How to wash the ceiling of foam tiles. How to properly care for foam ceiling tiles. Tools and necessary materials

The tiles on the ceiling are often covered with dust. And in a room where they cook a lot, particles of fat and soot also stick to it. To wash ceiling tiles from foam plastic in the kitchen, you need to arm yourself with a set of special tools and fixtures. Be sure to have store-bought cleaning products on hand. Get rid of unpleasant smell and soot will help folk recipes. But washing tiles can be avoided if you regularly follow preventive measures.

Why does the ceiling tile in the kitchen get dirty?

Styrofoam ceiling tiles in the kitchen get dirty easily

The type and quality of the ceiling coating determines its soiling and ability to be cleaned.

extruded the tile is supplied with a dustproof and water-repellent layer. Due to this, soot and other persistent contaminants do not stick to it. It is more durable and reliable. After deformation, it returns to original form. It is not difficult to clean such a tile.

Stamped foam plates have a porous structure. Because of this, they freely absorb kitchen odors, fumes and splashes, which are extremely difficult to wipe off. Tiles of this type should not be glued in the kitchen. And if this happens, you need to regularly clean it from fresh pollution so as not to have to struggle with old fat and soot.

injection or seamless ceiling material is not afraid of moisture, so it can be washed with water and detergents. From hitting him directly sunlight turns yellow.

The most common causes of tile contamination are:

  • High indoor humidity. Due to moisture ceiling covering attacks fungus and mold, stains appear. To avoid this, before gluing the tiles, it is necessary to cover up all the microcracks in the ceiling. Frequent ventilation and well-functioning ventilation will eliminate excess moisture in the kitchen.
  • Insects. Fly dots look extremely unpleasant on the ceiling. The best protection from them is a mosquito net.
  • Dust and Grease. It is very difficult to avoid these contaminants in the kitchen. Dust flies everywhere, but in the kitchen it becomes greasy and sticky. Therefore, it is more difficult to get rid of it.
  • Cigarette smoke. To prevent the foam from being saturated with an unpleasant odor, you should not allow anyone to smoke in the kitchen.

Deposits accumulated over the years are much more difficult to wash off than fresh dirt. To keep the ceiling in the kitchen looking fresh, you need to make a habit of rubbing it off dirt once a month or two.

Due to the fact that the foam accumulates static electricity, it attracts dust and small debris. Therefore, such a tile gets dirty much more often than a regular whitewashed ceiling. And because of the fact that in the kitchen air hovers a large number of vapors and grease, they settle on the ceiling as well. However, on a smooth shiny surface dirt particularly distinctly replacement.

Under no circumstances should ceiling tiles be washed with solvents.

Styrofoam Ceiling Tile Cleaning Tools

Vacuum cleaner can pick up surface dirt from ceiling tiles

To wash the tiles on the foam ceiling, you need to stock up on a set of equipment that is suitable for this particular case. The work will need:

  • Vacuum cleaner with soft fluffy brush. It is used to pre-clean the ceiling from dust and cobwebs.
  • soft rag leaving no lint.
  • Sponges for washing dishes. If the area of pollution is large, then they will need a lot.
  • Highly absorbent dry rag.
  • Paper towels or napkins. They are needed to absorb excess moisture.
  • stepladder.
  • Fluffy bristle brush, to remove yellowness and fat in hard-to-reach places. The special dust brush Duster will become indispensable assistant in dry cleaning. Its negatively charged soft bristles collect and hold dust.
  • Bucket or basin with warm water . Needed for wet cleaning.
  • Special sponges for washing dirt from foam. They are impregnated with special compounds and easily remove soot and other impurities from the ceiling.
  • Rubber gloves.
  • Protective glasses. When working with chemicals, it is better to protect the eyes from the ingress of harmful components into them. Moreover, during cleaning, you constantly need to look up.
  • Putty knife. After repairs, when drops of glue or putty got on the tile, this device is indispensable. You need to act carefully and carefully so as not to damage the coating.
  • Sponges should be soft so as not to damage the foam
    A spatula is needed to remove traces of glue and putty Eyes and hands must be protected from dust and cleaning agents

    To qualitatively wash the ceiling of foam tiles, you should not rush and apply force. Such actions only harm the coating.

    An important condition for cleaning the ceiling clean and not rubbing dirt into it: you need to change sponges often. They quickly become clogged with soot and instead of cleaning, they smear the fat.

    Household chemicals for foam tiles

    If the foam ceiling is so soiled that it cannot be cleaned with a dry method, they resort to wet cleaning. Areas stained with grease and soot are best washed with compounds that can destroy the oily structure of the stain:

    • Dishwashing liquids: Myth, Fancy, Fairy, Frosch, Big-Eared Babysitter, Sorts, Sarma, Surprise for Cinderella, Help, I Was Born, Childhood World. In most cases, their aqueous solution can easily wash off most of the stains and soot on the ceiling. This mixture is whipped into a thick foam. Only it is applied to the surface to be treated, not water. At the same time, they do not press and rub with force. The foamed mass is only slightly driven in. And if suddenly there is water on the tile, it is removed paper towels or napkins. Otherwise, gray stains will appear on the coating.
    • Laundry gels without bleach in the composition: Eared nannies, Weasel, Persil, Ariel, Gloss, Pemos, Dreft.
    • Hair shampoos. The simplest of them, bought in a store, is suitable for this purpose. To do this, it is diluted with water and whipped until thick foam, which clean the surface.

    Construction and hardware stores also sell special formulations made for cleaning ceilings of various qualities. The sales assistant will tell you what is better to choose for washing a particular type of tile.

    Before using any of the listed agents, its solution is applied to an inconspicuous area of \u200b\u200bthe coating, and the reaction is observed. For this, unused pieces of ceiling tiles are also used. If an undesirable reaction does not occur, then the product is suitable for this type of coating.

    Washing powders are not used for cleaning false ceiling. Even a small particle that does not dissolve in water can leave scratches and permanently damage appearance kitchen ceiling.

    Folk remedies for washing the ceiling in the kitchen

    If there is no desire to use chemistry, then the products used in cooking can help in the fight against pollution just as well. At the same time, they are safe for health:

    • Salt. 1 st. l. diluted in 5 liters of water. Wet a sponge in the solution and apply it evenly on the stain. Do not wash off. The procedure is repeated several times until the other color completely disappears.
    • Vinegar. It is mixed with water in a ratio of 1:1. The liquid is washed with places that have especially strongly absorbed kitchen odors. Do not wash off.
    • Acetic acid. In the fight against old stains, use it undiluted. Wet a sponge in liquid and wipe problem areas. At the same time, keep safety in mind. Gloves are put on the hands, goggles and a mask are put on the face. And do not forget to turn on the hood and open the windows.
    • Alcohol. They moisten a clean white rag, and wipe the stains in a circular motion. The procedure is repeated several times if necessary. Having achieved the desired result, the ceiling is washed with water and dried.
    • Eraser. Manufacturers themselves recommend using this stationery to remove fresh stains. Although it is not used in Food Industry, but the eraser is harmless to human health.

    The chemical industry doesn't make anything special for cleaning Styrofoam tiles. Therefore, do-it-yourself products are no worse than the compositions from the hardware store.

    Wet the sponge with a cleaning agent only slightly. If the liquid drips down during washing, it means that the ceiling will be covered with wet spots that will spoil the appearance of the tile.

    Cleaning steps

    Hard-to-reach places can be reached with a long-handled brush

    In removing dirt from the ceiling, a certain sequence should be followed. This is necessary in order not to waste time redoing your own mistakes. Here's how to proceed:

  1. The entire surface of the ceiling is vacuumed to remove dry dust, cobwebs.
  2. Get to hard-to-reach places with a brush with a soft bristle and a long handle.
  3. Dirty spots are wiped off with a strictly dry cloth or sponge.
  4. Wet cleaning. With help household chemicals or folk remedies are removed greasy spots.
  5. Wash away foreign odors. For this, homemade recipes are used.

If armed necessary tools, means, and set out to wash the ceiling, then everything will work out. The difficulty lies in the fact that the hands quickly get tired of working in this position. Therefore, you will have to rest often.

Ceiling tiles made of foam in the kitchen area are endowed with difficulty in cleaning soot, grease and other types of contaminants. Due to the fact that the structure of the coating is heterogeneous, has a pattern with a recess, this complicates cleaning. To wash the ceiling of foam tiles you will need special tools and detergents.

An effective method for cleaning foam ceiling tiles

Spots and stains on the tile appear due to external influences. Accordingly, the topic of detergents and methods for cleaning the foam surface is relevant. So, washing the ceiling is carried out using soft tissue or regular sponge for washing dishes. The advantage of this method is due to the fact that water will not accumulate in the recesses. Thus, washing will not damage the properties of the foam.

  • First of all, the recesses are washed. Here it is important not to wash, but to clean off the dirt, i.e. do not rub.
  • No water should remain in the recesses, because. this will lead to the formation of streaks after drying.
  • If the surface does not get dry, it is blotted with ordinary napkins.

As for the use of detergents, it is suitable for these purposes standard remedy for washing dishes or used for washing clothes. However, it is recommended to consider the type of plate.

For example, extruded and injected materials are resistant to such agents. Stamped tiles do not tolerate heavy pollution, because. with intensive cleaning, there is a risk of damaging the surface.

Also, when cleaning the foam board, you should pay attention to the pattern: if it is in-depth, then surface cleaning will not bring 100% of the effect. Therefore, you will have to arm yourself with a brush and gently clean off the stubborn stains. Then proceed to wet cleaning.

Method for cleaning the surface of the foam board ceiling

Before starting work, it is recommended to assess the condition of the ceiling surface. In the absence of strong pollution and mechanical defects, you can cope without wet cleaning. A vacuum cleaner is used to remove dust. For the same purposes, a brush with a soft bristle is suitable. This tool allows you to remove dirt in hard-to-reach areas.

However, in the kitchen, tiles are always exposed to steam and grease, so soot forms. In this case, cleaning agents are used. In this case, the algorithm of work will be as follows:

  1. Each stain should be vacuumed, to eliminate the remnants of dirt and dust.
  2. Smoked and greasy stains are wiped with a dry sponge. This will allow the particles to lag behind the surface of the slab. It is strictly prohibited at this stage to use damp cloth or a sponge, because water will soak into the slab, but the stains will not soak.
  3. Cleaning mixture preparation: 1 l. sodium salt is diluted in 5 liters of water. A large sponge wets the solution and wrings out. Then the area with the stain is wetted. It is important to maintain uniformity of pressure on the plate. No need to rinse. Repeat 2-4 times until it goes away yellow from the stain.
  4. Removing unpleasant odors from the foam board. The surface is wiped with a mixture of vinegar and water. The emphasis is on difficult places. Rinsing is not required.

In addition, special sponges are available in stores for removing soot from foam. These tools are impregnated with chemicals and greatly simplify the stain removal process.

Styrofoam ceiling covering can transform the most modest room in the house. With this design, it becomes more beautiful, taller, lighter, more spacious. The advantages are complemented by the ability to hide irregularities, sound insulation and acceptable price. But the ceiling in the kitchen quickly becomes dirty, and therefore requires special care. In order for the surface of expanded polystyrene to retain freshness for a long time, it is necessary to keep it clean. Consider effective ways how to clean ceiling tiles and remove existing stains.

General rules for cleaning foam tiles

Polystyrene is able to accumulate electrostatic charges and attract small particles: dust, dirt, trace elements from tobacco smoke. As a result, the tile ceiling gets dirty. Methods for removing dust and dirt depend on the type of coating:

  • Pressed (stamped)- high porosity and hygroscopicity, gets dirty most quickly and strongly. For tidying it is desirable to clean in a dry way. Washing should be rare and allowed in exceptional cases.
  • injection- moisture resistant, usually has a deep relief pattern. Produced, mostly white and may turn yellow over time. In this case, wet cleaning is used. Concave and convex areas are difficult to clean.
  • extruded– the laminated film allows exposure to moisture.

  • clean regularly, avoid heavy pollution;
  • remove stains that appear immediately;
  • Do not use abrasive materials and washing powder;
  • pre-clean the recesses and the entire coating with a vacuum cleaner with a soft, fluffy brush nozzle;
  • remove the remaining traces with a dry sponge with light cleaning movements;
  • choose in advance how to wash the ceiling tiles: gels or concentrates for dishes, laundry, hair shampoo;
  • take a napkin for wet cleaning from non-shedding material without lint;
  • it is good to wring out the fabric after wetting in the working solution;
  • substances with bleach should only be used to cover white;
  • remove excess moisture from relief structures with paper towels;
  • do not use chemical solvents - you can be left without a ceiling;
  • use protective equipment: gloves, goggles, scarf;
  • during cleaning, hide food and utensils.

How to wash patterned ceiling tiles

The embossed coating looks beautiful and elegant, but it takes more time and effort to return it to cleanliness.

Volumetric ornaments are washed according to the following algorithm:

  • the entire area is vacuumed with a soft nozzle;
  • relief patterns are additionally cleaned with a brush;
  • the detergent is prepared more concentrated to form a persistent foam: 2 tbsp. l. for 100-200 ml of water;
  • protrusions and recesses of the ornament are filled with foam using a porous sponge;
  • one of the recommended compositions is applied to persistent dirt with a brush or brush with a long pile;
  • to remove the cleaning agent, water is sprayed with a spray arm;
  • the remaining moisture is removed throughout the structure of the relief with soft paper towels.

Styrofoam ceiling tile care

Keeping the polystyrene surface clean eliminates the need to wash dirt off it for a long time.

  1. Dust is removed 1-2 times a month with a vacuum cleaner with a furniture attachment. The mode of operation is selected empirically. The initial level of intensity is minimal.
  2. For thorough cleaning relief pattern, a set of soft brushes and brushes with a long pile is used.
  3. A good solution to the problem is to take care of the Styrofoam using a Duster dust brush. Due to electrification, dust and small particles of dirt are well attracted to its villi.
  4. Cleaning is completed by wiping the entire area slightly dampened with water with an absorbent cloth.
  5. Single spots are removed quickly, as they occur.
  6. A more serious impact is made if necessary.
  7. The pressed (stamped) surface should preferably be exposed to moisture as little as possible.

Conclusion

Regular care of expanded polystyrene will keep it in a clean condition. Pollution in the form of yellowness and soot can really be removed folk ways with homemade formulations. From old stains are disposed of by local exposure to concentrated substances.

Styrofoam tiles are often used to create beautiful design ceiling, which is associated with its advantages:

  • high fire resistance;
  • good thermal insulation;
  • moisture resistance;
  • variety of patterns;
  • the possibility of painting;
  • low cost.

But foam tiles require careful care. And a lot depends on the type and quality of the coating. Extruded tiles are considered the most durable and thin. She may have different colors. Thanks to the dustproof and water-repellent film, this tile is easy to clean from dirt. Another option is stamped foam boards, but due to the porous surface, they quickly become dirty. Such a ceiling is difficult to clean, and it is almost impossible to remove traces of grease and soot. Injected polystyrene boards provide good sound insulation, and their surface can be repainted.

Ceiling tiles often show stains and streaks from external influences. And over time, any housewife has a question about how to wash the foam ceiling tiles in the kitchen. Cleaning is carried out using a soft cloth or a regular sponge. The advantage of this method is that water does not affect the properties of the foam.

Cleaning is carried out using a soft cloth or a regular sponge.

First you need to rinse the recesses, and then the entire surface. But at the same time, water should not be left in the recesses of the tile, as unpleasant stains may appear on the dried surface. If you are unable to wipe the surface dry, use a napkin - it will absorb the remaining moisture.

How to wash tiles

One of the main questions when washing ceiling tiles is how to wash them. Perfect for this purpose. But when choosing, be sure to consider the type of ceiling tiles. Extruded and injection tiles will not suffer from such loads in any way, but on a stamped surface, you should not allow heavy pollution so as not to spoil it when washing. When washing foam tiles, pay attention to the pattern. If it is too deep, cleaning may not give the desired results.

Before starting work, assess the condition of the ceiling. If there is little pollution, and there are no mechanical damages, you can do without washing. To remove dust, use a regular vacuum cleaner. A brush with bristles and a soft surface is also suitable - it will help remove dirt in hard-to-reach places.

Tiles in the kitchen are often dirty with soot. Conventional cleaning products will help to cope with it. But if you have any difficulties, use the tips on how to clean the ceiling tiles in the kitchen from soot:

  1. Vacuum all stains, removing loose parts, dust and dirt.
  2. Prepare the areas covered with soot - wipe them with a dry sponge. It contributes to the lagging of stain particles from the tiled surface. Do not use a damp sponge as the water will soak into the tiles.
  3. Prepare a cleansing mixture - mix a spoonful of sodium orthophosphate with a gallon of warm water. Wet a large, clean sponge and wring it out, then apply the liquid to the stained area with even pressure. Do not wash. Repeat several times until the yellowness subsides.
  4. Remove odor from the ceiling. rub the tile with the vinegar mixture, paying special attention to the most difficult places. You don't need to wash it off.

In stores, you can find sponges designed specifically for cleaning soot. They are impregnated with chemicals that greatly simplify this work. These sponges are very easy to use.

If the dirt covers a large area, sponges will have to be used quite a lot, as they quickly become clogged.

The main thing is not to rub soot into the surface of the ceiling, but to clean it off.

If the dirt covers a large area, sponges will have to be used quite a lot, as they quickly become clogged. procedure wet cleaning ceiling from soot can be repeated, and then dry the surface.

Removing old stains

Persistent soot that can remain even after dry and wet processing ceiling tiles, you can try removing it with alcohol, a strong bleach solution, or a solvent. To do this, soak a cotton swab in the selected liquid and treat the stains in a circular motion, lightly pressing on the ceiling. If dirt remains, repeat the procedure, then rinse the surface clean water and dry.

To remove old soot stains, you will need inorganic acids, for example, a solution of hydrochloric acid or undiluted vinegar. Apply them with a small sponge. When working with persistent stains, safety precautions should be observed, protective gloves and goggles should be used, and the room should be periodically ventilated.

If your ceiling has pewter or synthetic tiles, remove dust and dirt from the tiles with a rag. Then wipe the soot stains with a sponge dampened with dishwashing detergent and rub with a dry cloth.

If the ceiling is acoustic or "popcorn", do not wash it or use liquid detergents. The fact is that they are very porous and can easily deteriorate. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust. To launder yellow spots For soot, buy a bleaching spray formulated specifically for acoustic ceilings.

when cleaning soot stains, place bowls of vinegar in the kitchen - they will absorb unpleasant odors. Do not apply too much cleaning agent, it should not drip from the sponge. If you wet the ceiling too much, wet spots will appear on it.

To keep ceiling tiles always clean and do not require repair, install in the kitchen. But most importantly - do not leave the dishes that are being prepared unattended.

Ceiling tiles are a widely used material for finishing ceilings. Despite the low price, the tile has very impressive advantages: it can easily hide slight imperfections of an uneven ceiling and is very easy to clean. With the right choice, such a ceiling will survive more than one repair, so you especially need to know how to wash the ceiling tiles without harming it, and properly care for it.

Features of washing ceiling tiles

Extruded tiles are considered the most convenient to maintain. Their surface is smooth, there are no graininess, and they can be washed by almost any means. Also a huge plus would be a film coating. It repels dust and water. So, the tile does not have to be washed often.

In second place is the injection tile. It is produced exclusively in white, which, of course, speaks of constant washing. Also when hit sun rays with time White color will change to yellow. To avoid this trouble, the tile is laminated or painted in any color you like, since the material allows.

In last place is a stamped tile, consisting of pressed blocks of expanded polystyrene. This material is the cheapest, but also the most problematic. Due to the strong friability and porosity, it is often contaminated, and manufacturers do not recommend washing it. Therefore, when buying such a tile, it is better to take a few plates with a margin, so that in case of severe pollution, you can replace the old ones with new ones.

Causes of dirty ceiling tiles

The impact of external and internal factors are the appearance of stains and stains on the ceiling tiles, which cannot be washed off with plain water. In addition, most often the tile has an embossed pattern, which is capable of accumulating dirt and dust.

If indoors high humidity, then stains or traces of mold may appear on the tile. AT summer period this factor is insects, which invariably leave traces of their vital activity.

Grease, soot and smoke - these stains are constant companions of kitchen ceiling tiles, especially in the absence of a good hood.

All contaminants must be removed as quickly as possible, otherwise they may later become persistent and difficult to remove.

Means for washing ceiling tiles

For injection and extruded tiles, similar cleaning methods are used, for which it is useful:

  • sponge or soft brush for washing dishes;
  • cellulose napkin;
  • dishwashing gel or washing powder;
  • a vacuum cleaner;
  • bucket or basin;
  • mop and microfiber cloth.

In addition, to protect yourself from getting chemicals, it will not be superfluous to purchase goggles and a face mask.

Washing methods

Ceiling tile cleaning methods can be divided into wet and dry. Dry is carried out with a vacuum cleaner, brush and lightly wet wipes. Wet means using enough water and detergent.

Clean tiles with a vacuum cleaner

Experts recommend using this method once a week, so to speak, for prevention. A special nozzle in the form of a small brush is put on the vacuum cleaner, and at low suction power, the tile gets rid of dust at the joints and between small details drawing.

Afterwards, the ceiling can be wiped with a slightly damp microfiber cloth. This method is applicable to all types of tiles, especially stamped tiles, which, due to their porosity, accumulate dust much more often and more.

Brush

Using a soft brush is an alternative to vacuuming and is more suitable for injection tiles, which have a fairly large raised pattern. The risk of touching it with a rough tube of a vacuum cleaner is quite large, and a soft brush will do the same job in a slightly longer period.

Using dishwashing or laundry detergent

If there are traces of dried grease, soot and steam on the tile, then before washing the tile, it is necessary to dissolve these spots. To do this, washing powder or dish gel is diluted in a container with warm water until a lush foam is formed. Foam with a sponge is applied to the tile and remains for further interaction. This will take from 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on the condition of the stains. In the process, new layers of foam can be applied several times. After the allotted time, the tiles are cleaned with a soft abrasive sponge.

Even if the tile has a waterproof coating, experts still recommend not applying too much liquid.

After removing greasy and other types of stains, the tiles are washed with a mop and a microfiber cloth. At the end, excess water is removed with a cellulose napkin.

If there are traces of mold or water stains on the ceiling tiles, it is almost impossible to get rid of them. It is best to dismantle the damaged cells and eliminate the cause of these spots, and stick new ones in place of the damaged plates.
