home orchid dies: what to do and how to save her?

Orchid dies - what to do? Inexperienced growers may encounter such a problem. indoor plants. You can completely despair and abandon the idea of saving your favorite flower, but there is a more optimistic scenario. You just need to take the advice of professionals who will help you take the right measures and provide the plant long years life.

The orchid loves heat and high humidity. At proper care it can bloom all year round.

How to save a plant with excessive watering

Often the cause of the death of an orchid is watering, which is carried out incorrectly. Caring flower owners try to take care of their ward as carefully as possible, so they pour too much water into the pot. This procedure leads to the fact that the roots of the plant begin to rot. Especially if such watering is carried out systematically.

Frequent watering can lead to rotting of the roots of the plant, you need to water only when the bark in the pot dries out.

It is recommended to act in such a situation immediately. The first resuscitative measures are to release root system from damp or even moldy soil. It is necessary to get the plant out of the pot smoothly and carefully, without harming its parts. For convenience, you can make a small dig using an improvised tool at a distance of 6-7 cm from the root.

The root system must be placed under running water and rinse it properly. This event will provide an opportunity to determine the state of the roots. All rotten parts must be removed. Here, garden shears (or ordinary, but very sharp) will come to the rescue. In certain areas of the root system, partial rot lesions can be detected. They should not be completely cut, but only partial (in the most affected places).

To prevent further infection, all cut parts of the system must be treated with some substance that can have an antiseptic effect on the roots. These antiseptics include ground cinnamon or powdered activated charcoal.

All rotted parts of the root should be carefully and thoroughly cleaned and then washed to protect the plant from further damage.

To save the plant, and remove rotten roots, the orchid is transplanted into new soil.

All previously cut sections should be exposed to air for a certain period of time. A small crust should form on the roots. This procedure should take about 24 hours. At the same time, it is by no means necessary to place the plant in water; it is recommended to leave it in any glass container with a neck to protect the plant from damage.

Before transplanting a resuscitated plant, new soil must be prepared for it. It must be chosen carefully to ensure the most favorable conditions for further growth. It is better to buy land in a specialized store. Moreover, the consultant needs to be told what exactly the soil is needed for.

After the specified period, the orchid must be re-planted. It is recommended to do this carefully. The landing method is the most common. The only feature is that when planting in a new soil, a plant dying from excessive watering does not need water for about 7 days. The report must be started from the second day after landing.

Saving a plant without roots

If the orchid has lost its roots, then it will be possible to grow the root system of the orchid from the neck of the plant in a vessel with water. For resuscitation, it is important to correctly carry out the process of preparing the necessary fluid, in which root growth will occur. To save the flower, you will need a root growth stimulator, top part orchid, which has a growing point, water, activated charcoal. Water must be boiled. After that, it must be cooled to room temperature.

To revive the root system of an orchid, the plant is placed in a growth stimulator.

Having cut off the upper part of the plant, you need to wait for the damage site to heal. This process will take about 2 hours. For a faster result, the orchid should be placed in warm room. The place should be protected from sunlight.

Then the flower is placed in a growth stimulator for 20 minutes. After a specified period of time, it must be lowered into water in which 1 tablet is dissolved activated carbon. The water tank should be located in a place where the air temperature is at least 25 degrees. Diffused lighting in the room is desirable.

When carrying out resuscitation at home, it should be borne in mind that the liquid from the container evaporates quickly. Periodically, it should be added to the vessel. In this case, the stem does not have to touch the water. It can freely be located above it at a height of 1-2 cm.

The revival of the root system using the described method is performed for 2 months. As soon as the roots reach 5-6 cm, the orchid can be planted in the substrate.

The soil for the flower, the restoration of the roots of which was carried out, requires a special one. Sphagnum moss is most suitable. It is often used in the preparation of various mixtures for planting orchids. It should be chosen because of a number of its advantages. Moss sphagnum passes a sufficient amount of air, it is light. Plus it's cheap. You can even prepare it yourself. It is an environmentally friendly product. After the resuscitation procedure, when the roots have grown sufficiently in length, the flower is transplanted into the pine bark.

Bad light

Quite often, the plant dies due to the fact that it was not provided with the necessary lighting. Often this problem is encountered in autumn and winter, when sunlight not enough for all living organisms. But this does not apply to all orchids. There are some species that do not tolerate direct sunlight. They prefer darkness.

There is a certain limit of light necessary for a plant, which allows it to feel most comfortable. If this limit is violated, then the orchid begins to fade, all its life processes go astray.

The leaves begin to fade due to the fact that the water supply to them is not properly provided. And here it does not matter how well the plant is watered. After the next recharge, the liquid enters through the root system only to upper layers that contain dead cells. They also do not allow water to penetrate into the deeper layers and carry out nutrition correctly.

In order for the process to stabilize, certain regulatory processes must occur in the flower itself, which can ensure the normalization of water absorption during irrigation. Leaves that receive a sufficient amount of sunlight give certain signals to the root system. For the rehabilitation of each type of orchid, there is a light threshold, which must be provided properly.

At home, growing a beautiful, healthy and regularly blooming orchid is quite difficult. This tropical plant requires a careful and attentive attitude.

With serious violations of technology, it can become seriously ill, lose leaves and part of the root system. Hypothermia, draft, overheating, excessive abundant watering, exposure to scorching sunlight or, conversely, severe darkening can lead to the death of the plant. If you realized at the wrong time and noticed late that your plant is in critical condition - this article is just for you. In it, we will tell you how to reanimate an orchid.

Sluggish plant leaves - a signal of overheating

If the leaves of your orchid have turned yellow, become flabby and lethargic, it may have suffered from overheating. Where is the pot of your plant? If on a windowsill, next to a window that is not covered with blinds or curtains, or in close proximity to a battery central heating, then it is likely that the plant is sick precisely from excessive heat. Is it possible to reanimate the orchid in this case? Yes! The main thing is to act quickly. Remove the pot with the plant deep into the room and leave it alone for three hours. Do not water the flower or spray its leaves until it has cooled. Otherwise, you can cause yellowing and dying off. After three to four hours, when the orchid comes to its senses a little, it can be sprayed and watered with clean settled water. Note that the leaves will not recover immediately, but after three to four days with proper care. To avoid reheating, change the location of the flower pot. Remember that the orchid does not like scorching sunlight, so it is better to shade it or place it some distance from the window. Now you know how to reanimate an orchid if it got overheated. Next, let's talk about what to do if the plant dies

Resuscitation measures: restoring orchid roots

Many phalaenopsis owners are faced with the problem of root rot. Most often this happens due to a violation of the lighting regime, namely due to a significant shortage daylight. Also, this problem can appear due to insufficient watering. If you notice that the roots of the plant turn brown or blacken, their top layer is removed, and when pressed, liquid is released, it's time to take urgent action. How to reanimate the orchid in this case? The degree of root damage can be mild, moderate or severe. In the latter case, there is an almost complete absence of healthy tissues. Gently move the plant to determine the degree of root damage. If it sits firmly in the substrate - most likely, the problem is some dehydration of the tissues. In this case, the roots can be saved by saturating them with liquid. Now we will talk about how to reanimate Remove the plant from the windowsill and leave it alone for about forty minutes. Then place it in a basin or sink with warm water(30 °C - 40 °C) and leave for an hour. During this time, the roots of the plant are well saturated with liquid and become elastic.

We carry out water procedures

After carrying out resuscitation, pour over the orchid from the shower. Make the water temperature comfortable for her. When pouring, try to cover the flower stalks from drops of moisture. Leave the plant pot in the bath for 20 minutes, during this time excess water will be able to drain. Remove with a clean cloth excess moisture from the axils and core of the plant. Place the flower in a well-lit place and keep the room at a favorable temperature of 18 ° C - 24 ° C. After such a procedure, the plant should recover.

We inspect the root system

If water and warm shower do not help restore the plant, then you reacted too late to its disease. But do not despair, even if most of the roots and leaves have died. Remove the flower from the pot and inspect. Surviving roots will be dense and hard to the touch. They can be light, greenish or brownish. Rotten roots are usually dark brown or black in color and are slippery and hollow to the touch. When pressed, water is released from them. Next, we will discuss how to reanimate an orchid without leaves and without roots.

Will a plant transplant help?

After inspection, remove all dry and rotten shoots. If only part of the root is damaged, remove it to healthy tissue. Sprinkle all sections with activated charcoal powder. Without proper antiseptic treatment, the plant will die due to the development of fungal diseases. In no case should iodine or brilliant green be used to disinfect cut points. The alcohol contained in these preparations will dry the root from the inside. How to reanimate an orchid if it still has at least one or two roots 5 or 6 cm long? It can be safely transplanted into a new high-quality substrate and placed in a bright, warm place without drafts. You need to take care of such a seedling as you would a healthy plant: water when the substrate dries out and spray regularly.

The use of growth regulators when nursing an orchid

Experienced flower growers recommend using growth regulators that help strengthen immune system plants. The most commonly used "Epin" (or otherwise - "Epin-Extra"), as well as "Zircon". These drugs help the orchid regain strength. Dilute "Epin" should be in a dosage of 1 liter - 1 drop. In this solution, you can soak the plant from 20 minutes to 2 hours. But remember that growth regulators by themselves are not a magic panacea for everyone. In order for a plant to feel good, it is necessary to create favorable growing conditions for it, including maintaining high humidity air and adequate lighting in the room. We hope that now you know how to reanimate. Take care of the plant wisely, observing all the agrotechnical rules for growing, avoiding overflow, hypothermia or overheating.

Hello dear orchid lovers.

I offer you tips to know how to buy discounted flowers, what to look for when buying, and how to save a dying orchid at home. More precisely, this is a story about what to do if you decide to buy an unhealthy plant, and in particular, phalaenopsis.

My regular readers know that I work in a flower shop. The benefit of my profession is the knowledge of all the secrets and pitfalls that can be hidden in beautiful pots with flowers. Often going to the store you can read on the price tag: "markdown". This is where the danger lies for beginners in floriculture.

Discounted flowers: how to save an orchid

Those flower growers who, like me, fell in love with this tropical beauty, sooner or later they decide to buy phalaenopsis, which are marked down in flower shops. I want to immediately reveal to you the secret of discounting such plants. Knowing the reasons and some subtleties that must be observed when buying, you can buy a completely healthy plant. A professional home care behind an orchid will make you the owner of beautiful flowers after a while.

Reasons for the markdown

The first reason for the markdown of phalaenopsis in flower companies is the lack of flowers on the peduncles.

There may also be no flowers in several cases:

  • the plant has faded;
  • experienced shock during transportation;
  • due to the inexperience of the sellers in the store, it was flooded and if it was not bought in the near future, then in protest the falik can drop flowers (if it is bought, the new owner of the plant will receive such a surprise).

The second reason for the markdown is the drying out of the roots. The first sign is that the orchid is falling out of the pot.

For this reason, you may never know. Experienced sellers will be able to hide it. This is the most difficult case to treat. But you can try. How to save a dying orchid in this case, I told you in the article "What to do if the roots of an orchid dry."

The reason for the drying of the roots can be:

  • poor conditions in the greenhouse (we do not really welcome plants brought from the Ukrainian "New Line"). Often from there we get orchids with a bunch of boogers and fungi;
  • if the plant was flooded at wholesale depots (the plant may not show its diseases for a long time);
  • water burns chemicals(how to save an orchid in this case at the end of the post I will tell in the video). Plants from Holland are often overfed.

The third reason is the phalaenopsis bay.

This is the most common cause root rot. With diligence, an inexperienced seller can water an orchi like other plants, which is absolutely unacceptable with its rare watering regimen.

In the photo you see the roots that have suffered from overflow. In the store, they can be identified by appearance(seen through the transparent walls of the pot).

How to save an orchid without roots

I offer you my experience of saving a discounted plant. Reason for markdown: fallen flowers. The reason for the fall of flowers: chemical burns and insufficient lighting.

So you went to a flower shop and decided to buy a discounted plant. What should be considered in this case and what to pay attention to.

  • Visually assess the plant (if there are flowers, the condition of the roots).
  • Be sure to ask about the type and color of the discounted plant. I am at work, when processing and discounting a plant, I always leave such a thing in a pot (see photo). At home in flowers that have faded, I also make such notes.
  • Try to imperceptibly test the condition of the soil in the pot with your finger. If there is a decent "swamp" - refuse to buy.
  • If the pot is not completely filled with roots, this should alert you: there is a possibility that the roots were removed from the orchi.
  • If you are not yet experienced florist, then do not risk buying plants with obvious signs of disease.
  • A plant falling out of a pot also indicates problems with the root system.
  • White rough spots on the leaves should not scare you - perhaps this is a simple coating from hard water.
  • But spots on leaves, peduncles or roots of a different color or wet spots white color, should alert you.
  • green moss on inside the pot will tell you about the overflow. If the root system does not arouse suspicion, buy, but immediately transplant into new pot and new substrate.
  • Be sure to inspect the orchid for the presence harmful insects. Note that they may not be visible to the naked eye. Their presence will be given out by a sticky coating, a cobweb in the axils of the leaves. Look also at the substrate in the pot.

Here are some of my little secrets. I hope you take note of at least some of them. In conclusion, I suggest you travel to the wonderful world of orchids in Thailand.

Orchid being the most beautiful indoor flower, is very capricious plant in terms of cultivation. Therefore, it is not uncommon for a situation where it remains without leaves. This article will tell you how the resuscitation of an orchid without leaves takes place.

Usually the leaves of orchids begin to fall off after the flower has stopped blooming. Very often the reason that she loses leaves at home is improper care. Of course, if one leaf has fallen, then there is no reason to panic - this natural process. However, if the plant has thrown off all the leaves, you need to understand.

The exposure of the stem in this type of houseplant is usually associated with the condition of the roots. The reason here is excessive flooding of the plant with water. It is especially important to properly water blooming orchids. At the same time, there are rules for watering this flower in different periods of the year. Root at high humidity begins to rot and the flower lacks nutrition.

Except improper watering Excessive fertilization can lead to this situation. They cause a chemical burn of the root system. Rotten roots are not able to perform their functions at the proper level. In an orchid without a growth point, all the leaves fall, which in the near future leads to the death of the flower.

If the roots rotted, then the plant will die in the near future without the necessary resuscitation in this case.

Tidying up the roots

So that the orchid without leaves does not die, it is necessary to carry out resuscitation. And you need to start from the roots. At healthy plants Roots have the following characteristics:

  • they are quite dense;
  • have elastic uniformity over the entire surface;
  • monochromatic color. Dry roots are silvery, while wet roots are green. Young roots are lighter in color. The old ones are characterized by a brown or gray tint;
  • they feel dry, hard and smooth to the touch.

If the roots do not have these characteristics, then they began to hurt and rot. To determine that only the roots are the cause of leaf fall, the flower should be removed from the substrate and its root system should be studied in detail. The following signs indicate rotting or infection:

  • color change;
  • development of slimy and wet areas;
  • when pressed, water flows out of the roots;
  • there are collapsed filiform roots.

If the roots rotted, what to do? All rotten and damaged roots are needed. This is the only way to save an orchid if its roots have undergone pathological processes. Pruning of roots with rotten areas is carried out carefully, down to healthy tissue. Those roots that have dried up are also cut off.

If you remove several damaged root shoots, then this flower will not affect the viability of the flower. Those processes that remain will completely cope with the nutrition of the orchid.

But what if there is not a single healthy root left in the pot? Is it possible to restore the plant in this case? Here, all affected areas should be removed without exception, and the sections should be sprinkled with powder prepared from activated charcoal or crushed cinnamon.

After the powder has dried, those roots that remain are placed in a fungicide solution. This will prevent the development of harmful fungi in the rhizome. When the roots are dry, the remaining root system of the plant should be treated with a growth stimulator to speed up the formation of new shoots.

A plant with dried roots is placed in a new one. The remaining roots are carefully placed in it. It is better to choose a substrate that dries quickly enough. Discard the rest of the substrate. Thus, the resuscitation of phalaenopsis and other varieties of orchids is carried out.

Adjusting temperature and lighting

Many novice flower growers do not know how to save an orchid from death after it has lost all its leaves. It is not enough just to cut off all the rotten roots. Still need to create optimal conditions flower growth at home. And the most important here will be lighting and temperature.

Orchids should be placed on a lighted windowsill in a little shade. In this case, it is impossible for direct Sun rays because they cause burns. Therefore, after processing the roots, the flower should be placed on the eastern, northern and western windows.

The temperature regime for an orchid must be selected depending on the variety. Since some species prefer more low temperature. For them, even +25 degrees can lead to heat stroke. The fact that the flower received a heat stroke is evidenced by shrunken and soft leaves. To avoid this leaf blade should be sprayed periodically with water.

If we restore the orchid after the leaves have fallen, it is imperative to choose the optimal temperature and light conditions for the variety. To do this, the room must be well ventilated. However, you can not put the pot in the path of drafts.

Firming preparations

Another in an efficient way how to revive an orchid without leaves is the use of various strengthening preparations. They can process the root remaining in the plant.

These drugs include primarily growth regulators, which help to strengthen the immunity of the flower. The most commonly used drugs are Epin and Zircon. It is worth noting that it is necessary to treat the roots remaining at the flower with a solution of a certain concentration. The instructions for each such drug have a clear description of the preparation of the solution. One orchid can be periodically treated with different means.

After treatment with such preparations, the plant will restore strength for the further formation of new leaves and flowering. However, this treatment is not a panacea. If the orchid has fallen leaves, it should be applied to its resuscitation A complex approach. This approach to reanimated flowers will allow you to quickly normalize the state of plants and create for them right conditions growth. You may have to wait a longer period to achieve flowering.

To quickly revive indoor orchid, in which all the leaves have fallen at home, flower growers suggest using the following tips:

  • do not wait for the plant to fall off all the leaves, but immediately remove the flower from the pot and check the condition of the roots;
  • track the periods of natural change of leaves, so as not to confuse the norm with pathology;
    • use optional equipment(for example, indoor greenhouses);
    • always transplant reanimated plants into a new and fresh substrate;
    • strictly adhere to the concentration when using strengthening drugs.

    Flower restoration can take from a month to one year.

    Now you know how to reanimate an orchid without leaves so that it does not die at home.
