It seems to be soft, but there is no such characteristic elastic and lively effect!

A whole year passed until the friends who came from Italy found such a chair, not by chance. It was so beautiful, huge and silvery that the hand did not rise to cut it. Yes, it was not necessary. The case appears to have a zipper. And inside is another case. And in that case - tiny peas. What would you think, of course, Styrofoam! Darkness-darkness of cute white balls. Who would have guessed that they just have an unbearable character? But more on that later.

Do-it-yourself frameless furniture is incredibly convenient, comfortable and beautiful. After sitting and lying down on such an armchair, we can relax our back, and the whole body as a whole. Such stunning chairs are simply adored by children and animals. And it all started with a curiosity. And, of course, in the homeland of design - in Italy. In the sixties of the twentieth century, young designers Cesare Paolini, Franco Teodoro and Piero Gatti came up with a kind of punk movement "Antidesign".

The guys made absolutely crazy furniture. Including armchairs without frames. Colored water was poured into bags made of transparent PVC fabric. These works resembled huge packages of yogurt. Such furniture at design exhibitions looked very scandalous, of course. But it just looked. It was impossible to operate it. Water is very heavy in itself, and the fabric simply torn under its weight.

But Italy is the birthplace of not only artists, but also adventurers. Industrialist Aurelio Zanotta had a business sense. He liked the crazy idea, and after thinking about it, he made his changes, which made the bags practical chairs. Aurelio replaced PVC with a durable fabric, and water with foamed PVC balls. Foamed granules are very harmful. Putting them in a ready-made case is impossible! According to the law of static electricity, the balls fly up, then completely sideways, and finally stick to everything. A very beautiful sight, but I do not advise repeating it. For the rest of your life, you'll be picking nasty pellets out of all sorts of places. I have developed two methods to stuff the harmful balls inside the case.

First: sew a long zipper, for example, a meter long, into the inner case. Then you can stuff the whole bag into it, cut it inside, and take it out, and the balls will remain inside. Second: make a large paper funnel, and fill the crumbs through it. Then there is no need for a long lightning. Paper also removes static electricity.

Previously, this miracle could only be bought in construction stores in big bags. Now, when frameless furniture is mass-produced, there are special granules packaged in one hundred liters. First you need to prepare a pattern of wedges (since they are the same). In the example diagram, the height of the parts is 1200 mm, and the width of the bottom is 450 cm. The width of the upper part must match the length of the side of the hexagon, which is the “lid”, that is, in this case it is 210 mm.

In order for the bag chair to turn out symmetrical, the pattern can be made half. Only one part of the part is built on paper (the element seems to be cut along), and the left and right sides are alternately drawn on the fabric.

The bottom consists of 4 parts. It is necessary to prepare a pattern for the upper and middle parts of the bottom. Moreover, 2 separate upper parts are cut out (in mirror image). But the middle part can be cut as 1 element (first the left, and then the right part).

We match all the marked points arbitrarily, connecting them in turn with a smooth line.

Cutting fabrics and sewing

The bag chair should be sewn sequentially. That is, first cut the inner cover and only then take on the outer one. So you do not get confused in the blanks.

Spread the fabric wrong side up on the floor. Lay out all the details of the pattern. An approximate diagram of their location is shown in Fig. 3.

When planning the cut, do not forget about the seam allowances.

Since they will all be inside the product, they can be made equal to 1.5-2 cm. Next, all the details of the pattern need to be circled. To do this, use a piece of chalk or dry soap. Do not forget that some elements need to be flipped and mirrored.

If you have a good eye, then the wedges that make up the bag chair do not have to be cut out separately. You can fold the fabric 6 times and cut it with equal allowances. In order for the pattern not to move, pin it with pins.

When cutting the top cover, follow the direction of the grain thread and the pile of the fabric. Flip pattern to different directions it is impossible, otherwise the product will turn out to be deformed, and the pattern of the material will be located in different directions. Then your bag chair will look sloppy.
