Material properties

The resulting material has a density of 40 kg/m3. The coefficient of thermal conductivity of polypropylene foam is 0.0344 W / (m3 * K), tensile strength - 1.35 MPa, compressive strength - 0.183 MPa.

This is due to the fact that polyethylene foams do not have the ability to resist compressive loads, have weak molecular bonds and, unlike foamed polypropylenes, are more susceptible to aging.

The dynamic modulus of elasticity (the main indicator for this class of materials) for foamed polyethylene increases by 98% over 12 months of operation, which significantly worsens the noise insulation characteristics, while for foamed polypropylene this indicator increased by only 6%, which does not affect the sound insulation characteristics.

It is important to note one more parameter - the “impact index”, which for polypropylene was 22 dB and remained so after 12 months. This fact allows us to say that during the subsequent period given value will remain stable.

The impact noise reduction index for polyethylene foam decreased to 14 dB after 12 months. In other words, after 2–3 years of operation, the polyethylene foam cells “collapse” and the thickness decreases - accordingly, noise and cold are right there.
