How to make a brazier with your own hands from metal: choose details and sizes. Types of metal braziers and their optimal sizes Which one is better to weld the brazier yourself

Everyone's favorite summer dish is barbecue. These juicy pieces with a crispy crust and an appetizing “smoke” flavor are prepared by stringing pre-marinated meat on sharp rods - skewers, frying on hot coals laid on the bottom of the grill. The design of the brazier itself is usually a metal box on legs with perforations for air circulation and small recesses on the walls for the convenience of laying skewers.

Types of metal barbecues

Based on the dimensions of the barbecue are divided into:

  • stationary;
  • portable.

Stationary barbecues equip in suburban areas. Often they are made with forging elements, trimmed with stone or installed on a brick base. This adds to the appearance of aesthetics and exclusivity. If the brazier is equipped with a canopy or installed in a gazebo, then it is possible to cook kebabs and other dishes on it in almost any weather.

Used in hiking, when going out into nature. They differ small size and weight. Often such barbecues are folded into a metal suitcase.

Most simple model portable barbecue consists of two metal frames on which skewers are placed. The disadvantage of small portable barbecues is the inability to cook at the same time a large number of servings of barbecue.

More complex, but also heavier models can be supplemented with a small pull-out table, grates, and adjustable airflow. But such advanced options have an impressive weight, so it is much more comfortable to transport them in a private car than to carry them manually.

If we classify the braziers according to the thickness of the metal from which they are made, then the braziers are divided into:

  1. - thin-walled;
  2. - thick-walled.

thin-walled usually make portable barbecues. Steel of small thickness makes it possible to lighten the models, but the durability of the structure suffers. In thin-walled barbecues, only ready-made coals purchased in stores or prepared in advance on a fire can be used. If you cook coals directly in the metal box of the structure, the steel will quickly burn out and the brazier will become unusable.

thick-walled usually make stationary models. For this, steel with a thickness of more than four millimeters is used. Such options are significantly more expensive, but the service life is much longer than that of barbecues with thin walls.

A standard brazier has a rectangular cross section, however, you can make a device for frying barbecue with your own hands from a gas cylinder or an old barrel. But the use of a container for fuels and lubricants is not recommended. The main thing is that the thickness of the metal is sufficient for the possibility of long-term use of the structure.

In addition to the barrel itself, you will need: a welding machine, grinder, drill, metal corners.

1. We make markings and cut off the upper half of the barrel with a grinder, leaving the ends in place. We will subsequently make a cover from the cut off part.

2. We make legs for the barbecue from metal corners. We cut the corners into four identical parts and weld them to the end of the barrel.

3. We measure the length of the barrel and cut off two corners equal to this length. They will serve as a support for skewers. We make cuts on the corners every 4-6 centimeters (guides for skewers) and weld them onto the inside of the barrel.

4. Metal hinges and two handles must be welded to the lid. This will protect the brazier and coals in case of rain.

Do-it-yourself non-separable metal grill

A collapsible brazier consists of: four legs, the same number of rectangular walls with perforation and a bottom.

Before starting work, we carry out a drawing and prepare materials.

Necessary materials:

  1. steel sheet;
  2. metal corners or rods with nuts, from which we will make barbecue legs;
  3. welding machine and electrodes;
  4. drill;
  5. grinder with cutting wheels or a hacksaw.

It is more convenient to make a drawing of the future barbecue on sheets in a cage. Be sure to indicate the length of the legs, the dimensions of the brazier itself, indicate the distance between the perforations on the walls and the guide chamfers for the skewers. The optimal number of chamfers is 8 pieces. The distance between the holes for ventilation of the bottom should be chosen from 7 to 10 cm, it is better to place them at a height of 5-10 cm from the bottom of the barbecue. The length of the legs is chosen individually.

Work order:

  1. On sheet metal, we mark the walls and bottom of the barbecue. We take the thickness of the metal 1.5-2 mm, but it can be thicker, this will increase the service life and ensure optimal heating of coals and food.
  2. By marking, we cut the metal with a grinder or a hacksaw for metal.
  3. We drill perforations on the walls.
  4. With a grinder or a hacksaw, we make cuts on the upper edges of the walls of the barbecue.
  5. By welding we connect the bottom and walls of the brazier.
  6. To make legs, metal corners are sharpened at one end, cutting off part of the metal at an angle. This is necessary so that the brazier enters the ground more easily.
  7. By welding we connect the corners and the metal box.

If the legs are made of metal rods, then 4 identical nuts are welded to the corners of the bottom of the brazier, the rods are divided into four parts, each of which is threaded. Thus, a brazier with collapsible legs is obtained, which can be unscrewed if necessary.

Another option for collapsible legs is metal corners with holes for bolts, with which they can be screwed to the barbecue box, and after use, unscrew and fold. But for this you have to wait for the metal to cool after cooking.

If the legs are long enough, it is advisable to connect them in pairs with metal jumpers to strengthen the structure.

Do-it-yourself collapsible metal grill

To make a fully collapsible metal brazier, a welding machine is not needed. But a drill, drills, a hacksaw or a grinder with cutting discs, bolts and nuts, a steel sheet 1.5-2 mm thick, metal corners for legs, and a tape measure will come in handy.

The first two points of work are the same as when performing a non-separable brazier - drawing and cutting out the details of the brazier from steel sheet. But when performing a collapsible barbecue, you should add 3-4 centimeters to the joints.

Collapsible metal brazier - scheme

On the side and end walls of the brazier, we make small cuts and bend the sheets so that it becomes possible to join the corners and lay the bottom.

For a strong connection of parts during cooking, we drill holes for screws in the side edges.

We make the legs from pointed corners in a similar way, drilling holes in the walls to connect the walls of the barbecue and the legs with bolts.

The last point is the assembly of the finished structure.

Folding metal brazier

The design of a folding metal brazier is similar to the design of a non-separable brazier. The section is rectangular. The difference is that the walls of the brazier are not welded to each other, but are connected by movable furniture skirts, which allows you to fold the brazier after use. In order to prevent the walls from folding by themselves, we attach metal hooks to the upper part of the walls by welding.

This type of grill is very convenient for transportation.

Corrosion protection

It is desirable to protect any metal structure from corrosion, then it will last longer, and the appearance will be much more attractive.

Only special heat-resistant paints can be used to paint the brazier. They are sold in car dealerships in the form of an aerosol (such paints are applied to a car muffler).

Instead of painting, you can change the structure of the metal. Oxidation or bluing is a process in which a black heat-resistant film is formed on the surface of the metal. For bluing, pre-clean and degrease the surface metal parts, then for one and a half to two hours the metal is kept at a temperature of 140 degrees in a solution of caustic soda (50 grams per liter of water).

It is difficult to imagine culinary processes in the open air without barbecues. These devices allow you to create incredible delicious food. There are many types of grills on the market. However, often the owners independently construct such devices. How to cook a brazier? Often just different designs are obtained. Their formats are determined by the owner's goals, financial capabilities, site parameters and the working skills of the creators.

Design selection criteria

Very often, in the matter of choosing a material for a barbecue, preference is given to metal. It is characterized by durability, resistance to serious temperature conditions and other factors. Some components of the structure are fastened different ways. But the welding method is the most reliable and optimal in this matter.

Today, cooking the barbecue correctly is the starting point. Many owners want to create not some ordinary designs. And so they equip them with additional elements. These include:

  • Firebox in which you can heat up food.
  • Special compartments for drying firewood.
  • Shelves for various culinary additives and spices.

If you set out to cook the barbecue with your own hands, then in front of yourself creative process study photographs and diagrams of various modifications. They are easy to find on the web. So you choose specific model. It is useful to watch video tutorials. In them, the masters describe in detail and practically the welding of the structure. This helps to be aware of the potential complexities of the upcoming case in advance.

In practice, the creation of a metal barbecue is not so difficult.

Just ask yourself the following questions:

  • Will the structure be disassembled or will it be monolithic?
  • Dimensions. How many people is the device intended for? This aspect affects its parameters and the number of skewers that can be used in it at one time.
  • What is the service life of the product? These criteria determine the choice of a particular metal.
  • What will be the appearance of the structure? To do this, you should study a lot of photos and options with different designs. You can choose the style and color that suits you. It is optimal if you find video material on the construction of this particular model.

Dimension Calculation

The parameters of the planned brazier are the key criteria. From them, the convenience of using the unit for its intended purpose is determined.

If it will be used by a family with a standard number of people (3-4), then a model of 60 x 35 cm will do.

For a team with a large number of people, you need to use more large structure.

Photos of standard and non-standard versions are easily found on the web. You may come across such pictures in which the traditional version is supplemented by many components and devices. They expand its functional range and decorate its appearance. It is not difficult to create any metal modification. And the welding process can be carried out on your own.

For example, you can act according to the following drawing:

There are plenty of similar and other drawings on the Internet. You can build your work around them. It is important to solve the dilemma with the number of skewers that are simultaneously on the welded grill.

An equally important aspect is the depth of the device. Its approximate value is 15 cm. In this situation, the necessary clearance for cooking will remain between the product and the coals. The height of the brazier should be as convenient as possible for the cook.

Selection of materials

Self-creation metal construction is possible using different materials. The main thing here is not to make a mistake with the metal. The selected option should guarantee the maximum operational period of the future design. Basically, one rule works here: the smaller the thickness of the metal, the less term unit operation. For this reason, a material with a good density should be used. Never use sheets with a maximum density of 1 mm. They make a rather weak structure.

Another drawing example:

To obtain a high quality material with a long working period, the preparation of such materials and tools is required:

  • metal sheets. Their parameters and thickness are optimal.
  • metal corners. They form the legs for the apparatus.
  • Welding technology for joining metal components.
  • Electric drills.
  • Bulgarians. She must have discs, cutting metals.
  • Set of electrodes.
  • measuring tools: tape measure, level, regular ruler.

Additionally, drawings are being prepared. They can be borrowed from the Internet, you can do it yourself.

The technological process of creating a brazier by welding

Here it is important to decide what kind of design you are planning - stationary or portable. The first can be installed in a certain place and for a long time. The second - can be transported without problems.

Usually the use of welding technology is necessary for the production of a stationary version. Before the workflow itself, be sure to watch the video tutorials and decide how you will decorate the future device.

The algorithm of work here is as follows:

Stage 1. Initially create layouts. Lines are required on metal sheets. A reference point in this process is a pre-made or copied drawing.

Stage 2. From the working material, you need to cut out all the main components of the intended design. Work is proceeding in accordance with the existing markup on the sheets. There should be a bottom. This is the largest component. It is formed by four lateral parts. Two of them are short and the other two are long.

Stage 3. Be sure to make holes in the long side components. They can simply be drilled in one line. They guarantee the penetration of oxygen into the furnace to the coals. And then your apparatus will retain the heat required for a normal workflow. The holes should be spaced about 5.5 cm apart from each other. See that there is at least 2.5 cm left to the edge.

Stage 4. All side components (both long and short) are connected to each other by welding. A rectangular structure without a bottom and a lid should form. Incisions are made on the upper extreme sides of the long walls. In this work, a grinder should be used. This tool must have a special attachment for cutting and processing metal products. At the same time, it is recommended to make cuts on two side parts. They must match perfectly. Combination of incisions will follow. If you do everything correctly, in the future you will have skewers here without any difficulties.

Stage 5. All side components, already welded, must be welded to the bottom of the planned structure. Good welding skills and the ability to work with welding technology. The task is this: all welding joints must be of the highest quality. So you get a box. If you have a material with a thickness of 2-3 mm, it is better to work with inverter welding equipment. To create a box, four seams on each side are enough. If the density of the material is 1.5 - 2 mm, the bottom and walls bend in a certain way. This must not be allowed. Therefore, these components are reinforced with a profile pipe or angle.

Stage 6. Legs are welded to this box. They are easy to prepare for work. Metal corners will help with this task. The legs can be mounted along the corners of the created structure, or at the end of the bottom.

The lower ends are slightly pointed. This guarantees the brazier reliable stability.

The outcome of the work stages carried out is the creation of a high-quality and durable unit

If you have accumulated a lot of metal, but it is represented by small pieces, then you need to cut the correct blanks. Then weld them. In this situation, you need to weld more accurately and efficiently. And the length of the seams is longer.

Example homemade barbecue:

Corner frame

This version of the frame is considered more durable. There is no bending of the metal. The work algorithm is as follows:

1. Corners are taken. Their frame is cooked. Example:

Welding can be carried out from profile pipes:

2. The bottom is attached to this frame.

3. The walls are welded.

advanced version

A metal barbecue, created independently, can always be improved and supplemented with useful components. One of these is the canopy. Example:

The countertop and the frame for placing skewers will not interfere in this design. The top of the brazier can be strengthened profile pipe. You need to weld so that there is room for possible additions.

You can optionally weld a brazier of this format. There are other design variations as well.

Other design variations

barrel based

To create the necessary design, a metal barrel will also fit. With its application, the work is performed quite dynamically and simply. Since the barrels usually have impressive parameters, the barbecues from them are large and massive. They provide cooking for a large group.

If you use such a barrel, then be sure to make a cover for the intended apparatus. During its operation, it must be closed with a lid. This ensures uniform and excellent roasting of the food being prepared.

Balloon based

There are two ways to work here. One by one, a more complex structure is created. The second one is more simple.

In any case, you must first secure the cylinder. He's got a faucet. A water hose is connected. Water flows under gentle pressure. The balloon is filled completely. After that, metal cutting is allowed.

Usually a 50-liter cylinder is used, with an outer diameter of 96 cm. This is the optimal data for creating six large servings of barbecue.

Marking is done along the longitudinal seam. All distances are calculated from it.

A distance of 24 cm is calculated from the seam on both sides. Lines are drawn. The balloon is in a horizontal position. On one line, markings for skewers are created. From the circular seams on the right and left sides, the indent is 3 cm. Then the marks are placed constantly after 8 cm. Total - 6 designations. Holes are drilled in them. The approximate diameter of each is 1 cm.

From the markup line, 10 cm should be set aside. Here is the end of the apparatus cover. Then she unpacks herself. This is the distance between the start line and the last line. Between them, with an indent from the circular seams - 3 cm - lines are indicated.

Then the hinges are immediately welded. We need an assistant here.

Bulgarian cut off the door. Water is pouring out of the bottle.

The lid must not fall back. Therefore, two corners 3-4 cm wide are welded between the loops along the cut line. They should be on the right and left sides of the cover.

The degree of bending of the corners determines the distance of opening the lid.

The bottom rim is removed. A wooden handle is attached to the lid.

To prevent the cover from falling inward, it is necessary to weld metal strip to the cut. Its density: 1-3 mm, width - 3 cm.

According to the designations, holes for skewers are made. Drill is used. On the opposite side, the same holes are also arranged at the same positions.

The cylinder turns upside down. From the seam on both sides there is an indent of 10 cm. From such lines there is another indent of 10-12 cm, lines are drawn. Two stripes formed from the seam in the middle. Their width is 10 cm. Slots for air are made in them at a distance of 5 cm. Instead of slots, you can drill many holes.

The crane is removed. The hole is sealed.

Legs are mounted.

A simpler version is created like this: the balloon is sawn lengthwise into two equal parts. A lot of air holes are drilled along the edges. The legs are attached.

Create portable versions

They are excellent rescuers in nature. You can buy them or make your own.

Their types: prefabricated and folding. The format of the second is a suitcase. Example:

Here are the fasteners door hinges. The legs are thin.

Another version:

Here the legs are folded at the bottom. Other components are stacked in sequence. The side parts are connected by cuts.

Collapsible versions are formed by components that do not have fasteners. Assembly takes place on site. She can be talkative. Maybe - with grooves and cuts. Such products are made without welding. The work is going on with the grinder (she has diamond disc) or a saw for metal.

Creation:

  1. A cardboard layout is made in advance. It fits perfectly to the size of the product.
  2. Patterns are transferred to metal.

More versions:

Here are the legs from the corners. The legs have slightly bent cuts. Under them in the sidewalls there are holes. When assembling, the side parts are strung on cuts.

The bottom has no fixation. The lower side of the sidewalls is bent inward by 4 mm. The sides are attached to the legs. A border is formed around the perimeter. The bottom is laid on it.

Painting issues and outcome

For a metal apparatus, it is better to use heat- and heat-resistant paints.

  • CERTA (Certa). Handles loads up to +900°С,
  • Rust-oleum. Potential - up to +1093°C, Color options: matte, white, gray, black.
  • "KO-8101". Potential - +650°C, 12 color options default.
  • KO-8111 Thermal has anti-corrosion characteristics. Overpowers the impact of +600°C.

How much does a product like this cost? consumables and welding? Of course, cheaper than ready-made barbecues in a private workshop or from a manufacturer.

A full-fledged picnic in nature is usually associated with barbecue and gatherings around the fire. The process of cooking meat on the grill gives the rest with friends solemnity and sincerity of the moment. Usually men are involved in the action, who claim that "shish kebab does not tolerate female hands." We will not dispute their right to cook meat on coals, which came from ancient times, but we will consider how to make a barbecue with our own hands, we will provide photos, drawings and useful videos.

The birth of fragrant pieces of meat in the smoke is a kind of sacrament that can melt the heart of every impregnable beauty, and if you also make a brazier yourself, then the barbecue will become almost a culinary masterpiece.

Success factors for cooking delicious barbecue

The success of charcoal cooking depends on the following factors:

  • Properly marinated meat. You should not look for ultra-modern recipes that involve the use of mayonnaise, sauces and fermented milk products. A classic kebab is vinegar or wine, spices and parsley. And other marinades are only suitable for the softest and most tender pieces of meat. The organic acids found in parsley and vinegar are better for effective meat denaturation. In this case, this process means the breakdown of protein molecules to a state that will be most suitable for digestion by the body. Moreover, the acidic environment does not allow the fire to create carcinogenic compounds in food that are harmful to your health. The pieces of meat that you are going to cook on the grill with your own hands should be cubes with a side size of at least 4-5 cm. Thus, they will not dry out, but will be soft and juicy.
  • Mangal made by hand. The design of the brazier should be sized to fit skewers with sufficient clearances. Usually, the length of the brazier is equated to the length of the skewers, minus 15 cm. The width can be calculated from the conditions that there is at least 80 mm of space per skewer. The distance to the coals should be no more than 100 mm, and the depth of the fire should be up to 250 mm with slots for skewers along its long side.
  • Barbecue walls. The thicker they are, the better. And you should not clean off the soot from their surface, since this is a source of infrared rays, and without them you will only get meat baked on a fire. In order for the barbecue to be not only a tasty, but also a healthy dish, the air hole must be at the bottom, as in the photo presented by our Remontik website.
  • When the air flow passes through the coals from the bottom up, oxygen will burn out in it, and you will avoid the harmful oxidation of food enzymes. In the case of a lateral location of the blowing holes, oxygen will remain in the outgoing stream, which means that the barbecue cannot be considered healthy.
  • Fragrant coals. Browse through the archive of homemade barbecue videos. As a result, you will notice that the widest smiles of those present during the tasting of food cooked on firewood from fruit trees. Firewood from apricot, cherry, pear, apple and other fruit trees give the dish a unique aroma and taste.
  • Making a brazier with your own hands. On the Internet you can find photos and drawings necessary to create a brazier with your own hands different types- from ordinary metal to stone or brick. Below we will consider all designs, moving from the simplest (made of metal) to more complex ones, such as a stone barbecue oven or a barbecue smokehouse.

The advantages of do-it-yourself metal grills

The main advantage of barbecues made of metal is their cheapness. Even if you buy the corners, metal sheet, pipes and rods necessary for the job, the price of the materials will be much less than the finished store product. Well, if you take into account that even metal trash in the form of cylinders, barrels, trimmings of corners and pieces will fit into this design sheet metal, then the cost of the finished product will be close to zero.

Another indisputable advantage is the ease of manufacture. Each person who owns welding can repeat a complex structure. In addition, such barbecues are easy to install in a new place and you can take them with you on a picnic. Sufficient wall thickness allows the barbecue to serve for many years. In addition, you will enjoy the result. Having created a masterpiece from scrap metal with your own hands, you will remember it with pride.

Attention! Braziers with insufficient wall thickness can burn out, they can lead when overheated, and they can rust from moisture and rain.

Do-it-yourself brazier from sheet material

If you are planning to make a barbecue from sheet material, then it will serve you for a long time, if the thickness is sufficient and the metal can withstand high temperatures, do not worry about burning through. Moreover, a product with a metal thickness of 4-5 mm will not lead, which often happens with structures welded from roofing sheets. Usually a device with a wall thickness of 1-2 mm may be needed for going out into the countryside. Its weight will be somewhat less, and the collapsible brazier, the drawings of which you will see below, is easy to transport.

Before you start work, you need to stock up on the necessary amount of metal, 2-4 mm thick, a corner with a shelf width of 40 mm, an angle grinder and a welding machine, an electric drill with drills, a marker, a ruler and a construction square. For the manufacture of legs, it is necessary to prepare a square or a pipe with a cross section of 400 mm 2 or more.

The work on the manufacture of a portable barbecue from sheet material is carried out in the following sequence:

  • The drawing is transferred to a metal sheet and the blanks are cut out with a grinder. Using a material 2 mm thick, a drawing is applied in the form of a sweep, and then the workpiece is bent at a right angle along the line where the side walls adjoin the bottom.
  • Take a sheet of metal.
  • Measure.
  • Cut out the required format.
  • We clean the edges of the sheet for the bottom.
  • We bend the sheet and grab it.
  • The side walls are welded perpendicular to the bottom with a square, after which the seams are carefully welded along the junction line.
  • All gaps are removed.
  • We take a welding machine and perform welding of joints.
  • We clean the seams.
  • With a drill with a diameter of at least 12 mm, holes are drilled for air inflow at the bottom of the side walls or bottom (it differs depending on the drawings used during the manufacture of the brazier with your own hands). If the air flow is carried out through the bottom, then it is important to provide an additional bottom box for the ash.
  • Part of the box is cut out.
  • Then the cover and partition are welded.
  • Drill holes for traction, with a diameter of 13 mm.
  • In long walls it is worth making cuts for skewers. It is good if you alternately cut grooves 6-8 cm and 3-5 cm long. Thus, you can set the desired height of the skewers above the coals.
  • We get a brazier ready for use: fill in the firewood, fill in the water and test.
  • The next stage involves the study of photos of barbecues from the Remontik portal or the creation of an independent frame where a barbecue assembled by oneself will be installed. This frame is made from a metal profile and a corner using a bolted or welded joint. Its design should provide shelves for firewood, dishes and appliances.
  • If you decide to make a brazier with your own hands from metal of insignificant thickness so that you can take it to nature, you can not use the frame drawings, they will not be useful to you. Well, if we weld short pieces at the corners of the bottom metal pipe up to 25 mm in diameter, into which a smaller diameter pipe (up to 20 mm) or pipe sections will be inserted as legs. You need to select their length, starting from your own needs.
  • Rod handles should be welded to the top of the short walls of the brazier for ease of carrying.
  • The roof, which is installed over the barbecue, will protect the hearth from rain and snow. It is not difficult to make it, it is enough to provide for several ceilings and side racks, on which roofing iron is subsequently laid.
  • Do not forget to decorate the work with various forged decorative elements that you can buy in the distribution network. Then the frame and the product are protected with a special metal brush and heat-resistant paint is applied. Upon completion of drying, the manufacture of a metal barbecue with their own hands is considered complete and they begin to fry the barbecue.
During work, you will be able to correct the drawings and make a brazier with your own hands, which best meets the aesthetic and technological requirements.

Make a collapsible metal grill with your own hands

If you are planning to transport an all-metal overall box, then think about creating a collapsible structure after reading our diagrams. Such products are easy to repeat, compact and quite durable. Plus, you can assemble a portable device in a few minutes. We invite you to familiarize yourself with the drawings and detailed diagrams that will allow you to create a brazier with your own hands. Photos of the process and step-by-step instructions will help you to delve into the smallest details.

Scheme of a collapsible brazier

For work, you will need exactly the same tools and materials as for the manufacture of one-piece welded construction. Additionally, you can stock up on reinforced metal shears, fasteners and a set of dies. Ready to start creating a collapsible brazier with your own hands? Our detailed instructions won't let you make a mistake. Decide on the required dimensions of the product, given the size of the trunk of your car. We offer best option which will work in most cases:

  • length - 600 mm (suitable for six servings, and if necessary, you can increase it at the rate of 100 mm per skewer);
  • width - 300 mm;
  • wall height - 150 mm (20 mm distance will go under the grate);
  • the height of the support legs is 600 mm (it’s good if the length of the legs completely matches the width of the brazier, because you are looking for a compact design).

Usually, any do-it-yourself collapsible brazier model, the video on the creation of which you will see below, includes the following elements:

  • frame from a metal corner;
  • side and longitudinal sides;
  • fasteners;
  • grate.

Step-by-step instructions for a collapsible brazier for barbecue

  • To create a frame from the corners, you need to weld a rectangle of the desired size (if you take the dimensions of the barbecue as a basis, you should weld a frame 570 mm long and 230 mm wide with your own hands). At the corners of the structure, 50 mm pieces must be welded water pipe having outer size in 17 mm. In the future, they will be inserted into the support legs.
  • For the legs, four pipes with an internal diameter of 18-20 mm are required. On the side of the pipes that will be pushed into the ground, it makes sense to install plugs.
  • cut out sheet metal side elements and the bottom of the structure, cut grooves in them and drill holes.
  • In strict accordance with the brazier diagram, bolt the bottom to the frame. To do this, you need to drill holes by laying a frame of corners on the base of the structure.
  • As a grate, a grate welded from reinforcement or a bar with a diameter of 8-10 mm can be used. Along the edges of the grate, weld legs 20 mm long from the same material.
  • Fasten the sides on four spokes (rods). To do this, at their ends, you need to cut the thread for the wing nuts and weld the rods to the lower and upper sides of the short walls. If you do not have the opportunity to use welding, you can fasten the spokes with horseshoe bolts. All bolts must be installed from the hearth side to prevent sintering of their threads.
  • To assemble the design of such a brazier with your own hands, you will not need instructions - the process is extremely simple. It is enough to fix the bottom on the legs, then get the peeking ends of the spokes into the slots on the sidewalls and tighten them with special wing nuts. Upon completion of fixing the assembled sidewalls to the base of the brazier and installing the grate inside, the process can be considered completed.

Do-it-yourself barbecue from a gas block or barrel

A propane tank or a metal barrel are excellent objects for making a stationary barbecue. This design has several manufacturing options - both with a hinged lid and without it. If you are planning to build a brazier from a barrel or a cylinder with your own hands, then we recommend that you start working from a drawing. In order to help, our construction portal "Remontik" offers to study a similar design scheme, where you can make the necessary changes.

O essential tool we will not write, because you already know what you need to have on hand. Among the materials you will need the same bars, pipes and corners.

A grinder can help you start creating a brazier from a balloon with your own hands. With it, you can cut the barrel in half length, height or cut the spectrum from its sidewall. In the future, it can act as a brazier cover.

Subsequent work must be performed in the following sequence:

  • The stand is made by bending the pipe in a semicircle, and then welding the legs to it. If you cannot bend the pipe, you need to weld two corners at an angle to each other, and then weld supports to their edges. As a result, two structures should come out, presented in the form of the letter M. All elements are interconnected by a welded bar grate, which as a result will act as a shelf for appliances and firewood.
  • Half of the barrel must be installed on a stand, and then welded.
  • With the help of a metal corner, the cut is ennobled - it carries not only an aesthetic load, but can also give additional amenities while laying the skewers.
  • If the brazier that you plan to use also under the grill, then racks are welded from the sides of the barrel or stand for its installation. For barbecue to inside barrels (cylinder) you need to weld the brackets designed to install the grate.
  • At the bottom of the side walls, you need to drill holes with a diameter of 12-15 mm for air flow. It is better to make them in a checkerboard pattern.
  • It is possible that the barrel will be made on a stand so that its front cut is much lower than the back. In this case, the high back wall will protect the hearth from the wind. In this case, you do not have to ennoble the cut with a corner - it is enough to carefully clean the edges with a grinder. A horizontal grate installed along the front cut line will serve for barbecue, and in order to cook barbecue, you will have to weld a shelf on the back high wall for installing skewers with a width of 5 cm or more.
  • As a rule, the installation of the cover does not cause any difficulties. It is attached to the barrel with several strong loops. The machined edge of the lid makes the whole construction even neater.
  • A barrel with a lid can also be used as a smokehouse. To do this, it is necessary to attach a chimney to its side part. You can design the drum ahead of time so that you can attach a pipe to the tank filler neck.

Decorative elements in the form of flowers, curls and leaves, bought on the construction market or made by hand, will help to make the brazier more beautiful. The roof and antique metal wheels will give a magical look to the structure of the brazier, which will help with its transportation. In other words, you can have unlimited scope for creativity.

Attention! If you decide to make a brazier from a gas cylinder with your own hands, weld several corners on its bottom with a shelf of 50-80 mm. Thus, the coals will be evenly distributed over the surface of the bottom, not gathering in a thick layer in the center.

Finishing of metal products

Upon completion of work, the metal brazier must be cleaned of rust using a metal brush. Put it on a grinder or drill. Welded joints must be cleaned with an emery wheel grinder.

Then the outer surfaces are degreased and painted with special heat-resistant varnishes and paints. Ornament in the form of curls and leaves can be ennobled with cobwebs, giving them the look of ancient products. No need to paint the inside of the products. Also, do not clean the side of the soot that appeared during operation. It is believed to provide positive impact on the quality of the prepared products.

Make a brick brazier with your own hands

Stationary brick barbecue, made with your own hands, compares favorably with its solidity - it has thick walls that keep heat for a long time and allow you to cook a barbecue or a wonderful shish kebab with your own hands without the risk of burning meat. Sometimes the design of barbecue grills is a single whole with a patio and a gazebo, being a whole complex that complements the style. garden plot. Having built this brazier, you can cook not just a barbecue, but also cook shurpa, fish soup, pilaf and smoke fish or poultry.

However, their significant drawback stems from the solidity of brick barbecues - they must occupy a permanent place. You will not be able to move it or hide it in the far corner. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully approach the choice of its location.

Do-it-yourself step-by-step construction of a brick brazier

Like any other building, the brazier needs a foundation. The ideal solution in this regard would be strip foundation with a pit depth of up to 0.6 meters. It is packed with stone or large gravel and poured with a cement-sand mortar. Above the surface of the soil, you need to lay the foundation of rubble stone(up to 0.3 m in height). For such a fireplace, the best option would be a colorful oven brick or a natural stone. Stone masonry is quite complex and requires experience. But be that as it may, you can build a brick brazier with your own hands, the main thing is to do the work without haste and carefully.

Before starting construction, we recommend that you carefully study the design of such a barbecue. Usually, all of them are a firebox with a low chimney. A grate is installed inside it, under which there is an ash pan chamber (several or one), closed by a blower. Under the ash pan, you need to equip a niche for storing firewood.

To build a brick brazier, you will need: 400 pieces of bricks, river sand, clay, several grates, a copper hood for the hood, a corner of 40x40 mm and 30x40 mm, doors or ash drawers.
  • You need to choose a place for the stove - under a gazebo canopy or in an open space. The composition of the solution directly depends on this. For the first option, you will need heat-resistant cement, and for the second, a clay solution is also suitable.
  • Take care of the arrangement of the foundation.

Brazier is a convenient and useful culinary equipment for cooking in the heat. This functional invention allows you to cook different foods using natural heat from coals. Despite the fact that it was originally made as a universal cooking tool, today the brazier is the basis for cooking meat and barbecue. Around it, trips to the country and nature are held, seeing off autumn, meeting the arrival of spring and celebrating summer. And below we will provide drawings of metal barbecues, their photos and videos on the technology of manufacturing barbecues of various designs.

Buying a brazier is an expensive purchase. Simple metal structure sometimes it costs large sums, not being justified by the quality or its appearance. Therefore, it is much better to make a brazier with your own hands, using drawings, high-quality metal, as well as your skills.

Barbecue base

Mangal is handy tool cooking in the heat. It is very different solid construction, but all its features are in the nuances. They allow you to quickly and easily cook kebabs and other dishes, providing a sufficient amount of heat for cooking.

Among the main advantages of the brazier it is worth highlighting the following:

  • suitable sizes;
  • air holes;
  • depth;
  • notches for skewers.

Although some of them are obvious, they are all required for quality cooking. As for the depth of the barbecue, it allows you to gain enough heat and place the meat at a height where it will cook, but not burn. Thus, you can put the required amount of wood.

Air holes - especially important nuance these structures. After all, it is precisely because of them that meat that is cooked on the grill is very different from another way of cooking in nature. Regular air supply allows you to keep the temperature and heat of the coals, making full use of the full potential.

Attention! Another nuance of the barbecue is a pallet. It eliminates the fall of coals through special ventilation holes to the bottom and contributes to the partial regulation of the air.

For further use of the design, sizing is extremely important. After all, cooking takes place on a grill or skewers, so you need to build on its average size. The brazier should be wide, which allows you to place the entire length of the skewer and should give required quantity heat, allow more than eight servings of meat.

And the last nuance is the manufacture of recesses for skewers. They allow you to place the meat in any position, frying it evenly with different parties. This approach plays big role in the preparation of fragrant and juicy shish kebab without burning.

But these points always vary depending on the type of barbecue.

We decide on the type of barbecue: drawings, photos

It should be said right away that there are numerous varieties of such structures. After all, everyone wants to find the best option where to cook meat and other products in the heat. Today, the following types of barbecue are distinguished:

  1. Normal.

The usual brazier has a square design. Although they are heavy, they can be carried. It often has removable legs.

  1. Collapsible.

Lightweight and small collapsible version that you can carry in your car. It is more comfortable and easier, and also suitable for hiking in the forest.

  1. Stationary.

Powerful brazier made of metal. It can be based on brick blocks, providing high reliability. Often, such barbecues can be supplemented with steel decorations.

The choice of the type of brazier is very responsible for its self-build. Thus, you can decide on the tasks and choose the best option. However, it is recommended to choose the regular type as the most versatile choice for summer residents.

Attention! Barbecues can have different shape. Round, rectangular, curved and other types are noted, the cooking on which may differ slightly.

Drawings of metal barbecues: photos of different types

Before you make the appropriate drawings and choose the dimensions for the future brazier, for the construction you need to choose the best option that is used most often. It is necessary to select the appropriate width and height of the structure, and the appropriate length of the legs. A drawing of a conventional barbecue is provided as follows:

Dimensions given in millimeters. It is clearly visible on it that the total height of the brazier with a leg length of 70 cm and a length of 95 cm. In this case, the depth of the brazier will be 25 cm, which protrudes optimal distance from heat to skewers.

The width of the brazier is 28 cm, which is slightly lower than the average size of a skewer. The length is 54 cm, you need to evenly distribute 9 servings over the heat.

The upper part of the structure is equipped with gaps for skewers. So, you can evenly distribute the meat and fix it freely during rotation, ensuring uniform frying. Moreover, the distance between the gaps should be 6 cm. It is necessary to leave space between the extreme walls and gaps so that the meat does not touch them, and also does not burn.

Excellent breathability is an important nuance. Here it is achieved as a result of holes with a diameter of 12-15 mm, located on the side walls. The holes are located at the bottom of the metal sheet in a checkerboard pattern. They are not needed on the front side walls.

Attention! The presented design does not imply the presence of a pallet and holes at the bottom of the brazier. You can easily fix this by welding small corners to the bottom or legs and selecting the appropriate sheet of metal.

How to prepare the elements of the future design?

Metal sheets act as the basis for the barbecue. We do not recommend using other materials, as the brazier provides sufficient structural resistance to compactness and heat. The thickness of the metal should be approximately 2-3 mm. For work you will need:

  • Two sheets of metal measuring 280x250 mm and 240x250 mm.
  • One sheet of metal 540x280 mm.
  • Corners 700 mm long and four metal pipes.
  • Welding machine.
  • Drill.
  • Roulette.
  • Saw for metal or grinder.

Most people prefer another build option. different sheets can be replaced with a large metal sheet. By making cuts, you can connect the structure with a small number of welds. Thus, it will turn out to be more reliable.

It is important to take into account additional elements if the design is different from the above. It can be completed with a tray, carrying handles, leg recesses and other details.

First of all, you need to perform preliminary markup. Places of welding and fasteners are marked, special gaps are created. For this, a saw or grinder is used. This step also creates air holes.

Attention! Often such a design is made on reinforcing legs. They are unreliable, as the structure will stagger even with minor loads. Therefore, it is better to replace them with corners.

How to weld a brazier with your own hands

Welding - best solution for the mangal. It is able to withstand high temperature changes and effective bolting. To do this, use a welding machine, regardless of its type. Then the structure is alternately fixed, and welding is performed at the corners.

Attention! For more convenient welding, it is worth using metal corners along the sides. They can also increase the reliability of the seams, as well as significantly weight the structure.

Then comes the welding of the arms and legs. They are fixed along the sides (corners) or to the bottom of the structure (pipes). It is necessary to weld them securely, since the brazier itself will be quite heavy.

Attention! To fix the legs, you can use not a welding machine, but collapsible elements. Removable legs will significantly reduce the dimensions of the brazier during its storage.

Upon completion of the work, it is necessary to grind the seams, and also check the entire structure for reliability.

Metal barbecues with a canopy: drawings

To cook kebabs in bad weather, you can use a special barbecue design. This allows you to hide the heat and meat from precipitation, but in itself this design is not simple. There are two options here:

  • installation of a canopy directly on the barbecue;
  • installation of an additional canopy, which does not apply to the barbecue.

The latter option will be more rational, as it allows you to hide not only kebabs, but also the person who monitors their preparation. The first option requires additional costs, since the base must withstand the load from the canopy.

In this case, we advise you to mount the structure on metal corners. This is the best option as it makes it easier to assemble. The canvas for the canopy is most often corrugated board. It is refractory, does not react to temperature changes in any way and is characterized by low weight, which is important for a lightweight design.

The assembly of the canopy is not much different from the usual one, and only fire protection and proper placement of the base are required. Thus, you can safely cook food without worrying that you can catch on the armature.

It is worth noting that a metal grill with a canopy is difficult option, which is within the power of experienced welders. It is important here to create robust design, the weight of which will be evenly distributed on the base. For stationary braziers, such a canopy is much easier to make, since a supporting foundation can be arranged for them.

The structure with a canopy can be decorated metal elements as you can see in the photo. This will not only improve the appearance, but also make the canopy more stable and reliable.

Attention! If the roof is low, equip it with a special air duct.

Finished product painting

An important issue in the manufacture of barbecue is painting. It cannot be dispensed with, since the metal used in the structure is subject to rust, and ash and soot do not improve its appearance.

Used for painting special formulations which are subject to the following requirements:

  • heat resistance;
  • resistance to temperature extremes;
  • no harmful fumes.

The following coatings meet these requirements:

  • silicon-organic enamels;
  • heat-resistant paints for various purposes.

It should be noted that painting the barbecue with your own hands is a rather complicated and responsible process. They need special firing, after which they get their properties. Another option is proposed - oxidation. It is quite expensive to execute, but it is possible to make it yourself.

It is better to choose black color for paint. Since there will be a lot of ash and soot nearby, the rest of the coatings will quickly get dirty. On this color, the plaque will be completely invisible.

Attention! Painting should only be done on the outside. Inside, the coating quickly peels off as a result of high heat, and there is no point in this.

Making a brazier with your own hands is quite simple. To do this, you will need a sheet of metal, a welding machine and desire. However, it is worth adhering to the plan and scheme, since in the future any deviations may be reflected in the convenience of its use. But the materials of our site "Remontik", among which drawings will be especially useful metal grills and their photos, as well as videos on manufacturing, will help to cope with this task.

Country rest in the country or by the river under the enchanting smoky aroma of fresh meat or freshly caught fish, roasted on convenient grill, is very popular among the people. Without exaggeration, we can state that even its own original subculture and traditions have developed around this way of spending time.

Of course, all the appetizing charm of a barbecue is impossible without fire and a traditional metal fryer. And while new meetings with friends are only planned, it’s worth learning better how to cook a brazier with your own hands. Otherwise, if you do it wrong, you can spoil the whole holiday of a pleasant feast.

But first, you should understand for yourself a number of clear rules, thanks to which you can ensure high quality work, and the task of cooking the barbecue itself will not seem too difficult.

Do-it-yourself barbecue: some general rules

The huge popularity of barbecue feasts and the long history of this type of culinary art made it not only universal way recreation, but also the object of real creativity. Over the years, a metal barbecue has become much more complicated, in its equipment, initially as simple and functional as possible, many very useful “options” have appeared - all kinds of fireboxes for heating meat and fish, cavities for drying firewood, shelves for spices, etc.

However, all this is just a pleasant addition to the main thing. The main thing in this device is its design, based on generally accepted principles, time-tested. Some of them need to get to know each other better.

When planning to make a brazier with their own hands, the customer will have to decide on the answer to two main questions - how many people the brazier will have to feed and how long the future owner of the metal brazier expects.

The dimensions of the device being made depend on how many participants in the feast will prepare a dish with smoke. Usually, a brazier measuring 60x30 cm is enough for an average family of 3-4 people. The indicated width, which seems to be a universal value for braziers in the most different designs, is determined by the fact that, as a rule, up to about 8 pieces of meat are placed on one skewer.

But its length can be very different. If, for example, it is assumed that rather large groups will regularly gather at the table to taste barbecue, then in this case it will be necessary to calculate the dimensions individually, taking into account the possible load.

In particular, it is necessary to calculate the total number of skewers that will be involved in cooking fried meat, and mark the sheet of metal in such a way that there is a distance of 10 cm between adjacent skewers. In this case, the walls of the brazier should recede from the extreme skewers by at least 5 cm. metal blank one meter long.

As for the depth of the barbecue, experienced craftsmen recommend making it about 150 mm. This value makes it possible to establish the optimal clearance between skewers with meat and hot coals.

To determine the comfortable height of the entire structure, you can take a skewer and bend your arm at the elbow at a right angle. The level of the bent elbow will become the level at which it will be convenient to place a row of skewers. From this it is necessary to build on when calculating the height of the legs.

The second most important factor - the service life - directly depends on the material from which the brazier is made.

The rule here is simple - the thicker the metal, the longer it will last. But in any case, you should not take sheets thinner than 1 mm for processing.

Materials and tools necessary for welding the brazier

To make a high-quality brazier from metal, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • metal sheet (steel, cast iron) of sufficient size;
  • metal corners (for legs);
  • welding machine;
  • a set of electrodes;
  • electric drill;
  • drills of various diameters;
  • grinder with discs for cutting metal;
  • jigsaw;
  • measuring and marking devices (ruler, square, measuring tape).

With their help, you can safely engage in the manufacture of one of the two most popular types of braziers - a traditional brazier or a brazier from a barrel.

Do-it-yourself brazier from a solid metal sheet

A summer device for frying meat or fish can be both stationary and portable (collapsible). But welding is used, as a rule, when it is required to assemble a stationary version. Otherwise, the connection of individual parts of the brazier with each other is carried out by means of special joints or bolts (screws).

Start creating welded brazier necessary from cutting the metal sheet in accordance with the original drawing. As a result, 5 rectangular fragments should come out - the bottom, 2 short and 2 long sidewalls.

Further, be sure to drill several holes in a row in the lower part of the long sidewalls. In the future barbecue, they will provide air flow to hot coals, without which it is impossible to maintain a good heat. It is recommended to drill holes so that there is a distance of about 50 mm between them. In this case, the extreme holes must be marked at a distance of 20 mm from the edge of the sidewall.

The side parts of the non-separable brazier are attached by electric welding.

The next step is to make small incisions on the upper edges of the long sidewalls with a hacksaw or a grinder. They are recommended to be done simultaneously on both parts, attaching the sidewalls to each other. In this way, you can easily achieve complete alignment of the incisions, which in the future will serve as grooves for fixing the skewers during frying products.

After all these preparatory operations, the previously cut elements are welded. All sidewalls - the width and length of the barbecue - are welded to each other and to the bottom. Legs from the corners are welded to the finished box, and this can be done in one of two ways - by welding them along the corners of the box or at the end of the bottom of the barbecue. By the way, it is advisable to pre-cut the lower parts of the legs in such a way that they turn out to be pointed - this way, they will more easily enter the ground, ensuring excellent stability of the entire structure.

There is another option for welding a non-separable brazier, which, nevertheless, will be somewhat more “mobile” in comparison with that described above. In it, instead of corners, they use metal bars. A thread is cut at their ends, and 4 identical nuts are welded to the bottom of the brazier. The legs of the rods are screwed into the nuts. Thanks to this installation, it becomes possible to disconnect the legs from the brazier and transport the barbecue in the trunk of a car.

How to make a brazier with your own hands from a barrel?

The brazier can be made more massive. For example, from metal barrel(of course, in which no substances harmful to human health or fuels and lubricants were previously stored). With this option, the brazier gets a tight-fitting lid, which provides faster and more even roasting of meat or fish.

But before working directly with the barrel, you should make a frame that will serve as the base-saddle for the barbecue of such an unusual shape. It is made from corners welded to each other with a shelf width of at least 45 mm. The size of the rectangular frame should be equal to or slightly smaller than the size of the drum so that the drum can be securely fixed in the frame. 4 legs of equal length are welded to the corners of the frame.

Then a segment of arbitrary size and shape is cut out of the barrel with an electric jigsaw. The future lid of the structure may, for example, be a whole half of the entire barrel, but it can also be cut out from the side of the container. The remaining sections are cleaned with sandpaper.

In order to be able to open the lid, the main part of the barrel and its lid are connected by welding door hinges. A metal handle is also attached to the lid. In addition, skewers holders must be welded inside the barrel. They can serve as all the same corners.

When making a large stationary barbecue from a barrel, you need to pay attention to one important nuance. Available in the tank factory drainer subsequently will play the role of a small pipe for the hood. Therefore, when correct installation frying chamber, it should be in the upper back of the barbecue (lid).

For the convenience of moving the brazier-barrel around the yard or summer cottage small wheels can be welded to its legs, and a special handle can be welded to the frame. On the final stage all finished structure it is recommended to paint with heat-resistant paint.

Thus, to make a high-quality brazier with your own hands, it is enough to have skillful hands, a good tool, a carefully designed scheme and a great desire to make your outdoor recreation pleasant and useful, filled with friendly communication and the aroma of mouth-watering fried delicacies.
