How to decorate a large simple mirror. How interesting it is to decorate a mirror in the bathroom: decor options for every taste. Requirements for framing mirrors for different rooms

Every day countless times we meet the eyes of our reflections in the mirrors. We get used to mirrors as a given and forget that they can also be a non-trivial and noteworthy element of decor.

How to decorate a mirror with your own hands

It is not necessary to look for a designer to decorate a mirror: many ideas are easy to implement on your own. It will only take imagination, improvised materials, accuracy and a lot, a lot of glue.

For starters, you can try to decorate the mirror surface itself. Acrylic paints will be the best assistant in this matter: they fit perfectly on the surface, dry quickly, and are also quite environmentally friendly. They do not fade over time, keeping the brightness of the color for a long time.

Acrylic paints will hold up well even on a bathroom mirror, despite high humidity in the room. In addition to the main colors, there are also glitter paints that can be applied on top of the usual ones, giving the patterns a festive mood.

In addition to acrylic, stained glass paints are suitable. When dried, they become transparent and create the effect of colored glass, which is especially pleasing to the eye in a well-lit room.

Before applying the drawing, you need to outline the contours of future images with thin lines so that the paint does not spread beyond them.

If you are not confident in your artistic abilities, it is better not to paint the surface yourself, but to purchase decorative stickers. When applying them to the surface, carefully smooth the image so that it does not bubble.

You should not place images in the center of the mirror if you still plan to use it for its intended purpose. It is better to place them near the edge: in this way you revive the familiar look and avoid excesses.

Before starting any work, do not forget to thoroughly rinse the mirror surface. detergent and degrease it with alcohol. Dust constantly settles on the surface, and because of it, drawings and stickers may not be applied well.

If the mirror has an inconspicuous frame, you can decorate it by focusing on the frame. All sorts of little things are suitable for this: buttons, sequins, beads, small shells, rhinestones, plant seeds.

Shells are perfect for decorating a mirror in the bathroom. It is no coincidence that designers prefer exactly maritime theme when creating bathroom decor items: everything here reminds of the sound of waves and sandy beach. Shells after application can be painted all the same acrylic paint, to new frame matched with the color scheme of the interior.

If you choose beads for decoration, then it is better to take a few different types. For example, glass beads, resembling an oblong faceted tube, will go well with fine cutting.

Plant seeds, twigs, dried flowers and leaves will help organize a small island of nature in the middle of a bustling city, which is what eco-style strives for.

Stale scraps of fabric are also useful for decoration: they can be wrapped around the frame of the mirror. Even napkins and magazine clippings will be useful if you use them in decoupage technique.

Another beautiful option frame design - mosaic. Of course, you can try to search colored glass, left over from broken things, at home, but in hobby and art stores there are pieces of glass already cut into neat plates specifically for creating mosaic images. They are safe to use, which cannot be said about untreated fragments.

Even if the mirror does not have a frame, you can make a frame yourself - for example, using a piece of plywood. Cut out a circle, rectangle or square from it - depending on the chosen shape.

Attach a mirror to it to make sure the frame is wide enough. The mirror can be glued to the surface using silicone sealant, which has good water resistance and heat resistance.

The resulting frame can be decorated various materials using a glue gun.

The decor of the mirror makes an ordinary typical mirror unusual and attracts the attention of others. The decor of the mirror lies in its framing with elements of stylish materials.

Do not sculpt everything on the mirror. The decor of the mirror should match the interior design of the room and color schemes present in the house.

You can decorate mirrors both new and old. Perhaps the old ones will look even better in your home.

To decide on the material for decorating the mirror, it is worth attaching part of this material to the mirror. Pre-planned compositions are more likely to succeed. They will gracefully look in the design of any kind of rooms: hallway, bedroom, bathroom or living room.

If you want to have a mirror that no one else has, then you should realize your ideas with the help of a mirror decor with your own hands.

For example, if you decide to make a frame from the remains of ceiling plinths, then you do not need to add parts from another material to the design. They may be structurally incompatible and difficult to connect, and the construction may be heavy.

The frame for the mirror can be of a familiar design, or it can also be made in the form of stucco molding from any materials at hand, in the form of a mosaic directly on the surface of the mirror itself. There are a lot of design options for this item, and the most important thing is to choose one of the ways.

How and from what to make a frame for a mirror

Before you start working on the author's frame for the mirror, you need to carefully consider all the steps, prepare everything you need during work - materials, accessories, tools, measure the mirror and, of course, make a sketch of the future masterpiece. To create a sketch, you need a pencil, an eraser, a ruler, a triangle and a pattern, a drawing paper of the appropriate size. It is better to create a drawing and a drawing in full size and “in color” so that you can “try it on” on a mirror.

Small parts should be laid out in containers so that they do not crumble and interfere with creativity, and for brushes it is best to prepare a glass or a jar of solvent so that they do not dry out.

Advice! To create a frame, the remains of construction or finishing materials- drywall, facing tiles, plinth, rail.

In design studios, you can see mirror frames from the most unusual materials- clothespins, cutlery, knitting needles, inexpensive jewelry, tiles with images of family members printed on its surface, from fragments of broken porcelain tableware, plastic, packaging from discs, sweets or cigarettes, from sequins and disposable spoons, newsprint or magazine paper, dried flowers. From the plinth, you need to prepare the frame parts in accordance with the dimensions of the mirror. You can pre-attach the mirror to the base of plywood or thick cardboard. Attaching the frame to the base is much easier than to glass surface. The details of the frame must match not only in size, the pattern on the plinth must be adjusted so that the lines of one part smoothly merge into the lines of another.

After the glue has dried at the joints of the frame, you need to cover its surface with putty to hide the traces of gluing and “refine” the pattern. After the putty has completely dried, you can start painting. There are a lot of ways to finish such a frame - you can select contrasting color drawing on the plinth, you can artificially age the frame with paint, or you can paint it in one color, in a classic style.

To decorate a mirror in the style of a la America of the 60s, small pieces of colorful textiles, cereals or pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, which are glued onto a wooden or plastic base, are suitable.

Advice! The frame pasted over with figures of fish, shells and colored pebbles will remind you of a vacation by the sea. But in order to "hold" such heavy objects on the base, you need to use "serious" adhesive base, paint primer or double-sided tape.

Serious materials require a serious approach to working with them. unusual shape jewelry will require a longer time investment. The voids between the elements must be filled with sealant or putty so that dust does not accumulate between them. And caring for such a frame will be more difficult, because many materials cannot be washed with water and detergents.

A creative approach to business can be a great tool in getting a very stylish accessory. We called this idea “Circle within Circles” because round mirror framed by several dozen white, plastic rings.

DIY mirror decor photo

And get these rings from the usual plastic pipe. The complexity of the process is only that you need to cut the rings very carefully. They must be the same width, otherwise the product will not turn out neat. To do this, it is better to use an electric "trimming" saw with a disc with fine teeth. If one is not available, a miter box can be used.

A glue gun is used to fasten the rings, they can glue all the rings almost imperceptibly. But before that, the sections of each ring must be treated with fine sandpaper to remove all burrs. Cause we do beautiful accessory, so everything should be neat in it.

Rings can be glued in any way, optionally, as in the photo, the composition can have both a square and an oval shape. It is recommended to do it in accordance with the shape of the mirror.

The mirror itself is glued to the rings and also with a glue gun exactly in the middle. All parts to be glued must first be cleaned of dust, they can also be degreased. You can hang the product to the wall directly on the rings.

Thus, you can make a composition of two or three mirrors, and so that it does not look lonely, you can “support” it, for example glass vases or a white table, like the author's.

Mirror frame made of disposable spoons

The idea may not be new, but it deserves attention. Because the result is very good. To work, you will need a lot of disposable spoons. The author used 288 pieces for the project. The amount may be less, depending on the size of the mirror and the frame itself. But remember, the product must be self-sufficient and neat, otherwise, how can they brag to the guests!

You will also need:

  • Cardboard or MDF sheet 5-8 mm thick
  • glue gun
  • Paint and brushes

First of all, you need to cut a circle from a sheet of cardboard. desired diameter, it will be the base, the spoons will hold on to it. Inside the circle in the center, another circle is cut out slightly larger than the diameter of the mirror. On the resulting cardboard ring, markings are made - to fix the first row of spoons (draw a circle with a pencil indented from the edge of 1 cm).

The most difficult stage in the work is gluing the cups together. The work is dreary and long, it does not tolerate fuss and haste. You should start with the outer circle according to the markup. The last, inner row, is glued not to the cardboard, but to the previous row, so that 2-3 cm of the cups hang down.

The photo below was taken just before this stage.

When all the spoons are fixed and the glue has dried, we proceed to staining. The author of the idea from 7 rows painted the 4th inner ones. Any color can be used depending on the idea. In our situation, the master created the image of a chrysanthemum flower, which he did well by selecting desired color and forms.

Coloring the composition should also be for the reason that to hide the cheap sheen of plastic. But first it must be treated with a primer so that the paint lays down better and does not form smudges. Acrylic paint was used for coloring.

Important point: the reverse hanging side of the inner row of spoons is also painted, because the mirror will be glued to it. If this is not done, the mirror will reflect it.

When the paint is completely dry, the mirror is fixed to the frame using the same gun. And a rope is glued to it or cardboard, it is for it that the product is hung on the wall

Here's what will come of it!
