The principle of operation of the sanding parquet grinder 220v. Cycling machine. Renovating old parquet. To carry out the work you will need

None of the existing materials can compare with natural wood neither in quality nor in external attractiveness. Of course wooden house with a wooden floor - it is environmentally friendly, aesthetically pleasing and as comfortable as possible, but in five years there will be no trace of the former beauty.

And if the walls can still be somehow “brought to life”, covered with a new layer of varnish, then what to do with the floor covering, which is subjected to heavy loads, is completely incomprehensible. But experienced builders know a fairly simple way to return wooden floor its former beauty. It's about scraping a wooden floor.

The name of the process - scraping - comes from special tool cycles that were filmed for a long time upper layer wood flooring. A scraper is a small handle with metal plates attached to it.

Scraping was carried out until the first grinding machine was invented, which by now has completely replaced the scraper.

Such a machine can be of two types:

  • drum;
  • disk.

The use of drum machines is advisable only in cases where the processing of a wooden floor is to be large area. The disadvantages of the machine include uneven scraping, which is why even the most experienced builder will not be able to withstand the entire surface of the floor at a single level. For this reason, today such a device is only removed old paint and carry out rough polishing of wood.

Disc machines, unlike drum machines, do not have such disadvantages. Having appeared relatively recently, this equipment has already managed to gain popularity due to its absolutely flat surface, which remains after processing, without any stripes and drops. The cost of drum machines is quite high, so they are used mainly by professional and repair teams.

Note! According to the manufacturers, the scraping machines are able to restore the wooden floor by 90%.

First, find out if the old wooden floor can be sanded. To do this, conduct a thorough inspection. If you find that there is too much gap between the boards or they are damaged, then first replace the defective coating elements. Only after that start work.

What will be required in the work

For looping you will need:

  • scraping machine;
  • screwdriver;
  • curb grinding machine or manual cycle;
  • abrasive sheets of various hardness;
  • polyethylene film;
  • mineral spirits (required for removing varnish).

Note! If it is planned to scrape the parquet, then the grinder must necessarily be a disc grinder (for 1 or 3 discs), but, for example, for wooden planks the device is quite suitable drum type.

Stage one. Room preparation

First, remove furniture and carpets from the room. Take framed photos and paintings as well bookshelves it is better to protect against dust penetration by covering with a large piece of film.

Dismantle interior door. Cover the opening with foil, fixing the edges with adhesive tape to prevent dust from entering neighboring rooms. Windows, on the contrary, open so that all the dust comes out.

Stage two. Floor preparation

If there are minor gaps between the floorboards, then they must be filled with a filler, for example, sawdust. To remove old varnish, use mineral spirits and a scraper.

After that, wash the floor and let it dry thoroughly for 2-3 days.

After preparation, it remains only to purchase good headphones and a respirator. When cycling, the noise level and dust generation increase significantly, so think about safety measures.

Stage three. Cycling

There is an opinion that scraping is an extremely complex and time-consuming procedure. In fact, the most difficult thing is to keep grinder in the required position.

1. Beginning the process

Start by using coarse sanding sheets. This will help remove the remnants of the old coating, remove all defects and irregularities in the material.

Note! When working, always keep the wire from the scraping device on your shoulder so as not to accidentally damage it.

Before starting the machine, tilt it slightly, then gently lower it to the floor. You will notice the work of the tape immediately, since the device will be more difficult to hold in your hands. Move across the room, firmly holding the handle of the device. When you reach the opposite wall, gently lift it up and rotate it 180ᵒ.

Curly boards cycle a little differently. Move diagonally, that is, from one corner of the room to another. Do this several times, then repeat the procedure, but in the opposite direction. The smoothness of the floor after that will be perfect.

3. Grinding with medium grit sheets

At the end of the scraping of the curly boards, change the previous sheet to a medium grit. Move along the boards. Start with this, if the floor surface is not too damaged.

When finished processing, make sure that no sections have been skipped. Then take a fine-grained sheet and repeat the whole procedure.

After processing the floor, it remains only to cycle it near the walls. A curb scraper works great for this, start with medium grit sheets and finish with the thinnest disc.

Note! An ordinary scraper machine will not work for this, since it cannot boast of such thoroughness as a curb machine.

5. Completion of work

This is where the cycle ends. Sweep the floor and wipe it with a dry cloth, then apply the top coat.

Note! Do not leave the wooden floor untreated after grinding, because during operation it will quickly be damaged.

Separately, it is worth talking about such an important stage in the preparation of the floor covering as puttying cracks. Use special putty pastes for this, which can be:

  • ready;
  • those that need to be mixed with a special putty composition.

Note! You should not follow the advice of a pseudo-specialist, who say that only cracks and others need to be puttied. damaged areas- this will not give the desired effect.

Thoroughly mix the putty and apply it to the desired surface. Wait for it to dry (it will take about an hour), then follow the instructions.

Note! Do not immediately arrange furniture! Wait until the varnish is completely dry and crystallized.

Note! Lacquer coatings on water based they do not have any smell, but this cannot be said about polyurethane, for example.

As a conclusion

It is worth noting that not in all cases the wooden floor can be restored by sanding. It is recommended to entrust the process to specialists, but the work can be done independently.
For a detailed acquaintance with the cycling procedure, watch the proposed thematic video material.

When repairing wooden surfaces, it is customary to scrape. This is done in order to eliminate all irregularities, remove deep dirt and renew old coatings. It is absolutely impossible to imagine that such work was once done manually with the help of scrapers-cycles. It is quite possible that during the restoration of parquet in the houses of nobles, such techniques are still practiced today, however, the sanding machine, a miracle of modern engineering, allows you to perform listed works better and much faster.

The need for scraping work

Parquet flooring needs periodic maintenance. Despite the durability of such a floor, in the course of its long-term use, there is a need for minor repairs: replacing the mastic or varnish coating. Scraping parquet flooring is accepted immediately after laying, when they are engaged in the restoration of the lacquer coating of the parquet floor or its replacement.

As a rule, scraping work takes place in two stages: the first is rough processing, which consists in leveling the coating, removing stains and removing traces of old dirt and legs, as well as removing old varnish; the second is fine grinding and preparatory work to apply a new coating.

The tool for scraping parquet is a grinding tool. Such a machine can be successfully used to work on parquet flooring and on another wooden floor: for example, on the deck floor. This is true if the fastening of the board was carried out using hidden brackets. The use of a parquet scraper is considered convenient for working in corners, areas near heating radiators and walls, and other “blind zones”.

The concept of a scraping machine

When working on large areas, a serious sanding machine is required, which is called a three-disk parquet grinder. In this case, the work will be done faster, and the result will be better. In the context of homework and small spaces a manual sanding machine is quite suitable, with the help of which it is no less convenient to grind “blind zones”.

By design, manual scraping machines are vibrating, tape, eccentric, delta-shaped and other types. All designs are equipped with nozzles for connecting a vacuum cleaner and make it easy to change working grinding nozzles. Machines for scraping parquet can be designed for different times of continuous operation, since different models have different power. Household devices are designed for 220V in terms of supply voltage, while professional ones require industrial power supply of 380V.

Scraping equipment

The following equipment is used for sanding and sanding parquet:

  • Cycle drum machine. In most cases, for household floor scraping, it is customary to use machines with a drum width of 200 millimeters. Before starting work, it is necessary to carefully inspect the floor for the presence of protruding nails and foreign objects, remove all construction debris from the room.
  • Single and triple disc grinders. These devices are usually used for professional work for high-quality finishing polishing on floors high level with increased requirements, new array and parquet, as well as before tinting the parquet or floor. This equipment can be used when varnishing for intermediate interlayer grinding.
  • Apparatus for grinding hard-to-reach places and edges. Previously, scrapers were used to scrape edges and hard-to-reach places that were inaccessible to overall grinders, and then “grinders”. But technology does not stand still and today special machines are produced - the so-called "boots".
  • abrasive materials. Different equipment requires different abrasive materials - sandpaper in rolls different widths and graininess. The length of one filling is usually 700 millimeters. The consumption of abrasive material varies greatly, depending on the height differences between the boards, the age of the parquet, the type of the previous one. protective coating- stain, varnish, paint, drying oil and can affect the final cost of the scraping machine.
  • Auxiliary materials and equipment: scissors for cutting abrasive material, keys for installing sandpaper on a drum machine, putty, tray, roller, broom, vacuum cleaner, respiratory respirator.

The device of the scraping machine

The parquet grinder has a compact body, usually with a hinged lid over the drum and a retractable type handle for carrying the machine. The sanding drum has a simple device for attaching sandpaper. For fastening in the drum of the skin, a groove is made and 2 clamping rollers with flats are installed.

Combining the flats with the groove with the help of special keys, it is customary to fill the ends of the skin, stretch it by turning the clamping rollers one to the other and fix the sanding skin. The surface of the drum of sanding machines has an elastic coating, which will provide a dense and uniform tension of the grinding skins to achieve a high quality of the treated surface.

For sanding, sanding paper is usually used in a roll of 200 millimeters wide on a twill basis. The grinding drums are driven by an electric motor through a V-belt transmission. The V-belt is tensioned by moving the motor turntable. The side wheels are coated with polyurethane to prevent damage to the floor when the machine is moving.

In modern scraping machines there is a mechanism that allows you to adjust the level of pressure on the floor surface, and a mechanism for adjusting the remaining distance from the machine to the wall of the room. The device of the scraping machine allows you to process the surface near the walls when removed skirting boards, and is also responsible for the ease of control and excellent maneuverability of the device.

The control mechanism, which is located on the rack, ensures the transfer of the machine from the transport position, in which the drum is raised above the floor, into working position when the sanding drum touches the surface. AT modern devices mechanisms for quick lifting of the drum are installed, which facilitate the control of the scraping machine during operation.

Homemade scraping machine

Previously, when processing wooden surfaces, it was necessary to make laborious manual actions in order to achieve the desired result. Today, various grinding machines have appeared on sale. However, the price of scraping machines from the manufacturer is quite high, and therefore developers use them infrequently.

It is not necessary to buy such an expensive grinder, because you can make it yourself. A homemade scraping machine consists of an electric motor, which is mounted on a mobile frame, a flexible shaft and a grinding wheel.

You can use a round motor from an old washing machine. Cut out a bed measuring 180 by 500 by 20 millimeters from a thick sheet of iron. Cut one long side evenly with a metal milling machine, because a flat side is needed to attach the platform with the engine.

Choose such dimensions of the platform for the scraping machine with your own hands - 160 by 180 by 10 millimeters. Make a markup and drill three holes with a drill. Then mark the end of the frame with holes, which is evenly cut, drill holes in it and cut the thread with a tap. Pull the platform to the frame with three bolts and place holes on the studs for fastening the engine to the platform.

Grinding wheels can be ordered by a turner, choose their sizes - width 38 millimeters, diameter 55 millimeters, sides 4 millimeters each and a groove 4 millimeters deep. Drill the first roller to fit on the motor shaft. In the second, make a groove for 2 bearings. Preheat the roller to a temperature so that the water that has fallen on it hisses, it will be easy to insert 2 bearings.

The last stage of work will be drilling in the corner of the hole and creating markings in the frame. The rollers must be in line. The distance between the centers of the grinding wheels in the future sanding machine should be close to 300 millimeters. Be sure to stretch the rubber on the rollers, like modern grinding machines. The width of the tape and rubber is close to 30 millimeters. Rubber can be taken from the cameras of a moped or bicycle.

Now you know how to make a scraping machine, and what it is for. To make your work easier, of course, you can buy a grinding machine in the distribution network of your city. However, if you want to save money, then make a scraping machine with your own hands. It is not so difficult!

Few floor coverings compare to natural wood. And it's no wonder natural material will always win over the artificial. Moreover, in addition to the rich appearance, the tree is durable and durable. However, during operation, the top layer of wood becomes unusable, and in order to restore it, the surface is scraped.

Scraping is the professional name for sanding parquet and other wood floors. Since the floor has the maximum load in the room, average term service life of a varnish coating rarely exceeds 10 years.

Here one of the most significant advantages of wood is manifested - the top layer of such a coating can be restored. And this means that you can get practically new floors without replacing the material.

In the process of sanding, the top layer of varnish or paint is removed from the floors, defects and irregularities are removed. The result is a smooth, fresh surface, ready for recoating.

The recommended frequency of scraping is once every 5-6 years. This allows you to keep the tree in good condition and prevent the occurrence of significant defects. After all, one of the main tasks of varnish is protection from moisture. So when the paint cracks, the water soaks into the wood. As a result, the boards rot or warp, and in this case they will have to be replaced with new ones.

Scraping a wooden floor

Scraping equipment

Bare hands will not be able to bring the floors into perfect condition. This requires a special tool.

There are several types of scraping machines:

  • drum - has been used for floor treatment for a long time. The machine got its name thanks to the device - the scraping process occurs due to the rotation of the drum, on which the abrasive material is put on. The disadvantage of these units is that when using it is difficult to obtain a perfectly flat surface. Therefore, drum machines are used for roughing floors. They are able to cope with surface irregularities with differences up to 5-6 mm;
  • disk machines are modern look cycle equipment. Due to the use of a rotating disc, the processed surface is much smoother than after drum scraping. However, this equipment is expensive, so it is used by specialized organizations.

Drum scraping machine

These two tools are designed for sanding large areas, but in any room there are places that a large tool cannot reach. Therefore, for these purposes, an angle machine is used for scraping a natural wooden floor. They are different type, however, the models are united by compactness and lightness.

Important! Quality equipment scraping is expensive, so for one-time work it is much more profitable to rent.

Additional tool

In addition to the main machines, other equipment may be required:

  • manual cycle;
  • belt grinder;
  • angle grinder.

Although a manual cycle is considered archaic, it is advisable to have it on hand. For processing large areas, it is better not to use such a cycle. After all, grinding will take a lot of time, and the labor costs will turn out to be rather big. But for difficult places she by the way. The main advantage of this tool is its filigree - a manual cycler can easily remove small defects and work in a limited space. At the same time, the risk of damaging the wood is minimal.

Manual scraper

Another popular sanding tool is belt sanders. This is one of the varieties of drums, only much smaller in size. The principle of operation is the same for them, but due to the lower weight, the tape scraper is used to carry out finishing work on wood.

There are many models of such instruments on the market. However, for sanding a wooden floor or parquet, it is better to choose professional models. In addition to being reliable and powerful, they are equipped with a dust bag and the ability to connect to a construction vacuum cleaner.

Angle grinders

Angle grinders, or as they have long been accustomed to call them - angle grinders, differ from other tools in their versatility. Thanks to this, they have gained popularity among both professional builders and ordinary homeowners.

If the room is small, then scraping the wooden floor is carried out only by a grinder, without using another specialized tool. Additionally, only a manual cycle is needed.

This possibility is achieved thanks to a variety of special nozzles, emery wheels with different hardness. However, when working with angle grinders, follow these rules:

  • be sure to use personal protection- mask or goggles, respirator. The problem is that there is a lot of dust.
  • you need to work carefully - it is easy to damage the wooden coating with a grinder. Therefore, the main rule is to work more slowly, but better.

As for the tool itself, it is better to take models with speed control - so you can easily choose the speed of rotation of the disk. A soft start would be nice too.

Bulgarian

Expendable materials

In addition to the tool, for the work you will need to purchase and expendable materials. The main one is sandpaper, since this abrasive is used to polish the floor. For looping, several types are used:

  • coarse-grained paper - designated as No. 40 and is used for roughing: peeling off old paint and eliminating large coating defects;
  • medium grit abrasive - used after rough work. It is designated No. 60 and No. 80. This paper is also used for primary processing, but in cases where the floor is initially in good condition;
  • paper with fine grain - used for finishing scraping. It removes minor defects and roughness on the boards. After it, a perfectly smooth surface is obtained.

This material is sold in sheets and is calculated based on the consumption of 1 meter of paper per 10 squares of wooden floor.

Important! Do not save and buy the cheapest sandpaper. Otherwise, the abrasive will quickly crumble from the base.

Sandpaper

Manual scraping

In principle, in small areas you can do without the use of special electric tool. Handmade more labor-intensive and time-consuming, but the end result will be no worse than when using a scraping machine.

There are two work options:

  • using a runic cycle;
  • with sandpaper.

In fact, hand sanding a wood floor with sandpaper is effective. And it takes less time than working with cycles. To speed up the process, the abrasive is put on a special flat nozzle with a handle.

Peculiarities of scraping

Wood is a soft material and is easily damaged, and the appearance of new defects will add extra work. Therefore, in order to avoid mistakes, adhere to the rules for scraping floors:

  • scraping is carried out sequentially from the far corner of the room. The floor runs in stripes - from wall to wall.
  • the direction of grinding is along the fibers of the wood, if you move across, this will lead to bumps and roughness on the boards;

Scraping direction

  • if sanding serrated boards, then roughing is done at an angle of 45 degrees with respect to the material. Those. the scraper machine moves diagonally across the room. Several successive passes forward and backward are made. And fine grinding is carried out along the fibers. The parquet laid with herringbone or mosaic is processed in the same way.
  • scraping tool must be moved at a constant speed. And you can not move too fast, otherwise the surface will turn out bumpy.
  • you can’t press too hard on the tool, hold it in one place for a long time - you can easily burn the wood or leave a dent on it.

In addition, you need to remember that each strip is processed in 2-3 passes by the machine. And the last - because sandpaper quickly becomes clogged with wood dust, monitor its condition and change it in time.

Cycling machine. Renovating old parquet

Types of machines for scraping floors

Since scraping is a preliminary stage of grinding the floor surface, the task of any scraping machine is to remove a layer of parquet or wood with a thickness of no more than 1 ... 1.5 mm. Therefore, in any design of the machines, two working units are provided - for separating the surface layer from the base of the floor, and for the subsequent removal of chips into a special accumulator.

The tool for the first phase of sanding is a sandpaper, which is fixed on an elastic substrate (usually a rubber base plays its role). Chips are removed using a blade-type fan.

Scrapers for wooden floors or parquet are produced in two varieties - tape and drum. In the first case, the removal of the surface layer is carried out with an endless sanding belt, in the second case, this operation is performed by a sanding sheet, which is pre-cut to the size of the drum surface. The machines have an electric drive from a household network of 220 V (for machines of low and medium power), or from three-phase network voltage 380 V (for professional units).

Units of a typical scraping machine:

  1. Electric motor.
  2. V-belt transmission.
  3. Working shaft in rolling bearings.
  4. Mechanical transmission to the fan shaft.
  5. A volute to which a chip collector (dust-proof fabric bag) is connected.
  6. The mechanism of pressing and adjusting the center distance between the motor shaft and the working shaft of the machine.
  7. Connecting hose.
  8. Control Panel.
  9. Housing with wheels for moving the unit.

The execution of the drive mechanism is determined by the type of scraping machine. If the actuating tool is a tape, then the transfer of force and torque occurs with the help of rollers. Pressing the tape to the rollers - eccentric, friction. In drum-type machines, the clamping force is adjusted by turning the platform on which the electric motor is installed. In the same way, the tension and loosening of the V-belt pulleys is performed.

Sequence of work

Depending on the current state of the floor surface, it is necessary to select the type of sanding paper or belt. Typically, manufacturers complete equipment with several types of tapes. But in many cases, the price of a new unit is quite high, and the rental option is preferred. Moreover, the constant performance of scraping work is typical only for special repair teams or workshops.

The choice of the optimal grit size of the grinding tool can be performed using the following data:

  • For cosmetic work on parquet (e.g. local leveling), a water-resistant sanding pad is sufficient. paper basis grit R60.
  • To remove the surface layer of paint or varnish, as well as to remove wood up to 2 mm thick, P80 grit sandpaper is suitable.
  • To finish the surface or remove a thin layer, it is preferable to use sandpaper with a grit of P100 or P120.
  • To prepare the parquet for painting, it is advisable to use a sandpaper with a grain size of P150 or P180.

The fastening of the skin in scraping machines is carried out differently, depending on the type of unit. In drum-type equipment, the skin is prepared according to the size of the drum, after which, using tension rollers placed in a special technological groove, they are pressed against the surface of the drum. In belt scraping machines, installation and change of sanding paper having desired width, is faster - for this it is enough to put the tape on the transport rollers and press it against them.

Next, a chip accumulator is put on the pipe to the upper part of the cast aluminum housing and connected to a hose that catches waste coming from under the drum or belt. To do this, use nozzles located at both ends of the hose (they are identical, so the hose can be installed in any way).

The clamping force is adjusted manually, according to specific test removal indicators: if the removal efficiency of the surface layer is low, then by turning the platform with an electric motor, the belt tension is increased. If the unit is rented, it is useful to remember: with a center distance between the pulleys of up to 280 mm, the belt deflection when pressed with your thumb in the middle should be about 6 mm, and for a distance of more than 280 mm - an additional 1 mm for every 50 mm.

Having set the optimal tension, you can start scraping. There is an opinion that drum-type machines process the floor more evenly than tape machines, leaving no streaks. However, this trouble is easily eliminated - it is enough to carry out each subsequent pass of the draw frame with a small margin.

What to choose?

Deservedly popular among specialists are belt-type scrapers of models SO-206M and SO-206.1M of Belarusian production. SO-206M refers to professional-type units, since the machine operates from a 380 V network, for the rest technical specifications models are identical:

  1. The maximum productivity of scraping, m 2 / h - up to 50.
  2. Drive power, W - 220.
  3. The mode of operation is long.
  4. Weight, kg - 75.

Model SO-206M is equipped with a phase converter, which is interlocked with circuit breaker electric motor. The described line of scraping machines, in comparison with the previously produced model CO-206, is characterized by an increased drive resource, since the electric motor is installed horizontally, and this improves its airflow and reduces the load on the rotor bearings. Improved accessibility of the machine for scraping work in hard-to-reach places. The price of the units is from 82 thousand rubles.

From drum-type machines, you can take a closer look at the units manufactured by the German company Hummel. The equipment can perform not only sanding, but also grinding, it can be easily adapted to any type of flooring - not only for parquet and wooden floors, but also for mosaic flooring. A significant limitation is high price for equipment - from 690 thousand rubles.

Features of scraping a wooden floor

During overhaul Everything in the house needs to be taken care of. Maintenance of the floor covering is also an important task. There are many varieties of materials on the market, each of which deserves attention.

For many years, parquet boards and natural wood. This can be logically explained, because wood looks presentable and fits any interior design. Of course, it has its own characteristics, including the need for careful care. And if you have just such a floor covering at home, you probably noticed that over time it has faded, scuffs have appeared on it, and this means that certain measures need to be taken. We are talking about scraping a wooden floor, which will solve the problem of lost presentability.

The question arises whether it is possible to do this work on your own, or it is necessary to apply for a service to qualified specialists. Of course, this work requires certain skills, but if you carefully study all the details and follow the instructions, you can do it yourself and achieve the desired result.

What is a cycle?

There are several types of finishing materials for flooring. Among the huge selection, natural wood is in great demand and has not lost its relevance for many years. Parquet is an indicator excellent quality, durability and prestige. natural material is identified with comfort and warmth, but it must be properly looked after, otherwise it will cease to look beautiful.

Scraping allows you to save the floor from scuffs. This process is complex, but very effective, thanks to it you can extend the life of the wooden coating. With the help of scraping, the upper thin layer parquet or wooden floor. For this, special equipment is used, which consists of sharpened metal knives. Such a process will achieve density and perfect evenness of the coating.

If the parquet looks uneven and old, it is recommended to use a drum machine here. It works neatly, and will not remove an extra layer. Sandpaper can become dirty very quickly if bitumen comes out between the cracks, which means that it needs to be replaced. Of course, we must not forget about the varieties of wood species, since this is important to consider during scraping.

If the floor is made of exotic material, it is better to consult an experienced specialist here.

Scraping a wooden floor: technology features

No matter how wide the variety of modern flooring may be, it is the plank floor that is still considered the most environmentally friendly and comfortable. True, it has one significant drawback - even with careful operation, after a few years its appearance deteriorates. Help can come here special procedure- cycling, about the features and subtleties of which, we will describe in this article.

What it is?

For those who first come across the term "scrapping" of a wooden floor, sometimes it is not entirely clear what this procedure is. So, scraping is the removal of the topmost wood layer from the boards. In fact, this procedure replaces the varnishing, grinding and polishing of the boards.

The main feature of scraping is the possibility of its implementation only when using a special scraping machine.

Manually, and even more so, using improvised tools, it is simply impossible to cope with such a task.

Another feature is that scraping is possible only as long as the thickness of the boards allows it. After all, do not forget that with each such procedure, the top layer of the floor is removed, and sooner or later it will finally become thinner. True, this will come in 50-70 years, not earlier.

Types of scraping machines

Until recently, cycling was carried out using manual typewriter, which was called so - cycle. Today, special grinding machines are used, working from connection to electrical network.

They are of two types: drum and disk:

  • The drum machine for scraping consumes a lot of electricity, it is quite difficult to operate and makes a lot of noise. Experts today insist that it is rational to use it only for processing a large floor area.
  • Disc sanders do not have such shortcomings, they level the floor perfectly evenly, give the boards shine and original appearance. It is disk scraping machines that are now at the peak of popularity.

Using a disk apparatus, you can completely scrape a wooden floor yourself. The main thing is to carefully follow all the steps and recommendations.

Required Tools

Before proceeding directly to scraping the old floor with your own hands, you need to stock up on the necessary materials and tools.

To carry out the work you will need:

  • The cycler itself. This is the main tool, without which the work simply cannot be done.
  • Nozzles for rough grinding.
  • Nozzles for grinding corners and uneven joints.
  • Surface grinder.
  • A construction vacuum cleaner or an old but powerful ordinary household appliance.
  • Sandpaper large and small.
  • Special brushes for varnish.
  • Polish or paint for laminate.
  • Emery knife.
  • Special solution for the preparation of putty.

The presence of all these tools and materials at hand should be taken care of in advance and placed in close proximity. This will allow you not to be distracted in the process of doing the work to search for the necessary material.

Technological process

Preparatory stage

Regardless of where the floor renovation work will be carried out - in the country house or in the apartment, first you need to perform preparatory measures and only then scrape the flooring:

  • First of all, it is necessary to completely free the room from any things and furniture, the floor must be completely empty. In addition, the plinth should be removed, and the door leaf should be removed from the hinges. The doorway itself should be hung with a piece of thick film, this will protect other rooms from the penetration of wood dust.
  • Next, the floor plank is examined for mold and severe cracks. All these flaws should be removed at this stage. Scrubbing a painted floor should begin by removing the old paint from the boards. For this, a special solvent or mineral alcohol can be used.

  • During operation, it is necessary to open the window wide open, this will allow dust and odors to quickly disappear from the room. After that, it is necessary to thoroughly wash the floors with clean warm water and allow to dry for at least a day.
  • If badly damaged and rotten boards were noticed, they should be replaced completely or at least partially with new ones. All protruding nail heads should be driven back into the floor.
  • Upon completion of all preparatory procedures, it is necessary to make sure that the floor is completely cleaned of all contaminants and does not have strong and sharp protrusions over its entire surface.

Sanding and sanding

After doing preparatory phase you can scrape and sand the old wood flooring:

  • First you need to do a rough scraping. It is at this stage that a special machine with a suitable nozzle is required. With its help, not only the remnant of varnish or paint is removed, but also a thin layer of the wood itself is removed, on which there are various damages. Such work should be done slowly enough. The movement of the machine should be directed along the length of the boards themselves.

I would especially like to note that for pine board it is worth choosing a nozzle with an average degree of hardness, since such wood cycles quite quickly and easily.

This stage is considered completed when all the significant shortcomings of the wooden plank floor are eliminated.

  • The next step is sanding the boards. This procedure is performed in three stages using different nozzles of different sizes. The first step is done using size 40 paper, the second step requires using size 60 paper and the third sanding step is done with size 100 paper. This staged grinding allows you to achieve the perfect smoothness of the boards, in addition, it is this procedure that gives them their original color and shine.

It is fine grinding that takes the most time and effort. However, the correct and unhurried execution of this stage of work guarantees a high-quality and long-term result of the whole cycling as a whole.

Treatment of hard-to-reach areas

This stage of work is carried out almost in the last turn. And here you should use not only a scraper machine, but also a manual scraper. Sometimes, only using these two tools, it is possible to process floors in corners, niches and under pipes.

As with the entire floor, the boards must first be roughly sanded. And then sand them down. To do this, use special corner nozzles of a suitable size.

The final stage

After all the work has been completed, it is necessary to carefully but carefully putty all the gaps between the boards using a special putty. Allow the material to dry completely. Then, using a sanding pad with size 100 paper, go over the entire floor again. This final sanding will give the floor a finished look and eliminate any unevenness.

The final touch is the application of varnish. This procedure requires care and uniformity. The varnish is applied in three or four layers. Each next layer is applied after the previous one has completely dried. The average drying time for each layer of varnish is 4 hours.

Safety

Scraping a plank wooden floor is not only a very responsible and time-consuming task, but also quite dangerous.

Therefore, in order to protect yourself as much as possible in the process of its implementation, you must follow the following recommendations:

  • During work, doors to other rooms must be tightly closed. But the room itself should be well ventilated.
  • It is imperative when working with varnishes, and even during the scraping itself, to use protective mask or respirator.
  • To perform work, you should choose comfortable clothing that does not constrain movements, but at the same time does not have any hanging parts. It is also recommended to tie your hair or put a scarf on your head.

  • When using the scraping machine itself, do not press hard on it. Otherwise, strong dents will remain on the boards, which will be difficult to eliminate.
  • During the work, special attention should be paid to ensure that the wire does not fall under the machine. If this happens, you must immediately disconnect the device from the mains and be sure to replace the extension cord with a new one.

Following these simple tips will help to significantly improve the quality and safety of the work performed.

Well, in order to make the cycling process even easier and more convenient, we suggest that you use the following useful recommendations:

  • When you turn on the device for the first time, you need to tilt it slightly and lift it above the floor, holding the device firmly with both hands and only then, in a slightly inclined state, put it on the floor, and only then straighten it. If the machine will twitch a little at the same time, then this is not a problem.
  • When rough sanding and fine sanding when approaching the wall, the device should be lifted from one side, rotated around itself and then continue processing the next boards in the opposite direction.
  • Boards with a wavy structure cycle only diagonally. In this case, rough scraping is carried out twice in the opposite direction. Fine sanding should also be done diagonally using the standard attachments for this procedure.
  • It is better to process the floor near the walls with a special curb nozzle, which has an average grain level.
  • When cycling floors made of soft wood, you should not try to make them perfectly smooth by sanding. It is simply impossible to achieve such an effect due to the structure of the boards themselves. This can be done only with proper varnishing of the floors.

Do-it-yourself floor cycling, especially for the first time, really takes a lot of time and effort, but the stunning updated appearance of the flooring fully justifies such costs. It is believed that a perfectly scraped floor is a surface that is pleasant to walk on barefoot, so if there is no discomfort during such walking, then all the work was done correctly.

None of the existing materials can compare with natural wood either in quality or in visual appeal. Of course, a wooden house with a wooden floor is environmentally friendly, aesthetically pleasing and as comfortable as possible, but in five years there will be no trace of its former beauty.

Do-it-yourself scraping of a wooden floor

And if the walls can still be somehow “brought to life”, covered with a new layer of varnish, then what to do with the floor covering, which is subjected to heavy loads, is completely incomprehensible. But experienced builders know a fairly simple way to restore the wooden floor to its former beauty. It's about scraping a wooden floor.

Types of scraping machines

Types of scraping machines

The name of the process - scraping - comes from a special scraping tool, which for a long time removed the top layer of a wooden coating. A scraper is a small handle with metal plates attached to it.

Scraping was carried out until the first grinding machine was invented, which by now has completely replaced the scraper.

Such a machine can be of two types:

The use of drum machines is advisable only in cases where a large area of \u200b\u200bthe wooden floor is to be processed. The disadvantages of the machine include uneven sanding, which is why even the most experienced builder will not be able to withstand the entire floor surface at a single level. For this reason, today with such an apparatus they only remove old paint and carry out rough polishing of wood.

Disc grinder

Disc machines, unlike drum machines, do not have such disadvantages. Having appeared relatively recently, this equipment has already gained popularity due to the absolutely flat surface that remains after processing, without any stripes and drops. The cost of drum machines is quite high, so they are used mainly by professional and repair teams.

Note! According to the manufacturers, the scraping machines are able to restore the wooden floor by 90%.

Do-it-yourself scraping of a wooden floor

First, find out if the old wooden floor can be sanded. To do this, conduct a thorough inspection. If you find that there is too much gap between the boards or they are damaged, then first replace the defective coating elements. Only after that start work.

What will be required in the work

For looping you will need:

  • scraping machine;
  • screwdriver;
  • curb sander or hand scraper;
  • abrasive sheets of various hardness;
  • polyethylene film;
  • mineral spirits (required for removing varnish).

Note! If you plan to scrape the parquet, then the grinder must necessarily be a disc grinder (for 1 or 3 discs), but, for example, a drum-type device is quite suitable for wooden boards.

Stage one. Room preparation

First, remove furniture and carpets from the room. Take framed photographs and paintings, and bookshelves are best protected from dust by covering with a large piece of film.

Remove interior door. Cover the opening with foil, fixing the edges with adhesive tape to prevent dust from entering neighboring rooms. Windows, on the contrary, open so that all the dust comes out.

Dismantle interior door

Stage two. Floor preparation

If there are minor gaps between the floorboards, then they must be filled with a filler, for example, sawdust. To remove old varnish, use mineral spirits and a scraper.

After that, wash the floor and let it dry thoroughly for 2-3 days.

After that, wash the floor and let it dry thoroughly.

After preparation, it remains only to purchase good headphones and a respirator. When cycling, the noise level and dust generation increase significantly, so think about safety measures.

Stage three. Cycling

There is an opinion that scraping is an extremely complex and time-consuming procedure. In fact, the most difficult thing is to hold the grinder in the desired position.

2. Curly boards

4. Scraping near the walls

Cycling at the walls

After processing the floor, it remains only to cycle it near the walls. A curb scraper works great for this, start with medium grit sheets and finish with the thinnest disc.

Note! An ordinary scraper machine will not work for this, since it cannot boast of such thoroughness as a curb machine.

5. Completion of work

This is where the cycle ends. Sweep the floor and wipe it with a dry cloth, then apply the top coat.

Note! Do not leave the wooden floor untreated after grinding, because during operation it will quickly be damaged.

Putty cracks

Separately, it is worth talking about such an important stage in the preparation of the floor covering as puttying cracks. Use special putty pastes for this, which can be:

  • ready;
  • those that need to be mixed with a special putty composition.

Note! You should not follow the advice of a pseudo-specialist who says that only cracks and other damaged areas need to be puttied - this will not give the desired effect.

Thoroughly mix the putty and apply it to the desired surface. Wait for it to dry (it will take about an hour), then follow the instructions.

  1. After drying, carry out a second thin sanding to remove excess material.
  2. Vacuum the floor thoroughly. The surface must be perfectly clean, because even the smallest debris will be clearly visible under the coating layer.

Fine sanding parquet

Note! Do not immediately arrange furniture! Wait until the varnish is completely dry and crystallized.

  1. Start scraping only with coarse-grained sheets. So you will remove all the bumps, as well as the remnants of previous paints and varnishes.
  2. Do not limit yourself to treating damaged areas, as in the future they will differ significantly from the rest of the coating. Cycle the whole room at once.

Note! Water-based lacquers have no odor, but the same cannot be said about polyurethane, for example.

As a conclusion

Scraping a wooden floor

It is worth noting that not in all cases the wooden floor can be restored by sanding. It is recommended to entrust the process to specialists, but the work can be done independently.

Over time, the wooden floor wears out, and this process occurs unevenly, and some areas are damaged more than others. In addition, the surface darkens and loses its attractive appearance, but do-it-yourself scraping of a wooden floor can transform the surface, it will become like new.

The process is the removal of the top layer of wood and, consider how the work is carried out and what equipment will be needed.

Necessary equipment and tools

Work can be performed only if all the required devices are available:

parquet sander In the common people, it is called a scraping machine, it makes no sense to purchase such a device, it is much easier to rent it for 1-2 days, the price of this service is low, and you can carry out work without high installation costs, which will be used no more than once every five years
Angle grinder for parquet This is a compact device that is designed for processing places near walls, in corners and other hard-to-reach places. Without this tool, it is difficult to provide high quality works, so it must also be rented
Manual scraper A simple device, which is a special scraper that will help you get to the most inaccessible places, because even a compact machine cannot process corners
Expendable materials For the equipment you will need sandpaper with coarse, medium and fine grit, you will also need a wash to remove the old paint layer and a brush to apply it

Important! To clean the surface, you will need a vacuum cleaner, as it can be used to remove dust and dirt with high quality, and the final processing is done with a damp cloth.

Description of the workflow

If all the necessary tools are already available, you can begin the preparatory work, this stage is very important, since it depends on how quickly and efficiently the main stage will be carried out.

Training

Before you cycle a wooden floor, you need to carry out a number of works:

  • First of all, the room is freed from furniture and other items that can interfere with work. It is also advisable to remove paintings and curtains, since a lot of dust is generated during the processing. If there are structures that cannot be taken out, then they must be covered with a special film.
  • If the threshold has pads, then it is better to remove them so that you can sand the entire surface, the same applies to skirting boards. Next, all dirt is removed by wet cleaning and you can start the inspection.
  • Do-it-yourself paint removal from the floor can be done in several ways, but the most common are the following two options: using a building hair dryer, which heats the surface, and then the layer is removed with a scraper or spatula, the second solution is to use a special chemical composition, which softens the old coating, which is then removed with a spatula. If necessary, the treatment is repeated in problem areas.
