Decorative soft pillow-roller. Decorative soft pillow-roller How to make a triangular roller

Many of us suffer from various sleep disorders. One of the ways that helps to successfully resist this state of affairs is to make an orthopedic pillow-roller with your own hands.

By the way, very common this species pillows is in the culture of the Country rising sun. As many people probably know, the Japanese are very fond of sleeping on a hard surface, which is a special mattress, laying a very hard pillow under their heads, shaped like an elongated cylinder. Of course, not all of our compatriots are ready to make such radical changes and become like the descendants of samurai. But, at the same time, starting to sleep on a slightly firmer mattress and using a neck pillow is quite realistic, and, most importantly, good for your health.

Surely most of us have heard that sleeping on traditional and familiar pillows big size, and even soft ones - quite harmful, both for the neck and for the back. And if you don't feel any negative consequences, this does not mean at all that they will not appear over time. At the same time, pillows that have an elongated cylindrical configuration are quite suitable for every person and are very useful for sleeping.

Due to the fact that you put them under the neck, they allow the spine to remain in an extended position throughout the entire time of sleep. In other words, they have a considerable number of advantages, which, in turn, explain their growing popularity.

Varieties

Pillows in the form (roller), under the head can have a different configuration. Let's look at each option in some detail.

For bed

Roller pillows that are used for the bed can be both decorative and used for their intended purpose, that is, for sleeping. They are very versatile because you can wear them under almost any part of the body:

  • Under the arm.
  • Under the back.
  • For the neck.
  • Under the head.
  • Under your feet.

In addition, they have excellent appearance, thanks to which such pillows are able to fit into the interior of any bedroom, which may belong to a particular style.

Decorative pillows

Long pillow is a great option

They can be used not only in the bedroom, but also in the living room, nursery, and in any other room in which. A decorative pillow-roller can have different configurations: from a straight cylinder to the so-called “bone”, narrow in the middle and diverging at the edges.

By the way! Buckwheat husk pillows are considered optimal for orthopedic purposes. Buckwheat allows you to better keep the shape.

In addition, buckwheat is a 100% environmentally friendly raw material. By the way, since we are talking about Japan, it should be noted that it is there buckwheat pillows are mass phenomenon. It is not for nothing that many orthopedic buckwheat pillows, which are sold even in Russia and other CIS countries, are called "makura", which is translated from Japanese as "pillow". It is the countries of the East, by the way, that are the “homeland” of cushions, which from there migrated to us over time, becoming popular.

Their use includes not only laying under the head or back, but also as a footrest and even an armrest. In other words, the scope of their application is limited only by your imagination.

Main advantages

Well, now let's touch on the main advantages of roller pillows, because it's not just that they were so widespread, attracting the attention of many buyers and craftsmen who make them with their own hands at home. First of all, I would like to remind you that for real relaxation and good dream a person is capable only if his spine is provided with complete relaxation. To do this, several conditions must be observed at once, including the fact that the neck and head are on the shelf. Thus, it turns out to ensure an even position of the spine, since all kinds of bends are excluded: your spine simply does not bend or arch, but is in a more or less even position.

All this can be provided by high-quality pillows that have a special configuration. So, if you experience certain problems with sleep, and also feel tired in the neck, back or lower back, many experienced professionals give one piece of advice: reconsider your attitude to the conditions in which you sleep, on which mattresses and which pillows you use. .

By the way! Such products are very useful for cervical osteochondrosis, as well as for other similar health problems.

In this regard, the sofa cushion-roller is quite an "advanced", as they say, product. If you are suffering from pain in problem areas that are associated with the spine, you should pay attention to this product. The fact is that a cushion cushion for a sofa is able to provide your body with an optimal position during sleep, and this, as you know, is the key not only to relaxation, but also to the absence of problems in some places: back, neck and lower back.

Manufacturing master class

As we can see, the most common are 2 large groups of such pillows: classic, designed primarily for sleeping, as well as decorative - for a sofa, which can be either large enough or long, or small. If you are interested in how to sew a pillow-roller with your own hands, want to know how a pattern is made, and also find out many other interesting points for yourself, we recommend that you study a short master class that describes how to make this product yourself at home.

There are several options for how to make a pillow-roller with your own hands. All of them are slightly different from each other, however, on initial stage you will need to prepare approximately the same materials and tools. Here is their list:

What do you need What is used for
accessories Buttons or zipper to close the filling or for a cover
Sewing kit Needles, scissors, etc., with which you will sew
Textile Useful for filling and for a cover, as well as pillowcases (you can use a ready-made one)
Filler Buckwheat, foam rubber, holofiber and so on, depending on what degree of rigidity and durability you want to get in the end
Compass Needed when sewing a pillow in the form of a cylinder
Various decorative accessories In case you come in to further decorate the case

We will not describe separately the process of sewing pillows different shapes, (round, cylindrical, classic rectangular, square, and so on), since the process itself, in fact, is no different. The difference is only in the shape of the pattern.

Remember! Foam pillows are softer, but at the same time, much less “healthy” in terms of comfort and usefulness for the neck and lower back.

In fact, when it comes to a pillow with orthopedic properties, it is advisable to opt for more or less hard material for a filler that could be used to make a pillow with the so-called memory effect. This means that such a product will take the shape of your neck, head or lower back and stay in that position for a long time, as if remembering the outlines of your body. Foam rubber in this respect is not the best filler, although it is quite cheap.

So, in short, the sequence of actions when sewing a pillow with your own hands is as follows:

  • After preparing the materials and tools that were mentioned just above, you need to make a pattern for the embankment. Filling, if someone is not in the know, is the same fabric “bag”, which is then filled with artificial or natural filler.
  • Then you need to cut the blanks and sew them using sewing machine or an ordinary needle. The second, of course, is longer, but the seam is quite strong.
  • If the filler is bulk, then you can sew in a zipper, which, by the way, is a very convenient thing. If you explain using the example of buckwheat husk, then you can say that if a zipper is used in such a pillow, you can periodically (once a year or six months) unzip the zipper, pour out the filler, dry it, and then pour it again. With the complete “wear and tear” of such a filler (recall that it absorbs fat from the hair, sweat, and, according to some experts, and negative energy), you can just shake it out, put in a new one and use the updated pillow further.
  • Be that as it may, we will interfere with the filler inside the filling. We sew it tightly or use a zipper, as mentioned in the previous paragraph. As evidenced by numerous reviews, it is better, after all, to use a combination with lightning and bulk filler.
  • We make a cover. According to its technology, its production does not differ from the sewing of the embankment. To make it easier, you can use ready-made schemes making covers.
  • Actually, the pillow is ready. You just have to put on a pillowcase, if one is provided, or, if you wish, decorate the cover. To do this, you can make decorative crochet weaving, embroider, sew curly patches (patchwork technique) and so on.

Any trifle, even the most unpretentious, can give a highlight to the interior. beautiful napkin, homespun rug in the hallway, straw panels - products self made are very popular now. But some items need special tools and pre-prepared materials. But a sofa cushion can be made from what is at hand or in the nearest store. Now we will talk about how to sew a pillow-roller with our own hands - patterns are not needed for this.

What is it for?

It would seem, what questions can there be? A pillow is needed either for sleeping or for decoration. Or maybe you walk her into a crib. It is, but not really. Of course, decorative pillows and those on which they sleep are the most popular models. In fact, there are other products of this type, and almost everything you can do with your own hands:

  • ordinary - square or rectangular;
  • decorative - in the form of circles or flat figures;
  • decorative in the form of three-dimensional figures;
  • rollers.

Important! In fact, any pillow, even the most ordinary one, can become a room decoration. All you need is what to do with her beautiful pillowcase which can only be worn during the day. Purely decorative role three-dimensional figures play, like roses or tulips.

As for the rollers, they are universal. In addition to the fact that they can become a very worthy interior detail, you can lie on them, and also put them, if necessary, under different parts of the body - under the head, neck, back, arm, legs.

What are rollers?

Before sewing a pillow-roller, think about what kind of stuffed cylinder you want. It could be:

  • "candy":
  • pillow on screeds;
  • pillow with a zipper;
  • pillow with buttons or Velcro.

We select materials

To make it good cylindrical pillow do-it-yourself roller, you won’t need a pattern, but it’s best to pick up the materials right away.

You will need:

  • pillow fabric;
  • pillowcase fabric;
  • accessories - zipper, buttons, Velcro;
  • filler;
  • braid;
  • decorative elements.

Roller fabric

For a pillow, regardless of whether it will be with a pillowcase or not, it is better to take a natural fabric - cotton or linen. Much depends on what kind of filler you take. If you have sheet foam rubber, then it doesn’t matter if the weave is tight or rare. For fine-grained filler, a dense material is preferable.

Important! New cotton or linen fabric shrinks after washing, so it needs to be washed before cutting.

Fabric for decorative pillowcase

Since you are not going to sleep on it, the material can be anything from knitwear to velvet and brocade. The main thing is that the pillowcase is in harmony with the rest of the details - the bedspread, curtains, wallpaper.

Filler

If you need a do-it-yourself pillow-roller, the master class begins with the choice of filler. It is on what the bag will be filled that depends on the method of manufacture.

Suitable for you:

  • foam rubber;
  • holofiber;
  • buckwheat;
  • buckwheat husk.

The choice of filler depends on how rigid your product should be:

  • The foam pillow will be soft. The roller is sewn in just half an hour, but foam rubber has one very serious drawback - it disintegrates over time and releases unpleasant substances.
  • Working with holofiber is not much more difficult, but this material is absolutely neutral, does not react with environment does not cause allergies. In addition, mites and mold do not like it very much.
  • Buckwheat or buckwheat husk usually recommended to those who need orthopedic pillows. The roller is pretty hard. But he is able to take the optimal form for you. In addition, greek natural material which is not harmful to health. If we talk about the shortcomings, then it is only one - the shell must be dense.

Important! Do not fill the roller with fluff - this filler causes allergies for many, and besides, in feather pillows dust accumulates - that is why they are most often abandoned.

Cushion with ties

The easiest option. If you have never done needlework and for the first time thought about how to sew a cushion for a sofa, it is better to start with it.

The manufacturing method depends on the filler:

  • foam roller;
  • roller with any other filler.

With foam rubber

In this case, you do not need an inner bag. The roller consists of only two parts:

  • foam cylinder;
  • removable pillowcase.

The first step is to cut out a strip of foam rubber. The longer it is, the thicker the roller will be:

  1. Roll the strip into a tight cylinder.
  2. With a needle and a thick thread, sew the workpiece so that it does not unwind - you can do this with any seam that is familiar to you.
  3. Sew the outer edge of the strip to the previous layer with a few tight stitches.

Important! Foam rubber is easily torn, so the stitches should not be small and frequent.

Open pillowcases

The pillowcase pattern is a rectangle. But before you make a pillow-roller with your own hands, you need to measure and remember something. school course mathematics. To take measurements, you will need a centimeter tape or a thick, strong thread:

  1. Measure the thickness of the foam cylinder.
  2. Calculate the radius of the side part by dividing the resulting measurement by 6.28.
  3. Measure the length of the cylinder.
  4. To this measure, add twice the radius of the sidewall.
  5. Draw a rectangle, one side of which is equal to the length of the foam blank with a doubled radius added to it, and the second to the thickness of the cylinder, make allowances of 2 cm on the long sides, and 1 cm on the short ones.

Let's start sewing:

  1. On the short sides you need to make drawstrings. Wrap the allowances on the wrong side, first by 0.5 cm, and then by 1.5 cm, bast and stitch.
  2. From the wrong side on the allowance at a distance of 2.5 cm from the long side, make round hole, overcast its edges with a dense buttonhole seam.
  3. Make the same hole on the other side.
  4. Fold the workpiece in half, aligning the long sides.
  5. Trim the seam.
  6. Turn out the workpiece.
  7. Insert the laces into the drawstrings.
  8. Place the pillowcase over the foam cylinder.
  9. Tighten the laces - the ends can be tied together.

Other filler

To sew a pillow-roller with your own hands and stuff it with buckwheat, you need to make 2 covers: one is solid, the other is removable. The second cover is made in the same way as for the foam roller. The first, which is also called a fill or a fill, is also quite simple to sew. In this case, knowing how to calculate the radius from the circumference of a circle is also useful:

  1. Draw a circle on paper, the size of which is equal to the desired size of the sidewall.
  2. Calculate the width of the strip from which you will sew the cover - it is equal to twice the radius of the sidewall, multiplied by 6.28.
  3. Draw a strip of the same width, and its length is equal to the desired length of the pillow.
  4. Cut out the details - a strip and 2 identical circles, not forgetting the allowances.
  5. Overlock all cuts.

We collect the filling

You can do this in two ways:

  • on the front side;
  • on the wrong side.

Important! The first method is good for synthetic fabrics like microfiber, avizent or parachute silk. The second is for crumbling materials.

There are no fundamental differences, just in the first case you do not have to turn the workpiece inside out:

  1. Fold the strip in half wrong side out, matching the long sides.
  2. Baste and topstitch the seam.
  3. Baste and stitch a round piece to one short cut.
  4. On the second side, do the same, but do not sew the circle to the end.
  5. If necessary, cut the allowances so that the fabric does not bulge at the joints. If you didn't overcast them, you can cut close to the stitching and overcast together.
  6. Turn out the workpiece.
  7. Stuff it with filler.
  8. Close the hole carefully.

Roller with zipper

The manufacturing sequence is exactly the same as in the previous case. The difference lies in the style of the cover. You don't have to do anything manually:

  1. Open the cover in the same way as in the previous case, that is, cut out rectangles and 2 circles.
  2. Process the details with an overlock.
  3. On the long sides of the rectangle, iron the allowances to the wrong side.
  4. Sweep in the zipper - it should be the same length as the rectangle.
  5. Attach the zipper.
  6. Turn the workpiece to the wrong side.
  7. Baste and stitch both circles.
  8. Turn the cover inside out and insert the pillow.

How to sew a candy pillow?

This version of the pillow is not much different from the roller on the screeds. In the same way, the rectangle is sewn into a ring, a drawstring is made along the edges, into which the cord is inserted. But if you are thinking about how to sew a candy pillow with your own hands, you should make sure that you have lace or sewing at hand.

Important! Lace can be made from the remnants of tulle - then your creation will certainly be in harmony with the curtains. But this is only possible if the tulle is with a large pattern.

You can decorate the “candy” after the pillowcase is ready. First, sew the lace along the straight edge with a basting stitch, small stitches. Then - pull the thread and lay beautiful builds, and only then stitch or sew by hand to the pillow.

How to sew a pillow for a manicure?

Such a pillow is also a roller. The manufacturing technology is not much different from the previous ones, only the fabric and filler need to be selected more carefully.

Important! It is better to make such a roller with a cover that can be removed and washed if varnish suddenly gets on the pillow.

It is better to take a synthetic fabric for the cover, but one that cannot be damaged by solvent or varnish. Buckwheat or holofiber is suitable as a filler - foam rubber does not behave very well when in contact with acetone and other solvents.

As promised, I am returning to the “pillow” theme with master classes that I prepared for a special issue of the magazine “I cross-stitch. My house". There are a lot of ways to sew a pillow, I tried to highlight six of the simplest, in my opinion, solutions. You are already familiar with two of them (the stud pillow and the drawstring pillow), so I will only show four here. A lot of people have asked me about sewing in a zipper, so let's start with a zippered pillow.

Pillow with zipper

There are several options for sewing in a zipper, we will consider one of them. The zipper is sewn into the back of the pillow.

Cutting features:

For the backdrop, cut out two pieces, the width of which is equal to the part for the front side of the pillow, and the height in total is equal to the height of the part of the front side of the pillow, plus about 2 cm.

Fold the back pieces right sides together and chop. Put marks, noting the location of the lightning. Stitch the details as follows: stitch to the first mark with a regular stitch, perform a bartack, change the stitch length to the maximum (5mm) and sew to the second mark, change the stitch length to a regular stitch and, having completed the bartack, sew further with a regular stitch. The resulting stitch should look like this: regular stitch - backtack - basting stitch - backtack - regular stitch:

Iron the seam allowance. On the wrong side, put a zipper along the seam, pin and tack (on a typewriter or manually):

Take out the pins. Sew a zipper on the front side using a special foot for sewing machine designed for sewing in zippers:

Cut out the basting line. Fold the heel with the right side of the pillowcase, right sides together, chop around the perimeter and stitch from the wrong side. Cut the corners diagonally and overcast the allowances with a zig-zag seam.

Pillowcase with "pocket" - ideal for beginners

This is the simplest pillowcase, it is sewn very simply and quickly from a single piece of fabric with a minimum number of seams.

Cutting features:

Cut out a rectangle whose width is equal to the width of the pillow plus two centimeters for seam allowances (1 cm on each side), and the length is equal to twice the height of the pillow plus about 15 cm for the inner lapel (“pocket”) plus about 6 cm for the hem of two cuts (3 cm each) for each cut).

Hem both short cuts. To do this, tuck the fabric to the wrong side at a distance of 1 cm. Iron. Twist 2 cm again, iron and stitch:

Lay out the rectangle right side up. On the left side, wrap the fabric up to a distance equal to the height of the pillow. Then with right side wrap up the remaining fabric, equal to the size of the "pocket". Chop the parts with pins along the side cuts:

Sew the pillowcase on both sides. Cut the corners diagonally and overcast the allowances with a zig-zag seam:

round pillow- ideal for beginners

A very simple pillow with a drawstring, sewn according to the yo-yo principle.

Cutting features:

Cut out a circle with a diameter about twice as large as future pillow and along an oblique (i.e. at an angle of 45 degrees to the shared thread) a strip of fabric 5-7 cm wide, equal in length to the circumference of the round part.

Grind the strip into a ring and pin along the entire circumference with the right side to the front side. Sew in a circle, trim the seam allowance with zigzag scissors:

Turn the unprocessed edge of the strip to the wrong side at a distance of about 1 cm and iron. Fold the strip in half and stitch on the wrong side of the circle, leaving a small hole for threading the cord:

Insert a string or ribbon into the drawstring, tighten and tie in a bow.

Pillow - cushion

A pillow - a roller can be made very simply by sewing a long "pipe" and tying both ends with ribbons like a candy. More difficult option- a roller with a zipper and round bases, the sewing of which requires some skill.

Cutting features:

Sew a zipper into the main piece as shown above for the zipper cushion. On both sides, pin the base (round parts) to the resulting cylinder, folding the parts with their front sides and watching for an even distribution of the fabric:

Run in a circle. Trim the seam allowances with zigzag scissors close to the seam so that later the seams lie well and do not bulge:

Perhaps we all need to learn from the Japanese how to get great sleep. They doze on their backs, on a hard specialized mattress, and put a log in a pillowcase under their heads. According to their point of view, only such a position of the body during sleep gives relaxation and good rest throughout the body. Our mentality is completely different from the Eastern vision of the world, but no one bothers to adopt a little bit of their recreational options: you can doze off on a larger hard bed, and instead of a beam, a pillow-roller can be used entirely.

It has long been proven that napping on very large and large pillows is harmful. And the rollers, on the contrary, are one hundred percent suitable for this purpose. They are low, fairly rigid and are placed under the neck, therefore, allowing the spine to stay in a level position.

What can be pillows-rollers

Before we start listing all the advantages of such pillows, let's see what types of rollers are available:

pillow-roller for a bed, which is determined both for sleeping and for decorative decoration;

sofa decorative cushions under the back;

decorative rollers can be used for the armrest and also for the footrest.

In size, the decorative pillow-roller can be straight, exactly repeating the shape of a cylinder, or it can be with a gathered edge; in this assembly option, either a beautiful button, or a “tail” made of fabric, or a decorative brush, as in the version with a roller, is crowned style - East. by the way, pillows-rollers came to us from the East itself, from this made of "oriental" fabrics, for example, from multi-color taffeta and embellished with tassels, such pillows look just fine and are considered an invariable accessory of oriental interiors.

Now, by the way, let's move on to describing the advantages of pillows-rollers. Why are they so pleasant that they are not inferior at all classic pillows rectangle shapes, and sometimes even exceed them?

Benefits of pillows

First, let us recall the structure of the human body and the fact that a person receives a simple rest only when his spine is relaxed. What is required for this? Absolutely not enough: so that at the time of sleep both the neck and the head lie on the pillow.

Only when the back is fixed at one point and deflections are removed does the spine allow itself to rest. Therefore, the back, neck relaxes, leaves nervous tension It also relieves pain in the spine and back. Those who suffer from back pain need to fully reconsider their attitude to sleep, take a look at what pillows you sleep on, are they comfortable, are they tall or, on the contrary, are they low?

Pillow-roller for sleep owns side by side therapeutic actions. Much depends on the correct position of the body during sleep. For example, as we said above, headaches and pain in the spine go away, blood circulation and heart function improve, pressure improves, eyes relax and intraocular pressure decreases.

Also, a pillow-roller has been demonstrated for sleeping for those who sleep restlessly at night and suffer from chronic fatigue.

by the way, such pillows are classified as orthopedic, in particular if they are stuffed not with feathers and traditional down, but, for example, hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly buckwheat husk, which, moreover, has a massage effect. And in addition orthopedic cushions for rest and sleep, they are filled with healing herbs in order to replenish the therapeutic result with aromatherapy. Of the most common aromatic fillers, juniper, lavender, and cedar should be noted. such rollers not only promote sound sleep, but also relieve stress, relax the nervous structure, and relieve insomnia.

Features of the production of do-it-yourself decorative pillows-rollers

For needlewomen, it will be interesting that the pillow-roller is quite easy to make at home. Moreover, it is very easy to sew to such a degree that even a novice seamstress can join the manufacture of the roller. The roller style looks beautiful - patchwork, when a decorative pillowcase is made from multi-colored patches of fabric. Also on the pillow-roller there will be suitable lace and hand embroidery. On decorative pillowcases, they mainly make a fastener from an unfastening zipper - this is done for the comfort of using the roller, so that if required, the pillowcase can be removed and washed very easily. And you can fill such a pillow with feathers and traditional down, or synthetic materials, for example, foam rubber or holofiber.

Decorative pillow roller do-it-yourself

As you can see, the cylindrical shape of the pillow has a very beneficial effect on general state organism. So, if for example you are unwell, then buy at least one roller and try it in action. Who knows, perhaps the actual pillow-roller will give you the opportunity to completely rest and enjoy life without pain in the cervical and back. Well, decorative varieties of such pillows will become good decision to decorate your home.

It turns out that there are several ways to sew a pillow-roller with your own hands. Here they are in no particular order.

  • The fabric from which you will make the cover.
  • Pillow that looks like a roller.
  • Decorative cord for edging.
  • Zip, buttons, and loops or snaps that you sew onto the cover so it can be removed and washed.
  • Sewing accessories.
  • Compass.

What you need to do before sewing a pillow-roller with your own hands

Measure the place where the roller will lie. This is necessary in order to calculate the dimensions of the product - after all, it should not hang from the sofa or be too small.

The pillow, which will be closed with a cover, should be slightly more sizes locations finished product. The material from which the cover will be sewn, on the contrary, must be exactly the right size. If you comply with these conditions, then the pillow-roller will turn out right size, shape and at the same time will be elastic.

Do-it-yourself pillow-roller - option number 1

  1. Transfer the measurements to the wrong side of the material from which you will sew the cover. In this case, it is necessary to add 2 cm on all sides for allowances.
    Keep in mind - the top and bottom sides of the fabric should be equal to the diameter of the end of the pillow, and the sides - the length of the pillow.
  2. Make a cutout.
  3. Fold the fabric in half, bringing the sides together. In this case, the front part should be inside. After step back from the raw edges 2 cm, and from the ends - 15 cm.
  4. Sew along the side that is longest.
  5. Sew on a zipper (loop button or buttons).
  6. Draw two circles on another piece of fabric, the diameter of which is 2 cm larger than the diameter of the ends of the pillow. The extra centimeters are an allowance. Then cut them out.
  7. Cut the allowances of the ends of the cover so that when stitching the end does not turn out to be wrinkled.
  8. Sew a edging cord to them around the circumference, as shown in the photo above.
  9. Cut the end edges of the cover. There should be a distance of 1.5 cm between the cuts. The depth of the cut should also be 1.5 cm.
  10. Chip off the face of the ends with a border and sew.
  11. Check the appearance of the seams by turning the cover inside out. If everything is in order, put on a pillow.

Do-it-yourself pillow-roller - option number 2

  1. Cut out a fabric whose side edges are 3 cm longer than the pillow, and the top and bottom sides are 3 cm longer than the circumference of the end of the pillow.
  2. Peel and stitch the cut fabric along the long side. This must be done from the wrong side.
  3. Tuck the sides of the end so that the bend is 1.5 cm, and sew.
  4. Sew tails for the cover. The dimensions are determined depending on the place where the pillow-roller will be located.
  5. Put the cover on the roller and tie the ends.

Do-it-yourself pillow-roller - option number 3

  1. Mark out, cut out and sew the cover in the same way as in the first version.
  2. Make edging at both ends. At the same time, cut the cord so that there is one joint at the ends.
  3. Cut out two strips of fabric, the length of which is equal to the circumference of the end of the pillow, and the width is equal to the radius of the circle. On the sides of the cut, add 1.5 cm for the allowance.
  4. Cut off and sew the short ends of the workpiece.
  5. Attach any of the long sides to the end in the length of the edging.
  6. the rest long side bend and hem.
  7. After step 6, a backstage is formed. Thread a string or ribbon through it.
  8. You do the same with the second end of the cover, which will be the end of the roller.
  9. Put the cover on the pillow, tie the cord and stitch this case to make it stronger.
  10. Cut off excess cords.
  11. If desired, close the hole at the ends with a button, which you first sheathe with material, a rosette or a brush.

Much that reminds us of blissful idleness, bliss and rest has come to us from the blessed East. These include fluffy carpets, soft poufs, sofa cushions(and the sofas themselves, too). Why don't we turn to the experience of generations that know a lot about comfort? Even with the current pace of life, it will not be difficult. For example, in order to sew such a product as a do-it-yourself pillow-roller in accordance with all the rules, you need literally two hours of time.

When there was no upholstered furniture, rollers played the role of armrests on wooden couches and sofas. Then they were stuffed with straw, dry fern or horsehair. Down and feathers were considered unsuitable filler - it was impossible to gracefully lean on such an armrest during a conversation. The elbow treacherously failed, violating the harmony of a well-thought-out pose. Now we do not wear bustles and tailcoats, but sofa cushions have not lost their relevance.

The pillow is a neat cylinder sewn from a single piece of fabric or from matching stripes. You can fill it with any chosen filler. The ends of the roller are usually made with fiction, using bows, pleating, decorative buttons, gathers, folds, edging. Product size may vary. It depends on your preferences and the dimensions of the sofa. Today we will look at how to sew a pillow-roller in three different ways.

List of tools and materials for work

  • Dense fabric such as tapestry, microvelveteen, calico, boston.
  • Ready-made pillow in the form of a roller, feather, down or with synthetic filling.
  • Edging decorative cord.
  • As decoration - rosettes, tassels, large buttons trimmed with fabric.
  • Zipper or buttons.
  • Scissors, centimeter, crayon, ruler.
  • Eyelet pins, needles, thread.
  • Sewing machine.

First you need to measure the future location of the product so that the roller does not hang from the sofa, or vice versa, does not get lost on the vast bed. The finished cylindrical pillow (purchased or sewn by hand) should exceed the required volume of the roller by about 10%. The cover, on the contrary, is carried out exactly according to the calculated dimensions. Then the roller will have a clear shape and the necessary elasticity.

The first option for sewing a pillow-roller

To understand how to sew a pillow-roller with your own hands, we will listen to the advice of the masters. So, we transfer the dimensions to the wrong side of the fabric, adding 2 cm on all sides for allowances. We cut out the desired fragment. The upper and lower sides of the cut should be equal to the circumference of the end, the side edges - the length of the roller itself.

We chop the fabric face inward on the sides. We retreat from the raw edges of 2 cm, and from the ends - 15 cm. We sew along the long side. We sew in a zipper, buttons or buttons with loops for fastening the cover.

We mark on the remaining fabric two circles for the ends of the roller. Add to the circles 2 cm at the seams and cut out. We cut the allowances of the circles so as not to wrinkle. We sew an edging cord to them around the perimeter.

Now we cut the end edges of the cover. The step of the incisions is one and a half centimeters, the depth is also one and a half. Breaking off front sides ends with edging and sew.

We check the quality of the seams by turning the pillowcase right side out. If there are any irregularities and flaws, we sew the seams from the inside out again, achieving an impeccable appearance of the ends. After that, the cover can be put on the pillow-roller.

Second option

Knowing the length of the future fabric cylinder and the radius of the ends, we determine the dimensions of the so-called tails, which we will later tie at the ends of the roller. As in the first case, we cut out a strip of fabric, along the side edges equal to the length pillows, and on the upper and lower sides - the circumference of the butt. From each edge, first add 3 cm to the seams.

We chip and stitch the workpiece along the long side from the inside. We turn the end sides twice by 1.5 cm, sew. We sew tails. We insert the roller into the case and tie the ends.

Third option

We mark, cut out and sew the cover, as in the first case. From both ends we make a fringing, cutting the cord so that there is one joint at each end.

Cut out two strips of fabric. The length of additional blanks should be equal to the circumference of the end of the roller, the width - to the radius of the end. On each side of the cut, leave one and a half centimeters for the seams.

We chop off and sew the short ends of the workpiece. We attach one long side of the part to the end along the edging. Bend and hem the free edge of the element. We pass a ribbon or cord into the formed drawstring. We repeat all the completed operations on the other end of the roller.

We put a pillow in the cover. We tightly tighten the cords, tie and sew for strength. Cut off the ends of the cords. The tightened hole in the middle of the butt is closed by a large one, upholstered in fabric button, rosette or tassel.

The pillow-roller is suitable for any environment, you just need to take into account the texture and shade when choosing a fabric. This indispensable attribute comfort and coziness is able to transform a room, bring a special flavor to general style interior.
