Macrame, you are my macrame: pillows and blankets. Cushion for weaving Hanging chair in macrame technique

As you know, the easiest way to freshen up the atmosphere in a room is with the help of accessories and other small design elements. Non-trivial decorative pillows - the most best way at the same time give newness to a place to sleep and / or rest and provide yourself with additional comfort. At the same time, with the implementation of our current project, you will not need any special skills in sewing or knitting. The only thing is that it is desirable to have sewing machine.

To you will be required:
- Strong fabric medium density, stretching to a minimum, width - about 115 cm, length - 0.9-1 m;
- Sharp long scissors or round knife and a mat for cutting;
- Fabric marker, crayon or pointed bar of soap for marking fabric - as needed;
- Pins, a lot;
- Sewing machine;
- Iron and ironing area;
- 2 safety (aka English) pins;
- Cardboard tube from under paper towels, decorative wrapping paper (longer, more comfortable) or from toilet paper;
- About a kilogram of stuffing - preferably not cotton wool, but more modern light material;
- A long stick (or any equivalent) with a width slightly less than the diameter of a cardboard tube (for pushing through the stuffing);
- A regular needle and thread to match the color of the fabric.

1. From the fabric we cut 6 strips 15.5 cm wide and about 1 m-90 cm long.

2. Cut off the short sides, and then sew all the strips together into a single long ribbon. At the same time, we make an indent from the edge of at least 0.6 cm. As you attach, do not forget to remove the pins - in front of the sewing machine needle. We cut the final tape to a length of 5 meters.

3. From the inside, open all the seams and iron them with an iron, as shown in the picture below.

4. Full length (one long side connects to the second long one) fold the tape in half front to front. We chop off the edges with pins, sew on a typewriter with an indent from the edge of 0.6 cm. We get a pipe made of fabric.

8. We break off a safety pin and with it we cut off the same end of the pipe, but now both layers of fabric are together, “sealing” the pipe so that the filler does not fall out of it. We begin to pull the opposite - open - end of the pipe from the fabric onto a cardboard tube, collecting the fabric into tight folds on the cardboard. We stretch until the cardboard rests on the pinned end of the fabric pipe.

9. We begin to stuff our fabric pipe, using a long stick for convenience. We push the filler to the very end of the cardboard tube and, as the packing is compacted, gradually, very slowly, the fabric tube from below will begin to peel off the cardboard tube itself. We continue until we completely fill the pipe - not too tightly, because you still have to use it as a huge “cord”, but also tightly enough (and evenly) so that the pipe, even after crushing it in your hands, quickly restores its shape (all- this is the future).

10. We reached the opposite end of the pipe - and we cleave it tightly with a second safety pin so that the stuffing does not come out while you begin to twist your huge “cord” into a macrame knot.

11. Follow the detailed instructions below in the pictures, for clarity, made on a regular cord, and fold a double eight from our stuffed fabric pipe. Do not do it your way, do not deviate from the instructions, because only this one will eventually bring the ends of the pipe together. As the work progresses, check that the pipe is sufficiently packed everywhere, push the packing to the required place and add more if necessary. Do not let the pipe bend anywhere, forming sharp corners.

12. As soon as the knot is finished, insert one end of the pipe into the other and pin the fabric with pins from above and below. Then sew by hand. Or we bend the raw edges of both ends of the pipe inside out and sew them together (the edges of one tip with the edges of the other) manually with a hidden seam. Ready!

Finished decorative pillow in the form of a huge macrame knot looks great both on a sofa or armchair in the living room, and on the bed in the bedroom.

Macrame is one of the varieties of nodular weaving. For thousands of years, it has been used by people to create clothing, get food, and even helped invent knot writing.

It is believed that this species artistic activity existed in the East already in the 9th century BC. Wickerwork for various purposes were known in early Egyptian art. With its help, weaved nets for catching fish, and also made various decorative items and ornaments of an unusual shape.

AT Ancient Greece wickerwork was used in medicine for the treatment of fractures, as well as in mathematical science - in the form of entertaining puzzles for children and adults.

According to people, knots and wickerwork had magic power, thanks to the connection of several strands into one. Sailors wove chains and cords that were worn around the neck or tied to the top of the mast. This simple action was supposed to protect them from troubles at sea.

Today, the art of macrame is flourishing again, and many needlewomen are fond of it. In the macrame technique, various products are woven, many of which become an integral part - decorative panels, flower pots, as well as accessories and some items of clothing.

In order to take full advantage of this ancient species Needlework, you must first get acquainted with the devices and materials that will be needed in the process.

The simplest element decor "Owl" is available for even beginner needlewomen

Materials and tools

To create products using the macrame technique, you will need the following tools and fixtures:

  • Pillow for weavingworking base for making products in the technique of macrame. The pillow should be firm enough. It is best to cover it with a checkered fabric. This is necessary for ease of calculation.
  • Pins with round heads- necessary for fixing individual knots and giving the desired shape to a wicker product.
  • sharp scissors- for cutting threads or cord.
  • Centimeter- for measurements.
  • crochet hook for pulling threads

For weaving, you can use threads, cords, braid, thin soft wire, as well as narrow ribbons made of plastic materials. Cotton material is the most suitable for the job, as it happens different thickness and has a low cost.

Linen material is durable, pleasant natural color, and at the same time it is well tied into knots. Woolen material is suitable for color work due to the wide colors however, it tends to stretch and tear more than plant fiber materials.

Synthetic materials (kapron, nylon and many others) are smooth and high-quality, they are not afraid of dampness and are not subject to rapid abrasion. However, synthetic knots tend to unravel. It is advisable to use them together with cotton and woolen materials.

Decorative details can be glass, wooden, plastic beads or small elements from, as well as buttons, buckles, metal and wooden rings and other accessories.

Execution process

The beginning of work is the preparation of the mounting cord. It should be somewhat thicker than the weaving cord and 4–5 cm longer than the width of the product. At the ends of the fastening cord, knots are formed to secure the cord with pins to the working cushion.

In many works, the role of a fastening cord is played by various objects: metal rings in, bamboo or wooden sticks in a magazine rack and panels, plastic rings or buckles in belts, and so on. Choosing the basis for the product, you need to proceed from the features of its shape and functional purpose.

When it is planned to make a two-layer product (it can be a bag or a wallet), a pillow or bar is wrapped with a fastening cord, and the ends are tied on the side. Weaving goes in a circle. However, double products can be woven single, and then sew the sides.

To weave macrame, you need to learn how to weave knots and fasten the yarn on the fastening cord (carrier thread):

  • First way- the thread is folded in half, forming a loop, the ends and the loop are under the carrier (fastening) thread. The ends of the thread are pulled into a loop.

  • Second way- the loop is on the carrier thread.

  • Third way- the thread is hung in the second way, and then both ends are wound from both sides through the carrier back, and brought out from behind into the loop formed at the bottom.

The thread around which knots are woven is called the "knotted" or warp thread. The threads that are involved in tying knots are called "workers".

Weaving simple knots

  • Knotted chain- This is a weaving on two threads. In the course of work, working and knotted threads change all the time. With this type of weaving, one thread of the coil is formed, then from one side, then from the other side, alternately with one and the other end.

It is important that the nodes are directed to different sides. You can weave two knots in one direction, and two in the other.

You can also weave a chain knot all the time in one direction - this way you get a twisted cord. A beautiful cord is obtained from four threads, when the two middle threads are carriers, and the outermost threads are intertwined in turn.

  • - these single knots in a pair represent one double flat knot. You can start weaving double flat knots from the left or from right side, but in all work it is the same. Usually each needlewoman chooses any one option. When repeating a double flat knot, a flat cord is obtained.

  • wrapping- if it is necessary to collect loose threads in a brush, then most often they make a kind of macrame element, which is called "wrapping". It is performed in two ways.

First way- the threads are collected in a bundle, then the thread is cut 20 cm long and the ends No. 1 and No. 2 are placed along the bundle. A loop is made from the upper end of the thread No. 2. Loose threads are wrapped around the end of thread No. 2 so that the wrapping rings go up and neatly fit together.

Second way- the end of thread No. 2 is inserted into the loop, and the other end of thread No. 1 is pulled down so that the loop, together with thread No. 2, goes beyond the wrap rings, but does not go down. The remaining end of thread No. 2 is cut off, and the end of No. 1 is left in the brush.

Macrame - panel

Thus, the simplest knots in the macrame technique are performed. By combining them, you can create different kinds products and decor items - bookmarks, belts, scarves, planters, shawls, jewelry, bags and wallets.

Macrame is a technique that originated several centuries before our era. It involves the creation various items by knitting knots. Decorations and interior items created in this way look stylish and have a certain magical charm. They can become not only part of the design of your home, but also great gift for relatives and friends. To better understand the macrame technique and feel its spirit, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with it in more detail.

The history of the art of macrame is rooted in the times of ancient people. In fact, the moment when the first knot was tied can be considered the birthday of this technique. Later, people learned to weave nets from grasses and animal hair, this method is still used today.

Until recently, it was believed that macrame, in the form in which it is presented now, originated in China and Japan, but during recent excavations in the territory ancient egypt jewelry and household items made using this technique were found.

Slavs wove using macrame technique great amount interior items and clothing, for example, bast shoes, quivers for arrows, belts, ammunition for horses, etc. According to conservative estimates, about twenty professions in Kievan Rus were associated with this technique. In pagan times, with the help of knots, amulets were woven, which were called nauzes, a conspiracy was read on each knot of such a talisman, protecting its owner from various misfortunes.

Some time after the change of the pagan faith to the Orthodox, macrame was banned as it was considered a witchcraft art.

In the 16th century, in Italy, the first schools teaching this type of creativity were opened, in which children were described in detail the technology for creating various gizmos using the macrame technique. In these educational institutions and the first macrame alphabet was created, which includes detailed description techniques for making various patterns. The name macrame itself appeared only in the 19th century, from Arabic it is translated as “lace” or “fringe”. To some extent, knitting and crocheting, as well as embroidery, can be called offshoots of the art of macrame.

What you need for macrame: choose materials

The main material in macrame knitting is thread, they can be thin and thick, natural and synthetic, white or colored. Their choice directly depends on what product you want to weave. In order to make a wallet or jewelry as a gift, silk or thin synthetic thread is suitable, for weaving a hammock chair, you can not do without twine, clothes for a dog can be knitted from not very thin cotton rope.

There is such a technique as micro-macrame, with its help clothes are made, as well as beautiful and elegant jewelry, the finest threads are used for this type of needlework.

Macramé supplies can be found at an art supply store. You can buy them as a set, but it is much more profitable to assemble them separately.

In addition to the threads, you will need some more materials and tools:

  • Tailor's pins, with which you will pin the threads to the surface;
  • Special pillow for pinning threads;
  • PVA glue, a soldering iron, or a lighter - you will process the ends of the thread with them so that they do not fray;
  • Scissors;
  • Centimeter;
  • Beads, beads, stones and others decorative elements;
  • Accessories for jewelry and interior items (for example, in order to make a hammock chair you will need a hoop, and for earrings or a pendant you may need a metal ring).

In addition to these tools, novice craftswomen may need a book with clear and simple descriptions and patterns of weaving various products, as well as detailed instructions describing how to knit different knots.

Macrame technique: making a special pillow

A special pillow for macrame will greatly facilitate your work on weaving the product, because the threads attached to such a device do not get tangled, and it is easy to knit neat knots on them. To obtain an item similar in properties to such a pillow, you can dismantle old chair and use its upholstered seat for your own purposes or make this device with your own hands.

A brief description of how to make a macrame pillow with your own hands:

  • Cut out a square of about 40x40 cm from plywood or wood;
  • Sew a cover from soft tissue, corresponding to the size of a wooden square;
  • Insert the square into the case;
  • In a case on top wooden base pour sawdust or insert a piece of foam rubber;
  • Sew up the hole in the case.

On the homemade pillows you can embroider different patterns to make them more attractive. If you do not have time to make such a device, you can pin threads to the back of a chair or armchair, however, in this case, for safety reasons, after completing the work, the seats must be checked for pins.

How to weave macrame braids

Pigtails are an integral part of the macrame technique. With the help of them decorate belts, bags and even scabbards of swords. When they finish making recumbent hammocks or panels on the walls, braids are woven from the remaining threads.

There are many ways to weave this element. We will analyze the most common:

  1. An ordinary braid of three threads is performed as follows: the first strand on the left is thrown over the second (with the first becoming the second, and the second becoming the first), then the third strand is thrown over the second. Weave the threads in this way until the braid reaches the desired length.
  2. A French braid can be woven from any number of threads. In order to weave such a braid, you need to: select three central threads from all the threads, make one element of an ordinary braid from them, then weave a simple braid, but add a new extreme thread for each transfer of the main thread.
  3. Braid weaving " fish tail» can be performed from a large number threads, the essence of this method is that you divide the threads into two groups, and throw the extreme threads of each group into the center. In this case, these two threads in the center change in groups.

A braid is perhaps the simplest element in the macrame technique, which is the easiest to learn to weave, with its help weaving many products is completed. Curtains between rooms or functional areas you can also decorate with such braids, they will fit perfectly into East style interior.

Advanced macrame knot program

Macrame is a nodular technique, in the arsenal of which there are a huge number of knots. different forms. There are special programs that teach experienced craftsmen, they include almost all complex elements.

To independently learn all the ways to tie decorative knots, you need to spend a lot of time.

Brides of rep knots, flat and square knots are considered the basis of macrame technique. All other patterns are knitted from these elements. For example, with the help of square and flat knots, you can tie an openwork fabric, and with brids make a braid of rosary beads or weave a Christmas tree.

Let's take a quick look at three examples of complex elements:

  1. Pea by appearance resembles a barrel or a ring, it is used for decoration wall panels and Christmas balls. To make such an element, you need to tie a column of five square knots from 4 threads and thread the central threads into the hole above the first knot between the two left and two right threads, then pull the threads until the first square knot touches the last one, tie from these and two extreme threads a square knot.
  2. The interlaced knot has an openwork weave, and its individual elements are a circle with a rhombus inside. To perform it, attach six threads folded in half to the base. Take the first 4 threads and mentally number them. Put the first thread on the left on the second and third, and stretch along the fourth. Pull the fourth thread under the third, and put it on the first, then pass it under the second and bring it back to the first thread.
  3. The bump knot looks very voluminous and beautiful, to weave it, you just need to make a column of three “pea” elements.

We have instilled only a small part of the possible elements of macrame. To become a professional in this type of needlework, first of all, you need to learn the technique of circular weaving, how to reduce and increase the length of the rows in the product, learn how to braid stones and beads, finish the product, and so on.

Description of macrame products for kids

An excellent gift for a new mother will be various crafts in the macrame technique for a baby, because products that are made with love and care by the hands of loved ones are always better than purchased analogues. Also, choosing natural threads, you can be sure that a toy made from them will not harm the newborn.

A beautiful portable cradle made using the macrame technique will be a great gift idea. This design is very stylish and necessary item.

Using the macrame technique, you can weave a mass various decorations for a children's room, or a spinning pendant for a cradle, you can connect a fish, a hare and other animals made in a knotted style, and also insert a small device where a lullaby will be recorded. Older children can make interesting figures, for example, spider or dinosaur boys, and roses or a kitten for girls. Schoolchildren can be presented with a stylish handle braided with knotted patterns.

How to braid a macrame stone

Many necklaces are made using semi-precious stones. Such products look expensive and noble, so they can be a great gift for mom, beloved friend or mother-in-law.

Master class "Weaving stone":

  1. We tie the threads to two needles stuck into the pillow, which must be placed at a distance of 3 mm greater than the thickness of the stone. We take a spool of thread of the same color.
  2. We pull the right thread and tie a looped knot on it with a thread from the coil, then we tie the same knot on the left thread, while the distance between the right and left threads should be equal to the distance between the needles.
  3. We knit, thus, the braid until its size reaches the circumference of the stone. The ends of the braid when winding the stone should be difficult to connect to each other.
  4. Remove the product from the needles, now it must be tied around the stone and tie the upper ends of the left and right threads together with a triple knot.

Now, to finish the job, you need to thread all six threads through 2-3 braid links. Leave the extreme threads, and burn the central ones with a soldering iron. You should have an invisible seam.
