summer kitchen, whether simple gazebo with a barbecue or a solid structure with a stove and communications - this is a building of essentials in any area. After all, country life is unimaginable without barbecues, outdoor gatherings, and also without seasonal preservation of products. In this article, we presented 11 tips, 70 photo ideas and several videos that will help you create your ideal summer kitchen.

What summer kitchens are there?

They can be roughly divided into three types:

  1. Open (for example, barbecue gazebo, terrace or patio)- a simple frame building without insulation, often without walls (fully / partially) and even a roof. In fact, an open summer kitchen is a shed or gazebo with a barbecue / oven and a dining area that can only be used in summer. It is good because it is comfortable to cook and eat in it, and communicate with guests on fine summer days. An open kitchen is easier, faster and more economical to build than a closed one. In winter, a summer building with a canopy can be used as a warehouse for storing the household. The disadvantages of an open kitchen include the limited period of use of the structure, as well as the lack of protection of furniture, appliances and kitchen inhabitants from insects, rain, wind and sun. For the winter, all furniture and appliances will have to be cleaned in a dry room.

  1. Closed (for example, a grill house or a veranda)- capital covered structure / annex with insulation and glazing, sometimes even heated all year round. In fact, this is a real house, consisting of a kitchen and a dining room. The closed summer kitchen is good because you can cook and eat in it even in bad weather with rain and winds. Thanks to the walls and roof in such a house you can equip full kitchen with fridge, microwave, gas /electric stove , dishwasher, TV and other equipment. True, on warm days, cooking in a closed kitchen will be as hot as in the main house. Also keep in mind that its construction will cost you more than an open building.

  1. Combined- this type of building combines an open and covered space under one roof. Also, this category includes a summer kitchen combined with a bath. Such a kitchen is good for everyone and has only a couple of disadvantages - doubly complex design and increased budget.

Now let's look at the characteristics of freestanding and attached kitchens:

  • Freestanding- are good because they allow you to place the hearth away from the house so that smells, smoke and noise do not penetrate the house. It makes sense to build a freestanding summer kitchen if you have enough space on the site, if it has, say, beautiful garden or a pond if you want to decorate the area with a nice new structure.
  • Adjoining the house- a terrace or veranda can become an excellent summer kitchen, because it is much easier and cheaper to build (one wall has already been erected) or re-equip, and it is very convenient to move between the house and the annex. True, the minus of the summer kitchen on the veranda / terrace is that the smoke, heat, smell and fumes from the stove will enter the living quarters, and part of the kitchen will remain through.

11 tips for building, furnishing and designing a summer kitchen

No matter how thoughtful and beautiful your summer kitchen is, its unfortunate location on the site can complicate both construction and further operation. Therefore, the place is the first thing to think carefully about.

  • From a practical point of view, it is more convenient when the summer kitchen is located close to home. So it is easier for the inhabitants of the dacha to move between objects, and holding engineering communications cheaper, faster and easier. However, from an aesthetic point of view, better fit a place near the “points of interest” of the site that you can admire (for example, near a reservoir or garden). The following factors are also bonuses: protection from the wind, privacy from the eyes of neighbors and proximity to trees that can shade the building and create coolness in it on hot days.

  • Unsuitable places for a summer kitchen: near the road, garage, toilet, cesspools / compost pits, chicken coop and other places where your rest may be disturbed unpleasant odors noise, exhaust fumes, etc.

Tip 2. Grill, barbecue, oven or oven complex? Solve this issue before developing / selecting a summer kitchen project

  • If the stove is the heart of urban cuisine, then the grill, barbecue or oven can be called the heart. country kitchen. Before you start designing, think about what kind of hearth you need: a grill, a brazier, a stove, or even a stove complex? Should the grill be stationary or portable? Coal or gas? With or without chimney? What size and where will the fire source be located? A lot depends on your choice - from the type of foundation to the shape of the roof. So, for example, for the construction of a stove, you will have to take care not only of the foundation, chimney and cladding, but also provide a place for storing firewood in the project.

Understand the features different types street hearth will help you.

Tip 3. Do you want to build a summer kitchen with your own hands quickly and on a budget? Build an open gazebo made of wood, with a light roof, without solid walls and a stove

In this case, instead of a monolithic or pile-strip foundation, you can do columnar foundation. The building itself will consist of 4 (or more) pillars and a one-/double-pitched roof with a light roof, for example, made of polycarbonate. This is very simple design, which you can actually build with your own hands in just a couple of days and with a minimal budget.

The following selection of photos presents design options for simple summer kitchens.

A simple summer kitchen in a country house in the suburbs

For the construction of a summer kitchen with your own hands, it is easiest to use wood. True, larch or teak should be preferred to pine, as they are stronger and, moreover, age beautifully

Simple summer kitchen from a bar with a shed roof

However, there is a way to make a summer kitchen with your own hands even faster and cheaper. Fold the platform from paving slabs, set up one or two large garden umbrellas, arrange furniture, install a sink and a portable grill and start cooking!

On the one hand, the cellar in the summer kitchen is very useful, because it is so convenient to store food in it like in a refrigerator. On the other hand, its creation significantly increases the cost and complicates construction. Especially if we are talking about an open building, because then the cellar will have to be insulated and protected from leaks. Even in the main house, you can do without a cellar and a basement, let alone a summer kitchen.

Tip 5. The summer kitchen, the facade of the house and the landscape should be designed in the same way.

When choosing or developing a summer kitchen project, considering options for its decoration, keep in mind that it should be combined with the facade of the house and other buildings on the site. So you create a real summer cottage complex and achieve a sense of order. It doesn't have to be a 100% match. color scheme, decoration, architecture and style, but objects must have something in common. The photo below shows an example of a modern summer kitchen on the terrace. wooden house from a bar.

  • The closer the summer kitchen is located to the house, the more similar both buildings should be.
  • If there is an object on the site that is out of the “big picture”, say, a hastily built bathhouse, then the design of the summer kitchen can be planned in such a way that it combines the features of both the bathhouse and the house. So some randomness of the building will be corrected.

In an open kitchen, the floor can be sheathed:

  • A wooden board covered with oil or wax for outdoor use (lacquer is less suitable, as it will begin to crack over time and require re-coating).

Outdoor kitchen in the country house with a floor finish made of larch deck boards coated with a matt azure based on alkyd resins

  • Terrace board (made of wood-polymer composite).

  • stone or special outdoor tiles. True, such a floor requires a strong foundation and a large budget.

  • By the way, we recommend to refrain from too dark a floor, as crumbs, dirt and puddles of water will be especially noticeable on it.
  • If the floor of the open kitchen will have a slight slope (1-2 cm), got inside rainwater will drain on its own.

Tip 7. Stick to the "working triangle" rule when planning your kitchen

In the arrangement of kitchens, there is a rule of the so-called. "working triangle", which consists in the fact that the three working areas (sink, stove and refrigerator) should be in reasonable proximity to each other, forming a triangle. Ideally, it should be equilateral. Thanks to this layout of zones, the kitchen is as convenient as possible.

  • In the summer kitchen, this rule is not always applicable in its pure form, because it can be too small , narrow, elongated, irregular in shape, instead of a stove, it most often uses a stove, grill or barbecue, and there may not be a refrigerator at all. However, try to get as close to the ideal as possible and do not line up work areas in one line.

So, for example, if in your summer kitchen the source of fire is a barbecue and it is taken out of it, then the sink and food preparation area should be installed as close as possible to the exit.

  • If the kitchen is small, then you can build the kitchen L-shaped. For narrow kitchen(for example, on the veranda) a two-row layout may be suitable. AT square shaped kitchen U-shaped layout will fit best.

If your summer kitchen is only possible single row layout, then a compact mobile island / peninsula will help to make it more convenient.

Tip 8. The dining area should be at least 2 m away from the barbecue / stove

Ideally, the distance between dining table and a brazier / oven / grill should be approximately 3 m. In this case, smoke, heat and odors will not disturb vacationers, and chips, ashes and sparks will not spoil the look of the dining area.

Tip 9. Use furniture that will withstand outdoor conditions

The kitchen set and dining furniture in the summer kitchen must withstand high humidity and temperature fluctuations, so from luxurious wooden furniture, furniture made of laminated chipboard / MDF, as well as furniture upholstered in fabric or leather should be discarded.

But for the summer kitchen, the following options are suitable:

  • Veneered MDF furniture;
  • Wooden garden furniture(folding structures are especially suitable, which, at the end holiday season can be easily moved to the pantry);
  • Wrought iron outdoor furniture;
  • Stainless steel furniture (if you don't want to clean kitchen set on the winter period, choose stainless steel furniture);
  • Wicker furniture made of natural wicker, rattan or plastic;
  • Plastic furniture (eg, polycarbonate).

The photo below shows an example of the design of a summer kitchen-terrace with an all-season stainless steel set.

Often summer residents forget to pay enough attention to the lighting of the summer kitchen. And with it, you can create real comfort and comfort.

  • Ideally, artificial light in the evening should be soft, even and multi-level. To do this, the room should be illuminated not with one chandelier, but with several lamps: floor / pendant lights, wall sconces, spot spots, suspensions, table lamps, floor lamps and / and or garlands of light bulbs.
  • With the help of light, you can divide the space into zones, for example, in the kitchen and dining room. So you will have the opportunity during evening meals to hide the work area in the dark and illuminate only a beautiful table.

  • To make it comfortable for you to cook in the evenings, install the backlight directly above working area. If you limit yourself to a lamp installed behind it, while cooking, your back will block the light.
  • To illuminate an open summer kitchen, metal, plastic, wooden and wicker lamps with additional protection from water. Ideally, these should be garden lamps.

  • Around the summer kitchen and along the path, you can install lights that work on solar panels. They store energy during the day and turn on automatically in the evening. True, they give little light, and on cloudy days they do not charge at all.
  • With the help of hedges, pergolas or screens with climbing plants you can make the summer kitchen more secluded, close the view on the unsightly places of the site.
  • Decorative plantings, flower beds and bushes can mark the boundaries of zones, hide the foundation and simply decorate the summer kitchen and general form territory.

Summer, sun... You can have a meal in the yard, in nature. Why not cook here? Instead of running between the kitchen and the terrace, you can cook right in the garden. And help in this open kitchen built with his own hands.

People eat, drink, talk, celebrate and have fun - and all this action takes place in the kitchen. Any party, as a rule, ends deep after midnight in the kitchen. Sunny days and wonderful evenings beckon people to the street, and the kitchen, unfortunately, is in the house.

Equip your kitchen right in the open air! Thanks to this, the party will begin and end in the yard. All it takes is a little free time. consists of two main modules: gas stove and refrigerator. Main elements garden kitchen: gas grill with a brazier and two burners and a mini-fridge.

Design details of the summer kitchen and their features

It should be noted that the dimensions of the garden kitchen are calculated based on the dimensions of the granite panels (sold in the plumbing store).

If the dimensions of the stone panels you purchased differ from ours, then the dimensions of the entire structure will need to be adjusted.

To be able to freely open and close the gas cylinder valve, a hole is cut out in the middle shelf. The balloon must be secured against tipping over while the module is being moved.
An additional shelf is installed slightly below the working surface of the countertop. If you put, for example, bread on it, then even the smallest household members can take it.
Splash protection - suspension bar and glass panels- in order to save space, you can hang it from the back of the mobile kitchen after use.

Let's start making our table for the summer kitchen

1 TO back side Reinforcing plates are glued to granite panels using a special adhesive for ceramic tiles to reinforce them. This will give the panels additional stability and prevent them from splitting. It is best to do this at the very beginning, as the glue will dry for several hours.
2. The elements of the base of the structure are connected by means of dowels. A marker for dowels will help with this.
3. The base is glued together with moisture-resistant assembly adhesive using large carpentry clamps. Make sure that the horizontal and vertical parts are joined exactly at right angles.
4. Details of the flooring for laying granite panels are connected with moisture-resistant mounting adhesive and screws.
5. Then the flooring is screwed to the base. The next stage is the manufacture of a frame for granite panels.
6. So that the middle shelves can be installed on different height, drill a series of holes in the legs of the base, and cut wide grooves from the bottom in the side elements of the frame of the shelves. Pieces of aluminum tubes will serve as a support for the shelves.
7. Now you can attach the boards to the frame.
8. To make the garden kitchen mobile, wheels are attached to two of the four legs of each module. The legs to which the wheels are screwed must be shorter than the other two by the installation height of these wheels (in our case, the difference in height is 10 cm).
9. We mount hanging strips and glass panels.
10. We install hinges for hanging shelves.
11. We mount an additional shelf.
12. Laying granite panels

Convenient serving table with two shelves - trays will be a wonderful addition to furniture set your garden kitchen. It can accommodate everything you need to treat a fun company.

This practical serving table is a real hit. summer season. It will not be difficult to make it. Unlike its modest counterparts, it carries a double load: in addition to the upper table-top-tray, the design also includes an additional lower shelf-tray. This makes our folding table an ideal grilling companion and an indispensable participant in fun picnics.

Plates, glasses, drinks and snacks will always be at hand. The large top tray is held securely on the bed thanks to the raised sides on the underside. The lower tray is simply installed on the crossbars and is not additionally fixed in any way. However, it will not roll over, as it is very tightly inserted between the legs of the table.

If a table with shelves-trays is not needed for some time, it can be assembled. It takes very little space to store it.

1. To increase the connection area, namely the gluing area of the narrow parts of the handles and sides, bottom reinforcement strips are glued. The backing strip will prevent the plywood from warping.
2. We used a Forstner drill with a diameter of 20 mm to drill auxiliary holes when cutting out the slots in the handles. Holes are drilled at a distance of 1 cm from the top edge of the parts.
3. Then the holes of the handles are cut with a size of 13 x 2 cm. All edges must be sanded and rounded with sanding paper.
4. When gluing the handles, make sure that they fit snugly. By means of clamps, the bottom of the tray is attached to flat surface. Remove the glue that has come out with a chisel.
5. Now firmly glue the lower sides that are adjacent to long sides bottoms.
6. It will be more convenient if you turn the tray over when gluing the top sides. To prevent the tray from twisting, fix it with clamps.
7. After you have assembled both trays, you need to carefully sand all rounds, edges and surfaces.
8. The crossbars are screwed to the legs exactly at right angles. To do this, pre-drill and countersink holes.
9. The legs are twisted at the crossing point with cylinder head bolts and stainless washers.
10. Thanks to the chain attached to the upper crossbars with eyebolts, the base will be stable in assembled condition(legs will not move apart).
11. The protruding bottom sides of the top tray hold it securely on the base, preventing accidental tipping.

AT it is inconvenient to cook in the house on a hot day: it is hot and stuffy. But it is at this time that the hostess spends more time at the stove, because in addition to the usual cooking, she is also waiting for the seaming of home canned food. Light construction, a summer kitchen in the country will help to facilitate the task and turn duty into pleasure. Projects, photos and various ideas this cozy corner help home master turn your dream into reality.

For a seasonal structure, a canopy and a concrete platform are enough

It is not difficult to build a temporary dining room on your own, the main thing is to reasonably approach its location on the site and the choice building materials.

We are preparing a project

The first step is to study the site plan and determine the location for the optimal location of the building. This site must meet the following requirements:

  • be close to the main house so that you can bring dishes and food;
  • have convenient access routes so that there is no obstacle to moving from home to building;
  • it is desirable to provide for the proximity of the site to the main communications: water, sewerage and electricity.

Helpful information! The ideal option would be to have a natural or artificial reservoir near the construction.

Having decided on the construction site, you need to measure its area. The size of the temporary structure is a separate issue. If it will additionally carry the function of a dining room, you will have to provide additional space for setting a table and placing chairs or benches. The presence of a stove or barbecue in the dining room also dictates the need to add square meters to separate the hot shop from the dining group.

Even with a complete lack of artistic skills, it is easy to draw a plan for the future kitchen using a ruler and checkered paper. On a scale, you need to depict all the main items that will be located in the building: a sink, work surfaces, a stove or oven, a table. If the hostess has assistants, it is better to make the room elongated so that it is convenient for several cooks to work at once.

Placement at the dining table should be comfortable, chairs need enough space to move back.

Helpful advice! If the area of the site does not allow you to place a temporary kitchen with a dining room, you can abandon this idea and move lunch group on or into the gazebo.

What does every housewife dream about? So that the kitchen was always perfectly clean, the interior looked neat, and the space was decorated comfortably and everything was at hand. And the most interesting thing is that such dreams are not difficult to realize and make the kitchen comfortable in every way. We have selected the most interesting, practical and original ideas, which will help you to easily cope with this task.

Cutting boards, servings and baking tins are often left without their own place and wander to different corners of the kitchen. This is terribly annoying, so it’s worth defining one small niche for them, it can be both vertical and horizontal. It is good to equip it with mini-sections so that the boards and molds are stored neatly.

Hidden storage systems look interesting and fresh in the kitchen. For example, you can make a cell for microwave oven or coffee makers, and then disguise it as a furniture facade. It will turn out unusual, interesting and at the same time practical.

Whatever new storage systems designers invent, open shelves remain out of fashion and time. They are always ready to help in small space, make storage in the kitchen more convenient, and the interior visually more spacious. It is great to equip them with additional hooks so that it is convenient to hang cups or ladles on them.

Vertical roll-out drawers have entered the interior fashion relatively recently, but housewives and designers have already managed to fall in love with them. They are convenient because they do not take up much space, allow you to place a sufficient number of small items and store them neatly. Such solutions will be especially relevant in small kitchens.

Special attention should be paid to the storage of vegetables and fruits, because if done incorrectly, they will quickly deteriorate and lose their taste qualities. For these purposes, it is good to have wicker or metal baskets with good ventilation.

In the kitchen, order should be in everything, this even applies to pot lids, which often bring inconvenience. They can get lost, roll out of the cabinet and simply interfere with the normal storage of pots. You can cope with this unpleasant situation with the help of a conventional metal railing. It is worth installing it on the handle of the locker and fixing the covers on it.

Many housewives simply cannot imagine their life without confectionery experiments. Therefore, the kitchen has a huge supply of all kinds of whisks and rolling pins. They also need to be kept in order. It is best to select a horizontal roll-out box for this, build separate cells in it using wooden or plywood partitions. Thus, all the tools will be stored neatly and will be at hand at the right time.

Perhaps, every housewife is a perfectionist at heart, one has only to start putting things in order, as this essence manifests itself in all its glory. To satisfy the inner esthete, you need to distribute all the cereals in jars, equip them with tags with inscriptions, allocate space for storing spices, and arrange everything in such a way that it is convenient to get food during cooking.

It's great when the kitchen has a place for a culinary library. It is easy to organize it even in a small room, for this you can use all kinds of niches, open shelves and even a place under the table or in kitchen island.
Such storage of knives will not leave anyone indifferent. It is aesthetically pleasing, stylish and very practical! True, it will take some ingenuity to build such a storage system, but it will be worth it. If there is no desire to mess around with a hidden system, then you can equip part of the wall with magnetic tapes and attach knives to them. It will turn out well too!
