DIY bedside table decor. DIY bedside table: a detailed master class, photo ideas and drawings. DIY bedside table

Here is this nightstand from fashionable interior even a girl can do it! And men, all the more, will be able to surprise everyone with their skill. And it’s only for 1 day off, you can even handle it in the evening. So, are we reading the instructions?

Fashion for furniture also exists. And mid-century furniture is especially relevant now. What kind of style is this? Middle of the last century, 50-60 years - favorite Soviet armchairs and chests of drawers made of plywood with thin legs, “grandmother’s furniture from the GDR”. Everything that we took to landfills for another 15-20 years is now insanely expensive, appreciated by interior lovers and rethought by designers.

And we will make such a piece of furniture ourselves, with our own hands, a little on new way. And we won’t even cut anything - we’ll just glue the finished parts and paint with a stain.

In order to make a bedside table, you will need:

  • plywood 12 or 18 mm thick - 1 sheet 2440 × 1220 mm in size;
  • ready furniture legs, better with fastening, 55-70 cm long - 4 pcs.;
  • furniture handles - 2 pcs.;
  • sandpaper;
  • saw (if you decide to cut it yourself);
  • pencil and ruler;
  • glue for wood;
  • interior azure (or any protective agent for the tree inside).

Attention: we give the number of materials for 2 bedside tables. Firstly, you usually need exactly 2 pieces - on both sides of the bed, and secondly, you still need to buy a whole sheet of plywood - and it will be enough for just 2 tables. In extreme cases, give someone a second one!

If you do not find wooden legs on sale, as in the photo, you can use metal ones.

DIY bedside table

The first thing to do is to go buy a sheet of plywood, and at the same time find out in the store if they have a cutting service for materials. Most large construction supermarkets have their own workshops, so it remains to show them this scheme and take home the finished parts. Well, or you can pick up a saw and remember the labor lessons at school - it's very difficult to spoil everything.

Most often, plywood is sold exactly in the size of 2440 × 1220 mm, if your store has a different size, and you plan to cut it yourself, you can cut out all the details from the newspaper, lay them out compactly on plywood and circle with a pencil.

Look at the photo: the edges of some parts are cut at an angle of 45 degrees, this is best done with circular saw.

Once!

We glue the lower part with the side, the side with the top. When the glue dries well, glue the back wall to the structure. We are waiting for the glue to dry.

Two!

While the glue dries, the finished wooden legs need to be cut to the desired length (measure the length of the legs of a chair that is comfortable for you). The cut is best done at an angle of 10 degrees so that they diverge slightly from the center of the bedside table. Wooden legs need to be sanded sandpaper. She also walk around all the edges of the table.

Spread the legs with glue and glue to the table, retreating approximately 8 cm from the edges. It is unlikely that you will sit on a table, so fixing with glue should be enough. But for strength, you can put the legs on the screws (even before gluing the main parts).

Three!

We drill a hole for attaching the handle in the front part of the drawer. We collect all the details of the box, putting them on glue. We insert the box into our bedside table.

How to paint a side table

You can paint the nightstand with any wood paint that is approved for indoor use. Love lacquered surfaces? Apply multiple layers furniture varnish directly on sanded plywood, the varnish can be pre-tinted. If you don't want to change the color of the wood, just rub it with wood oil.

Well, to get this kind of surface, as in the photo, take the Belinka Interior azure on water based of any color and apply it to the plywood with a sponge, brush or roller in 2 layers.

Ready!

That's it! Screw the furniture handle into the drawer. This cute bedside table will perfectly fit into our "set" of a table, a sofa, and a bookcase that we made in past workshops.

It's nice sometimes to feel like a kind of Oblomov ... Take coffee in bed, lazily leafing through the morning newspaper, eat a sandwich with fish and a fresh cucumber. Light up the first pachitoska in the morning without getting out of bed. At this point, the wife will definitely howl, but the previous program is quite feasible. It is enough to make a bedside table corresponding to the surroundings with your own hands - and even crumbs in bed can not be feared!

Consider how to make such a bedside table

There are many varieties of bedside tables in stores and online sales, but most of them involve a special metal structure that you cannot make at home. Therefore, we chose this model and implement it on our own.

Materials and accessories

The easiest and most convenient way to make such a table is from laminated chipboard 18 mm thick. We will use melamine edge, in adhesive base. In furniture fittings stores, you can pick it up as in chipboard color, and contrasting - turn on the fantasy. In addition, we will need:

  • Confirmations 5x70 mm. Also in the furniture fittings store.
  • Wheel supports - 4 pcs. Swivel, and the material of the wheels is selected based on the material floor covering. For a carpet or carpet, plastic is better, for parquet - rubber. If there are no fasteners for them, we additionally buy 4x16 mm self-tapping screws.
  • U-shaped soft edging for eighteen-millimeter chipboard.
  • Decorative caps for confirmations.

Attention! The dimensions below are based on the height of the standard caster. It is 50-60 millimeters.

Bedside table detail

If you do not have a circular saw at home equipped with a blade with victorious soldering, you will not be able to cut chipboard cleanly and exactly to size. Laminate is a capricious thing, and curved lines and chips will look ugly. In addition, it is important for the design to comply with a clear right angle on all details:

  • 720x400 mm - 2 pieces. The table top and base are the same.
  • 564x354 mm - back wall, in additional processing does not need.
  • 564x200 mm - 2 pcs. Bedside table sides.
  • 354x182 mm - 2 pcs. Shelves.

You can order sawing parts according to these dimensions either in a building supermarket, where, in fact, laminated chipboard is sold, or in a workshop that makes custom-made furniture. For sawing they take inexpensively, but they will do everything carefully.

If you have in your home arsenal electric jigsaw with good files for a fine cut in wood - round off the front corners of the countertop and base yourself. If not, ask a sawmiller.

They indicate a radius of 50 mm, and at home they simply draw on a beer mug. The front corners are those that run into the bed. Two adjacent corners on the short side of the base and tabletop. The back corners do not need to be rounded.

Parts processing

With an edge, we paste over all open ends, even those closed after edging. The edge under the edge will replace the tedious and long priming - chipboard absorbs glue like a sponge.

We heat the edge attached to the end of the part and press it with an ordinary iron. The iron regulator is set to about 3/4 power. We recommend buying a little more edge and practicing on scraps - if you are doing this for the first time.

Further, while the edge has not cooled down, we iron it along the entire length with a dry cloth in order to better glue the edges. We carefully cut off the excess with a knife and process the edges with fine-grained sandpaper - without fanaticism: we do not scratch the laminate and do not make huge chamfers.

Preparing to assemble the table

Back wall and the shelves of the table are located between the sidewalls and are drilled only at the ends. The sidewalls for the shelves and the back wall are drilled into the plane, and for fastening to the base and countertop - into the ends. The back wall is pulled together with the sidewalls and with horizontal planes.

Since all ties are carried out on confirmations, we drill as follows:

  • In the plane - a through hole with a diameter of 8 mm.
  • At the ends - a diameter of 5 mm to a depth of approximately 60 mm.

Attention! The assembled cabinet is 10 mm narrower than the width of the countertop. This is done in order to give space to the coverage of the decorative piping. Do not miss this moment when marking the countertop and base. The distance from the edge is not 9 mm, but 14 mm.

Bedside table assembly

A hex bit will significantly speed up the screed process, but you can also use a regular crooked key - the main thing is not to forget to buy it. We fasten the supports to the assembled table, spreading them as far as possible to the edges - for stability.

We glue the edge “stretched” onto the usual “Moment”, only fix the ends with quick-drying superglue.

We snap the hats of confirmers with plugs - and the bedside table is ready. It is convenient both for a lazy Sunday meal and as a stand for a laptop - if you prefer to work or watch movies from the Internet in a semi-horizontal position.

Bedside table ready

Now you know exactly how to make a bedside table yourself, it remains only to persuade your wife to serve you something romantic at least once.

Everyone needs a bedside table, I can’t imagine how to live without it. Nowadays, there is a huge selection of cabinets, but what if you didn’t like everything that you saw in the store, but you want exactly what you can’t buy on the market.
This is a great opportunity to make a cabinet with your own hands. There are cabinets different sizes in width, height and depth, color and material.
The usual width of the bedside table is 500mm, the recommended depth of the bedside table is 300-350mm, and the height of the bedside table should be made according to the height of your bed.
How to make a bedside table with your own hands? Everything is very simple!

The material from which bedside tables are made can be different, but most often it is wood or chipboard saw (chipboard). In our example, consider the assembly of a bedside table made of 16 mm chipboard.
We have a cabinet with drawers, which is a little more difficult to manufacture than a simple version with one door and a shelf in the middle.
Any project begins with calculations on a sheet of paper and a drawing of the future product.

And so after all the blanks we have made, we need melamine or PVC edging the ends of our parts, which will be visible when looking at the assembled product.
Why is it not necessary to hem the entire perimeter of the part, this is an extra waste of material and your time, for example, there is only one hem at the shelf front side, since the sides and back are closed by the walls of the pedestal body.

The most important thing when assembling the bedside table is not to leave protruding bolts, you should make recesses with a drill with a diameter of 9 mm so that the head of the wood screw sinks a little inward and can be sealed with a PVC plug.

If you look closely, then a gap of 16 mm is left on each side for the side racks of the cabinet.

The racks of the nightstands themselves, they are attached to decorative frame and the base of the pedestal, we close all the places for self-tapping screws with special plugs.

Ready cabinet, but without a drawer.

Install drawer guides

If you already have a bedside table, and you need to update the nightstand with your own hands?
Step one: I recommend taking it apart carefully.
Step two: iron to go over the melamine edge, for further removal.
important: As a rule, edges and ends wear out in pedestals, budget way to update a nightstand is to remove the old edge and stick a new one, you can even use a different color. It will look very interesting.
Step three: the removal of the edge occurs by smoothing the edges with a hot iron, the glue acquires liquid form and can be easily dismantled without damaging the workpiece.
Step four: clean up chipboard ends from glue.
