How to properly install cabinet door hinges. Installation of sliding doors in the closet

Before you install the doors in the wardrobe, you need to familiarize yourself in detail with the features and nuances of this process. In general, there is nothing complicated here, and even the person who is inexperienced in such matters will cope with the task. Busy people prefer to buy sliding wardrobe doors and invite a specialist to install it into the house. However, if you carefully study the process, then all the work on installing the structure can be done by hand.

Device and principle of operation sliding doors sliding wardrobe

In order to carry out the process of installing a sliding structure in a cabinet without stops and difficulties, you need to stock up on materials, as well as tools that will help you get the job done. The materials and tools are as follows:

  1. Profiles that are guides.
  2. Retainer.
  3. buffer tape.
  4. Door regulator.
  5. Framing from the selected material.
  6. The main material of the door.
  7. Rollers with which the door will move.
  8. Screws.
  9. Screwdriver.
  10. Fasteners of the selected type.
  11. Metal corners for reinforcing profiles at joints.
  12. Drill.

These are the basic materials and tools that will be required for self installation doors. At individual projects additional items may be needed.

Name of sliding door design elements

Benefits of sliding doors

Retractable sliding doors in wardrobes most often become the choice of the owners of apartments or houses. This is not surprising, because such structures have a lot of advantages:

These are just some of the advantages that indicate that it is right to make sliding closet compartment doors.

Door assembly sequence

In order for the position of the doors to be correct, it is necessary to carry out the process in the correct order. This is easy to do if you follow this sequence of work:

When preparatory work completed, then you should proceed to the calculation, assembly and installation of the doors themselves. For this you need:

  1. Calculate Size sliding structures.
  2. Make a frame for future door.
  3. Carry out the filling of the door.

After filling the door with the selected material, the work can be considered completed.

Fastening the guide at the top of the structure

To install the profile, we drill holes with a drill with a diameter of 4 mm. The distance from one hole to another should be no more than 300 mm. Holes should be made on the profile and on the surface of the upper part of the opening structure in which the doors will be installed.

Drawing of the device and fastening of the upper rail and door

When the process is completed, you should align the profile on the surface and fix it with the selected fasteners. Usually these choices are:

Fastening the guide at the bottom of the structure

As with fixing the upper beam of the profile, holes must also be made on the profile that will be attached below. In order for the integration of the closet door to be durable, it is necessary to choose a high-quality lower profile, because it is on it that the maximum load is applied.
Despite the fact that the top and bottom profiles are installed perpendicular to each other, the bottom beam is not immediately fixed with fasteners. First you need to insert the door between the upper and lower profile, holding the lower part, since it is not yet fixed to the base of the structure at this stage.

Upper and lower mounts sliding door

It is necessary to determine how exactly the door is located. This is done using building level. At this stage of work, you will need an assistant who will hold the filler until the guides of the wardrobe doors are evenly installed. The lower profile is attached to the structure after the retainer is installed.

Retainer installation

The latch latch is an element that fixes the position of the doors in closed holding the structure in place. The latch ensures that there are no gaps between the two parts of the door and the side wall.
The latch is attached inside the lower profile, firmly inserted into it. One latch is required for each door. In addition to holding the doors in place, these elements allow you to adjust the opening width of the door structures. That is, they are a kind of stopper.

The place where the latch should be is measured by determining the location of the outer wheel of the door. When the door is completely closed, you need to put a mark on the profile with a special marker or other improvised tool in the middle of the wheel roller. The center of the latch is the mark on the profile.

Door adjustment

When the stoppers of the limiters are installed, you can begin to adjust the location of the door structures. This is not difficult to do. Sliding door wheels are designed in such a way that with the help of a built-in screw it is possible to adjust the uniformity and tightness of the doors to the side of the door structure and to the upper and lower parts.

Hole for adjusting the door

Useful for work special key with hexagonal design. The key diameter must be 4 mm.

Mounting the buffer tape in the structure

This element, when designing doors, protects the inside of the cabinet itself from dust penetrating into its space.

Also, the buffer tape allows you to extend the durability of the cabinet doors. At the moment of opening and closing the sliding structure, the buffer tape softens the blows, protecting the coating from breakage and cracks.

Mounting buffer tape carried out at the moment when you are sure that the door rollers are correctly fixed. Because the tape blocks access to the screws that allow you to adjust the position of the cabinet.

Buffer tapes are of two types:

  1. In which the pile is short (maximum 6 mm).
  2. Which have a long pile (maximum 12 mm).

Usually the choice falls on tapes with a pile of up to 6 mm, because it is budgetary. However, a tape with long pile. But the whole selection process is solely the business of the owners of the apartment or house.

Buffer Tape Attachment Process

Fixing is elementary and will not cause difficulties. It is enough just to peel off the film from the tape and attach it to the ends of the side walls in vertical position. Color solution selected in accordance with colors the whole structure.

The procedure for calculating the size of door structures

When the attachment point around the perimeter is prepared for further work, you can start measuring the dimensions of the future door. To understand the total amount of the perimeter, you need to measure the horizontal bar on the right and left sides. And also measure the vertical bar over the entire surface. This will help you understand overall size designs. However, the measurement process does not end there.

Drawing and calculation of the dimensions of sliding doors in the closet

Let's assume that the size of the wings in height is 2 meters, and the width measured along the bottom rail is 2.4 m. We use these data and calculate the required width and height of the door panels. See the video for step-by-step instructions for installing a door in a wardrobe.

Width

When calculating the width, it is necessary to take into account the thickness of the side walls. Usually it is 16 mm. Thus, the size is measured by the following formula:
2400 mm - (16+16 mm)=2368 mm
But the calculation does not end there. It is also necessary to calculate the distance of the parts of the door overlapping each other. For example, the gap will be 20 cm for each door. The formula will be:
2368 mm + (200+200 mm) = 1968 mm
If there are two doors, then you need to divide the resulting number by two.
1968/2=984 mm

Diagram of the device of the sliding doors of the cabinet

This is the width of each of the doors. Similarly, calculations are carried out if three or four doors should be located in the structure. Only in this case, the gap should be added as many times as there will be sliding structures.

Height

The assumed height of the cabinet structure is 2 m. The height adjustment of the sashes must also be calculated according to the formula. When making calculations, it should be taken into account that 15 mm must be subtracted from above and below (this is the width of the cabinet walls), and also, subtract 15 mm from above and below (this is the gap formed by the supporting lower and upper profiles). Therefore, the formula is the following:
2 thousand mm - (15 + 15 mm) - (15 + 15 mm) \u003d 1940 mm

Drawing with wardrobe dimensions

Sliding door calculation process

Having made calculations, it can be understood that the size of one door is 1940 mm high and 984 mm wide. Based on the measurements, you can proceed to the order finished structures or self-assembly.

Framing elements preparation

When the size of the sliding door structures is known, you can begin to design the frame, where chipboard or mirrors and glass should be located. It all depends on the chosen content.
To assemble the frame, you need the following items:

Sequencing:

In horizontal profiles, it is necessary to mark the places of attachment to the sliding wardrobe profile. When all the marks are placed, you need to start drilling holes. This process should be given special attention, because the integrity of the structure and the beauty of the furniture as a whole depend on it.

Framing assembly

When all the details are prepared, you should start assembling the structure. To do this, the elements are combined with a coupling screw.

Before fixing the parts, you should check the positioning of each profile with a level.

They must be even and accurate, otherwise the door leaf simply will not fall into place.

Wheel mounting process

It is necessary to install the wheels on the lower profile. The screws are deepened into the rollers, which are then screwed in and align the position of the doors.

Filling installation

When the frame is assembled, then the matter remains small. It will only be necessary to insert the filling into the already installed frame. Assembly instructions are simple. A rubber seal is stretched along the perimeter of the sliding door leaf. The frames tightening the self-tapping screws are untwisted, and a sheet of the selected material is inserted into the profile connector. Then the tightening screws are tightened again.

The process of installing the rubber seal

After this step, the process of installing doors in a closet can be considered complete. It remains only to decorate the surface with the desired elements and fully enjoy the functionality of the piece of furniture.

Selection of fasteners for wooden doors

The modern furniture market offers a wide variety of types of hinges for furniture. This can include both four-hinged hinges, and simply articulated ones, used since Soviet times. Today, even modern furniture hinges sometimes cannot serve as a substitute for those types of door fittings that were produced during the Soviet era, despite their high level of quality.

Let us consider in more detail all types of furniture hinges that exist at the moment. Universal four-hinged fasteners for cabinet doors are able to withstand significant loads, having a large margin of safety. They can be installed on doors whose opening angle is in the range of 90-165°. They can be adjusted in 3 different planes.

The hardware for furniture doors includes 2 elements. The first of these is the hinge itself, which is attached to the door, and the second is the mounting plate, fixed to the side wall of the products, connected to the hinge installed on the cabinet door.

There are 4 varieties of four-hinged hinges used in furniture production, each of which should be used depending on the types of cabinet door fasteners.

  1. An invoice used if the door must cover the sides of the niche in which it is located.
  2. Semi-applied hinge used when overlaying 2 doors on the same sidewall.
  3. Internal (used for internal fastening of the cabinet door), which is located inside the niche sidewall, and does not close it.
  4. Hinge used to fasten the door at a 45° angle. This type of hinge is used to fasten doors corner pedestals or cabinets.

Before buying fasteners for cabinet doors, you should definitely clarify the type of furniture fittings offered by the seller. It must be borne in mind that the four-hinged types of hinges are fixed with 4 * 16 screws to the side walls of the cabinet. The mounting cup should have a diameter of 26 mm. The holes should have the same diameter.

Options for glass doors

Specially produced cabinet hinges with glass doors are reliable when used. At the same time, the collected ready product will look very nice. Using four-hinged types of hinges for glass doors, they can be mounted at different angles.

The use of furniture hinges for glass cabinet doors allows them to be adjusted in 3 different planes.

With other types of loops, such manipulations are impossible. The only drawback of such hinges is the need to make all the holes for fastening at home, which is a certain difficulty.

The design of furniture hinges for glass cabinet doors includes 4 elements:

  • mounting plate, fixed on the sidewall of the product;
  • a loop;
  • sealing rings for connecting glass and hinges;
  • a plug that allows you to hide the loop from the outside.

The choice of the shape of the rings and plugs will not affect the strength of the connection as a whole.

There are piano hinges for furniture that have a simple mechanism that is not very reliable. The composition of such loops includes identical tapes of brass or steel, interconnected in the middle by steel wire. This type hinges are mainly used in the assembly of kitchen furniture, for which the use of other types of furniture hinges is not acceptable.

In the absence of the possibility of purchasing four-hinged glass hinges or the impossibility of installing them, you should pay attention to conventional hinged hinges for glass doors. They include 2 types of elements, the first of which is the hinge itself, and the second is plastic seals, fixed into the hole for the hinge and onto the glass.

Alignment and adjustment

If there is a need to strengthen and, which may be due to their breakdown or displacement during the move, then this is not difficult to do if you have certain ideas about how to do it correctly.

First you need to understand the problem that has arisen. Only after that proceed to the troubleshooting step with the installation of loops. Basically, it may be necessary to carry out the adjustment of the hinges. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the angle at which the cabinet door opens.

A door closing failure occurs when the hinges begin to "pull" the cabinet door, which can also happen when using piano hinges. The fastening of the dish hinge must be precise, and the furniture hinge must be attached to the inside side of the cabinet.

For fastening you will need:

  • furniture hinge with hinges;
  • annular drill with a pointed tip;
  • mounting plate;
  • screws.

The pointed tip of the core drill is used as a center guide and the knives are needed to mill the cup hole. A conventional poppet joint has a diameter of 35 mm, so purchasing a core drill for accurate and uniform milling is a must in the first place.

Before leveling the cabinet door, determine its exact location. Small gaps should be provided at the top and bottom of the door, which are necessary so that the doors can open and close freely. Holes for screws are placed in the presence of templates. Then a plate-shaped hole is made to the required depth, and the mounting plate is fixed. After the door is leveled, the screw should be fixed.

The cabinet door is adjusted on the basis of the furniture hinge tape lever, which is equipped with 3 screws. The hinge is adjusted using the middle screw, which allows you to move the cabinet door simultaneously in 3 different planes.

On the modern market furniture fittings presented a large number of types of furniture hinges. In modern furniture production, four-hinged modifications are most often used, which are improved hinge hinges from the times of the USSR. Of course, much more reliable and better than its predecessors. Today, the choice of components for the manufacture of furniture is quite extensive.

Let's see what types of hinges are used today by furniture makers in the manufacture of furniture.

The most commonly used hinges are overhead hinges, which are used mainly for attaching facades (doors) to the furniture body. There are also semi-overlay hinges, internal, corner, with closers, spring, etc.

Today we will consider the installation of an overhead-type furniture hinge. I would like to note that the installation of all other types of canopies will be similar.

First, you need to figure out what parts the loop consists of. First of all, this is the mounting plate and the mechanism itself. The fastener bar should be mounted to the inside of the case, the loop - on the facade in a special hole, which must be made deaf, with a depth of twelve to thirteen millimeters.

The diameter of the hole depends on the type of loop, and can be twenty-six or thirty-five millimeters.

Canopies with a bowl of twenty-six millimeters are used extremely rarely.

Furniture makers use them only in cases where it is necessary to attach the facade to the module in which it is placed washing machine(non-embedded). This is due to the fact that the gap for attaching the loop in this case is very small, and it is not possible to attach a standard canopy.

In order to carry out the installation of furniture hinges, you will need the following tool:

  • screwdriver;
  • pencil;
  • screwdriver;
  • roulette;
  • awl;
  • self-tapping screws 4 * 16 mm;
  • end mill 35 mm.

Working process

Marking furniture hinges

To begin with, it is necessary to mark the centers of future holes. Because all doors are different height and the intended installation site, the indicators for each option will vary from seventy to one hundred and twenty millimeters. Another point: depending on the weight of the door and its size, three or more canopies can be installed.

When installing three or more hinges on the same front, make sure that the hinge does not end up on the horizontal inner parts of the cabinet (for example, shelves, drawer ends, etc.). Make a mark for the hole at a distance of twenty-two millimeters from the end of the door.

Drilling a hole for the bowl

Armed with a screwdriver and a 35 mm end mill, start drilling. Basically, the depth of the bowls is twelve to thirteen millimeters. You should not try to drill deeper, because chipboard, which has a thickness of only 16 millimeters, does not always have high-quality outer layers of the laminate. If you drill a little larger hole, there is a risk of damage to these layers, which, alas, cannot be masked or corrected.

It is recommended to use a well-ground cutter, with which it will not be possible to damage the surface or make chips. Also, in order to avoid chips, the screwdriver should be held strictly vertically.

Installation of overhead loops. Insert the loop into the resulting hole, align it with the end of the facade.

Make marks for self-tapping screws with an awl. Then screw them into the holes.

Facade hanging

On the side inside body, attach the platform for attaching the loop. Connect the two parts of the canopy. Adjust the front to the body with a screwdriver.

It is very convenient to do this NOT on weight, but just on flat surface in horizontal position. Those. the sidewall on which you need to attach the hinge pad should be in a horizontal position, so you can easily try on and screw the facade to the sidewall.

Furniture hinge adjustment

As for the adjustment of furniture hinges, it can be carried out in three planes: vertically, in depth and fixing the canopy, horizontally.

1. Adjusting the hinges in depth and fixing the canopy, first of all, is necessary in order to press the facade closer to the body, or, conversely, to loosen this pressure. Use a screwdriver to tighten the oval hole. Very often, thus, adjust the hinges in a room with uneven floors.

2. Vertical adjustment allows you to move the door up or down. Since facades, like everything else, are affected by gravity, they can, over time, sag. It is necessary to make such adjustment of the canopies from time to time. It is performed by the same twisting of the oval holes.

3. Horizontal adjustment. In other words, it is lateral adjustment. Due to it, gaps between the facades and the body part can be avoided. This method is also good if the room has uneven floors or walls.

Well, now you know all about the mount furniture hinges on the furniture facade. We hope that our instruction will help you avoid the most common mistakes when installing furniture hinges yourself.

For fastening and further operation of doors in furniture production, they use different types loops. If you bought a wardrobe and decided to assemble it yourself, then you cannot avoid the process of installing doors on furniture hinges.

Figure 1. Furniture hinge device

On the modern furniture market, there are different kinds door hinges, which include both four-hinged hinges and simply hinged ones, which were very popular back in Soviet times. Today, four-hinged hinges are very popular, which are simple and robust design as well as easy installation. They possess high level durability, which provides an unlimited number of working cycles of opening and closing. Another significant advantage of this mechanism is the ability to adjust it in 3 planes, which will allow you to align the cabinet doors without any problems.

The four-hinged loop consists of the following elements (Fig. 1):

  • Cup;
  • shoulder;
  • mounting (reciprocal) level.

The hinge is fixed to the furniture box mounting plate, and a cup - to the door. Self-tapping screws are used as fasteners. The shoulder plays the role of a lever and connects the cup to the striker plate using a four-hinged device. An adjusting screw is located in the cover of the bar, with which you can adjust the position of the door relative to the base.

According to the method of applying the sash to the body, the hinges are divided into:

  1. Overhead. They are used when the door closes the sides of the niche in which it is placed. This method of fastening doors is the most popular, so it can be found on almost any furniture set.
  2. Semi overhead. They are used when 2 doors enter the same sidewall of a furniture product. Hinges of this type differ from the rest by a slight bend in the base, which provides a small distance between the two facades.
  3. Internal. They are used in the case of internal fastening of the facade, that is, the door does not close the sides of the niche in which it is located, but is located inside it. The base of such hinges has a pronounced bend.
  4. Corner. With the help of such mechanisms, it is possible to fix the doors at a certain angle.

Preparatory work

to install furniture hinge on the cabinet with your own hands, you need to prepare tools such as:

Figure 2. Marking the loop

  • screwdriver;
  • end mill with a diameter of 35 mm;
  • ruler;
  • building level;
  • awl;
  • pencil;
  • self-tapping screws - 3.5x16 or 4x16 mm, 2 pcs. for 1 loop.

After preparing the tool, marking is made, which consists in marking the center of each hole for the hinges. Depending on the height of the door, as well as on the placement of the shelves in height, about 7-12 cm recede from the edge of the facade. If the door has large dimensions, then it is necessary to use not 2 hinges, but 3 or more. In this case, the step between the canopies should be at least 50 cm. The dependence of the number of loops on the height and weight of the facade is presented in the table.

After marking in height, the centers of the holes are marked from the edges in width. For standard door hinge the indentation from the edge should be approximately 21-22 mm (Fig. 2). When marking, it is necessary to ensure that after mounting the hinges they do not come into contact with the shelves of the cabinet, because this will interfere with the normal functioning of the door.

Not having time to appear on the world market, sliding wardrobes have gained immense popularity both among residents of megacities and small settlements. According to statistics, sliding wardrobes have consistently held one of the leading positions in the list of all furniture sales for many years. Modern design wardrobe is an uncomplicated, combined system, which allows not only to rationally save living space, but also quite favorably emphasize individual characteristics any interior. Sliding wardrobe doors and the possibility of its installation in any, even small apartment, are considered the main advantages of such models. With the help of a sliding wardrobe, you can decorate the interior design, create your own original style, visually enlarge the room.

Proper assembly of the wardrobe is a guarantee of durable and trouble-free operation of the entire structure. In this case, the perfect installation of sliding wardrobe doors is of paramount importance. If you follow certain recommendations regarding the assembly of the product, then the installation given element cabinet furniture will not take much time and effort. Later in the article, there will be detailed instructions regarding the self-installation of wardrobe doors - compartments.

Assembly preparation

To assemble sliding cabinet doors, the following components must be available:

  • Upper and lower guide profiles (rails). It is the main mechanism that sets the door leaf in motion. Depending on the configuration of the sliding doors, there are lower and upper rails.
  • Stoppers and restraints. With their help door structure smoothly moves along the guide profile and is fixed at a given point.
  • Closers. These mechanisms provide the sliding movement of the door.

Tools needed for self-installation of wardrobe doors:

  • a set of cross-shaped and straight screwdrivers;
  • building level;
  • imbus key;
  • cord plumb;
  • hammer;
  • pliers;
  • drill or screwdriver;
  • stationery knife;
  • roulette;
  • drill for metal (Ø 4 mm).

The process of assembling sliding wardrobe doors

The assembly of doors of any design begins only after the final completion of the installation of the cabinet itself. In this case, the door leaf must be exactly level.

To install the sliding wardrobe doors, it is necessary to accurately measure the width of the internal opening of the cabinet at the installation site of the upper guide rail and subtract 1–2 mm from the obtained value. To trim the profile, a construction ruler (gon) is taken and the edges of the cut are drawn along the perimeter of the guide line. You can remove excess material with a hacksaw or grinder.

During the execution of work, special care and accuracy are required, since the guides can be damaged quite easily.

  • To mount the upper guide profile, you need to drill holes for screws or self-tapping screws. Holes for screws and screws are drilled in the same parallel at equal intervals of 45–60 cm. To avoid mechanical damage to the profile, it is better to use any convenient support for drilling holes (table, chair, stool, etc.). Finished holes are carefully polished with sanding paper.

  • The prepared guide rail is installed in the upper opening of the wardrobe and fixed with screws.
  • Holes for screws are drilled in the lower profile. There must be a stopper at each end of the guide rail. Installing a stopper is necessary to fix the door leaf in the closed position. Installation of the latch (stopper) must be carried out with right side. For the right door leaf - in the recess on the right, for the left - in the recess on the left. Then the lower profile is inserted into the wardrobe and attached to its bottom.
  • At the next stage of installation, the sliding wardrobe door is put in place. Upper door rollers are carefully inserted into the upper profile, and the lower door wheels are inserted into the recess of the lower guide profile.

  • After the final installation of the doors in place, they must be adjusted relative to each side surface of the wardrobe. You need to adjust the special wheels located on both sides at the bottom of the door leaf. On the left side surface of the cabinet, the left door leaf is adjusted, and on right side- right. When adjusting, the doors must be in the closed position.
  • The bottom guide rail may only be fastened if it is absolutely certain that door leafs aligned correctly (parallel and vertical).
  • The lower profile should be fixed to the bottom of the cabinet with screws or self-tapping screws.
  • To weaken the impacts that occur during the closing and opening of sliding doors, it is advisable to stick a special rubber pad on each door.
  • At the end of installation, you need to adjust the position of the stoppers. The stoppers should be adjusted so that when the rollers (wheels) get into them, the closet door can remain in a tightly closed position.

If you strictly follow all the tips regarding the installation of sliding wardrobe doors, then the installation procedure will not only not deliver you extra hassle, but also develop into an exciting and exciting process.
