it to the trash.

The main disadvantage of this method: midges are also quite nimble, and some of them may have time to fly out if the actions when tying the package are not very fast. Yes, and to wait until the insects accumulate there is not always the opportunity and desire.

From flies

Flies are more dangerous in terms of spreading infections than midges. They fly into the house from everywhere: from garbage dumps, outdoor toilets, from decaying organic matter on the street (and it could be the corpse of some small animal), etc. Therefore, it is simply necessary to fight them, and urgently.

Flies, like all insects, have an excellent sense of smell, and this is what will be emphasized in the manufacture of traps. To do this, you can make traps from the same glass jar or from a bottle, as is done from midges. The same principle will work here: once inside, insects will not fly out to freedom. But there are other methods as well.

sticky jar

You will need an ordinary empty can from under the stew. Outside, it needs to be wrapped several times in a row with tape or tape, removing them after each wrapping. As a result, the walls of the jar should become sticky.

Put either a bait inside the jar so that the flies flock to its smell, or a flashlight so that insects can fly into the light at night. Sitting on such a sticky surface, they should stick to it. If the flies manage to escape and retreat, it means that the walls are not sticky enough. Will have to wrap a few more times.

When a lot of flies stick to the jar, throw the trap into a landfill, but only with gloves on.

Adhesive tapes

To make such a trap with your own hands, you will need to cut several paper strips 2.5 X 15 cm. In each of them, pierce a hole for the rope from one end (about 2.5 cm from the edge). Thread the rope through the holes and tie into a knot. Soak the ribbons in water prepared in advance with sugar and a spoonful of honey (you can also without it) and let it dry, spreading it out on parchment.

After drying, hang sticky tapes on hooks and nails indoors. The effect will be greater if each Velcro is hung next to several others.

Only one, but very important condition: The syrup must be very sticky, otherwise the flies will not stick. With sufficient stickiness, homemade trap will help not only from flies, but also from mosquitoes and other midges.

Any such methods for catching midges and flies are extremely simple and cheap, effective, and most importantly, safe for everyone around. Which is what is required when pets and people who are prone to inadequate reactions to chemistry due to age or health problems live in the house.

Take an empty soda bottle. You can use an unwanted bottle or buy a new one on purpose. Make sure there is no liquid left in the bottle and rinse it with warm water.

Cut off the top of the bottle. For this you will need scissors. Pierce a hole in the bottle with the tip of scissors (closer to the middle).

  • After piercing the hole, insert scissors into it and cut the bottle across. Cut off the top completely so that you have two parts - the top with the lid and the long bottom.
  • Try to cut as evenly as possible, otherwise the neck will not hold when you turn it over.
  • You can remove the top and sharp knife but try not to cut yourself. If you are making a trap with children, it is best to use scissors.
  • Turn the bottle over. Insert inverted neck. If you cut it carefully, it will go all the way in.

    Connect the edges. The easiest way is to do this with a stapler 3-4 times along the entire diameter, leaving approximately the same distance between the staples.

    • If you are making the trap with children, staple the two pieces together yourself. If you don't have a stapler, there are two more ways to join the edges.
    • You can use tape or duct tape, but the material must be waterproof. Wrap the edges with tape 3-4 times.
    • You can also use super glue or regular glue, but it should also be water repellent. First, apply a little glue to the edges of the bottle, and then insert the inverted neck inside. Use your fingers to push it down and press the edges. Keep the edges connected until the glue dries.
  • Make a mixture of sugar and water. Pour five tablespoons of sugar into a saucepan. Put the saucepan on the stove. Spread the sugar evenly so that it completely covers the bottom.

    • Pour in enough water to cover the sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil.
    • Mix well. When the sugar dissolves in water, you will have a sweet liquid, but if the water boils, you will get syrup, that is, a more concentrated bait. Let the liquid cool slightly.
  • Spoon the liquid into the neck of the bottle. Try to coat the edges of the neck so that the flies stick to the sugar at the very entrance to the bottle.

    Use other baits. You can cut the apple and push the pieces into the neck. A piece of meat or a few tablespoons of aged wine is also suitable. You can simply mix water with sugar or honey.

    Add vinegar. If you decide to use liquid bait, add a few tablespoons of vinegar, preferably white. This will repel bees and other unwanted insects.

    Put the bottle in the sun. This will speed up the decomposition of the meat and make the bait more attractive to flies. This will also allow the liquid to evaporate, resulting in a substance that will attract insects. Praise yourself for a job well done.
