Flowers that grow only in Japan. Indoor plants in the Japanese interior. Work with a limited color palette

Today, very often homeowners want to arrange their summer cottage in Japanese style. The visiting card of Japanese culture is not only rock gardens, but also flower gardens. After all, as you know, the eastern countries can boast of their amazing flora and the ability to recreate truly original compositions from it. In addition, the Japanese have special feelings for flowers, putting a certain symbolism into them. Floriculture in Eastern countries is carried out both on a large scale, organizing delightful flower gardens, and privately on their estate territories.

The Japanese treat the "art of flora" with special reverence, admire the beauty of flowering plants, use them to decorate their homes and dining tables. For example, not a single tea ceremony takes place without decorating the table with flowers grown in one's own garden. It is worth saying that today it is possible to grow Japanese flowers on the territory of our country, even taking into account the climate of our latitudes. Next, we will talk about the names of Japanese flowers and how they can decorate your site.

Features of Traditional Japanese Flowers

The features of traditional Japanese flowers include the following:

  • Japanese plants grow in a mild and warm climate, so appropriate conditions should be created for them in order to prolong and improve their survival in our latitudes.
  • Beautiful Japanese flowers love an abundance of moisture, so these plants should be watered regularly at regular intervals. However, excessive zeal is also not worth it, since stagnant moisture can provoke root rot and the development of a disease such as gray rot.
  • Varieties of Japanese flowers should be planted in sunny glades, as in the shade or partial shade their flowering will not be so bright.
  • The Japanese are always experimenting with plants, adding something new to their varieties. For example, when breeding varieties, they try to cross plants so that the flowering of new flowers is more abundant and lush.
  • Japanese flowers are designed to decorate not only suburban areas in a "live" form, but will also be an excellent addition to arranged flower arrangements.

Landscape planning for a summer cottage and a Japanese flower garden

Before planting Japanese flowers, you should definitely draw up a landscape project for a summer cottage and a plan for a future flower garden. So, if we take into account the beginning of the 90s, it can be noted that the builders and designers of that time faced many obstacles that they could not overcome due to the weak development of the architectural industry. Today, even the specific relief that the regions of our country have is not an obstacle to the construction of beautiful summer cottages.

As you know, many regions of Russia cannot boast of a uniform relief, since in some places the height difference is several meters. Such a landscape is a significant obstacle to the further design of flower beds and country garden. The Japanese flower garden is no exception, for decorating which it is advisable to choose a flat and horizontal platform. The primary task in such a situation is to strengthen the shedding soil. To strengthen the slope, it is possible to use special mesh structures - gabions. They do not require a special foundation and cladding, so they are very convenient for landscaping.

Uneven terrain, in addition to steep slopes, puts other obstacles in the way of development Japanese gardens- these are obstacles in the form of decays between two hills. Sometimes builders solve this problem by building a special "dam" that fits perfectly into the landscape. The resulting "dam" can be decorated with a structure alpine slides, waterfalls, miniature ponds, etc.

When arranging the landscape of a summer cottage in the Japanese style, a huge role is given to design work, since during their implementation it is possible to conduct an ideal analysis of the existing territory, taking into account all the features. Then, based on analytical data and measurements, it is possible to draw up a successful project for the future site, and thereby find rational decision, which after a certain time will be able to make your dream a reality.

Making a Japanese-style garden plot will provide you with a large area for creativity. The garden can be decorated different characters in the form of stone sculptures. Recently, various characters, animals have become popular. For example, these may be unusual shape flower pots. In general, any object that can be skillfully played with plants will become a bright decorative detail that gives your garden a personality.

Schemes of Japanese flower beds in the country

Once you have decided which Japanese flowers you want to grow on your suburban area, you should draw up a diagram of the flower garden.

The main difference between Japanese flower gardens is that flower beds here they must be combined with stone compositions. Japanese-style rockeries include evergreen stunted shrubs and trees, as well as figures made of stones.

You can use one of the suggested schemes:

They can help realize several ideas on one site. For example, make a corner wildlife, and in the neighborhood with it to recreate this or that composition from a stone.

If you decide to use decorative lattices, then do not forget that they are also an excellent framework for vertical gardening. In general, any vertical structure that you put in a Japanese garden will serve as a platform where you can place vines and various compositions in decorative baskets. Such structures are usually made of wood, but are sometimes made of metal rods or even bamboo.

Japanese flowers: video

Good day, ladies and gentlemen.. Tea? Today, as the title of the article suggests, we will discuss the flora of Japan..
So what's your tea?
Okay, okay, let's get started! about:
One of the most common trees in the Japanese islands is the Japanese zelkova. Deciduous tree up to 30 meters tall (Wow, what a giant) and with a trunk 2 meters in diameter with a dense crown and scaly bark. Leaves are light green in spring and summer, changing to a gorgeous golden orange in autumn. Well, just a chameleon

Everyone has probably heard about birches and seen them, but did any of you see a Japanese birch?

Japanese birch is found mainly in Hokkaido, although it can also be seen in the highlands of Honshu, in the Nagano region. The Japanese do not treat birch as reverently and romantically as the Russians; rather, they even try to avoid it. All thanks to the white color of the bark, because White color in Japan - a symbol of death and mourning. Japanese white birch beautiful tree up to 30 m high.

Iron tree. Probably all of you now thought that this is a tree made of iron, but I want to upset you - this is the same tree. Well, such a wooden > :З

Most often, enoki grows there - the "iron tree", whose long branches provide good shade. A tree up to 20 meters high with leaves up to 15 cm long. These are the leaves * - *. The upper side of the leaf is slightly shaggy, matte, dark green, the lower side is lighter, with white pubescence, especially along the veins. The top of the tree is smooth, but the edges are sharp!

Cryptomeria japonica is an endemic plant of Japan and China, where it forms pure forests in the mountains.

The Japanese name for this tree - sugi - is gradually replacing the old name - Japanese cedar. Cryptomeria, or sugi, beautiful evergreen tree with reddish, soft, fibrous bark, peeling off in long strips, up to 40 m high.

The wood of cryptomeria is fragrant, soft, light, resistant to decay, sometimes with beautiful pattern, easy to process. It is used as an ornamental material and for the manufacture of barrels for aging sake.

And now a little about the origin of one of the trees in Japan: >

Sakura is the name given to trees of the pink family, most of which perform a purely decorative function: they bloom, but do not bear fruit (unlike other trees of its kind, Japanese sakura is grown not for berries, but for flowers). There are 16 types of sakura and over 400 varieties. The Japanese, annually contemplating the beauty of this amazing plant and looking at the fragility of its flowering, they reflect that the beautiful is not eternal, and life is fleeting and fragile. And therefore, it very much resembles a crumbling sakura flower - although it is beautiful, it leaves too soon: it is not in vain that sakura blossoms symbolize the frailty of life and the changeability of being.

There are a lot of ancient trees in Japan and the Japanese have taken advantage of this. Instead of selling the wood of these trees, they created parks and now everyone can admire these giants, but of course, not on a charmak: D

Jōmon Sugi, which means "cryptomeria of the Jōmon era", which is 7200 years old. The tree has become a symbol of Yakushima Island and in 1993 it was included in the list of world natural heritage sites. More than 300,000 Japanese tourists visit Jomonsugi every year. It is strictly forbidden to touch it, so it is fenced with a fence.

And with this, I will end my journey through green Japan >:З

Choose plants for your Japanese garden very carefully. In such gardens, there are few flowering plants, and most often they are not there at all. Primarily the Japanese garden is the realm of evergreen conifers. They occupy a special place there as a symbol of life (pine as a symbol of longevity - first of all!)

Having set ourselves the task of choosing plants for such a garden, special attention should be paid to their shape, what color their greenery will be in spring and summer, how the foliage will be colored in autumn, and also the shape of bare branches in winter. The garden should be beautiful all year round.

When planting, you need to take into account the scale ratio of plants with all elements of the garden (stones, pond, and others). Be sure to choose a harmonious color combination basic plants with each other, with different ornamental grasses and mosses. Consider shades of green - this is important! Dark ones are in the background, light ones are in the foreground.

All these plants and varieties are great for creating a complete oriental garden in our climatic conditions, and just to create an "oriental" mood or corner. No need to chase exotic rare plants that can freeze in our harsh winters. Agreeing with the basic principles of the Japanese garden, find beauty in what is at hand.

Japan is a country of mysteries, an amazing culture, for a long time closed to the West. The development of Japan proceeded completely independently and parallel to the development of European civilization. And only in the XIX century the Meiji era came, which marked the rejection of self-isolation and the openness of the Land of the Rising Sun to the outside world. It was then that there was a massive interest, even a fashion among Europeans for everything Japanese. Japanese painting gave impetus and determined a special direction in the development of Western art. The paintings of many impressionists and post-impressionists were created under the influence of the famous Japanese prints. The Art Nouveau style that spread in Europe also borrowed a lot of details from the unique Japanese culture.

For people who want to bring beauty into their existence, the Japanese view of the world must be close and interesting. For the Japanese, in principle, an aesthetic approach to the surrounding reality plays a huge role in life. They know how to admire the rising sun, falling snow, cherry blossoms. unhurried contemplation fleeting beauty of the transient world is one of the favorite pastimes of the inhabitants Japanese islands, reflected in their amazing poetry - haiku. However, the style of Japanese interiors remained incomprehensible to Europeans for a very long time, its elements were not very widely used in design. Only since minimalist design has become widespread and recognized have many decorators adopted the techniques used in Japanese interiors.

The fact is that the main thing in home improvement for the Japanese is amazing conciseness. Those. there is practically no furniture in the room, wardrobes, carpets, sofas - all this is unacceptable for a Japanese-style interior. A single standing bed - tatami, like all furniture, must be low. The materials used in the decoration are exclusively natural: wood, stone, cotton and hemp. Bright colors are also unacceptable, clean lines, natural colors - that's what the interior in this style is based on. Screens illustrated with Japanese-style engravings are widely used. The Japanese interior is characterized by symmetry, the use of calligraphy, simple, elegant forms and soothing tones of the color palette.

Speaking soberly, obviously, not every European will like empty rooms and bare walls. Of course, there are lovers of minimalism who readily reproduce the features of a Japanese home in their apartment. But for most of us, the oddities of the Japanese interior will remain incomprehensible, because we expect comfort from our home, first of all. And to find it in a huge, undecorated space, you have to be Japanese. After all, even various accessories, little things and trinkets that bring individuality and warmth to a European's home are unacceptable for a Japanese interior. However, a huge number of lovers of Japanese culture are very happy to use individual design elements. Japanese house. After all, you can create an interior stylized as Japanese, which will be cozy in a European way, but with all its details will remind you of the culture of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Such interior elements will be Japanese engravings - either reproductions of works by great masters (for example, Katsushika Hokusai and others), or simply pictures drawn in the Japanese style. A branch of cherry blossoms, like nothing else, will remind you of distant Japan in the midst of a harsh Moscow winter. You can put an image of sakura on the wall or use flowering plants that resemble cherry blossoms in vases. To give your interior a Japanese spirit, you can use the colors characteristic of Japanese design: dark, but not massive furniture, doors that resemble the doors of a Japanese dwelling. However, one of the most important details, with which you can bring the spirit of Japan into your apartment, of course, there will be indoor plants.

In fact, Japanese-style houseplants are not widely used. But if we create a stylization for a Japanese interior, it is home flowers that will most remind you of the nature of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Naturally, the most logical way to decorate a Japanese interior would be to use plants grown using the technique of magnificent Japanese art - bonsai. They can be placed on separate Japanese-style stands on a table in the center of the room. The easiest option would be to buy finished plants grown in flower farms. But if you have time, and, most importantly, enthusiasm, it is quite possible to grow your own tree.

For interior decoration in Japanese style, it is best to use those plants that grow in Japan.

Of course, those plants that grow in Southeast Asia are very appropriate in the Japanese interior. And the most beautiful and fashionable among them, of course, can be called everyone's favorite phalaenopsis. Caring for this plant is simple, it can be placed even in the back of a bright room. No less suitable, but more difficult to care for, will be other orchids, for example, vanda, cumbria, etc.

A room reed is very suitable for a Japanese-style interior - a pogonatherium plant, which will allow you to reproduce in reality the bamboo branches often found in Japanese engravings. Even more reminiscent of bamboo is the now very common dracaena Sander, which is sometimes called that - good luck bamboo. Perhaps you will get it in the form of spirally curved stems with leaves on top or in the form of intricate pyramids. Either way, this plant is extremely hardy and will bring the most Japanese vibe to your home.

Fits great in japanese design fatsia, its specific name is unambiguously of Japanese origin. In addition, the carved leaves of Fatsia are very reminiscent of the leaves of Japanese maple, often found in the engravings of Japanese masters. In this sense, indoor ficus microcarp will also be quite suitable. It can be grown in the style of a bonsai plant. But even if you bought it in a store with funny thickened roots, it will still fit perfectly into your Japanese-inspired interior.

In conclusion, I would like to add that the abundance of plants, as well as an excessive amount of furniture and accessories, is still inappropriate for a room in which we want to see a trend of Japanese style. Simplicity and conciseness are an invariable attribute of the room, the design of which is inspired by the culture of Japan.

The garden can have a variety of purposes: it can be arranged for contemplation, harmoniously combining stones and plants, a garden for family recreation, which is usually organized according to the patio principle, a park for sports competitions with a perfectly even emerald lawn, or the garden closest to us with tall fruitful trees. Today, many areas of our lives include the cultures of other countries, including the cultural characteristics of Japan.

When creating a Japanese garden, it must be remembered that this style involves the use of the maximum amount of natural and natural materials.

In addition to Japanese cuisine, cinema and entertainment, Japan has revealed to us the amazing art of creating a Japanese garden, whose harmony and consistency of details amazes our aesthetic perception.

If you like Japanese landscape design and you want to enjoy the beauty of a Japanese garden on your suburban area, then you should first find out what exactly this creation should be Japanese art and how to choose the right plants for a Japanese garden.

Japanese garden and its types

The scheme of creating a bowl for water in a Japanese garden.

The earliest gardens in Japan had a purely landscape function. In the course of their evolution, they became a place for religious and philosophical reflection. Such is the Jodo Garden, the design of which necessarily includes a lake with a broken coastline, islands and a temple. Over time, the design of Zen gardens appeared, which were monastic and temple. The design allowed these parks to be completely devoid of plants, which gave way to sand, pebbles, and rocks. Tea ceremony gardens are also considered Zen gardens. These gardens have always been small sizes, with a bench, a path, a special tsukubai vessel, which is intended for washing hands, and an oribe - a stone lantern.

The Japanese garden in the “dry landscape” style was arranged as follows: on fine gravel or sand, which symbolized water, parallel furrows were drawn with a special rake, which personified the running of waves on water.

In the 19th century, the design of miniature gardens called tsuboniwa appeared in Japanese landscape art, which were arranged near residential buildings. There are tsukubai and oribe, paths, a stone step at the entrance and a minimum number of plants. This garden is designed to emphasize the unity of man by nature and shows the immensity of the universe in a small area.

How to choose the right plants for creating a Japanese garden?

The Japanese Garden considers the world of plants in the same way as the park, in its entirety. Moreover, the symbol of the variability of the universe (yin) are blooming, deciduous shrubs and trees, and the symbol of constancy (yang) is evergreens.

Plants are selected in the Japanese garden, as a rule, with flowers of the same color and green leaves. Highly great importance has the texture and shape of the leaves. Bright colors are not common in the garden, variegated and red-leaved forms are very rarely planted in them, it is quite enough that the leaves of plants change color in autumn. The most original in this park are topiary figures, molded plants and bonsai. A variety of umbrella and weeping forms of plants have a very spectacular appearance, but get carried away with mixing various forms not worth it, because traditionally in Japanese kindergartens homogeneous woody compositions, which creates harmony.

Choice of woody plants

The choice of shrub and woody forms of plants is very wide, in without fail junipers and pines, cypresses and spruces, deciduous rhododendrons and evergreen azaleas should be used, oriental views maple (green-skinned, Manchurian, false sibold). In the spring, the Japanese garden is full of flowers. various kinds apricots, plums and cherries - this is the so-called "sakura", which includes several groups fruit plants. In addition to these trees, small-fruited ornamental apple trees with an umbrella-shaped or weeping form crowns, apple trees with crimson and pink flowers and their red-leaved forms.

In Japanese parks, trees do not grow freely, but are periodically trimmed and shaped. The Japanese type of cutting woody and shrubby plants is fundamentally different from the Western. In classical regular gardens France, Italy, as a rule, cubic, pyramidal, spherical and other, unusual for plants in natural conditions geometric shapes.

In Japanese-type parks, plants are molded according to completely different principles, imitating the natural landscape. considers a tree as an ordinary plant, but growing in different ecological conditions. Large trees cannot grow in small gardens. According to this principle, the choice of plants is based. The proportion is as follows: the larger the garden, the smaller the plants grow in it.

Not many species of plants suitable for shearing grow in middle lane Russia. It is known that they cut their hair well and at the same time keep their shape. small-leaved shrubs. When forming the shape of shrubs and crowns of Japanese garden trees, one method is used, which consists in induced curvature of trunks, elimination of small and weakened branches. Crown sections must be formed so that the plant looks visually balanced. The methods and technique of molding are the same as for the formation of bonsai. The formation of tree crowns will take approximately 15-20 years.

How to choose the right plants for flower decoration?

The Japanese garden is decorated in a rather peculiar way in terms of flowers. This is another difference from European gardens, in which the floral decor acts independent element site design.

In a traditional Japanese garden, flowers always act as an addition to something, a detail that is designed to enhance the impression. Gardens, designed in the style of a natural landscape, are classified as historically ancient; they tend to have a larger area with a predominant majority of shrubs and trees. Only in such a garden can you see a Japanese perennial with large flowers.

Miniature gardens are distinguished by the species richness of plants. In abstract and symbolic gardens, stones act as a background, combined with ground cover plants. In tea ceremony gardens that emphasize natural beauty, the coloristic effect is achieved due to plants that contrastly change the color of leaves and fruits throughout the season.

The design of the Japanese garden allows planting such herbaceous plants: hostas, ferns, rogersia, rhubarb. Among the flowers, preference is given to peonies and irises. Plants of meadowsweet, bathing suit, buzulnik, cornflower, chrysanthemums and black cohosh are also welcome in the garden. In the form of vines, you can use clematis (the best natural species with smaller, but very elegant flowers), Amur and parthenocissus, Amur Kirkazon.
