Key features

List of alarm features Tomahawk 9020:

  1. The presence of feedback provides the possibility of monitoring the state of the system. All data regarding the operation of the anti-theft complex are displayed on the display of the main key fob in the form of indicators and inscriptions. By the symbols of the screen, you can decipher the operation of the alarm mode in the absence of the driver, as well as the operation of the alarm options.
  2. Security vehicle around the perimeter of the body. To protect the car, limit switches, power inputs of the ignition system, engine blocking, etc. are used. In addition, this model uses an additional immobilizer to prevent unauthorized start-up of the power unit.
  3. The ability to control the alarm without using a key fob. If the device breaks down or the battery in it fails, then a personal password can be used to enable and disable protection modes. The code should be known only to the car owner.
  4. Auto return to guard mode. If the protection is accidentally disabled, the system will automatically activate it after 30 seconds. The alarm will be able to determine this by the signals of the sensors. If no door 30 seconds after shutdown guard mode not opened, it will be regarded by the system as an accidental deactivation.
  5. The ability to silently turn on the protection, as well as the protection of the car without alarms. In the first case, the function is activated without sound confirmation signals. In the second case, the siren does not turn on when the guard is activated, but information about this is transmitted to the communicator with a display.
  6. Remote setting of the shock controller. Sensor sensitivity parameters can be adjusted independently using a key fob. The user can change the setting of the warning and alarm zones.
  7. Possibility of control of the regular central lock of the car.
  8. The presence of a backlit display makes the procedure for managing and configuring the alarm system more simplified in the dark.
  9. Control capability door locks when the ignition is turned on and off.
  10. Indication of the temperature level in the vehicle interior. The data is displayed on the main pager screen.
  11. Availability of non-volatile system memory. If there is a power failure of the control unit, when it is further activated, the alarm will return to its previous state. When trying to dismantle security complex the power unit will be blocked, so even in the event of a burglary, it will not be possible to steal a car.
  12. The presence of the "Panic" and "Anti-robbery" modes. In the first case, at the command from the pager, alarms and external lighting devices are activated. This allows you to designate the vehicle as protected and scare potential hijackers away from it. The "Anti-robbery" option is used to block the motor at the user's command in the event of a forcible seizure of the car.
  13. The "Search" function allows you to temporarily turn on external lights, which allows the user to find a car left in a large parking lot.
  14. The presence of the "Turbotimer" mode. Its essence lies in the fact that after turning off the ignition system, the power unit of the machine works for several minutes for idling. The motor action time is user configurable. This prevents rapid wear of the structural components of the motor.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of the alarm system:

  1. Great functionality at a relatively low price. According to the set of options, the system can be attributed to anti-theft systems.
  2. Uninterrupted operation of the alarm system under any conditions, including in extreme cold.
  3. The presence of a built-in system for polling the status of all elements of the anti-theft complex.
  4. A simple and understandable setup menu for the average user.

Disadvantages specific to this model:

  1. There may be malfunctions in the engine start system. This problem, as a rule, is associated with incorrect installation of the alarm and a conflict between the system and the standard immobilizer. To eliminate it, you will need to additionally install the blocker bypass module.
  2. Poor quality of protection of transmitted signals. A professional hijacker will be able to electronically hack the system and turn off the alarm.
  3. Communication failures. Over time, the device may not respond to user commands. To fix the problem, you need to turn off the power to the key fob.
  4. At low negative temperatures the alarm can activate the alarm mode for no reason. It is not always possible to turn it off in cold weather with a key fob, so you will need to disconnect the terminals from the battery.
  5. Fragile case of the pager. The device may fail after several drops.

Installation guide

Security systems Tomahawk TW 9010, TZ 9020, TZ 9030 have standard scheme connections.

First you need to choose a place to install the main elements of the alarm.

In doing so, follow the following rules:

  • choose inconspicuous places;
  • there should be no sources of heat and moisture nearby;
  • limit the influence of standard electronics in order to avoid interference in further work alarms.

Connecting the alarm system begins with the installation of the main elements of the security system:

  1. Turn off power before installation.
  2. The central control unit is installed in the cabin, in a hard-to-reach place. It is usually placed behind the dashboard.
  3. The antenna should be mounted as high as possible so that it is not in contact with any metal objects and electrical wiring.
  4. The siren is installed in the engine compartment in inaccessible place, isolating it from moisture and heat sources. The horn should be pointing down.
  5. and bonnet. They must be protected from moisture.
  6. It is better to install a temperature sensor near the motor in order to have reliable information about the temperature of the engine.
  7. All high-current wires must be protected by fuses. The connecting contacts are soldered. From above you need to install special heat shrinks.
  8. Next, you need to install the LED lamp. From it it will be possible to determine that the car is under protection.
  9. The shock sensor is placed inside the car, the ideal place is the center, it is attached to the metal with a screed or double-sided tape.

Attaching Colored Wires to Connectors central control block, sensors and other elements of the system is carried out according to the diagram in the instructions. On the final stage you need to adjust the sensitivity of the shock sensor. You need to start with a minimum, increasing the sensitivity. Then you need to set up the engine start remotely, the daily engine start function, program the key fob. With the Override button, you can set some functions without using the key fob.

After installing and configuring the Tomahawk alarm with your own hands, you need to check it for operability. To do this, press the red alarm button and check if the system responds. If you hear an alert tone, the installation was successful.

Tomahawk budget alarms have limited opportunities autorun configuration. Security systems of this price segment are purchased for cars with simple design, where special flexibility in settings is not required - on the other hand, Tomahawk is cheaper and easier to install on your own.

Configuring Autorun Tomahawk TW-9010, TW-9020, TW-9030

These legacy alarms use the Override button (traditionally called Valet on other alarms) for programming. To enter the programming mode, with the ignition off, press Override 6 times.
Next, turn on the ignition, the siren will confirm the transition to the settings menu with 6 signals.
Select the appropriate function by pressing the Override button a number of times corresponding to the function number. After that, the Tomahawk will report the number of the selected function in the form of a set of signals, where the short one is 1, and the long one is 5 (a series of two long and three short beeps means that function 13 is selected). Then, by pressing the button on the key fob, the desired value functions from 1 to 4, where 1 is the arming button, 2 is the auto start button, 3 is the trunk release and 4 is the “crossed out speaker”.

The autorun work of the Tomahawk TW-9010 includes the following functions:

  1. Engine run time - 5,10,15 or 20 minutes. The default is 10 minutes, in winter it is better to increase this time.
  2. temperature for auto heating. Please note that it is measured by the alarm in the cabin, and not by the engine. Setting options - from minus 5 to minus 30 degrees, by default it is set to minus 10.
  3. Starter crank time: 0.8s, 1.2s, 1.8s or 3s. By default, the starter turns on for 0.8 s. When using tachometric control, the Tomahawk will automatically disengage the starter upon detecting engine start, so set the crank time to 3 seconds. With other control methods, on the first start attempt, the starter always turns on for a specified time, and each subsequent start attempt lasts longer by 0.2 s. It is forbidden to set the scrolling time to 3 seconds!
  4. Engine control option. There are three options: 1 (by default) - by voltage in the on-board network, 2 - by control lamp oil pressure, 3 - according to the tachometric signal. Strive to use the third method, as the most accurate and safe for the starter. To correctly determine the start by tacho signal, the alarm system needs to learn the idle speed. To do this, when the ignition is turned on, press the Override button 9 times, then turn off the ignition, listen to 9 siren signals and start the engine. Once the engine speed drops to normal, press the Override button once until sound signal. If instead of a single signal, the siren gives 4, it means that the selected tachosignal source is incorrectly recognized and cannot be used by it.
  5. the duration of activation of additional channel 2, to which the immobilizer crawler is connected if necessary. Switching on options - 0.8 s, 10 s, 30 s or constant switching on for the entire autostart time. The choice depends on the operation of the immobilizer in a particular car: if the car stalls after working for a while, change the function value from the default 0.8 s to a longer time until you achieve normal operation.
  6. control of the power wire IGN 2 and the central lock during autorun. If your vehicle's ignition switch has two independent circuits, then the IGN 2 circuit must be used and programmed accordingly. In option 1, the IGN 2 circuit is turned on, the central lock is not locked at the time of autorun (more precisely, it retains the state at the time of autorun). In option 2, the IGN 2 circuit is disabled, as is the autorun control. In option 3, IGN 2 is used and an additional locking impulse is applied to the central locking. In option 4, only the central locking control is activated.
  7. delay between turning on the ignition and the starter during autorun. Option 1 is a two second delay for gasoline engines, option 2 - 10 second delay for diesels with glow plugs.

The Tomahawk TW-9020 and TW-9030 have a different autorun settings menu.

  1. IGN 3 output operation mode (turns off when the starter is running / does not turn off when the starter is running / turns on for the entire time the starter is running / turns on before the starter).
  2. Control of engine operation and starter activation time. In options from 1 to 3, the alarm determines the start of the engine by the oil pressure lamp, the starter turns on for 0.8, 1.2 or 2 s. In option 4, control is based on a tacho signal, the maximum scrolling time is 3.6 s. Voltage control in the network, as on the TW-9010, is no longer here.
  3. Type of checkpoint and mode of preparation for autorun. Option 1 - automatic transmission, no need for a "software neutral". Option 2 - manual transmission and automatic software neutral, which works every time the handbrake is pulled out with the engine running. Options 3 and 4 are a "safe algorithm" when, after pulling the handbrake, it is necessary to press and hold the disarm button until a beep sounds, and then press it again.
  4. Engine type (1 - gasoline, others - diesel).
  5. Turbo timer operation (off/1 minute/3 minutes/6 minutes).
  6. Warm-up time (5/10/15/20 minutes).
  7. Periodic autostart interval (1 hour/2 hours/4 hours/24 hours).
  8. Arming at autostart (active in option 1).
  9. The mode of control of dimensions or turn signals during autorun (flash / permanently on / off / off).
  10. An impulse to close the doors at the end of the autostart (served in option 2-4).

The inclusion of periodic autorun is performed by the Override button. To enable autostart by temperature, you need to press the button 5 times with the ignition off, to enable daily autostart - 4 times, then turn on the ignition. Now you can use the Override button to enable or disable the selected autorun mode - after each press, Tomahawk will report the status with 1 beep (enabled) or two (disabled). To save the setting, turn off the ignition. If daily start is selected, then the car will start automatically after that and will start at the same time every day.

How to Set Autostart on Tomahawk 10.1 Alarms

This signaling according to the principle of setting differs little from previous episodes: the procedure for entering the settings menu and further selection steps desired function similar to TW-9010.
Functions 1 to 5 are absolutely identical. The differences go further:

  • function 7 allows you to configure the Tomahawk to work on vehicles with a Start-Stop button (options 3 and 4);
  • the difference between these options is in the functioning of the black-yellow wire: in option 3, a pulse is given after several unsuccessful start attempts, in option 4 - after each. The functioning of this wire is set according to the algorithm of the Start-Stop button in a particular car;
  • function 17 now controls the central lock, and according to a modified algorithm. In option 1 additional control The central locking is completely disabled; in option 2, only a locking impulse is given at the end of the autostart. In option 3, on the contrary, the locking pulse is applied only at the beginning of autostart, and in option 4 - both at the beginning and at the end.

Something else useful for you:

Tomahawk startup issues

Since since the time of Tomahawk TW-9010, the autorun algorithms for alarms of this brand have changed little (minor differences are primarily due to the introduction of support for Start-Stop systems), information regarding this system can be applied to newer ones.
On cars with manual transmission, as with other auto-start alarms, it will require the correct completion of the “software neutral” procedure. And here this procedure is hard-coded by the manufacturer and is not configured by the user.

The software neutral procedure includes:

  1. Apply the handbrake while the engine is running.
  2. Press the autostart button on the key fob - after that, an indication of the operation of the motor will appear on its screen (a cloud at the exhaust pipe).
  3. Remove the key from the ignition - if everything works correctly, the engine will not stall.
  4. Get out of the car. When the door is closed, the motor will stop.

Compared to the common algorithm, where autorun reservation occurs immediately when the handbrake is pulled, this one is more complicated. Often, users simply forget about the need for forced reservation with the button on the key fob or, on the contrary, do it before pulling out the handbrake.

In this regard, the automatic mode of the TW-9020 and TW-9030 is more convenient: you just need to pull out the handbrake.

If, after correctly completing the backup in steps 1 and 2, the engine stalls and autostart does not work, then check the following:

  • Does the alarm “see” the handbrake being applied? When it is pulled out and released, the corresponding indicator on the key fob screen lights up and goes out when the owner presses the alarm status check button.
  • Does the Tomahawk "see" the engine running? You need to know exactly how the alarm is connected. The voltage control of the engine (TW-9010) malfunctions if the generator fails or the power supply connection points are oxidized - in this case, the central unit will receive less voltage than is included in the algorithm as a sign of the motor operation. When checking the oil pressure lamp, as a rule, there are no problems. If the alarm is configured to control by tacho signal, then try to relearn the Tomahawk idle speed, as described earlier.
  • The last problem that can disrupt the operation of the software neutral is a malfunction of the driver's door limit switch. Without "seeing" the opening and closing of the door, the alarm will not complete the "software neutral".

If "software neutral" completes normally, but startup attempts do not succeed, pay attention to the following points. First of all, this is the starter cranking time, if the operation control is set by voltage or oil pressure lamp. In winter, when the scroll time is set to a minimum (0.8 s), the motor does not have time to grab, but the thickened oil already has time to extinguish the pressure lamp. The next time you try to start, the Tomahawk will "see" the engine running before the starter is turned on, and will not make further attempts to start.

Therefore, the optimal setting for the Tomahawk is tacho signal control, with the starter crank time set to the maximum.

On cars with an immobilizer, check the correct operation of the crawler. To do this, after turning off the ignition, it is enough to simulate an exit by opening and closing the door, and then try to autostart by attaching the key to the ignition. If the immobilizer "does not see" the crawler, then at that moment it will "see" the regular key at the lock, and the launch will occur without problems.

In the crawler, pay attention to the placement of the chip relative to the internal antenna (ensure maximum overlap of the chip antenna with the turns, it should be directed perpendicular to the turns), try changing the position of the response antenna relative to the transponder winding on the ignition switch. It is worth finding an installation map for your car on the Internet - perhaps for the crawler to work correctly, it should not be connected with a patch antenna, but in a standard wiring break.

If the engine starts and immediately stalls, try increasing the crawler's operating time in the alarm settings. On different machines, the immobilizer works differently and interrogates the chip both once after the ignition is turned on, and periodically when the engine is running. If in this case the crawler is set to turn on for a short time, then at the time of the second poll, the immobilizer will no longer “see” the chip and turn off the engine.

How to install?

Installation and connection of the security complex does not require special tuning equipment and knowledge of the intricacies of alarm programming. The Tomahawk TZ 9020 manual contains a section on installation and configuration. The owner can install the complex on his own, guided by the recommendations in the documentation.

Installation Requirements

Description general requirements for installation:

  1. Work is performed with the battery disconnected. If the car has a standard audio system or airbags, then you should clarify the features of disconnecting the battery. This information is available in the owner's manual for the vehicle.
  2. Blocks of the security complex are hidden (except for the antenna and the control diode).
  3. Near the elements of the security complex should not be sources of moisture and heat.
  4. It is advisable to install the electronic components of the alarm system at a distance from the electronic components of the vehicle. This will help to avoid possible negative impact of devices on each other.
  5. The transceiver antenna is installed at a distance from the central alarm unit and the electronic components of the car.

Sequencing

Approximate installation sequence:

  1. The central unit is located in the passenger compartment. The default location is dashboard or the interior of the center console. Installed block should not interfere with the movement of rods and levers of controls.
  2. The antenna is attached to the windshield at the top. Antenna unit must not come into contact with metal parts bodywork and standard wiring harnesses. The cable is laid for plastic elements interior. When laying it is necessary to make sure that there are no kinks and pinching of the wires.
  3. The siren is usually mounted in the engine compartment, horn down. When using an active device, access to the keyhole of the power switch is required. The input of wires into the cabin is carried out through regular holes in the engine shield.
  4. The limit switches are placed on the steel elements of the body inside the perimeter of the sealing edge. It is forbidden to install limit switches on the surface of gutters and at points where water accumulates. During operation, it is recommended to clean the devices from dirt and corrosion and apply a protective layer of lubricant.
  5. The impact sensor is located along the axis of the car as close as possible to the center of the cabin. The sensor is fixed with self-tapping screws or double sided tape. The user must have easy access to the sensor to adjust the sensitivity.
  6. If an additional sensor is used, then it is located in the cabin. The installation site must guarantee quick access to the product for adjustment.
  7. The diode is installed on the visible part of the instrument panel or on the front roof pillars.
  8. The Override button is mounted relatively discreetly. The owner must have access to it. When pressing the key, the user must have a good view of the diode, as this is necessary for tuning.

Device connection diagram

Connecting an alarm consists of several steps:

  • installation of the power connector harness;
  • connecting the main connector;
  • connection of the central lock block;
  • installation of wires of additional devices.

When connecting the power wires (red and black), it is necessary to ensure the most reliable contact. The red cable is tightly twisted with the regular wires of the system, the junction is connected by soldering and insulated. The cross section of the standard wiring must ensure the supply of the rated operating current, i.e., at least 10 A. The negative wire is attached to the standard bolts or nuts of the mass. To ensure reliable contact, it is recommended to install a terminal clamp on the cable.

When connecting the wires of the Tomahawk TZ 9020, it may be necessary to install additional diodes. For example, many Hyundai models, when the parking brake is applied, are fed to the wire to the limit switch positive momentum. In this case, the alarm is connected directly to the limit switch or to the instrument panel, but through diode decoupling.

The purpose of the wires of the lock control harness is indicated in the table.

Connecting other wires:

  1. The shock detection sensor is equipped with a wire that supplies power and transmits signals from two zones of sensitivity.
  2. The antenna module is connected with a separate five-pin wire.
  3. Install the two-pin wire of the setup button.
  4. If it is planned to use an additional sensor as part of the system, then it is connected to a separate four-pin block. The wiring is similar to the shock sensor.

The general layout of the connectors on the Tomahawk 9020 central unit is shown below.
