Indeed, this is a real fighter. It is classified as an ordinary herb, but has the appearance of a sinister warrior. The spindle-shaped root, like a drill, is deeply screwed into the ground. The thick, erect stem is covered with a woolly cobweb. For 2 years of life, the plant reaches a two-meter height.

Wing-like branches of the tartar are dotted with sharp yellow thorns. Branches up to 1.5 m wide. The leaves are oval, elongated, serrated at the edges. Each tooth is crowned with a poisonous thorn, and the surface of the leaf constantly secretes a gray sticky secret. When you meet such a huge thorny bush that looks like a bird of prey, you want to turn off the road.

It is classified as an ordinary herb, but has the appearance of a sinister warrior.

The flowering period begins in July and lasts until mid-autumn. Spiny baskets appear at the tips of the branches. They contain 3 crimson inflorescences, resembling small asters. At the time of ripening, the basket closes, leaving a bunch of dried straw-colored petals on the surface. The ready-to-propagate seed container is very light and has an unusually grippy quality. With the help of the wind, on the fur of animals and on the feet of random passers-by, the Tatar grass goes to populate new territories.

The properties of the thorny weed have been studied for years. folk wisdom developed into recipes and passed down from generation to generation. The plant was collected with extreme care, in thick mittens. And this is not surprising: by the autumn of the second year of life, the thorns of the Tatar turn into cold weapons.

Unscientific methods of traditional medicine have given their results. Empirically, a wide range of healing properties this weed.

Until now, there are no published scientific papers on its chemical composition and therapeutic properties.

Very strong ability to coagulability of blood is revealed. This property is mainly used externally for wounds. of varying complexity. But theoretically it can be used in hematological diseases. When hemophilia was discovered in the son of Nicholas II, all means available at that time were thrown to fight the disease. But there was no heir to the throne in the blood required amount a protein responsible for stopping blood. Having carried out all possible diagnostic procedures, the doctors of that time realized that they would not be able to cure Alexei Nikolaevich. The only thing left for them was to try to improve the quality of his life. Some historians describe that a doctor was brought from the Tatar lands to the court of the emperor. In his arsenal was the Basurman prickly grass, with the juice of which he tried to alleviate the difficult condition of a sick child. With the help of the Tatar, the healer managed to make the heir's blood cleaner and thicker, increase hemoglobin and blood pressure.

Drugs prepared on the basis of the powder from the roots of the tartar and the oil of its seeds act depressingly on many types of pathogenic bacteria. Actually simple level this property of the plant is successfully used in the treatment of purulent wounds and many others. skin diseases bacterial nature. But besides this, cases are described in which the prickly tartar helped in the cure of botulism. This is a very serious disease, which in its advanced form often leads to death. The difficulty lies in the fact that the causative agent of the disease is of animal origin. It is resistant to impact chemicals and temperature treatment. The toxins produced by the botulinum bacterium accumulate in the body and completely infect nervous system. With the help of the Tatar man, ancient healers managed to completely localize this serious illness in the initial stage.

Finally official medicine drew attention to the incredible strength of the Tatar. Currently, it is even used in the fight against cancer. In combination with chemotherapy, its use gives successful results. Especially, after operations related to the removal of cancerous tumors, to prevent relapse. Everyone knows the fact that surgery does not give a full guarantee of getting rid of the tumor, because in the process of growth it constantly releases cancer cells into the blood, which spread throughout the body. The property of tartar to block the growth of pathogenic bacteria and purify the blood increases the protective qualities of the body.

AT traditional medicine common tartar is considered the strongest natural antibiotic. Many healers describe its power in the fight against infections of the genitourinary system and fungal diseases of a venereal nature. Of particular interest is the described case of the treatment of neurosyphilis by a Tatar man.

In those days, when doctors were not yet able to conduct accurate laboratory research, it was difficult to diagnose this disease. The infection entered the body sexually and, developing, gave out symptoms that looked like either meningitis or cerebral fever. Confused healers did not have time to come to their senses, as the disease completely destroyed the nervous system, causing paralysis and death. But with the help of treatment with infidel grass, it was possible to completely defeat this terrible disease.

Poison Doppelgänger

In nature, there are a lot of plants that look like prickly tartar. Yes, almost every healing herb or edible mushroom there is a toxic twin. To avoid sad consequences, it is important to learn to distinguish between them. Basurman grass is often called thistle or thistle. This is not only erroneous, but also a dangerous delusion. Basically, some similarity is confusing. This is not surprising: thistle and tartar belong to the Asteraceae family and have similar features. However, it is absolutely different plants with dissimilar properties. To understand this, it is enough to conduct a comparative characteristic.

The main thing that is confusing is the almost identical flowers and the presence of thorns. Both weeds bloom in adult form, but the thistle has a height of no more than 20 cm, and the tartar is more than 2 m. Therefore, the growth characteristic is the main criterion for distinguishing between these plants.

It is impossible to compare sow thistle and prickly tartar, medicinal properties and their contraindications. Because these plants are complete opposite each other. Basurman grass has incredible healing power, and thistle is not used in medicine. Not only that, thistle is toxic and poisonous plant, in the history he is given a separate page.

Since ancient times in Russia, the thistle has been personified with evil spirit, endowing this ubiquitous weed with the dark energy of evil. In Europe, on the contrary, he was considered reliable protection from enemies and a symbol of inevitable punishment for crimes. And in old england he was decorated with family coats of arms, and the knights named their orders in his honor.

My love for cacti began with a gift, and this gift was made by mom's friend. Under New Year they brought me a small tray, and in it, in yogurt cups, small cacti! I don’t remember exactly how many there were, probably 6 pieces. These were tiny babies separated from an adult plant. Well, from that moment it began! My kids got accustomed perfectly, then they moved to larger pots. And I started buying new ones. I really love them!))) So I'll introduce you to my not very large, but very valuable collection for me!

Without it - nowhere! The most traditional, the most common, my thorn. I still have a little one, you can say, compared to what they are. But, despite the small growth, it pleases with flowering! late spring or at the beginning of summer, 1-2 buds appear on it, resembling a willow. They develop very slowly. At this time, I generally try not to touch the cactus, not to move it. Well, as a result - such a beauty! A flower on a long flower tube, 20 cm, 10 cm in diameter, blooms in just 2-3 hours, before our eyes. Watching this is a pleasure. He is gentle pink shade and exudes a delicate aroma. Indescribable beauty! It is a pity that it does not last long, a maximum of 2 days. The peculiarity of caring for Echinopsis is that he loves nutritious soil, to which I add humus. The dishes for him are more spacious than for the rest, I water them often and abundantly during the growth period, and of course I feed them. In winter, like everyone else - a period of rest.

Next is my little one Mammillaria Gracilis! Very easy to care for, it blooms almost for me all year round, respite only a couple of months in winter. It grows quickly and forms such a bush, completely covered with flowers in the spring. I use special soil for cacti, she doesn’t need a large pot at all, in spring and summer I water once a month with mineral fertilizer for cacti.

Mammillaria Prolifera
grows in a large bush, in the spring it is completely covered with cream flowers. This is my smallest one. Getting ready to bloom, just about to bloom.

And this Mammillaria Chaniana , I have had it recently, about 1 year, but it has already pleased me, it bloomed in the spring, it was all strewn with bright purple flowers.

And another mammillaria

My giant rocky cereus, as they say in books, this is the result of a natural anomaly associated with a violation of normal growth. In order for it to grow really giant, it is necessary to plant it in a spacious pot with a good nutrient mixture, less sand and more land, humus (but poorly rotted organics are dangerous for him). It costs me sunny place, in the summer I water abundantly, in the winter in dryness and coolness. And it is very important to periodically treat from pests, for prevention. It also propagates easily from cuttings.

and a slightly smaller one...

And a simple cereus, not yet very big

You can say my pearl - Echinocactus Gruzoni! He has everything super-cactus: a spherical, bright green stem, large areole pads and very spectacular powerful, slightly curved spines. The story with him was not easy) I bought 2 small specimens, 3-4 centimeters in diameter, but they did not take root with me. For the third time I bought on sale, a discounted copy that I lost beautiful view, on the verge of death, so to speak) I thought, I’ll try again and if it doesn’t work out, then I won’t do it again. And he, as they say, to the evil of his enemies, survived and grows further, now he has already grown to such sizes, 15 cm in diameter. But it must be said that it is growing slowly. He needs care "typically cactus", hot summers with bright lighting, cool dry winters. I do not add manure to the soil. Sometimes I spray to wash off the dust from it). He also does not need large dishes.

And this ferocactus , handsome, bluish hue with long spines. It is a pity that it grows very slowly, in general room conditions blooms, but mine, apparently, has not matured yet. I don’t add organic matter to the soil for it, I also need good drainage, I water it very carefully.

My handsome Espostoa Lanata , majestic, reminiscent of an old man). Grows unfortunately too slowly enough. Initially, there was one stem after 1.5 years, another 2 went from the root. It has been growing for me for 7 years for sure. It really needs bright good lighting (an inhabitant of the mountains after all). I make the soil for it loose, with good drainage, without organic matter. In winter, it is at rest for three months, I do not water it at all. In summer, watering is also careful, it is better not to add water.

I've been looking for this guy's name for a long time. Myrtillocactus geometrizans! It stretches into a large column, of a very spectacular bluish-green color, grows by 3-4 cm per year, and each growth is visible, it differs in color. I plan to plant several copies in one pot.

Another columnar cactus stetsonia corine , I have already reached a solid size. He likes spacious dishes and a lot of light. His spines are the most "cactus", as shown in cartoons, 6-7 cm long.

And one more - Hageocereus very cute and growing fast. But he needs the brightest lighting and warmth, otherwise he begins to stretch, turn pale. I had 2 of them and they didn’t want to branch in any way, they grow with one pillar and that’s it. I decided to try to cut one off, cut it off about 2/3, slightly pointed the cut part and put it in vertical position, after 1.5-2 months the roots went and I rooted it in the ground. And on an adult specimen went side shoots, 3 pieces, I left them like that.

Another of the cereus, but I did not find the exact name for it.

I love prickly pear, but unfortunately I only have two Opuntia microdasis, with yellow needles, and the other with brown ones (purchased recently, therefore still small). My prickly pear is a little over a year old, grew from one segment, so it grows quite quickly. I make the soil for her with sand and good drainage. In general, it is very unpretentious, a beautiful bush quickly forms. But it must be said that it is dangerous for animals and small children, the spines are very small and crumble, if they get on the skin, it is very difficult to get it. Once I read how the Indians cope with this, they drip melted wax on the place where the thorn fell, it hardens and peels off along with the thorn. The method works, I checked!

Of the epiphytes, I have a couple of Schlumberger, one is scarlet, the other is pink, but unfortunately I did not have time to photograph the flowering ones. What I like about them is that they are easy to care for, the most important thing is to water and spray. Water abundantly from the appearance of buds until the end of flowering. They also breed well, a couple of branches broke off from me, I put them in water, a week later roots appeared and I immediately put them into the ground. Prefers a bright, but not sunny place.

Well, an unidentified object so far)))

In general, for everyone I try to use a special soil for cacti. Only for Echinopsis and Cereus do I make nutritious soil with humus. Since October I have been reducing watering for everyone, since December I have not watered at all. I start watering gradually in March, in May I start using mineral fertilizer. Well, I treat it with fungicides for prevention. And if something happened to one of the specimens, I try to separate the healthy part and root it. Rooting, as it turned out, is also very simple for everyone. We separate the children or part of the stem and leave until the roots appear. Some sprout roots not at all quickly, for example, cereus, it may take a month or two. I either put the cuttings vertically (for example, if the cutting is wide in diameter, then I put it in a glass of yogurt, it turns out, as it were, in limbo), or I simply leave it to lie in partial shade.

I also have other pets.

Zamioculcas I have recently, so small. Optimal lighting for him is bright diffused light or partial shade. I water carefully when the earth is already dry, the main thing is not to fill it.

For quite some time now, Ficus Benjamin has been growing with me, it is not growing very fast. Likes spraying, but moderate watering.

The fern grows very quickly and pleases with its appearance. I realized one thing that he big pot not needed. Long time I grew it in a large planter, or rather, did not grow at all). Then I transplanted it into wide and not deep pots. And here is the result. I water often and spray frequently.

Euphorbia capricious almost like cacti) I water carefully so as not to flood, in winter a relative dormant period. I wipe the leaves. It happens that in the fall it can shed its leaves, not all, of course, but a lot. Easily propagated by seeds (which it scatters abundantly around itself). The one on the left is just the same from a seed.

And there is also a yucca, but it is a slightly different species than you are used to seeing. Because I didn’t cut it, now it is about 2 m tall and I like it more in this form)
