Can a pine tree take root in water. Can a spruce branch give roots. How to grow a pine tree from a branch? Our story of planting on the site of a live adult spruce. Buy a coniferous tree in a container

Remember, in a distant happy childhood, when parents brought Christmas tree, the house was immediately filled with the fresh smell of pine needles and resin. There was a feeling fabulous holiday, waiting for something wonderful, mysterious, which can only happen in New Year... Childhood is long gone, but the desire to feel again and again in a New Year's fairy tale remains. For me, three things are indispensable New Year's attributes: garlands, and, of course, a Christmas tree!

However, the older I get, the more careful I am with nature. Therefore, a note of sadness was added to the festive mood: it’s a pity for the little fluffy Christmas trees and pines that died so that we could decorate our houses with them for a week or two. I understand that if there is no demand, the supply will also disappear, who will offer a product that no one buys? In the meantime, the Christmas tree markets are full of those eager to buy a New Year's tree, but I don't buy cut down Christmas trees.! Now I will tell you what was the last straw for making such a decision.

We have Christmas trees they sell not only in the market, but also at supermarkets, at gas stations - in general, wherever there is a constant crowd of people. It so happened that on the first day of the new year, I drove past a large store. In the evening, the Christmas tree market was noisy and seething there, buyers tried to bring down the price - after all, there were only a few hours left before the holiday - and sellers tried to raise it, realizing that more Christmas tree there is nowhere to buy in the village.

In the early morning, when people went to rest after a festive feast, pine trees and pine trees that no one bought, stood alone, leaning against the walls of the store. Some fell, stray dogs lay down on them, trying to escape from the cold ... A little later, public utilities workers simply loaded them into garbage trucks and sent them to a landfill. And why were they cut down? In general, the experienced feeling of pity for the needlessly destroyed plants put an end to the acquisition of felled conifers in the future.

So what to do, because without a Christmas tree, a holiday is not a holiday? Personally, I don’t like synthetic analogues of firs - apart from longing, they don’t evoke any feelings in me. Yes, at artificial Christmas trees there are benefits. But you can find an alternative when the real one living tree she will be in the house, and after the holiday she will remain alive and well!

Method 1 - rent a Christmas tree

Now there are more and more such offers, there are plenty to choose from! What is the advantage: You can order and choose a Christmas tree in advance and it will be delivered to you on the specified day. does not crumble, you do not have to constantly remove falling needles. Most importantly, the tree will survive!

Some hypermarkets offer spruces for rent with subsequent disposal - provided that they are returned before January 24th. I'll tell you a secret: Christmas trees that immediately return from the holidays are not destroyed! Within 2 weeks they are trying to resuscitate. Those who suffered from high temperature air or untimely watering, not so much - about 47%! The remaining 53% are sent back to the greenhouses!

Therefore, we kindly ask everyone who will rent a Christmas tree (pine, fir, larch) - do not put them in a room with an air temperature above + 20 ° C, and if possible, even lower! There is no place for New Year trees near fireplaces, radiators, under direct sunlight! high humidity air in the room where the Christmas tree flaunts can be maintained by regular ventilation.

Method number 2 - buy a coniferous tree in a container

Of course, with the subsequent landing in open ground. In this case, you will have to prepare the landing site in advance and make sure that the Christmas tree in the container lives safely until spring in the room. You can read the article General recommendations by choosing a seedling and planting conifers, in order to know in advance what to prepare for.

Conditions of detention the trees at home are simple: timely watering with settled water, spraying (conifers really like crown irrigation!), And a cool room: preferably + 12 ... + 18 ° С.

How to prepare a landing site: dig a hole, pour coniferous earth mixed with sand in equal proportions there, sprinkle a little ordinary soil on top. In the spring, when the landing time comes, the landing hole will need to be deepened a little, drainage should be laid on the bottom with a layer of 2-4 cm. Water the Christmas tree well so that it can be easily removed earthen clod out of the container, and carefully transfer into the prepared hole. Can be processed root system growth stimulants and anti-stress drugs.

We fall asleep with soil mixture: the soil selected when deepening the hole, coniferous land(in ready-made, from the store), sand and ordinary soil - all in equal parts. Water, add soil if necessary. Then trunk circle mulch with needles, finely chopped tree branches conifers, pieces of cones. The most important thing is to reliably hide the newcomer from a direct hit on the crown of spring sun rays, otherwise the burn cannot be avoided!

Before you get down to business, be sure to read the publication 4 mistakes when landing coniferous plants, especially if there is no own experience in this matter yet.

Method number 3 - root a cut spruce

Well, in this case, I am ready to argue with those who claim that it is easy and simple. I didn’t succeed even once, although I tried repeatedly: I used rooting stimulants, spraying, comfortable temperature regime… The Christmas tree stood in a bucket of sand that never dried up. Useless.

Several times the trees created the illusion of rooting: their buds blossomed, from which young, light green, soft needles appeared. Believe me, once I kept a Christmas tree in the house until mid-May - it did not dry out and did not show obvious signs of growth. In the end, I decided to drop her on the street. I took it out of a bucket of sand, but there are no roots at all. I came to the conclusion that amateurs, with the arsenal available to us chemicals, it is difficult to bring a cut down Christmas tree back to life, or maybe even impossible.

And you know, it was funny to see the expression on the face of the controller, who in mid-April came to take the readings of the gas meter, and saw a Christmas tree in my hallway in a bucket of sand) He didn’t ask anything, but he really wanted to, it was clearly visible)))

Method number 4 - rooting cuttings

Let's say you bought a felled conifer tree, but you want to give a chance for life to his cuttings. This is how it works in practice positive results, although not very high: out of 40 cuttings of common spruce, only 6 pieces took root. Not rich, but better than nothing!

I just want to warn you different kinds conifers lend themselves to cuttings with varying degrees success! For example, it is almost impossible for an amateur to propagate larch, pine and fir by cuttings! With spruces, we (lovers) are more likely to succeed, and cypresses and arborvitae are the easiest to root. I advise you to take lateral (growing horizontally), annual cuttings, 5-15 cm long.

To remove the resin from the cuts, immerse the cuttings for 2-3 hours in warm water. Then powder the cut sites with root, heteroauxin - to stimulate root formation. Plant cuttings in containers filled with soil mixture: soil, coniferous soil, river sand - all in equal proportions. Cover each cutting with glass or plastic jar, to determine them in a room with diffused light and an air temperature of at least + 20 ° C.

Even if one out of 50 cuttings survives, this is already a victory! Which I sincerely wish you!

The main equipment for these procedures will be a pruner, preferably well-ground, and a container for planting small twigs.

A sharp pruner will help you quickly cut the selected branch without staining you with the resin that stands out. Scotch pine, like many representatives gymnosperms, inside it is filled not with juice, but with resin, which is quickly released when the integrity of its branches is violated. The resin is quite sticky, publishes pleasant aroma and is poorly laundered from hands and clothes. Therefore, it is worth cutting the branch as soon as possible and moving away from the tree.

Preparation Tips:

  • An ordinary frame can act as a container for small sizes made from. This frame places previously not a large number of compost. The speed of pine branches will also depend on the composition of the compost. The more fertile it is, the faster the process of root formation will begin.
  • In fertile compost, young roots will be able to gain strength and gain a foothold faster. Best Option compost in this case may be a mixture consisting of coarse-grained river sand and peat, homogeneous in consistency. Such a mixture is prepared by mixing these components in a ratio of one to one.
  • In order to prevent rooted pine branches, a little half-rotted pine bark is often added to the prepared compost. If you do not have it at hand, you can use coarse-grained peat as a substitute.
  • In addition, these components will perform the function of good drainage for growing branches. Sometimes a small amount of perlite is added to the compost to help improve the aeration process of the resulting mixture.
  • The access of oxygen to the roots of a pine branch is also very necessary and important, and it can be achieved using the above action. It is advisable to moisten it before planting branches in the resulting compost. This will also help the twigs to take root faster and gain strength.
  • Good watering can be done simultaneously with the disinfection of the mixture. As you know, peat contains a large number of microorganisms in its composition, and many of them can adversely affect the growth and development of a young pine branch. In this case, a young branch can get sick and even die. To prevent this from happening, the resulting mixture should be disinfected with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, or as it is popularly called, potassium permanganate.

The process of preparing such a solution is very simple: in a small amount of boiled water room temperature a few crystals of potassium permanganate are added (usually at the tip of a knife) to make a slightly pink solution. They then need to shed the soil before planting pine branches in it. Potassium permanganate crystals have a detrimental effect on most pathogenic microorganisms that are part of peat.

Having chosen the common pine tree you like, with the help of a sharp pruner (in the absence of it, it will also sharp knife), cut a branch of small length. Then you need to remove the existing branches to its lower part in order to free this zone in order to get roots on it. The size of the cut branch should not exceed ten centimeters. This is the most optimal length for this case. You can use pine branches and smaller sizes, they are also capable of rooting. If there are other extraneous branches on the selected branch, they should also be removed.

To get roots on a branch, a stimulant substance is needed for the formation of roots. It can be a common growth substance or root stimulator.

You can buy such a substance in specialized flower shops. It releases as a liquid or solution. Before purchasing, read the description and category of plants that it works well on.

Then the cut branch must be lowered into the prepared solution of the root former. Prepare the solution according to the instructions provided. The concentration of the root stimulator solution is directly proportional to the degree of lignification of the pine branch you have chosen. The stronger the lignification of its lower part, the more concentrated the prepared solution should be. If you decide to root a pine branch in summer period, then you may not need a corneal stimulator.

Planting a pine branch:

  • They should be planted in a prepared frame with special compost, which was mentioned earlier. If you do not have such a frame, then you can plant these branches in a regular greenhouse. Both the frame and the greenhouse should be covered with foil.
  • When planting, it is not advisable to stick branches into the soil, this can negatively affect future root formation. It is best to make a small hole in the compost with a hard object and place a pine branch into it. After that, the soil around the branch should be gently pressed and compacted.
  • For the development of various pine twigs on the surface, spraying is recommended special solution fungicide. After that, the planted pine branches are covered to speed up the process of root formation.
  • It is best for sprouting twigs to create penumbra conditions, closing them from direct exposure to destructive sunlight. A frame with twigs can be placed in partial shade conditions.
  • When rooting pine branches in winter time, it is desirable to warm up the frame with the planted branches. This will help speed up the root formation process. It is important to ensure that pine branches receive a sufficient amount of moisture, otherwise they will not only not be able to form new roots, but also die themselves.
  • Moderate should be produced as needed. If there is more moisture than necessary, then the plants may die from waterlogging and decay.
  • After a while, you should begin to open a greenhouse or a frame to ventilate pine branches. Access fresh air and sunlight positively affects the growth of plant roots.

If you were cutting pine branches for rooting at the beginning of summer, then by August they should have roots. It is by their presence that they judge the need for planting pine nets in open ground.

The stronger and stronger the root system of pine twigs, the greater the chance of their speedy fixing in the soil and active growth.

In the case of obtaining rooted twigs, and you can check this by carefully excavating the top layer of soil around them, you can start planting. It is desirable to plant rooted pine branches in a semi-shady area when there is no bright sun outside.

After this, the plants should be well and. Subject to all standards of care, after a few years, this place will grow beautiful pine. In this way, you can grow a beautiful pine tree from its small twig with diligence and care.

Buying a Christmas tree in a tub is environmentally friendly and responsible. On any New Year's Eve mall they are. the main problem because it's not a Christmas tree. Most often these are Danish firs or Serbian firs omorika. Both of them do not tolerate frost well (even in harsh Denmark, the Gulf Stream breathes from the side, and crocuses bloom there in winter). Therefore, if you transplant such a tree into a garden or into a forest, it will not survive our winter, said dendrologist Arnold Ivashchenko, head of the Severo-Zapad Agro nursery, sadly.

If you find an ordinary spruce (tell the seller " Picea abies” and wink), check if it falls out of the tub. It falls out - it means that the roots were chopped off and stuck into the ground shortly before the sale. If the spruce is very thick, this is also not good: it was overfed with stimulants and all the resources went into appearance.

Having obtained a moderately dense spruce in a tub, keep it on the balcony. Put it in the room and decorate right before the New Year, and hang street garlands, because the tree must be sprayed with water. If the buds swell, send them to the cold: if you can, you can only shoot in the spring.

In any case, the tree must be returned to the balcony a week after the holiday, it cannot stay warm longer. Mark the south side of the crown with a piece of tape and do not move the tree again.

When you take it out in the fall to plant it in nature, pour 10 cm into the bottom of the pit expanded clay gravel for drainage, it is in OBI and Auchan. Well fields spruce and passed from the tub into the pit, along with a clod of earth. In a new place she must stand south side again to the south: from a change in orientation, the trees die.

If you leave a tree to grow in a tub, then do not dress up for the next New Year, Arnold Ivashchenko insists. The spruce will not endure the second visit to the apartment.

Chapter 2. Final. It tells about how to subject a cut spruce (and yourself at the same time) to severe tests, which, however, will give it a chance to start a new life.

As you already understood, growing a Christmas tree at home until autumn is like keeping a model from Saint-Tropez in the Mytishchi Khrushchev. And sprouting a cut down Christmas tree is the same as cutting off Instagram for a model. That is, the chances of survival are very small. But there are precedents that can be attributed to New Year's miracles. And miracles need help. Moreover, Christmas trees are one of those few conifers that can be propagated by cuttings. Therefore, choose a spruce no higher than one and a half meters, with thick green needles, flexible branches and a not particularly thick trunk. This one has more chances.

When you bring it home, they drank off the barrel a couple of centimeters. Then moisten a fresh saw cut and dip it in the Kornevin powder, a root growth stimulator, bought in advance in the same OBI or Auchan. Tie it with a damp cloth and leave it on the balcony until the New Year.

Before putting up the Christmas tree, rinse it under a cold shower. This is not for her, but for you: the trees are treated with insecticides, and she will live a long time with you. It is better not to put the Christmas tree in the water, but to put it in a bucket of river sand, but so that the cut of the trunk does not reach the bottom to the width of the palm.

Do not cut off the crown. Spray the tree with the Zircon stimulant, which you can buy at agro-sos.ru or imperia-sadovoda.ru, and generously water the fields with Heteroauxin, which you can buy there. Put the Christmas tree away from the battery, next to it is a humidifier. Use street garlands so that there is no short circuit.

If you did everything right, in a couple of weeks the tree can sprout - fresh shoots will come out of the buds with soft needles. It's too early to rejoice, these are old reserves plus stimulants. Your tree is now stuffed with them like a bodybuilder in an Amsterdam club.

Pour it once with fertilizer for conifers, and the rest of the time, water with "Heteroauxin" and spray with "Zircon". Just put on a gauze mask and then ventilate. If luck is on the side of the tree, by March it may take root. But you don't have to take it out and look. If in the third month the spruce is green and the shoots are growing, then perhaps there are roots.

Suppose it's already May, and the tree is all green. This means that there are definitely roots, although they are lateral and weak. We need to take the tree to the forest. But before that, buy her some mushrooms, more precisely, mushroom mycelium at micoriza.ru. The fact is that conifers do not live without mushrooms, their roots are intertwined with mycelium and this is the only way they can eat. In the first year, the tree does not need this, but if it survives next winter, then the mushrooms will help her. Pour mycelium, fertilizers into the pit, then plant a long-suffering tree there, fields and leave. Then spruce itself - suddenly lucky. But even if not, you will be rewarded for your efforts - the expression on the faces of your neighbors when you carry a green Christmas tree with the remains of garlands past them in May.

While I was looking for information on the topic “how to plant a spruce from a container”, I noticed that many people are interested in the question: is it possible to plant a cut down Christmas tree after the new year? A beautiful, fluffy, green beauty who could still grow long years, for some reason so want to save. Is it possible or not? – we will understand in this article.

Can you plant a cut down tree?

If the tree is cut down, then there is no point in planting it: with a small number of roots, not all seedlings take root, but without roots it is impossible, the tree is almost lifeless and keeps only due to moisture reserves and nutrients in the trunk and needles. He does not have enough strength to grow new roots. Even small branches from spruce are difficult to take root, but what about an adult tree?

And if you bought a live spruce in a container, then your green beauty has every chance. In this article, I decided to describe our history of buying and planting a Christmas tree and interesting discoveries that awaited us after. Read the next article practical advice: how to plant a live Christmas tree and how to help the seedling take root, especially if the tree is older than three years old. And also: when is it better to plant, in spring or winter?

Our story of planting on the site of a live adult spruce.

We recently received a good idea- buy a live spruce (seedling) for the New Year, and then plant it in the yard. It was my dream to decorate a live Christmas tree for the New Year.

We stopped buying cut down spruces a long time ago so as not to support their felling. Therefore, living in an apartment, we celebrated the New Year without Christmas trees, but no less colorful and joyful.

In 2015, we bought a fluffy beauty in a container, in a nursery. Yes, they chose more, an adult, so that there was something to dress up. The price for it (in 2015) was 2000 rubles, and the cut spruce, 2 times higher, cost 400 rubles.

This is what it looked like when I bought it. She was 1.5 m tall with the container.

The seller convinced us that she should take root normally and that she was 5-6 years old. We had no experience in planting conifers, so we trusted the seller and our spiritual impulse.

We arrived, brought it into the house and were glad that our Christmas tree got into the heat, the poor thing would warm up.

The next day I was looking for information about the timing of planting fir trees, I could not find anything sensible, and by chance I started a correspondence with a girl experienced in growing trees, including conifers. They have their own plant nursery. She shared very valuable information, which, I am sure, can be useful to many.

When to plant a Christmas tree in the Kuban

  • The question was clarified: when to plant a Christmas tree in the south in the conditions of Krasnodar and Krasnodar Territory? It turned out that conifers are planted in a state of complete rest, when it becomes steadily colder. It is possible even with light frosts, if only the earth dug and did not have time to freeze deeply. It turns out that in the south, almost the entire winter is suitable for planting in open ground, especially for seedlings in a container. And in the spring it is already too warm for conifers.
  • On Lyuba's advice, we hurried to take the fir tree out into the street and thus saved it from death. It turned out that in conditions of room heat and dry air, seedlings quickly die. For storage, they need a cool room and high humidity.
  • Lyuba advised to calculate the age of the seedling. As I understand it, the older the spruce, the more difficult it is for it to take root after transplantation. And there are many reasons for that.

The calculated age of the spruce surprised us very much - 9 years, no less! It turns out that with age we were misled by reducing it by half. Be careful when buying seedlings!

For a successful planting, it is advisable to take conifers no older than three years.

In the next article, I enclose our correspondence with Lyuba, from which much will become clear. The dialogue turned out to be voluminous and meaningful, so Lyuba's advice helped me a lot. Our overgrown spruce has taken root in a new place, near the house, and in the second year has already given a good increase.

How to create a new New Year's tradition?

It is useless to call for abandoning the purchase of cut down trees and pines, this is what experience suggests. It is better to replace one tradition with another. I think this is not difficult to do if you realize why we need it. If you find answers to the questions for yourself: Why refuse to cut down coniferous trees? What will it give me, my family, nature, planet? It is even better to discuss this topic with the children and look for answers together.

With my stories about Christmas trees, I would like to captivate people with the idea of planting at least one tree a year and teaching this to children, rather than cutting down or buying felled trees. Any tradition is fixed from childhood, in the family.

And if you are looking on the Internet for the answer to the question: “how to plant a cut down Christmas tree”, “is it possible to plant a cut down Christmas tree”, then you feel sorry for her and you would like to extend her life, right? To many people, the tradition of cutting down beautiful and healthy trees, and many are wondering what can be changed?

And why not come to a new tradition: buy a seedling of a coniferous tree in a container for the New Year and plant it after the holiday?

In the warm climate of the Krasnodar Territory and neighboring regions, this is quite realistic, especially for a seedling from a container. And in the northern regions, you can plant closer to spring or spring.

As we will learn from the next article, conifers are just transplanted in winter, and even with a slight frost it is possible. And now there are a lot of nurseries offering seedlings with a closed root system. As a result, instead of a dump of dying trees, the children and I will create and observe new coniferous alleys, forest belts or beautiful single plantations near houses.

I like this idea! How about you? What are your thoughts and ideas on this? Or maybe this tradition is already popular in your city? Be sure to tell me and I will publish this story on the blog pages.

Remember, in a distant happy childhood, when parents brought a Christmas tree, the house was immediately filled with the fresh smell of pine needles and resin. There was a feeling of a fabulous holiday, the expectation of something wonderful, mysterious, which can only happen on the New Year ... Childhood has long gone, but the desire to feel like in a fairy tale again and again remains. For me, three things remained indispensable New Year's attributes: and a Christmas tree!

However, the older I get, the more careful I am with nature. Therefore, a note of sadness is added to the festive mood: it is a pity for the little fluffy Christmas trees and pines that died so that we could decorate our houses with them for a week or two. In the meantime, Christmas markets are full of those eager to buy a New Year's tree, but I don't buy cut down Christmas trees.! So what to do, because without a Christmas tree, a holiday is not a joy? Personally, I don’t like synthetic analogues of firs: apart from longing, they don’t evoke any feelings in me. Yes, uh, but still...

But you can find an alternative when there will be a real live Christmas tree in the house, and after the holiday it will remain alive and well! I propose to consider the most affordable ways.

I'll tell you a secret: Christmas trees that have returned from the holidays are not immediately destroyed! Within 2 weeks they are trying to resuscitate. There are not so many of those who suffered from high air temperature or untimely watering - about 47%. The remaining 53% are sent back to the greenhouses!

Therefore, we kindly ask everyone who will rent a Christmas tree (pine, fir, larch) - do not put them in a room with an air temperature above + 20 ° C! There is no place for New Year trees near fireplaces, radiators, under direct sunlight! High humidity in the room where the Christmas tree flaunts can be maintained by regular ventilation.

How to prepare a landing site: landing pit fill with coniferous earth mixed with sand in equal proportions, sprinkle a little on top with ordinary soil. In the spring, when the landing time comes, the landing hole will need to be deepened a little, drainage should be laid on the bottom with a layer of 2-4 cm. You can treat the root growth system and anti-stress drugs.

They fall asleep with soil mixture: the soil selected when deepening the hole, coniferous earth (ready-made, from the store), sand - all in equal parts. Water, add soil if necessary. Then the trunk circle is mulched with needles, finely chopped branches of coniferous trees, pieces of cones. The most important thing is that the newcomer is safe from a direct hit on the crown of spring sunlight, otherwise a burn cannot be avoided!

Root a cut spruce

In this case, I am ready to argue with those who claim that it is easy and simple. I didn’t succeed even once, although I tried repeatedly: I applied, spraying, a comfortable temperature regime ... The tree stood in a bucket of sand that never dried out. Useless.

Several times the trees created the illusion of rooting: their buds blossomed, from which young light green soft needles appeared. Believe me, once I kept a Christmas tree in the house until mid-May - it did not dry out and did not show obvious signs of growth. In the end, I decided to drop her on the street. I took it out of a bucket of sand, but there are no roots at all. I came to the conclusion that with the arsenal of chemicals available to us, it is difficult for amateurs to bring a cut Christmas tree back to life, or maybe even impossible.

And you know, it was funny to see the expression on the face of the controller, who in mid-April came to read the gas meter and saw a Christmas tree in the hallway in a bucket of sand) He didn’t ask anything, but he really wanted to, it was clearly visible)))

Rooting cuttings

Let's say you bought a cut down coniferous tree, but you want to give its cuttings a chance to live. This method in practice gave positive results, although not very high: out of 40 cuttings of common spruce, only 6 pieces took root. Not rich, but better than nothing!

I just want to warn you: different types of conifers are amenable to cuttings with varying degrees of success! For example, it is almost impossible for an amateur to propagate larch, pine and fir by cuttings! With spruces, there are more chances of success, and cypresses take root most easily and

We answer: - It is possible! But everything is not as simple as it seems.

To begin with, the tree itself must be winter hardy for your region. For example, if you live in Central Region, say, in the Moscow region, and you want to plant the one used for new year holiday a Christmas tree in your country house, so that it will continue to please you for many years, it is better to choose for this purpose an ordinary or European spruce. This tree will be hardy for your area. If you have chosen the so-called "Danish Christmas tree" - under this name Nordman fir (Caucasian fir) is usually sold at Christmas tree markets, it looks much more beautiful and fluffy, and smells more interesting - then be prepared for the fact that it may not to transfer our frosts on your site.

Here's what it looks like:

To preserve it, it is necessary to plant such a tree in places protected from the wind and the southern and southwestern sun on light loamy well-drained soils. And still, very harsh winters the tree may freeze slightly or freeze completely.

The second, and perhaps the most important, problem is that living tree, which should "sleep" in winter, is brought into heat, where it begins to awaken. In our winter apartments and houses, a very unfavorable environment is created for the life of trees of the temperate zone, especially evergreens. The main trouble is the extreme dryness of the air. Sometimes in some houses relative humidity air drops to 4%. Normal air humidity for the growth of coniferous trees should be approximately in the range from 60 to 80%.

  1. If possible, buy a tree in a pot where it was stored during low temperatures, better not higher than plus five degrees Celsius. Then you can expect that the tree has not yet had time to warm up and wake up.
  2. Store the purchased tree on the street, with the lower part covered with snow or sawdust. Can also be on the balcony or on cold veranda, covering the pot with a blanket so that the soil in the pot does not freeze. If you have a cellar or basement with ventilation and a constant temperature of plus four degrees or so, then you can store it there, periodically checking that the soil does not dry out completely. In this case, you should moisturize it.
  3. Before New Year's or Christmas night, the tree can be dressed up where it was stored and brought into the house (or left on the balcony or veranda, if it is visible anyway).
  4. While the tree is warm, spray it with water from a spray bottle as often as possible. Set your humidifier to maximum continuous humidification, if you have one. By the way, this is also good for your health.
  5. As soon as possible, the tree should be immediately taken back to the storage place and insulated if there is a possibility of freezing of the soil. Remember: the less time the Christmas tree will stand in a warm room, the more likely it will survive until spring, when you can plant it on your site.
  6. In March, the tree can be planted in open ground and cared for in the same way as for the rest of the new plantings: water as needed, etc.

Subject to these simple rules there is a chance that the tree will survive and take root in a new place in your garden. Then in the future you will be able to admire it for many years and watch how it grows with your children. And then, perhaps, your grandchildren will tell their children and grandchildren that you planted this tree.

Buying a Christmas tree in a tub is environmentally friendly and responsible. In any pre-New Year's shopping center they are. The main problem is that these are not Christmas trees. Most often these are Danish firs or Serbian omorica firs.

If you find an ordinary spruce (tell the seller "Picea abies" and wink), check if it falls out of the tub.

When you take it out in the fall to plant it in nature, pour 10 cm of expanded clay gravel for drainage into the bottom of the pit, it is in OBI and Auchan. Well fields spruce and passed from the tub into the pit, along with a clod of earth. In a new place, it should stand with its south side again to the south: the trees die from a change in orientation.

If you did everything right, in a couple of weeks the tree may sprout - fresh shoots with soft needles will come out of the buds.

In the first year, the tree does not need this, but if it survives the next winter, mushrooms will help it further.

The temptation is great to cut a pine branch and grow a home tree out of it. However, we must remember that not everyone can easily endure landing in a container. European pine and silt take root quite well.

Please note that planting material is taken in the cold season. Mostly - until the second half of February, while the tree is still sleeping.

Take a look here:

So, we will need:

  • sharp knife;
  • wide and deep landing container;
  • plastic bag;
  • soil();
  • growth stimulant;
  • agroperlite;

We cut a twig 15-25 cm in size. Be sure to make sure that the process is from a healthy paw (the younger, the better). We clean the lower third of the branch from needles. We dip the end into a growth stimulator.

We plant our pet in a container. The composition of the soil looks like this: 1/3 acidic soil, 1/3 perlite, 1/3 moss. If the needles touch the ground, remove them. We cover plastic bag to create a warm humid environment.

In order for the branch to take root, you need to put the pot in a cold place: optimally - on the lower shelves of the balcony rack. Remember that the rooting process in conifers is very long - it lasts for months. All this time, you need to remember about watering and keep the container calm and cool. Do not overwater, otherwise the newly formed roots may rot. The soil should dry out before the next watering.

If the branch starts to sprout new sprouts, then the process has completed successfully. Now you can move our pine, but remember that direct sunlight and heat are contraindicated for it. Accordingly, no window sills above the battery!

But even if not, you will be rewarded for your efforts - the expression on the faces of your neighbors when you carry a green Christmas tree with the remains of garlands past them in May.

The main equipment for these procedures will be a pruner, preferably well-ground, and a container for planting small twigs.

A sharp pruner will help you quickly cut the selected branch without staining you with the resin that stands out. Scotch pine, like many representatives of gymnosperms, is filled inside not with juice, but with resin, which is quickly released when the integrity of its branches is violated. The resin is quite sticky, emits a pleasant aroma and is difficult to wash off hands and clothes. Therefore, it is worth cutting the branch as soon as possible and moving away from the tree.

Preparation Tips:

  • An ordinary small-sized frame made of . A small amount of compost is placed in this frame beforehand. The speed of pine branches will also depend on the composition of the compost. The more fertile it is, the faster the process of root formation will begin.
  • In fertile compost, young roots will be able to gain strength and gain a foothold faster. The best variant of compost in this case may be a mixture consisting of coarse-grained river sand and peat, homogeneous in consistency.

The process of preparing such a solution is very simple: a few crystals of potassium permanganate are added to a small amount of boiled water at room temperature (usually on the tip of a knife) to make a slightly pink solution. They then need to shed the soil before planting pine branches in it. Potassium permanganate crystals have a detrimental effect on most pathogenic microorganisms that are part of peat.

Having chosen the Scotch pine tree you like, with the help of a sharp pruner (for lack of it, a sharp knife is also suitable), we cut off a twig of small length.

If you decide to root a pine branch in the summer, then you may not need a root stimulator.

  • For the development of various pine branches on the surface, spraying with a special fungicide solution is recommended. After that, the planted pine branches are covered to speed up the process of root formation.
  • It is best for sprouting twigs to create penumbra conditions, closing them from direct exposure to destructive sunlight. A frame with twigs can be placed in partial shade conditions.
  • When rooting pine branches in winter, it is advisable to heat up the frame with the planted branches.
Access to fresh air and sunlight has a positive effect on the growth of plant roots.

If all the norms of care are observed, after a few years a beautiful pine tree will grow in this place. In this way, you can grow a beautiful pine tree from its small twig with diligence and care.

I understand: if there is no demand, the supply will also disappear - who will offer a product that no one buys? In the meantime, Christmas markets are full of those eager to buy a New Year's tree, but I don't buy cut down Christmas trees.! Now I will tell you what was the last straw for making such a decision.

We sell Christmas trees not only in the market, but also at supermarkets, gas stations - wherever there is a constant crowd of people. It so happened that on the first day of the new year, I drove past a large store. In the evening, the Christmas tree market was noisy and seething there: buyers tried to bring down the price - after all, there were only a few hours left before the holiday, and sellers tried to raise it, realizing that there was nowhere else to buy a Christmas tree in the village.

So what to do, because without a Christmas tree, a holiday is not a joy? Personally, I don’t like synthetic analogues of firs: apart from longing, they don’t evoke any feelings in me. Yes, yes, but still...

But you can find an alternative when there will be a real live Christmas tree in the house, and after the holiday it will remain alive and well! I propose to consider the most affordable ways.

Rent a tree

Now there are more and more such offers, there are plenty to choose from! What is the advantage: You can order and choose a Christmas tree in advance and it will be delivered to you on the specified day. Live spruce does not crumble, you do not have to constantly remove falling needles. And most importantly - the tree will survive!

Some hypermarkets offer spruces for rent with subsequent disposal - provided that they are returned before January 24th.

Root a cut spruce

Rooting cuttings

Let's say you bought a cut down coniferous tree, but you want to give its cuttings a chance to live. This method in practice gave positive results, although not very high: out of 40 cuttings of common spruce, only 6 pieces took root. Not rich, but better than nothing!

I just want to warn you: different types of conifers are amenable to cuttings with varying degrees of success! For example, it is almost impossible for an amateur to propagate larch, pine and fir by cuttings! With spruces, there are more chances of success, and cypresses take root most easily and
