Do-it-yourself barbecue - a variety of designs and manufacturing costs. Do-it-yourself metal brazier Convenient do-it-yourself brazier diagram

It is difficult to imagine a private house without a barbecue. This simple device helps to cook delicious meat and vegetables. However, before you weld the brazier on your own, the owner of the house should take care of the originality and convenience of the design that will stand on his site.

In the manufacture of a metal brazier for barbecue, it is necessary to act according to a well-thought-out plan, which includes the following mandatory items:

  • first of all, a sketch (sketch) of the future barbecue is prepared;
  • after that, the dimensions of the main prefabricated elements are indicated on the finished sketch;
  • then, on the basis of these dimensions, all parts included in the design are made;
  • at the final stage of work, all these elements are welded into one solid product.

For a more accurate understanding of the assembly technology of country barbecues, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with their varieties.

Types of welded barbecues

It is customary to make a special design for frying kebabs in the form of a standard rectangular metal case with dimensions depending on the tastes and requests of its owner.

Hot coals are placed in the lower inner part of the brazier. They provide the heat necessary for high-quality frying of meat. Holes are made for air supply from the sides.

However, according to a number of features related to constructive and decorative features, home-made metal barbecues can differ significantly from both industrial and well-known household samples.

Welding helps to create braziers with retractable tables, shelves, blowing system, grills.

It is customary to distinguish between the following types welded grills, most commonly used for cooking meat outdoors:

  • stationary braziers, made in the form of a massive structure, which is placed on capital foundation("Barbecue with a roof");
  • mobile or portable devices made of thin metal, easily transported in the trunk of a car;
  • mobile barbecues that can easily be moved to any place convenient for a picnic.

Collapsible braziers, convenient both for carrying and for transportation, can be considered as a type of mobile products.

Stationary

Stationary braziers made of metal, due to their solidity and the presence of a number of decorative details, can become an adornment of any suburban economy.

Among other things, they are distinguished by a wide variety of shapes and enviable durability, since they are made from metal sheet blanks of considerable thickness (more than 2 mm).

Portable bolt-on

Portable barbecues attract users not only with their compactness, but also with high mobility. They can be made without welding.

To do this, a blank is cut out of a thin sheet according to a template, and bent in the shape of a box. All parts are bolted.

However, for the manufacture of such devices, rather thin metal blanks are used, which has a significant impact on the resistance of the finished product to deformations, as well as on its durability.

Without using welding, you can make a folding brazier by attaching the walls with loops, and for fixing by providing hooks.

The assembly option for portable devices is usually chosen in case of unwillingness or inability to use welding. Such models are easy to move from place to place, and some of them are equipped with small wheels to facilitate movement.

The simplest option

After choosing a brazier model that suits the owner, first of all, drawings are prepared, in accordance with which the assembly will be carried out.

As one example, consider a sketch of a simple welded structure, consisting of a minimum number of parts. This brazier contains a steel body, made in the form of a conventional box, and four legs (racks) welded to it.

At the bottom of the metal box, coals that give heat are prepared, and skewers are placed with support on the longitudinal walls.

Manufactured according to the simplest circuit designs are small in size and easy to carry to any place not equipped for cooking.

To weld a more solid fixture, the performer needs to stock up on a set of corners with a length corresponding to the size of the future brazier. In addition, you will need to prepare four metal racks and special fasteners used when installing the prefabricated structure.

Please note that when welding a brazier with your own hands, a metal sheet of a certain size with a thickness of about 2 millimeters is used as a starting material.

If you want to extend the service life of a welded structure, you should choose workpieces of greater thickness.

Stationary design

To assemble a capital structure, which in its appearance is more reminiscent of a smokehouse, in addition to welding, you will need a grinder and a drill with a set of drills for metal. After preparing the tool and blanks, the brazier is assembled according to the previously developed drawing.

From the stocked corners, you first need to weld the body of the brazier, at the corners of which four support posts are welded. Then, directly below it, a shelf for firewood and auxiliary tools is attached to the welding.

For the convenience of keeping products from one of the ends, another shelf is welded to the body by means of a welding machine.

The width of the working box of the barbecue or smokehouse is selected taking into account the length of the skewers, which are usually used in the house for cooking barbecue. This size should be 8-10 centimeters less than the length of the skewers or the length of the grill (if cooked on it).

The length of the box is determined by the number of kebabs produced at the same time, depending on the appetite and preferences of the owner of the future brazier.

The length of the legs is chosen for the convenience of working on the brazier (long-term standing in a slope), as well as taking into account their possible subsidence into the ground.

Sometimes this is done on purpose in order to better fix the entire body with a brazier, in which small recesses are made along each of the longitudinal walls to accommodate the skewers.

Unlike a barbecue, which provides for a round brazier, and the meat is placed directly on the grate, the quality of its preparation in the grill depends on the correct choice of the height of the brazier sides.

In a typical barbecue, the depth should be within 13-15 centimeters. With a shallow box, the meat will burn from the proximity of the heat, and if it is too deep, it will take a long time to cook.

Sometimes at the bottom of the brazier, another additional plate with longitudinal perforation is placed, used as a grate. It is believed that this technique provides protection for the metal bottom of the structure from burnout.

Options for capital structures

In the example discussed above, an extension in the form of a metal box with large slots can be welded on one side of the brazier. She plays the role decorative element while improving air circulation.

Sometimes in part decorative purposes, and partly - to protect against blinding sun rays or rain over the entire structure, welding of the ceiling in the form of a canopy is carried out.

For its manufacture, it will be necessary to additionally weld four racks, on which the hinged structure is subsequently fixed.

With the help of welding, you can make a compartment for storing firewood and coals, instead of ordinary legs, weld racks and decorate them with forging elements. There are many options to make a beautiful barbecue. In addition to typical braziers, a number of original solutions are also possible in practice.

From an old gas bottle

The original designs of the brazier for a summer residence can be welded from objects that have already served their time, such as an old unnecessary barrel. It is not recommended to use barrels in which fuel was stored for welding.

In addition, convenient braziers can be made from a gas cylinder that has long fallen into disrepair or has worked out its resource. You will need a grinder for sawing the original workpiece, as well as a drill and a set of metal corners.

In preparing all this tool, it is naturally assumed that the apparatus for welding metal blanks is already available.

Before cutting the used old cylinder, it is preliminarily marked so that only the upper part is cut out. In the process of working with the grinder, it is necessary to ensure that the ends of the original workpiece remain in place.

A lid is subsequently made from the cut off upper part of the balloon product to cover the brazier during the preparation of coals.

Upon completion of the preparatory operations, it will be possible to begin the main work, which is recommended to start with the manufacture of legs. It is most convenient to make them from standard steel corners, subsequently welded to the ends of the original workpiece.

At the final stage of work, stands for skewers are made from previously prepared corners, which are subsequently welded to the inner walls of the brazier. Comfortable handles will need to be welded to the workpiece, which is supposed to be used as a brazier cover from a gas cylinder.

The legs of such homemade barbecue It will be possible to build from metal bars of a suitable diameter.

In the absence of welding, butt fastenings of individual workpieces can be made in the form of threaded connections using bolts of suitable size. This technique allows you to get a structure no less durable than when welding.

And in the case when materials were used for High Quality- the resulting design will serve the owner for many years.

Any out-of-town vacation cannot be imagined without a brazier, with the help of coals in it you can cook fish, sausages and meat, which have a unique taste and aroma. The brazier can be equipped with grill grates, and the device itself can be made stationary or compact collapsible, depending on the operating conditions.

Some amateurs supply this device with a device for installing a cauldron, so before you weld your barbecue, you need to determine the conditions for its use. The dimensions, design and thickness of the sheets of the final product depend on this, and we will tell you how to properly make a brazier.

The choice of the design of the brazier, the thickness of the metal, as well as the size of the sheets depends on the place where the brazier is used. Only taking into account all these parameters, you can properly weld the brazier, which will completely suit you. Collapsible and lightweight construction good for transporting in a car or carrying by hand, but thin sheets, especially at the bottom, will burn through quickly and will need to be changed frequently.

A partially collapsible country barbecue is usually removed for the winter and can be equipped with a removable and light canopy, and thicker metal can be used in the manufacture. In addition, such products are often supplied with grills for frying.

The greatest scope for imagination opens up in the manufacture of stationary braziers, which are welded from thick sheets to avoid rapid burnout, since they are lined with bricks and placed under a permanent canopy. Such products serve not only for frying shish kebab, barbecue or grill, but they are often combined with a cauldron attachment device or combined with a smokehouse.

Thus, braziers are of the following main types:

  1. the brazier is stationary, a brick base, walls are laid out for it, and a large canopy with an exhaust pipe is made, it is made of metal with a thickness of 4 mm or more;
  2. a separate brazier with serving tables, a skewer, a removable grill and a small canopy;
  3. partially collapsible product with removable legs, serving tables and a lid, the design is convenient for storage;
  4. fully collapsible brazier, suitable for transportation and manual transportation, is made of metal no more than 2 mm thick.

It is important to select the thickness of the metal under specific task, since a collapsible design requires a minimum weight, and durability is more important for a stationary product.

The location of the legs and the material should provide maximum stability, so it is better to make them from pipes or corners, and weld patches from a metal plate at the bottom. The removable canopy is made on the lightest possible frame and is covered with a galvanized sheet or corrugated board, the fasteners of which imply simple fixation and easy dismantling of the structure.

Drawing and optimal dimensions of the barbecue

Before work, it is necessary to prepare the material and determine the dimensions of the structure, based on the place of future installation and operating conditions. In order not to be mistaken with the amount of material needed and to carry out accurate cutting of blanks, you need to do detailed drawings with exact dimensions and joints of parts.

Having a diagram and a clear plan of action, you can perfectly and accurately mark the metal and fit the elements of the product. After cutting, it is necessary to check the angles, dimensions and clean the joints from dirt, because with careful preparation Cooking such a brazier will be much faster and easier.

It is necessary to determine the optimal dimensions of the product depending on your needs, but the height of the walls is usually chosen from 17 to 25 cm. If you make the height smaller, the meat will burn, and higher walls will require a large amount of coal. In addition, centimeter semicircular, triangular or slotted cuts are made along the long walls for better fixation of the skewers in a certain position.

The width of the brazier is determined by the length of the factory-made skewers and grills, but usually it is chosen no more than 35–40 cm, and the length is calculated depending on the number of skewers used simultaneously, plus 5 cm from the left and right walls.

The length of the legs should provide a comfortable height of the brazier along with the walls, and correlate with the growth of the owner, as a rule, the height is about 1 m. All these circumstances, on which the procurement and cutting of metal depends, should be reflected in a detailed and accurate drawing, namely:

  • length, width and height of the brazier sheets;
  • height and method of fastening the legs, giving stability to the structure;
  • the location of handles, holes in the walls, stiffeners and removable elements;
  • design of serving tables and other service devices and their fastening;
  • type of canopy and its design features that do not violate the stability of the product;
  • the location of the intermittent or solid seam.

It is important to make skewers, grills and skewers from food-grade stainless material in order to avoid poisoning and to preserve the aesthetic appearance of dishes.

Various designs of braziers

A wide range of different design solutions poses a difficult choice for any person. Before you start making a brazier with your own hands, you need to try to take into account all the circumstances of its use. A portable brazier must be very compact and lightweight, and canvas bags and even cases are used to move it, and assembly takes place using grooves, protrusions and a small number of fasteners of various types. All this makes assembly and disassembly quite fast and convenient. When transported by car, the number of collapsible elements can be reduced, and the structure can be made heavier due to the thickness of the barbecue metal.

Stationary installations are made for permanent year-round use in the form of a one-piece design and are often combined with smokehouses and attachment points for digesters and cauldrons. Such braziers are located under a permanent canopy with walls and are equipped with a place for eating cooked food. Partially collapsible structures are placed under a permanent or temporary canopy and, as a rule, are removed for the winter.

Such braziers consist of the following parts:

  1. a brazier box welded from metal at least 3 mm thick with approximate dimensions of 25X40X90 cm with holes for free air access;
  2. attachment points, height-adjustable legs with nuts for fixing;
  3. the legs themselves are about 70-80 cm long, ensuring a stable position of the brazier and eliminating the risk of the structure tipping over;
  4. removable serving tables with fasteners;
  5. welded carrying handles and a lid in the size of the box;
  6. removable canopy.

It is important to note that the design of the canopy must ensure the stability of the brazier even under gusts of wind, since tipping over can lead to a fire or serious burns.

The connection of collapsible structures implies the presence of grooves into which the fixing protrusions of the counterparts are inserted and fixed with bolts or studs with nuts. In this case, welding work is limited to welding the hinges and attachment points of the legs of the product, and it is necessary to provide for a minimum presence of gaps in the design in order to ensure fire safety.

Necessary tools and procedure for making a brazier

Responsible work on the manufacture of the brazier begins with the marking and cutting of the material according to the drawings, which must be ready. When cutting, it is necessary to take into account the loss of metal and, accordingly, the departure from the dimensions of the final product, so allowances must be taken into account so that the workpieces are exactly the same in size. In addition, you need to prepare a workplace for fixing cut sheets and assembling structural elements. You will also need a certain set of tools and equipment, namely:

  1. welding machine with electrodes or welding wire;
  2. protective mask, leggings and special clothing;
  3. angle grinder (grinder) with a set of cutting and grinding discs;
  4. sandpaper, metal brush and hammer;
  5. drill with a set of drills and an extension cord;
  6. welding magnets with an angle of 90 ° for fixing workpieces;
  7. metal square, ruler and tape measure for marking;
  8. wrenches, fasteners.

It is necessary to work with a serviceable tool and follow the safety regulations for welding, and cut the material with safety glasses.

After cutting, it is necessary to align the joints, clean them of burrs and dirt, and also treat with a solvent to eliminate possible traces of oil. After that, we assemble in the following sequence:

  1. before welding, we drill long sheets with two rows of holes in a checkerboard pattern to allow air to enter the combustion zone;
  2. if the thickness of the metal is less than 4 mm on sheets longer than 50 cm, it is necessary to weld stiffeners from the corner to avoid warping of the metal from temperature fluctuations;
  3. sheets are fixed with special magnets and welded with tack welds;
  4. carrying handles and attachment points for legs, removable tables and a light canopy are welded;
  5. holes are drilled in the attachment points and nuts are welded to fix the removable parts of the structure with the help of bolts, which will ensure the height adjustment of the elements;
  6. the outer side of the product is processed with a grinding wheel, solvent and covered with heat-resistant paint.

Conclusion

We have described an approximate scheme for the correct welding of the brazier with our own hands, and this type of creativity opens up extremely wide horizons for an inventive mind. The brazier is not only a way of preparing delicious food, this product is an embodied reflection of the owner's character, expressed in metal. That is, it is, in some way, a subject of special pride and aesthetic perfection.

Do-it-yourself metal grills are a mandatory attribute of private households. Dimensions, photos of individual product options will help you create a unique design yourself. Useful designs often used for picnics in nature and for recreation. It will help to make a product on your own finished drawing with everyone required dimensions, which is used in the work as a sample.

Durable and beautiful brazier will decorate the whole yard

What are the types of barbecues?

Simplified do-it-yourself metal braziers have the shape of a rectangular body. Dimensions and photos of devices are presented in this review. Coals are placed inside the container, which create the necessary heat. There is a significant number of products that differ from standard models.

There are the following types of barbecues:

  • stationary are massive structures that are placed on a rigid base. Metal devices can become a beautiful and stylish element. Such models are durable and diverse;

  • portable are characterized by compactness. They are lighter and easy to transport by car. Portable products are made of thin metal, which is quickly deformed;

How to make a non-separable brazier model with your own hands from metal: drawings, photos

It is not so difficult to create stationary devices beautiful barbecues from metal. To make a simple brazier in the shape of a rectangle, you need to prepare:

  • fittings and corners of racks;
  • steel plate;
  • drill;
  • grinder with a suitable stone;
  • electric and gas welding.

Before work, you need to prepare a drawing. It marks all the dimensions of the planned structure, the location of the recesses for the skewers and the distance between the perforations.

The height of the side of the brazier is considered a constant value, which varies between 13-15 cm. If the distance is less than the specified value, then the meat will be burned on the fires, and if it is more, it will take a lot.

Other sizes are selected according to individual preferences:

  • the width should correspond to the size of the skewers and be 8-10 cm smaller;
  • the length depends on the amount of kebab that will be fried at the same time. The distance between the skewers should be 7-9 cm. Under the skewers, special recesses are made along the long side;
  • when choosing the size of a barbecue grill made of metal, you need to consider the height of the legs, which depends on individual preferences. For portable devices, they are small. High legs are in welded structures;
  • The thickness of the material depends on the type of construction. For a stationary device, it can be 3 mm or more. And for a portable product, it is better to choose a material with a thickness of about 2 mm.

In some models, a second plate with longitudinal holes in the form of grates is placed on the bottom. This protects the metal at the bottom from burning out.

Step-by-step instructions and features of drawings of metal barbecues with dimensions

Do-it-yourself original barbecue devices are made of metal. To do this, you need dimensions with a roof and detailed photos certain models. The collapsible model includes four legs, perforated walls and a bottom. Before installation, it is worth preparing a steel sheet, a grinder, a drill, fasteners and corners.

The standard assembly of the structure consists of separate stages:

Image Stages of work

Marks of the bottom and walls of the planned structure are made on the metal.

The future shape is cut along the marked lines .

The edges are bent and welded. Perforations are made using a drill.
Chamfers are made in long walls.

The legs are most conveniently made from a corner, pointed down and welded to the box.

The brazier is made from a barrel or a gas cylinder. In addition to the container, you will need a grinder, a drill, metal corners and a welding machine. First, marking is done and the upper region of the barrel is cut out. The end sections remain in place. A lid is made from the top. Legs are made from corners. They are welded to the ends of the barrel.

Supports for skewers are made from the corners. They are welded to the inside of the product. Handles should be welded to the lid.

Helpful advice! Legs can be built from rods. At the same time, threads are cut and nuts are fastened. You can connect the elements with bolts, which allows you to create a stronger structure.

The nuances of manufacturing collapsible options

It is easy to make installations collapsible from metal. Photo shows interesting solutions.

Such a design does not require welding equipment. But you will need drills, a drill, a steel sheet, nuts and corners. As with the non-separable version, a drawing is made and elements are cut out of the steel plate. The prepared frame is bolted to the base. For strong connection it is recommended to use engraver washers.

Legs are mounted on the base of the device. Segments of pipes are put on prepared pipe supports. The boards are connected with bolts. To increase the strength of the structure, it is recommended to strengthen the walls with the help of longitudinal spokes, tightened with nuts. Holes for screws are drilled in the sides.

The legs are made from corners, while holes are drilled on the walls for connection with the legs using bolts. The last stage is the assembly of the structure.

The mobility of the device depends on the component parts of the device. A high-quality model of a brazier with a metal cauldron consists of the following components:

  • the fuel chamber contains two parts. At a certain distance from the bottom, a metal grate is installed, which reduces the intensity of the fire.
  • compartment for dry fuel. good models equipped with a compartment where coals are;
  • wheels in combination with a handle will allow you to make a mobile structure;
  • mounted on some models;
  • used as additional attributes. small table, mechanical spit and place for skewers.

Unusual barbecue ideas

A simple solution is a barbecue using a barrel. The design can be with or without a cover. The barrel is divided into two parts. The top is used as a cover, and the legs are welded to the bottom. Be sure to make holes for ventilation, and small shelves are attached to the edges. On them you can install a grill for frying and skewers.

Braziers with forging elements look great. They are equipped with additional attributes: stands, shelves or wheels. There are various types of braziers designed with your own hands:

  • forged cast iron brazier is original. It is decorated with any figures and patterns;

  • a brazier from a car can be made from the former Vehicle. At the same time, you can get rid of the old body and make an unusual and luxurious hearth for the yard;

  • construction from an old computer case;
Washing machine drum Original brazier

Creation unusual designs depends on imagination and personal preferences.

Corrosion protection features

The metal product must be protected from. Used for coloring special formulations resistant to high temperatures. There are other processing methods. One of these methods is bluing. As a result of processing, a special film is formed on the metal surface, which protects the structure from heat.

The procedure for bluing is as follows:

  • the surface is degreased;
  • individual elements are aged for one and a half hours in a solution of caustic soda, which is taken in 50 g. per liter of water.

Processing takes place at a temperature of 140 degrees. Stainless steel can be used instead of sheet metal. Device from this material is not afraid of weather conditions, picking up and does not corrode. Such structures can last for decades.

An unusual solution for creating a barbecue are gas cylinders with a capacity of 40 liters. They can be called suitable because of the rather thick metal and a certain shape. Before use, they must be burned well to get rid of gas condensate. The wall thickness of a steel product with forging reinforcement should be about 4 mm, and from non-reinforced forging - from 6 mm.

To create quality construction the following rules must be observed:

  • cutting must be done with accuracy, the tolerance can be no more than 0.5 mm;
  • the workpiece must be fastened with clamps to the edge of the table;
  • angle grinder should be bigger. The larger the plane, the more accurate the cut.

Doing work, do not forget about safety. Wear protective clothing, gloves and goggles.

Can be made from a variety of materials. However, creating a brazier with your own hands from metal is rightfully considered the best option. What metal options exist and how to make such a design yourself?

Advantages of metal grills

Why are metal grills so good? A monolithic barbecue oven or its brick version is distinguished by its solidity - in this case, the structure will not need to be removed for the winter, and it looks more reliable, stronger, more durable. In addition, a stone oven can be improved with additional work areas, which will allow not only frying meat, but also baking vegetables, fish, and smoking food. At the same time, the oven will look noble, it will organically fit into the appearance of any site. Is metal worth it?

In most cases, it's definitely worth it. At capital structures It has its advantages, but portability is far from a disadvantage. The metal brazier takes up little space, which is good for modest areas. You can install such a stove even on a cramped terrace or in small gazebo. In addition, even its stationary version can be transported from place to place, albeit with minor inconveniences - and when creating a camping folding version, you can take your barbecue with you to nature, even without having a car.

There are other advantages to creating a metal barbecue with your own hands.

  • The design will be completely fireproof. The materials used are resistant to high temperatures; if the correct drawings were used during the work, indicating the sufficient dimensions of the brazier made of metal, then even an accidental ignition of surrounding objects is unlikely.
  • Small financial costs. While bricks, concrete or natural stone can cost a lot of money - at least through finishing- spending on metal will be scanty.
  • Ease of operation. All that is needed in order to properly make a barbecue from steel is the initial skills of working with a welding machine. In order to optimize the air flow, you will also need to work with a drill.
  • Manufacturing speed. Due to the large number of technological breaks, a brazier built of brick or concrete can be used no less than a month later. The metal structure will be ready for operation immediately upon completion of assembly.

The disadvantage may be the lack of aesthetics of a steel furnace. However appearance any brazier depends only on the designer and the skill of the manufacturer. One has only to look at some projects to be sure - and such a design can be turned into a masterpiece.

Design Options

Before starting work, you must select the type of construction, in accordance with which the drawing of the brazier will be drawn up. The choice is made on the basis of a number of characteristics of the furnace:

  • optimal dimensions;
  • terms of Use;
  • location;
  • operating mode.

There are many designs of braziers made of metal. The most common are such models.

Not a separate type of construction, but a very peculiar option is the manufacture of a brazier from pre-prepared metal containers - read the following articles:

Various steel fixtures can also be used for decoration - for example, the use of forged parts from Zinger sewing machines as a stand is popular.

Making a stationary brazier

It is most convenient to consider the main stages of work using the example of making a simple stationary brazier. There are two of them: drawing up a drawing and designing a furnace. Additionally, you can take into account the decoration (coloring) of the structure and the creation of additional elements. How to make a brazier from metal with your own hands?

Need to prepare:

Design

When creating a home-made brazier made of metal with your own hands, you can choose any size, depending on the characteristics of the operation of the furnace. The main criterion under which the dimensions are selected is the amount of meat fried at a time. Optimal dimensions mangals are like that.

  • Width - 30 cm. This corresponds to the length of a standard skewer, on which 8 pieces of meat are placed.
  • The length can be any. It is selected at the rate of 10 cm per skewer.
  • Depth - 20 cm. This space will be enough for the coals to warm up the meat, but it does not burn.
  • The total height is selected according to the person's height. It is better not to bend your back during cooking. Usually the height is made from 80 to 120 cm.

Having solved the issue with dimensions, you need to determine how to paint the brazier. The paint will protect the metal from corrosion, while it itself must be resistant to weathering and high temperatures. It should not release toxins when heated. Suitable acrylic heat-resistant paint or silicate varnishes.

Brazier construction

The choice of a thickness of 3 mm is due to the fact that more thin metal will burn out quickly, and a thicker one is a waste of money. The work on creating a box is simple - you need to cut out the walls and bottom in accordance with the drawing, cut holes for air in them and carefully weld the elements to each other.

Thus, the work is carried out as follows.

  1. Details are marked on the blanks and cut out by a grinder.
  2. The best place for air ducts - side walls. They are drilled at a distance of 20 mm from the bottom edge in increments of 50 mm. Hole diameter - 10–15 mm.
  3. Grooves for skewers are sawn along the upper edge of the side walls. The first is done at a distance of 5 cm from the end, then every 10 cm.
  4. The walls and bottom are welded together. It is not necessary to make a perfect seam - spot welding is enough; additional slots will only add heat to the coals. That is why it is not necessary to be a professional welder.
  5. Legs are welded to the corners of the brazier.

This completes the main structure. Next, you can weld handles to the ends, make a lid, weld fasteners for skewers and pokers, etc. The brazier made of metal is also painted: before that, you need to remove the old rust and prime the surface.

Hood for barbecue

It is worth considering separately. It is a truncated pipe through which smoke is effectively removed, in normal conditions not allowing you to cook meat in peace. The hood is usually a metal dome that is either welded to the main structure or suspended from above if the stove is located under a roof.

For the manufacture of this device, the same sheets of metal are used, which are welded in the form of a truncated pyramid, on top of which a short pipe is placed. The area of the base of the hood should slightly exceed the area of \u200b\u200bthe barbecue.

The steel hood is easy to clean and easy to manufacture. So that it does not deteriorate over time, it should be painted with heat-resistant paint.

Features of the manufacture of a collapsible structure

The technology for manufacturing collapsible metal barbecue grills has some nuances. Elements of this design are not welded, but fastened with bolts. The principle of operation is the same.

  1. The walls and bottom are marked and cut out. Along the edges (except the top) a few cm are added to the folds.
  2. Air ducts are made in the walls.
  3. Cuts are made along the fold lines, then the sheets are bent.
  4. Holes are made on the edges for fasteners.
  5. Holes are also made for attaching the legs. Another option is to use thin tubes. In this case, bolts are welded to the corners of the structure, to which the legs will be screwed.

A collapsible brazier with your own hands can be made collapsible only partially - weld the walls, and make the bottom on fasteners. This will make it easier to clean the oven from ash.

How to make a camping version of the barbecue?

A folding brazier with your own hands is done as follows.

When creating a folding brazier, it is better to use 2 mm thick steel to reduce the weight of the structure.

Connoisseurs good barbecue know for sure that a lot in its preparation depends on the brazier, the material and design of which affect the roasting, juiciness and taste of meat. For this reason, barbecue fans not only invent their own recipes for this dish, but also try to make frying devices with their own hands. Most of them believe that it is best to make a brazier with your own hands from metal, which is quite good and easy to process, moreover, it is practical and durable.

Types of homemade barbecues and features of their manufacture

Homemade metal barbecues according to user characteristics can be divided into three large groups:

  • requiring welding of parts in the manufacturing process;
  • collapsible, not requiring welding;
  • braziers made from improvised means.

Also, products are distinguished by the composition of the raw materials from which they are created. It can be cast iron, sheet metal, heat-resistant, stainless or galvanized steel.

Metal in the hands of a skilled craftsman can turn into a real masterpiece.

Collapsible brazier without welding

This type of metal barbecue is a way out for those who do not know the basics of welding, but really want to do it themselves. In addition, in this way you can create a portable model of the structure, which at any time can be easily disassembled and transported in an ordinary car in order to fry a barbecue in nature outside the household. For this reason, it is also called camping or folding.

Folding brazier can fit even in a small suitcase

The main secret Such a device consists in the fact that each side is equipped with special grooves that hold all parts of the structure together, but, as an option, heat-resistant bolts can also be used for assembly.

It should be noted that the brazier with grooves is much easier to use, since it does not require additional tools for assembly, but in their manufacture, special accuracy is needed in order to ensure the subsequent ease of assembly of the finished product.

Folding brazier scheme

In most cases, ordinary sheet metal is used to make such a design, but it is worth trying to make a folding stainless steel brazier. This version of the device for frying kebabs, although more expensive due to high price Supplies, but it has an indisputable advantage - it is not afraid of bad weather conditions and can constantly be on the street, does not suffer from repeated collection, does not corrode and therefore will last for decades.

Product assembly

Welded sheet metal construction

To create a solid stationary brazier, it is still better to use a welding machine - this way the product will turn out to be more reliable.

Sheet metal brazier

To make a simple steel brazier, it is enough to cut and weld together five metal rectangles: a bottom, two long side pieces and two short side pieces.

Sample drawing

  1. It is imperative to mark the elements on the metal under the square so that all corners are guaranteed to be straight.
  2. On both long sidewalls, stepping back a little from the edge, drill several holes in a row with a drill to supply air to the burning wood.
  3. After that, weld all the parts together, placing the parts with holes so that they are at the bottom.
  4. The support legs can also be welded or made removable to make the structure easier to store.

Simple and affordable model

This is the easiest way to make a brazier out of metal, having your own welding machine. If you want something more aesthetic and functional, then a few more parts can be welded to the short sides of the structure in the form of small protruding shelves or made of wood. It will be convenient to put dishes for ready-made kebabs or jars of spices, which are always needed at hand, on them.

Shelves on the sides of the brazier are very convenient

Metal brazier from improvised materials

There are situations when there is no time or money for the construction of a full-fledged barbecue. In this case, craftsmen use everything that is at hand on the farm: metal barrels, empty gas cylinders and even old car wheels.

The new role of the empty balloon

Brazier from a gas cylinder

A gas cylinder is most often used to quickly create a barbecue, because good master if you have all the necessary tools, you can turn it into a full-fledged structure for cooking fragrant barbecue in just four hours.

Scheme of a brazier from a gas cylinder

If such an idea caught your attention, then here are a few recommendations on how the balloon can be turned into an original barbecue with your own hands:

  1. First you need to find a suitable empty gas cylinder with a capacity of about 50 liters on the farm. In addition to it, you will also need two door hinges for fastening the cover, metal corner and pipe.
  2. The next step is to prepare all the necessary tools, and this is a grinder, a hammer, a screwdriver, an adjustable wrench, a chisel.
  3. Next, the cylinder should be cut lengthwise into two parts, after making sure that there are no gas residues in it that can flare up from the spark produced by the angle grinder. You also need to cut off or beat off the valve that has become superfluous with a hammer.
  4. The prepared structure must be cleaned of condensate accumulated inside and poured with water for a couple of days to completely clean it.
  5. To make a lid for the barbecue, which will protect the structure from rain and, if necessary, turn it into a smokehouse, you should attach the upper cut-off part of the cylinder to the lower one using door hinges and a drill.
  6. In order to avoid deformation of the product due to high temperatures in the future, it is advisable to strengthen the base by welding a metal corner around the entire perimeter inside the cylinder. It can also act as a support for a grill or skewers. It is best to make cuts along the edges of such an improvised brazier so that you can securely fix the put skewer with meat, and drill several holes in the bottom for burnt coals.
  7. The last detail is the legs. To create them, the usual metal pipe welded to the bottom.

Delicious kebab in an old barrel

By a similar principle, you can make a brazier from metal barrel. There are two options here. The easiest way is to cut the barrel into two parts and get two simple but convenient braziers or build a more complex barbecue model with a lid.

Practical design from a barrel for cooking kebabs

A quick option from half a barrel

The only disadvantage of such designs is that in their original form they do not have a very presentable appearance, but if desired, this disadvantage can be eliminated by decorating a home-made brazier from improvised materials with additional accessories - beautiful handles, coasters, decorative forged elements.

Ideas for inspiration on how to make and decorate a metal brazier can be gleaned from numerous photo collections of products by other craftsmen or even eminent craftsmen.

New life barrels

How to correctly calculate the dimensions of the structure

Before you make a brazier out of metal with your own hands, you need to clearly determine its dimensions, because steel is not a fabric that can be finished in case of an error.

The optimal size of a homemade barbecue

There are no specific strict standards here, but there are a number of recommendations that will make the design as user-friendly as possible:

  1. In order for the brazier to be functional, its length should be calculated based on how many kebabs are planned to be fried at the same time. A proven option in practice is no more than 10 skewers per 1 m. Thus, if the family is small and huge feasts are not planned, then 70 cm in length will be quite enough.

At least 10 cm is allocated for the placement of one skewer

  1. The width depends on the length of the skewer and, as a rule, is 30 cm if it is standard (the holder and the sharp end always protrude beyond the brazier). Even if the used skewers custom sizes, then, when determining the width, it should be remembered that the meat is strung only on the central part, and you should not make the grill wider just to heat the air for nothing.
  2. The depth of the brazier in all cases cannot be less than 15 cm. This will allow you to place coals and firewood on the bottom of the brazier so that they do not touch the meat. Too deep should not be done either, otherwise the heated air rising up for too long will lose temperature.
  3. The height is purely individual and depends on the height of the one who will be cooking barbecue most often. It is quite simple to determine it: for this you need to bend your arm at the elbow, as if holding a skewer, and measure the distance from the ground to the elbow bend. It is at this height that it is most convenient for a person to turn the skewers.
  4. To calculate the height of the structure, take a skewer, bend your arm at the elbow and measure the height at which it will be convenient to turn the skewer.

Comfortable height - up to the elbow bend

As for raw materials, here we can talk about structures made of sheet metal, cast iron, heat-resistant, stainless or galvanized steel.

Cast iron is also an excellent raw material for such purposes, because it is durable, reliable and retains temperature for a long time. But to build a brazier out of it on your own at home is unlikely to work, since products from this material are very heavy and bulky.

A rather controversial material is galvanized steel. A galvanized steel brazier is not the most common design option for frying meat, since experienced craftsmen often disagree about the safety of this type of raw material.

Washing machine drum fryer

As you know, with strong heating, galvanized steel releases toxic substances, which, according to some craftsmen, can enter the human body along with fried meat. Although, most professionals believe that the brazier never warms up to a temperature at which zinc is released from galvanized steel.

Quick brazier from the system unit

Very good in the operation of stainless steel products. They, without fear of rust, can be left outdoors even in wet weather or rain. The service life of products made from this material is calculated in tens of years. Among other things, stainless steel barbecue grills look very modern and stylish, harmoniously fitting even into the most modern landscape design. personal plot.

Stainless steel products look very stylish and modern

Homemade stainless steel version

When choosing raw materials for work, also take into account that the thickness of the metal should be at least 3 mm, and ideally 5 mm. In this case, the product will be slightly heavier, but more durable, and will not overheat during use.

Ultimately, the choice of material still remains with the master, who decides what is more comfortable for him to work with, and what kind of product should be the result.

We make barbecues from metal with our own hands: photos, sizes, drawings

The presence of a stationary hearth on the site or a mobile one at a country picnic dramatically improves the quality of recreation with family or big company. Since do-it-yourself braziers made of metal have different sizes, photo of various modifications in this manual will help you choose the best option for specific operating conditions.

Classification of barbecues with drawings and photos

The main operational features of the hearths for cooking hot dishes on hastily are:

  • occasional use long inactivity;
  • location in the open air or in the gazebo;
  • heat coals on which food is cooked.

The best option for country house is a full brick barbecue oven. However, it takes up a lot of space, weighs more than 700 kg, requires slab foundation and drastically increases the construction budget. The original metal brazier, the photo of which is given above, is not inferior to the quality of the design of a brick barbecue oven. They are classified according to:

  • mobility - portable (folding), mobile (only within the site) and stationary;
  • dimensions - large for large companies and small for families;
  • shape - pipe, barrel, rectangle, architectural modifications;
  • additions - a canopy, a chimney, a compartment for a fire.

It is important for the user to understand that during the burning of firewood, increased metal wear occurs. Therefore, it is better to cook coals in a fire or buy them ready-made, and keep the heat inside the brazier without an open fire. Then the equipment will last longer.

Standard sizes

To weld a brazier with your own hands from metal, you must have the appropriate equipment and the skill to work with it. The home master should take into account the following nuances:

  • a 25 cm long skewer is considered standard so that a serving of 6 medium-sized pieces of meat can be strung on it, therefore optimal width brazier accepted size 30 cm;
  • for a family, a construction length of 70–100 cm is recommended; if the hearth is planned to be used for frequent reception of friends and relatives, this size is increased due to a special compartment for coals; there should be a distance of 8–10 cm between the skewers;
  • the depth of the steel box should provide a distance of 30 cm from the coals to the skewers, in this case the meat does not burn, and the coals do not flare up from drops of fat;
  • the upper side of the barbecue, on which the skewers are laid, should be at a distance of 50 - 70 cm from the ground, taking into account the height of the cook for collapsible types and 80 - 120 cm for stationary modifications.

Look at the options on the drawings:
Click on the picture to enlarge

Attention: In view of the foregoing, the design of barbecues from horizontally located 100 - 200 l barrels should be supplemented with a steel perforated sheet - a hearth. Otherwise, the thickness of the coals will be uneven, the meat in the middle part of the skewers may burn.

What are there?

Before you weld a brazier for a stationary installation, you should familiarize yourself with the original homemade crafts of home craftsmen. Dramatically improves the quality of service hearth chimney. However, more sheet metal is spent on it, when placed inside the gazebo, it will be necessary to make a node for passing through the roof, to break through the roof.

Free-standing metal barbecues are weather-dependent, so they are usually equipped with canopies made of galvanized steel, corrugated board, metal tiles. So that in the case of short rainfall, the meat can be roasted without problems.

On large plots with recreation areas, solid-sized barbecues, ponds and other elements of landscape design, mobile barbecues on wheels are being built. This facilitates table setting, allows you to move the smoky hearth away from the guests' resting place.

For country rest more often, small collapsible or transformable foci are built. They have a small size to fit in the trunk of a car, a simple rectangular shape without decorative frills.

What are they made from?

Taking into account all the above nuances, the design of the brazier can consist of sheet metal blanks, forged elements, or it is partially used finished goods made of steel of suitable shape/dimensions:

  1. metal barrels;
  2. sewing machines;
  3. cut steel pipe large diameter;
  4. forged and cast shelves, countertops;
  5. propane tanks;
  6. washing machine tanks.

In any case, they will have to be finalized in order to link them with the standard dimensions of the hearth and fit into the existing landscape design.

Self-manufacturing of a stationary brazier made of metal

The most popular are two technologies on how to make a brazier out of metal with your own hands of a stationary type:

  1. from a barrel: the design is almost ready, you need to weld the legs, cut the workpiece and add internal elements;
  2. classic rectangular: you will need a sketch or drawing in a graphic editor for marking and cutting blanks, more electrodes and metal are consumed.

By default, a barrel product has a ready-made lid, which allows you to protect the steel structure from snow in winter and rain in summer. For comfort home master Both options will be discussed below.

From the barrel with step by step instructions

Before you build a brazier from a stationary type metal barrel, you need to mark and cut it in the following order:

  • lid: the barrel is either cut in half along with both bottoms, or a hatch ¼ of the circumference is cut out in it, the bottoms remain intact, they must be retreated from them by at least 2 cm to ensure structural rigidity;
  • under: steel rectangular sheet for coals with drilled holes through which the ash will fall down to ensure periodic excavation of the ash, will be attached to the removable;
  • supporting elements: they are made from a corner, skewers will lie on them, therefore, vertical slots are created in one shelf of the corner, the length of these elements is slightly less than the height of the barrel.

The under should be located 20 - 30 cm below the skewers, according to standard sizes metal brazier. For ease of removal / laying in place, bracket handles are welded to the plate.

The supporting elements are welded in a single horizontal level, one near the cut-out hole-hatch, the second at the far wall opposite it. Instead of a corner, you can use a rectangular profile pipe.

To fix a round barrel in space and provide a convenient height for cooking kebabs of a metal barbecue, it is necessary to make a stand. There are several options, the most common of which are:

Then it remains only to weld the hinges to open the lid, clean inner surface from the product that was stored in this container, remove the standard layer of coatings ( paintwork materials) on the outside and paint the case with a special heat-resistant paint that can withstand extreme operating temperatures.

Classic with drawing and video

Step-by-step instruction, how to properly weld a classic type barbecue, is as follows:

A couple of drawings for example:

Well, a couple of photos for example:

Enlarge by clicking on the photo

The metal container must be airtight, so the seams must be continuous. If the barbecue is planned to be moved around the site, one pair of legs is made shorter and equipped with wheels. How to weld it correctly and what sizes to take, see the following video: Well, and more step by step video instruction how well you can do without welding:

For more comfortable operation of the hearth, it is recommended to equip it with a shelf for storing firewood (attached to the legs at half their height), a lid (removable or hinged) and a canopy. Racks for a canopy are usually welded to the legs of the barbecue or to its body.

You can (and should) decorate the hearth with forged elements, overlays in the form of animal figures made of sheet steel. The aesthetic value of such a design depends entirely on the imagination of the home master or the creativity of the designer who developed the project. For example, an interesting idea is using legs from sewing machine:

Modifications from a washing machine tank or a large-diameter vertical pipe are unsuitable for a classic iron barbecue. They can fit a maximum of 3 skewers of standard length, so these foci are used for another cooking technology - barbecue. In principle, any brazier can be supplemented with a stainless steel wire grill and get a barbecue.

Making a portable barbecue

For suburban picnics, a stationary hearth is unsuitable, therefore, a collapsible or transformable metal barbecue is built with your own hands from sheet steel. The main nuances of the mobile hearth are:

  • the height and width of the bottom and side walls, all dimensions of the end walls remain unchanged;
  • the legs are made removable (less often they are hinged), the length depends on the size of the trunk of the car;
  • on the side and end walls, shelves are bent from below, on which the bottom is laid after assembly;
  • the walls are connected by slots oppositely directed relative to each other or are also hinged into the working / transport position.

Read more about the manufacture of this type of barbecue here.

Thus, knowing the dimensions for cooking barbecue, the approximate number of users, you can make a mobile iron brazier. For the construction of a stationary one, additional welding equipment will be required (although you can do without it), but all necessary information is above.

Learning to make a barbecue from metal with your own hands - 5 options

Everyone's favorite summer dish is barbecue. These juicy pieces with a crispy crust and an appetizing “smoke” flavor are prepared by stringing pre-marinated meat on sharp rods - skewers, frying on hot coals laid on the bottom of the grill. The design of the brazier itself is usually a metal box on legs with perforations for air circulation and small recesses on the walls for the convenience of laying skewers.

Do-it-yourself metal brazier

Types of metal barbecues

Based on the dimensions of the barbecue are divided into:

  • - stationary;
  • - portable.

Stationary braziers equip on suburban areas. Often they are made with forging elements, trimmed with stone or installed on a brick base. This adds to the appearance of aesthetics and exclusivity. If the brazier is equipped with a canopy or installed in a gazebo, then it is possible to cook kebabs and other dishes on it in almost any weather.

DIY stationary barbecue

Portable braziers are used in hiking, when going out into the countryside. They differ in small size and weight. Often such barbecues are folded into a metal suitcase.

The simplest portable barbecue model consists of two metal frames on which skewers are placed. The disadvantage of small portable barbecues is the inability to cook a large number of servings of barbecue at the same time.

Portable barbecues

More complex, but also heavier models can be supplemented with a small pull-out table, grates, and adjustable airflow. But such advanced options have an impressive weight, so it is much more comfortable to transport them in a private car than to carry them manually.

Metal barbecues

If we classify the braziers according to the thickness of the metal from which they are made, then the braziers are divided into:

  1. - thin-walled;
  2. - thick-walled.

Portable barbecues are usually made thin-walled. Steel of small thickness makes it possible to lighten the models, but the durability of the structure suffers. In thin-walled barbecues, only ready-made coals purchased in stores or prepared in advance on a fire can be used. If you cook coals directly in the metal box of the structure, the steel will quickly burn out and the brazier will become unusable.

Thick-walled usually make stationary models. For this, steel with a thickness of more than four millimeters is used. Such options are significantly more expensive, but the service life is much longer than that of barbecues with thin walls.

Thick-walled braziers

Barbecue from a barrel

A standard brazier has a rectangular cross section, however, you can make a device for frying barbecue with your own hands from a gas cylinder or an old barrel. But the use of a container for fuels and lubricants is not recommended. The main thing is that the thickness of the metal is sufficient for the possibility of long-term use of the structure.

Barrel cutting line to create a brazier

In addition to the barrel itself, you will need: a welding machine, grinder, drill, metal corners.

1. We make markings and cut off the upper half of the barrel with a grinder, leaving the ends in place. We will subsequently make a cover from the cut off part.

Metal brazier from a barrel

2. We make legs for the barbecue from metal corners. We cut the corners into four identical parts and weld them to the end of the barrel.

We make legs for the barbecue from metal corners

3. We measure the length of the barrel and cut off two corners equal to this length. They will serve as a support for skewers. We make cuts on the corners every 4-6 centimeters (guides for skewers) and weld them onto the inside of the barrel.

4. Metal hinges and two handles must be welded to the lid. This will protect the brazier and coals in case of rain.

Barbecue from a barrel

Do-it-yourself non-separable metal grill

A collapsible brazier consists of: four legs, the same number of rectangular walls with perforation and a bottom.

Before starting work, we carry out a drawing and prepare materials.

Necessary materials:

  1. - steel sheet;
  2. - metal corners or rods with nuts, from which we will make the legs of the brazier;
  3. - welding machine and electrodes;
  4. - drill;
  5. - a grinder with cutting wheels or a hacksaw.

We carry out the drawing

It is more convenient to carry out a drawing of the future barbecue on sheets in a cage. Be sure to indicate the length of the legs, the dimensions of the brazier itself, indicate the distance between the perforations on the walls and the guide chamfers for the skewers. The optimal number of chamfers is 8 pieces. The distance between the holes for ventilation of the bottom should be chosen from 7 to 10 cm, it is better to place them at a height of 5-10 cm from the bottom of the barbecue. The length of the legs is chosen individually.

Drawing of a non-separable barbecue

Work order

  1. On sheet metal, we mark the walls and bottom of the barbecue. We take the thickness of the metal 1.5-2 mm, but it can be thicker, this will increase the service life and ensure optimal heating of coals and food.
  2. By marking, we cut the metal with a grinder or a hacksaw for metal.
  3. We drill perforations on the walls.
  4. With a grinder or a hacksaw, we make cuts on the upper edges of the walls of the barbecue.
  5. By welding we connect the bottom and walls of the brazier.
  6. To make legs, metal corners are sharpened at one end, cutting off part of the metal at an angle. This is necessary so that the brazier enters the ground more easily.
  7. By welding we connect the corners and the metal box.

The resulting metal barbecue photo

Another option for collapsible legs is metal corners with holes for bolts, with which they can be screwed to the brazier box, and after use, unscrew and fold. But for this you have to wait for the metal to cool after cooking.

If the legs are long enough, it is advisable to connect them in pairs with metal jumpers to strengthen the structure.

Do-it-yourself collapsible metal grill

To make a fully collapsible metal brazier, a welding machine is not needed. But a drill, drills, a hacksaw or a grinder with cutting discs, bolts and nuts, a steel sheet 1.5-2 mm thick, metal corners for legs, and a tape measure will come in handy.

The first two points of work are the same as when performing a non-separable brazier - drawing and cutting out the details of the brazier from a steel sheet. But when performing a collapsible barbecue, you should add 3-4 centimeters to the joints.

Collapsible metal brazier - scheme

On the side and end walls of the brazier, we make small cuts and bend the sheets so that it becomes possible to join the corners and lay the bottom.

For a strong connection of parts during cooking, we drill holes for screws in the side edges.

We make the legs from pointed corners in a similar way, drilling holes in the walls to connect the walls of the barbecue and the legs with bolts.

Holes for mounting bolts

The last point is the assembly of the finished structure.

Folding metal brazier

The design of a folding metal brazier is similar to the design of a non-separable brazier. The section is rectangular. The difference is that the walls of the brazier are not welded to each other, but are connected by movable furniture skirts, which allows you to fold the brazier after use. In order to prevent the walls from folding by themselves, we attach metal hooks to the upper part of the walls by welding.

This type of grill is very convenient for transportation.

Corrosion protection

It is desirable to protect any metal structure from corrosion, then it will last longer, and the appearance will be much more attractive.

Only special heat-resistant paints can be used to paint the brazier. They are sold in car dealerships in the form of an aerosol (such paints are applied to a car muffler).

Instead of painting, you can change the structure of the metal. Oxidation or bluing is a process in which a black heat-resistant film is formed on the surface of the metal. For bluing, the surface of metal parts is pre-cleaned and degreased, then the metal is kept at a temperature of 140 degrees in a solution of caustic soda (50 grams per liter of water) for one and a half to two hours.

How to make a collapsible brazier from metal with your own hands, drawings and photos

For most people, outdoor recreation is associated with cooking kebabs, well-fried on the grill. This device is sold in various stores. However, the price of many of them is quite high, so the question arises: how to make correct brazier with your own hands?

Metal is well suited for creating a variety of functional structures. Before you start creating a collapsible metal brazier, you should explore other options. Do-it-yourself cast iron braziers look very stylish. These are very heavy structures with an installed grate system that distributes the outside air evenly.

The main advantages of cast iron brazier are durability and reliability of the design. This material, even after serving for several decades, will not burn out or warp. And if it is also decorated with forged elements, then a cast iron product will be an adornment of any suburban area. The main disadvantage of this design is that it can be disassembled, put into a car and transported to country cottage area, hard enough.

A reliable and durable design is a stationary metal brazier. It provides a place for clean skewers, meat and water for extinguishing coals.

Ready-made drawings of a brazier made of metal with a smoke inlet that partially covers the coals and a galvanized sheet pipe that provides the necessary traction and eliminates excess smoke are well suited for country houses. For such a structure, a roof is often constructed to protect the structure from various precipitations. The disadvantage of this design is the same as that of the cast-iron structure - the lack of mobility.

The best design option is a metal barbecue drawing with removable legs. It easily fits in the trunk of a car. The advantage of such a collapsible do-it-yourself brazier is the ability to use it anywhere, easily disassembling it and putting it in a bag.

Dimensions of a metal brazier

The dimensions of the structure are determined individually, but still it is worth considering the proven options. When choosing sizes, the functionality of the brazier and ease of use are taken into account. The length is calculated taking into account the expected load, taking into account the distance between the skewers. The best length for 10 skewers is one meter.

The width of the structure is taken from the finished drawings. Considering that one skewer holds 8 pieces of meat, therefore, the width will be 30 cm. If these parameters are slightly larger, then the brazier will begin to “warm up the air”.

Optimal depth should be 150 mm. It allows the coals to fit without touching the meat. To calculate the height of the brazier, take a skewer, bend your arm at the elbow and measure the height at which it will be convenient to turn the skewer.

Used tools and materials

  • Sheet steel 1.5 mm thick.
  • Special corners for legs.
  • Rods or tubes.

With the help of these building materials, a very simple design of a box with legs is created. If the structure is more complex, then additional Construction Materials. If the welding machine will not be used, bolts are bought: for the legs - 4 pieces, on the sides - 2 pieces each.

Basically, welding is used to create a metal structure, so the following tools will be required:

  • Apparatus for welding.
  • electrodes for it.
  • Bulgarian.
  • Drill.
  • Drills with a diameter of 2 cm.
  • Cutting wheel steel.

You can not use welding, then locksmith tools, a grinder and a drill are used instead.

In order for the brazier to have an attractive appearance for as long as possible, they acquire a special automotive spray paint for painting exhaust pipes.

How to make a brazier from metal

Before you make a brazier out of metal with your own hands, choose a manufacturing method in advance. If welding is used, then a drawing is taken and sheet metal is marked on it. Bulgarian cut out 5 rectangles: the bottom and sides (long and short). If welding is not used, 3-4 cm are added on each side of the parts.

Then, holes are made on the long sidewalls for air to enter. The first hole is usually 2 cm from the long edge. To make a brazier, place the necessary holes on the sidewalls in the lower part. After that, the legs are welded from the outside along the corners or directly to the bottom at the end. It is very important that all parts are fastened firmly enough, and the legs are of the same length. It remains only to paint the finished brazier with your own hands.

To make the correct brazier without welding, the excess on the parts of 3-4 cm is bent from the side of the joint and connected to the second side. After that, 3 holes are drilled in the middle and along the edges of the corners through the joint, and screwed to the surface with bolts. From below, 4 cuts are made along the ribs and carefully bent at an angle of 90 degrees inward, creating a place of support for the bottom.

After the brazier box has been made, the legs are attached to it, using 2 bolts on each side of the parts. At the end of the work, the resulting structure is painted, and after it dries, it is used for its intended purpose.

How to operate the grill

For long-term operation of such a design, one should adhere to the rules fire safety. From blazing fire to certain wooden parts structures (for example, if there is a wooden attachment for the transport handle), the distance should be at least 20 cm. These elements are also treated with antiseptics.

To give dishes a burning wood flavor, the following specific meat trees are used for kindling:

Under no circumstances should plywood, chipboard or any coniferous trees which release resin when burned.

Instead of wood for kindling, you can buy ready-made charcoal briquettes in stores. They give a very good heat, and there is no aroma. You can use loose coal, but it does not burn well.

Before cooking, the grate must be greased, otherwise food will stick to it. Do-it-yourself brazier should be installed in a place where there are no branches, dry grass, or debris. Well, if there is a bucket of sand nearby.

Thus, a collapsible brazier made of metal with your own hands, with proper operation, will serve for a very long time, delighting you with deliciously cooked barbecue.
