Drawings of barbecues made of metal: photo. Simple and rational: we make a brazier from metal with our own hands What metal is better to weld a brazier

Brazier is a convenient and useful culinary equipment for cooking in the heat. This functional invention allows you to cook different foods using natural heat from coals. Despite the fact that it was originally made as a universal cooking tool, today the brazier is the basis for cooking meat and barbecue. Around it, trips to the country and nature are held, seeing off autumn, meeting the arrival of spring and celebrating summer. And below we will provide drawings of metal barbecues, their photos and videos on the technology of manufacturing barbecues of various designs.

Buying a brazier is an expensive purchase. Simple metal structure sometimes it costs large sums, not being justified by the quality or its appearance. Therefore, it is much better to make a brazier with your own hands, using drawings, high-quality metal, as well as your skills.

Barbecue base

Mangal is handy tool cooking in the heat. It is very different solid construction, but all its features are in the nuances. They allow you to quickly and easily cook kebabs and other dishes, providing a sufficient amount of heat for cooking.

Among the main advantages of the brazier it is worth highlighting the following:

  • suitable sizes;
  • air holes;
  • depth;
  • notches for skewers.

Although some of them are obvious, they are all required for quality cooking. As for the depth of the barbecue, it allows you to gain enough heat and place the meat at a height where it will cook, but not burn. Thus, you can put the required amount of wood.

Air holes - especially important nuance these structures. After all, it is precisely because of them that meat that is cooked on the grill is very different from another way of cooking in nature. Regular air supply allows you to keep the temperature and heat of the coals, making full use of the full potential.

Attention! Another nuance of the barbecue is a pallet. It prevents coal from falling through special ventilation holes to the bottom and contributes to partial air regulation.

For further use of the design, sizing is extremely important. After all, cooking takes place on a grill or skewers, so you need to build on its average size. The brazier should be wide, which allows you to place the entire length of the skewer and should give required quantity heat, allow more than eight servings of meat.

And the last nuance is the manufacture of recesses for skewers. They allow you to place the meat in any position, frying it evenly from different sides. This approach plays big role in the preparation of fragrant and juicy shish kebab without burning.

But these points always vary depending on the type of barbecue.

We decide on the type of barbecue: drawings, photos

It should be said right away that there are numerous varieties of such structures. Because everyone wants to find best option where to cook meat and other products in the heat. Today, the following types of barbecue are distinguished:

  1. Normal.

The usual brazier has a square design. Although they are heavy, they can be carried. It often has removable legs.

  1. Collapsible.

Lightweight and small collapsible option that you can carry in your car. It is more comfortable and easier, and also suitable for hiking in the forest.

  1. Stationary.

Powerful brazier made of metal. It can be based on brick blocks, providing high reliability. Often, such barbecues can be supplemented with steel decorations.

The choice of the type of brazier is very responsible for its self-build. Thus, you can decide on the tasks and choose the best option. However, it is recommended to select the normal type as the most universal choice for gardeners.

Attention! Braziers can have a different shape. Round, rectangular, curved and other types are noted, the cooking on which may differ slightly.

Drawings of metal barbecues: photos of different types

Before you make the appropriate drawings and choose the dimensions for the future brazier, for the construction you need to choose the best option that is used most often. It is necessary to select the appropriate width and height of the structure, and the appropriate length of the legs. A drawing of a conventional barbecue is provided as follows:

Dimensions given in millimeters. It is clearly visible on it that the total height of the brazier with a leg length of 70 cm and a length of 95 cm. In this case, the depth of the brazier will be 25 cm, which is the optimal distance from the heat to the skewers.

The width of the brazier is 28 cm, which is slightly lower than the average size of a skewer. The length is 54 cm, you need to evenly distribute 9 servings over the heat.

The upper part of the structure is equipped with gaps for skewers. So, you can evenly distribute the meat and fix it freely during rotation, ensuring uniform frying. Moreover, the distance between the gaps should be 6 cm. It is necessary to leave space between the extreme walls and gaps so that the meat does not touch them, and also does not burn.

Excellent breathability is an important nuance. Here it is achieved as a result of holes with a diameter of 12-15 mm, located on the side walls. The holes are located at the bottom of the metal sheet in a checkerboard pattern. They are not needed on the front side walls.

Attention! The presented design does not imply the presence of a pallet and holes at the bottom of the brazier. You can easily fix this by welding small corners to the bottom or legs and selecting the appropriate sheet of metal.

How to prepare the elements of the future design?

Metal sheets act as the basis for the barbecue. We do not recommend using other materials, as the brazier provides sufficient structural resistance to compactness and heat. The thickness of the metal should be approximately 2-3 mm. For work you will need:

  • Two sheets of metal measuring 280x250 mm and 240x250 mm.
  • One sheet of metal 540x280 mm.
  • Corners 700 mm long and four metal pipes.
  • Welding machine.
  • Drill.
  • Roulette.
  • Saw for metal or grinder.

Most people prefer another build option. different sheets can be replaced with a large metal sheet. By making cuts, you can connect the structure with a small number of welds. Thus, it will turn out to be more reliable.

It is important to take into account additional elements if the design is different from the above. It can be completed with a tray, carrying handles, leg recesses and other details.

First of all, you need to perform preliminary markup. Places of welding and fasteners are marked, special gaps are created. For this, a saw or grinder is used. This step also creates air holes.

Attention! Often such a design is made on reinforcing legs. They are unreliable, as the structure will stagger even with minor loads. Therefore, it is better to replace them with corners.

How to weld a brazier with your own hands

Welding - best solution for the mangal. It is able to withstand high temperature changes and effective bolting. To do this, use a welding machine, regardless of its type. Then the structure is alternately fixed, and welding is performed at the corners.

Attention! For more convenient welding, it is worth using metal corners along the sides. They can also increase the reliability of the seams, as well as significantly weight the structure.

Then comes the welding of the arms and legs. They are fixed along the sides (corners) or to the bottom of the structure (pipes). It is necessary to weld them securely, since the brazier itself will be quite heavy.

Attention! To fix the legs, you can use not a welding machine, but collapsible elements. Removable legs will significantly reduce the dimensions of the brazier during its storage.

Upon completion of the work, it is necessary to grind the seams, and also check the entire structure for reliability.

Metal barbecues with a canopy: drawings

To cook kebabs in bad weather, you can use a special barbecue design. This allows you to hide the heat and meat from precipitation, but in itself this design is not simple. There are two options here:

  • installation of a canopy directly on the barbecue;
  • installation of an additional canopy, which does not apply to the barbecue.

The latter option will be more rational, as it allows you to hide not only kebabs, but also the person who monitors their preparation. The first option requires additional costs, since the base must withstand the load from the canopy.

In this case, we advise you to mount the structure on metal corners. This is the best option as it makes it easier to assemble. The canvas for the canopy is most often corrugated board. It is refractory, does not react in any way to temperature changes and has a low weight, which is important for a lightweight design.

The assembly of the canopy is not much different from the usual one, and only fire protection and proper placement of the base are required. Thus, you can safely cook food without worrying that you can catch on the armature.

It is worth noting that a metal grill with a canopy is difficult option, which is within the power of experienced welders. It is important here to create robust design, the weight of which will be evenly distributed on the base. For stationary braziers, such a canopy is much easier to make, since a supporting foundation can be arranged for them.

The structure with a canopy can be decorated with metal elements, as you can see in the photo. It will not only improve appearance, but also make the canopy more stable and reliable.

Attention! If the roof is low, equip it with a special air duct.

Finished product painting

An important issue in the manufacture of barbecue is painting. It cannot be dispensed with, since the metal used in the structure is subject to rust, and ash and soot do not improve its appearance.

Used for painting special formulations which are subject to the following requirements:

  • heat resistance;
  • resistance to temperature extremes;
  • no harmful fumes.

The following coatings meet these requirements:

  • silicon-organic enamels;
  • heat-resistant paints for various purposes.

It should be noted that painting the barbecue with your own hands is a rather complicated and responsible process. They need special firing, after which they get their properties. Another option is proposed - oxidation. It is quite expensive to execute, but it is possible to make it yourself.

It is better to choose black color for paint. Since there will be a lot of ash and soot nearby, the rest of the coatings will quickly get dirty. On this color, the plaque will be completely invisible.

Attention! Painting should only be done on the outside. Inside, the coating quickly peels off as a result of high heat, and there is no point in this.

Making a brazier with your own hands is quite simple. To do this, you will need a sheet of metal, a welding machine and desire. However, it is worth adhering to the plan and scheme, since in the future any deviations may be reflected in the convenience of its use. But the materials of our site "Remontik", among which drawings of metal barbecues and their photos, as well as videos on manufacturing, will be especially useful, will help to cope with this task.

Such a question, how to cook a brazier for your site, sooner or later confronts every owner of a land plot. Today, an extensive range of large and small factory-made hearths is on sale. Newspapers are full of advertisements for the manufacture of all types of barbecues to order. But quality products are expensive and the available ones are not reliable. Having elementary building knowledge and the ability to handle household tools, you can make a hearth yourself, which will be different refined style, practicality and durability. Consider how to make a barbecue on your own, spending a minimum of effort and money on it.

Before proceeding with the assembly of the brazier, it is necessary to determine its dimensions and materials for manufacturing. most simple design have metal grills. They can be easily assembled in a country workshop or in a garage.

Hearths made of metal are divided into the following types:

  1. Stationary. They are firmly anchored to the ground. Typically installed on reinforced concrete foundation. The dimensions of such structures are quite impressive. On them you can not only fry shish kebab, but also cook pilaf, smoke meat and fish.
  2. Portable. They are made in cases where the brazier is used periodically or only in the warm season. Wearable structures weigh a little, even one person can move them. They have regular legs or wheels.
  3. Collapsible. Can be used on and off site. Transportation of collapsible braziers is carried out in a backpack or in a car. A variety of portable foci are folding products. Knowing how to properly weld a folding brazier, you can make a compact and lightweight hearth, which in size and weight does not differ from a small suitcase.

After the final decision on the type of future brazier is made, it is necessary to make drawings with a detailed image of each fragment of the hearth.

The brazier scheme should include the following information:

  • legs;
  • frame;
  • base (bottom);
  • sides;
  • grate;
  • lid.

In order to make the hearth more convenient and functional, you can equip it with a firewood shelf, a small folding or pull-out table. Having welded the brazier with your own hands, you can decorate it with home-made or purchased forged elements.

Tools and materials

In order to make a brazier out of iron, the standard set of tools that are in a private house and in the country is enough.

For work you will need:

  • welding machine;
  • Bulgarian;
  • electric drill;
  • level;
  • square;
  • a hammer;
  • screwdriver;
  • file;
  • core;
  • roulette
  • miter box.

If you assemble the brazier without welding, then you must have a set of wrenches and pliers for tightening the bolts.

To do iron brazier, you will need the following materials:

  • steel corner 25 mm;
  • sheet steel 3 mm thick;
  • fittings;
  • packaging of electrodes;
  • sandpaper;
  • paint brush;
  • anticorrosive impregnation;
  • refractory paint;
  • fixing material (bolts, nuts, rivets).

Do-it-yourself brazier welding can also be carried out from auxiliary materials that are in any household. Consider the options for making various foci at home.

Stationary brazier from hire

Most often, factory-made rolled metal is used to assemble these products. This is due to the fact that the new steel has a clear shape and no wear. It is easy to work with sheet metal and corners even for a novice master.

So, we weld the brazier from rolled metal in the following sequence:

  1. Material preparation. Sheet iron and corner are fired blowtorch. This allows you to completely clean the material from factory grease.
  2. Frame. It is made from a steel corner. Segments 60 cm and 30 cm long are cut from it with a grinder. After adjusting the corners, the workpieces are welded into a solid rectangle. Handles made of bent reinforcement are welded to its ends.
  3. Bottom. The grinder cuts a workpiece with such dimensions that it can be laid on the frame. The sides of the base are processed with a file. Holes with a diameter of 10-12 mm are drilled in the plate in a checkerboard pattern at a distance of 5 cm. The bottom is welded to the frame with a continuous seam.
  4. Sidewalls. From the remnants of a sheet of metal, 2 rectangles sized 20x30 cm and 20x60 cm are cut out. At a distance of 3 cm from the bottom of the sides, holes of 10 mm in diameter are made with an interval of 6-8 cm. After that, the sides are welded to the base and along the edges. Triangular notches for skewers are cut out on the upper part of the sidewalls with a grinder. Optimal depth cuts - 3-4 cm, the distance between them is 10 cm, and from the edges of the hearth - 5 cm.
  5. Lid. It is made from a single piece of sheet steel. The workpiece is applied to the side, a mark is made on it with a core with a margin of 1 cm in all directions, another 3 cm are added for bending. A rectangle is cut out according to the markup. Squares with a side of 3 cm are cut off at its corners. The edges are bent, their side joints are welded together. A handle and stoppers are fixed on the lid for fixing in a raised state.
  6. Grids. They are made of reinforcement so that the rods do not block the holes in the bottom. 4-6 columns 2 cm high are welded to the grate.
  7. Legs. As a rule, they are made from a corner. But expensive rolled metal can be replaced with old ones. water pipes remaining after repair. The advantage of this solution is not only savings. Pipe legs can be made removable by screwing them to the couplings welded to the frame.

The final stage in the manufacture of a steel brazier is its cleaning from soot and rust, priming and painting.

Making a barbecue from a barrel

Such a solution will allow the master to significantly reduce the cost of building materials. The body of the barrel is a finished blank for the body. You just need to cut it, fill it with contents and reassemble it. When choosing a barrel, you need to make sure that it has not previously been used to store petroleum products. Even metal absorbs a specific smell, which is almost impossible to get rid of. To make a hearth, you should stop at a long narrow barrel with a capacity of 100-150 liters. According to its configuration, it is best suited for making a hearth. To avoid a possible explosion of product vapors during cutting and welding, the barrel must be thoroughly washed with warm soapy water. Cutting should be carried out with the plug open to allow the hot air to escape.

The manufacture of a brazier from a barrel is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. The tank is marked. It must be made so that its lower part is 2/3 of the total volume, and the drain hole is on top. According to the markup, metal cutting is carried out. It is best to do this with a grinder. The edges of the halves are cleaned of burrs, sharp corners are rounded with a file.
  2. Legs are welded to the bottom of the hearth. They are made from a corner, plumbing round pipes or rectangular profile pipe. Legs can be straight or curved. It is advisable to fix a shelf on the bottom of the legs. It can store firewood, dishes and other accessories for a picnic.
  3. The place where the grate will be installed is marked. It must be fixed at a distance of 14-16 cm from the sides of the lower part. Small stops are welded along the marks. Measurements are taken, the grate is welded according to the obtained dimensions.
  4. In the bottom of the lower and upper parts of the barrel, holes with a diameter of 8-12 mm are drilled with an interval of 10 cm. You need to make holes in a checkerboard pattern so as not to weaken the structure.
  5. Triangular recesses are cut in the edges of the lower container for laying skewers. Optimal distance between the slots is considered 10 cm.
  6. The lower and upper parts of the barrel are connected using a pair door hinges. The hinges are fastened to the walls of the hearth by welding or bolts. A handle is installed on the lid. A stopper is made from a steel bar to fix the lid in a half-open position.
  7. A chimney is being made. It is used in cases where the brazier is used as a smokehouse. Pipe with bend is screwed to drain hole barrels. After the end of smoking, the pipe is removed, and the hole is plugged with a regular plug.

The final stage in the manufacture of a brazier from a barrel is the cleaning of the metal from rust and soot, the treatment of the product from corrosion and the coating with refractory paint.

Making a folding brazier

The main requirement for a folding hearth is its lightness. If you plan to transport a collapsible hearth in a backpack, then it must be clean. For this, stainless steel should be chosen as the raw material for work. This material is resistant to corrosion, easily washed from carbon deposits and fatty deposits. To weld it, you need to correctly set the average power on the device so as not to burn through thin steel.

A portable wearable brazier is made of stainless steel in the following sequence:

  1. Bottom making. It is made of sheet steel in the form of a bowl measuring 40x60 cm with curved edges 40 mm high. Holes with a diameter of 8-10 mm are drilled in the bottom.
  2. Sides cut out. They are attached to the base with small stainless steel door hinges. Triangular cuts up to 20 mm deep are made on the upper edges of the sides.
  3. Legs are made from reinforcement, to which bolts are welded. Nuts are welded at the bottom of the base at the corners.
  4. A cover is made, which is rigidly fixed on the base.

The final stage is the arrangement of the product with carrying handles.

Barbecues are sold today in a wide range. But if you have good instruction, equipment, consumables and, of course, desire, you can make a brazier with your own hands from metal.

Do-it-yourself metal brazier

Construction types

To begin with, decide on the type of future design, since the brazier happens:

  1. stationary;
  2. collapsible.

Stationary type structures are multifunctional, because by adding some elements, you can additionally get a smokehouse or a grill. Moreover, they are able to really decorate a suburban area.

And here mobile devices compact, making it easy to fit even in the car trunk, which is ideal for outdoor recreation. The design can be folding or collapsible.

What will be required at work?

Despite the fact that there are different designs, the list of everything you need is generally the same. Only the amount of consumable material can differ, because if it is planned to manufacture an overall stationary product with a roof, then, of course, more material will be required in this case. In a word, prepare for work:

  1. welding;
  2. screwdriver;
  3. grinder with circles to it;
  4. square;
  5. electric drill;
  6. roulette;
  7. electric jigsaw;
  8. a sheet of metal a few millimeters thick, iron barrel or balloon;
  9. wheels (required for a collapsible barbecue);
  10. corners measuring 2x2 centimeters;
  11. handle, hinges;
  12. fasteners;
  13. pipe with square section in 2x2 centimeters.

Note! There are many varieties of designs, so check out the most popular of them in order to choose the most optimal option.

Do-it-yourself brazier from a metal barrel

The design described in this paragraph of the article may be without a cover or with it. In the second case, halves of the container are used, in the first - the whole. But regardless of the option chosen, you should first sketch out a drawing of the planned product.

Below is a figure that allows you to understand all the elements and their sizes. You can refine this design if you like, but finished drawing in any case will help in the manufacture.

After that, you should prepare the elements from which the brazier will subsequently be assembled.

Note! This should start with the main thing, namely the barrel. You need to cut it.

To do this, use one of two methods:

After that, carefully clean all sections, remove burrs. Next, determine the dimensions of the corners needed to frame the opening. Cut pipes or corners for stands and legs, then prepare fasteners - it is advisable to purchase the latter with a small margin.

Option number 1

The easiest way to build a brazier from 1/2 barrels than to fix the lid on the front wall. For ease of use, start by arranging stands. In this case, pipes will be required, which can have both rectangular and round sections.

Step 1. If you cannot bend the pipe to the dimensions of the barrel, then, having made preliminary calculations, weld a corner from a pair of pipes, and then weld two more pipes to it, connected to the letter "T". Make the second leg in the same way. Connect them together with a jumper, although you can use metal basket for storing firewood.

Step 2. After that, install 1/2 barrels on these legs and weld it to them. It is advisable to immediately start cleaning the welds so that this do-it-yourself metal barbecue element is left alone.

Step 3. Now start working on the half itself. First, weld a corner to its edges so that the design looks more neat. A kind of shelf has formed, on which you will put the skewers.

Note! If the brazier will also be used as a grill, then fix the racks for the latter as shown in the diagram.

Step 4. If you use the second half of the barrel as a lid, then scald it with a corner. For greater convenience during operation, attach a handle and a holder with fasteners to the lid. You can install it on one or both sides of the structure.

Step 5. Lay a grid on top of the half-barrel so that the structure can also be used as a barbecue. To fix the grid, screw special stands around the edges.

Step 6. Make holes in the walls of the lower half to improve traction.

Option number 2

Here the barrel does not need to be cut into two parts. Instead, cut a pre-marked rectangle out of it. At such a brazier, food that will be cooked on a flame will be reliably protected from the wind thanks to the back wall. In the pictures you see the installation of a barbecue grill.

Note! If you resorted to this option, then no welding of the edges of the barrel is required - they will be cleaned and rounded without it.

Otherwise, the work is carried out in the same way as described above, but the hinges are attached to the lid and the upper part of the structure. The holder for the cover in this model is not required, because, leaning back, it rests against upper part corps.

It is also worth noting that this brazier can also be made a part-time smokehouse. For this purpose, attach a chimney to the side. As you know, at the top of all barrels there is a hole with a cork, which you can use just to fix the chimney. But this moment should be planned in advance, before starting to cut the barrel, since the hole described should be located exclusively in the upper part of the body.

If required, arrange shelves on both sides of the barbecue (as described earlier). For this purpose, weld iron brackets to the body, and fix the coating on them (it can be either made of wood or metal).

Note! Barbecues are also built from propane cylinders in a similar way. But remember that they are narrower, therefore, they will require shorter skewers.

If desired, any do-it-yourself barbecue made of metal from those described above can be equipped with wheels for more convenient transportation. Although these structures are mobile only on the territory of the site, since it is very inconvenient to transport them somewhere.

Cylinders and barrels are ideal for making barbecue. And this is due to the unlimited scope for imagination. Would you like to see this for yourself? Then be sure to watch the video below.

We use metal sheets

And if you use the brazier only on the site, without taking it outside, then it is more advisable not to complicate your life, but to resort to simple option making a stationary model. You can only move it around the site, and install it on a hard surface.

Traditionally, first make a drawing. It is quite simple to do this, since any special complex elements not in the design. After purchasing everything you need, make blanks for future components, based on a previously drawn up diagram.

As an alternative, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with already finished scheme and, relying on it, compose your own, adding there necessary elements which will make operation easier and more convenient.

Step 1. For work, you will need the following:

  1. a sheet of metal a few millimeters thick;
  2. metal corner 1x1 cm for the manufacture of the frame and legs.

Note! If it is planned to install one or two shelves, then they will also require corners.

Step 2. Next, mark the future structural elements on the sheet of metal. If the metal is not too thick (about 2 millimeters), then simply bend it, thereby getting rid of welding work by connecting the hull to the bottom. In this case, at the end of the preliminary marking, cut out 4 rectangles - the result will be a cross.

Step 3. The central part of the cross will serve as the bottom of the case, the other four will serve as machines. Bend these walls at an angle of 90 degrees relative to the bottom element.

Step 5. In the lower part of those sides of the box that are larger, make holes so that oxygen enters the coals. But in the upper part of these sides, make cutouts to make it convenient to put the skewers.

Step 5. After that, build a frame from the corners, where you later install the case with the base under the shelves.

Step 6. On top of the frame, you can install a mesh made of steel wire. Remember that it will be convenient to put dishes or a cutting board on such a grid.

Step 7. From the bottom, equip another grid (or a basket - as you like), in which firewood would be stored.

Note! If you want, you can make different patterns on the walls using the same wire.

Step 8 After that, clean all surfaces with a metal brush, then paint with heat-resistant paint - the latter will prevent not only the formation of corrosion, but also burning out.

As soon as the paint dries, you can start testing your brainchild - a do-it-yourself brazier made of metal!

Portable (collapsible) brazier on their own

Let us immediately note that this collapsible option It will be useful not only in the house, but even in the apartment. Due to its compactness, it does not take up much space, you can easily place it on a shelf in a closet or pantry. You can use it both for outdoor recreation and, say, in your yard. high-rise building(following all fire safety rules, of course).

Note! When planning further work, take into account the fact that when folded, the structure will look like a suitcase, which will contain everything that may be needed for frying meat.

For example, the standard length of skewers for a hike is 60 centimeters, therefore, the brazier itself can be only 65 centimeters long, and 45 centimeters wide (when unfolded).

The design that you see in the image is quite easy to make on your own. But for work you will need:

  1. steel sheet 3 mm thick;
  2. steel wire, which will be used to form the mesh, as an option - a ready-made mesh;
  3. corners 1x1 centimeter for strengthening the walls and making coasters;
  4. metal rod with a diameter of 0.8 centimeters for the handle;
  5. loops that will connect the halves of the body;
  6. folding legs.

Now, having prepared everything you need, proceed directly to work.

Manufacturing instructions

Step 1. First, make a drawing that will indicate all required dimensions. This will prevent possible improvements products in the future due to inaccuracies.

Step 2. After that, draw future elements on metal sheets, cut them out. These elements should include:

  1. a square measuring 40-x40 centimeters, which will subsequently be cut into two triangles - the latter are designed to rigidly hold the structure;
  2. two walls of the case - approximately 40x63 centimeters;
  3. pieces of a metal corner - four pieces of 63 centimeters, four of 40 centimeters - for coasters and framing.

Step 3. Then proceed to the construction of folding legs, using movable fasteners (such as furniture ones) for this. To do this, cut four strips of metal 10 cm wide, although you can use all the same corners. These strips can be 40-60 centimeters long, although it is worth remembering that the higher the support legs are, the less stable the structure will be.

Note! After preparing everything you need, assembly begins directly. This should be done especially carefully - in this case, your product will not differ in any way from the "shop".

Step 4. First, clean the back and front walls, then scald three sides of each wall with a steel corner.

Step 5. Mark out where the mesh will be laid in the structure, attach stands from the corners in the appropriate places.

Step 7. Attach the support legs to the sides of the product so that they can be moved apart and folded without much difficulty. To easily install the side walls, the brazier in the open position should have an angle of 45 degrees.

Step 8. From above, in the side panels, weld 2 holes for installing handles (curved metal rods). If you want, you can also put a special hook that will prevent the assembled structure from opening.

At the end, assemble the brazier with your own hands from metal, lay the grid and try to make the first barbecue.

Note! To make the design truly multifunctional, you can make a barbecue attachment.

To this end, cut and weld five structural elements. These are special side nozzles, curved at the bottom at a 45-degree angle (you can install them if necessary instead of triangles on the sides). You will also need a grill for installation on top and a pair of frontal paintings of great length. By the way, with one more interesting option production you can see from the video below.

Protecting from rust

Any structure made of metal always needs protection against corrosion. Only in this case it will be possible to operate it longer, and external indicators will not deteriorate over time. You can, for example, paint a homemade brazier with paint. But remember that you can only use heat-resistant paint, which can be purchased at any automotive store in the form of an aerosol can (it is used to paint vehicle mufflers).

You can also resort to alternative- that is, a change in the structure of the metal. There is such a process (burning), during which the surface of the metal is covered with a heat-resistant black film. To burn the brazier yourself, first clean it of dirt and grease, then place the product in a solution of caustic soda (500 grams per ten liters of water) and keep it there for one and a half to two hours at a temperature of 140 C.

As a conclusion

As you can see, the manufacture of a brazier is not a super complicated procedure - if there is necessary equipment and minimal experience with it, you can handle it in about a day or two, but at the same time save a significant amount! And if you approach the work responsibly, do it with high quality, then your offspring will practically not differ in any way from their “store” counterparts.

Actually, that's all. Good luck with your work!

Brazier is the main attribute of a country picnic and comfortable country rest. You can buy this accessory today in any supermarket. Unfortunately, almost all factory designs are made from thin metal, which after the first "barbecue season" begins to deform and burn out.

The system of assembly of the frying box is not always thought out by the creators, the connections of which, when used, turn out to be inconvenient and unreliable.

Knowing the problems of serial barbecues, home craftsmen prefer braziers own production. In addition to the impressive strength that distinguishes homemade designs, they allow the creators to fully express their talent and creative invention. It is for these reasons that we will consider in detail the topic of how to make a metal grill with your own hands convenient, durable and beautiful.

In addition to traditional designs, among homemade products you can find unique options. Each of them can be copied without any problems, decorating your summer cottage with an original and useful frying installation.

Design options for metal grills

The simplest and easiest to make barbecue for camping conditions- two U-shaped metal racks stuck into the ground. They take up minimal space in a backpack and are quickly brought to " working position". The only drawback of this system is its low height.

It will not work to put such a brazier at a level convenient for baking, because the fire here is bred right on the ground. Otherwise, this design captivates users with its practicality.

The classic metal brazier - a box with legs also has the right to camping life. Only for this it needs to be made folding in order to reduce the dimensions.

For this, window hinges are most often used, welding them to the bottom and long side walls. The end sides of such a brazier are inserted into the sides of the bottom and fastened from above to the side walls with the help of hooks.

A useful detail that you should pay attention to is the holes for adjusting the frying height. Thanks to them, you do not have to re-ignite the hearth to “turn up the heat”.

If you think that the fantasy of home-made people is limited to a banal frying box with holes, then we will easily convince you.

Childhood memories of pirate battles inspired the author with the idea of a barbecue-chest with treasures mounted on two scimitar swords. In addition to the usual frying of kebabs, such a box with a lid can be used as a mini-smoker. To do this, you will need to provide the structure with a small exhaust pipe.

In general, forging is a win-win decoration for any brazier. With its help, you can easily turn an ordinary iron brazier into a real work of "country art".

A useful detail of this design is the side shelf. On it you can lay out kebabs that have undergone a heat treatment process. Below you can make a grate for laying firewood.

Anyone can make a forged brazier today home craftsman. This does not require building a home forge and buying a blacksmith's hammer. It is enough to look into the construction supermarket and purchase forged decorative elements there. Fixing them to a metal box and legs is a simple matter.

A steel brazier for a summer residence should be not only beautiful, but also mobile. Therefore, we advise you to pay attention to the mobile version of such a frying hearth.

It can be easily moved to any place in the suburban area, hiding from sudden rain or the scorching rays of the sun. Equipping the brazier with a handy skewer, you can try your hand at the art of roasting upland game.

Of course, you will not take such a frying structure with you into the forest. However, it will look at suburban area no worse than stationary.

And here is a copy with a roof that protects the owner from the vagaries of changeable weather. The rotary holder for the cauldron, which expands the possibilities of this hearth, deserves special attention.

Do not rush to part with your grandmother's inheritance and hand over sewing machine with a foot drive into scrap metal. Better see how great her cast-iron bed looks like as a support platform for the barbecue.

The smoke from the brazier disturbs the creative imagination of craftsmen. Why not make an original brazier-steam locomotive, they think, sitting down at the drawing?

The main part of this brazier is the old gas cylinder. Having welded wheels, a pipe and a driver’s platform to it, you will pleasantly surprise your friends and neighbors. By the way, the pipe in this case is not a simple decoration, but a channel for the exit of smoke. Such a hearth with a smokehouse can be successfully used for roasting meat and cooking other homemade delicacies.

The military theme, covered in smoke and fire, often finds its expression in original installations.

A car enthusiast who is friends with a grinder and welding will gladly make old car original brazier. Good thing that special efforts such work is not required. A traditional frying box with a grill is placed in the engine compartment and the design is ready to go.

Some craftsmen manage to make such a brazier mobile, supplying it with a full-fledged suspension with springs.

Take a look around. You will see a lot of unnecessary metal items that can be used to make a barbecue.

An old steel barrel is an almost finished brazier. Yes, not simple, but elegant and functional. By cutting out part of the sidewall, you can make a swivel cover out of it. A frying grate is placed inside the container or two supporting corners are welded for installing skewers.

Rims. What could be better and easier for making a country barbecue? They have all the attributes of such a hearth: round form, holes for ventilation and thick metal that will not burn through the fire soon. The only improvement that needs to be made is the installation inside the disk steel sheet with holes.

The native slots on the disc are a little too big, so small coals will fall through them. From above, a steel holder for skewers can be adapted into the rim or simply a frying grate of a suitable diameter can be mounted on it.

Optimal dimensions and ease of use

Other people's ideas are good, but how to make such a brazier yourself, you ask? First you need to decide for how many people kebabs will be most often prepared. If only members of your family (3-4 people) are among the lucky ones, then optimal dimensions- length 40, and width 30 cm. The last size is the length of the skewer excluding the handle. It cannot be increased so that the steel rod with meat does not fall into the brazier.

If the brazier will serve a large company, then its length is calculated according to the scheme of 8-10 cm per 1 skewer. That is, for a company of 6 people, a frying box with a length of 50 to 60 cm is needed with a constant width of 30 cm. A more voluminous box should not be made so that there is no overspending of firewood.

The optimal depth of the roaster is 15-20 cm. This is quite enough to ensure that the temperature during baking is high enough, but the meat does not burn.

Ergonomics is another factor to consider when sketching out a diagram of a future brazier. Its height from the ground should be such that you do not have to constantly bend over, turning the kebabs. Lower your arm, bend it slightly at the elbow and measure the distance from the ground to your fingertips. The resulting size is the optimal height of the barbecue with legs.

The thickness of the sheet for the brazier must also be chosen correctly. Connoisseurs say that 2 mm black or stainless steel. A thinner sheet burns through quickly, and a thicker one is difficult to process and increases the weight of the structure.

An example of making a simple metal barbecue

The set of tools for this job is obvious:

  • Roulette;
  • Core (for stuffing holes before drilling);
  • Bulgarian;
  • Electric drill;
  • Welding machine.

The first step to start production homemade barbecue from metal, - cutting sheet steel. Having marked the dimensions of the bottom and side walls on it, we cut out all the blanks with a grinder. At the bottom of the long side walls, we need to make holes for air to enter. To do this, we fix a 6 or 8 mm drill in the drill chuck and make ventilation (the distance between the centers of the holes is 3-4 cm).

More rational option- do not cut out all the parts separately, but make cuts in the sheet with a grinder, so that later they can be bent into a three-dimensional structure.

Having bent the cut sheet into a volumetric box, we weld the joints of the walls. This can be done not with a continuous, but with a tack weld, so that the metal is less deformed. For better fixation of skewers on the upper ribs of long walls, shallow grooves can be cut.

The next operation is welding the legs. It is better to make them removable so that the brazier can be transported in the car. To do this, some craftsmen use nuts, welding them to the bottom of the bottom. Then threaded rods are screwed into them. We'll take it easy and use the lower parts of the old door hinges. They have an eye for welding tacking and enough deep hole for installing a steel pin-leg.

Our barbecue is ready for the first barbecue. All operations for its cutting and assembly will take no more than 2 hours.

In this article, we will consider options for how to build barbecues with your own hands from metal: dimensions, photos and drawings, as well as step-by-step instructions are attached! Let's talk about the advantages of such structures, as well as the properties of the steel from which they are made. The following are the four master classes in detail.

  • First of all, we will tell you how to make a brazier from a gas cylinder: a photo instruction with explanations will not let you make mistakes during installation. We will use a standard cylinder of 50 liters.;
  • The second chapter contains instructions for installing a barbecue from metal barrel 200l;
  • Next, we will discuss the standard portable type construction of 5mm heat-resistant steel. A drawing of a metal brazier with dimensions is also attached, we specially made it for this master class.
  • In conclusion, we will tell you how to build a portable camping sheet brazier from 3mm steel.
You will learn how to make metal

Advantages of metal grills

The metal brazier has a number of advantages. Their main ones include:

  • strength and reliability;
  • low cost. The cost of creating such a design is much lower than products on sale;
  • mobility - it is simple and easy to install, and also transferred around the site.
  • freedom of creativity. Since you make this product yourself, you can decorate it the way you want;
  • durability. Such a brazier will serve you for more than a dozen years with proper operation and strengthening of the bottom of the structure;

Braziers of different heights

However, this design also has several significant drawbacks:

  • material will rust over time. Especially under the influence of adverse factors external environment such as moisture. However, if you choose the wrong metal for manufacturing, the walls will rather lead to the structure;
  • the process of preparing a barbecue or other dish in a metal barbecue is inferior to that which takes place in a brick structure, since this material retains heat worse;
  • you must have the skills to work with a welding machine to make a brazier with your own hands from metal. Drawings, photos and dimensions from the team of our site will help with this;
  • barbecues assembled from gas cylinders are quite heavy, so it is not always convenient to move them around the site. For more comfortable movement, such designs are made on wheels.

To make a project on your own, you need to understand at least superficially the grades of heat-resistant steel. More on this later.

From a barrel on legs

Characteristics of heat resistant steel

In this block, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the characteristics of heat-resistant steel. It is from it that we propose to make a brazier (the third master class), because. structural integrity and resistance to deformation over time - this is the main task. The second point is to make sure that the steel rusts for as long as possible.

As suitable metals we propose to consider the characteristics of 2 grades of heat-resistant steel: 09g2s, 15khsnd (nl-2). In addition to their heat-resistant qualities, they have several advantages:

  • long rust;
  • in stores you can buy a thickness of 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 6mm. In general, this thickness is enough to implement the project (15KhSND (NL-2) only 6mm and more). A metal thickness of 6mm is suitable if you want to make a solid stationary brazier (it is heavy);
  • great for cutting and cutting.

09G2S - decoding and properties of steel

09GS2 - low-alloy structural steel with increased endurance limit. This brand is widely used for cooking steel structures, including suitable for barbecues. Use this steel grade if you want to make a portable one.

On sale you can find sheets with a thickness of 2 mm, which is ideal for portable barbecues and barbecues. However, nothing prevents you from making a stationary barbecue from the 09G2S steel grade. For a more detailed acquaintance with the properties during heating, we suggest studying the table below.

The decoding of steel 09G2S is carried out as follows:

  1. 09-0.9% carbon content;
  2. G- Contains manganese;
  3. 2 - manganese 2%;
  4. C - silicon, less than 1%.

15HSND (NL-2) - decoding and properties of steel

Steel 15HSND (nl-2) has excellent physical properties when exposed high temperatures and resistance to overheating. This quality allows it to be used when cooking thick-walled structures, including barbecues.

Such steel is more suitable for stationary structures than for portable ones, due to its thickness - at least 6mm. How 15HSND (NL-2) behaves at elevated temperatures can be seen in the table

15HSND is deciphered as follows:

  1. 15 - 0.15% carbon
  2. X - Chrome 0.6-0.9%
  3. C - Silicon 0.4-0.7%
  4. N - Nickel 0.3-0.6%
  5. D - Copper 0.2-0.4%

If you have not yet decided which of these steel grades should be purchased for the manufacture of a metal barbecue, rely on the price in your city and the availability of steel on sale.

Carry out preparatory work

Before proceeding to the main stage of work, it is necessary to properly prepare.

  1. Decide on the type of installation. Will the structure be stationary or portable? Basically, metal barbecues can be easily transported and installed anywhere;
  2. Decide where you will install the structure. At the same time, it doesn’t matter whether it will be a portable or stationary installation, in any case, the heat from it can harm your vegetation, trees, or other elements on the site.
  3. Dimensions, photos of the brazier with their own hands made of metal are well known. Basically, they are within the following limits: width - from 50 to 120 cm, and depth - from 15 to 20 cm.

These barbecue sizes are optimal. They allow you to place a grill, several skewers and coals inside. At the same time, the latter do not touch the product that is being prepared.

How to make a brazier from a gas cylinder: photo instruction!

This design is based on a gas cylinder with a volume of 50 liters. Its length reaches 96 cm, which makes it easy to place 9 skewers in it. If you want to learn how to make a barbecue from a propane tank with your own hands, follow these steps:

  1. prepare necessary tools and materials;
  2. design the look of your future barbecue;
  3. prepare the balloon for cutting;
  4. cut the balloon;
  5. install the cover;
  6. make a stand;
  7. make holes for skewers, as well as ventilation;
  8. paint.

How to make a brazier from a gas cylinder: do-it-yourself photo instruction

Tools and materials

To make a barbecue from a gas cylinder, we need tools and materials:

Instruments:

  • Bulgarian;
  • welding machine;
  • drill;
  • wrench;
  • ruler..

Materials:

  • old propane tank;
  • handle with wooden insert;
  • rivets;
  • professional pipe;
  • corner;
  • strip.

Drawing, project, scheme

Now you need to prepare do-it-yourself brazier drawings from metal in the photo. Take a ruler and chalk and measure the cutting lines on the balloon according to the given dimensions. The dimensions of the brazier from a gas cylinder with your own hands in this project should be as follows:

  • The length of the gas cylinder is 960 mm.
  • The standard height (and in our case both height and width) of the gas cylinder from which we make the project is 290 mm. We cut the lid exactly in the middle - 145 mm.
  • cut length - 884 mm;
  • the number of holes for the skewer - 9 pieces of 5x11 mm;
  • handle dimensions - 260 mm;

All other data are shown in the drawing.

Legend:

And two more tips:

  • Leg height. Average height men - 175 cm, women - 162 cm. Consider this when laying the height at which the brazier from the propane cylinder will be located. We recommend using a leg height of 80 cm.
  • steel thickness. As mentioned earlier in the article in the paragraph “Characteristics of heat-resistant steel”, it is advisable to use from 2 to 6 mm, depending on the purpose and type of steel.

Preparing a cylinder for a barbecue (we pump out gas)

First we need to prepare the balloon itself for cutting. Usually there are gas residues in old cylinders that need to be removed. For this you need:

  1. Open the valve and put the bottle on the side. if it comes out of gas, wait until it comes out completely.
  2. Unscrew the top shot of the faucet with two gas wrenches. After that, some more gas should come out of the cylinder.
  3. We bring a hose with water to the cylinder and open the water. We wait until it is completely filled.

Step-by-step instructions on how to make a brazier from a propane tank

After the cylinder is completely filled with water, you can start cutting metal:

  1. We install a cover for a barbecue from a propane cylinder. To do this, we completely cut it along the previously outlined lines (as in the drawing).
  2. We drill holes in the lid and the cylinder with a drill, after which we fasten it with the help of corners and then with rivets.
  3. We weld the handle with a wooden insert so as not to get burned
  4. We make a stand. To do this, we take 4 parts of the professional pipe, each with a size of 15x15x800. Also a corner of 850 mm, 1750 mm strips, and two more parts of the pipe 15x15x280. Next, we bend two parts of the strip of 450 mm each to fit the shape of the balloon, cook. We weld two pieces of a professional pipe 280 mm from the bottom to our frame for stability. We connect the professional pipe with a corner of 850 mm from above and the remains of a strip measuring 850 mm from below. Do-it-yourself stand for a barbecue from a gas cylinder, as in the photo, is ready.
  5. Make holes with a 8.5 mm drill in the base of the cylinder - for ventilation.
  6. Make holes for the skewers. On the front side 5x11 mm, this is the best option. With back side make with a 11 mm drill.
  7. For more convenient movement and operation, weld handles on both sides. We would also advise welding a shelf on the right side.

We improve and strengthen

As for improvements - here you are free to do whatever you want, do not be afraid to experiment. Can add small table in front of the brazier from a propane cylinder, make another small brazier next to it and turn the whole structure into a wonderful smokehouse.

Brazier smokehouse from a gas cylinder

Another “upgrade” of your brazier can be to strengthen the place on which it is placed. To do this, we recommend that you read our other article on this topic.

You can also make such barbecues with a metal roof - photos will be presented at the end of the article.

Examples of barbecue from a gas cylinder

We hope that after reading this article on construction homemade barbecue from a propane tank, you have discovered a lot of new and useful things. We wish you good luck with your build!

And as usual, finally, we attach you a photo gallery of examples of barbecue from cylinders from professional gardeners.

We build a brazier from a barrel with our own hands

To build a brazier from a barrel with your own hands, you must first familiarize yourself with its dimensions and characteristics.

Barbecue metal barrel 882 mm long, 595 mm in diameter. As a rule, such 200 liter barrels have the following characteristics:

Now let's move on to the construction of the grill. In this case, a drawing of a brazier made of metal with dimensions is not needed, since there is nothing complicated in the installation of such a design. The technology is the same as in the case of construction.
We take a metal barrel and make markings using a long ruler or board, as shown in the photo.

With a 6 mm drill we make 4 holes on each side. Please note that you must have bolts with the same diameter. Later we will attach the hinges for the lid here. The dimensions between the holes depend on which hinges you are using. Measure the distance directly on the spot.

We cut with a grinder with small teeth along the already marked line.

The lid will occupy about a quarter of the entire circumference of the homemade brazier from the barrel.

Having cut the lid on all sides, we take it out of the barrel.

Let's use grinder on metal to align the metal at the cut points.

The next step is to insert the screws with nuts into the loops in the pre-prepared holes so that the lid can open and close. The fixation is shown in the photo.

Now it's time to make metal legs for the barbecue with your own hands. We take an old iron corner and outline two segments of 170 cm each - these will be our legs, which we can attach to the barrel without using a welding machine.

As a result, we get a leg 85 cm long - quite comfortable for an average human height (keep in mind that the legs are not perpendicular to the ground at 90 degrees). When making such barbecues with your own hands from metal, the dimensions in the photo will help a lot.

To attach the legs to the barrel, we lay it as shown in the photo and drill 3 holes with an 8 mm drill. One on top and two on the sides of the barbecue. Don't forget you must have 8mm bolts.

We insert a screw with a nut and washer into the hole, thus fixing the resulting leg. In the remaining holes we twist on the screw and wind on the nut.

To make a handle, we take a small bar, we drive two self-tapping screws into it from both ends. We also drill two holes in the lid. Next, the handle with self-tapping screws is attached to the barrel lid with screws and washers. Dimensions can be done by eye. If you can’t by eye, take 170 mm distance between the holes. Now it remains only to make a grid, and a do-it-yourself barbecue grill from a barrel with your own hands will be ready!

Bon appetit!

We suggest you look at other options for a photo of a barbecue grill from a barrel.

Making a brazier from heat-resistant steel

It's time to consider the third version of the brazier made of metal with your own hands. This time we use a sheet of steel 5 mm - 0.6 sq.m., a corner of 50 - 270 cm, a professional pipe 15x15 - 3 meters, bolts 4 pieces M8x50, 8 nuts M8 and 8 washers D-8.

The first step is to make a drawing of the brazier. The design parameters will be:

  • width 600 mm;
  • length 300 mm;
  • height 200 mm;
  • total height with legs 800 mm;
  • the distance between the slots for skewers is 60 mm.
  • all other data you can see in the diagram below.

Dimensional drawing

Aligning the side plates simple brazier from metal and make tacks using a welding machine.

The next step will be to markup for future ventilation holes. We will drill in three iterations - 5 mm, 8 mm and 12 mm, gradually increasing the diameter of the cut.

We mark the slots for skewers and then cut them out with a grinder. The distance between the slots in our case is 60 mm. Let's make 9 cuts with a depth of 8 mm.

We collect the walls for tacks.

We weld the arms and legs. We use a pre-prepared professional pipe 15x15 and corners.

Full height 80 cm.

This is the end of the job! We offer you to watch the video of the brazier with your own hands.

The simplest collapsible brazier made of metal

The simplest brazier can fit in an ordinary umbrella case, for example! Well, if you do not want to transfer the umbrella cover, then sew a new one.

The dimensions of a simple collapsible portable barbecue are as follows:

  • crossbar length 500 mm;
  • leg length 450 mm;
  • crossbar width - 30 mm;
  • leg width - 10 mm;
  • steel thickness - 3 mm;

To make a collapsible brazier with your own hands from metal, follow the instructions.

The brazier is driven into the ground with a hammer next to the fire
You can cool it in water, or just wait.

Conveniently folds into a single design

The size is very attractive to take with you on a hike, fishing or just to nature.

How to paint a brazier and protect it from corrosion

And now let's answer the question of how to paint a metal grill. It is necessary to paint the installation after completion of all work, preferably acrylic paint in a can (requires protection in the form of gloves, a respirator and overalls) or heat-resistant varnishes KO/08, KO/815. This stage is the final one. It solves several problems:

  1. The design is given a complete look - it is pleasant to use a beautiful outwardly brazier than a peeled one.
  2. Heat-resistant paint for metal for barbecue will protect the structure. As a result, the corrosion process will slow down.
  3. Since the paint creates a smooth surface, it simplifies the process of cleaning a homemade metal brazier from soot after use.

Braziers with a metal roof: photos and benefits

Using one of step by step instructions and having built a metal brazier for a summer residence, you need to think about the roof for it. The roof will perform several important functions:

  1. Protection of a metal barbecue from any external influences, which in turn will not lead to rapid rusting.
  2. The ability to use the unit in any weather - sunny and inclement.
  3. Having built a lantern on the roof, it will be convenient for you to fry meat in the dark - nothing will burn!
  4. The structure with a roof has a much more solid appearance than just a free-standing structure.

There are several types of canopy for the barbecue, we list: You can select several types of coverage, constructing barbecues with a metal roof. Photos will be presented below.

  • Metal gazebo with barbecue, made of brick or other material;
  • polycarbonate canopy;
  • Roof welded to the frame (you can also add a countertop, sink, etc.).

We suggest you look at the braziers with a metal roof: a photo of several options below. And if you want to do it yourself, then read the article about self-assembly a canopy made of professional pipe and polycarbonate, this knowledge will help you make a roof for the barbecue.

In this article, we looked at how to make a metal brazier in four ways:

  • using a 50l gas cylinder;
  • from a metal barrel 200l;
  • from heat-resistant steel 5mm;
  • from sheet 3mm steel.

We hope our master classes were useful, and you can easily make a metal barbecue with your own hands!
