Sheriff APS-35 Alarm User Reviews

Most users of the Sherif APS-35 car alarm leave positive reviews. And this is not surprising. With such characteristics and properties, the price of this model is very low. Whoever understands this does not expect from his security system models Sherif APS-35 impossible.

After analyzing all the reviews, you can identify the most common shortcomings:

  • Weak signal between machine and main unit. Some write that sometimes the key fob only works near the car itself.
  • Insensitive shock sensor.

To avoid problems during the operation of any alarm, it is better to turn to professionals for this service. They will install qualitatively and quickly all the components of the system in the car. But if you have certain knowledge and experience, then you can cope with such a task yourself. The Sheriff APS-35 alarm system comes with complete instructions which contains all the nuances and recommendations.

For quality installation car alarm Sherif APS-35, it is important to correctly place all the elements:

  • The main unit is attached behind the front control panel with two screws. To prevent damage to the body of the car alarm unit, do not install it in the engine compartment. To exclude radio frequency interference in the operation of the security system of the machine, the main unit should not be fixed to the electronic components.
  • The siren is installed in the engine compartment, but in such a way as to exclude access to it from the outside. The bell should look towards the street, this will provide maximum sound, and the siren itself should look down, so it will be protected from the accumulation of water.
  • The hood limit switch is installed in a place protected from water on metal surface so that it can be connected to the mass of the car.
  • The indicator light is mounted on the front panel in such a way that it can be clearly seen both from the driver's seat and from the outside. This setting is explained by the purpose of this element. After all, it is intended not only to signal the state of protection, but also to warn the criminal about its presence.
  • The Valet push button switch is installed in a place convenient for the driver. This place should not be too visible in order to make it difficult for the hijackers to do their job. Most often, the button is installed in the dashboard on the driver's side.
  • The shock sensor is installed on the partition between the passenger compartment and the engine compartment. The surface must be level and firm.

Wire connection is the most complex process when installing a car alarm. It is here that it is important to follow all the recommendations of the manufacturer. The instructions for the Sheriff APS-35 alarm, which is included in the package, contain detailed diagrams to connect each of the elements of the security system of the car.

After reading the Sheriff APS-35a alarm review, we can safely conclude that the Sherif ASP-35 car alarm fully complies with the characteristics specified in the manufacturer's instructions. And she will become ideal option for budget cars.

Transmitters with technology to protect digital codes from interception (KeeLoq)

The key fobs included with this alarm system use the most advanced and reliable form of radio frequency transmission available in the world. this moment automotive security systems. Some of today's sophisticated car thieves use devices known as code grabbers, which allow the signal transmitted by the car's security remote control to be received and stored in memory. After the driver leaves, the hijacker uses this code to disarm the system.

Unlike the remote control devices described above, the keyfob transmitters included with your security system change the signal code of the transmitted signal each time the button is pressed, so when the hijacker plays the intercepted signal of your keyfob transmitter, the security system simply will not respond to it. If the button on your key fob transmitter was pressed more than 30 times when it was out of control of the security system (for example, if children were playing with it), the system will not respond to the call of the key fob transmitter when you decide to use it again. You need to synchronize your key fob transmitter with the security system receiver. To do this, simply press the system arming/disarming button on the key fob transmitter twice within one second. After that, the system will again respond to all remote control commands.

This system has an additional channel 2, which allows you to control various additional devices connected to the system. Basically, this channel can be used for

  • remote opening of the trunk of the car,
  • remote start of the car engine, etc.

To send a control signal to an additional device via channel 2, press the small button 2 on the key fob transmitter and hold it down for 1.5 seconds.

  1. Channel output CH2 connects to the "mass" during the entire time of holding button 2 on the key fob transmitter.
  2. Channel output CH2 connects to ground for 1 second.
  3. Channel output CH2 connects to ground for the time until the next moment of channel control and only when the ignition is on. Turning off the ignition does not turn off the channel. Channel off CH2 is carried out by pressing and holding button 2 for more than 1.5 seconds in any ignition state.

Note For pp. 1,2: If the channel 2 output was activated while the system was armed, the system will simultaneously disable the shock sensor and the hood/trunk trigger for a while so that opening the trunk does not trigger the system. After the trunk is closed, the system will automatically arm this circuit and turn on the shock sensor.

For item 3: when the channel is activated, the system disables only shock sensors.

REMOTE CONTROL OF AUXILIARY DEVICES (channel 3)

Additional programmable channel 3 (line of additional blocking "ARM" - black wire with a white stripe) allows you to control additional devices connected to the system. This channel is programmed as

  • Additional blocking output (complimentary to the main blocking output).
  • Pulse output of negative polarity for 30 seconds when the system is armed (use option - as a power window control output).
  • Pulse output of negative polarity for 20 seconds when the system is disarmed (option of use - polite backlight control output). Turning the ignition on will cancel the pulse at any time.
  • Independent channel control external device type Pager.

REMOTE SIREN CONTROL

In some cases of using the security system, it is required to turn off the siren, for example, to maintain silence at night. The APS-2500 SHERIFF system allows you to remotely turn off, as well as remotely turn on the siren at the request of the user. The siren can only be controlled in armed mode. Turning the siren off or on is done by pressing both buttons of the key fob-transmitter twice simultaneously within one second. Disarming the system and then arming will automatically restore the siren to normal operation. When the system is armed, the siren can be turned off or on any number of times.

AV SYSTEM FUNCTION (F12) -
two-step disarming function

F12 enabled - when the security mode is disarmed using a keyfob transmitter, the system unlocks the door locks, disables shock sensors and security perimeter input triggers. All chains locks remain active and can only be turned off by pressing the button again Valet or by entering secret code.

ATTENTION When a new transmitter code is written to the system memory, all previously programmed transmitter codes are erased, so all transmitter codes must be reprogrammed in one cycle.

ATTENTION Since the transmitters use a constantly changing (dynamic) code, in some situations (for example, when the key fob buttons are pressed more than 30 times outside the system coverage area), the key fobs and the system may become out of sync. In this case, approach the car and press the transmitter button twice within 1 second. Synchronization will be restored and the key fob will be able to control the system again.

PROGRAMMING TRANSMITTERS

Transmitter programming (F9 - Valet state)

ATTENTION Remember that each operation must be completed within 5 seconds of the previous operation. If the 5 second interval is exceeded, the system will automatically exit programming mode, which will be confirmed by one short and one long siren beep. If the ignition was turned off during programming, the system will immediately exit the programming mode, confirming this with one short and one long signal from the siren.

  1. Disarm the system, get into the car and turn on the ignition.
  2. Push button switch Valet 3 times. You will hear 1 siren tone to confirm that the system is ready to program new transmitters.
  3. Press and hold button 1 of the first transmitter until you hear a long siren tone confirming that the programming of the first transmitter has been completed (the transmitter channels will be programmed automatically). In this case, the LED will begin to blink slowly.
  4. Press and hold button 1 on the second transmitter until you hear a long siren tone confirming that the programming of the second transmitter has been completed.
  5. Repeat step 4 for other transmitters.
  6. To exit transmitter programming mode

    2. wait 8 seconds without doing anything.

You will hear one short and one long siren tone to confirm you have exited transmitter programming mode, and the system LED will turn off.

Transmitter programming (F9 - Secret code state).
  1. Disarm the system using the key fob and enter the secret code or immediately enter it with the button Valet secret code
    1. Turn on, turn off, then turn on the ignition.
    2. With switch Valet enter the first digit of the code.
    3. Turn off and then turn on the ignition.
    4. With switch Valet enter the second digit of the code.
    5. Turn off and then turn on the ignition. The system should confirm with a beep that the correct code has been entered.
  2. Push button switch Valet 3 times. You will hear one long siren chirp.
  3. Press the first button of the first key fob transmitter. The system will confirm the entry of a new key fob code into the memory with a sound signal.
  4. Press the first button of the second key fob transmitter. The system will confirm the entry of a new key fob code into the memory with a sound signal.

ATTENTION Remember that each operation of writing the codes of new key fobs deletes the codes of old key fobs from memory and must be performed for all key fobs at a time. The system maintains up to 4 keyfob codes in memory, regardless of whether the codes of four different keyfobs or the same code are written to the system four times.

SYSTEM LED OPERATING MODES
(installed in the dashboard of the car)

SHORT CONFIRMATION BEEPS BY THE SYSTEM SIREN

MODES OF OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE SIDE LIGHTS

Note If the alarm was triggered in your absence, then when the system is disarmed, four short beeps will sound and the parking lights or direction indicators will flash four times, and the LED indicator will flash according to the code that corresponds to the zone that was triggered in your absence.

Before starting the car's engine, watch the LED on the car's dashboard flash. The number of flashes of the LED indicator indicates the zone protected by the system that triggered the system in your absence. More detailed information Refer to the Vehicle Burglar Warning Signals section of this manual.

Attempting to disarm the system after the system has been triggered (siren sounded) will only silence the alarm. The system will not be disarmed. To disarm the system, press the arm/disarm button on the keyfob transmitter when the system does not beep.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT

A small red LED is installed in the transmitter housing, which confirms the pressing of the transmitter buttons, and also shows the battery status. As the battery discharges, you may notice a decrease in the range of the transmitter.

To replace the battery

  1. open the cover by unscrewing the small screw reverse side transmitter housing,
  2. remove the dead battery, remember the polarity of its installation and dispose of it properly,
  3. install a new battery (type GP27A), make sure the polarity is correct,
  4. carefully install the cover without damaging the LED or switches on the circuit board.

SYSTEM INSTALLATION

INSTALLING THE MAIN COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM

Main unit (control module)

Choose a place in the passenger compartment to install the main unit of the system (for dashboard vehicle) and secure the unit with two screws. The main unit of the system can be fixed with cable ties.

Never install the main unit of the system in the engine compartment of a car, because the housing of this module is not sealed. You should avoid installing this unit directly on the regular electronic components of the car. Vehicle electronic components can generate radio frequency interference, which in turn may shorten the operating distance of the system's transmitter or cause system interruptions.

Owners of inexpensive old cars tend not to consider purchasing expensive modern alarms with feedback or GSM module: most of their functions (integration with CAN bus, autorun, and so on) do not make sense on old carbureted cars, and it makes no sense to pay extra for them.

Therefore, a certain popularity in the market retain simple systems with one-way communication, providing basic signaling functions: shock control, door opening, remote control central lock.

The Sheriff APS 2400 alarm system practically does not stand out among classmates - cheap alarm systems with one-way communication.

ATTENTION! Found a completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption! Don't believe? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also did not believe until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

The only one important nuance its design is that the shock sensor is built directly into the central unit, which imposes certain restrictions on the alarm installation process: the unit must be fixed rigidly to metal parts body, or at least to fairly massive plastic elements.

The alarm is controlled using two key fobs with three buttons for disarming, arming and controlling a programmable additional channel (opening the trunk or another function, depending on the connection method).

The Sheriff APS 2400 alarm system is supplied with the following configuration:

  1. Central alarm unit with integrated shock sensor.
  2. 2 key fobs.
  3. Single tone non-autonomous siren.
  4. Ignition / starter interlock relay.
  5. Wire kit.
  6. Security status LED indicator.
  7. Valet service button.
  8. Hood limit switch.
  9. User manual, wiring diagram, warranty card.

List of APS 2400 features

The APS 2400 alarm system has only a basic set of the most requested functions:

  • control of the opening of doors, hood, trunk (hood and trunk are controlled by one input;
  • warning and alarm depending on the force of impact on the car;
  • alarm and blocking when the ignition is turned on in armed mode;
  • connection ultrasonic sensor volume or additional sensor impact (not included, purchased separately);
  • remote lock and unlock door locks using a regular central lock or with the installation of additional electric drives;
  • remote trunk opening with shock sensor off;
  • connection additional devices to the programmable channel.

Since the APS 2400 uses low power transmitters and does not have an external antenna module, the reception range that the alarm has is very small by modern standards. The one-way Keeloq protocol used for communication has long been outdated and cannot be considered reliable protection against the use of code grabbers.

Therefore, it is most reasonable to combine the installation of an alarm with additional mechanical anti-theft devices: their deactivation will take much more time than cracking the primitive encryption of radio messages.

The operating and connection manual contains the following diagram:

The central signaling unit must be rigidly fixed to the engine shield behind the dashboard or any other rigid plane in order to ensure normal conditions for the built-in shock sensor to work.

It must be remembered that with an asymmetric location of the shock sensor relative to the longitudinal axis of the car, it will more clearly respond to shocks from its side, and you need to adjust it by checking the reaction to shocks from both sides.

The alarm system has a built-in dual relay for controlling the car's lighting equipment to display an alarm and search for a car in the dark. The following connection schemes are possible:

  • Power control dimensions: shown in the diagram. In this case, either separate control of the outputs of the right and left sides is selected (if they are also separated in the vehicle's standard electrical wiring), or common (only one of the two white wires is used).
  • The power control of the turn signals is performed in the same way as the separate switching on of the parking lights. Alarm outputs are connected in parallel with the steering column switch or in any other convenient location power wiring for direction indicators.
  • Duplication of the alarm button is possible if the alarm is activated in the fixed position of the button by a constant level signal. If the button switches several circuits (for example, by connecting the turn signals to the relay, bypassing the steering column switch), this method cannot be used.

Depending on the settings, the standard central lock can be controlled by short-term, long-term or double pulses (required for a number of cars with a pneumatic central locking drive).

If the car has a door lock / unlock button, normally open contacts of the central locking relays built into the block (white + orange wires, blue-white + yellow) are connected in parallel to its contacts.

If the button is missing, a circuit similar to the switch in the driver's door lock is assembled, decoupled from it by diodes, or the switch is completely disabled (in this case, turning the key will not control the rest of the doors).

On cars without a central lock, standard electromechanical drives with a force of 5 kgf are installed in the doors. They are connected to the common contacts of the unlocking and locking relays (white and yellow wire a), normally open contacts are connected to a constant plus, normally closed - to ground. Each actuator is configured individually before the door trim is in place.

To implement the ignition or starter blocking, an external relay with normally open contacts is used. When the ignition circuit is broken, you need a yellow wire from central block(ignition input) connect before blocking, since the relay contacts close at the moment a positive signal appears on this wire, provided that the alarm is disarmed.

It is advisable to block as few consumers as possible with the help of a relay in order to reduce the erosion of its contacts at the moment of closing or opening - failure of the relay will make it impossible to start the engine.

The alarm has two low-current programmable outputs with negative polarity in active state:

  • Additional channel 2 (dark blue wire) is controlled from the ch2 button on the key fobs. Its main purpose is to activate the trunk opening solenoid, in this case the channel is configured for short-term activation. If a channel is programmed to be active for as long as the button is held down, it can be used to control an external autostart circuit. A trigger mode is also available, when each subsequent press changes the channel state to the opposite.
  • Additional channel 3 (black and white wire) can be used for additional blocking, control of glass closers, “polite lighting” when disarming or turning on a pager on alarm.

The built-in shock sensor is configured using the key fob buttons:

  1. After disarming the car and turning on the ignition, press the Valet button 4 times to set the warning level or 5 times to set the alarm level.
  2. Within 5 seconds, turn the ignition off and on again, the number short beeps siren will match the current setting.
  3. Using buttons 2 and 3, you can increase or decrease the sensitivity by controlling the impact force required to trigger the selected warning level.

To exit the programming mode and save the setting, turn off the ignition.

Sheriff is a car alarm manufactured by the American company PIT (Progressive Innovative Technology). The lineup anti-theft devices wide enough. Modern market offers a variety of kits that differ in price and functional set.

Possible problems and solutions

What difficulties users may encounter during operation:

  1. The anti-theft device does not pick up the remote control signal well. Sometimes the car owner has to press the key fob button several times to enable or disable protection. Such a problem may be associated with the installation of an antenna adapter near the metal parts of the body. If you made such a mistake during installation, then you need to correct it and reinstall the transceiver in another place. If the problem is related to the discharge of the battery in the remote control, then the power supply must be replaced.
  2. Signaling for no reason. This problem is usually caused by an incorrectly configured sensor sensitivity. It is necessary to adjust the controller in accordance with the recommendations given by the manufacturer in the service manual.
  3. When activated guard mode the car doors do not close, although the siren sounds and the indicator shows that the protection is on. Such a problem may be due to damage to the wiring or oxidation of the contacts on the central unit connector. To identify damaged area electrical circuit wiring will have to ring. If all circuits are intact, then check the condition of the contacts on the control module connector. Damaged components must be replaced. When the problem is related to oxidation, then the contacts just need to be cleaned.

As practice shows, malfunctions in the operation of the anti-theft system are usually associated with errors made during operation.
