The ridge on the roof is the crown of the house. Ridge on the roof from corrugated board: device and features of fastening ridge strips to the profiled sheet Ridge element for corrugated board dimensions

Metal corrugated board is a sought-after material for roofing, which differs affordable price, ease of installation and high wear resistance. Such a wide popularity of this material today is due to the fact that corrugated board does not require additional processing, has a small mass and is easy to cut. Do-it-yourself installation of corrugated roofing does not require special building skills or expensive tools.

In general, do-it-yourself corrugated roofing is done quite quickly. This material supplied as profiled steel sheets with zinc galvanized and polymer coated. In case of violation of the protective layer ( deep scratches, open cut lines) future roofing will be subject to corrosion and premature wear. That is why, when installing the roof, you should be careful, work in shoes with soft soles and do not leave cut lines open for natural precipitation.

The corrugated board for the roof is attached to a wooden crate. For this, well-dried boards treated with antiseptic compounds are used. You can also use steel girders. At the same time, the height of the corrugation of the sheet should be at least 4 cm. If the roof slope is small, it is advisable to buy corrugated board, the length of which exceeds the dimensions of the slope. In this case, the transverse joints of the sheets will be excluded, and the moisture resistance of the roof will increase.

Rice. 1 - Installation of corrugated board with an overlap

  • Ng - the size of the horizontal overlap;
  • Ks - the size of the cornice overhang.

When the length of the roof slope exceeds maximum dimensions corrugated sheet, the material must be mounted from the bottom corner in a horizontal direction. Thus, the top sheet will overlap the bottom sheet, eliminating leakage during rain. The size of the horizontal overlap is selected taking into account the angle of inclination of the slope (see table 1).

How to fix corrugated board: selection of hardware, installation technology.

When installing the corrugated board with your own hands, it is initially necessary to align the first sheet along the end, leaving the calculated eaves overhang. The corrugated board is fastened with self-tapping screws with a sealing washer installed at the ridge. The next sheet is overlapped and aligned horizontally with the first. Further, the roofing sheets are fastened together with self-tapping screws with sealing pads. After fastening several sheets, the corrugated board is aligned along the cornice line, attached to the crate, after which the next horizontal row is mounted.

The corrugated board is attached to the crate at the bottom of the corrugation, as shown in Figure 2, and the ridge is fixed through the upper ridge. The length of the screw (L) varies depending on the height of the ridge of the material and is calculated using the following formula:

L = H + L1 + L2,

  • where L is the length of the hardware (self-tapping screw), mm;
  • L1 - the length of the part of the profile that cuts into the crate (approximately 25 - 30 mm), mm;
  • H – sheet profile height, mm;
  • L2 is the total thickness of the washer and seal (about 4 mm), mm.

Rice. 2 - Installation of corrugated board on the crate.

When installing several sheets of corrugated roofing, it is recommended to treat the overlaps with silicone or thiocon sealants to prevent roof leaks. The use of welding or gas cutting to work with corrugated board is prohibited. It is also not recommended to use nails for fastening, because. with gusts of wind, a sheet of corrugated board can come off. Fastening one square of corrugated board usually requires 5 - 7 fasteners (self-tapping screws).

Waterproofing and vapor barrier of corrugated roofing.

To ensure the necessary tightness, do-it-yourself installation of a roof from corrugated board provides for the implementation waterproofing works. To do this, a vapor barrier film is laid in horizontal rows from the bottom of the eaves towards the ridge. In general, corrugated roof waterproofing avoids the following problems: condensation, premature wear of the crate, leaks, freezing and mold.

Rice. 3 - Roof waterproofing from corrugated board.

When laying vapor barrier film several rows, it is necessary to take into account the allowance for sagging (about 20 mm) and the overlap of sheets (100 - 150 mm). To ensure a tight connection of the rows, the joints are glued with a special mounting tape.

Rice. 4 - Installation of waterproofing under the crate.

  1. rafter leg;
  2. vapor-permeable film for waterproofing;
  3. counterlattice;
  4. crate.

In non-residential buildings for roof waterproofing, roofing felt, glassine or roofing material can be used. When installing a roof from corrugated board, there must be ventilation gaps between the crate or ridge and waterproofing material, as well as between the seal and the ridge (see Fig. 4). For residential buildings, insulated corrugated roofing is used.

Rice. 5 - Scheme of the insulated roof.

  1. crate;
  2. corrugated board;
  3. sealant;
  4. roofing ridge;
  5. waterproofing material;
  6. rafter plank;
  7. rafter leg;
  8. insulation layer;
  9. vapor barrier material;
  10. ceiling rail;
  11. finishing material(lining, drywall);
  12. a - a gap for under-roof ventilation;
  13. b - the gap between the waterproofing and the seal for ventilation.

Installation of the crate and installation of corrugated board.

After laying the waterproofing, the rafters and battens are fixed. The step of the lathing and the type of corrugated board is selected taking into account the angle of inclination of the roof. The necessary data for the installation of corrugated board with your own hands, see the table below. 3.
To protect the roof from drafts and wind between the pediment and the edge of the roof, it is necessary to install wind strips. The strips are fixed with self-tapping screws with an interval of 200 - 300 mm. The overlap of the plank on the pediment is 100 - 150 mm.

Rice. 6 - Installation of a wind strip to protect the roof from corrugated board.

  1. wind bar;
  2. self-tapping screws with galvanized anti-corrosion coating.

To seal the joints between the slope and the wall, corner strips. They are fastened with self-tapping screws with an interval of 200 - 300 mm. The minimum overlap of the plank on the roofing must be 200 mm, while the overlap on the wall must be 150 mm. The scheme of fastening the corner and transverse slope to the wall is shown in Figures 7 and 8.

Rice. 7 - Fastening the corner slope to the wall.

Rice. 8 - Fastening the transverse slope to the wall.

Installation of a ridge on a corrugated roof.

In general, do-it-yourself roofing from corrugated board is quite easy to install. The final stage after installing the crate, laying waterproofing and roofing is mounting a skate. The roof ridge performs both aesthetic and protective functions at the same time, closing the gap at the junction of roofing materials in the upper part of the roof. For corrugated roofing, you can choose a simple, figured or tiled ridge. It must be installed from the leeward side, i.e. from the side of the roof, where there are smaller gusts of wind.

Installation of a ridge for roofing from corrugated board is carried out on the upper edge of the roof in the upper crest of the profiled sheet. For this, galvanized self-tapping screws are used, the interval between which is about 200 - 300 mm. If several tile skates are used, then the overlap of one on the other should be 150 - 200 mm.

Rice. 9 - Installation of the ridge on the roof of corrugated board.

To increase the waterproofing performance of the roof and ensure the tightness of the joints, a sealing gasket must be placed between the ridge element and the roofing material. At the same time, a small ventilation gap should remain between the ridge and the seal. The end parts of the ridge must also be closed with plugs (see Fig. 10).

Rice. 10 - Ridge for corrugated roofing.

Quality roofing for your home reliable protection from leakage and destruction, which will primarily provide coziness and comfort.

Steel is one of the most durable and durable materials, but its only drawback, as a roofing material, was its weight. The totality of heavy sheets in total gave a huge mass, which negatively affected the roofing frame. The problem that arose was solved by the corrugation method steel sheet, which, having a small weight in relation to size, retained its strong and rigid qualities due to the trapezoidal profile design - this is how corrugated board arose.

He for several recent years gained great popularity due to practicality in use, as well as minimal harm to the environment.

Decking - what is it, its pros and cons

Profiled flooring is produced by cold rolling from hot-rolled steel sheet. During production, it is treated with several layers of protection to increase strength and durability. At the initial stage, the workpiece is treated with anti-corrosion phosphate and only then it is primed. Top part the sheet is covered with a mixture of polymers, and the bottom - with a special varnish.

Thanks to the work done, the result is durable material High Quality, which combines much more pluses than negative qualities.

  1. Service life of the material;
  2. Competitive price with other types of roofing materials;
  3. Material weight;
  4. Simplicity and time saving during installation and dismantling;
  5. Resistant to temperature changes.

The disadvantage of corrugated roofing is low level noise reduction, due to which the sound insulation deteriorates significantly.

Types of corrugated board

The widespread use of corrugated board and not only in roofing has divided all its types into three classes:

  1. H - for coatings and ceilings, as well as fixed formwork(the best roofing material). Additional stiffening ribs, corrugation thickness and height make it the most reliable and durable option.
  2. C - for fencing fences and walls. This option is much cheaper than the previous one. The thickness of the sheet is less, respectively, the service life and reliability are significantly inferior.
  3. HC - combined corrugated board. The brand is also often used in roofing works ah, but in most cases for an unloaded roof. It all depends on the angle of the roof slope, which is an important factor in winter. A thin sheet of steel and a flatter roof structure can be fatal under snow pressure.

Roof slope

For proper styling corrugated board, it is necessary first of all to take into account the slope of the roof. This will help calculate the desired overlap with the adjacent sheet.

  • When the roof slope is less than 15° or more than 12°, the overlap of sheets must be at least 20 cm;
  • In cases of inclination angle 15°-30° - from 15 to 20 cm;
  • The slope of the roof above 30 ° allows you to reduce the overlap to 10-15 cm;
  • A slope angle less than 12° requires additional work for sealing overlaps using silicone sealant.

Preparatory work

Before the laying process itself, it is worth carefully and correctly calculating the amount of roofing material and its type. You can do this yourself or use the service of a company whose manager will help you.

  1. During transportation and loading, avoid strong bends, and also ensure flat surface vehicle that will carry the material.
  2. Manual unloading provides for every 2 m of length of one worker. When using lifting equipment, it is necessary to use soft slings.
  3. Transportation to the roof is carried out using a log to connect the edge and the ground, not exceeding the norm in one sheet.

AT without fail you will need such a tool as: a tape measure, a hammer, a hacksaw, a cord, a rail, a drill and drills.

Waterproofing and ventilation

Moisture released from the premises of the house always collects under the roof. To prevent this, it is necessary to organize the roof in such a way that the temperature outside and under the roof are the same. To achieve this goal, you need to take care of the correct vapor and thermal insulation, as well as ventilation.

Waterproofing is most often mounted before fastening sheets of corrugated board to the crate.

where 1 - rafter leg; 2- waterproofing; 3- truss slats (bar konrobreshetki); 4 - crate.

Advice from the pros: waterproofing film install in such a way that it hangs slightly, by about 20 mm, in a position perpendicular to the roof slope. Installation should begin from the lower edge of the roof to the ridge. Its overlap, sealed with adhesive tape, should be 100-150 mm.

The method of laying the film on the rafters:

To ensure the most efficient movement of air flow from the eaves under the crest of the roof, organize ventilation holes between the ridge batten and the roofing sheets. In places where air flow is difficult, it is necessary to do more additional channels for ventilation. However, the most in a simple way is the placement of wooden slats directly on the waterproofing layer.

Rafter strips and lathing

Rafter strips or steel girders are mounted on top of the hydro and vapor barrier if the profile height becomes 40 mm. Further, a crate is attached to them in the longitudinal direction, the step of which depends on the type of corrugated board.

To organize the crate you will need:

  • beam size 50x50 mm;
  • board 32x10 mm;
  • moisture resistant plywood sheets with a diameter of 10 mm.

The crate is of two types: solid and thinned. The first type is installed on the ribs, skates and around chimneys. The thinned pitch is 50 mm. Lay the boards at the same distance, this will facilitate the entire further process of fastening corrugated sheets.

All wooden details be sure to treat with an antiseptic and fire-fighting mixture.

Experts advise laying a so-called diffusion gasket on top of the crate, which will prevent the formation of condensate. It is fastened with small nails with a wide hat.

The arrangement of the crate should be taken with special responsibility, since the reliability of the entire structure largely depends on it.

There are also no exact standards for the thickness of the crate, it all depends on the same parameters of the profiled sheets and the length of the fasteners. Minimum dimensions cross-sections of the lathing become 32/100 mm. The board that is located along the eaves should be a little thicker than all the others. Near the chimney, it is necessary to organize the fastening of additional boards.

Eaves overhang

Lay the bottom row on the crate roofing sheeting, thus forming a cornice overhang. Its dimensions completely depend on the height of the profile sheet.

However, initially it is necessary to take care of the cornice strip, which must be organized below the waterproofing layer. This is necessary in order to wastewater and the resulting condensate fell into the eaves, along which they flowed into the catchment area, and then along drainpipe. Otherwise, water will flow down the walls of the house, which will cause negative consequences.

Installation of corrugated board

It should be noted right away that the installation of corrugated sheets should be carried out strictly according to the instructions.

Cutting of corrugated board

Of course, it is better to purchase sheets of corrugated board on the market that match the size of the roof, but often these two parameters do not match, so you need to know how to cut correctly and which tool is best to use for this.

The adjustment of the material must be carried out on a flat plane, for example, on the ground.

For these purposes, you can use various instruments, however it is best to use electrical devices like a drill with a disc nozzle. If you could not get such a tool, then you will have to cut it manually with steel-based metal shears or a hacksaw with fine teeth.

It is forbidden to use mechanisms with an abrasive cutting working disk, for example, a grinder, to cut sheets of corrugated board. The reason is that such devices emit relatively large heat energy during operation, which negatively affects performance material.

When cutting roofing material, the edges will not be without damage, so you need to take care of the paint in the color of the corrugated sheets in advance.

We raise sheets of corrugated board to the roof

During the lifting of the roofing corrugated board to the roof, difficulties often arise due to the dimensions of the material, therefore, for comfortable work, it is best to perform this stage of work with the help of a log.

They should be installed in such a way that on one side they rest against the ground, and on the other side directly against the eaves of the roof slope.

Between the planks there should be a distance slightly less than the width of the corrugated sheets themselves. Thanks to this system, two people can easily lift roofing sheet for further installation. You can replace the logs with an ordinary staircase without a railing.

Fastening sheets of corrugated board

Roofing with corrugated board should be carried out, observing the following technology:

  • Sheets should be fastened with 80 mm hex self-tapping screws and a sealing gasket. At the same time, it is worth remembering that you cannot overtighten the screws, as this can lead to excessive gasket density, as a result of which the waterproofing layer may suffer.

  • Sheets should be fastened at the bottom of the wave, and in ridge elements and in places of overlap - at the top.
  • It is best to start installation from the end of the slope. The side overlap should go halfway up the wave of the sheet. However, if the slope is gentle (the angle of inclination can vary from 8 to 120 degrees), then to avoid leakage, the overlap should go 1.5 waves.
  • At transverse and longitudinal joints, it is necessary to make additional sealing with self-adhesive tape or bituminous mastic.
  • The front parts of the roof should be equipped with wind plates that will protect the corrugated roof from destruction and blowing. They need to be fixed with self-tapping screws, the pitch of which is 200 mm.
  • Depending on the height of the wave, the length of the self-tapping screw L is also selected, which is equal to:

L= L1+H+L2, WHERE

L1,L2 - respectively the profile thread (about 25 - 30 mm) and the thickness of the washer with the seal (about 3-4 mm), H - the height of the corrugation.

Approximately 5-8 self-tapping screws should be used per 1 m2.

Making a gable cut

To prevent breaking sheets of corrugated board during strong gusts of wind, it is necessary to properly equip the gable cut.

If the allowance of corrugated board sheets from the front of the house is 50-70 mm, then a wind rail with dimensions of 25x80 mm is used, which is fastened with self-tapping screws. If the allowance from the front of the house is insignificant or not at all, then in addition to the rail, a wind bar is also used. It looks like an ordinary steel corner. It must be fastened in increments of 200-300 mm and with a transverse overlap of 100-150 mm.

To adjoin the slope to the wall, corner strips are used. Planks, regardless of the type of junction - longitudinal or transverse, should be mounted using self-tapping screws with a pitch of 200-300 mm and an overlap between these planks of about 100 mm or more.

Cross connection to the wall:

Longitudinal junction to the wall:

Installing the skate and snow barrier

start installation work associated with fastening the ridge follows from the side that is less prone to gusts of wind and leaders. For example, if for your area the west is considered the predominant windy side, then it is better to start fastening the ridge from the east. It can be simple, figured or tiled. The fixation of the ridge is carried out using self-tapping screws with a pitch of 200-300 mm, also do not forget about sealing gasket and ventilation gap.

The snow barrier is especially relevant during the thaw, it prevents avalanche snow from metal roofing. It must be installed slightly below the edge of the roof across the roof slope. Fastening is carried out in pre-mounted bars.

Roof insulation from corrugated board

To insulate the roof, you will need mineral wool and a vapor barrier. Together with mineral wool, you can also take Durra insulation, but this one is the most effective.

And so ... we go down from the roof to the attic and you can proceed to the final stage of arranging the roof from corrugated board.

Mineral insulation can be rolled or sheet, whichever you choose - it does not matter, since both have excellent performance properties. It is mounted in the gap between the rafters, any method can be used for its fastening - screw it with screws, fix it tightly with a thread or glue it. The main thing is that any of them perform their functions, and at the same time do not unnecessarily compress the seal, since it is not the cotton itself that keeps the cold outside, but the air that is located in it.

2 crate; 3 - sealant; 4 - skate; 5- layer of waterproofing; 6.7 - rafter bar and leg, respectively; 8 - mineral wool; 9- vapor barrier; 10- ceiling rail; 11 - lining or some other finishing material; a - roof ventilation; b - ventilation between waterproofing and mineral insulation.

Then a vapor barrier should be attached over the mineral wool. It is necessary in order to prevent the ingress of moisture that is in the air into the insulation, as this can significantly reduce the performance properties of mineral wool - the more moisture it absorbs, the more difficult it will be for it to retain heat.

It is worth remembering that the entire space of the roof does not need to be insulated, but you should take care of the so-called cold triangle. The space located at the top of the roof at a distance of 300-400 mm must be left untreated mineral wool, since this cold triangle will promote good air circulation in the attic and in the inside of the roof.

Installation of a corrugated roof is also allowed on an old roof, which meets all its operational properties, this will increase its thermal insulation properties.

The cost of corrugated roof installation primarily depends on the complexity of the structure, dimensions and, of course, on the roofing material itself.

Care of a professional flooring

In care, this roofing material is not whimsical at all. However, it should be handled with extreme care, as profile sheets can be easily damaged. Before installation, do not lay them on the ground, but rather use a special wooden stand for this, the boards of which are about 25 cm thick and arranged in 50 cm increments. At least once every six months, do a general cleaning of the roof from dirt, sheets and other "pests".

In case of scratches on the sheet, there is nothing to worry about, since the zinc layer located under the plastic will protect the corrugated board from rust, and the damage site can be treated with paint of the same color.

Any roof will require a ridge element to be strengthened during installation. If this is neglected, upper layer roofs will fall all natural precipitation like rain and snow, gradually destroying it from the inside. Wind entering the space between the waterproofing material can seriously damage the roof.

What is a skate

The ridge is an additional element that is designed to connect the roof slopes, and also protects it from the effects of precipitation and strong gusty winds. In addition, the ridge also has an aesthetic value: with its help, the roof takes on a finished look.

The ridge is installed by reinforcing it over corrugated sheets.

On the modern market There are many roofing materials available. different options additional elements for roofing. Three main types of skates can be distinguished from the assortment, which are used for corrugated roofing:

  • simple;
  • semicircular;
  • with U-shaped rib.
  1. A simple skate is an ordinary metal corner with a shelf width of 10 to 30 cm (these dimensions are considered standard). It is desirable to supply with edging, that is, bending the edges of the metal by 15 mm. Thanks to this, the skate is given the necessary rigidity. With a rigid element, the installation is completed more accurately and quickly. Installation of the skate is much easier, gusts of wind will not interfere and will not bend it.
  2. If a ridge with a U-shaped rib is being mounted, it must be borne in mind that it differs from a simple one. First of all, in appearance: the dimensions of the shelves are the same, but the rib is made in the form of the letter P. Usually the rib size is 20X40 mm or 20X30 mm. Most manufacturers have the ability to produce elements according to specified dimensions. With such a device, mounting the skate is more convenient. Before the actual installation of the ridge is carried out, the beam is fastened, then the roof is installed, and the corrugated board is laid. The U-shaped rib is screwed to the ridge beam using self-tapping screws.
  3. A semicircular skate may have different diameters ribs, but a cap, or ridge end piece, is a required component.

The use of ridge seals on corrugated board

For the manufacture of a roof ridge, a profiled sheet or galvanized steel is used. Its standard length is two meters.

Another of the mandatory elements that are included in the roofing device is ridge seal. It is used to seal the gap that separates the ridge sheet and corrugated board.

Seals can be for metal tiles, for corrugated board, universal self-adhesive. Of these types, the first two have the same pattern as roofing iron.

For all types of profiled sheet there is certain way installation and its seal. In the cut, the universal tape has the form of a square or rectangle. Some of the manufacturers offer ridge ventilation tape. Most often it happens in the form of a semicircle.

The material for the manufacture of the seal is foamed PVD or polyurethane foam, so there are no obstacles for air circulation.

To mount the ridge to the corrugated board, use special self-tapping screws for the roof. You can choose those that are painted in the same color as the roof, with a silicone gasket. This additional element is always in the open air, so the gasket must be used. This is a barrier to water, which will penetrate through the microscopic cracks at the head of the self-tapping screw under the roof, but thanks to it, the corrugated board and protection can be pulled off more strongly. For roofing hardware, the length is from 80 mm.

Equipment and tools

To mount the skate, you will need the following equipment:

  • roulette;
  • level;
  • a ladder with triangular protrusions at the upper ends, due to which it is attached to the roof;
  • screwdriver with a head for roofing screws;
  • lace;
  • metal scissors.

The topic of the article is a corrugated roof ridge. In it we will consider how this element of the iron roof is formed, how it is closed, what materials are used for this, installation rules and others no less important aspects. I would like to immediately indicate that not all roof structures have a ridge. This means that it is not always necessary to face it and solve the problem posed by the article.

What is a roof ridge

It turns out this element at the junction of two slopes. In this case, the joint should form a line, which is called the ridge. For example, a hipped roof does not have this element, although the slopes are joined at one point. But not all joints are called that way, but only the topmost and outermost. For example, inner corner, formed by two slopes, is called a valley.

As for the corrugated board laid on pitched roof, then according to the technology of its laying, the sheets should not be joined on the ridge butt to each other. Be sure to leave a free gap through which the air from under the roofing material comes out. But so that atmospheric precipitation does not fall into this gap, it is closed with a special additional element, which is called a ridge bar. Although purely structurally, the ridge is part of the roof, and not a separate part of the roofing. But in everyday life, even masters call this bar a skate. Therefore, we will talk about it: what they are made of, what shape, and what sizes.

Types of ridge for corrugated board

Let's start with the fact that the corrugated roof ridge is made from the same material as the profiled sheets themselves. That is, from galvanized steel sheet, painted or coated polymer layer. In this case, the ridge strip is selected in the color of the roofing.

Now, as for the shape of the product. There are three options: corner, rounded and U-shaped.

The first is a detail in the form of a corner with rolled edges. The simplest option, without pretensions to high aesthetic forms, but also the cheapest, because the technology for their production is the bending of a galvanized strip to the required angle.

The second is a more aesthetic form in the form of a gutter with shelves for fasteners, in which the edges are rolled. It is these models that form a large ventilation pocket under them. In addition, such ridge slats must be closed with plugs from the sides. With the high aesthetics of rounded skates, their price is also high, of course, in comparison with other options.

The third option is the most interesting from the position decorative design roofs. But it takes a lot of metal to make it, plus shaped plugs, in a compartment high price products.

As for the size of the skates on the corrugated roof, the length varies in the range of 2-3 m. But the width is determined by the angle of inclination of the slopes, so the range is wide in this regard.

On our website you can find the most . In the filters, you can set the desired direction, the presence of gas, water, electricity and other communications.

Ridge bar installation technology

Let's start with the fact that corrugated board is profiled material. That is, its shape is rounded or trapezoidal waves. The ridge mounted on them provides one hundred percent ventilation. It adjoins the mounting shelves to the upper waves of the roofing material, and is attached to them, and through the space formed by the planes of the lower waves and the ridge shelf, air comes out from under the roofing.

But this free space is a place where dust, insects, small birds, debris and other troubles flies under the roof. Today this problem is solved by installing a special sealing material. In fact, this is a tape made of porous material, which, when compressed, forms a dense protective barrier.

Types of ridge seal

Manufacturers today offer several varieties of skate seals made from different materials.

    Polyurethane foam seal. This is universal material with open porosity with a long service life. In the presented model line there is a self-adhesive option, which increases the convenience of installing the tape on profiled sheets.

    polyethylene. This is a figured type sealant, exactly repeating the shape of the profiles. The material is dense and rigid with closed pores. It has holes for ventilation. But they can be kept closed if aerators are installed on the roof: pitched or ridge.

    Tape PSUL. This is a self-expanding sealant made from acrylic and polyurethane. It goes on sale in compressed form. After installing the ridge, it expands, completely filling the space between the roofing material and the ridge. By the way, the material expands 5 times from its original state.

Please note that almost all sealants completely close the gap between the ridge strip and the roofing material. Therefore, in most cases, ventilation of the roof ridge under the corrugated board is organized through the side holes, which are closed with perforated plugs. Often, even plugs are not installed.

Ridge rail mounting rules

Installation of a corrugated roof ridge begins with the choice of the type of ridge strip. Then you need to decide on the number of purchased items. Everything is simple here. It is required to know the length of the ridge run, which is divided by the length of the bar. Be sure to take into account the fact that the elements are mounted among themselves with an overlap of 15-20 cm. That is, the number of joints will increase the span length. Therefore, they do it simply, they buy one more element to the calculated amount.

I would like to draw attention to two points regarding the formation of the ridge run:

    Edges of profiled sheets should not close the ridge run. Distance from the edge of the stacked sheets to top point roofs - 5-10 cm.

    Under the upper edges of the roofing material must be laid continuous crate from two boards lying next to each other. The bottom line is that the fastening of the ridge on the roof of corrugated board is carried out not in the roofing material, but in the crate.

And one more no less important point. The line of intersection of the slopes should be even. The error is allowed, but not more than 2% of the width of the mounting shelf. For example, if it is planned to install a ridge strip 2 m long with a mounting shelf width of 20 cm, then the deviation from the line of intersection of the slopes should not exceed:

20x2% \u003d 20x0.02 \u003d 0.4 cm.

If this parameter does not meet the required standards, then the likelihood that the roof will leak exactly at the installation site of the ridge bar will be quite high. This problem is solved in two ways:

    The most difficult- Lay out the roofing material.

    Simplest- choose a ridge strip with a larger width of the mounting shelves.

Installation of strips starts from any edge of the roof. First lay the sealant. Two methods are used here:

    glue the sealant on back surfaces mounting shelves;

    stick to the roofing material.

The first option is simpler and more convenient to implement.

Lay the first plank. It is attached to the crate through the upper corrugations of the corrugated board roofing screws. Fasteners are screwed in every 30-40 cm with an indent from the edges of the shelves within 2-3 cm. Then the second one is mounted with overlapping edges. The mount is exactly the same. And so are all the other elements.

pay attention to correct selection the length of the fastener, because screwing is done in the upper wave. Usually this parameter consists of the wave height of the profiled sheet and the thickness of the crate.

Video description

The video shows the sequence of installing a ridge strip on a roof covered with corrugated board:

Conclusion on the topic

So, we figured out the roof ridge device from corrugated board. We decided on the types of forms of the ridge bar and the method of its installation. In fact, this element is included in the category of "the most important additional elements" roof structure. Without it, the roof will simply be unfinished.

A roof ridge is a horizontally located rib at the highest point of the roof. The corrugated roof ridge is mounted only on a gable roof and is attached directly to the corrugated sheet. For the manufacture of a ridge from a profiled sheet, the same galvanized (or polymer-coated) steel is used as for the corrugated board itself, so the ridge organically fits into the overall appearance of the roof. Despite the modest and inconspicuous appearance, the horse is playing important role in ensuring the reliability of the roof, because its main function is to protect the under-roof space from moisture penetration.

The absence of a skate in the design gable roof greatly reduces its service life and thermal insulation qualities. Even in the case of using steel with a polymer coating, the exposed edges of corrugated sheets can be subjected to corrosion, and, in addition, a large number of moisture will lead to damage to the battens and roof rafters. Therefore, having started the installation of corrugated roofing, in no case should this process be delayed: ideally, between the fastening eaves plank and the beginning of the installation of sheets until the completion of roofing work - installation of the ridge - no more than a few days should pass.

In addition to protecting the roof structure and the under-roof space from moisture penetration from the outside, the ridge also plays another important role - it creates conditions for roof ventilation, which is especially important in the case of an insulated roof.

Calculation of the length and height of the ridge

When calculating the height of the roof ridge from corrugated board, it is necessary to build on the so-called "roof slope" - the angle formed by the rafter base parallel to the ground surface, and rafter foot, which connects the rafter base and the ridge.

In most cases, the roof slope varies from 5 to 60 degrees. Based on the magnitude of the slope, the height of the ridge can be determined arithmetically by multiplying half the width of the house by one of the constants presented in the following table:

Roof slope, degrees

Constant for calculating the height of the skate

For example, if the size of the gable of the house is 11 meters, and the slope of the corrugated roof is 45 degrees, then the height of the ridge will be 11/2 * 1 = 5.5 meters. As for the length of the ridge, if the gables of the house are strictly vertical and continue right up to the ridge itself, then its length will correspond to the length of the side of the house with added outlets for two overhangs (this value usually ranges from 0.6 m).

For a corrugated roof, buying a skate is absolutely no problem: standard sizes such a galvanized additional element is usually about 2 meters, and the width of the shelves is 25-30 cm.

By the way, ridge and other additional elements from galvanized sheet can be made independently. Do you want to know how? Then watch the following video:

Fastener selection

The fastening of a metal ridge is carried out using self-tapping screws equipped with a rubber or neoprene seal. Since the ridge is attached to the sheets of corrugated board through the upper “waves”, the length of the screws must correspond to the height of the “waves” of the corrugation.

It should be borne in mind that if the estimated length of the roof ridge exceeds the length of one unit of the additional element, when laying the ridge elements with an overlap, it will be necessary to provide an overlap of less than 10 cm (preferably even 15-20), and it is better to start laying the ridge from the side opposite to those prevailing in this area winds.

The calculation of the number of self-tapping screws for fixing the ridge to the corrugated board is carried out based on the rule that the fastening of the screws is carried out after 200-300 mm of the length of the ridge.

Required Tools

In the process of installing the ridge on a corrugated roof, you will need the following tools and fixtures:

  • Ladder with triangular ledges for fastening to the roof
  • Roulette
  • Building level
  • Metal shears
  • Screwdriver with head for roofing screws
  • Marking lace

Mounting the skate: step by step instructions

Step 0 Preliminary check finished roof, the upper slopes of which should be even and lie in the same plane parallel to the ground (the deviation from the horizontal should be no more than 2 cm).

Step 1. Stretching the marking cord between the gables, aligning the cord with a level and fastening it from opposite corners of the roof with self-tapping screws. This stage of work is preferably carried out with an assistant.

Step 2 Laying a sealing strip or ridge ventilation tape over the corrugated board. This stage is necessary for reliable ventilation between the roof and the underlying layers of the roof, because in the absence of air exchange in roofing cake moisture will accumulate, which has a destructive effect on the wooden crate and the roofing material itself.

Step 3 Installation of the first ridge element, which is laid from the side opposite to the prevailing winds and rains in the region. Depending on the pattern of the roofing profiled sheet, the additional elements are screwed at a distance of 200-300 mm through the upper corrugation of the corrugated board to the bars parallel to the axis of the ridge.

Step 4 Installation of other ridge elements with an overlap of 100-200 mm. It is important that when fastening the ridge, it is necessary to constantly check the horizontalness of its axis (with the help of laces and by level), therefore, initially each element is fastened with only 2-4 self-tapping screws, and when there is complete confidence in the even location of the ridge, the remaining self-tapping screws are finished.
